Review Rifo's Cafe - Maylands

Not many places offer pineapple pizza with chicken on their menu. Pineapple Express is a delicious pizza. The toppings are generous & filling. Thank you for having this on your menu. Staff are attentive & friendly ✨

Breakfast was delightful this morning. A very friendly welcoming upon arrival. We were seated and coffee order taken right away. The staff were attentive and the food order was taken. The food came out just as ordered hot and delicious. Coffee was strong and hot. Definitely recommend for breakfast. We were there about 9.30am and it wasn't too busy at this time on a Saturday however I have driven past and it has been packed so I suggest booking.

2 pizzas that were small in size 1 hard garlic bread and small chips $73. Overpriced takeaway. Pizza had limited toppings. Half Hawaiian half meat lovers. With 3 half meatballs. Absolutely will not go again and insulted by the small pizza sizes. Dominos is far superior.

Worst experience ever. I asked for a gluten free gnocchi (delivery) and they gave penne pasta instead. I don't even sure if is a gluten free option. Of course I didn't take the risk because I'm celiac. All my money to the rubbish Definitely never again !!!

Hands-down the best breakfast in Perth. Poached eggs are always cooked to perfection - never runny & never too hard. Bacon is always slightly but not too crispy. Coffee is always delicious. Excellent customer service & we're always looked after really well by the staff. Dinners are always really nice too! Can't wait to come back!

Went and got an Eggs Bene.. I asked for hashbrowns and mushrooms.. What i got was cold uncooked toast with a small piece of bacon, an egg and hollandaise sauce EVERYWHERE.. it was a mess, no effort was taken in packaging the product at all, and who gets things on toast but wants the toast uncooked? Also notice my hashbrowns were included in the same container as my mushrooms.. yes this did leave me with soggy mushroom water flavoured hashbrowns.. and no it wasn't pleasant.. Seriously don't even try here.. they used to be great but lately it's been getting worse, they don't care and for this price it's better to go to the Coffee Club

$30 for this. The 'Meateor'. Looks like it was made by a 6 year old. Nothing like the photo on their website. Italian cuisine is supposed to be bountiful. This is just stingy.

I go there at least once a month for breakfast, its nice to have someone else cook for a change. The food is delicious, the portions are big, the prices are reasonable, the service is first class, the staff are friendly and professional. I highly recommend Rifo's.

My Friend and I had breakfast there on Friday morning we ordered our food while we waited several others came in ordered and were served be fore us we thought ok maybe our order was a big one, then after an hour we find out our order never made the kitchen so another 25 mins on top of that out came our food which was incorrectly cooked how we had asked for it on leaving I explained the situation and the manager was rude and non responsive the owner over heard this and stepped in which was good and gave me 25% off won’t be going back so save your cash and stay away !

After having dinner there this evening i am sorry but i wont be back, we got the salt and pepper squid, it actually should be called salt and pepper batter as thats what we got a big plate of batter and very little squid. the mains we got nannas sunday kitchen or what ever it is called was a plate full of mash (very average) brocolini that werent cooked long enough and the chicken was over cooked and chewy, dish was ok but well below par for qualified chefs.
And the waitresses should really have set tables, we had two girls ask us for a drink order and two girls ask if we wanted to order our food, me thinks left hand not talking to the right.
and sorry but the menu is limited.

Go there regularly.. On Wednesday nights best pizzas ever! Nice ambience. Best lunch specials in town!

I come here at least once a week for a drink. I call them telling my order when leaving my house and once I get there it’s ready and I just need to pay (I live 1 minute away from rifos). The workers are nice and they work fast, I’ve also tried there pizza before and i think one of the best pizzas I’ve had. Definitely recommend!

First timer and won’t be the last!👌🏽
Came in for lunch and service was friendly.
They have $17 pasta lunch specials and the penne chicken with a creamy tomato sauce was perfection🥰 Pizza was delightful with a crust nice and crisp and the walnut salad was tasty.
Everything looked delicious on the menu and already deciding what I want for next time😂
Exceptionally tasty pasta dishes, quite probably the best tasting I have had in Perth at the time of writing. Their lasagna dish is quite tasty as well. Customer service was also top-top. Overall, a very nice experience for a Saturday afternoon, definitely recommending this place!

