Review Yeeros Shop - Marrickville

Alis Abz
I came in here to check it out, the guy serving me was pretty rude and uninviting. I ordered two mixed yeeros and a small chips. As there was no where to sit I decided to take my food home, as he wrapped my yeeros I noticed big chunks like sausage looking meat in my yeeros it wasn’t cut fresh off the doner thing. Anyways .. when I got home 5mins away everything was soggy meat was stale and on top of it all the chips looked like they were from the bottom of the bag, I get it I’m not Greek, but c’Mon I’m still a paying customer. Save your money and go somewhere else ! Wasn’t fresh had no taste on the worst thing was … how does anyone stuff up chips? Note to anyone .. always make sure you see the person cut the meat in front of you. I’m pretty sure my meat was sitting there for hours.

JUST DON'T. Rude service, overpriced, oily recooked chips and dry meat. The five star reviews must be fake as no one is this shop due to the terrible customer service and food. From previous reviews it looks like it was good but it has changed hands since. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND STAY AWAY!!!

My photos aren’t great but the food was absolutely amazing. I left satisfied and happy. If you ever go make sure to get the chips. They are life changing! I also quite liked the drink, very different and nice.

Friendly staff made me feel welcome, nice and clean shop, I hade a Lamb Yeeros the meat was nice but not hot enough it was just warm the bread was to dry like it had been sitting there for a while and the air had got to it making hard even though it was toasted. The hot chips were ok had much better, they were hand cut chips but not cooked long enough for my liking. This is just my opinion you might. You might enjoy it more than I did so give it a try yourself .

I grew up down the road and this was the local take away shop. Used to be one of the best yeros shops in Australia. Whilst Ive lived interstate for the past few decades, Ive always made it a point to come back each time I'm in Sydney. The standards have dropped a lot over the years unfortunately. Whilst the portion sizes are generous, its just at your normal take away shop standard now. Very disappointed.

Overpriced first of all, who pays $20 for a snack pack? Which was basically a bag of soggy chips and meat, I also ordered a $14 yeeros that was not wrapped properly, the bread was soggy and lamb was chewy. Not to mention I had the worst indigestion after eating. I’ve had a much greasier meal and felt fine after.. Will not be going back. What a shame. Waste of money. And rude customer service also.

Some of the most delicious yeeros I have ever had. Staff are always friendly and generous with portions. Been coming here for 12 or so years, always worth it

I read the reviews and yet I still felt like giving this place a chance. I truly wish I didn’t. $40 for two yeeros and medium chips. That wasn’t even including the $2.80 ATM fee because the place doesn’t take card. I think this may have been one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Yeeros were so soggy and the meat was so dry, not even the tzatziki could save it. Chips were the worst chips I’ve ever had in my life, I wish I was joking. They were stale, chewy and tasted like shavings of someone’s boot but coloured yellow. Wouldn’t even give those chips to the birds. Honestly so appalling.

WARNING: this place is transphobic. A staff member aggressively policed my friend using the women’s bathroom. This is not a queer friendly place. I cannot recommend.

Tried the lamb Yeeros and it was extremely tasty. The ingredients from the pita bread to the salad inside were nice and fresh with nicely balanced tzatziki and this other special sauce that they put in there.

This was right up there amongst the best gyros place that I have tasted with the only downer being extra charge for sauces.

Thin pita and no chips means it’s the typical kebab style and the yeeros here compares well to most kebabs, with good ingredients and a fair amount of meat. Unfortunately it costs more than most kebabs and the tzatziki wasn’t worth an extra $1.

The yeeros plate ($24) was massive, can definitely feed two if you're not super hungry. It came with all three meat options (lamb, beef and chicken), pita bread, greek salad and hand cut chips. The chips were so good, i think it gets refried twice for that extra crunchy oily exterior, my favourite meat was the beef because it was the most fatty cut, the lamb was a close second and I didn't really care for the chicken. All in all, the plate is very familiar if you've ever had a kebab so i honestly can't tell you what makes it 'greek' but tasty food nonethless!

The top end of Illawarra Rd used to be a lot less busy than it is now. The old fruit shops are slowly closing, new apartments are getting built. All change. We feel like we've been banging on about these areas changing a lot lately, but it seems to be increasing not flatlining. . One constant along the strip is The Yeeros Shop, opened in 1976 when the Jets were still in the main league and 'Play That Funky Music' played at the Marrickville RSL disco down the road.

We had heard a lot about this place so went for a drive to see what the fuss was about. I ordered the mixed Yeeros plate with only chicken meat and hubbie had beef yeeros.
The plate came with salad, hand cut chips and Tzatziki. So yum. The dip was chunky but it was the chips, oh those chips that made it. Hand cut, crunchy perfection and just perfect to dip in the sauce. Hubbie said his beef yeeros was great too. Yum really enjoyed it here. No fuss good traditional good. Will be back.

