I don't usually write reviews and feedbacks but this place is worth the effort to. Went there last night for the 3rd time, and it was the only time I was in a long queue but their ice creams are worth queueing for. Hands down the best ice cream in Melbourne. Customer service was good, not the best but understandable considering they're crazy busy! Love. Love. Love.

Popped in after an average dinner on lygon street and the ice cream was absolutely delightful � � I had the salted Carmel which was sweet but beautiful. I was also able to try the pistachio, chocolate and hazelnut from other group members which was still delightful. I have to say has been the best ice cream yet i have tried in Melbourne. Thanks you!
Fresh, natural, smooth and delicious gelato worth being in queue for half an hour. Loved pistachio and mascarpone with raspberry jam (not too sweet n cheesy as it sounds, yumm), many more to try. I'll definitely revisit.

Delicious ice cream and lovely service - I asked lots of questions about the flavours at a very busy time of day, and was offered not just answers but samples. The girls looked like they enjoyed their work, and it made for a pleasant atmosphere in the shop. The strawberry Gelato was particularly delicious.

The wait in the 20 minute queue was definitely worth the frozen treats at Pidapipo.
This icecream shop is a Melbourne favourite in the busy night. Expect a 20minute to 1hr wait, it’s totally normal.
They sell a variety of flavours, from your traditional vanilla or chocolate icecream whcih they do so well, to their exotic and fun flavours. They also release some limited flavours which are always great to try.
This time I decided to be adventurous and try the banana milk. Very interesting but I’m sorry, banana milk or banana doesn’t belong in icecream. Definitely did enjoy it more than an average banana with their sweet form though!
The nutella swirl was to die for, and I highly recommend it, given it is one of the popular kids on the street. Coffee icecream was just as yummy. Lemon sorbet was very interesting and surprisingly addicting to eat to cut through the heavy icecream flavours of nutella.
Would love to come back and try their other fun flavours!

I’ve never had the patience to join the queue for this place but there was only a couple waiting (being a cold and miserable Melbourne night), so we lined up. We had a salted caramel cone and the vanilla bean honeycomb cone. Both were amazing. The texture was the closest to anything from Italy and the flavour was creamy and rich. I can definitely see why people are always lining up. Would definitely return!

Best gelato in Melbourne 🍦 Their gelatos are just heaven, savoured many flavours over the years 💯 I believe the ice cream with the Nutella in the middle is called ‘Nutella swirl’. Would frequently visit this outlet after dinner on Lygon St but I’ve since migrated to the outlet on Flinders Ln as it is more convenience being in the CBD.
There is the best gelato of pistachio flavor!!!! Once I had a pistachio, I always order 2 scoops, the flavor and new flavor. There isn’t have much space to sit down. But definitely one of the best place to grab sweet in chapel street!
I've eaten a lot ice creams, even the master chef messina ice cream. But the ice cream texture and quality of Pidapipo is outstanding.
I remember coming here a few years back and to this day the only thing that’s changed is the increased of people coming here and new flavours.
Went here to my cousin to have some delicious ice cream after dinner. We got the hazelnut and strawberry & cream.
The flavours were so intense and it DID NOT disappoint, we ordered one scoop each and I forgot how much a scoop is at this joint. Honestly worth the $4.80 because in the end I was craving for more.

My favourite gelato place in Melbourne! The gelato is soooo creamy but is not overly sweet. I love that you are able to taste the actual ingredients of the gelato instead of artificial tastes! Both the milk and non milk varieties are incredible but the pistachio is a must try!
The place is well decorated with seats inside and outside. There is a variety of flavours to choose from with vegan sorbet options and additional toppings such as whipped cream and hot Nutella. If you come here, you get more bang for your buck if you get more than one scoop but if not, they completely fill up the cup.
I got peanut butter and bacio with hot Nutella, bacio has to be one of the best gelatos I've ever tried in my life.
Best gelato in Melbourne, always so delicious and the texture is to die for. I'm not a huge mint fan but I loved the white choc and mint flavour as well as pistachio!

Converted!! For a while, I thought this place was a little overrated because I had tried it a couple times and thought it was great, but not as great as the reviews say. However, have to say I absolutely love the pear flavour!! Will be back again to try more fruity flavours :)
I’ve been to Pidapipo quite a few times now, and so far none of the visits have left me disappointed. All the flavours at Pidapipo look so appealing, and they’ve changed around their non-dairy flavours in the few times I’ve been. This time I tried the Salted Caramel gelato, whereas my friend opted for Blood Orange. Salted Caramel was amazing! It wasn’t overly sweet, and the salty taste made it very addicting to eat. Overall a great dessert to have after our meal.
The staff there have been very friendly and helpful every time I’ve been, allowing us to sample different flavours until we find the right one. The scoops are also very generous, which makes the price seem reasonable.
It’s quite a popular place, so there’s often a queue, but it’s definitely worth the wait!

This is non arguably one of the best ice cream parlour that Melbourne has to offer. Their Ice creams are so so creamy and delicious. Try their pistachio ice cream and you will fall in love with it. I also liked their Nutella swirl as I am in general a big fan of chocolate ice creams.

Really busy even late on a Monday night. Luckily at 10pm the line dwindled down so we didn’t have to wait. I had the hazelnut gelato - loved it, so soft and creamy. The portion size was decent as well, a single was enough. Only downside of this place to me is the potential wait time. Also I’m a visual person so it’s a shame the gelato is not on display.
The ice creams are amazing. I come here everytime my friend and I come for dinner at Lygon street. The only thing that bothers me is the wait to get the gellato. Can't help it though. If the dessert store is popular the crowd is bound to be there.

BUT, they charged me $7.80 instead of $6.80 for 2 scoops of ice-cream (just saw it on my account). I'm guessing the staff made a mistake.I wont try to claim back as it was just a dollar and i dont have a receipt (default: they dont provide receipt unless you ask for it- its good; save paper and shit i guess).
Anyway my point is; always get a receipt and always confirm that you have been charged correct. I was once charged $134 for $4.50 coffee; took 3 painful months to get my money back (nab card transaction protection). I should have learned my lesson. lol....
It is super important to me that no on extorts me while im trying to be more environment friendly, So will get my receipt every single time from now :)
I usually go to the Pidapippo in Chapel street but thought it would be nice to go here as I have enjoyed previous experiences.
I ordered the chocolate ice cream and passionfruit in a cone. The ice-cream was creamy and smooth and it tasted delicious. Not too impressed with customer service as the girl who served us was a little rude.
Some people love Piccolina, some love Pidapipo. I love both for different reasons. While the former is toned back and classic, Pidapipo seems as wholesome but more unconventional. I love all the vegan flavours I've ever tried - especially a banana variety I had once upon a time. Would love to see even more non-dairy in the future.

So for a long time I’ve been wanting to try out Pidapipo’s ice cream but have never been bothered to wait in the crazy line that is always down the street despite the weather.
On a cold June night, the line wasn’t that long so we finally decided it was time and god damn.. I’ll be waiting in that damn line if it’s a km long.
Who would have thought ice cream could be so flipping amazing? So creamy and soft and delicious.
The first time I went I had the white mint and choc and was sad that it was no longer on the menu when I visited again last week. I chose the salted caramel with orange blossom and it was out of this world but I’m a mint gal at heart and hoping its there on my next visit
Went there and ordered a apple flavour ice cream with one scoop. The taste good with reasonably priced, services by staffs were friendly and professionals. The location is good which is quite near to city. Will be back or going to other branches to try others next time!
This is my favourite gelato in Melbourne so far.. we have tasted plenty of flavor so far & not disappointed us.. they had plenty of very unique flavours such as pina colada, watermelon, pear, persimmon, salted caramel etc.. pidapipo always change the menu depending on the season & we always get a chance to try different flavor of gelato.. the only downside was the queues.. if you come here during its peak times just be ready to wait if you want some awesome gelato.. but the queue clear very fast..
One of the best gelato spots in Melbourne. You can literally see them make the gelato with real ingredients! Just like any good gelatos, you can try any flavors here before committing.

I chose a new flavour I haven’t seen before which was Ricotta Cinnamon Honey, this was amazing.
The 2nd flavour I chose was Nutella Swirl which tasted like vanilla w a hint of Nutella bits.

Melbourne’s favourite gelato spot! There is always a que just about any night of the week! Love how they always come up with new flavours and they are very creative. My go to has got to be the fior di latte! We also tried their persimmon flavour and it was very light and fresh. Love how they use good quality ingredients to make their gelato, it keeps it fresh. It is just one of the flavours that never fails. Definitely a must try in Melbourne

This is my favourite gelato place I come to all the time, at least twice a month. Love their bacio and the pistachio gelato, they are yummy! Sometimes they offer something like marcapone with blueberry jam or raspberry swirl.. they are great too!

There’s a reason this place has a constant line out the door. The hand made gelato here are smooth, and comes with fresh ingredients that you can taste in each bite. The servers are also super friendly and would offer you tastings to find the right flavors for you. Prices are above average but you get what you pay for. A great stop after dinner to sate the sweet toothed.

Pidapipo is famous as one of Melbourne’s MUSTS and for good reason! Their gelato is rich and creamy without leaving you sick. The flavours are rich and amazing and you definitely get a bang for your buck! I haven’t tried the nutella tap yet but it’s definitely worth a try if you like super chocolatey things! The sorbets are fantastic as well so don’t miss out on them!!

Walked past one hot day and decided to try this place and I’m glad we did. So many choices and such great value especially the take away tubs. Refreshing fruity flavours and if cream based is your choice, not too heavy or sickeningly sweet either.

If you have seen long queues on a particular location on lygon street, you know its people queued up for pidapipo. People love this place, I liked their hazelnut flavour in particular, followed by watermelon sorbet.
I thank my stars we didn’t have much of a wait before getting our gelato. After we exited, the line had stretched itself all the way to the next block! Talk about dedication to ice cream.
Anyway, we tried some of their off-menu flavors like vanilla honeycomb and blueberry mascarpone. Honeycomb was a hit, mascarpone had this strange butter aftertaste. Still very good gelato, I’d love to try their other flavors in the future.
One of my favourite places for pistachio ice cream, not too sweet. Love the sweet and saltyness of this creamy I've cream. Beautiful smooth and soft consistency, always buy a 500gm tub for home.
Only thing annoying is the usual long line they have, going to see if the lines will be long during the colder days so I can get my fix.
Try with my friends many times! So tasty. I like the milk based and my friend like the free dairy especially the peach favor. All favors in the shop taste so good!!!

Having just returned from Italy - the home of gelato, this place was going to be out to the test. And it was. And I wasn’t disappointed. Great range of flavours as well as other delicious treats to be tried. Staff are lovely and very helpful letting you test a few flavours.

This is apparently a place with a huge vibe and it showed immediately when it took 45 minutes for us to get an ice cream in the queue at 4pm. The problem was that they were clearly understaffed upfront and they could easily staff it alittle more. However, the staff present would never rush us to get our stuff and made us feel like home with testings till we were satisfied.
I got 2 scoops with Nutella swirl and strawberry rose cream. The Nutella swirl was one hell of a treat with a brilliantly flavored ice cream with a hole of Nutella made in the middle of it. The absolute best I've tried. Rose strawberry wasn't the best with a slightly medicinal taste. My friends weren't quite satisfied with their ice creams too. So my go to would be tje nutella swirl, and probably some non dairy base flavors next time. Highly recommended!
Just love them. The chocolate is a must to try. No regret. Silky smooth, not icy. Usually during daytime there will no queue. Also don’t forget to try the fruit gelato. They are just so yummmyyyyyyy :)

Worth with the price and the waiting time. One of the best ice cream i tried in Melbourne. Will bring all my families to try their ice cream one day. And its really cheap! Moreover, the place is pretty instagramable.
Came here March 2018 with two friends for some gelato! We got a 1L bucket between the three of us 🙈🍧 and while it looks neopolitan, it was actually a delicious mix of flavours. The gelato was perfect and definitely keen to revisit. Somehow we managed to polish off the lot 😋
I really love this cute little ice cream venue. I am a huge fan of gelato and pidapipo delivers the goods. I got mascarpone with blueberry jam and it was amazing. This is definitely my go-to gelateria and they offer a huge selection of gelato and sorbet. A must try!

