Review La Bufala - Mascot

Phil Li
We quite enjoyed our experience here as we found the food to be nice and the service to be friendly. The food comes out quick and the waitress we had memorized our order without writing it down but she did forget one of our orders. Besides the pasta being a little too salty, everything else was fine. Would come back again to order other pizzas and pastas.

~Food~ I am hesitant to write anything critical about the food due to the responses of the owner on the other reviews. However, I will say that I share view of some of the other reviewers here that some of the pizzas were soggy. This seemed to apply more so to the tomato based pizzas than the white based ones. In saying that, you could tell the ingredients were high quality. The gnocchi was reasonably good. The lamb ragu was very well executed and flavourful. This really elevated the dish. On balance, I would rate the food 4/5. ~Atmosphere~ This is not the place you’d go for a quiet, romantic dinner. It is loud and energetic. Our experience was unpleasant due to a flock of ~15 obnoxious individuals who insisted on standing up in the middle of the restaurant drinking. This meant my family were frequently knocked or touched on the back while eating. I saw another girl knocked by someone’s backpack while she was trying to eat. The wall people standing in the middle of the restaurant made it difficult/impossible for the wait staff to effectively wait on our table. We ended up saying something, and the waitstaff after immediately (to their credit). Presumably they told them to sit down because they did …for a moment. They were back up just minutes later. My brother (who’s 21st we were there celebrating) and his girlfriend ended up leaving early as a consequence. They boxed up his birthday dinner and the two of them went home. As such, I’d rate this aspect of the experience at 1/5. ~ Service ~ We changed our booking to make it later in the evening and the staff were incredibly accomodating. When waitstaff could actually reach us they were polite, helpful and professional. There was some difficulty getting service at times. For instance, when we first arrived we thought we had to order at the bar when it was actually table service. Given what’s happening in the world at the moment (covid, staff shortages) and the issues I touched on above, I understand why this may be the case. On balance, I’d rate this aspect of the experience a strong 4/5.

My wife and I dined here for lunch and we were really impressed with the overall service and menu. The quality of the seafood was exceptional There are no words to describe the gnocchi, you can definitely tell it was made fresh. We look forward to dining here again !

Came here for dinner with a group of friends. Overall, ambience was nice and staff were friendly. The pizzas were ok - we ordered a vegan pizza and calzone and this took quite a long time to come out. In terms of taste, the pizza Bianca lacked flavour. The calzone was ok but I've had better vegan ones.

Wanted to visit a woodfire restaurant (rated 4.9) but it was closed, so came here instead (rated 4.2). Ordered gnocchi and pizza. Surprisingly the pizza is better than the other place we didnt get to go. Big portion. Only ordered 2 and it is more than enough for both of us. The restaurant looks pretty busy but fortunately it didnt take long to serve the food.

Good food and atmosphere overall. There were 6 of us and everyone was happy with their meal. Quite an extensive menu too so it's quite impressive that everything turned out well. Would say it's one of those places that you can't go wrong with anything you choose from the menu.

We ordered 2 pastas. The portion is big to make it seem reasonable for the price. It was good but I wasn’t able to finish my penne pasta. It’s a nice and cosy place to try for a first time.

Great pizza joint with a very good pizza base, went there with friends last night and we all had a blast! The desserts were also awesome, and the price is great for what it’s worth! If you come here, I highly recommend the burrata and tartufo pizzas 🍕

Amazing gnocchi, so soft and so tasty! The plates are well served and the atmosphere is nice. Very close to the station.

They did well with the Neapolitan pizza base but need to work on the topping distribution - 2 of the 6 slices had no salami at all. The pizza sauce seemed very sugary and salty, as did the bolognese sauce on the clumpy tagliatelle. It was almost good food but the prices are very high so it was disappointing.

The pizza looked great when it arrived. Unfortunately around them he centre was soggy and only the outside area tasted good. I couldn’t lift the pizza as it all broke apart because of the sogginess. I’m a local and wouldn’t go back @ $25 per pizza. The outside did taste nice, so it’s unfortunate..
Ordered the Sir Truffelot burger (pictured). Had to ask for the truffle pecorino (the star of the dish) to be included. When my burger was returned to me, it had a very measly amount added.
Staff not to happy about being questioned in the missing cheese.
To expensive to be considered good.

Had a lunch with afew work mates here. ordered afew pizzas, a burger and afew beers. Food was good and service was quick. for the price you pay it was ok.

