Review Wallabies Thai - Mascot

Tried this place during lockdown and was not disappointed! Very reliable Thai and prices were very reasonable. Lunch time specials are also great.

This is by far the spiciest fried rice with Thai Chilies and Basil. Spicy level 0-10, this is rates 9! Inedible! It is not that hard to cook a tasty fried rice that is not one dimensional in flavour- Chili I know what is going to happened tomorrow

Prefect place for lunch. Super quick, efficient and plentiful! Recommend for a quick bite !

The Pad Thai and rice noodle dish we had was amazing!! The flavour was great. The beef could be more tender but overall it was delicious and we would definitely go here again! Be mindful of the chilli though.. it's super spicy!! If you can't handle too much heat we would recommend asking for little or no chilli.

Came across this shop situated right in corner and fragrance of that food was buzzing. Decide to place order there... Friendly staff and good service...Very competitive pricing and we ordered following : Pad kra pow : this is the staple of Thai cuisine, and as simple as it is with using the fewest ingredients, chances of getting it wrong is extremely less but I guess the chefs just tried shortcuts. Chicken is generally minced and basil leaves are used more to give it strong taste and majority of times it is served with egg but in this one instead of using minced chicken, they used chicken thin cut long strips which doesn't enhances the taste of the diah and to be fair basil leaves wasn't that much and egg was missing, which still is fair but how can they just use shortcuts. I have traveled extensively in thailand and know this bit for sure, hence this dish is not recommended unless they get the basic right. Pad Prik With seafood : beautiful dish with calamari and other seafood, cooked well and tasted even better, loved it, spicy level medium had me going but the taste really made me unstoppable...so good, highly recommended. Penang Curry : Beautiful curry with bang on taste, the consistency of the curry was smashing, just balanced taste with coconut milk and other spices, tasted delicious and we we had tht with vegetables and tofu and boy I never thought it can be so good, well done for that and presentation for the curry is perfect. All in all, the place has good thai vibe with friendly service and for office staff it's good to satisfy the taste buds but would appreciate more if they can get the basics right.

Hi, I ordered Thai Fried Rice, in the afternoon at the counter and specifically asked the lady at the counter to provide me with a small container for Chilli, Soy and lemeon. I even reminded her to put it in the bag while she was packing the item. Upon getting back, I realise that there was non of it. Your food is awesome but please you can ask for a dollar if you want to charge, but please do put the items that we request becuase it bring flavours for us. Hope to get a better service next time. Thanks

This one the first restaurant to open in Mascot and used to be so good but as it’s changed hands it’s gradually deteriorated. I went yesterday and the kady taking the orders was so rude and loud. I ordered Chicken Larb which was not minced but pieces of chicken . There are better options in Mascot now

Tried many times for takeaway. Mostly i ordered nasi goreng fried rice w chicken. At the first, the taste was really good, similar taste back to indonesia. But recently, the last 4 nasi goreng fried rice that i ordered, wasnt that good as i tried for the first time. Its tasteless, need more sweetsoy sauce and more salt and needs consistency taste of every single dish.

Interesting place that has thai fried rice. I have to admit the holy basil definitely made it very thai. I wish there is a bit more chicken mince though. The serving is pretty large but the dishes are not cheap either. The pad mee mow was too salty according to @Xihuahua 🐶 . I think the food is quite good overall.

Isn’t Thai one of the easiest cuisine? How could you guys cook the dish like dish. This one won’t survive if they located in Thai town.
come early as it gets really packed at lunchtime. good that their serving size is not "asian". almost all dishes come with a veg option. would love to have thicker noodles and not angel hair in their seafood laksa. would visit again.

Great value for money, service is very quick and the dishes are tasty and generous in size. All of the fried noodle dishes are very good, in particular the peanut satay noodles and pad Thai.

Based on the menu, Pad Kee Mow is the most popular noodle dish in this resto. I’d have to agree as it was very tasty! Initial thought the portion was big but once I started tasting this yummy dish, I couldn’t stop til I completely finished it. Hahaha. Will come back to try the other favorites.

I’ve been a regular customer and loved the food here until what happened today (26/04). I found a cockroach in my Pad Kee Maw! I ate it for my super late lunch and dinner. I didn’t notice anything suspicious when I ate it during lunch time but after then I got stomachache. Not long until dinner when I was about to finish the whole thing, I just realized there is a dead cockroach at the very bottom of the container. What an absolute nightmare for someone who actually loves this restaurant and Thai food. Very disappointed!
Eating_Monster
Ordered Thai spicy fried rice, normal fried rice and prawn spring roll. Fried rice was very good and generous portion. Prawn spring roll has the whole prawn in it and taste good.