Finally some good gelato that is not overly sweet! Love all the flavours we tried: Fior di latte (milk), Pistachio, Blood Plum and Mojito. They taste of quality ingredients and we even saw staff preparing the fresh plums while waiting for our turn. There’s always a line outside the door so be prepared. Can’t wait to be back and try other flavours!
Always consistent in taste and quality. Service is great too! Don't be deterred by the line, it moves quickly. Sorbets are more my thing (blood plum is delicious!) but my husbands favourite's include fior di latte and the salted caramel. If you're unsure about the flavour, staff are more than happy for you to have a taste test.

This place is an example of the kind of hipster places that are popular nowadays, with loud music playing and long queues some nights. I was skeptical about the quality of these sorta places at first and hate queuing, but after I went along with some friends once I have to say... it's pretty good.
They have a lot of flavours but you can't see what they look like because they're all in closed containers. Staff seem pretty nice about letting you try them though. I've really only tried one flavour, the Nutella, which is really nice because of the extra drizzle of hot Nutella that comes complimentary with that flavour (I believe you have to pay $1 extra if you want it with any other flavour). That hot Nutella really hits the spot and makes the ice cream really delicious. It being hot is important too since other places that add chocolate on top just makes you end up with a solidified mass of chocolate in your ice cream.
So yea I guess not all hipster places are all hype. This one is pretty good. But I'd still recommend going at non peak hours (during the day is probably fine, not later at night).

However, the gelato is delicious, creamy and not over the top in sweetness : some of the best in Melbourne. I love the dark chocolate flavour, which is what I usually get plus one of their weekly specials.
I have just found my favourite ice cream place in Melbourne! I was initially reluctant to believe the hype, and generally dislike places with long queues. Yet I found myself in one whilst killing time pre-dinner and also because my curiosity got the better of me. Although the queue was long, it moved relatively quickly, and we were greeted by friendly staff who were very happy to let us try various flavours and make suggestions. I ended up with a 3 scoop waffle of fior di latte, cookies and cream, honeycomb and vanilla bean. The fior di latte was simply divine, so smooth and subtle, one of the best ice cream flavours I can remember having. The cookies and cream was also very good, and the honeycomb was not bad, although a little sweet compared to the other flavours. I also tried my friends' salted caramel (excellent and my second fav from Pidapipo), pistacchio (delicious), blood orange and stawberry (all great). Will definitely be back.

Stopped by pidapipo for some ice cream on a hot summer day and despite being full from brunch, I could not hold back on their pistachio flavoured ice-cream. It was easily the best ice cream i’ve ever had and i’ll definitely be back to try more flavours!

Went here one night for desserts with my friends. The line can get ridiculously long but the wait wasn't too bad. I ordered the Pistachio and the Fresh Mint & Choc. It might have been because they were running out of the pistachio ice cream but the lady gave us quiet a small scoop- at the time I didn't say anything but next time I would. Other than that, the flavours were delicious and if I'm in the area I would definitely go back to try other flavours.
To say this is one of Melbourne’s best gelato is not an understatement. It was a cold chilly Monday night and there was a line forming out of the door. I didn’t know which flavour was good so I went with a random one that I’ve never tried before - fior di latte. It turned out to be a really good choice - so creamy and smooth. The staff were really generous in giving huge scoops of ice cream which is a plus point.

Passionfruit + avocado and lime was a wonderful combination and super creamy consistency for nondairy ice cream. The lemon, vanilla and honeycomb was also absolutely scrumptious and highly recommend. 👌👌
I need the mascarpone and jam flavour back!!! It’s my absolute favourite in ice cream flavours now however they don’t always have it. I do enjoy the salted caramel as well.
This place is one of the best ice cream parlor in Melbourne. Really love their Strawberry Rose Water flavour, although it’s rarely on the menu. I believe it’s one of their limited edition flavour, but definitely should get it when it’s on the menu. Their regular flavour like pistachio and bacio are also fantastic. No wonder there’s alway a long line in front of their outlet in Carlton. One day in winter time I even saw a bunch of grandpa and grandmas queuing at this place at around 11PM 😄. The staff are always friendly and very patient. There are some small numbers of seats inside and outside, but when it’s packed you just have to enjoy the ice cream standing up or take them somewhere else like a park.
Always have people queuing up when I go there... Definitely one of the best gelato shop in town! Pistachio and raspberry mascarpone are my favorites, plus nutella on top is mind blowing! Will come back to try out their non-diary next time.

Went here as a friend has been talking about it a lot & saying it was so good there is always a line - rain, hail or shine. She was correct but the ladies who working that night were doing an awesome job & the line moved pretty fast. They had a great variety of flavours & was pretty reasonable in price as well. 3 scoops for $7.50 I’ll take that. I got salted caramel, mint & white choc chip & blood orange. My friend got raspberry swirl, honeycomb & banana milk. My favourite out of the 3 I had was the mint one, it was so refreshing & the choc chip pieces just made it that tiny bit better. The salted caramel tasted pretty normal &unfortunately I wasn’t impress by the blood orange as that is my favourite flavour of all time. My friend on the other hand loved his. The honey comb was amazing apparently.

One of my favourite gelato! Love their raspberry swirl and pistachio. The raspberry swirl is just perfectly balanced between the acidity and the sweetness, fruity and milky-creamy in your mouth. Very busy and long line up during the weekend but it’s worth to wait.

Alright, big call but this was hands down the BEST gelato we've ever had. Not only was the texture smooth and creamy, but the flavours were well developed and so, soo delicious. Our favourite flavours in particular were the pistachio and nutella.

The best gelato I have had in Melbourne! I have been getting gelato from Pidapipo since thier test lab. When they closed down, i was so upset. But now they have the permanent store on Lygon Street, it's one of the best things in life! Happy to know they are opening more stores!

The best gelato in Melbourne. I particularly love their fruity vegan flavours which are made with fresh ingredients i.e. real passionfruit and real lime. You can really taste the difference - so delicious and refreshing. Almost like eating the actual fruit itself

My wife and I have been to Pidapipo on several occasions as it is probably the best place in Melbourne for quality gelato.
We have tried a few of the flavours and believe Salted Caramel is their best option.
The lines are always a factor but the one time we ditched this place for a quicker option we regretted it badly. Definitely worth a visit after a nice Lygon Street dinner.
Came here on a Friday night. The wait was quite long (20-30 minutes). But you honestly forget once you have the ice cream. I got the Nutella swirl, it is the best ice cream I’ve ever had! Would definitely recommend this place!
The Gelato served at Pidapipo is ridiculously yumm! There is a wide range of flours to choose. My Favourites are Hazelnut topped with HoneyComb and Straciatella.. There is always a long wait but definitely worth the wait..
I find the flavours here really well thought out with many options catering to different tastes. Worth the wait. Seems like a very genuine and authentic place. Fig and ricotta was subtle but delectable.
$4.50 for a heaping scoop of beautiful quality gelato. Limited selection of flavours but each is a hit in its own right, and hot Nutella drizzled on top is a necessary $1 extra. Faultless.

This place always has a long queue especially in the evening. It has a lot menu. I tried the salty caramel but it was too sweet for me. Tried my friends’ lemon and blood orange sorbet, which were better than my choice lol. I kinda like Mesi*a better tho.
But definitely one of the good place to have gelato in Melbourne.
I come here generally once per week, because I really like gelato but I need to keep a healthy diet, I love all flavours, but my top 3 flavours are Dark Chocolate, hazelnut and pistachio.

I felt that pidapipo tastes a lot better years back than the present days, a lot of my friends said so as well. But I am not sure how accurate this is, since it is mainly based on tongue preference.

Absolutely love this place! I’ve always wanted to try this place but there’s always always a long line outside. They opened a new store near flinders st and not many people there, so I finally got the chance to try it! Pistachio flavour is stunning! Salted caramel is beautiful. Went there again a few days ago. Tried their fior di latte flavour and figs and ricotta. Love both flavours!
Hands down the best gelato I’ve ever had in Melbourne. Limited selection but I bet you can’t go wrong with any one. Tried the pistachio and salted caramel. Thought it would be too heavy but it wasn’t at all. It was just creamy enough, and the two scoops were huge. Staff was charismatic too.
This place is one of my favourite ice cream places on earth. The Nutella one is a must , the ice cream is silky smooth , rich with flavour and drowned in real Nutella afterwards as a finishing touch
It definitely is delicious ice cream but not worth 4.9. Nutella is too sweet and coconut is not thick and rich enough. It was overrated. But comparing to normal ones, it really has a better taste.

Pidapipó has to be one of the best gelaterias I’ve ever visited. Their flavours are so delicious, very creamy and reasonably priced too. Their hazelnut is a stand-out winner, especially with hot Nutella on top! Salted caramel and coconut were just as nice.
I highly suggest not coming here on weekends in order to avoid the long queues. Despite the wait, visiting here is a must if you’re craving some gelato, as they’re flavourful, rich, thick and velvety. I will definitely be back to try their other flavours.
Their ice cream is sooo creamy and silky. We ordered the coconut and pistachio flavor - I’m absolutely love the coconut flavour!! I can feel the real coconut in my mouth. Very delicious. I hope they will have more new flavour soon!

Delicious ice cream but it’s rating is higher than expected. Tried the salted caramel, coconut and bacio ice cream and whilst great it didn’t hit the 5/5 Messina for me, still a great option however and the best on Lygon st
Absolutely a delight trying the gelato of original sin; I mean Italian gelato! =) The staff were busy (with gelato this good you'd be busy too!) Didn't go for tasters but went for those recommended by you guys! I went for the salted caramel and pistachio! You guys sure did give great recommendations! I had a great time savouring the great ice-cream and will be back tomorrow! I'll see if I can do a 5* again!

The gelato is now my new favourite, and I am truly a picky gelato eater. It is smooth, creamy, and velvety in texture. It also doesn't feel heavy in the stomach (and actually made me consider buying another scoop). I had the mascarpone and raspberry jam flavour and highly recommend it. The mascarpone gelato base isn't too sweet, which is nice, but then the raspberry jam brings that sugar punch (but isn't too overwhelming) so both really work well together.
My other two friends wolfed their gelatos down and said it was divine! The staff really aren't the friendliest, but when you're trying to serve so many customers on a hot, busy night, I understand that it is a bit hard to chit-chat; they are just getting their work done. But they are kind enough to let you taste a flavour before you get one.
I'm sure I will be back here in the near future!
Phenomenal gelato, sensationally creamy with rich flavour. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any flavour. Some of my favourites are mascarpone & raspberry, nutella swirl, and bacio/hazelnut. As with most good things expect to wait in line to get your gelato fix, although the time passes quickly while you are toe tapping to their house music mix.
Order: Salted caramel and pistachio on cone. By far the best ice cream I’ve tasted so far. The flavours was incredibly clear and rich. The taste from the very first bite determines the experience and the satisfaction stayed until the very end. Highly recommend!

This place serves one of the best milk based ice cream all the flavours they have an unique taste and especially the nutella twirl is one my favourite.

Pistacchio~ 1 scoop in a cup. Pretty shock with the portion. $4.5 really worth a scoop. The pistacchio is really nice, really pistacchio-ey. Before i chose the pistacchio, i try the banoffe~ barely taste the banana or the coffee, also the rose and white choc chip~ its really sweet~ :)

This was wicked. $6.5 for 2 scoops made it not too expensive. Grabbed the nutella and watermelon. Free nutella shots. I was a bit hesitant about the watermelon since others have said it was too sweet. Nonetheless, it was beautiful, tastes just like a real watermelon and had the right amount of sweetness. And yes, expect a line, even on a weekday.
Handily located in the hubbub at the northern end of the Lygon St strip. We came here rather than have dessert at our restaurant for the night. We wanted a wander and fancied ice cream. Had the marscapone and raspberry together with banoffee. This is superb ice cream. The former flavour was spectacular. Could not fault it. There was a small line when we arrived here but it moved very swiftly. The servers here really know what they’re doing. Great place. Touches on best practice on what we saw.
Excellent gelati! Great flavors. Excellent consistency. My favorite in Melbourne so far. I don't think they have it any more but for a while they had a special Parmesan and figs gelato that was absurdly good. Their salted caramel is delicious but never sickly sweet. Their Fior di latte is excellent (usually a good measure that the gelato is good. Pistachio is also great for that). Highly recommended. Worth the wait of the very long queue you'll most like have to get through.

