A fantastic Italian restaurant with amazing, delicious and fresh pizzas and pasta. With a great selection of wines and gelato next door, cozy venue and atmosphere, and amazing service - it’s a must try when you’re in the area. It continues that there is so much great hospitality and food outside of the main cities around Australia! 😋
Pizza was very nice. The dough was very light but could have been cooked a tiny bit longer. Toppings were very fresh and tasty. Lovely and cozy atmosphere.
This restaurant was a great find. Delicious pizzas with quality ingredients and lovely thin bases. The pappardelle with lamb ragu was perfect for a cold autumn night. Gelato was indescribably deeelicious and creamy. It was hard to take a good photo of the gelato because the kids didn’t want to wait to start eating it. Service was friendly and warm as if you’ve been invited to a friend’s home to share their home cooked meals. A winner with the adults and kids. Worth driving 40 minutes one way for twin nights in a row from the beach house we rented. Luckily we arrived early the second night because all tables were filled by 6!
Was recommended by my air bnb host to go visit this place. And boy it did not disappoint! If I was in the area again I'll come and eat here again. Great flavours in the pizza and pasta.
Nice little find between Wilson’s Prom and Melbourne. Wood fired pizza prepared well with authentic ingredients. Good outdoor space and I like the varying wine glass sizes.
Gem of Meeniyan! A road trip to the prom and friend brought me here for dinner prior. If i ever going to the prom again, I'll difenitely drop by again.
Chose this place for lunch after seeing the good reviews. However, found out that they only opened at 4pm so we had to get something small in Fish Creek so we could eat here at 4. Had the tempura veggies, they were nice. The lamb they have is local and free range so we took the pizza with lamb ragu which my boyfriend described as bolognese on a pizza. It was nice! Service was friendly. Afterwards we visited the deli across the road which is apparently from the same owner and that was amazing too!
Good service and the meals were delicious.
We had the garlic and rosemary focaccia for starter. It was a very good portion size (as it was only my partner and I), and so crispy and tasty.
We then shared the tomato meatballs and the trulli pizza. Both dishes were incredible. Full of flavour and so satisfying. The pizza base was perfectly made - crisp and not oily.
Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert, as the Nutella pizza was awfully tempting! This place is a must do if you're ever passing through Meeniyan.
Really, truly great pizza. Thin, crusty, chewy base and fragrant, perfectly paired toppings. Honestly a surprise, given my childhood memories of available rural eats. Large wine selection, limited dessert options, place can get a bit crowded for events. Card facilities available.
Simply fresh and quality tasting food. There are few choices in this little town but with what there is on offer, you really don't need to look elsewhere. Only point of improvement would be the service - would of been nice to be acknowledged than have someone look at us then look away when we first stepped in.
Again one of the best margarita I have ever had! One of the best vegetarian pizza one can ever have. The crust was amazing and grilled to perfection. The other pizza on the plate was again a veggie one which tasted equally good. The staff was friendly and the ambience was good too.
Food - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Value for Money - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5
We ordered the capricossa and chicken pizza and both were delicious! the produce used was fresh and the size was generous. would highly recommend a visit here :)
I first met Trulli's co-owner, Arturo, when he was selling delicious little Italian empanada-like pastries from a stall at the Foster market. We started chatting, and he told me that he was planning on opening a very authentic pizza restaurant with his partner in Meeniyan. Then, a little while later, while on holiday in Walkerville, I bought some sauce and pizza dough off him to use in our own woodfire oven. It's taken a while, but I've finally gotten around to eating at the restaurant, which has moved to bigger premises from the original Meeniyan location.
This is very authentic pizza, made with top-quality ingredients, and cooked to perfection in a woodfired oven. This is not Aussie-style pizza with the lot (not that there's anything wrong with that, by the way); instead we get a crisp, charred base with a small number of carefully selected toppings, served on a wooden board to help retain heat and crispness. There is a good range of red and white topped pizzas, and a couple of pastas and other main dishes as well. Some very fancy looking artisan desserts are available to follow. A couple of salads and starters (e.g., anti-pasto) round out the menu. The drinks list is small, but carefully chosen, with an interesting range of Italian and Australian beer and wine.
But it's all about the pizza here, and what Arturo and his chefs pump out in Meeniyan is as good as anything you can find anywhere in Melbourne. The restaurant itself is pretty big, with a very sizeable outdoor area. It's light, open, and very friendly. Service is attentive, quick, and efficient. Even in busy times, the pizza hits your table within minutes.