Although the food was good our evening was spoiled when it came time to pay the bill. We used the Entertainment Book voucher and when we got the total bill we asked for it to be divided into two so that each of us could pay our share for ourself and our partner. We were told by the woman on the counter that we could not do this if we used the Entertainment Book. When I said that this is not correct as we were not asking for a seperate bill (rule 10 in the Entertainment Book) her answer was "are you calling me a liar". She then called her manager (I think) who also refused to divide the bill and gave an illogical excuse that it would cost him more if two credit cards were used. We weren't going to make a scene, although with hindsight I think we should have, and one member of our party paid the bill. Needless to say, it is unlikely that we will go back to Rifos given the rudeness of their staff and the lack of knowledge of the difference between separate bills and simply dividing a bill into two for payment. The retaurant clearly has no idea of the value of goodwill, which is a shame.

Had this place on the list of possibilities after a weigh in. Such friendly service and the food was delicious. Well covered my craving after 6 weeks of clean eating.

We stopped in here for dinner last Saturday. No booking but no hassle. We sat towards the back and i watched the poor pizza guy try to deal with endless orders. We had bruschetta, pasta and a pizza that had no base. Who knew. Everything was fresh, tasty and served relatively quick although I think they forgot our pizza. The service was faultless at the table though.

Had a pleasant lunch today. We were greeted by a friendly waitress on entry and invited to sit wherever we liked. Water, glasses and menus were promptly brought, and we were asked if we’d like to order drinks immediately and said no thanks.
Questions about modifying dishes were dealt with politely and without fuss. We ended up ordering a couple of drinks, garlic bread and two pasta dishes. The drinks arrived quickly. Food took a little longer, and we were a bit surprised when pasta arrived before garlic bread, but reassured it was coming.
W enjoyed his chicken and avocado fettuccine with sundries tomatoes. I liked my spaghetti valentina (rocket, olives, asparagus, bocconcini) but found it a little bit oilier than I would have preferred. The garlic bread and drinks were good.
We had an Entertainment Book voucher, which brought the bill down to just over $50.
Nice food, great service.

The food here is pretty good, nothing spectacular but what you would expect of a local restaurant. The staff are attentive and efficient. I quite like sitting outside and people watching while enjoying my meal

Service is good, food comes fast. Seek out the specials, they have a lot. I found - for the price - I wanted more. Quaint place worth a try but in the Mt Lawley/Maylands area not my first choice.
Perthfoodie
Yummy pizza, I've been here a few times now and it has always been good quality & nice service. Nothing stand out, but I've found it to be a reliable place to enjoy a meal.
Angelo
Ordered two Cherry Field breakfasts. There was way too much rocket on top of the avocado. My dish had an average amount of cherry tomatoes but my partners had barely any.... Overall good but need a lot more consistency in plating of dishes.

Huge servings (especially entree squid!), has a warm relaxed atmosphere. Squid, portofino pizza and carbonara were all delicious. Well priced. Will return!!

Great place to have breakfast in Maylands. The interior gave us such a warm escape on a winters morning. The food is simple and honest but well done and extremely good value. The coffee was great and the surface prompt. A Maylands institution really.

Best wood fired pizza I've ever had. Good friendly staff, fast service. Its open whenever I go there. Take away pizzas only $15 weeknights. Early morning coffee is best.

Perfect place to relax and watch the traffic go by.
Extensive selection for breakfast , lunch and dinner.
Wood fired pizzas are great.
Certainly recommended.

Had lunch there on a public holiday. Food was OK, service was quite good, even brought out some water for the dog. Nice touch. We live nearby and have only been to Rifos about three times. It's not outstanding food but great location to people watch in Matylands and often the only place open in the town during public holidays.
Rob Brajkovich
Good food, nice pizza and pastas, reasonably priced with good portion sizes, does great coffee probably the best in eight ave in my opinion. In entertainment Book, which is great. Great salads, been here 3-4 times in last 12-18 months and consistent.
Rachel Mercer
Was terrible service. Waited an hour for food and when I asked how long it would be the manager was absolutely obnoxious and basically accused me of lying about how long it had been and spoke down to me like it was my own fault. Would never go there again.
MrsHalley
food was ok but the wine list was horrendous.
Seriously people, you have some of the most amazing local wineries on your doorstep. Your wine list makes you want to drink beer. Disappointing

Rifo's is an OK place to have an early breakfast. My daughter had the eggs benedict which was OK. I had the eggs, toast and bacon, which whilst cheap at 15 bucks was only passable. The poached egss were great, but the toast was less so. I asked for the bacon to be crispy but it ended up on the burnt side. I often mention the fitout in my reviews because I enjoy sitting in a fresh, light space to have my meal and Rifo's tends more to the old school Italo-centric vibe. The coffee was good. Given the competition in this part of Maylands Rifo's would be well served to sharpen up it's game.