Love the vibe, love the ice cream. Pidapipo embodied what Melbourne is all about, quirky, different and delicious. We went to get gelato on a rainy day so no queue! As soon as I entered the shop, I felt to refreshed with the decorations and minimal choices. I always hate the feeling of too many choices in ice cream shop. You could get gelato or dairy free ice cream. When I was there, they were making watermelon dairy free will real fruit. Knowing that these are homemade and from real fruit won me over. Salted caramel was their signature dish and it was great. The ice cream was creamy not not liquidy, didn’t melt to quick. The taste was neither too sweet or too salty, just right. Highly recommended for ice scream enthusiasts!

After hearing and reading all the hype about this place I reluctantly queued for 20 minutes to see what all the fuss was about. Pidapipo does not disappoint . This is hands down the best gelato in Melbourne and possibly Australia. I’ve tried many gelato places in Sydney and Melbourne and also in Italy but this is one of the best. Try the salted caramel choc if you want something sweet and crunchy. I also had the hazelnut which was delicious. Strawberry and rose was also yummy for a more lighter subtle flavour. Worth the wait.

When it first opened, the lines would be down the street. They have subsided a little now, but don’t worry it moves quickly. Just like its sister located in Windsor, they produce amazing, creamy, traditional gelato. And they have Nutella on tap! Check them out. I recommend the hazelnut and the Nutella swirl. Yum!

I would rate 6 stars if possible. This is by far the best ice cream I've ever had (anywhere in the world). I'm so glad they are on Uber eats now because the line is huge and constant. I make it a point to take interstate/ internationals friends here whilst in Melbourne. Nutella fountain!!!

The watermelon is refreshing but super sweet at the same time. It tastes exactly like fresh watermelon juice but added too much sugar. But definitely try it if you’re a sweet tooth!

Delicious gelato - the watermelon and passionfruit sorbets taste like the actual fruit itself just frozen. So delicious especially on a hot day. The passionfuit gelato is tart and fragrant. The watermelon gelato actually quenches your thirst.

Pidapipo - a cosy little gelato bar that will pack a smile on your face when you leave. The flavour selection is great, and makes for a perfect treat whatever time of the day it is. I love the more fruity flavours; very refreshing and doesn't taste artificial at all. The staff move quickly and constantly provide great service.

Ratio Decidendi: It’s unsurprising why Pidapipo is considered by many to serve the best gelato in Melbourne. I personally prefer Gelateria Primavera for flavour but as far as quality and texture go, you’d be splitting hairs trying to separate the two. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear this is the real deal. Gelato is secured away in covered tins rather than heaped in artificial mounds and the confidence to offer fior di latte says far more about the quality of the ingredients than anything this writer could ever say would.
I'd been dying to try out a good ice-cream place in Melbourne so after seeing so many great reviews for Pidapipo I thought I'd check it out for myself.
I was not let down! For a decent price of $6.50, my partner and I shared a cup of two scoops of ice-cream - chocolate and Nutella swirl. My partner loved the chocolate (because that's his favourite flavour ever) but I thought the Nutella swirl was much yummier. Regardless of our preferences, we both agreed that this was the best ice-cream we've had yet! It was insanely creamy and silky smooth. Man, I wish I had some right now..
The place itself is a small store on a street full of Italian restaurants, but we took our ice-cream outside and enjoyed all 5 minutes it took to devour it!
Upon entering the store, I thought it would be cash-only and was disappointed, but they do take cards too! Yay. That's always a plus for me as I hate carrying cash.

I was so looking forward to having another ice cream when I was in Melbourne for a night after I tried their delicious salted caramel one last year. I couldn’t forget the taste of it and it was the first thing I went for when I arrived. Well.. I am not sure if I had the salted caramel one again, I would have still love it or not but went with pistachio and chocolate one this time.. it was crowded and the staff member was slightly annoyed with my trials so I couldn’t try it out much.. it is still a nice ice cream, but lacks of density which had last year. Texture felt much more thin. Not overly sweet which is great but there was no oomph element to taste.

Not going along with their political agenda, an oxymoron in my view, more traditional marriage/hetero relationship would mean more children, which means more patrons to lick those yummy gelato .... however political agenda aside, they do make one of the best if not the best Gelato in Melbourne.
Be prepared to queue at anytime of the day, if you don't want to queue then best to go late afternoons.

Lovely! Loved the pistachio ice cream here. The hype is on the Nutella but I felt for the $1, it wasn’t worth. The ice cream is amazing though. Be ready to queue (not for Long) if you intend to visit after 10pm! (Prime time for ice cream! 😛)

Considered as a new player in the Gelato business, Pidapipó firstly opened in Carlton, Melbourne (2014).
Owned by Lisa Valmorbida who studied in Italy from the world's best Gelato university in the world, Carpigiani gelato university.
Melbournians are lucky enough to taste the aunthentic Italian gelato recipe brought by Lisa.
It's a small gelato shop but always full of people queuing outside, they have few outdoor tables for those who want to hang out close to ice cream shop.
Unlike other Gelato shops, Pidapipó stores their ice cream in the open space rather than using the glass display.
They don't put any labels on each stainless steel ice cream container, thus the customer staffs are all well trained.
They were also nice, friendly and speedy in service customers;
Though it's always a long queue, you don't need to wait long time to enjoy the gelato
We ordered 1 scoop of Pistachio for $4.50.
The taste was absolutely fantastic.
The pistachio gelato had a smooth texture, so you couldn't taste the texture of pistachio unlike the coconut.
It was creamy, not too sweet and had rich taste.
The portion served for a one scoop was very generous;While others similar gelato shop in this area offers (extra small - 1 scoop for $5.00), pidapipo offers $4.50 for 1 scoop with more generous portion and competitive taste.
I reckon this gelato shop would be our first recommended one in this area.
Overall, we had a great time having gelato here and the best pistachio Gelato in the town so far :)

After seeing high rating of this ice cream, yesterday i went to Carlton shop on my sunny day off. I ordered Nutella swirl & mango, they big scoops of ice cream, the textured was so smooth and the mango flavour i can really taste the real mango, so yummy.. I’ll be back to try other flavour.
Pidapipo. Kindly bring back the raspberry meringue white chocolate flavour. It clearly defines to me the meaning of life. LOVE LOVE LOVE. This is my favourite gelato place in Melbourne. It was well worth any wait there is. From creamy flavours to the fruity flavours - you will not be disappointed. The taste is similar to something you would traditionally find in Italy and has none of the funky toppings to distract you from the quality gelato.
Personal favourites are Nutella Swirl (with extra nutella of course) and Mango. Give them a shot!
We joined the queue and waited about 10 mins to be served. They give tastings and in the end I got their pistachio and banana (they just ran out of banoffi) and got the hot chocolate on top for $1 extra. My son got their strawberry, rose & cream and husband went for their salted caramel and a coconut flavour.
The flavours were pretty good and the gelato had good texture but I have been spoilt with gelato and I wouldn’t say it’s the best I had but glad we came to try and tick it off our list.
Passion fruit flavor was delicious and so was the mango flavor. It was very fruity as if you were actually tasting fresh fruit. If I were to go again I would definitely get passionfruit but want to try the pineapple
I've been a customer of Pidapipo for several years already and it's gotta be the BEST pistachio flavoured gelato I've ever had. Other not to be missed classic flavours are the hazelnut and fior di latte. Seasonal flavours are great too, though I do prefer the classics. I love the texture of the light yet creamy and flavourful gelato here. Keep up the good work!

Oh my goodness this gelato is amazing! It was delicious with a melt in your mouth gelato. I had a double scoop of lemon and mango. Both flavours were tart and sweet. There was a queue and seems to always be when I visit, but for me, it was worth the wait.
Superb Gelato. Probably the best I've tried as for now. Had the eclectic choice of Ricotta, Lavender and Lemon Zest gelato. Really had a balanced flavor combination topped with Amarena Cherry that added sweet finish to the aromatic gelato.
Came here as a recommendation that's it's the best ice cream in Melbourne.
The store has great decor and is very creative. We came here on a really cold and windy day and would have loved to sit inside however there is very limited seating inside.
The ice cream flavours are unique, we had the fresh mint and white chocolate. It was a real interesting flavour but I definitely enjoyed it.
I definitely want to try more flavours in summer!
The Hazelnut on the other hand is a complete show-stopper, and definitely the best rendition I’ve ever had. Silky smooth and absolutely decadent, the aromatic nuttiness of it really has to be tasted to be believed.

Hands down best ice cream I've had in Melbourne. So creamy and smooth, it was delightful to eat.
The flavours were intriguing too. The ricotta, lavender and lemon zest caught my eye and after trying it had to have it ! It sounds funky but quite honestly it was one of the nicest ice creams I've ever had. Pistachio can always be a bit hit and miss too but once again, this pistachio flavour was certainly the best I'd ever tried.
Value for money wise, fairly standard ice cream prices but not stingy on serving sizes so I was happy to pay the price we did for 2 scoops. Honestly given the quality, I probably would have paid more !
Definitely be coming back here and I'll be bringing my family, friends or honestly I'd go by myself and that's not even a sad prospect given the joy this ice cream brings. Whether it's hot, cold, raining or sunshine, a huge line that curves around the block (which there can be) or no line (if you happen to strike gold), just to have some of this delightful ice cream again.

The best gelato! Every time I try a new flavour I love it. Often has a long line but they are quick and it's worth the wait. Even the vegan coconut flavour was amazing.
Melts in your mouth gelato!!! It's amazing!! Creamy and smooth and totally gets you hooked. I hear that the flavours are constantly changing so be ill be sure to come back here again soon!!
We had to stop when we saw the queue. It moved pretty quickly. The menu board is a bit confusing and there were people standing in front of it so we couldn't see it. I asked for raspberry and banana. I got vanilla with a raspberry swirl which was delicious but not what I wanted. The banana was nice but not a lot of flavour. What stood out was the amazing creamy smooth texture. Silky smooth and that made all the difference.
Worth the place to try whether you are a university student or tourist folks that likes ice cream in both hot and cold days. The flavour is delicious especially the hazelnut, raspberry swirl, blood orange, pistachio and peanut butter are worth a brain freeze.
Came here on a Sat night, the line was 45 mins long in the cold of winter. Got the nutella swirl, was smooth and creamy, but would not say it was worth the wait in the cold
The decor is adorable. Ice creams are nicely portioned, well churned and cold. Chocolate and vanilla bean are a must. Delicious! I recommend bringing cash for fast service.
Coffee flavor is brilliant! It's not too sweet and has a good balance between the taste of milk and the taste of coffee. Cone is crisp and when it meets the ice cream, nothing can be better.
Hazelnut & pistachio. Like the other reviews, I was so happy with the gelato! There's a lot of great gelato spots along Lygon and this one is just a nice addition. Get the Nutella sauce. Get double.
Fantastic super creamy gelatos!! Interesting flavors and a great way to end an evening on Lyon St. We love our 'nutty' ice creams and couldn't fault any of them that we tried (pistachio, hazelnut, etc). Only gripe are the long queues to get our gelato fix!!
The ice cream/gelato here is absolutely phenomenal. Luckily for us when we came here after dinner, on a Friday night, there was hardly any line at the time. We tried 8 flavours between ourselves and each one was packed full of flavour and we're smooth and creamy. It's such a great place for a little treat after a filling dinner and definitely a must if you are in the area.

- blood orange (sorbet)

The pistachio ice cream was really good, and had a very nutty flavour. The hazelnut tasted very much like ferrero rocher. The chocolate biscotti was, despite being dairy-free, extremely creamy and had a strong peanut butter flavour. The blood orange sorbet was creamy and not watery at all, and the coconut caramelised banana had a nice and caramel-y banana flavour. However, we found the mint white choc a little too minty and not sweet enough.
All in all, it was a great finish to the night! Pidapipo did not disappoint!
Best. Ice cream. Ever. No other words are needed, it's a must try. This is an experience you don't want to miss out on. On the other hand maybe I should say don't go and hopefully the line isn't so big next time I go which will be soon. 😊
Man, I came all the way back to Lygon st just for the pistachio gelato. It is creamy, smooth, full flavoured and just utter bliss. Absolutely unreal, I had my whole family hooked on it by the time we left Melb! The shop is adorable with all the little quirky decor pieces and the nutella tap just really sets a good vibe 😂 An absolute must do, you will not regret it.
Love the smooth texture of the ice cream. Generous amount for one serving and really friendly staff. Favourite flavour is definitely the pistachio.