Trulli is a definite "must visit" if you ever find yourself in the town of Meeniyan. From what I observed, the business was doing well, and so it should. Pizza this good is hard to find.
A woodfired pizzeria in a quiet town on the way back to Melbourne from Wilsons Promontory. As we were seated, can see that it’s also popular for pick-up orders. Decor is light with pine wood coloured walls, tables and chairs, mismatched op-shop style cutlery provided a charming touch.
We shared a large “Tarwin” pizza (spicy soppressata, mushrooms, blue cheese, olives, parsley) and beef bolognese cannelloni. Both had good flavours and pizza dough was spot on.
Tip: Ask what the specials are. We couldn’t see the blackboard from our table nor did our servers communicate that they had any. I only saw the blackboard on my way to the toilet after my meal. There was 2 other pasta dishes!
We come here once a year typically. Always great: staff do a great job dealing with large crowds and walk-ins: we were able to get a table on a busy Saturday as another group were a no-show. Love the authentic pizzas and wind in tumblers. And of course the gelato is awesome!
Had dinner at Trulli Pizzeria last night, we were staying in Gippsland for New Years and thought we’d give this place a try. Absolutely brilliant place. Lovely staff, really accomodating and lovely. We ordered the blue cheese pizza, panzanella salad, beetroot salad, vegetable lasagna and ravioli with lamb ragu (from the specials board). Food was great, came out quickly and piping hot. Keep up the great work!
Had the mixed meat platter. The lamb stew was delicious and the grilled pork was cooked to perfection. Staff are very customer focussed. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are heading to Wilson's promontory.
Great atmosphere with good pizza. Enjoyed our lunch here but the staff are not overly outgoing. Fairly pricey but makes up for it with atmosphere and pizza. Needs some work on the drinks.
Great, cosy Pizzeria in the heart of Meeniyan with fantastic staff and really delicious, authentic Italian food, wine and beer. The pizzas and many other dishes are well worth any travel time it may take you to get here. Make sure to say hi to Francesco the friendly owner.
Ate here two nights in a row. Meeniyan is a small country town. You wouldn't expect to be blown away by a restaurant found somewhere like this but Trulli is amazing. It would not be out of place in any major city food district and even there it would still be one of the best. Brilliant gourmet pizzas, amazing antipasto and a very credible wine list. A few quirks that add to the charm not detract from it (tumblers for wine) and oh so yummy pizzas. Return to Meeniyan during the day and you'll find Trulli isn't the only anomaly as the town has some other surprises for the visitor too. Unlike some other reviewers I found the prices very reasonable. If you are anywhere within an hours drive "do yourself a favor" and eat here!
It's also worth asking why such an amazing pizza place can be found in a small country town - it's a story worth hearing and a tale the staff love telling!
Oh and the staff and the service were beyond reproach.
What a delightful authentic Italian pizza restaurant in the heart of country Victoria. Meeniyan is lucky to have this place. Everything about it smacks of an Italian restaurant transplanted from Melbourne to the country. In fact I thought I was in Melbourne until a milk tanker drove past. The Toscana pizza was splendid and the Tuscan lamb stew reminded me of my late grandmother's cooking ...exactly the same flavours!! Also whoever it was that made the music selections ...some Wilson Pickett, James Brown and a host of 60s girl groups and Motown. I am in love. I had to write this glowing review as I'm taking my very last bite of lamb.
Definitely a place you have to book for even for two but the food is to die for and just like being back in Italy. There isn't a huge range but the staff and more then willing to help you create the taste your after. Very cute interior with lovely outside area. A little on the pricey side but absolutely worth it.
Pizzas authentic and as good as you get in Melbourne. Large pizzas were not much bigger than small, however just as delicious.
Home made ice gelati impressive.
We will be back again next year on our trip back home from a week camping at the Prom.
Fantastic food and friendly staff. Authentic Italian cuisine including desserts. Love eating here whether it's with friends or family, Trulli Pizza never disappoints.
Trulli Italian place. Fantastic thin crust pizza. Lovely atmosphere. Been there a while ago and still remember the place. Definitely will come back.
