Review Gia Dinh Vietnamese Restaurant - Marrickville

The food was very tasty but the tables were a bit too small for the 6 of us. We ordered 5-6 dishes for sharing and they all came almost at the same time! And we didn’t have enough space for them all. Eventually they held off on bringing out the fish hot pot until we finished eating most of the dishes on our tables. The sour soup fish hot pot is a must try but I wish they had placed the fish on top of the hot pot instead of placing them inside the soup.

Unassuming place but what a hidden gem it turned out to be! The best banh xeo (pork and prawn pancake) I have ever had! It was perfectly crispy and seasoned, every bite had a nice crunch. We also ordered a soup with duck which was delicious as well. Highly recommended place!

Been here quite often and this is one of the best restaurants I’ve tried in Sydney. Traditional Vietnamese Food I’ve tried today are Caramelized Fish Claypot, Sweet and Sour Soup. Some signature dishes are Betel Leave Beef Role, Crispy Pancake, Stew Beef Noodle, Special Broken Rice Pork Chop. A must-try restaurant in Inner West Sydney.

My first visit today and I rate it! It was recommended by a friend for their banh xeo and it didn’t disappoint. Also really liked the steamed rice paper roll (pic below). The service is lovely and place clean. Could have used a bigger sized bowl🥣 though 🙂

First pho restaurant I tried at Sydney this year, fantastic food. The fresh made rice noodle was super smooth, all the ingredients are in best quality too.

Long term customer for 3-4 years. Their pho, banh xeo and Vietnamese hotpot are to die for. Oh and the apple pork belly salad, it's a must order

For awhile now I’ve been a huge idiot. I thought I had to make the odyssey out to Cabramatta to get awesome Vietnamese food. But holy hell how have I been missing out for so long?! I knew Marrickville pork roll was good, but for the most part Marrickville was just cafe and brewery town for me. Not any more… This place was excellent! I was looking for viet pancakes, and the pancake here was wonderfully crispy. The mince beef in betel leaves plus the sauce had a really delicious flavour. Will definitely come back here again.

Had a great experience at Gia Dinh, their Banh Xeo (egg crepe with pork and shrimp) and Sugarcane Prawn Banh Hoi (vermicelli sheets with rice paper wrap) was delicious! A great taste of southern style Vietnamese food, everything was fresh. I highly recommend trying these two items if you're looking for something different from pho or crispy chicken - this is my new go-to place for them!

Easily the best Com Tam outside of Cabramatta. Bahn Xeo is also incredible - crispy & fresh everytime. Incredible vietnames.

Most of the Vietnamese restaurants at that end of Illawarra St had changed hands, so I was unfamiliar with what’s available and we just entered Gia Dinh on a whim. No frills, lots of Vietnamese patrons, low prices - it looked promising and we weren’t disappointed. The food was authentic and absolutely delicious. We ordered vegan rice paper rolls (actually very tasty), banh cuon (rice rolls with mince and wood ear mushroom), banh xeo thit (pancake with meat), and chao tom (sugarcane prawn). What a feast and all for just $58! Will definitely go back.

Gia Dinh is like being back in Vietnam! I know, I know Marrickville is full of good Vietnamese restaurants and but this one is great! From deep fried quails, to banh xeo and don’t even get me started on how insanely amazing pho is! This is the place to get your Vietnamese food fix

My mate and I stumbled across this place an decided to spontaneously try it (which is not like me at all. It's very low key and easy to miss. I had the Bún thịt nướng (BBQ Pork Vermicelli Salad) $14 and my mate had Bánh cuốn (Steamed rice rolls filled with pork mince, served with pork loaf and salad) $13. Served with pandan tea which complimented the meal nicely! The service was good. Great ambulance. Pretty good value.

We found Gia Dinh restaurant along Illawarra Rd in Marrickville by accident, but oh what a find! Traditional Vietnamese food plus great customer service. Very homely restaurant. We ordered the ff Prawns in crispy pastry (Tom Sot Cam) served with orange dipping, Crispy Bahn Xeo with savoury fillings, Traditional minced beef with herbs and spices rolled in wild betel leaves and traditional braised pork with eggs, my gawd they were sooo good lah!

Came here on a Sunday night. Was served off tasting and smelling Banh Cuon which put us off the rest of our meals. pho noodles were soft. Vermicelli salad was fine. I won’t be coming back.

I am a very picky eater, my partner and I usually chose a restaurant for the dishes that we love. So far we haven't been disappointed. Not only is the food flavoured with a big punch, they also have a large variety on the menu for you to chose from. Food comes out well dressed, the staff are very friendly, hence the name "gia dinh - family". Be spontaneous and chose a few in the menu and let your tongue go on a sensational ride of taste.

This is my new favourite Vietnamese place in marrickville. And that's a big call given how many pho places are here! Friendly staff, great food, peaceful and clean ambience. So far, I've had the pho, bun bo hue and vermicelli beef salad here, and all were very satisfying. One of the few quieter pho places that are not higety-pidgety in terms of decor and atmosphere