Awesome place
Would come again
Good coffee
Good breakfast
There is beer on tap as well
Parking could be challenging
Friendly stuff
Good food people

Had dinner on a Friday night a couple of months ago and have been wanting to write this review for a while. Ordered a couple of drinks - and the fried calamari for a starter. Portion is very large and probably can be shared by 3/4 people. It tastes ok. For mains - my partner had the chili mussels - very average. I had the veal scallopini - terrible, the meat was hard and overcooked and could not enjoy eating what is usually one of my favourite dishes to try when I see it on a menu. The prices are also very high and when it is matched with very poor food - really makes me wonder.

Used to be a great favourite of ours, but food is very average now, and service needs attention. Would suggest to the wait staff that if something is not available on the menu then tell that to the diners before they order rather than after! One of the waiters spilt orange juice all over the table when he delivered it and he just walked away and didn't bother to clean it up. Won't be returning for a long time.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday. Tables seemed a bit close together. Ordered the Parmi and my partner had pasta. Didn't have to wait too long but then they gave it to the table sitting next to us. Despite all four of us insisting it was ours the waitress went to check leaving it sitting on the other table. We eventually got our meal. It was possibly the worst Parmi I've had in Perth. My partner said her pasta was ok. Won't be back.

On a Tuesday evening in a winter, I caught up with a friends. We ended up in Rifo's. I heard the pizza and pasta were good at that moment. But I didn't feel like having a big appetite. So we ordered a salt & pepper squid and potato wedges. The portion of their food surprised me. I just realized that I might have been used to the small serve of food in CBD. It was quite a cheerful moment in my body when I saw the waitress walking with two massive plates. Value for money, I supposed that can be only seen in a cafe at the outskirt of the city. I think I'll try their pasta and pizza next time.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
The coffee isn't the best, and last time I visited it was burnt! Ouch. Told them and they replaced it but still tried to charge me for two coffees at the till. Won't be back.
Fred
Food wasn't bad but far from outstanding. Everything was a bit bland. I had the gnocchi which was under seasoned. It had no Parmesan and when they asked if I wanted some, I of course said yes. What I got was packet grated crap in a shaker which they wanted back for another diner after a few minutes. This is an Italian restaurant. Splurge and offer your diners some proper Parmesan already on the dish and extra freshly grated for those cheese honks like me who want extra!! The bar lady needs to be retrained or replaced. My wife and I ordered a soft drink and bottled beer. The soft drink came out after 10 minutes but no beer. I had to ask the waitress again. We're taking about taking 2 lids off. Not rocket surgery. All tables near us had the same issue with receiving drinks. Pizza was ok but one of my pet hates is pizza serves on a plate rather than a chopping board. You may as well serve microwave pizza as it's as soggy as one after 1 minute. Would I go back? The venue is nice but they need to make simple changes to make it worthwhile revisiting so until then, no

There are many variables in life, but also some constants – for me, one of those can be expressed as a simple equation: day when I’m not at work = day when I go out for breakfast. Unfortunately, Christmas wasn’t paying attention and after suffering the indignity of having to cook my own bacon & eggs on Christmas Day, I headed out early on Boxing day and ended up at Maylands icon Rifo’s Cafe with a few other lost and / or hungry souls.

Service is always great here, love coming here. Woodfired pizzas are great, and even though they are busy our takeaway pizzas were ready in no time on a Saturday night. A Maylands gem.

Lovely breakfast and coffee served with a smile always makes things taste better. The coffee was slightly cooler than what I liked but has a great taste and the OJ was very fresh tasting also.

Yum! I took half a star off because the staff were a bit out of it when we got there but otherwise it was perfect. Great food and atmosphere.

Delicious food, wonderful service and great value for money! I can highly recommend rifos to everyone! A great place to spoil yourself!! :-)

Have been to Rifo's many times over the past few years and have always been pleased with the food. They usually have a great selection of cakes too so suggest you save room for a tasty dessert!

Dog friendly :)
We had breakfast outside with our pup! Coffees were suprisingly very good, but a small size flat white was 4$, expensive for the amount of coffee we got.
Finally reasonably priced italian food. Went here for my birthday, quite a large group but the staff was patient. The chocolate milkshakes are delightful! Found the iced coffee too strong. Favourites were the basil pesto penne and chicken and avocado fettucine. The chilli and garlic prawns fettucine and vegetarian pizza were okay (fettucine had a bit less sauce for my liking). Friend got a lasagne and loved it too. Generous portions, can't wait to be back! :D

Mmm, it was ok. Husband ordered a burger which was good but nothing special. I had a prawn and bacon pizza on gluten free base. Really good, tasty, crispy base but the toppings were just a bit below par. Nothing special. Plus our meals came out 10mins apart which is a real pet hate of mine. I had to wait while my husband ate his burger (no point him waiting for my meal and his going cold) and he was practically done by the time my meal arrived.

