Buonissimo!! Fabulous food and service. We had the Italian cured meats and caprese salad followed by tagliolini al nero with calamari ragu and tagliolini with seafood. They didn't disappoint. Absolutely yummy. The pasta is perfetto. A must do when you're in Melbourne. And the Murano glasses a fabulous touch.
Helpful staff explained lunch time menu. Tasty small serve of delicious pumpkin soup. We shared the tomato & basil spaghetti.. light, simple & tasty.. loved it! Also had the meat ragu.. again yummy! All mopped up with a couple of pieces each of a fresh focaccia. Swilled down with a Chianti. Finished with tiramisu & espresso. Lots of reviews mention price. Well I'm a big eater.. we had a great lunch for 2, 4 glasses of wine between us & shared dessert.. 106 bucks. I thought it good value. Would visit again & definitely recommend! Thanks
I really recommend this Italian restaurant. It’s staff are welcoming and friendly, the ambience is elegant yet homely, the chefs are knowledgeable and approachable, and the flavors are authentic. Overall a very memorable experience.
My favourite place for Friday lunch. Beautiful contemporary Italian food prepared fresh with great flavours, quality ingredients and with attention to detail. Staff is always lovely and friendly and looks after me with a smile. I have tried every meal in their menu and all is great. The steak is the best I had in a long time, just melt in your mouth. I took a photo of the team today which is posted on my FB site with same comments.
Fantastic authentic and fresh Italian food. My partner and I both tried something different that we have never had before and it was beautiful. The restaurant is so lovely and the service from our waiter was exceptional! High recommend for fresh high end Italian!
The best pasta ever eaten in Melbourne and also the best coffee espresso I have ever had here. Trust me people because I'm Italian. I'll come back soon!
The best italian pasta! The flavours are perfectly balanced and I can't stop thinking about it after I have left. The service is very good too.
Have been to Italy many times but this was some of the best Italian food I have ever eaten. Will definitely go back!
We had an amazing experience on sat the 7th July the food was outstanding and the staff were so friendly and nice we loved everything about this fantastic restaurant .
We loved everything about this place from the moment we stepped inside. The service is warm and friendly, the decor elegant and the food is original and absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back!
What a unique, beautiful and authentic modern Italian Restaurant in Carlton. Superb traditional style menu served with classic style. The magnificent colorful glassware from Murano is a beautiful bonus.
Wow! Amazing authentic Italian food, it was like I was in Italy again. Service was fantastic. Mouthwatering Beef and Oysters were the best. Highly recommend.
Last night, once again, I had a wonderful experience. Amazing food, beautiful place, lovely staff, great service! Thank you!!
Amazing food! Authentic Italian food and coffee ! I loved the place really cute everything was perfect even the service :) this place is a gem ❤️
It worth to go and have a dinner. Excellent food especially the pasta and dessert, relax and enjoyable atmosphere, great boss and staffs.
I’ve been coming to Lygon St for many years & tonight was absolutely the best night I’ve had. Delicious, fresh pasta, entrees & desserts. Lovely service & atmosphere.
Great atmosphere and vibe, very special place to dine. The food is so authentically Italian, simply a divine eating experience. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant.
I have never eaten pasta as amazing as this, homemade and traditional great value for such a great product and service. The decor and music was perfect as well. Will definately return.
We went there for late dinner. The place was fairly quiet since we went on a weekday night, which was good as it was peaceful.
We were greeted by an Italian waiter who was amazingly friendly and kind. He took care of us from the moment we walked in up until payment and left.
Food was really good! My favorite were the complimentary tomato soup (so warm and yum), and the seared salmon. I'm not a big pasta fan, so not sure how it tasted. But the salmon was really delicious, just couldn't get over it.
Good food and good service usually keeps the customers coming back for more. We had their pastas and pizzas and they were really good, the pasta was cooked to al dente perfection.
The staff was friendly and attentive and we will be back to try the other items on the menu
Fantastic service and great food. Really appreciate their attentiveness. We felt there’s lack of options to choose when it comes to pasta, but everything else was amazing.
Loved this place, great food and drinks. The attentive Italian staff made us feel welcome without being intrusive. There's soft warm lighting, a cosy atmosphere, beautiful décor and perfect background music. The details get a second & and third look too including the stylish and functional use of Murano Glass. It's a small menu but there's still a lot of variety. If you want pizza and garlic bread go over the road to the crowded noisy barns that please most, but come here if you want authentic fresh seasonal Italian food with taste and texture. We aim to return.
