Review Renno Spice Chinese Restaurant - Mawson Lakes

I visited this restaurant for a group lunch on Sunday 8th May (mother's day). The group lunch had been pre-booked and a table for 12 reserved. The set up of the restaurant is good. We all ordered lunch from the banquet menu. Unfortunately, it took about 2hours to get our food, even kids meals took that long. The orders were also extremely mixed up. The food was delicious, and the portions were big enough for sharing. The glass table and lazy Suzan were not well cleaned, they looked abit hazy and not well cleaned. The restaurant was very busy on this day given that it was mother's Day. The restaurant is greatly short- staffed with only 3 staff, taking orders, delivering meals, clearing tables as well doing the actual cooking in the kitchen. Might give them another try soon.

Since new owners William and his wife took over the restaurant the food has not only been excellent but the price is very reasonable and the service amazing. You cannot beat their lunch time special which is a decent serve comes with either plain or fried rice and vegetables. I've tried a lot of their dishes and all have been tasty and really enjoyable so can heartily recommend. A huge change from the previous owners whose food was tasteless and quite expensive. It's a large Chinese restaurant with beautiful and comfortable decor.

Not exaggerating but everything was so good the last time we came. We reckon we picked the right dishes and we will be back again for these ones for sure!

Wonderful food and service! I had the satay chicken and I wish I had ordered a second one because I just loved the flavour so much I wanted more! I also had fried ice cream which was great! They were very busy but still made time for our table of 2. Very friendly staff and delicious food. I recommend this place 10/10

wow! some of the best chinese I’ve had. well cooked food, amazing timely service, excellent value for money. interior was spotless and well laid out, plenty of seats available - perfect for a function of any kind. everything was beautifully cooked and their special fried rice was so flavourful. will definitely be back again!!

After reading all the negative reviews on this Chinese restaurant I had to give it a go for myself. To begin with, a lot of the reviews are exaggerated and poorly written. I last visited this restaurant many years ago when it first opened, now not much has changed since I last went but it was quite an authentic experience compared to many other restaurants that offer the same food around Mawson Lakes & surrounding. The food was great, I tried 3 different meals to make sure it wasn’t just the one great lucky meal. Sweet & Sour Pork and Fried Hokkien Noodles Combination lived up to their standards. Nothing out of this world but nothing negative, they both hit the sweet spot for me, quite literally. The Salt & Pepper Squid however was a great try, different to what you’d imagine. The squid was in a fried fluffy ball, however more squid could have been inside each piece/less batter. I definitely will be back here again to try the rest of this menu. Thanks, Cameron

We went so many time with friends. The food is nice, the food is made by the owners very fresh and so much. The place is nice we needed to wait for the food but after that everything was good. Short Staff you need to be patience and enjoy the time.

Worst Chinese food I have had in a while. The batter on the sweet and sour pork and the Honey chicken were under cooked and very doughy. No honey sauce on the Honey chicken 🤔. The sweet and sour sauce was so thin and watery. Everything was just bland and tasteless and turned out to be a massive waste of money. And on top of all that they couldn't even remember the prawn crackers 😤

Not your typical western Chinese tasting food which was fantastic to taste something more like Chinese food that may actually be cooked in China. We had the steamed dumping followed by the salt and pepper soft shell crab and braised northern Chinese pork. Customer service was fantastic even to the point that they recommend a smaller serve of rice as the serve we ordered was to much for 2 people. All this with 2 glasses of wine and only $70. Say hi to the owner Mary.

Quite easy to drive past this place and not even see it but I highly recommend trying it out. The crispy beef in plum sauce is to die for!

We attend this restaurant on a regular basis. Nice atmosphere and an original menu with genuine Chinese cuisine. Friendly and committed staff

Waited for 45 mins. There was a long wait of Ubereats driver and the restaurant was filled with only 3 tables but could not fulfil orders. Every table had prawn crackers to wait but we did not have any , yet waiting 45mins and still nothing and no noticed of how long our order was going along . Very disappointed in service quality

Went last night for my daughter's 18th birthday celebration. Wow! Beautiful decor, neat and clean. The food was delicious, could not fault it. Very good prices too. We will be coming back for sure and will recommend to our friends and family!

I have ordered takeaway from this place once and eaten in once. Both times the food was tasty, full of flavour and the portions were quite generous. My favourite dishes so far are the salt and pepper squid and crispy chicken with plum sauce. Such a good local restaurant!

Food was cold and bland. So not worth the 30 minute wait. Pathetic. Waste of time. Rude staff made the whole night with an even worse taste in my mouth

Great food! Pleasant staff. <br/>Crispy Beef with Plum Sauce is a major favourite with my family. Recommend dining in for the best food but still pretty good take away.

We come here quite regularly. Pretty cheap price for food, especially the banquets. Have brought friends, family and it's been great every time. 🤛🏼

I believe new owners only taken a few months ago. Suprisingly the food is fresh given there are only few customers due to the location is on the back street of Mawson lakes and u only notice if u drive pass through. I love chilli tofu (bean curd) and sweet and sour pork and bunch of other dishes. Home made fried ice cream is speechlessly good. Food quality is on par with t chow and star house.

It is my first time to this restaurant - went with my family. The place was nicely set out with ample space. The food is really good and the service is excellent too.

