Review Bun Bo Hue Huong Giang - Marrickville

First time there and very impressive. I am a huge fan of Pho Vietnamese food. Use to good another place near by but wanted to try some places different. I checked on Google reviews and this place looking good. So give a try and it is better than I thought. Pho and spring rolls are so delicious. Friendly staff. I would give they too 3 of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney.

Good place for Vietnamese food outside the west (Cabra and Canley). The pho broth was decent, but I was a disappointed that my special was more like a regular pho as it lacked generous amounts of meatballs and tripe. The fried chicken with rice was delicious. Customer Service is friendly. It's worth noting that the restaurant is incredibly warm inside, which isn't great when you're eating hot soup noodles.

Flavorful and authentic bun bo hue. The soup has a strong shrimp paste taste and is a little spicy. Comes with beef brisket, pig blood jelly, pork hock and Vietnam sausage. Highly recommend it if you want an authentic bun bo hue!

Really delicious! Definitely the spot for pho/Vietnamese in Marrickville. We got pho, spring rolls, and viet iced coffees and they were all so good 😌. The staff were also really friendly :)) Will be back to try more of the dishes :)) PS the photo doesn’t really do it justice.

My mum makes the best home cooked Vietnamese food so I always compare restaurant dishes to hers. This place is pretty up there and the service is friendly too. Would definitely come back. Thank you! :)

I love this place. The taste is pretty good as in Vietnam. I come here every time I am homesick.

This dish is special dish broken rice with grilled pork with sunny egg (cơm tấm sườn bì chả trứng). They make it very nice like Vietnamese style and the fish sauce especially for the dish as well. It helps my homesick a lot. I also tried Pho in this place and I was amazed at their broth. This restaurant may look old but the taste is very Vietnamese and very good.

Thought I'd try here, and ordered takeaway but they have a menu price and then charge what they want. When questioning the price to the man that served me, thinking it was just an honest mistake, he just said prices have gone up and walked away. Even with the prices increase of what he said, he still overcharged. And it was clear they had already increased their menu prices. Flavour wasn't bad but quite stingy on the meat included. It wasn't overly busy but they also took about 25-30 mins.

Food is good and cheap here. The beef is sliced thick and the broth is aromatic and sweet.
Everything we sampled was delicious. I was hoping for more blood jelly in my bowl though :(

Service can definitely be improved.
There was only 1 man on a saturday night, so it took a long time before he took our order. Food came out quick, but I’d prefer if he would not have his thumb close to the soup when he hands us our noodles...or use gloves, just at the time of a pandemic.
Other than that, I do like the flavours.

have been going here for years, food is always wonderful!
Go here very very often for beef pho, I like clean simple beef pho that's not too salty or oily.

Looking at other people's reviews there's still much more I need to try here!

What lovely food. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Yummy crispy spring rolls. Spiced quails cooked to perfection. Honey Prawns added a sweet taste to the table. The sizzling beef came out piping hot and set our taste buds alive. The pancakes were fresh and crispy accompanied with fresh lettuce and mint leaves. Battered fried up pork pieces were not oily and was a winner with all at the table and let’s not forget the mixed veggie dish.

We had:
* Bun Bo hue - I tried my friend's soup and it was full of flavour and quite spicy, the way it should be
* Pho - I asked for pho tai Bo Vien sach. But I didn't get the meatballs. And the slices of beef were overcooked and stuck together. Otherwise the soup base was delicious and hearty

Got the nicest service here and the pho was amazing. a little bit on the salty side but definitely not the spot with the cravings. the Vietnamese iced coffee was pretty good too

Had the broken rice combination here and the pork chop was nice and so was the pork pattie but it was barely warm
The pork shreds I could tell was straight from the fridge
Prices were reasonable, ambience is what you expect from a Viet place but it feels a little dark here, and service was good especially with a big crowd already in there.

This is our family go to Vietnamese place in Marrickville. I love their crispy chicken and tomato rice. Tastes fresh and the chicken is always tender. Always generous to provide me soup as well. The pho however is lacking depth and flavour but are generous with the meat and portions. Yeah staff are a little short and service is hasty but nice. I've had orders which have been forgotten.

Have you ever ordered a laksa at a Vietnamese restaurant? I for one have not. However, on this occasion, my partner had a craving for laksa and I wanted pho. So how to compromise? By exploring through Marrickville's many Vietnamese restaurants and asking if they also served laksa. We eventually found one where they said that they could do laksa. Suspiciously however, when were handed the menus, there was no Laksa there.... luckily it wasn't really my concern as I wanted pho =D The restaurant owner then came over and asked us what laksa we wanted and we said combination. He went away smiling like it was nothing out of the ordinary to offer dishes not in their menus. Spring rolls - $10 - First up the usual favourite spring rolls. Six thin crispy rolls of pastry with a pork and vegie filling. Also comes with lettuce leaves and sauce to cut through some of the greasiness. Combination laksa ~ $12 - Next up was the laksa. Visually, it looked like a laksa (although it

There’s something very homey about Pho and it was the perfect meal to end my trip in Sydney.

It's Thursday night and we feel like a street feed. Our stomachs suggest Chinatown but our brains aren't up to the hullabaloo of the city. Just a little baby hangover. Instead we stroll to Marrickville for some Vietnamese. We choose Huong Giang partly bec

These little fella’s were perfection. About twelve king prawns dusted in flour and spices before hitting the fryer. Incredibly juicy and loaded with savoury flavour.