So the food here is not the most photogenic. If Zeus St Greek was Karlie Kloss this place would be Steve Buscemi. Now that we got that out of the way I have to say the food wasn't too bad. They give you pretty generous portions (about twice the size of a Zeus St yeeros) here. I got the chicken one and it was pretty tasty - not blown away but still tasty. I would have liked it to be piping hot when I got into but that's just me nit picking. Solid food here though and the place gives off that humble, family-run, old world fast food shop vibe. Not as good as Gyros Fix near concord but better than Zeus.

Great, cheap food! Seriously not much more to ask from a yeeros shop. It's not quite the same as a gyrus in Greece, pf course, but at that price with that big of a dose and that flavour... I loved it!! Plenty of seating available and very friendly staff. Definitely a go to!

Small chips and a lamb yiros, soooo delicious. I think I've found a place better than Yiro Yiro. It was reasonable price and the lamb was juicy. I would definitely come back here for a feed and to catch up with friends.
Leon
Oh well, if you had gone to Greece, you would not find gyros or yeeros which resembled the ones here. The gyros were dry and unpalatable whereas the souvlaki appeared nothing like grilled chicken. Perhaps they could be more generous with their sauce and add more mayonnaise to the gyros. I have to give up halfway. Why on earth was this rated 4.3?

We were in the Marrickville area to meet up with a friend to go and grab yeeros. He was already a keen fan of kebabs so we thought we’d try something different. The crowd waiting to buy at the counter was a good sign so we lined up anxiously. The menu was a very simple one to understand so we made our decision quickly. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. It had that “family-run-business” feel to it.

I have been coming here for over 15 years, they have the best chips in Sydney. I usually alternate between ordering a chicken burger and some lamb to take home, and I hardly have any complaints.

Nothing says late night feed better than a Kebab/ Gyros. The stuff of legend, the go to for many generations of late night goers.

In this place we have one of the first and original operators of Sydney and arguably one of the best. Meat is always super tender with no shortage of sauces or salads to boot

When walking in the restaurant we are always greeted with a smile from the typical worker. When asking what we would like, they would be happy to do anything for us and they have never had an ingredient unavailable, they are very organised and devoted workers. The shop isn’t the biggest but it really does not matter to me.When making the Yeeros the chicken, beef or lamb are always cooked to perfection without a hint of flavour missing.

They always put the perfect amount of items on the Yeeros such as sauce, lettuce, onion, cheese etc. They always have a full stock of drinks for the customers and have never ran out of any drinks ever before which is amazing, because i personally like a soft drink with my Yeeros.

The restaurant is always spotless and clean and whenever a mess appears they straight away clean it up without missing a piece of dirt. The inside of the shop is a nice, small and cozy place to dine at with the most incredible food i have ever tasted from the saltiness to the spiciness, everything is to die for.

The kitchen is especially very clean surprisingly, I expect meat and lettuce on the floor but nothing except shining, glossy tiles. The hot chips are spectacular, they are so crispy on the outside, but nice and soft from the inside and an excellent amount of salt on the hot chips. The Yeeros is the best Yeeros i have ever tasted just phenomenal.

This shop will make history not only they have sensational and outstanding food but a stunning and exceptional service.I always enjoy my time dining there and have never complained about their food ever before, it’s a place where parents should take their children and friends to come and enjoy there time with each other.Everyone i’ve seen in The Yeeros Shop have always had a massive smile on their face (with a little sauce) but it shows that this restaurant’s is so tasty.

I totally recommended this place for all ages with 10/10 Food and 10/10 Service.I’m going to end this review by saying The Yeeros Shop is extraordinary.

Im a big believer in customer service. As soon as i walked in the guy behind the counter didn't want to be there. The yerros itself was bland and tasteless. The shop was dirty and stuck in the 70s. I wont be back. Maybe the pigeon in the shop will return.

Oh what a disappointment! Kebab masquerading as Yeeros. Where's the pork? Why aren't there chips in my Yeeros? Oh, the beef is that compressed-roll stuff at kebab shops. This place used to be so good but now my Yeeros dreams lie shattered on the ground beneath BBQ sauce…I'll have to go to Adelaide or Melbourne

The Yeeros Shop is one our favourite Greek shops and never fails to impress. We always opt for the lamb or falafel yeeros, however any of them will easily satisfy. The pita bread and fillings complement each other perfectly and the servings are massive - perfect for us. The food is plentiful and hearty and service is friendly. Portions are big, the food is affordable and delicious - what more could you want? We can't wait to be back for more!

Marrickville might be changing but I hope The Yeeros Shop never leaves. Regarded as a institution by long-serving locals, The Yeeros Shop is said to be one Sydney's first, well, yeeros shops, opening in 1976. Not much has changed since then. They still hand-cut the potato chips and potato scallops. They still wrap your takeaway in giant packages of butchers paper. You'll still find a huddle of elderly Greek men at the tables up the back, slowly picking at plates of lamb yeeros while they catch up.