Great food usually but recent bad experience as they forgot my order completely and took over 30 minutes to serve my boyfriend's meal! Not very apologetic, disappointing service this time I am afraid !
Rei Bies
Wallaby Thai is a regular Thai restaurant with all the usual items. The food is good and service prompt. Although the kitchen is somewhat too loud at times
Greg Gavalas
Both friends and my meal were outstanding! You can sit inside or outside, ordering is quick and food quality is really outstanding! My Laksa was very tasty and gratifying

One of the best Thai restaurant in Mascot area. I have tried their nasi goreng, pad kee mao, pad see euw, singapore noodle and even the lasksa here is good. One thing I like about them is the short waiting time even when the restaurant is full of people. They are that fast!
Foodilicious
I love their Nasi Goreng Fried Rice and their Pad Kee Maw noodle. Good serving size and they accomodate any customization that you are requesting (like extra chicken or extra vegetables or even extra fried egg on top). Service is good although the wait can take a while when its busy. Place is a little squeezy at times and crowded. But overall, good food.

Tried this place when visiting Syd before new years. down a little walkway on the way to mascot station. One of the best Pad Thais that I've had inna long long time. Bit more on the 'saucy' side but I'm a good way. Stay chicken skewers were amazing! Stronger on the peanut butter side which I love. Servings were big! Would visit again if staying in Mascot

Great takeaway Thai. Food is tasty and there are a variety of dishes to choose from. I usually get the noodles there and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 is because the food is occasionally inconsistent. Most of the time it's perfect while other times there is not enough flavor.
Leon Cook
Always consistent, I judge a Thai restaurant on the chicken chilli basil stir fry, there have a decent mix of vegetables and not to much oil, I always like a lot of chilli 🌶 that's just how I roll hot and heavy, the servings are very nice. I can usually demolish it fast, but sometimes I just like to take it slow watch everyone else struggle with there epics serves as I eat through it like the cookie monster. Wallabies Thai don't change anything guys everything is on point.
Jim
Can make a mean pad thai, much better than the other thai place around the corner. Price and quality are pretty good. Will have to investigate their menu/service further

This is my local in mascot. It's located behind Cielo cafe which is also a Thai takeaway joint. The flavours of the dishes here are ok... However, they do put a generous portion of meat in meat dishes.
TrufflePig
Wallabies is your average thai, consistent with their level of quality. The prices are however really reasonable, and make for a decent value lunch when working in the area as their portion sizes are huge. Pad Kee Mao could be spicier! I'd recommend phoning your order ahead during weekdays, as the place can get rather busy.

This place is always seems full of people, but I didn't really get the hype. Maybe it's because it is the first Thai restaurant that opened in the area. Their food is decent but not very delicious, at times it tastes a little bland for me.

Their service is quite slow, I don't know if this is related to the fact that so many people are queuing for the food, but once I ordered a take away and had to wait around 30minutes just to get one dish.

Prices is decent, for dinner it gets a little expensive for the kind of food it is, and I feel like there are better offerings in the area that is cheaper and more delicious.
Michael Gara
Never had a bad meal here! Mainly get the Seafood Pad Thai. Portions are huge, and at $10.50 for the seafood or 8.50 for chicken/beef quality meals at lunch it's amazing value!

I’ve dined here and taken away numerous times. The Thai food appears to be quite average on the whole. It does get quite busy even during the evenings and at lunchtime but that could be due to the location.

I’m not too sure about the dining set-up indoors although they also have a few tables outside. The outlet has an open kitchen and the smells and sounds can be overpowering and I also find the tables arranged to maximise the number of patrons who can fit inside so it doesn’t have a spacious feeling.

The service has been very variable and on the whole veers towards the less friendly. I’m not sure if I’m imagining things but the patrons also sometimes don’t appear all that friendly either. Could it be a trait that rubs off? The home delivery service has been better. Some dishes actually seem to take a while to get ready, I’ve experienced waits of around 15 minutes for the omelette on jasmine rice when there weren’t that many customers. It could be that the dish just takes a while to prepare.

Overall I would say it’s more like a quick-eat or takeaway outlet.

Really good value Thai with speedy service. Casual outdoor tables for a summer nite and easy dining.

A hidden gem for Thai food. This take away produces some good take away Thai. The location isn't good for in dining and I would recommend taking away and eating at your chosen location. The Pad Kee Mow is their most popular dish.

This was my favorite lunch spot in Sydney.I have been there more than 30 times at least. Here I had my first tryst with Thai food and I loved it from Day 1.
Each and every item were good. But my personal favorite were -
a) Rice with Jungle Curry and b) Wallabies Special Fried Rice.
Long live Wallabies Thai, you will always be in heart of Indians working within Qantas HC, Mascot.