Been meaning to go here for awhile just been put off by the poor reviews so since I've eaten at nearly every other restaurant locally tonight would be the night. It's actually not that bad, it's not drive across the town for a meal good it's if your in the area and after a ok meal type of place

Extremely professional and helpful staff. The waiter warned us that one of the dishes we originally selected, the Sichuan Chicken, would be quite hot which allowed us to rethink our dish. Meals were authentic and maybe a little oily but still tasty.

Have driven past this place for 12 months and never thought to stop my son asked if he could go there for his birthday and all I can say is what a choice. Staff were very polite and friendly, prices were reasonable and food was as good as any chimes I have had. Will definitely come back soon<br/><br/>Ps waitress heard it was my sons birthday and put on happy birthday music and brought out fried ice cream and a candle on it...made his day

Delicious Chinese food, particularly for the schezuan lover. I went there in a group of 10. Service was a little slow but the food was amazing. Just as good of not better than Chinese on Gouger street. I would recommend the salt pepper soft shell crab, chilli chicken, and teriyaki eggplant. Nice atmosphere and great service. Very good value for money too. Highly recommended.

Awful customer service and awful food. The food took forever to arrive and was undercooked when it finally was served. The meat was coated in soggy batter and the meat consisted of mostly white fat!. The sauce was luke warm and tasted bland. The waiters seemed annoyed at us when we asked if our food was coming (after waiting around 50 minutes?!). The servers were rude, impatient and made the whole experience unpleasant. I am so disappointed with Renno Spice. I can't believe the audacity of the workers to treat us so rudely, when I would be more than happy to pay decent money for a good meal at a local restaurant. So disappointing. I will never waste my time or money here again.

Nice and Spicy. Another little restaurant that has sprung up in Mawson. The restaurant is nicely set out and clean good to bring staff or clients. <br/>The owner always happy and she acknowledges me when I bring work colleagues. She also makes the effort to do split bills for us. One party I brought were of 9 we could all pay individually well done!!<br/><br/>Now the food........Yummo the sizzling plates are great although can be messy so hold up your napkin until it settles but do try them they are great. You can also ask that certain foods are not included I cant eat onion or capsicum she always makes sure its out and will replace with something I like. Prices are very reasonable.<br/><br/>Do give them ago......

Great Food, Great Price, Reasonably quick, ok service.. Had my belated birthday dinner here. Food was really authentic and tasty. The pricing was very good for the quality of food. The entre's came out at a reasonable time and the mains perfect timing after entre. Drinks list was a little lacking in variety for non-alcoholic options and lacking in 'by the glass' champagne. The waiter was a bit shy and not as accomodating as he could have been but overall the staff we're pretty friendly. I'll be returning for sure.

Nice quick and simple.. Went in for a quick bite. S & p squid was nice. Dumplings were pretty good too. Fast service.

Don't like. Nice service and staff. But the prawn crackers were abit stale. food was alright but not 'amazing'.

Happy. Well we really enjoyed the food, everything was brought out quickly and hot. The service was great very friendly staff and the resturant decor is very nice. Think the only let down was the staff wearing every day clothes, a uniform would be nice and the prawn crackers were a little stale. But other than that we were very happy... Certainly will recommend the resturant to my friends and we will return next time in Adelaide

Awful food, horrible service, terrible value for money. The dishes I ordered were so oily, that a pool of oil at the bottom of the plate made them immediately unappetizing. Least authentic Chinese food I have tasted in Adelaide, made with obviously frozen, yucky, cheap raw materials. I will not be returning to this place even though it's just across the street from home. Disappointing!

I don't know how people could leave a bad review this is by far the best Chinese we have ever had food was great and service was awesome. We were made so welcome really made my wife's birthday a great event the furnishings and chairs so comfortable fantastic large round tables with lazy Susan in the middle making share plates work really well thanks guys for a great time will defiantly see you again

Mrs. Best Chinese meal and service I have had for a long time not your normal Chinese take away type food but really authentic bring a group and order a meal for the table and share among your friends

Terrible Food. Food is horrible, service is ok. The special fried rice was too oily and just stir fried with the premix frozen vegies, the crispy chicken with crunchy chilli was the worst one in the menu. If you want to taste the traditional Szechwan restaurant, don't waste your money and time here, try it in Ba Gou Bu Yi which located in Gouger st.

Tried this place after waiting for months for it to be opened. Restaurant has spice in it so I was pleasantly surprised that it lived up to its name. It's a typical schezuan restaurant so not for the average Chinese food lover looking for your sweet and sour pork and beef in black bean sauce. I enjoyed flavor in all the dishes which were the mapo tofu, beef in spicy pouring oil and chicken with cashew nuts. Will be going back!

Great Decore Terrible Food. Took my wife for dinner and was very disappointed one item did not resemble the picture or menu description, the other was inedible, drinks were ordered but not delivered. will not return.

Disappointing. Waited months for them to open and was so looking forward to trying it. We spent $50 on takeaway for 2 of us and have never been more disappointed in a meal. Neither of us could eat it and the whole lot ended up in the bin and we settled for toast. Restaurant looks great but food was aweful

Must try this restaurant!! Serves were large and very well priced. Menu is not the usual 'Australian-Influenced' Chinese - something different; fresh and yummy!! Decor is very classy but modern at the same time. The service was very friendly - take the time to speak with the owners and understand the regional influences of the menu from all corners of China.