Absolutely amazing restaurant my partner and I loved it! The food was so delicious and the staff was super friendly definitely coming back :)
What a nice place, with great wines to match the pasta. Great job Marco and Barbara. Last week we just walked in and this place just became one of my favourite.
If you looking a real Italian location with a real italian pasta, stop to look around and book the table veloce veloce. I’m italian and i can consider my experience Da Guido one of my best experience related to Pasta in my life. Better the Mammà.
Bravi ragazzi
Da Guido is like dining in Italy- fresh, seasonal ingredgients cooked simply and presented elegantly. The service was so professional, warm & friendly and is run by a family business, originally started in Venice in the 70s.. We had amazing seafood pasta and ink squid pasta. The ravioli are also wonderful. Everything was lush and we will definitely go back and try the starters and desserts next time. There’s a lovely atmosphere, great wine, and professional service. Will definitely be going back
Generally good. Beautiful experience. But the preparation time is too long. Price is reasonable. Service is nice. And the surprise comes with the glass. The most beautiful glass i have seen in all restaurants. You can buy one as a memory. Worth visiting.
Pasta is freshly made. Best pasta I have ever had. Service was excellent. Received complimentary pumpkin soup. Highly recommend Da Guido for your Lygon Street experience.
We had our wedding dinner here with a wonderful experience. Every dish is delicious and authentic. The decoration is so beautiful, as well as the food. The home-made dessert is amazing. Also the restaurant gave us a lot of helpful advices in this big day and our guests felt so happy and said this is a fantastic restaurant.
Flavours , texture and scent of the food we had was amazing . The freshness of the buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes was delicious. The gnocchi was soft but not chewy like most places or have that flour texture to it . In general this place is just great .

It’s always hard for an italian to have pasta at the restaurant. I always avoid that, especially having worked in restaurants and knowing the crime that is “precooking”. At Guido’s however, all the pasta (including the gnocchi) are cooked at the moment (well, I guess, otherwise they’re nice anyway). Gnocchi were excellent, they melt in your mouth. The wait staff is nice and the booking thing works.
I didn’t give the fifth star because I think, as a former cook and chef, that maybe the spezzatino should have been thinner. It’s just a pedantic technicality, I just felt that smaller pieces would have gone better with the yummy gnocchi. Another small thing was the waiter: a great guy, very professional, very nice... just a little bit too much.
Guido is a great place, get there and have some proper pasta!
We’re 100% committed to try the new pizza joint they just opened in the city.
Wonderful little Italian restaurant. Service is always spot on, knowledgeable, very warm and attentive. Good wine list, they always bring out an amuse bouche usually a small fresh gazpacho.
Caprese salad and carpaccio are amazing.
The snapper angolotti is my go to pasta dish there!
Great spot for a long lunch
The husband had booked us in for dinner at this very lovely restaurant 8 mins walk away from our CBD apartment. There is apparently one branch in Venice, Italy with the second being here on Lygon street Melbourne.
From arriving the staff were amazing. We had the most beautiful Italian Prosecco - very well priced wine list. The complimentary amuse bouche was pumpkin purée with anchovy butter which was so fresh and flavourful.
Entrees: we ordered a grilled calamari salad and wagyu carpaccio which was an absolute winner with truffle oil, two cheeses and rocket to compliment.
Mains: We both ordered squid ink pasta with a surprisingly delicious calamari ragu - this was the highlight of the evening and served with freshly baked herb salt focaccia. Pasta was hand made and served al dente! Service was delightful from the start to the end. As we were leaving, we walked by a few tables and everyone seemed to be delighted with their meals.
If you are looking for authentic Italian , this is it! We will be back.
It’s a pleasant experience in a winter night. Warm and cosy dining area with an open kitchen. Friendly staffs, great service. Love their water glasses especially. It’s a very detailed little restaurant. Agnolotti was really good, freshly made with nice taste. The little pumpkin soup entree is just as cute as it love, perfect for a winter night to open your appetite.
We had an excellent experience at Da Guido. The service was really outstanding and the food simply delicious. We had an excellent squid ink tagliatelle - house-made pasta - with calamari. Recommended!