Have been here a few times now and incredibly impressed with the quality of the food and service. Open, modern and friendly atmosphere with choice of eating outside or in. Not only scrumptious pasta and pizza, but perfectly cooked steak and potatoes. My favourite was the garlic prawns, followed closely by the affogato. Waiters are quick and discreet. Loved that you could see chefs cooking your food too. Will travel to Mascot more often for this treat.

Real quick service and huge portion for a reasonable price. Their gnocchi is chewy, and sauce is flavourful. Spaghetti marinara is aromatic and they are pretty generous with their seafood.
Spacious restaurant that offers a variety of options. Apparently their Calzones are pretty well done too.

This authentic Italian pizza shop makes high rise tackiness cool. Great pizza options with favourites like bufala a burrata a plenty. Great for lunch and dinner.

La Bufala is the best italian food at this price I have ever tried. I usually come on weekends and it always has many guests. It seems that they need more waitress but the service is good. My favorate is the pizza white base with prawn, which I mostly order. The pasta is also great!

I came to leave a review not only because La Bufala is my favorate Italian restaurant in Sydney, but also because I am confused why this restaurant gets such a low rating on Zomato! That's weired!! Her rating on google is much higher.

If you look at it's reviews on Zomato, some reviewers who leave 1.0 mark ratings, also leave 1.0 mark ratings to other restaurants. They never leave any positive feedbacks to any restaurant. One of these 1.0 mark reviewers even said he ordered steak. la bufala does not provide steak! So these are probably bad mouthing!
Been here a few times and pretty happy with the food and service.
Sometimes when its busy, you may need to wait a while for the food and there’s only about 2 staff running the floor.
I used to love their bolognese, but thought of trying something different so I got the seafood pasta, pretty nice.
My partner gets the Diavola pizza everytime and its okay
The Arancini used to be better than this, I remember trying it before and it was really good.
Use to love their hot chocolate but lately its been so milky and has no cocoa or chocolate taste.

Service 4/5 🌟
Food 3.5/5 🌟

A great location for travellers staying close to the airport. Wood fired Pizza's are very good cooked in the traditional way. Quick attentive servive was in and out in 40 minutes. Ill be back!

This place serves authentic Italian food. By far the best pizza I have eaten. Every time I visit I order the Diavola. Salami used is proper hot salami.

You guys are rubbish! I signed up to Zomato to give you a review and warn others on what to expect. Waited 20mins before being asked if we would like a drink. 5 waitresses running around everywhere however not coming to our table to serve us and the restaurant was at 20% capacity.

I ordered the steak which was on the board. The waitress asked how I would like this cooked, I said medium rare. The waitress confirmed that when ordering medium rare it would be bloody, which I said was perfect! I also asked how long it would take? As we had just over an hour to have dinner. The waitress tried her hardest however as she didn't speak very good English this request was lost in translation & she couldn't advise on a timeframe. 45mins later I received a very well done steak. I called the waitress over and advised this wasn't what I ordered. She asked would you like another one?! We didn't have another 45mins to wait around. I don't usually like well done steak, but tried to eat it, however couldn't as it was rubbery and dry.

Save your $35 on their steak, I have had better steaks for half the price at local pubs.

Overall the service is terrible, lots of waiting, the food expensive and not worth the cost. Our dinner was $90 for 2 and I left hungry and not satisfied and the waitress wasn't apologetic at all. I would not be returning ever again!!

Save your money, time and go elsewhere for an enjoyable dinner.

We arrived early so did not expect any atmosphere, however it was akin to being in a nightclub, with music unnecessarily loud. First impressions were the decor was nice, the restaurant looked clean and the menu had decent variety. Ordered a garlic pizza which was OK. Main meals ordered were two pizzas and the special of the day grilled salmon. I had the salmon, which was tasteless and almost dry. It was served with some form of potatoes (not chips, nor roasted - the two specials boards had differing information but the waiter assured it was chips), and a salad drenched in balsamic vinegar. I would not recommend this meal. The people with me who had the pizzas suggested that the pizzas on offer at Domino's at 25% of the cost would have been a better meal. A glass of coke was ordered and this arrived in a jam jar with a handle. How ridiculous. Prices aren't overly expensive, but with the quality not being great there is little value to be had here. Save the money, go elsewhere.

Nearing 4 rating. Authentico Italian - pizza woodfired with the right level of chewiness in the base and fresh toppings. Tried the Gnomo and the Burrata one - both super tasty. The Nutella pizza also. Looking into the kitchen can see the chefs chopping up trays of delicious mushroom (presume porcini). Fresh airy place with tall ceilings, fresh modern decor with atmosphere and good vibe for families and groups. Also fine for couples. Close to both the Mascot train station and several new serviced apartments in the Meriton complex near Woolworths. Definitely one of the best options in the area. Tasty!

