Review Cafe 2020 - Mascot

Had brunch here this morning and really looking forward to coming back and trying a proper meal. Had some empandas and a couple of things from the brekkie menu and was not disappointed. Apple pie was probably my favourite. Quaint little place and staff are super friendly, well priced for portions too.

Been wanting to come here for awhile and may have over ordered because I was hungry! Go for the empanadas, they are big and so so good. Also enjoyed the chorizo in soft milk buns (they ran out of crusty rolls) but I think they were pretty good. We sat outside because we brought the dog but inside was packed and had Chilean music on in the background - good vibes all round!

Absolutely loved everything about this place. The empanada were the best Chilean empanada I’ve had in Sydney! Especially the prawns one! It was sooo good that I had to get another one before leaving. The coffee was great too and plenty of seating! Will definitely be back (a lot).

It's true as all the reviews said, food is so nice, price is affordable. One of the gem 💎 in sydney for chilean.

Amazing as always, I’ve followed from Ramsgate to here. Very authentic, my favourites are the cheese empanadas I can’t order less than 1 to eat and 2 to take away. The alfajores are also the best I’ve had hear or in Chile. You have to try it for a taste of typical Chilean street food style. READ some of the reviews and I’ll proudly say I’m a real Chileno, and I enjoy it here because it’s as good as mums and I am happy to pay as mum is getting on with her age.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. This will be one of those places that I will have to visit every time I go to Sydney from now on. I grew up in Sweden so the only Chilean food I had was home style cooking with family and friends. Eating here made me feel like I was at home. All genuine and authentic Chilean style food and all the store bought items aswell! I cannot wait to go back!

We were traveling through from Canberra and have been eager to try out Pochito. We were NOT disappointed! True Chilean cuisine, friendly and welcoming service, value for money... What more could you ask for? We even took 2 dozen Alfajores for the road 😜

Amazing street food. We were transported to Chile in a time where travel isn’t currently an option. It sang to our hearts. We had the lomito (pork) and churrasco (steak) sandwiches, which were juicy and bursting with flavour. We also had the garlic chilli prawn & cheese empanada which was oozing with cheese and melt-in-your mouth. Dessert of Mil Hojas - layered puff pastry cake with gooey caramel was delicious and light, and we finished off with the spopaipilla pasada (pumpkin fritter with citrus and cinnamon syrup). What an enjoyable experience! Thanks to Paulina & Patricia for the passion you put in your service and food. It shows! We’ll be back :)

We ended up here for lunch recently, when visiting Sydney for a book launch. Our dear friend Ms. TW picked us up from the airport, and swept us away for a Chilean street food lunch. We were in desperate need for food, as they don't feed you on planes anymore. Remember the good old days when they actually gave you a proper lunch or dinner? Nah, it's pretty dim in my mind too.

Pochito specialises in empanadas and coffee, with other items like pastries and sandwiches. Hubby and I stuck to empanadas, while our friend Ms. TW chose the Bacan. Bacan is grilled chorizo on a roll, with slaw and a coriander salsa. She especially loved the salsa, coriander being a fave herb. She enjoyed the spicy, tangy sausage, and the fresh slaw. She felt this was a great combo of flavours and textures.

I went for a garlic, cheese and prawn empanada. This was deliciously cheesy, though I wouldn't have minded a bit more prawn and garlic. But for such a good price, you really can't complain. I wolfed this down, so sadly there are no photos of the interior. The friendly waitress cum part-owner told us that all the pastry is house-made, and all the empanadas are handmade.

Mr P. chose the chicken and mushroom version, which he loved. He said it had a fabulous, herby, white sauce, good pastry, and was just a great combo. Our friendly waitress who is also the part-owner Paulina, told him this was her grandmother's recipe. Or maybe her mother's? Oh Mr P., keep your head straight

And I had alfajores - delicious, delightful, dulce de leche shortbread sandwiches - yep, I had to try this. And it was a delight - sweet, caramel-y, coconutty deliciousness, with a tender, crumbly shortbread. A sweet treat indeed.

Hubby and Ms. TW went for Berlines. These are yeasty German doughnuts popular in Chile, and apparently so-called due to the large German influence from German immigrants to Chile during the latter half of the 19th century. I just know they are delicious. Look at all that squidgy caramel! And there we have the vanilla version. See the lovely black specks of real vanilla? What could be nicer? Yep, that's right - nothing:)

Pochito is a friendly, homey café, with food that is from the heart of the owners Paulina and her mum Patricia. And clearly it is popular with the Spanish-speaking locals, and others too. Worth a drop-in after a lunchless plane flight, for sure.

Love this place since I saw them at the Ramsgate Food Market. The empanadas are amazing. The sandwiches were beautiful. I haven't had anything I didn't enjoy, and I can't wait to try more. Never had Chilean food before, and now I'm addicted. Haha

Heard about this Chilean cafe and had to test them out with a lomito completo sandwich and an empanada. They use a thick slice of tasty (but salty) pork and a fair amount of avocado and mayo although I could have handled more. The empanada had a bit of a soggy bread casing but the filling was great. Overall better than La Paula in Fairfield and probably better value (especially good value for Mascot). The coffee was hot and strong, the cafe is a nice spot, and the staff are notably friendlier and more active than many South American places. Highly recommended.