The service we received was absolutely fabulous, we were well looked after when visiting for a birthday dinner. Portion sizes was a little on the small side but quality was great. The menu has changed to the one shown on zomato
We had a wonderful dining experience at this hidden gem! We tried a variety of dishes and it was an amazing combination of fresh & high quality ingredients. Our waiter Valerio made our experience one to remember with his attention to detail, friendly and five star service. We can’t wait to be back and will be referring this restaurant to all of our family and friends! Thank you
I took my friend here for lunch for her birthday. We received complimentary pumpkin soup and It was nice but I don’t like pumpkins. We ordered bruschetta for entree and my goodness it was delicious. For main I ordered the tagliatelle lamb and apple pasta and my friend ordered the ravioli with scallops, asparagus and spring onion. I didn’t know how the lamb and apple would go together however it was so delicious! The best pasta I’ve ever had! So fresh and the quality of lamb was fantastic. Apple and lamb went well together! Moscato is really nice here too.
Just a few things to note about this place. When they ask you about water they don’t even offer tap. Also when you pay with card there’s a service fee which was unnecessary as you already pay enough. The man serving us was lovely however he pushed us to get wine, then entree and then was really disappointed we didn’t order dessert but hey, it’s his job. Just calm
down with pushing everything.
Food: 10/10
Service: 10/10
Guido serve an authentic Italian cuisine in an environment that is fitting for a candlelit dinner. The bruschetta was to die for, mains were delicious, and deserts were fresh and satisfying.
Took a friend of mine for a birthday dinner and thought this place was delicious. We ordered a few starters, Bruschetta and Caprese of Buffalo mozzarella tomato and basil. Was a delicious starter. The best dish however was the Ravioli Wagyu! It was delicious! Finished it off with some Tiramisu and it was also really nice. Would happily go back here to try the other pastas on the menu cause they all sound pretty tasty.
Fabulous food and service. 5 stars!!! Will come back with rest of my family. Very authentic Italian food that is genuinely from Italian Chefs!
Ane denger ini resto itali yang disegani but pasta. Beuhhh top bgt emang. Black tagliolininya muantebbh. Servis juga okeh! Balik lagi dah pokoke, begitu ane bisa save money lagi ke melben.
My partner took me here for my birthday. We were craving really good quality Italian food for a while now and this place definitely did deliver! We were greeted with great service, very friendly attentive staff.
Our meal started off with complimentary pumpkin soup with anchovies which was beautiful. Great entree to start off with. Our mains came out at a timely manner at the same time. I had the Salmon Tagliatelle. It was absolutely delicious! Pasta was aldente, sauce was a red, cream base sauce and the salmon was yummy. They served our mains with a complimentary side of bread as well. We would definitely come back. One of the best pasta dishes I've had in Melbourne for a while now.
Review from September 2016
Da Guido Melbourne only joined the ranks of Lygon Street's Little Italy in 2015, but their sister restaurant in Venice has been around since 1977. When I asked the waiter how their Venice locale differs from this one, all he offered was "bigger menu!" 😂 The Carlton traffic just outside doesn't quite lend itself to romantic Venetian alley vibes, but the pasta is freshly homemade every day and that pedigree can't be beat.

Had a fantastic lunch with the family at what I regard as the best Italian restaurant in Melbourne. (Our second visit here) A real stand out in Lygon st Carlton, where you have many establishments to choose from, but most of which will disappoint. Da Guido gets full marks in all areas. It's super clean, with an open kitchen. The decor is modern and tasteful. The food is simply fantastic and the service impeccable. We will definitely be returning. A+++
Service was excellent and restaurant had a really great vibe. I had the ragu pasta, but unfortunately it wasn't to my liking. Pasta was overcooked and meat wasn't anything special. My friend ordered the squid ink pasta and loved it though. I'd try again in a few weeks time.
Oasis in the desert Bright, fresh, clean!! This place is unique and really stands out in Lygon st A must for those who love quality Great selection of wines mostly imported from Italy and the food is amazing. I had tuna tartare as entree and the best steak I ever had in my life as main. They serve a wonderful black angus fillet that really melted in your mouth In the end I order a wonderful tiramisù that was superb I will come back for sure A must to visit when in Melbourne
This restaurant is very special place, because the atmosphere inside the venue is so relaxing and peaceful.
Everything is so clean and because the have an open kitchen you can admire how they prepare your food.
The music in the background is perfect too.