This place Staff Poor bad customer service and I never go there again they should learn how to speak to customer .............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to this place after reading the reviews. To be honest I don't know what the fuss is about. I ordered the chicken souvlaki yeero, It's ok but nothing to rave about. The chips however brought back memories of the fish and chip shop back in the days.. greasy oil and huge portions even for a small size.

The absolute best chips in Sydney. They make them old school. Hand cut real potato chips. Not the frozen crap that is sold almost everywhere else these days. And trust me, if it's just a meal for one, you only need a small chips. The small is more than enough and at $3.50 , a bargain. And the service is 5 out of 5 too. Friendly people , friendly environment and now i have typed this review i want to go and buy some chips hahaha ....
Jam
One of the best places to ring up the παρέα and get a FAT feed thats affordable and full of greasy goodness. The chips are the best in town full stop and it feels like your own παππού made it.
Insatiable Munchies
Sam got a smack in the arm for that, but you know what? He’s not wrong. All my stories DO start out with food and I’ve got the waistline to show for it. I wear it like a badge of honour, on my…belly. Simon and I DID go out for lunch one rainy afternoon, making a special trip to Marrickville to visit Blackforest Smokehouse for their cured goods, on the same morning we found out that cured meat was bad for you. Like really really bad for you.

T H E ☆ Y E E R O S ☆ S H O P
Best yeeros/gyros in Sydney! These guys have been around for yonks because they seriously do have amazing yeeros.
Not the most healthiest food to eat but yolo. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney

I can't fault this place. The best place for a gyros fix in Sydney.

Despite the takeaway shop fitting, the quality of the food and the customer service are outstanding. We had some gyros, tabouli and a souvlaki skewer (which we were advised would take 10 mins to cook). BOY was it worth it! The scent alone wafting from the lamb in the gyros and the lamb chunks on the souvlaki- it can't be described in words. You really have to go there to experience it for yourself.

The tabouli was fresh and balanced with just enough lemon + salt.

If you're a regular kebab eater, this is the best place for you to try out a gyros for once. You won't regret it. Bonus points: these guys are open until 12am for most of the week!!

The day my diet fell apart ( a week and a half into it) I find myself here.. feeling guilty and excited as I ordered a Lamb Yeeros, a side of small chips and a Greek salad to share with my wife. She barely touched the yeeros claiming she was full but manage to woof down half the chips and most of the salad.

I sit and slowly savoured the chips not knowing when I'll be revisiting this guilty pleasure. These chips bring back memories of my childhood. It's got that bad oil soaked taste about it with every bite. Also the serving size is quite large for a small.

Paired perfectly with the chips is their yeeros. I prefer lamb with all salads and a mixture of chilli and garlic sauce. Normally this is my go-to combination for yeeros and kebabs. What makes this yeeros stand out is the generous amount of meat they pack in it. Towards the end you'll find that there's more yeeros to bread ratio and you're left needing some utensils to complete the meal cleanly. To make it even more fitting for me, they aren't shy with the sauces either.

The greek salad was a lame salad of choice.. but my wife is still stuck in the phase of needing greens with every meal.

We didn't end up getting any drinks... not because we didn't want to but what I noticed was that the place is cash only and I had just $20 in my wallet. What place nowadays doesn't take cards? I know the answer... it's a lot... but cash only policies should be banned as society progresses forward towards cashless transactions. I hate carrying cash and worse of all I hate looking for an ATM to cater for these places.

Other than that I have no gripes with this place. In fact I'd say this place is one of my favourite yeeros places to fall back on.... and I'm always craving it especially when I'm in the area... what you don't get is a nice sitting area with decore and an atmosphere to match like Victoria Yeeros down the road or Zeus in Drummoyne... but with quick service, great food and friendly staff... I know you will not be disappointed.

If you're not convinced by my entry to give this place a try... then let the constant customer base be a telling sign that this place is the real deal...

BEST kebabs in Sydney. Seriously fast friendly service, authentic flavour to the chips. Generous with their meat, salad, sauces. Always happy to accomodate my annoying little requests and open LONG hours. It is a kebab take away store, you can eat in of course and I love that you can eat then pasy after you eat. YAY trusting we wont run! Its very casual but really tastey!! Try it.