Not a bad meal but I wouldn't rush back.

Great food. Sensational breakfasts! Coffee is above average but not amazing. Plenty of room at the tables and the service was quick, friendly and efficient.

If you close early during winter make sure it's posted on google, trip advisor, and Zomato. It's been winter for a while now, you've had plenty of time. Was not happy being turned away at 8.15pm on a Tuesday night. Will not be returning. Highly disspointed.

Went to come here for a mid week date night. Arrived at 8:30 on Tuesday night to discover that the kitchen had shut, and the venue was closing soon. All this dispite every online publishing (zomato, yelp, tripadvisor etc) stated a 10pm closing time. I had even called in the morning to double check closing times. The gentleman who had informed us that they were closing didnt seem to care to the fact we had travelled from Scarborough, he didnt double check with the kitchen for a sneaky order, or even offer us a chance to sit and have a quick beer. Second option on the way home was McDonalds. Thanks for nothing Rifos, will not be bothering to return for second rate italian which might not even be available

In the hunt for a neat local place to call our "regular" we tried Rifo's Cafe - great location in the 8th St Precinct and we were greeted promptly by friendly waitstaff as soon as we entered the doors.

Drinks and entree orders taken quickly and came out without a fuss.

Good start.

Don't order the garlic bread. It's a waste of time and energy eating it. Dry and flavourless. Would be better suited as a teething aid for toddlers.

We had decided to share a plate and a Pizza for mains. The Veal and the Llambi's Special pizza sounded good.

The Scaloppine came out quite quickly. The sauce was tasty and the broccolini was al dente - the veal, however, was Trop Cuit! Very dry and with a thick stripe of sinew.

Much later the Pizza came out—This was delicious. A simple tomato, mozzarella and basil base, with perfectly cooked prawns perched on top.

Serving sizes were adequate for the price tag.

Will return, only to escape doing the dishes at home.

Recently visited on a very wet Sunday morning. Were promptly seated even without having made a booking, service was both friendly and professional. Decor was quirky but very welcoming, loved service window to the alfresco dining idea.

The hot chocolate arrived served in a glass with two marshmallow's on the side (yummy). Hot chocolate meanwhile was rich in flavour and just the way I like it.

Only dropped by for hot chocolate. However, after briefly perusing the menu would definitely return for something more substantial.

Sigh..I've come here a few times for lunch and breakfast and I always have high hopes for this place. But get disappointed every time. I'm always served late and my food arrives late and is sub par. Got scrambled eggs this morning and they arrived cold and looked like they'd been cooked in a microwave. Another time I came here, there was a really long strand of black hair in my pasta which really put me off. We complained and they offered another dish, but I was just put off to receive the same dish. When we went to pay, they charged us for it! I guess the jokes on me for coming back again. Please lift your game in the food dept Rifos! The staff are friendly but seem disorganised.

Disappointing food & poor service - a bad experience. My boyfriend and I have been to Rifo's a few times and they are very hit and miss (probably more miss than hit). Our recent dinner there however will be our last visit, after being let down a few too many times now. It was a fairly quiet Sunday night and our order was taken promptly. A good start. We ordered the 'Mediterranean' pizza and distinctly asked for leg ham to be added (which the waiter repeated to us and confirmed). When the pizza came out, it was missing the ham and we proceeded to explain the mistake to the owner. They took the pizza back, and returned about 5-10 minutes later with the same pizza and greasy fried whole slices of ham plonked on top (the type you get from the supermarket for sanwiches). Not only was the pizza cold by now, but the ham was oil soaked and awful, seeping into the pizza and making it a geasy, soggy mess. Not once did the owner or wait staff return to ask how the meal was and check whether their mistake had been properly rectified. Worse yet, when we went to pay, the owner quickly disappeared from the counter to tidy up some tables that hadn't even been eaten at. We were instead left to deal with the inexperienced waitress, and when we told her about our disappointing experience, she seemed fairly clueless and shrugged. We were charged full priced, didn't get an apology and weren't sweetened up with a free drink etc. As soon as we paid and walked out, we noticed the owner quickly dart back over to the register to ask the waitress what we had said. We were both very upset by what we had experienced, and while mistakes made during ordering aren't uncommon, it is the follow-up response which separate the good restaurants from the poor. Rifo's does not care about its customers.