They give a wonderful complimentary appetizer to every body and also the Italian bread focaccia is free I had ate a wonderful caprese salad as entre that was so delicious and as a main an ordered the most incredible dish of pasta that I ever had.
The served me black squid ink tagliolini with calamari, tomato and basil. It was incredible in flavor and taste
Best restaurant in Melbourne strongly recommended.
I was skeptical when my mate told me he'd booked dinner in lygon St Friday night, lygon st is full of shitty restaurants. Anyway, I had the tortellini wagyu and it was the best pasta I have ever had. On top of that the complimentary pumpkin soup taster was delicious. I took the wife there the next night to make sure that Friday night wasn't a fluke. Nup. Awesome again.
Authentic and delicious italian food, served up in a great surrounds. Friendly staff and a good wine list make this place a must to try. Pricier than your usual fair on lygon street, but ingredients fresh and the food tastes excellent.
Was a pleasure to discover a real Italian restaurant in Melbourne, after few days with no hope, me and my friends discovered a treasure. Incomparable menu and wine list at a right price in a clean place.
As a Italian customer I will recommend tagliatelle rabbit and tagliolini seafood with shiraz or prosecco wine.
To finish in a wonderful way i tried their tiramisu version with espresso on top !!!!
Simple and special !!
Really genuine and true Italian kitchen amazing experience with tagliolini, gnocchetti home made. My wife tried the tuna fillet and I the best Angus fillet I've eaten in years....
Can't wait to go back.

Locale accogliente, personale preparato e competente, cucina italiana, i piatti ben confezionati è molto buoni, una esperienza positivissima.
We had 4 lovely meals and great service. The waitstaff and even the chef were very welcoming. The pasta is housemate and the menu is authentic. Beautiful.
Great service and authentic Italian food. Staff very accomodating and met the needs of one of our group who needed special pans for cooking. Nothing was too much trouble. Had the gnocchi - great! Next time I'll try the lunch special for $19 or $24. Great decor and quiet lovely place for lunch. Will be back
I really enjoyed eating here! Honestly their steak starter is literally one of the best steaks I have ever tasted! Their pasta waa great as well. Enjoyed it very much and would definitely visit again when in Melbourne!
So impressive - from the moment we stepped in - greeted by gracious authentic Italian staff - I am highly recommending this restaurant - 7 people - 7 wonderful meals ... All super fresh - fresh - fresh! One diner commented 'I could eat this everyday for the rest of life'. The restaurant has aligned itself with genuine Italian style meals and staffed their kitchen with Italian trained staff. The refurbishment of the building means the fresh white painted bricks and light oak details create a bright but peaceful ambience! Try it - you will like it!
Very very good pasta. If you were after an authentic Italian pasta meal, this would be one of the best choices you can make. Excellent service, beautiful tableware (especially the hand blown glasses) and exquisite pasta. The salmon we shared was amazing as well. Tipo00 is really good, but in my opinion, Da Guido is even better.
Very good value for lunch. Had the lunch special and you have the choice of a pasta main, a green salad, small appetiser and foccacia for $24. Pasta was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Service was friendly, although there was a little bit of a wait for our mains.
Went to this restaurant two days in a row. Staff were very friendly, nice ambiance and outstanding food. Definitely recommended! This restaurant is underrated because in my opinion, they're pasta is one of the best in Melbourne!👍🏼 Not to mention they gave us a complimentary appetiser.
Fantastic style to the whole Restaurant look, beautiful food, great service and extremely friendly staff! I would eat at this restaurant again and again... Da Guido La Pasta, Grazie! :)
For great Italian pastas, desserts and service that will make you think you are in Italy, Da Guido is the place to visit. Feel spoilt with a complimentary appetiser that can change each time you come in to eat. Freshly cooked pasta cooked to perfection is the name of the game here. I'd recommend the simple spaghetti with tomato and basil, and the Black Tagliolini with pumpkin puree, shrimps, tomato and basil. For a sweet ending, you can't go past their classic Tiramisu with a twist, DIY-style. Bellissimo!
Friendly and fast service! Delicious italian food and helpfull staff.
Awesome home made pasta and tiramisù.
Definetly need to come back here!!!
Enjoyed the atmosphere, the menu was of a great quality but not particularly well delivered. The service was above average but just shy of superb.