Hazelnut tasted distinctly of Ferrero Rocher and for the Dior Di Arancha, the interesting play on bitterness of the dark chocolate and the underbite of citrus orange was really fun. We came here after dinner even though it was freezing cold, and there was still a line?!
That's only a testament to how good the icecream was. Definitely will come back when it's summer - the menu is constantly changing as well!
Came here for the second time after a somewhat disappointing lunch and the lovely pistachio icecream brought me back to life. Each bite had the familiar salty punch of pistachio and melted away to an almost familiar vanilla. Loved it.
What a delicious ice cream. It was so creamy, tasty, and had strong flavour. Their nutella swirl was just awesome. It was a good choice because it wasnt expensive, imo

Excellent quality gelato, worth queuing for. Well actually i would prefer not to queue, sometimes you can get lucky and the lines can be short, generally they do move quite quickly. But colder weather serms to still not entirely deter the fans.
Smooth and delicious gelato. Tried the bacio, raspberry swirl, Nutella swirl, and the pistachio. The bacio was my favourite, try the affogato. Served in a fancy plastic cup, espresso and bacio ice cream together. YUM!!! Be aware of the $1 charge for toppings, the lady asked me if I wanted Nutella on top and of course I said yes! Didn't mind, but be aware! :)
Yummy gelato and sorbet! I had the honey and watermelon, smooth and sweetness is to my liking. One of the lightest gelato I've ever had. Price is quite reasonable plus they have huge variety of flavours for you to choose from.
The pistachio gelato here is so nice. It is comparable to the gelato in Italy. The texture is very smooth and rich in pistachio taste. I love it so much!
I had the Nutella Swirl and Peanut Butter + Caramel Choc gelato in a cone. Also tried Pistachio and Bacio (hazelnut chocolate). The Nutella Swirl was my favourite. Pistachio was my least favourite. Nice ambience, friendly staff, usual pricing. I was there a bit past mid-day and there was no queue (worth mentioning it is June and it is cold)

Tried the raspberry and mascarpone, and the nutella swirl with a dollop of hot nutella of course.
The gelato had a beautiful, creamy texture with clearly defined flavours. Will definitely be returning!

Love the Nutella Swirl and the Banana ice cream flavours over here! The Nutella in particular, was unlike any other diluted Nutella ice creams I've had because there were actual Nutella chunks (I mean, it seems so obvious but it was just like a lightbulb moment for me because I've never really liked Nutella ice cream!).
The banana ice cream was just so intense! I was a regular at Pidapipo when they were still a pop-up with bare white-grey walls before their Lygon days - and I used to be so disappointed when they didn't have the banana flavour because their bananas haven't ripened up yet! The shop uses fresh fruits in their ice cream so I used to sigh when I see the 'pale yellow' bananas as I glance into the shop because that used to be a tell-tale sign for no banana ice cream for the day (ripe, blackened bananas = banana ice cream will be available soon/is already available. I may have a neurotic obsession with ice cream...).
The friendly founder of the place had studied the art of ice cream making in Italy herself and I'm so glad to see the shop turn into such a success!

I always get their ice cream delivered to my house through UberEATS. It's delish Love the bacio and salted caramel. A bit pricey is the only downside. And warning: it's super addictive!
A really really good place to fix that icecream craving. I really liked the hazelnut flavour (which I got because they were out of peanut butter *sadface*) but whatever flavour you get, be sure to add the Nutella topping which you can see running from a tap behind the counter.
This is the best Gelato in Melbourne. The flavours are all so Incedible, the service is always fast paced and genuine. Great after dinner desert spot.
I'm a sweet tooth and the kind of person that looks at the dessert menu before deciding on mains. Never had a bad scoop (or two) from Pidapipo!
There was a big crowd of people and a line once we had arrived - yet we were served in moments! I had the Nutella and salted caramel gelato in a cup - both were delicious individually but overwhelmingly sweet together, so I recommend sticking to one flavour. My boyfriend had the avocado & lime sorbet in a cone - it was tangy and very refreshing on the palate. Textures of both the gelato and sorbet were velvety smooth and to die for. Will definitely revisit this place!
Drove past this place a number of times while on holidays in Melbourne and there is always a que, Decided to try it one night and was pleasantly surprised with the texture and taste of their gelato. Very friendly staff also. A must on lygon street !!!!

I love the pistachio flavour and Nutella fountain!
DO: The salted caramel. Actually just do all of them. They're all so smooth and creamy. Like, really smooth and creamy.
DON'T: Stop at one Flavour. Do a couple of scoops or better yet, top it with Nutella swirls.
TIP: Gets heaps busy but so worth it. Get a table first, preferably one of the window seats.

Excited to finally try Pidapipo, have been hearing great reviews about it, and thankfully, all of this reviews are proven to be true. Starting by the friendly staffs, the cute and comfy shop that are filled with colors. The range of flavors that are very very various, went here with my family.
We ordered:
-salted caramel (milk based) ice cream cone
-nutella swirl (milk based) ice cream cone
-pistachio milkshake
-strawberry milkshake
Everything tasted amazing, but mostly, I'm in love with their Nutella Swirl ice cream. Out of all the ice cream I've tried in Melbourne, this flavor is dabomb! They gave extra nutella on top of the ice cream, and the combination of the ice cream & nutella toppings are just... hands off. Best. Nutella. Ice cream. Ever.
It is rare to find ice cream that are nutella flavored that have the perfect amount of chocolate, sugar and milk. At first, I didn't want to order the nutella flavor, when I first try it, it was just normal and nothing special. But after I got to try it with the nutella toppings, it was just, amazing. The toppings perfected the amount of sweetness (not too sweet or too chocolatey) it's such a perfect combination.
A job well done for Pidapipo!

This place is next level. Best gelato on Lygon by a mile. Staff are efficient so you're not waiting too long, even if the line looks huge. The variety of gelato is great but I always seem to get my favourites... Coconut is great. As is the Nutella Swirl. So good

Amazing ice cream with great texture, very unique. A little bit on the sweet side but in general, a nice place to be.
Service here was alright, they didn't seem interested when I asked to try the flavors? Maybe because some people try all and leave but I was genuinely keen. Lost points for that.

best gelato ever!! the price went up a bit which is sad cos it used to be really cheap too but the pistachio has to be my all time favourite. there is usually a line especially at night even in winter. the nutty flavour is so strong and satisfying and the gelato itself is so smooth.
Come here often for delicious gelato and enjoy it ever time I go!! Recommend every flavour! Don't get put off by the line outside as it moves quickly.

I'd heard a lot of hype about this place, and that was only emphasised by the line that was half way down the street. I'm happy to wait for quality, which is what we did.m, and it was absolutely worth it. The quality of the gelato at this place is elite. The milk based flavours are unbelievable.
The Nutella swirl and salted caramel are an incredible combination.
Line out the door can only mean one thing... this place is good! Great selection of creamy and delicious ice cream on offer. We opted for the hazelnut and salted caramel in a tub - both were spot on. The Nutella swirl and raspberry swirl were also impeccable. Served with hot Nutella over the top, we couldn't have been happier!
I'm not even a big ice cream fan, but pidapipo is OTHER WORDLY. It's ridiculous. Nutella fountain? Salted caramel that actually tastes like salted caramel? Sold. I don't think pidapipo can be matched. I don't really dig Icecream but I LOVE pidapipo.

The few times that I've driven or walked past this place there has always been a queue outside. This of course piqued my interest. A friend of mine had also mentioned the amazing icecream here so after dinner at a nearby restaurant one day we walked down to check it out. Of course we had to line up but it wasn't long until we were right at the door. It gave me some time to look up the history of the place anyway which I might as well share with you.
Lisa Valmorbida has grown up in a passionate Italian family with a love for Italian culture, food and sweets. She studied at a gelato university and visited her family's hometown to learn, test and perfect her skill. The result? Her own gelataria back in Melbourne using the best ingredients and handmade each day!
The menu of different flavours was extensive but we finally setlled on a scoop of the watermelon sorbet and a scoop of the coffee icecream. They were both delicious! The watermelon tasted just like watermelon and it had bits of watermelon throughout it. The coffee icecream had a nice amount of coffee in it, enough for you to taste the bitterness which I loved and it wasn't overly sweet. It was also so silky and creamy, such perfect texture. Honestly the best icecream I've had in Melbourne! Highly recommend you check it out!

Ice creams are absolutely divine & while a short queue it does move fast. Features a nice mix of innovative & traditional flavours. Fior di latte - lush, deep, creamy & subtle is my favourite. Service is very fast so no time for dithering.
There's a lot of hype around this place and sure the gelato is really tasty but I was hoping they'd be doing something a bit different to the rest with like unique flavours or toppings. But at least they are great at what they set out to do which is make delicious gelato
Continuing from my birthday lunch, we made a quick stop at Pidapipo. I'm a big fan of pistachio flavoured ice cream and it's my top choice if it is on offer. And I reckon, Pidapipo serves the best not just in Melbourne, but in Perth as well. My dad seconds that too!. If you're not a crazy pistachio fan like me, Pidapipo has an extensive range of flavours to choose from. They aren't too crazy with funky flavours but sometimes nailing the simple and classic flavours are more important.
On order: strawberry-rose cream and watermelon sorbet.
Nice flavours but what I think they lack compared to the famous gelateria are the odd yet amazing flavours (I'm hinting on Helados juaja here) but overall a pretty good experience. Would gladly return.
It is a good place to visit on a hot summer's day. Love that the icecream is freshly made and the flavours have a lovely refreshing feel to them! However, if, like me, you are on the lookout for flavours that are out of the ordinary, Pidapipo won't offer too much to satisfy the adventurous foodie.

I was with Mrs Creative and we were craving desserts. We were already in the city so I suggested Pidapipo since there’s always a line out front and it’s an ice-creamery which I have yet to tried. I turned the car towards Carlton, walked a block and finally reached the glowing neon sign which indicated that heaven was around the corner.

Really good icecream! The place is very cool and there's always a line here it seems but the creams are of top quality. My favourite was the peanut butter icecream.
Delicious gelato here on Lygon street. Quite busy after 6pm so you might have to queuing a bit. Wish they could have some more seats. So much flavours to choose from.

This place has a good selection of flavours. The also have a Nutella tap, but I'd recommend halving the Nutella sauce to avoid ur gelato from becoming overtly sweet.
There were 4 of us, so I got to try a few different flavours - there were all so good so it'll be pretty hard to find a bad flavour.
Definitely a must visit place on a hot, sunny day!

Coconut was divine, creamy but still coconutty. Marscarpone and raspberry jam was delicious - not super sweet as I worried. The jam tastes homemade in the sense it pretty much has whole raspberries in it. Hazelnut was the perfect balance of flavour and creaminess. Coffee had a great strong taste, not that overly creamy stuff that is everywhere else. Watermelon, passionfruit and lemon were all delicious and natural.

The mascarpone with strawberry jam was rich and intensely jammy - it will see me coming back for more! The pistachio was richly flavored and managed to meet the somewhat unreasonable standards of the pistachio icecream junkie who accompanied me. Would have liked the chocolate to have been a little more chocolatey but that's a very minor gripe. The shop is very cute and service was sweet. Made a rainy and cold summer day most enjoyable!!

Really love this gelato bar! I did not regret visiting this place on my last day at Melbourne. The flavours were great, I highly recommend their pistachio. However, the staff was not friendly.

