Cute little place with good service. The food was enjoyable. We had the scallops, duck and steak. All were good. It got a little loud for a small place towards the end. Overall, a romantic place to come and have a good experience
Our family of 4 went for a special dinner at the end of our Melburne holiday, and the restaurant did not disappoint. Whilst not all traditional "French" food, the food was absolutely fantastic, and the service even better. My daughters have insisted we must come back next time we are in Melbourne.
This is probably my 15th visit. Perfect pre-theatre or post-work dinner or romantic and quiet date night. Big vintage poster on the wall and old Parisian decor.
Veal Schnitzel (3.25/5): Requested medium rare but came out medium done. Flavours work well in the crumb however the texture could be crispier - a bit oily.
Potato Gnocchi (5/5): The only vegetarian main - I order this every time đ
Steak Frites (4/5): Requested medium rare and cooked perfectly. Seasoned well.
Green Beans (5/5): Crunchy and sautĂ©ed to perfection. A vegetarianâs dream.
No room for it this time but I love the creme brûlée!
Celebrated my friendâs last day out before the delivery of her baby and really enjoyed the food. Service was also attentive as my friend broke a wine glass and they quickly replaced the food nearby fearing that there would be leftover shards of glass in the food. Only disappointment in this establishment is that they refused the use of Zomato Gold as we did not produce that before we were seated. Will definitely remember this for the next time I visit and see if there is any difference in service/quality of food when using Zomato Gold.
First time using Zomato Gold đ€ and it was such a good deal. Their staff was lovely and helpful as I was trying to figure how to use the 1+1 deal. Wr also ordered fries as a side dish and dessert. Medium rare scotch fillet with the truffle sauce and the lot on top was nice
If we have another chance I would like to try bouillabaisse (it seems a lighter meal and a good match to the 39-degree weather outside!) Food was filling and the bill did not break the bank. Like the jazz music and the ambience - lighting was dark and the aircon is eye catching đ
location is oh so very convenient.
Definitely a Zomato Gold or just a bistro you DONâT want to miss! đ„ł
FOOD: We went in a group of 4 and we ordered the gnocchi, duck & pea risotto, signature bisque and the steak! My absolute favourite would have to be the duck & pea risotto! I thought it was done BEAUTIFULLY and was so full of wonderful flavours and also a generous portion! The steak was also excellent and there was no sauce but it clearly didnât need it because it was cooked to perfection and went so well as it was! The gnocchi was also really delicious and generous with the portion and great for a vegetarian option! The bisque is great for seafood lovers and people going for something lighter but still want to be filled up because it was LOADED with seafood!
Bistro DâOrsay definitely do not skimp when it comes to quality OR quantity! The menu is simple but everything is done with so much skill and perfection. Definitely one of the best restaurants Iâve tried in the WHOLE of Melbourne!
The duck meat fell off the bone, it was juicy and well presented. Scotch fillet and wine for the boyfriend. The food was phenomenal. Could not say no to Pear Tatin for dessert. We arrived 15 minutes early and 5 minutes later, the show next door finished and the theatre crowd filled the bistro. It was an interesting sight to see. Overall the atmosphere was warm, lively and charming. The service was very good. We will be back to try the other food on the menu, perhaps for the Coq Au Vin, which I can only imagine will be as good as my experience with the Confit Duck Leg. Will return for another date night. -Review by Maryane
Ordered đ„©: scallop and prawn St Jacques, bouillabaisse, scotch fillet steak and lamb shoulder.
LIT đ„!: Bouillabaisse soup was delicious, warm and comforting.
However I enjoyed the St Jacques even more. That sauce is omg. It doesnât come with bread but you can ask for it on the side and mop up that creamy goodness.
I loved the perfectly medium rare scotch fillet. It almost melts in your mouth with a decent amount of truffle oil and Parmesan.
NOT SO LIT đ: the lamb shoulder. I thought it was going to knock socks off considering that itâs highlighted in the menu. The lamb looked incredible on the plate and putting my spoon through it, it just crumbled. However it wasnât consistently cooked through and we got some really dry bits, and the dish as a whole wasnât flavoursome as I felt the salsa verde was a bit stingy in portion.
But overall a great restaurant. Will come back to try more dishes! X
Found this little gem through Zomato Gold and what a great discovery. Nestled amongst the Paris end of Collins St is the dim lit little French restaurant. Tables are quite squeezy but the atmosphere is cosy and romantic. I absolutely loved the painted ceilings. We ordered the pate, scallops, steak, st jacques and creme brĂ»lĂ©e. The pate was super creamy although I wasnât a fan of the flavor. The scallops were cooked to perfection as was the steak. We ordered the scotch fillet which was very tender and juicy. The st Jacques which is kind of like a baked creamy garlic seafood remedy of prawns and scallops was amazing although a little salty for my liking. Finished off with a deliciously creamy creme brulee with a slightly burnt top to balance the sweetness with the bitterness. Service was also fantastic. Will definitely be back!