We had a perfect experience here. Can't wait to come back. The service was very friendly and helpful by a team that are polished and take a lot of pride in their restaurant. Complimentary tasters were delicious, and at a restaurant at this modest price point is very welcome and very generous. The restaurant is spotless, I mean there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. The pasta's were made fresh in-house and were perfect. Very very impressive and reasonable prices.
Absolutely fantastic this is a true Italian restaurant with the spotless open kitchen you can see the chef getting ready your your fresh pasta and seafood
Had the seafood pasta. Great home made pasta with fresh seafood and herbs.
Lovely simple and light Italian.
With a clean quiet interior, extremely friendly staff Marco in particular.
I'll be coming back many more times and couldn't encourage everyone else more so.
Just returned from lunch here and I'm so impressed I have to write about it.
I live nearby and stumbled across the $19 lunch special so wandered in.
Initially I was stuck by the calm of the restaurant, as most places along Lygon are quite vocal hawkers. Here, it's all about quiet attention to detail in an almost provincial setting. Glasses were individually hand blown in Italy, and decor was beautiful without being overwhelming. Plates and cutlery were also of an obvious high standard.
Fresh homemade focaccia came out immediately, followed by a gorgeous pumpkin cream with anchovies. I generally don't enjoy anchovies but this combination was exquisite. Salad followed - quality is on par with my favourite fine dining haunt Epocha. Every leaf was fresh, dressing subtle, and a generous dash of fresh blueberries and assortment of heirloom tomatoes a pleasant surprise.
I opted for a simple tomato and basil pasta - and wasn't disappointed. When travelling Europe one will inevitably encounter that hidden little gem with food so astounding you'll still reminisce 10 years later. Let's just say that this place saves you the plane ticket. It's by far the best pasta I've tried in Australia, and I have a fairly significant focus on exploring the best of Melbourne's upper end restaurants.
The waiter (as it turned out, he is the owner, who started the restaurant 6 weeks ago after running one in Venice for years) was genuine and friendly but subtle.
I'm so grateful to have had this culinary delight - there is no question I'll be a regular from now on.
A very delightful dinner experience in the Lygon street. The host was warm and customer service was solid.
We had excellent dishes (ask for their special scotch fillet carpaccio). Our three different types pasta was delicious (blue cheese gnocchi, beef ragu, and salmon pasta) and they made them in front of you (open kitchen).
We highly recommend this place and will go back.
Ambience: 9/10
Food: 8/10
Service: 10/10
Italian vibes for ambience. Very nice place for a date. Service was great and food was promptly. Very good portion of pasta. Ordered 4 pasta but our favourite was the squid ink pasta and the salmon pasta. The rest was still alright. The squid ink pasta really did surpassed my expectations. You can taste the sweetness of the seafood! We also ordered the cured meats before our meal. Portion was good for 4pax. Comes with rockets, breadsticks, dried fruits, and cheeses help balance out the salt, while sour pickles help cut through all that fat. Would come here again for the squid ink pasta! Recommended pasta choice
I don't live in Melbourne but I'd move just for this restaurant. They give you complimentary bread which I'm pretty sure is house made. Need I say more? The waiters and waitresses are lovely and charming. Fillipo was a gem to my mum and I. The menu is diverse and traditional. Love love love. Definitely will be my first stop next time I go back to Melbourne
Easy to order as menu options are few. No specials of the day though which was a little disappointing.. unable to accommodate us inside which was a shame even though we had a booking.. Food was standard for Lygon street. Good attentive service.
The food was superb! Perfectly sized portions, flavourful, good menu and wine selection. Our waiter Valerio was excellent! He is very energetic and knowledgeable.
The carbonara was delicious, however the Wagyu ravioli that is very frequently mentioned in the reviews was not that great. The meat inside was very dry. The wine recommendation was a great pairing for the pasta. Staff were average, not super well trained. The cap rede salad was tasty but definitely not worth $24. We also asked for water on arrival (still not sparkling) and little did we know we were charged $7.50 for water. Make sure you ask for tap water if you don’t want to pay for table water. Total bill was $121 for two people.
They source excellent ingredients and the pasta dishes are always fresh. The staff are really friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. The menu is simple, but everything on it is always a high standard.
Really enjoyed this Italian dining experience. Excellent table service, including accurate info about the dishes on the menu. Menu has distinctive dishes rather than being limited to the usual range of meals at Italian restaurants. The food was delicious. Good wine list. And a real plus is that there is good spacing between tables so there's no sense of being crowded.