YAY FINALLY I GOT TO TRY THIS PLACE OUT!! no lines whatsoever. Or maybe just a little. Unique flavours of ice cream and I love how it's authentic gelato. It tasted wonderful. I tried the water melon and I tasted like I was eating the piece of fruit itself. I also tried the strawberry rose & cream and it was like, eating a strawberry yoghurt. It was nice and creamy! LOVE IT
Delicious flavours of ice cream and a cute looking shop! I happen to go when it was not ridiculously busy which was lucky. The ice cream is delicious, full of flavour and definitely worth it!
The ice cream here was lovely and up there with the top ten in Melbourne, but worth the wait? Not too sure. When we came it wasn't that busy and we only waited about 10 minutes. On other occasions I've seen much larger lines and probably wouldn't wait that long.
The staff were great especially one of the males, he was happy and willing to assist anyone and also offering samples. I loved that they were all Italians and spoke with accents it gave the place an authentic feel.
The ice cream portions is where this place lost me a bit. Mine was larger than my partners but there were others whose were double my size even though we all got two scoops. I guess it depends on who serves you but this shouldn't be happening when we are all paying the same amount we should get similar sized ice cream.
And definitely pay the extra $1 to get Nutella poured on top. Well worth it.
Summer & ice cream & fresh flavours = happy tastebuds. Originally opening as a popup, pidapipo has been running in its current permanent home for a while now. Almost always packed with people looking to satisfy their ice cream cravings, it never takes long to get served even when you see a huge line out front.
I always love trying a few different ones before settling on a cone of something tasty. You can also get a cup of ice cream if you want to be boring (I don't get what everyone sees in cups over cones!). The highlights for me are usually the gelato made with fresh seasonal fruit. Mint, honeycomb, watermelon, peach, passionfruit and blood orange have all been delicious creations in the past. Coffee is also a safe bet.
There is a liquid chocolate tap if you are keen on getting an even bigger sugar hit. Bring on summer!
The gelato here are tasty. I had the Nutella swirl with Nutella sauce on a cone, a good combination. My friend had the hazelnut with Nutella sauce which was amazing. I will come back for their watermelon sorbet - it's really refreshing.
I thought the only place to go for gelato was Messina, but Pidapipo definitely gives them a run for their money. I enjoyed the salted caramel- I only ordered one scoop but I quickly wished that I ordered two!

After dinner we headed out to this place and I was glad! I have been looking for an excuse to try it. I was ecstatic. I had the coffee and oh my! It was amazing! I can't wait to go back and try more flavours. Maybe I will check out the one in Chapel Street as I live around the area. But this place is highly recommended.

My favourite place for ice-cream/gelato in Melbourne! Silky smooth and soft and not too sweet. It doesn't have the variety of say, Messina but the texture of their ice-cream more than makes up for it. I think it's worth the wait/queue.
After trying many of the existing gelati places already on Lygon St, I was excited to try this place out. Got the salted caramel and raspberry swirl and my friend getting the pistachio and Nutella flavours, we both loved the creamy texture. Staff were friendly and willing to offer samples to try beforehand. Would return during the summer months for sure 👌🏻
A small dessert place with the biggest queue ever. The icecream served here was amazing and different. Loved the gelato based desserts. Not too sweet so will be liked by everyone.

As a person who hates the manmade flavour of all kinds of fruits, this watermelon gelato is the real deal! It tastes just like a watermelon! Not the weird water lemon extract flavour or anything unnatural.
Pistachio never goes wrong. Super nutty and creamy! Great companion of the fruity water lemon gelato.
The bottom one is double roasted chocolate. Not bad but when have it with the sweeter water lemon, it tastes a lot bitter than it naturally is.

After word-of-mouth and reading reviews I had high expectations of Pidapipo. The long line and the number of people eating gelato outside the store on a cool night further increased my expectations.
We had the watermelon, hazelnut and a chocolatey gelato. Initial impression was gelato was very smooth, creamy and rich. However towards the middle we started to feel like it was too sweet. Prices were cheap compared to nitrogen gelato places.
Overall gelato was nice but we didn't feel it was the 'best' gelato we have ever had, I personally prefer Messina and the nitrogen gelato places.
We had 2 ice creams like coconut & watermelon sorbet and pistachio and banana. The second was really amazing but the first one was not that good. Staff was really nice
The gelato is excellent. We faced a bit of a queue on Friday night but it moved fairly quickly. Pistachio is one of my all time favourites and the one here is close to perfection, it's smooth, nutty and not too sweet. The ricotta honey cinnamon was surprisingly good, it reminded me of a chai latte. They had a death by chocolate special flavour which was double roasted chocolate salt chocolate ganache. It was very rich as I had expected but the lingering saltiness really made it standout. Will definitely be back.
The hazelnut gelato is delicious as usual. Very rich and creamy. Probably the smoothest gelato in Melbourne. Decent hazelnut flavour without being too overpowering. The cone was crunchy. Not much else to it. . However the gelato was a tad on the sweet side this time. The wait. Be prepared for that looooooong line.
SALTED CARAMEL! Wow! This ice cream was amazing! Full of flavour and not too salty! I have driven past this place a few times at night and the line can get very long, but definitely worth it!

SO GOOD! Ordered a 500ml tub with 2 flavours (watermelon and bacio), a cone and nutella through ubereats. Taste wise, bacio is really rich but not too sweet which is great. For the watermelon, IT IS SO DAMN GOOD. At first I ordered watermelon because I wanted to try how 'fake' it tastes but Pidapipo proves me wrong. It tastes very natural like watermelon slushie but in a gelato form. Haha.
Texture wise, bacio is soft and smooth while the watermelon's a bit rough.

Easily the best ice-cream / gelato ice ever had. Had salted Caramel, Pistachio and Watermelon flavours. Was ridiculously impressed with Watermelon, never had the flavour taste so natural. Can tell its 100% real and not fake flavouring like other ice creams I've had that taste like watermelon bubblegum.
Was a bit surprised that compared to other gelato places they only had probably half the flavours available else where. But definitely worth it.
The pistachio tastes like ACTUAL pistachio nuts.. like they made it into a paste and turned it into a gelato. And the hazelnut was one of the better ones I've had.
The prices are not just reasonable, but cheaper than a lot of mediocre gelato places.
Considering the amount of people queueing up, I thought the staff would be put out if I asked to taste between 2 flavours I couldn't decide. But they were very nice.

One of the best ice cream places in Melbourne! No matter what time of year, even in winter this place has a huge line outside of it. You might have to wait 5-10 minutes but I promise it will be worth it.

Si! Si! Si! The gelato here is buonissimo..had bacio, fior di latte and watermelon and the quality was very high. The only flaw was the watermelon, not being in season has an impact on the flavour overall. Aside from that we will be back to try the pistacchio flavour.

Pidapipó is a MUST for gelato if you are on Lygon. It is a cute, inviting little store just across from Brunetti's. It is very popular, so expect a line and short waiting time. The staff are very friendly and are pretty good at serving everyone as fast as possible. The gelato is super creamy and delicious, it is very similar to gelato in Italy.
TIP: Do try the Zabaglione or the Bacio -classic Italian flavours done right. Don't forget to try the Nutella Swirl- it is superbly creamy!
If you're after a sweet treat and manage to evade Brunetti's neon claws, Pidapipó should be next on your list.
With a range of base flavours, nothing too outlandish, your preference should be among the fray.
Peak wait times could dull the experience, but you shouldn't be deterred. Gelato wise, it's probably better than Brunetti...

Don't expect yourself to be able to rock up at pidapipó without being in a line (well, especially so on Friday to Sunday nights).
I like how they cater to a broad customer base by providing customers the choice of milk based gelati or sorbets.
Personally a fan of their kiwi sorbet, it's unlike any kiwi sorbet I've ever tried.
Their Nutella gelato is a personal fave of mine, and if you're feeling extra indulgent that day, top your gelato with hot Nutella topping. Perrrrrrfection.
Their apple crumble and raspberry swirl do have chunks of crumble and raspberry in the gelato itself. Feels like a mini treasure hunt!
As much as I'd like to show my absolute support for pidapipó, some flavours left me underwhelmed. The salted caramel was wayyyy too sweet, and the hazelnut flavour was kinda meh.
Their menu changes up pretty frequently, and it's also based on the demand of each of the flavours for the day.
I think one of the main reasons why pidapipó has managed to garner such a huge fan base is that their gelati and sorbets are jam packed with real ingredients, and are all prepared in store.
You know when a gelateria is good when it's winter and a 20 mins wait out of the door. 👌🏻

I literally dream about their gelato, and am currently obsessed with their salted caramel peanut butter biscotti. Between this and the chapel st store, I've probably tried most of their flavours. I'm not a big sorbet or fruit flavoured fan, but all the creamy ones, oh we get along very well. I love the texture - smooth, just the perfect consistency, and so creamy. Heaven in a cone/cup/tub. Seriously I come here too often, help.
A 20 minute wait at 9:00pm on a winters night is enough to say how delicious this gelato is. As a traveller who has tasted the pure heaven of gelato from Italy, I must say Pidapipo is as close as you're going to get to tasting how good Italian gelato is.
Pidapipo range of flavour are an abundant and deciding what to chose while waiting in line is always half the experience.
In terms of texture it's creaminess is incomparable to any other gelato vendor here in Melbourne. A must try is combine your gelato with a rich amount of Nutella hot fudge.
The only thing I could falter is the service in its staff. Not saying all of them are rude but there are the in particular 1 or 2 staff who have treated us rudely on a few of our visits.
All in all, Pidapipo is still the best gelato in Melbourne. To those who say your not a desert fan, try Pidapipo. I dare you.
I loved the gelatos here! We tried coffee brownie, salted caramel with peanut butter biscotti, hazelnut, Nutella swirl, banana milk and pistachio. I would highly recommend pistachio, salted caramel, banana milk and coffee brownie. My friends loved the Nutella swirl and hazelnut too, but I wasn't a big fan of it.
Icecream was really nice and not too heavy! The flavour were not artificial and were true to the description! I didn't feel parched after eating it which is good cause most time I feel like dying of thirst after eating heavy icecream , so good job pidapipo!

Nothing better than some dessert ice cream after a big meal. They have dairy free flavour which is awesome, coz one of my friend can't eat dairy. sad yea. Ice cream were great, though you may have to wait in a long line but is pretty quick so stay warm and pick the flavour you want.

Possibly the best place for ice cream in Melbourne!! The nutella, pistachio and peanutbutter flavour are a must try!! This place has a queue even in the middle of winter for a reason!! Shame that the venue is rather small, itd be such a great place for coffee and catch up!
I couldn't believe that people would queue in the cold for ice-cream (even in Melbourne) and was a tad sceptical when one such 'queuer' told me it was well worth the wait. That is, until I tried it myself. The pistachio ice-cream is exquisite. My only criticism is that the chalkboard list of flavours is hard to read when the shop is busy.
We turned up and there was no queue - Just us chickens next in line. Now I know what the fuss is all about, and why people are prepared to line up. The ice cream is the smoothest I have ever tried - and it seems that, along with the flavour, is the clincher. The peanut butter was magical. I snagged a lick of my friend's pistachio and that was pretty amazing too. Going to try the coconut and chocolate next time

Heaven on the tastebuds! Pidapipó's gelato is super smooth and not heavy like other frozen dessert places. Provides a wide range of flavour options, including dairy free options. Vibe is very cool, with trendy electric music playing and friendly staff.
This place is like a second Messina,similar ambience,vibe and gelato goodness. Had their 1 litre tub took away 3 times within a month, my absolute favourite is their bachi, pistachio, tiramisu and caramel. They are so creamy,divine and just got you hooked immediately. However, their fruity flavour somehow taste more acidic than sweet. The great news is their 1 litre tub appear to be more affordable compared to the nearby gelato bar and hence i can come back for more. Will definitely be back to try the Nutella swirl on cone soon.

All I can say is WOWOWOWOWOW. After a late night movie at nova, it was raining and there was a line outside Pidapipo. Damn was that 5 minute wait in the cold totally worth it. This has to be one of the best icecream institutions ever. So so so so good! Sometimes icecream is sickening and overhyped, but Pidapipo blew both my boyfriend and I away. I had the Nutella swirl and watermelon, he had pina colada and banana milk. Perfect consistency and amount of sweetness. Icecream heaven I'll be back for more. Go! You'll like it too!

Some of the best gelato I've ever had. 100% recommend coming here for a cheeky after dinner dessert. We waited for about 15 minutes in the cold because the line was out the door and it was worth it.
Banana milk, peanut butter absolutely amazing, but what really blew me away was the watermelon. GET THE WATERMELON. So much flavour, fresh and just downright delicious.