We used to love the pizza at Rifos - wood fired, authentic Italian pizza but last night's takeaway order was terrible! They put some disgusting dried herbs over everything and it all seemed a bit fatty and Domino's for my liking. Will not be going back. Why do new owners muck around with businesses that are doing a good trade? Just leave it as it is, that's how we like it!
Richie
Won't be back again - very disappointing. We decided to go to Rifo's for breakfast on Saturday morning and am now wishing we chose Mcdonalds instead. The cafe was very busy which you would expect for a weekend. We were seated quite quickly but that is where the positives ended. I ordered a coffee which took 45 minutes to make and when it arrived it was cold and pretty tasteless. We waited over an hour for food which once again was cold and very average and not what i was expecting at all. When i questioned the staff about the wait time I was told they were very busy and I am happy to wait a reasonable time for drinks and food when a restaurant is busy but to wait 45 minutes for a coffee is unacceptable.
I also overheard staff at the takeaway counter complaining that they were running out of "everything" with guests having to eat their meals with teaspoons.
Overall a very disappointing experience and one I will not be repeating.
Gibsey69
Popped in for flying lunch with work colleague. Pre-ordered chicken Turkish with side salad.
It was ok, nothing special , very tight on the chicken, side salad was nicely dressed but heavy on the onion.
$15 was a bit stiff to be honest, had brekky there before which was much better
Rodolfopereira
Great food. Congratulations, since new management took over we can see great service improvements and great food, nice place for a meal.
Master Anastasia Lambetsos
So delicious and fantastically priced. I had the Turkish breakfast and each ingredient was top quality. Would definitely go back
Ben
Much to be desired. Thought we'd try Rifo's as we live locally...stood waiting to be seated before eventually giving up and finding a table ourselves, service was slow even though there seemed to be plenty of staff on and it was a weeknight. Garlic bread came out cold and the beef gnocci was the plainest and most average I've had, only ate half. Cost is high considering all this. Will not be back.
Richardboyd1963
Good food but waiter forgetful. It's our local and we go once a week. Recent changes in staff. Ordered our food on hot evening and an ice bucket that never arrived. Food was good but owner shows stress of running the business in his face as he walls around. Great to sit outside on a hot evening and feel the breeze with good food so we come back but double Order the ice bucket!!
Blakak92
Wrong order.. Tonight i ordered a take away calzone, and asked specifically that it only have cheese and tomanto sauce. I get home, Cut it open and there was ham and also full to the brim with rocket.
Pretty disapointed.
Andygurl407
Disappointment. I hesitated to write a review, but after various disappointing visits I decided constructive criticism never hurt anyone.
I do sympathize with fellow hospitality workers and the repercussions of negative reviews on websites like these (as I was hospo not long ago). The wait staff are friendly and attentive, never had a bad experience in regards to service.

The coffee: I had their coffee several times. The coffee was extremely bitter and tasted as if it were over-extracted. After my second attempt, I came to the conclusion their Barista is not the culprit; rather, the coffee blend itself. Not sure who supplies the coffee (or if it is a blend exclusively for Rifo's). Nevertheless, the coffee is rather deceitful. The aroma is absolutely wonderful, but the taste is highly acidic-very sharp and rather bitter-not my thing!

The food: The advertising during lunchtime is great! The food? not so much.
The first time I went there, I tried their $15.00 pasta lunch special (it was the price that lured me in). Had the lasagna; very generous portion (very exciting at first sight)!Unfortunately, there was absolutely NO love put into its creation. Lacked seasoning!!!! What could have been a delicious lasagna with oozing cheese ended up being a bland chunk of lasagna sheets with splattered (and flavourless) sauce and meat.
Second time- took others with me. I had the their penne pasta. Again, flavourless. Seasoning was non existent! I had to pour salt and pepper and parmesan cheese to add some flavour. My friend had a steak sandwich, meat was tough and gritty, overall bland.
Third time- Pizza. Tried their Diavola pizza. 3 or 4 pieces of chili, 4-5 olives and 6 HUGE chunks of Italian sausage. Base was good, sauce was ok. Overall, smaller and more evenly distributed pieces of meat, chili, and olives would have done the trick! Not sure if they're lacking on the ingredients to save costs. Naively went again for a pizza, and same result. Ingredients are wonderfully combined, but poorly executed. 4-5 pieces of the key ingredient in the pizza.
It is such a shame! It always looks relatively busy during lunchtime and I tried different dishes on their menu hoping that my previous negative experiences were a result of the chef having a bad day (or perhaps understaffed) and hoping I would find their hidden gem.
Put some love and SEASONING into your food chef! Hidden gem was never found.