Total Crap.
I actually signed up to Zomato to leave this review. You guys suck! Asked if they heard of Supreme pizza as I was looking for something similar, you know with everything - never heard of such. Okay mm maybe Capricciosa? Looks closest to supreme? - yeah thats the one. That capricciosa turned out to be the thinnest and the most expensive piece of pastry with cheese and ketchup I've ever eaten. Scattered around were few pieces of ham, some mushrooms, canned artichokes and olives rolling about. When trying to pick up a piece everything falls off and you end up with pastry with some cheese and ketchup. Service is arrogant and rushed. Do yourselves a favor guys, visit Made in Italy to see what a pizza should look and taste like. Dominos would have been a better choice. Never back again.

We are trying out a new pizzeria in Mascot’s new shopping precinct, La Bufala. How do they compare with the more established wood-fired pizzerias in Sydney?. Considering that they were pretty new, I was surprised that the menu already looked so old and quite unappealing. However, we soldiered on and ordered what we usually loves best from a pizzeria.

Beautiful, rustic, authentic Italian food served in a relaxed modern open style restaurant. Newly opened in the Meriton complex area across the road from Mascot station.Came here with a group of friends. The menu is one of the best I've seen, simple authentic Italian dishes using the best ingredients. Waitress was charismatic and knew the menu, giving us her personal favourites. For starters we shared Tagliere Platter, which had a selection of cured meats, house made cheeses and fried pizza. The fried pizza was delicious, crispy but fluffy and bread like, went perfectly with the meats. The burrata cheese was my favourite which is made in house and has a beautiful creamy taste.

For mains I chose the Tartufo pizza (Fior di latte cheese, porcini mushroom, prosciutto & truffle). It was so hard to choose as they have such a great range. The dough was fluffy, well rested and had that woodfired taste. The mushrooms had a sweetness and the prosciutto melted in my mouth. It was amazing, the base could hold structure a tiny bit more though.

I also tried the Tagliatelle Bolognese which was not bad. Handmade pasta was well cooked but it needed a bit more sauce and there wasn't enough depth of flavour or seasoning. Would work better with slightly large pieces of pork and ragu but it was tender.

I love the design and ambience, with the open kitchen you can see your pizza being made and placed into the woodfire oven. The owner is Italian and travelled to Italy recently for further inspiration. I like the modern industrial style and spotlighting. Would love to try more, delicious food made with love!

Food is good but service is terrible. Had to try to order a drink multiple times which never arrived and the drinks that did arrive were not enjoyable. Might give it a second chance in the future hoping that service will improve as they are still relatively new.

These guys didn't get the memo that pizzas need, y'know, cheese on them. Served up a pizza without cheese - with no apology or acknowledgement. If you're going to do that, at least mention it on the menu, guys. Basically I paid for an expensive slice of bread with a bit of sauce on it. Yawn. Service was okay, but the pizza was unforgivable. I won't be back. Don't waste your time here - head over to Tavolino near the station. Or even Dominos.

Great pizza authentically Italian. And according to my colleagues that tried other stuff, the great pizza and pasta is augmented by tasty steaks and sandwiches too.

La Bufala is a real contender in Pizza stakes for new Mascot. The dough remains downpat: savoury, somewhat salty and deliciously chewy. Despite this, overall quality is inconsistent and we've found the fior de latte changes in texture from time to time. Most importantly of all, when I am getting takeaway, it barely takes long - only just enough to grab a quick bottle of wine to take away too.

They offer a $10 lunch special for suitably-sized pizzas which include most of the main menu offerings, alongside 2-3 non-pizza options. The coffee is also surprisingly spectacular. Capricciosa and Diavola recommended from here - and the hot sausage on the Diavola lives up to description with it's bite. I'd like more olive oil or atleast the option on the table.

Caught them on a bad day. Their pizza was soggy and watery.
However the pasta was good but small portions and expensive.
They rush their food with no care at all. Hope they improve their service in the future

Fantastic casual dining. Top notch pizzas and pasta - A1. A bonus was room for the kids to run around and stretch their legs just outside. Only wish I worked closer so I could gab my morning coffee here!

Unreal! This place is going to shake up the pizza scene in Sydney and Australia! Excellent vibe, awesome food and a great location. The Italian staff add to the authenticity and I can comfortably say the best pizza I've eaten.