The best Gelati I've had in years. I particularly liked the strawberry rose, and the pistachio is surprisingly not green, mind my ignorance. Creamy texture and flavours so distinct, my friend commented that it's the closest you can get to the real stuff in Italy. Was tempted to buy a whole tub home.
Really rich ice cream with hot nutella~ wonderful~ Strawberry is a bit sour but really juicy and chocolate and coconut are great! Vanilla is just like what we usually have.

Tried the passionfruit and salted caramel. The passionfruit had more of a sorbet texture to it, while the salted caramel was really creamy. The salted caramel was a bit too salty for me, but I guess it's good if you like it that way.
Finally something to overtake the ice cream shop down the road on Lygon street next to the park! The ice cream is really creamy and while the serve size is a bit smaller then elsewhere, it's definitely more rich, smooth and creamy. The limited amount of flavours are all done very well. Smashes Messina in my opinion. The only problem is the extra gym sessions now needed to reel back in a twice weekly pig out at pidapippo's ice cream!
Lygon Street- the little Italy of Melbourne- you will find the queues of people keenly waiting outside Pidapipo Gelateria. 1950's/60's style decor, with a retro flashing sign outside and old school cans of produce on the shelves, the furnishings consist of wood, stone, marble and brass and the gelato is stored in tins to keep fresh.
The artisan style gelato is more textured with residues of the fruits/ chocolates/ nuts magnifying the true and natural aromas and flavors. Consistency is light and creamy. The scoops are not rolled into spheres but are schlapped on to your cup/cone! (Nice old school touch!).
Try the Nutella toping or the real raw fresh honey!

These guys were super great. Very friendly and quite on the cool side. Was surprised at how cheap the ice cream was. I had the raisin & cinnamon + the pistachio...........delicious. my ice cream obsession seems to be a thing thats only getting worse with time! and Pidapipo met every expectation. its just too bad to have an ice cream where the "ice" part was taken ro seriously. in pidapipo its about the ice, but also the cream!, and what you get is a lush, wonderfully creamy cone of goodness. salted caramel was great, and so was lemon. im dying to go try coffee ice cream. i was also amazed at how efficient tjw place worked! it was packed, and i had my ice cream in a second. loved it and would go back for more!

Came here on a Monday night and was surprised by the line outside. I had really high expectations due to all the hype, but although finding it to be very good, it wasn't mind-blowingly so. The gelato was very smooth and creamy, and it definitely delivered on the flavour. I tried the peanut butter as well as the cinnamon biscotti. The cinnamon biscotti was definitely my preferred flavour of the two. It had a strong but not overpowering cinnamon flavour, and I loved the little bits of biscotti throughout the gelato which provided a great crunch. The peanut butter gelato had a strong, natural peanut flavour, but it wasn't as yummy as the cinnamon biscotti. I also sampled a bit of the baci gelato, which had an extremely strong hazelnut flavour, which I loved. I also tried the fior di latte, which honestly was a little bland and boring.
One negative about the gelato is that it melts super quickly. It was dripping the moment the ice cream was handed to us, and it didn't help that we got our ice creams in a waffle cone. It was a messy affair! Overall I enjoyed the gelato, but I definitely prefer Gelato Messina and Il Dolce Freddo.
OMG yum, I love proper italian gelati, the traditional way & I'm really not interested in wanky trendy flavours or overly sweet American style icecream . This really was smooth & rich in natural robust flavour, the hazelnut & pistachio were both really beautiful & full of true nutty flavour...absolutely lovely. I only had a taste test of the pistachio which honestly is reminiscent of eating a bag of salted pistachio nuts! The cones are super crunchy & enjoyable aswell. $4 for 1scoop or $6 for 2 is pretty good too.. Big yum to this place!
As a tourist visiting for the Easter break hadn't come across the Pidapipo story. Realised from the queue it was worth trying and the wait was no problem. Nutella Swirl, Salted Caramel, Hazelnut and Cinnamon Raisin were all fantastic - best ever tried.
Easily the best ice-cream you'll have. This is especially great if you're a nutella lover, their nutella flavours are unreal! The choice of nutella sauce also makes it an ideal dessert! Only let down is the lack of seating and long lines at busy hours of the night. But still an excellent choice!

We have to agree with the other reviewers! One of the best gelato places in Melbourne. There's always a line in front of Pidapipo for a reason. We tried one of the milk-based flavours (salted caramel) and cheese-based (mascarpone berry) and both were great. We also tried the pastichio flavour but it was a bit too nutty for us. The gelato was silky smooth and soft. The taste was not too heavy as well. We'll definitely return to try other flavours.

Place has a great selection of gelati, the lines are usually long on weekends but it's fast an u don't have to wait long. Most flavours are exceptional my recent visit i had the Nutella swirl an coconut, was amazing. Would be a regular here!
the parmesan, honey and fig is one of the most amazing gelato flavours ever. always look at the menu to see if i should get anything else but dont stray from the fig haha
Fantastic pistachio icecream! Such an authentic taste! The passion fruit sorbet was also nice and tart with seeds in. The service is friendly and fast-moving and the interior decor is fashionable and inviting. Great for a treat!

Located in Melbourne’s little slice of Italy, Lygon street, Pidapipo offers such authentic, creamy gelato you’ll want to exclaim “Mamma mia!!” or in my case “Shit that’s good!” while frantically messaging all my friends about it. Surrounded by giant jars of Nutella, fresh fruit and waffle cones, this food-porn palace is visually pleasing to say the least.I loved the simple, colour-blocking shapes on the wall and the word “Gelateria” lit up in neon orange, adding a sense of fun.
Service:
The young Italians, or “Gelato Gods” as I now call them, were adorable as they spoke broken English and smiled knowingly at me, foreseeing my Gelato euphoria about to commence.
Food:
I got two scoops for $6.00 in a crunchy waffle cone. The nail biting decision to select only two flavours was emotionally confronting but I didn’t regret my mouth watering choices: Bacio (a dark chocolate and hazelnut flavour) and Mango. The Bacio was so creamy and milky and nutty and did I mention creamy? And as I licked up the Mango dribbling down the side of my cone I was startled. This dairy-free Mango Sorbet was just as creamy and divine as the Gelato!!! I’m smitten.

Very fresh gelato! Totally love it! I have mint choc chips and mojito. Both of them are nice. Mojito is stronger in flavour and more sour though, with a hint of peppermint, taste like a sorbet. But mint choc chips is much lighter in flavour, I love it but mojito is too strong. This wrong combo I have chosen XD 2 scoops for 6, 3 scoops for 7. Very tempted to go for 3 scoops indeed if I ain't that full... Definitely coming back again!
As an absolute ice cream freak I have no hesitation saying this is hands down the best gelato I have tried in Melbourne! Their milk based gelato could not get fresher. Tried the peanut butter, pistachio and Nutella swirl flavours topped with off with melted Nutella and was in serious ice cream heaven.
I've always wanted to give this place a go after hearing many great reviews about it. Came here on a Sunday evening and the line was okay, probably a 10-15min wait because the service was quite fast. I had the watermelon, rockmelon and rose strawberries & cream (I think that's the name). The flavours tastes so real and natural. This place was also quite cheap compared to other popular ice cream joints and the scoops were massive. Originally wanted 2 scoops for $6 but got 3 scoops instead since it was only $1 extra. Well worth it!
Their milk based and their formaggio ice cream (cheese based) flavours are delicious!
I've tried the ricotta, cannoli & nutella, as well as the parmesan, fig & honey. Not a fan of cheese however you can't smell the parmesan flavours (which is what I strongly dislike about parmesan) in the latter, and the ricotta itself is a mild cheese.
I've also tried banana milk, hazelnut, mojito, pistachio, peanut butter, etc. so many more I can't remember. They were all extremely good.
The only reason I am giving a rating of 4.5 is because the watermelon was disappointing.
Lines look long, but it moves fairly quickly.
Staff have no issues letting you try as many flavours as you like (unlike Freddo's and Helados Jauja along Lygon that basically told me I'm not allowed to try any more after sampling 2 flavours).
Pistachio and bacio flavours are what we tried.. Liked them both 👍🏼a little sweeter than what we would have liked but really creamy which was good. The hot Nutella topping makes it pretty amazing 😊

I hardly visit Carlton and only found out about this lil gelato store TODAY!! There aren't many good gelato store around the CBD area and this is one of them! Neat and fun colours splashed across the store, outdoor seatings and music. The staffs are friendly and bubbly, with no intimidation when you ask to taste more than 2 flavors. *win* The prices are very reasonable too!:and last and most importantly- the taste. Gelato Heaven! I tried their ricotta, salted caramel and also coconut. Love them all! Flavorful, indulgent, delicious! I'm definitely coming back to try out the other flavs on the board. If i need to complain and pick on something -the music is a bit too loud. 😁

After a hot day wandering around the zoo we popped into Carlton for some refreshing gelato. My friend recommended Pidapipo, gushing about their pistachio flavour that is a must try, but I forgot, and instead opted for mint and bacio which were both amazing! She did get mad at me though, so I will go back and try the pistachio one day.
BEST GELATO IN MELBOURNE!! If you haven't tried Pidapipo yet, please do yourself a favour and do so ASAP! The salted caramel gelato and mango sorbet are to die for. The line outside the restaurant was out of control tonight. Staff was so efficient and friendly despite the crowd. The wait was completely worth it and we'll definitely be back to try different flavours from the menu :3
Finally made it to the famous gelato shop - Pidapipo and we were not disappointed.
At 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon the line was quite long (approximately 20 patrons), however the queue moved well.
We tried watermelon (excellent), chocolate and mango (not bad).
The shop front is funky with lovely pastel colours.
We will be back!
When I think of Pidapipo, i think of massive lines. It's especially suprising considering that Lygon st is the 'Italian' central of Melbourne. With tons of other ice cream stores on the same street, Pidapipo lives up to its reputation of top quality ice cream with their endless streams of customers.
I prefer pidapipo over Gelato Messina any day. Their gelato is so much more smoother, creamier and tastier. Can't wait for their new store to open in Windsor.
What made me stop were the words "Formaggio Gelato"... Cheese & Icecream?!? Oh! I'm so glad I decided to try! Bellissimo!! Parmesan, Fig & Honey was devine. Sweet, creamy, subtle parmesan flavour, chunks of fig... Totally in love! Thank you for you bold creations Pidapipó, I'll definitely be back to try your other flavours. New gelato craving satisfier place, so much yes!
I had the salted caramel and it was good. Great location, great service, and one of their Italian waiter is very handsome lol. Definitely will come back to try their formaggio. During summer they are having a special formaggio icecream which is icecream and cheese (omg!), I've tried the mascarpone on my second visit and it was SO SO SO GOOD!
Messina was my favourite until pidapippo (and scroll icecream) came along. The sorbet is so fresh and the other flavours I've tried (hazelnut and pistachio) are so flavoursome. Definitely worth checking out
Have been their fan at the old spot before they moved on Lygon street. Always get their pistachio flavour gelato. It's the best in Melbourne:) it tastes absolutely natural. The colour of their pistachio gelato is not artificial green as that of other gelato shop.
Tip: order half litre tub for two flavours:) it's more economical for two ppl to share.
They have many choices of flavor and the service is fast and good. I had watermelon and rose cream something, they both are good but a tiny bit sweet.
As a self-proclaimed gelato aficionado, a handful of friends had urged me to go to Pidapipo while visiting Melbourne for the weekend and I am so glad they did. As we approached Pidapipo, a sea of people were flooding out the door all lining up for gelato, but with their swift service we had our gelato in our hot little hands within 5 minutes.
I ordered the Banana Milk and the Nutella Swirl and my boyfriend ordered the Salted Caramel and the Strawberry, Rose & Cream. Two words: BLOODY INCREDIBLE. Simple yet incredible flavours and incredibly smooth texture.
Exactly how gelato should be and exactly how I imagine it would taste from Italy! So much so that my boyfriend mumbled to me with a mouth full of Salted Caramel gelato "This is even better than the gelato I had in Italy". And to top it all off, for $1 extra you can have hot Nutella poured over the top... Be still, my beating heart. It was our first time there last night and this afternoon will be our second, we just can't get enough.
Tried nutella swirl, coconut, rock melon and cardamom n pistachio flavour. It was alright. It was good, soft but i cant find the thing that makes me shout 'OMG it blew my mind and i have to go back there right away' vibe like everybody did. Probably i was looking for something new; some new flavour, new variety, the thing that i cant find there. I am not saying i wasn't good because it was. I was soft, it was good, and what i like most: i was not overly sweet. And yes, i do agree with one of the reviewer, please make your menu visible for people who's been lining up on the street so that they know what to choose and what to expect because some people are so indecisive (i know i am), not everybody can make a quick decision and not everybody have been there before
Im inlove with their ICE CREAM!!! I got the peanut butter chocolate.... its sooo nice I love it hahah Im in love its like heaven 😂 its packed though so its kinda hard to find a place to sit... :(
My favourite ice cream place in Melbourne. I love their pistachio and nutella swirl flavours! Their pistachio is very light and the taste is not overpowering. It just makes you want to reach out for another scoop. The nutella swirl itself is probably the most legendary flavour they have. I love how they add hot nutella on top of the scoop. It's just delish.
Big big love for their pistachio gellato, it tastes literally like pistachio. Banana milk was okay. The nutella swirl worth to try. Once again, cant get enough for their pistachio!!! definitely best in town!!
I have finally found a place in Melbourne where gelato is real gelato (and not ice cream). Gelato is amazing, not matter the flavour, and size is considerably abundant for the frugal Melbourne standard.
The place is lovely and the stainless steel pozzetti are a real plus!
The most silky-nest gelato I have ever tasted! Mind blown!! It's a must try! And all the flavours are devine! Will be back many times again!
I like the style of the store. The menu on the wall is very clear. Nice service n friendly smile. Be free to taste the flavour what u wanna have. The cone really nice, crispy n crunchy. I love it very much.
This place has the best pistachio gelato, even better than those I had in Italy (granted I might not be visiting the best gelato places there). I'm willing to queue up in winter or summer or whatever.
lovely unpretentious gelato outlet with friendly staff ... tried the salted caramel flavour and I fell in love with the creamy texture which was nicely balanced by the awesome taste and right amount of sweetness ... even the cone was very good ... I'll definitely return to try out the other flavours