Midweek Feast. My wife & I have been looking for interesting dining experiences around Perth, wanting to try different cuisines. On this occasion we had a Scoopon voucher for Rifos thinking that midweek was probably going to be quieter we booked a table for a Wednesday night.
When we arrived Rifos was busy never the less we were greeted as soon as we came through the door, the staff were really friendly and we were shown to our table. After a few minutes we placed our order, we were both having a starter & a main each, it arrived within about 10 minutes we Cod Croquettes & Bruschetta both were a decent size & tasted great.
About 15 minutes after that the mains arrived, Beef Cheek Gnocchi, & I had the Spaghetti Marinara both were again of a good size and very tasty.
We would recommend Rifos to anyone who wants good Italian food.
Robin.ellis
Rifo would be disgraced. For the last 10 + years Rifos has been my favourite local to walk to for a garaunteed delicous meal and an all round enjoyable time. Ever since the change of ownership it has been anything but.
The man who appears to manage the daily goings on at the cafe fails at the simplest of things - that being customer service, so much so that he could be easily misinterpreted as being rude.
The waiters/waitress' often fail to even greet you with a smile and a hello.
There is usually extensive waits to be served, to be offered a menu or even some drinking water.
As there's endless amounts of other cafes in close proximity that are happy to take my money in exchange for good food and good service (even just a smile) my wife and I have agreed that we will not be returning.
Love Eating Out
Great little find. My husband and I went on a Thursday night with a voucher. We were impressed straight away with the decor. Nice vibe to the cafe and outside would be great when the weather is nice.
We ordered chorizo sliders and baked ricotta for entre and were very impressed with the size and both were very tasty. We then had the chilli garlic prawn fettuccine which was a stand out dish. The pizza was also very fresh and delicious.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pizza chef even offered to put our left over pizza in a box before we even asked.
Definitely recommend this little corner cafe.

Love it !. Went to Rifos tonight as I hadn't been there for many years... Looks like management has changed as the menu, the decor everything seemed different. Ordered starters the cod croquet and chorizo sliders, both were fantastic, I really wanted to have steak but I told the waiter that I am very fussy about my steak, so the manager called out the Head Chef and made me explain how I wanted it cooked, and the steak was cooked to perfection - beyond what I expected... I have to give it to that manager guy there at Rifos he is very good if not the best in Perth as he is very friendly and attentive with his service. my wife had a beef cheek gnocchi which was totally amazing as well. Loved it will definitely be coming back and highly recommend to anyone for a great casual Italian dining experience. .

What happened to Rifo's?. This place use to be amazing. Breakfast took 1 hr to arrive and the service was shocking. Will not be going back very disappointing!!!!

What is the quality of the produce when you put rocket covered in black spots yellowing and wilting on a pizza and who is chosing to ignore these obvious signs and still think this is appropriate standard to serve a customer? only ordered one pizza and wont b back.used to b a great cafe..wouldnt trust the chef in this kitchen at all.

We had a very disappointing meal at Rifo's this week:
- the waitress wouldn't agree to my request to bring one kids serve of spaghetti as a half size for my 3 year old, even when I said I'd pay full price;
- my lasagne was served cold; and
- thewaitress had to be reminded twice to bring two slices of bread, which eventually arrived when we finished our meal.
To his credit the manager didn't charge me for the lasagne, but we won't be back.
Very poor indeed.

Great cafe and good food. Had a second enjoyable meal at Rifo's in Maylands.
Incredible deal on a scoopon but will return again regardless.
All the food was fresh, nicely prepared and tasty.
Portions were good and prices were acceptable.
Nice choice of pizza options - some not so common
Try it, you won't be disappointed

Wish it was in our neighbourhood. Nice quirky little place with tables inside and out. On our visit it was too cold for us to be outside but were lucky to get the last inside table. We found the wait staff friendly and helpful. We went with a voucher, but were still treated well, unlike some restaurants that could learn from this place. The menu is mainly Italian with a variety of pasta dishes and wood fired pizza. We had the pizza bianca and chorizo sliders which were YUM for starters. Our mains were spaghetti marinara and carbonara. Our only complaint was the pancetta in the carbonara could have been rendered a bit more. We were too full to try the deserts, but they looked really nice. Wish we lived closer, but we will be back.

Father’s Day Disgrace. Where to start in this disgrace of a meal?. My five year old little girl along worked hard all year to treat me a meal at Riffo’s, in Maylands, using her pocket money. What was served was something that was to resemble chilli mussels. Firstly the crockery was filthy dirty. When the service staff was notified, a shrug of the shoulders & a couldn’t care less attitude blamed the dishwasher without offering to present something better. Being too afraid of what may go on in the kitchen should it be sent back, I thought I had better turn a blind eye to the filth.

Now about the “chilli mussels” The chilli mussel portion size was ok, until I realized that at least half of what was served were empty shells! Chilli? What chilli, I thought to myself. The poor excuse of mussels were served in a mucky dirty looking water. In which resembled salty dirty dish water, I found it hard to swallow let alone enjoy! Perhaps the restaurant should have washed the dishes in their “dishwater” sauce before serving them!