One can be spoilt for choice when it comes to inexpensive lunch options in Marrickville, especially along the legendary Illawarra Rd, where you can find a great bowl of pho , perhaps the best in Sydney. However, what if you're pressed for time and need to have lunch on the go? A bowl of noodle soup is hardly something that can easily be eaten as you travel to your next destination. Nor is it something that generally transports well. A roll or roll-like device on the other hand is the perfect vehicle for th

Best chips in Sydney. Forget about the great yeeros, go here for the best hot chips in Sydney

Ncik not happy? you must own a competitive yeros shop!. I cant believe anyone could give a negative review to this yeros shop unless they had a vested interest elsewhere. Never had stale bread or chewy meat in over 100 times buying food there. only joy full contented bliss! you must own a shop down the road my friend cause this is pure Greek delicacy in marrickville! Cant fault tender juicy flavorsome meat, full flavor fresh tsatiki and home made chips!Dont try to compete with the best Nick not happy , your not happy cause you failed against a true blue performer!

-----26 Aug, 2014-----

The most amazing yeros in sydney. I discovered this place 3 years ago with an x. have taken many friends since. You cannot eat a whole chicken yeros in one go , it is so packed full of juicy meat. And the chips? Amazing! You cant get those home made chips anywhere now. I cant believe they sell such high quality and large serve size food for such a cheap price. My daughters turn up their noses at any other yeros or kebab place now. Always fresh, always generous and remember their customers. The yummiest tzatisiki too. Look at the wall to see the master chef guys eating at this place too. No competition for me

Chippies!!. Every Friday after school, grandad would take me to the takeaway shop just across from my primary school. I'd pay the lady $2 and after what felt like the longest 4mins ever, she'd hand give me a parcel of hot hot chips wrapped in layers and layers of butchers paper. They weren't normal chips, these are short chunky odd shaped bits with a really unique taste. I actually haven't had these again since we moved away and the takeaway shop closed as well.. But last night we went to the Yeeros Shop - for Yeeros (I've been craving since I had one in Mykonos), but I couldn't even tell you what the yeeros tasted like. I was in awe of this humunger junger, plate piled high with deep fried potato pieces! I think we got a large shared between 8 adults and only almost finished it.. And it was delicious. I was too busy scoffing down the chips and reminiscing those kiddie days, I didn't even take notice of my yeeros.
Yes I loved it and yes I will definitely be back!
Ronin47
Incredible chips. Got a mixed yeeros - beef and chicken - huge. But even better was the small chips which I had - they dumped it on a plate and it was the size of the entire plate for a small. These are no Birds Eye crinkle cut rubbish - all irregular shapes ... so old school it's not funny. Tasted great without salt as requested. Don't know why it's taken me so long to come to this institution.
Poppy1963
Wow. What planet have I been living on,I didn't know kebabs ,sorry yeeroses could taste so good, and the speedy service was ridiculous especially since the place was chokers .
Master Diner
I have been coming to the Yeeros shop for nearly 15 years. I live in South Australia now but always take time to come back. They are easily the best Yeeros's in Australia. The service is fast and extremely friendly. I don't get why anyone would dislike this place. There's nothing to dislike.

Wish came to you.. Went to your opposition on week-end. In Marrickville - Victoria Rd
May I say, wish I came to you instead. The food there was dreadful and service. Aswell as prices were astronomical. Shame on them .
Wish Id read your reviews first.

Fresh and Delicious. Tasty ingredients, Fresh, delicious and the yummiest lamb yeeros and chips I have eaten. Endorsed by the Master chef judges (photo is on the wall), this is a little gem. No fuss, great service and value for money.

Best yerros in Sydney. Ella fillie means friends in English , my experience at this traditional local greek eatery was unbelievable my lamb yerros was full of meat yes it was oily but anyone that knows about yerros's will no , the hot chips were traditional it brought me back to my childhood when after school we would go to the local takeaway I buy us chips warped in grease proof paper , everything about this place is traditional its like you have gone back in time and the people are friendly to I recommend you to pay a visit to this piece of history and say "ena yerro "
William
World class. Best yeeros i have ever eaten and i should know having traveled alot and the service was warm and freindly .my kind of place.
Maggie Thanh
Not tasty- overrated. Ordered lamb yeeros, the meat cubes were way to big and chewy and oil was dripping off the thing, i think they even re-use the oil to cook the chips, it didn't smell right
Theo
Best yeeros in town. Get the lamb with tsaziki. Always so much meat you only need one meal a day. best chips also.. They are cooked in magic.. so good.
Meat
These guys make the best yeeros in Sydney, great service and a family business. What more could you want out of restaurant, one of the few places I've seen where at 11 am on a Sunday they'd be packed and at 12:30 on a Friday they'd be packed. Definitely worth a visit.
Jcraw66
Went here for lunch had the beef and chicken yeeros that were very good but the chips were the stand out, the old style Greek take away chips that were fantastic ! Will go again

I ordered a souvlaki and the tzatziki was an extra charge, not impressed.

Simple, but great. The best yeeros going in the inner west. Lamb or beef is usually my choice, so much meat the pita can barely hold it all in. Also, THE BEST hot chips in Sydney.
Xj
The best hot chips!