A couple of Mondays ago, K emailed me and suggested going for a 'quick pho' in Marrickville. Of course I said yes. Fast forward a few hours and we're seated in one of the newer Vietnamese restaurants on Marrickville Rd - Huong Giang. K was a little bit ap

Fresh and clean. This place is always clean, food is fresh. Proper Viet food, not catering to western tastes.

Staff have limited English.

Highly recommend

Best Viet in the 'Ville. We have tried all the others and we keep coming back to the BEST. Huong Giang ... the Viet pancakes are heavenly, Pork Chop with broken rice is SPOT on. the service is fast, efficient and friendly.

Best Vietnamese food in Marrickville. I grew up in banks town and regularly eat at cabra and Conley heights.
Huong giang is the only place I will eat in Marrickville after being gutted by all the other restaurants around here.
Wished I found this place earlier.

All the viets eat here, that's a good sign to me.

I work in the area and I would come here for lunch and would get take away meals. It would take 10 mins max and I would get my meal and be satisfied. I decided to take my wife here for dinner as we were in the area. We waited 40 mins and still no food. We asked the staff about our meal and it looked like they forgot to put our order through. No apologises and when our food arrived it tasted like crap. Will not come back. Bad service and bad quality food. Very disappointed

Very delicious. My boyfriend have been going there for 3 years regularly. What we find in marrikville is that each shop does a few dishes really well. Huong giang does a decent pho, seafood noodle soups, rice vermecilli salads and the roll your own rice rolls are AMAZING. Try the sugar cane prawn. It comes with vermecilli cakes fried shallots and penuts with lettuce, mint, Vietnam basil, sprouts and vinegared carrots and daikon . A really nice starter for up to 4 people.
We have only seen one of the owners grumpy once in 3 years- a rarity in these topsy turvy times! They are the cutest friendliest people ever....and if you practice any basic Viet. Phrases you know the owner gets so excited she jumps and giggles and slaps you arm.
Yes the lighting is bad as most authentic Vietnamese places are but the cheap prices, warm service and good food makes this place a local fave.

Our local Vietnamese. We come for the food. It's delicious and cheap. The service, admittedly, isn't the best, but they always get your order right. It's not the place for a romantic or fine dining experience, but the Vietnamese is authentic and fragrant.

Disappointing!. My partner and I are regular customers of this restaurant. We were very surprised to see how small proportion their drinks are. It was the first time we ordered their drinks. Both drinks are 3/4 FULL. We were disappointed and think how tight ass their owner is.... We took a photo to prove it.
Both drinks look like someone had a few sips before bringing them to our table!! Come on... You think your customers won't notice?! Also, their food quality isn't as great as those in Bankstown and Cabramatta.

One of the best!. We go to Huong Giang on a weekly basis (if not more) and have been doing so for the last 18 months.
The staff are always happy to help, the food is amazing and fresh and the prices are great!

This place is always open and the dishes authentic - I cannot recommended it enough!!

For the people who have had a bad experience here, i'm very surprised as the 50+ times we have been to this venue we have never once had anything negative happen.

Must recommend the rice paper rolls (and if you ask nicely, they will make a serving of 4 if you are sharing as a couple and give you a pro rata price..much better than fighting your husband for the last one!) My other favourite is the chicken salad - got me through my dieting days!

AVOID IF YOU ARE HANDICAPPED. We went on thursday night, 5 april. There were plenty of spare seats. We had a dining book voucher which stated that it was good for the entire 2012 year at any time and on any day. A female (possibly someone in charge) said that they do not take the vouchers. She carried on in a very rude manner .We told her that we had travelled a long way and had to park a fair distant from the restaurant. She was also told that I was handicapped (which was very obvious) and had great difficulty in walking, and we would have not come if the voucher (bought only 2 weeks before) was unable to be accepted. She so rudely stated that it was not her fault if I was handicapped and the voucher would not be accepted. This was despite her responsibility to the company that she (or the manager) had agreed to allow their restaurant to be placed in the book. The voucher also stated that Huong Giang and the friendly staff looked forward to welcoming you soon.I worked in hospitality for 32 years before retiring and had never seen such disgraceful service in a restaurant..It was even worse ,being handicapped. The matter will be referred to the anti-discrimination board. That woman was truly the lowest form of a human being I have ever encountered..This restaurant is to be avoided as they hate handicapped people.

Great food, extensive menu. A clean, spacious casual place. Large menu - about 10 pages. All the usual favourites and some surprises as well. The service is friendly but not hurried, the food is wonderful, and the serves are large. We tried the traditional beef noodle soup, and the combination vermicelli noodle salad, both delicious. Highly recommended for a casual meal.

Bonza Pho. This Pho ticks all the boxes. The serving size is massive, the broth clear and pure. Adding to taste is essential. Tender beef and fat crunchy sprouts.

Best pho in Sydney. We are avid Pho consumers, and eat/drink it at least once per week. I think we have tried all of best (Pasteur in Gerage st and in Bankstown used to be top of our list).

But we discovered Huong Giang just after it opened, and it is definitely the best Pho in Sydney!

jjj

Excellent Vietnamese. This was a perfect choice for a wet Sunday lunch. The noodle soup is heart-warming and delicious and the caramel pork claypot is rich and tasty. Service is warm and very efficient. Definitely returning here.