Pad see ew. 4 points id like to make. The beef is like leather, msg sauce, overpriced and snobby thai lady who gives the worst table service.
Kevin Kwok
Disgusting, msg loaded, overpoweringly salty Thai food. The worst Thai in Sydney, actually probably the worst Thai I've ever eaten with the worst service in the world. I'm asian and love Thai food. I have eaten at most major thai places in Sydney, learnt to cook it in Thailand and lived in Thailand, so I know what good Thai tastes like. This is not it, there is no balance in flavour, just salt and the bitter taste of bad service. What a horrible dining experience. Went there after tennis at 930pm and asked if it was open. The asian lady with heavy bad makeup was extremely unwelcoming and said yes but I got the feeling she hated life and didn't want more work to do.

We had to seat ourselves, get our own menus, get our own water and order at the counter. This is not a restaurant, it is a takeaway shop with seats. Then we find out there is no eftpos and again the lady appears incensed that I expect a restaurant to have eftpos in 2015. You are given a menu then charged more than what it states before being told that it is the takeaway menu price and eat in is more. Rude and deceiving.

We order the stir fried pumpkin beef and the green chicken curry. We were brought a chicken pumpkin and just told they had run out of beef without asking what we wanted instead. Rude! What if I'm allergic to chicken or didn't feel like it? Overpoweringly salty, msg and fish sauce loaded. All I could taste was salt and my lips were drying out as I ate. The green curry was a bit better but again overly salty.

Have just moved to the area but never coming here again. Horrible, rude staff and extremely extremely salty food. The waitress has the most negative, money hungry, resting bitch face I have ever seen in my life. If you want good Thai food try Home Thai, Chat Thai, Green Peppercorn, Holy Basil & Yok Yor. If anyone thinks this food is nice please try these places before thinking this excuse of a place is good. How do I give a 0 rating??

DELICIOUS :). I don't know what people on here are talking about. Seriously , I get food from here frequently as I work in the area and it's delicious!!! The serving sizes are also very generous. it's one of those places that's good to have in the area but not a place you would go out of your way to eat if you didn't work or live near it. it's one of the better thai takeaway shops. But I recommend it , definitely no complaints from me. as for non friendly staff...if you're hungry who really cares as long as the food tastes good
Olivier_georgelin
Seriously, it's 2014. Get a eftpos machine! I won't comment on the service, my urbanspoon peers have done the job.

Had casual lunch here and it was really very good. (Green curry - seafood). Returned for evening meal next day and had even better meal (duck). Partner had same Green Curry, and was just as great. Full marks for service, taste & consistancy.

Why is this place so busy?. Possibly the worst thai food in sydney. I dont mean to be rude but the staff seemed like they just wanted to make a quick buck, the green curry taste more like salty fish, and i felt like they just wanted us to eat and get out. most uncomfortable experience ever. the dishes just had a lot of msg in them and so making it taste salty and 'full flavoured' but i just left with a bad after taste and a tummy ache...dirty and never going here again..worse than mall food.
Steevo_22
Terrible service!. Terrible service. The delivery driver was rude and gave me a lot of attitude.
The St Kilda Breakfasting Team
Bleh. The Pad Thai was so bland it was not recognisable as Thai food.
Eddie
Horrible service, no eftpos, rushed atmosphere. Shopping centre food comparison. Would never go again.
Andre
Absolutely garbage service and barely passable food. They even try to charge you for extra chilli. Give this place a miss unless you really have to. Doy Tao and big boy Thai are much better.
Chloe
Worst Service WTH??. I just called to make an order for our entire office as we are working late, and the woman was SO completely rude. I have never been spoken to in such a disgusting manner by restaurant staff. Very disappointing as I hear the food is good. I think the woman should go back to Thailand if she hates Australia so much! :(
Jill1blue
Spicy. Good serve but so spicy for a Thai beef salad looks like the takeaway has potential
Simon
Food ok, service straight from badde manors. Like the food. However, I think immigration should check if these women are indentured slaves as none of them appear happy about anything, least of all the customer....
Kat
I stay in this area for work sometimes and have never ventured out of the hotel. I looked on urbanspoon to see if there was anything around and found this place. The food is good, cheap and very quick. I'll be going back next time I'm here.
Jeremy Koch
Food has gotten better, but staff are not the most pleasant....
Hunger Games
0 value for $ & experience. Staff - crap
Service - crap
Food - crap
Portions - crap
Prices - holy crap!

Use to be average but now it's crap. This place survived the starting-up times with the help of generating some business from the local residents, but now that it attracts some office people during lunch to whom this place is convenient as not much of a choice here.

The owners / staff have really lost the plot and are busy ripping people off. They have put no skilled staff, the food is crap, the portions crappier and yet they dare to put up the prices. To make it worse they dont have Eftpos. I have tried them on average once every three months since they started and they even fail to deliver on consistant crap.

This is the last time I waste a thought on this crapolla! as they are even crap at being crap!
Joely Robertson
Red duck curry. Or peanut sauce duck. I love duck. Especially the duck here.
Droods
I've found it a bit hit in miss, you can always judge a good thai place by its mussaman - and at times its like they've watered it down.

good for a quick, convenient, and relatively cheap thai meal!