U.N.B.E.L.I.E.V.A.B.L.E. - I challenge you to find a better traditional gelato store in Melbourne! Pidapipó is a deliciously indulgent treat - my fave flavours would have to be the banana milk, peanut butter, salted caramel, and most recently a special which was cinnamon flavoured. Smooth, creamy and decadent - yum! I'm usually a cup over cone kinda girl, but the waffle cones here are just too good to pass up. Be prepared to queue, but rest assured that it's worth the wait!
If you don't get the salted caramel gelato, just kill yourself now to save yourself from making the biggest mistake of your miserable, pathetic life. It's perfect.
Really yummy Gelato, i had the special popcorn flavor and it was sooo yummy it mush be illegal! !! I also tried the choc mint, it was really good and it tates like they use real mint not a fake flavor. Definitely worth a go. Big downfall was the service could be so much better and a smile would not kill anyone. Shame.

best gelato I have ever had in Melbourne. Absolutely delicious flavour . Always want to get more to eat . So be smart to order two scoops once, because when you finish one scoop you always want another bite. 😂Although I am not a real fan of icecream I always buy some when I pass the store.
One of my favorite gelato places! Got my eyes on it when they were doing pop up shop next to Melbourne uni~ I reckon it is definitely on the top3 list for best gelato in Melbourne!

Delicious post-brunch snack! Feed the child within with a dollop of nutella on top of your ice cream! Had to try the salted caramel flavour which was delicious! Hard to go wrong with ice cream. The only reason this place isn't a 5.0 is because the staff weren't very polite and I felt I was being a burden to them whilst I was figuring out my order and there wasn't anyone else in the store...
Absolutely amazing. Best icecream I've had that wasn't home made. The icecream is so creamy and served at the perfect consistency. Its very much like home made icecream produced from a custard base. Flavours are more conservative than messina but the ice cream itself is better for sure. Love it!
Amazing salted caramel gelato! One of the best I've ever had in Melbourne. Consistency is just lovely and the serving was generous, priced at $4 I'd say that's very reasonable. My sister just loves the salted caramel with the nutella sauce and she can't stop raving about it. I tried the salted caramel with nutella on my most recent visit and I can confirm it was AMAZING. Must try other flavours on my next visit!
HUGE servings of ice cream- I felt a little ill after as I probably shouldn't have indulged as much as I did, but I couldn't help myself because woah, those flavours are so wonderful! My partner said he found it hard to choose a flavour due to the chalkboard menu, because it made it hard to visualise what they were going to look like. I personally liked the decor and the cute old timey menu, but the music was a bit too loud and I worry about the poor girls working there for hours on end damaging their hearing.
I tried all the milk-based favors and all I want to say they are really wonderful, that's the reason you always see a long queue for the gelato. The dense and milky flavor gives u a strong sense of sweetness and satisfaction. Also, the chips inside can always cheer u up.

My visit to Pidapipó that's located in Lygon St, Carlton is uncountable. Everytime I went to this ice cream store, it was always packed with so many people. I can't stop ordering the pistachio flavour of ice cream thats also topped with Nutella toppings everytime I visit this store :) In my opinion, this pistachio flavour is rich in flavour and also not too sweet as well.
One of the great gelato shops.People were friendly;the ice cream was an awesome texture and taste too! Tried the nutella swirl with extra nutella as well as raspberry swirl.Affordable as well as yummy definitely the best combonation!
Definitely some of the best gelato around - so smooth and creamy yet also light in texture. This store is very busy though, so the whole experience is rushed and chaotic. Since they are so busy they seem to be running out of flavours all the time... often it's just being made and not yet done. I know they are crazy busy, but service needs to be more consistent. We got single scoops in a cup and the serving sizes were vastly different, which was a bit annoying. We also took three 1L tubs away. All flavours were incredibly delicious and the gelato top notch. Service just needs to be more consistent.

Tried their Pistachio and Pineapple flavours. The pistachio flavour was rich and creamy while the pineapple flavour was tangy and tasted just like the fruit! Loved both flavours and would definitely be back to try other flavours such as Bacio, Banana Milk, Coconut, etc. I would patronise the shop even more frequently if they could make more fruity flavours, as the pineapple flavour was really good!
Had the Bacio, pistachio and Nutella swirl and it certainly did not disappoint. Lines out the door in the middle of winter speaks for itself. Yum!
If you don't know what to get at Pidapipo, go with their Nutella Gelato you can never go wrong with Nutella! It is to die for! Well it used to be light and less milky and creamy, I used to be head over heels for it! Somehow it has gotten thicker and heavier than before, it's still as yumm though.
There's always queue but you won't have to wait for long. There are a few seats outside but don't worry if you can't get any. Walk along Lygon Street, burn some calories along the way and make yourself feel less guilty 😉. Price wise, it's not as expensive as N2 but rather steep in comparison to Gelato Messina.
This is the best gelato store in my opinion. I tried many gelato stores including Messina in Brunswick which I find pretty good as well. It's probably just personal taste for its simple flavors in Pidapipo which made life simple to choose which to get. Messina has an alchemy of flavors which makes things just a little more complex for a simple gelato.
Worth the queue! Very quick service. Amazing choices and the delicious ice cream. The waffle cones smell and taste amazing and the nutella fountain thing is hypnotic. The ice cream is smooth and creamy and delicious. Reasonably priced too

This may sound crazy but I personally prefer indulging in Ice cream during winter. Why? Despite the satisfying cooling contrast against the scorching Melbourne heat, I dislike the fact that it melts. However, in winter I can casually sit back and enjoy these beautiful creations. One well known place to find these treasures is Pidapipo, located on the little Italy of Melbourne – Lygon st. I’m not sure what drew me into this place. Was it the customers walking out with an ecstatic look on their face, or was it the huge organised line full of eager customers? Well, maybe because it had the word ‘Gelateria’ lit up in neon. But either way, it obviously appeared to stand out than most other Gelaterias.
Softness of the gelato makes it best gelato in Melbourne. Salted caramel and coffee tasted like how they should be, flavoursome soft ice cream. Banana milk is like banana smoothies, and nutella swirl was alright. Cute pinky decoration and you should expect a long queue on a busy night.
Can you decide? With flavours rotating daily on the blackboard, it hard call to make. My comrade thought that pre-tasting should not be allowed, and wouldn't include it in his ice-cream business model. I however had three samples before I pulled the trigger and flashed out on a minimum $4 one scoop purchase. I could afford more, but didn't want to overload my synapses with too much of this delish real icey-creamy. It's the texture that I love.
Awesome gelato! Having pidapipo's gelato is such a treat in any season. Although the range of flavours are mostly typical, they all taste fabulous. Prices are also quite reasonable; $6 for two scoops always tempt me!
Tried their heavenly salted caramel flavour, chai cardamom and banana+coconut flavour - they were all really unique.
None of the flavours I've tried so far were overpowering/too sweet, which left me wanting for more and more with each bite (or lick).
Will keep coming back to this gem!

Wow - the ice cream is amazing. So many unique flavors to choose from that you wouldn't find elsewhere. I wouldn't suggest the hot Nutella if you get a cone though, a pitiful amount for the $1 you pay! Not sure if you'd get more in a cup. Go early before the dinner rush. We were there about 5.45. Every other night we went past at about 6.30 and the queue was out the door.
Could go head to head with the best gelaterie in Italy. Definitely the best in town. I am now a happy Italian in Melbourne!!! Buonissimo!!!
Good prices for good gelato. The flavours aren't exotic or totally exceptional but nevertheless, the gelato tasted very fresh and authentic. Raspberry swirl is a good one to have, but a definite favorite of mine is the coconut. Two scoops is always worth it for only $6!
The dark chocolate fondant sorbet is so dark and intense, yet not too bitter, and it went perfectly with my creamy, but not sickly, coconut! I did find it a bit unusual that there was a maximum of three tasters, given that places like Messina's encourage as many as you would like, but given the quality of the ice-cream, I completely understand why they don't want to be giving too much away for free! However, the second time I came, I was unfortunately less impressed, as the watermelon sorbet is far too sweet, and it tastes mainly of sugar. The peanut butter is good, but the watermelon drowned out its intense flavour on my second visit unfortunately.
We stumbled across Pidapipo and so the kids scored a late afternoon gelato break. There were lots of flavours, with one scoop for $4 or 2 scoops for $6. It was a lovely Spring day and there was a line out the front shortly after we got there!
One of the top ice creamery places in Melbourne. Right up there with Messina. The flavours are super creamy, but not overly sweet and the prices are more affordable. Will come back to try all the flavours! Definitely recommend. Pistachio (1 scoop) $4. So much pistachio flavour. Best pistachio ice cream ever. 9.5/10
A scoop of the Bacio (Chocolate + Hazelnut) was one of the best ive had in a long time. Would definitely go back for more. The Milk
chocolate and the dark chocolate flavors were pretty bloody amazing too. Its a tad bit sweeter than some quality places but overall i find it really tasty. Slightly over priced for the amount of Gelato. 4 bucks a scoop which is skillfully placed in an elevated cup, so on the outside it looks big but on the inside due to the elevated bottom theres not much u can scoop into it. Apart from that all good. A Must recommend place!
Introducing to you one of the finest gelato places in town, Pidapipo. The owner, Lisa Valmorbida had many years of experience working in Melbourne's best restaurants. She also attended Carpigiani Gelato University in Italy where she refined her gelato making skills there. These gelatos are handmade daily, and stored in stainless steel pozzetti, which are the tubs above that has an air mixer used to keep the gelato temperature even. At Pidapipo we get the best of Italy and quality is definitely assured. Its not rational to eat gelato in the cold this winter period so we had them to take away. The store has limited seats inside, but more outside.
After their original popular stint as a pop up, Pidapipo is here to stay and has been thriving since its opening just before last year’s Christmas. Ensuring that everything is made of the highest quality ingredients, owner Lisa Valmorbida, has sourced ingredients from local and Italian producers to make sure you’re getting the real deal. Unlike Messina and many other Gelaterias in Melbourne, Pidapipo’s Gelatos are hidden inside their stainless steel entrapments to keep the air out so that they’re at their best once the gelato hits your tastebuds (it’s also the “Roman” way…or so I’ve heard). We went at 12:30, so it had only just opened for the day, and while we were being served, a queue had already started forming. The place has an authentic Italian gelato vibe, with gelato being served in steel pots and mostly devoid of mix-ins.I asked for recommendations, which I took on board and ordered a 2 scoop cup ($6) with pistachio and salted caramel. They seem to have provided much more of the first flavour than the second for both my friend and I. However, I was not complaining since their pistachio was very good - very creamy but still containing that nutty flavour. The server warned me that the salted caramel was a bit more runny than usual, since they had only just opened and it was not quite ready, but I did not switch flavours and still really enjoyed it.
Pipapipo is a new addition to the Lygon Street ice cream/gelato strip and in a prime position across the road from Cinema Nova. You can’t miss it because there is a big red neon sign proclaiming ‘gelateria’ in the window. According to this fascinating article, you can generally judge the quality of gelati from 15 feet, without actually smelling, touching or tasting the product. You just need to look for a couple of things:

This is the most amazing gelato I've ever tried. No matter what flavour, creamy or fruity, the texture is unbelievably smooth. This takes ice cream to a whole new level.
Got coconut flavour and tasted the banana milk. Better than Messina. Not as crowded. Servings are more generous. Not as many flavours but quality is on par. Definitely will come again.