We stopped there for dinner on our way back to Melbourne from Wilson's prom last weekend and wow what a surprise!! We sat outside in the little courtyard/garden at the back, which was really nice with kids. The pizzas were so good and fresh with lovely ingredients and great thin crust! My cousin had the bruschetta which was really tasty too. The tiramisu was average however the iced coffee was the most amazing we'd ever had! Just unbelievably delicious! Never found an iced coffee like that anywhere else so far! My cousin and I had 2 each! If you like iced coffee you must try this one! What a great local place for those who live in the area and a perfect stop if you are driving through nearby!
Excellent thin crust pizzas that are on the right side of gooey by the time you get to the 2nd piece. We ordered 3 small between the two so gave us a broad intro and loved them all! Good selection of wine at a reasonable price. (Too full to try dessert).
Comfortable contemporary environment - spacious, airy, lots of light and windows. Front terrace, garden terrace or inside - plenty of options for dining. Service very efficient - sometimes felt a little too efficient and therefore a little rushed (possibly due to holiday location and catering for families). Minor caveat - would certainly come back and its certainly the best restaurant I've been to in this part of the world.
The pizza was delicious; the service was quick & attentive. Definitely happy to have eaten here! We also took a few goodies home (lasagne; for dinner tomorrow night!). Happy to recommend Trulli Pizzeria to everyone & will come back if we are ever in the area again!
Hands down, best restaurant in the Prom vicinity. Cosy vibe and very friendly and excellent service. We ordered the special Soppressata and Sicilian pizza and both were delicious and comparable to Melbourne's D.O.C. pizza. We'll definitely be coming back when we're in the area.
Great food, pizzas were great, drinks menu was also great, nice vibe in the place so would have had 5 stars but the service was a let down.
Can't miss the antipastos! They are some of the best I've had out in restaurants. The mixed one is my favourite but the fromage and salumi plates have a great selection too! Great pizza menu I just wish you guys brought back that ice coffee mix!
Best meal near the prom. During our time at the prom we really struggled to find restaurants and places to dine out... until we found Trulli's. Trulli's Pizzeria would give any pizzeria in Melbourne CBD a run for their money with delicious pizza and relaxing atmosphere, make this a destination if you are nearby! Speck, mushroom with truffle oil and BBQ chicken were both so good, what a pity we only visited on our last night!
WOW!!. Had been told these pizzas were comparable to any Melbourne offering and would give DOC a run for its money. You might want to book on weekends especially long ones or holidays. This place will be a regular destination for us.
Yum!. We have been here four times and have not been disappointed. Always nice food and lovely staff.
Rose in a concrete garden. This was a pleasant surprise in our visit to the Prom. We were advised to come here for dinner and rightly so. The pizzas were authentic, simple and used the best ingredients. Trulli would truly be able to stack up amongst the best of them in CBD, Melbourne.
The best around. This place is fantastic, good dining in the area is very limited so this is a breath of fresh air, great real authentic pizza, the chef is from Trulli in Italy and thankfully he and his wife have chosen Meeniyan to set up shop! lovely thin bases with fresh produce, not a piece of shredded ham or pineapple in sight.
You won't be disappointed, I even had a lesson in Italian culture when I dined there, just ask about the pictures on the wall. I was there on a busy sunday night, lots of local kids working too who were doing ok, service was good, I think it's a relatively new business and the local staff are still learning the ropes, but very attentive and eager to help, and the food was excellent, there is a nice outdoor area too.
I'm going back!!
Super tasty pizza with good quality toppings particularly love the seafood with cured lemon- yum yum yum! Also we enjoyed the local tap beer, simply ordering on the table with the kids playing with the hay piles and etc
Love the outdoor and have the games to pass time. Pizza tasted great and pasta too. Friendly staff that recommended pizza choice.
We were on the way to Sandy Point and stopped here for lunch. We had a Margherita pizza and OMG, it was the best Margherita pizza I have tasted.
Claudio, Francesco and the team were amazing catering for our wedding. Super easy to coordinate with and everyone said it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding. Could not recommend higher.
Let these guys work wonders with lamb
The most incredible wood-fired pizzas. Beautiful thin base, quality, local ingredients. The pastas are also amazing. Highly recommend if you’re going past on your way to the Prom, or staying locally in Leongatha and surrounds.
European style deli, cold meats, cheese etc. Assorted condiments, preserves, olive oil. Excellent selection of craft beer and wine. The pizzas were really good, staff fantastic.