My little girl’s chicken nuggets & chips looked more inviting & probably tasted a lot better than the $35 rip off of mussels. So the moral of the story is STAY AWAY! Should you value your stomach & health

Has gone downhill rapidly since the change in management. Basic customer service, food quality and quantity all left to be desired now. A shame as this was my handy local.

Amazing food. We used a voucher for dinner and the pizza and pasta we ordered were superb. Pasta was delicious with generous serving size. I think their pizza was the best I've every had since arriving in Perth. Hope they will make this deal available again!

Had dinner at Rifo's last night, and was very impressed! Staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent.

I ordered the garlic and chilli prawn fettuccine and my partner had the spaghetti marinara. Both dishes were massive, tasty, and had plenty of seafood.

We used a discount voucher which included wine, entrees and mains. It was excellent value, but after this experience, we'll be back and will quite happily pay full price.

Keep it up, Rifo's.

Disappointing. I used to dine here every couple of weeks with friends and the food was always good and the service friendly. Tonight we waited 15 minutes for drinks and almost an hour for a couple of salads to be made. The calamari salad had about half of the calamari that it used to and the other salad had a couple of slices of pear and a few crumbles of cheese. The food is no longer value for money and we won't be going back.

Very disappointed!! My hu.... Very disappointed!!

My husband and I enjoy going to rifos for dinner not realizing that the cafe is under new management. In the past, service was fantastic, diligent and more importantly, food was amazing with value for money. The menu had a makeover with less pastas, pizzas and more 'westernized' Italian dishes (pasta served with chips) than previous. This is when we noticed something was different. I ordered the usual, carbonara but it was served with spaghetti and not fettucini this time which is fine however, the dish was a let down, spaghetti was swimming in oil and tasteless! We were not offered cracked pepper with our pasta dishes. We wanted a drink and no staff had paid attention to our table or checked if the food was ok (as previous) and it took around 10mins to have an ordered drink reach our table when we were finally served.

I don't usually leave feedback on many things but felt it was necessary this time as rifos was one of our favourite places to eat but no longer due to staff neglect and food was not to the same quality as before.

Amazing Pasta & Gnocchi. Went the other night for the first time and was pretty impressed from the start. Great service and reasonable prices was followed up with really amazing food. Being Italian makes for a critical approach to pasta dishes but I have to say my marinara was spot on and sizeable while the wife's beef cheek gnocchi were possibly the best I've ever had. Do yourself a favour.

Disgraceful Service. Is our little local italian takeaway and have always had a pleasant experience. Decided to give it a go since the recent Change of hands.

Went for an early dinner on Sunday.

Food very average since the new ownership / menu.

Service was terrible, especially considering the place was empty.

Will not be returning - very disappointed.

Great Food and Super big portions. Had dinner last night at Rifos and after reading the reviews here I didn't have much expectation. However, Rifos exceed any sort of expectations that I possibly had.
The portions are huge and the food was very taste too. We had the mini spicy burgers and the fish croquette for entree and both were divine... I tell you... we are very fussy when the subject is food... we do appreciate flavoury dishes.
Main courses we had pasta and it was also great, especially the gnocchi formaggi... absolute to die for....we were four people and apart from me, no one could finish their dishes as it was too big...hehe, but we all loved the food.
I would definitely recommend Rifos for a quick and yummy bite.

Fair food here but good service, we been there many time since we moved to Maylands.

We brought a voucher to go this time. We have attempt 2 times and we can used this voucher. Booking was long list.. we have wait nearly 1 week. we know they are busy but I can't accept the booking in advance for a week.

Voucher rules was really STRICT. Even we don't want to get a wine or beer and instead to coffee, they still can't let us to go. Why? Coffee was cheaper then Beer?

Order Portofino Pizza, TRADITIONAL BRUSCHETTA and chicken & ??? pasta? All was not enough taste..

Thinking to go again or not?

Great food!. Great service tasting plate for two was amazing and seafood marinara pasta was a hit at our table! All in all an enjoyable lunch out

Great food average culture. Just ate at the restaurant Chicken and Avocado Pasta was really nice. Beer was over priced but hey that is Perth...charge $11 a pint, I guess that is because you can!!

The young lady that served me was polite, nice & smiled......the rest of the staff struggled to smile, unless they were having a joke with each other. The second waitress and pizza cook almost looked like they where going out of their way not to engage their customers......come on guys you are the face of the business....the food was good but not good enough to make it a great experience.

Its not hard to give your customers an experience that they want to return for...take up the challenge.