After dinner one night I decided I had to finally try Pidapipó as it always seems quite popular. Like all gelato shops in Carlton there was a line out the door but thankfully I didn't have to wait too long.
I ordered the Fior di Latte and it was such a clean, fresh tasting gelato with a beautifully creamy texture-definitely a winner in my books.
I am eager to come back to try the Nutella fountain!
After a botched attempt at obtaining gelati at Brunetti's due to its perchance for attracting queue jumpers (OH THE ANGST) I felt very wretched and hard done by (I know, only the most seriousness of issues will be dealt with on this platform) before my eyes landed on the glory that was this luminescent neon sign as an answer to my benediction (HALLELUJAH!).
The melon and strawberry are my favourites. I think they change flavours from time to time if I'm not mistaken. One of the gelato shops where I'll be tempted to get one despite how cold I am feeling...
Personally, I think this is the best gelato shop in Melbourne. The Nutella, Bacio, and Pistachio flavour are top of the lists! The gelato is so soft and its just melt right in your mouth. Love it!

Amazing. Wandered past Baby (pizza joint in Richmond) on Sunday and saw a super cute cart peddling gelato. Grabbed the salted caramel and holy shiz, if this isn't a manna from heaven then I don't know what is. It's the best sugary goodness I've ever stuffed in my cake hole. Better than that other food of the gods, Messina. I'll be back next Sunday for sure.
I'd like it more when all the flavours are available. I’m giving this place a “Like” vote even though on the day I stopped in, they were out of all but three vanilla-based ice cream flavours due to some sort of equipment failure. But how could I not like a place that provided ice cream on a hot December day? The amaretto had some nice bits of crumbled biscuit blended into it. It was the same ice cream base that made up my fior di latte scoop, though. The ice cream wasn’t as dense as the other gelaterias further south on Lygon Street, but it wasn’t as airy as commercial schlock like Peter’s. At $6 for a two-scoop cone, the price wasn’t outrageous. The staff was bearing up well in the face of their supply problems and a throng of unhappy customers. Most of the scoopers had cute Italian accents, too. I’d still go for Casa del Gelato or Dolce Freddo if I had to choose one place to have a frozen treat on Lygon Street, though. They have more choices and better gelato than here.

Pidapipó could be the best gelato place in Melbourne right now. Just a shame they ran out of the honeycomb fingers. Having been regulars at Gelato Messina and Helados Jauja which we think serve up wonderful gelato and ice cream, Pipapipó certainly gives them a run for their money.
Velvety smooth ice-cream. No gimmicks here... a minimal selection of flavours to choose from, but the texture of the gelati is so very smooth, creamy and velvety. And the serves are generous. Well worth the trip across town. The pistachio possibly the best I have ever had. Not to be missed.

Looking Forward to Visiting Again. Have heard a lot of great things about Pidapipó and finally got my chance to drop in en route to Cinema Nova. Tried the Salted Caramel, found the flavour very intense and enjoyable! I'm a big fan of Gelato Messina and I suppose some people wouldn't like Pidapipó as much as it tends to go for simple flavours, rather than the more fun/gimmicky mix-ins and such Messina is known for - but really, while both dealing with gelato, the two stores are different beasts, so not easily comparable. Pidapipó does simple, great-tasting gelato really well. Service was efficient, staff were friendly, and I really enjoyed the store's layout. No complaints - looking forward to many a future visit! :-)

The salted caramel, it's beyond words. Amazing, the best I've ever had. By far. So fresh, intense amazing flavours, they change the flavours regularly. Also have pistachio, have pineapple, have lime, have apricot. Have them all. The staff are also very kind and slim. How can they be slim.

Gelato bliss. So fresh and so natural - just the way gelato should be. We tried several of the sorbetto flavours - grapefruit, melon, watermelon and mojito - and all of them were to die for. The women serving were a little unhelpful - asked what type of melon was in the melon flavour (turns out it was rockmelon) - to be told it's simply melon, water and sugar, but didn't offer a tasting, and then proceeded to have a conversation with her colleague in Italian while I was waiting. Despite the lukewarm service it is the best, most authentic Italian gelato I've had in Melbourne.

Wonderful: not because it's new, not because some patrons would suggest it's the trendy place to go, but because they actually deliver with what they sell. Vibrant, different , true-to-fresh flavours and perfectly textured gelati and sorbetti. Loved it.

Loved all the flavours I have tried so far. They have different ones each day. The infused mint was a standout, and quite unexpected. It was recommended by the staff, and it was stunning. The pistachio was also very good, as was the zabaglione and the gianduja. I could go on...
So good!. The gelato here is wonderful. You can tell that a lot of effort and care have been put into creating the perfect balance in all the flavours. Most importantly, the thing I appreciate most is that their gelato is NOT cloyingly sweet like all the other places. Can finally enjoy good gelato in Melbourne!
After exploring Melbourne for great ice cream for many years I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the best ice cream in Melbourne. The service is quick and very friendly, but it is the taste which is unprecedented. Try them all, but to date my favs are fior di latte, pistachio and chocolate.
Congratulations to the team at Pidapipo on bringing such a quality product to Melbourne.

It was an unusually hot day for Autumn and I decided to pop into Pidapipo for some gelato. I’d heard some people say it may not be permanent so I thought I’d better come try while it’s in such a convenient location! After a few samples I settled on hazelnut and pistachio. Pidapipo has been opened for just over a year now. What started off as a little pop up shop on Faraday St, Lisa Valmorbida garnered the interested of gelato fanatics and foodies a like with her authentic hand made gelato. Now Pidapipo is permanently open on Lygon St, Melbourne’s little Italian precinct competing against other gelateria and Italian dessert and cake shops along the street. Serving up a limited range of flavours until sold out daily, the gelateria has certainly made quite the name for itself. And the reasons are quite simple. It simply is that good. At Pidapipo, you can choose to have your gelato in a cup or cone and it won’t cost you any different. With its simplistic and rustic design, the glass window front allows for a lot of natural lighting. There are small round tables scattered inside and just outside the gelateria for you to hobble around and enjoy your frozen scoops of goodness. As you enter the shop there is a chalkboard on the right which lists all the flavours available on the day. Better get in early then if you don’t want to miss out on your favourites. Gelato flavours change seasonally, so don’t be surprised to rock up one day to find that one flavour you so craved for to be missing. I took a long time to figure out what flavour I wanted to buy and when I finally did, I was told that they had run out of it (Christmas pudding). There was a but enough to just taste test it left, so I was asked to pick another flavour. In the end I went for banoffee to substitute my dessert flavoured gelato and chose mango, because it’s simply just one of my favourite all time flavours. The Christmas pudding, banoffee and mango…all of it was just amazing. You can really notice that the gelato has a deep flavour that is just right and so very satisfying. It’s like Gelato Messina, but a little less commercialized. Both of which are really good in their own ways. Pidapipo is much closer to the CBD than Messina, so I’d be more inclined to visit this gelateria

Verdict? Beautiful flavour and texture. Simpler than Gelateria Primavera, but creamier as well. Overall, we're super happy to add this gelateria to our Carlton favourites, and look forward to the next excuse to treat ourselves!

These gelatisans really know what they're doing. Each flavour that our friends and I got screamed the true and natural flavours of the ice cream we were getting... Real gelato. Whether it's something as simple as a pear flavoured gelato, the flavours are really pronounced yet refined, which is something that I really like about the ice cream here.
Traditional flavours such as hazelnut and tiramisu sit beneath silver pozettis lids, next to more experimental options such as coconut rice pudding. Fresh fruit-based sorbets are the best way to beat the heat, and toppings are available for those who wish to indulge further.
Some of my favourite flavours of the night included the peanut butter, which is just a burst of flavour in the mouth and intensely creamy; the pistachio, one of my favourite’s in town, which actually tastes of nuts with a lovely strong flavour; and Christmas pudding.
Yeah, you head me right. Christmas pudding. All cinnamon, raisins and rich spices. It actually tasted like Christmas. We had so much of it they ran out the night we were there!
Gelatos are absolute yum! Had watermelon, mojito (non alcoholic) and mango.
We also had dairy range flavours - peanut butter, Nutella and pistachio. They were nice too but a bit too creamy and milky.
Recommend the sorbet range more
Hands down the best gelato icecream in Melbourne. Super yummy. Incredible flavors. I had Bacio. Loved it! ❤ Will be back for more many times over!
When in Melbourne it's important to always pay a visit into your nearest pidapipo branch for some quality ice cream. With dairy and dairy free options there'll be a flavor to meet anyone's taste. Staff on today were flat out busy, hard working and never complained. Great experience for all their customers.

Awesome gelato! Great prices too, which honestly explains why there is always a line. One of our scoopers were very generous, other not so much which explains the inconsistency in size. Price difference between 1 scoop and 2 scoops is only $1!
🍦 Yoghurt and Fig + Mascarpone and Berries ($6.80) - The dried figs used were so sweet in my opinion, do which the yoghurt was more sour so it offsets the sweet figs. Otherwise, it’s a great flavour! Mascarpone and berries flavour was my favourite! Tasted just like eating cheesecake.
🍦 Banana Milk + Pistachio ($6.80) - Banana milk gelato teas very interesting, thought it would taste more like the artificial flavouring you get in supermarket bought Banana Milk, but no! Be prepared for a very natural banana flavour and scent - which was so beautiful and the sweetness was perfect. The pistachio flavour was slightly underwhelming, think it could’ve been stronger.
🍨 Watermelon + Strawberry (vegan, $6.80) - Strawberry was sour but you can tell that it is made from real strawberries, not flavouring. Watermelon was very nice and refreshing, loved both!
🍨 Peanut butter, caramel chocolate and malt crumble + Mint with white chocolate chips - both flavours were really nice! Peanut butter flavour was really good and i do appreciate that it wasn’t subtle. Never had mint with white choc chips, it’s always dark or milk but it was great with white chocolate chips!
🍨 Coffee & Brownie + Salted Caramel with Brownie and Spiced Caramel ($6.80) - love that both flavours were not overly sweet, especially with the salted caramel! Some places can execute their salted caramel to be mind numbingly sweet but not Pidapipo! It was so pleasant and easy to eat. The coffee & brownie flavour is a must try! Super strong coffee flavour and went so well with the chunks of brownies, so impressed!
🍨 Pistachio + Peanut butter, caramel chocolate and malt crumble ($6.80) - Pistachio flavour could be stronger, peanut butter was nice, not too sweet.
🍨 Hazelnut + Burnt Butter & Hot Cross Bun ($6.80) - Hazelnut flavour was okay, nothing crazy. Didn’t enjoy the burnt butter bits that much because it was super sticky and stuck to teeth, hot cross bun flavour was a bit overwhelming.
