Review Ma Kiin - McMahons Point

We always come here whenever we want some Thai food. Satay chicken is always succulent, just irreplaceable! Another favourite dish would be the prawn with betel leaf. It might be a bit messy but you have to eat the whole thing together, it is just so good. We also had other dishes like pad see ew. Pairing them with Pinot Noir would be perfect, I forgot to BYO this time!!

Tasty Thai food with huge portions. Could choose BBQ pork as a protein which was unusual but a nice add on to my Singapore noodles. Our food (for 2) came about 5 minutes apart from each other.

Great takeaway, never eaten in. Generally fast delivery. Delivered by the restaurant staff who are always friendly. Lots of fresh veggies in the stir fries. I love the salt & pepper eggplant. I would recommend Ma Kiin for takeaway.

We had a seriously delicious dinner and a Shiraz. The whole experience was great. The staff were friendly and the food came quickly. The food itself was well presented and was really tasty. We have recommended Ma Kiin to our friends.

Affordable pad thai for take away. Yummy food very quick prepared and close to North Sydney offices zone

Food is tasty and our waitress was good. Loses two stars from me because the portion sizes I found were on smaller side compared to the price. Secondly, we were told not to drink water from our half finished Coles water bottle as they don't allow outside drinks! Seriously (?) I get it, many restaurants don't allow outside drinks however it's not like we are opening a new can/bottle of coke we bought outside and opening in the restaurant! It's Water! I have dined at many cheap to high end restaurants and this was the first time I had someone telling me I can't drink water from outside! - get real guys! I know you are trying to sell your drinks but selling $2 water bottle is not going to make you rich - on the flip side, better customer experience definitely will!

The place looks pretty nice but the service I received was a complete let down. I went there for lunch and asked if they do dine in and ordered after confirming, and after waiting for 20-25 mins the person hands me a packed up meal to my table. And when I mentioned I wanted to have it here he says no. When I said he said they do prior to order guess what he says; “Can you pay extra?”. Of course, I’m not stupid to expect a dine in meal at takeaway price. Don’t know either he wasn’t listening or was trying to cover up his chef’s mistake. But I’d expect a better approach.

A great little find, with a bit of a Chinese/Thai fusion menu. The crab spring rolls were very light, delicious and a bit different from the normal spring rolls, and the Masaman Curry Beef was yummy. The service was very good and attentive as well.

This place just had horrible service, they welcomed us just fine but one we were in the restaurant they forgot about us. Waited 30 min for food and another 39 min for dessert. They never checked on us the entire time there and had to walk to the front to get anything we needed. If you have 2 hours to kill this is a great place, if not keep walking.

Good vibe, excellent food, lovely service. Highly recommended the best thai restaurant in Sydney. You won't be disappointed I guarantee.

Horrible service. I originally came in just for their mango sticky rice so they put us in a different seating room. We decided to order one entree and one dessert. We spent a total of 50 minutes in the restaurant waiting for both food to arrive. They completely forgot about our table. If you’re visiting this country and don’t have a lot of time on your hand, don’t come here. Food overall is mediocre. Mango was not sweet and coconut was blotchy.

What a great Thai restaurant this is! Had a beautiful dinner with my family and we enjoyed every mouthful. Thought the Salt and Pepper Squid and Spicy Barramundi were superb. The tasty food was accompanied by friendly service and great atmosphere. Looking forward to a return visit.

Four of us dined here on a quiet Sun night in Feb, with a Groupon voucher.

For $88, we each got a glass of wine, two entree pieces, a main course with a small bowl of rice, and ice cream.

The special Groupon menu has limited choices, but sufficient in variety to keep everyone happy. For starters, you can choose from vegetarian spring rolls, curry puffs or chicken satay sticks. Two pieces per person, so for four people, you are allowed eight pieces. But the maths doesn’t quite add up, as three into eight doesn’t go. It would have been better to have four choices, so that we could have chosen two of each. In the event, we ordered two chicken satay sticks, three spring rolls and three curry puffs. They were nicely presented on two trays with a smattering of shredded carrot and lettuce and red dipping sauce to go with them. The spring rolls and curry puffs were crispy and delicious, and I loved the crunchy peanut-flavoured satay sauce for the chicken skewers.

For mains we choose a selection of dishes including our fav massaman beef curry, yellow chicken curry and two vegetarian dishes. The food was of outstanding quality: fresh, tasty and infused with those aromatic, fragrant and spicy Thai flavours that we’ve all come to like so much. The beef was melt-in-your mouth tender, and the chicken was succulent and flavourful. The veg dishes were colourful, wholesome and nutritious and nicely complemented the meat dishes. Clearly, only the best ingredients are used. Serving sizes were just right: not too much and not too little and everything was brought to table, steaming hot, on smart white crockery. The vanilla ice cream was served with a dollop of fresh cream, and we even got to choose the flavour of our toppings: choc, strawberry or caramel. Delicious way to end the meal. Only disappointment was the poor quality of the wine, I suspect the cheapest brand they could find, but that didn’t detract and overall everyone enjoyed their meals.

The atmosphere was fairly quiet, just a smattering of other diners, but that suited us fine as noise levels were low and we were easily able to converse.

The building itself is a landmark, on the corner of Blues Point Road and Victoria Street. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a heritage building, that was once a residence. But full marks to these guys because they’ve managed to retain its elegant style. The interior is simply decorated with white washed walls, tasteful, understated decor, wooden furniture and tables neatly laid with crisp white napery. The whole place has a fresh, clean and appetising look and feel to it and the toilets were no exception. Old fashioned, but tidy, well stocked and easy to find near the front, behind the arches.

There were two staff on duty: a friendly and polite Thai gent, and his young female assistant. They were both both neatly attired and we couldn’t have asked for more attentive and helpful service from them. Orders were quickly taken, and drinks, entrees, mains and desserts came out at a steady clip in the right order. That’s just the way I like it. We were able to enjoy our meals at a leisurely, unhurried pace, and since it was only about half full, we could linger awhile when it was all done, enjoying the quiet ambience on a balmy summer eve.

Parking is another plus. There’s plenty of it on Blues Point Rd, or around the corner in nearby King George St, where there are no weekend restrictions. Either way, you won’t struggle to find a space for your car here.

Overall, we had a great night and everything went off smoothly. The food was outstanding, with fast, friendly and efficient service to match and a relaxed, laid back and soothing ambience to enjoy it all in. Blues Point Road, is a safe, vibrant and trendy locale, with lots of small eateries around and plenty of people out and about enjoying themselves.

The $88 groupon voucher for four people is excellent value for money and I wouldn’t hesitate to take advantage of it again.