Menu Change. My boyfriend and I used to go here every weekend and I would have recommended it to my friends over any restaurant, 3 weeks ago. Recently when we've been it's been disappointing when we get a meal and the menu a bit boring. We went today, had a look at the menu and then left because nothing on the menu caught our attention like the old menu did. Coffes still great though!

They have changed ownership..... It's great. Thought we would try a plate of pasta...well, the menu had changed, the level of service had changed and the meal was fantastic!
Try the garlic and chilli prawn pasta...to die for.

Good food - service could do with an upgrade!. Booked a table for dinner. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere we liked so we chose a table and sat down. After nearly 15 minutes of waiting, we called the waitress over to ask for menus. When we were finally able to put our order in we asked for the "entrees" (wedges and garlic bread) to come out with our mains. They arrived 5 minutes later so that request obviously failed to get through. The pizzas arrived 20 minutes afterwards.
I must say that the food was very good. Plenty of cheese on the pizzas, bases cooked to perfection and not greasy at all. Good size portions too. The waitresses were very friendly, they could just do with a little more training on their service skills. If I were to go back, it would be for takeaway and not to eat in the restaurant.

We had group brunch today. Food werent bad but were not great either. There were no wow factor. Maybe we should have gone for lunch instead. However, I'm still impressed with their 5 Sense coffees, liked it so much. Im not voting like/dislike for now. I'd wait until next visit and hoping Rifo's would impress us that time and decide.

Maylands deserves better. Big serves do not make up for lack of passion in the food

Cold pizza, poor service and bad attitude

Terrible service

Best pizza in town♥♥. Love the homemade cakes as well. Friendly staff. Very happy!!

Way overpriced for quality. Agree with these comments that the food quality has also declined in the last year. Service is really poor, like they're doing you a real favour to serve you. Something with the management isn't working here.

New rifos not so good. Yep, this place definitely has changed hands. new workers seem slow and inexperienced, nothing like the old girls i was used to seeing. food was slow to come out as well though i cant criticise my eggs benedict, not that its hard to get it right. i was usually getting good coffees in the mornings, but not today. i think its time to find a new brekkie spot

I've been a regular at Rifo's for quiet some time and have to mention the new blend of coffee they are serving is delicious, last week had our Aunties 80th Bday there and the Chilli Mussels were mouth watering, thumbs up all! Have to mention the Tiramisu we had after, simply delicious.. Great service and food at good price.

Wow. its gone down.... I have always loved rifos, i frequent the place on a regular basis for a decent coffee but recently the feel has just completely changed. i can hardly recognise any of the faces i loved, and whoever these new staff are seem to have no idea what theyre doing or even how to crack a smile. if i get in early enough i can still get a good coffee from the younger girl, but otherise stay away. my favourite redhead coffee girl is no where to be seen. in fact most of the girls that really made the place worthwhile seem to have disappeared. im sure this place has changed hands. definitely not the rifos i knew and loved. suppose its not so bad, there are lots of other coffee shops on my strip to try

Excelent pizza and very helpful staff.

Absolutely terrible. All meals were bland. Pasta was undercooked. Sauces had no flavour. Complained got a discount but then got overcharged $100 because of split billing. Never going back.

No refund on bad food. I am a regular at Riffos. Normally OK but you only know when it goes bad. Had a Luca big steak well done. Came out as pink as Penelope Pitstop and masked by the sauce. Nibbled at the edges that the oven singed a bit, ate some chips and then could not continue and complained. it went away and nothing compensated or came back. Drank my wine, went to pay the bill and asked if I had been charged $35 for that steak. No they knocked $15 off but still had to pay $20 even though it was taken away only quarter eaten. German supervisor would not refund that meal. They don't know how to treat their regulars who spend $80 to 100 a time with them. Needs a shakeup there in customer service.

Great good, bit pricey. I regularly go to rifos. And I can say without a doubt best pasta and pizzas, during lunch time service anyway. I often go there for lunch as they have the $15 special. However, the portion sizes are way too big. Like me and my partner can share a plate and we're both full. If they could bring the plate size down, then they could bring the price down with it. As rifos is pretty pricey.

Diner from Perth. We used to be regulars here, loved the generous portions, tasty food and wonderful Italian welcome from the owners. Well that's all changed a different menu, small portions and I think must have changed ownership. Wont be going again....

-----16 Jan, 2014-----

Our local. After reading all the bad reviews I felt it only fair to put my two cents in. We are an Italian family who have owned our own successful restaurants in previous years. We have been going to Rifo's for the last couple of years and we have yet to have a bad meal there and the service is always good. Keep it up Rifo's! by the way best chili mussels ever!