My friend and I visited this place for a nice steak lunch and as we entered the service was impeccable! We got the scotch fillet and the roasted lamb. Both utterly delicious! The cook was perfect on the steak and the red wine sauce with lentils was to die which came with the roasted lamb! Decent portion size. Slightly pricey for what you get but the food is delicious!
5-star service. The food and service are just what you'd expect from a classic French restaurant. The eye fillet was amazing and looked exactly like it in the picture on their website. The chips were cut into 'bar-shaped' chunks and fried to perfection. Soft on the inside, crunchy of the outside and seasoned to perfection. The roasted garlic just accentuated all the natural flavours of each component dish, together with the fastastic sauce. The complimentary serve of bread is perfect too. Chewy and soft with a crunchy crust.
If I had to point out a fault, it would only be that we were seated in a very awkward, tight spot in the corner. Not a big deal because the food is worth it.
Delicious French food and very friendly service. The seafood linguine was particularly good. Fantastic value for money too, as this restaurant is a Zomato Gold member! We almost couldnât believe it. We went on a Monday night and it was quite busy - says a lot about how much people love this place. Conveniently located near my workplace too - thanks for a wonderful meal, I will definitely be back!
I came here for the prawn and scallops st Jacques or the steak. Both are my favourites. Sometimes, I come here for the coffee. Good for special occasions or just before the show across the road. Been coming here for years. Never got disappointed
My score 4.0 stars. I took J here for a special occasion long lazy lunch a while ago. Restaurant fits in well with the old part of Collins St & the interior is faux Belle Epoque in style. Service was good, interesting wines by the glass & J loved the ambience. Standouts were Goat's cheese souffle (what's not to love) & Duck confit. If you can fit it in, they do a mean cheese board too. Not our idea of an everyday place, but a good way of treating yourself (or someone you care for)...
Little shop on Collins with great atmosphere and service. The staff were patient and professional and the food we ordered were spot on, highly recommend there famous seafood soup. Will be back again soon
Robustness, seniority and driven craft is what defines this place for me. Coffe is arrogant and attractive by knowing how the quality of their product is. You will leave the place with a sense of pride
I love this place.
My boyfriend and I have come here so many times!
We especially love the Charcuterie board and the Creme BrĂ»lĂ©eâs!!! These two are items we have to have every time we come.
Iâm also a fan of their Eye fillet steak, Gnocci and Confit duck. We probably try something new next we go, but those are always yummy same-olds for us.
Canât wait to come back to eat more delicious food!
Had the prawn soup from here and it was very flavorful and creamy. The chili pasta i had from here, I couldn't find any place that can make this flavor and so have been craving for it, hope they still have it there.
A wonderful restaurant in the heart of Melbourne. As soon as you step inside, you are transported into a typical dreamy French bistro in a quiet street in Paris. Collins St. traffic did not intrude.
The food was wonderful, my wifeâs Pate was smooth and tasty. My Steak Tartar was spectacular and the quail egg a surprise. Both our mains, the barramundi and the Veal Schnitzel were delicious and the portions generous.
But as good as the food was, it is the service that makes this restaurant stand out. From the moment we entered we felt welcome and pampered. The service was unobtrusive and all staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and professional. This was our first visit, but will not be our last. We have found our new favorite restaurant and will come back again.
Went here for my fiancé's Birthday and was not disappointed. Food portions were great, price felt fair and service was superb. The waiter was french and very friendly, especially after France had just won the world cup.
My favourite dish was the goat cheese soufflé while my fiancé loved the scallops and creme brulee. There seemed to be a string of regulars dining too on a Monday night which to me means it's a great place to dine.
What a great little place where service is at it best, wine is by the abundance and French food is cooked to perfection. We had a great time and thanks for a great night!!
Such a warm and romantic atmosphere to this restaurant, it's beautiful! The food is delicious, every mouthful is a pleasure. Dining here is an absolute treat.
Came here just for the creme brĂ»lĂ©e (apparently the best in Melbourne) and it was such a lovely surprise to also have the best cup of coffee Iâve had in a long time as well!!! Five stars guys - service was wonderful too đđ absolutely lives up to my very high expectations
Fantastic experience, wonderful food, exceptional service from a great restaurant. First time but definitely not the last. Highly recommend.
Excellent service! This restaurant makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. It's classic, timeless and beautiful. I would recommend. The service is really what makes it, and excellent customer experience.
Hands down the best Steak Tartare i have ever tried in my life. Been to Hell of the North, Rockpool Bar & Grill, Bistro Guillaume Melbourne and etc, but man this place makes a kick as steak tartare. I will definitely come back for more. No pictures unfortunately due to formal affair. Arrghhh. Keep it up guys. Please dont ever change it. Thanks âș
Had the most delightful steak et frites, modified perfectly for this poor gluten and dairy free sufferer. I can't wait to visit this restaurant again, the interior is absolutely stunning. The waiters (from France of course!) were excellent also. A memorable dining experience.
Had a lovely pre-show lunch here today. This is a cozy little restaurant with a small food menu and a large wine menu! Mushroom risotto was lovely and a perfect size. I had a glass of the french Rosé which was delicious. The staff and ambience was lovely. Very convenient for when you are going to the Regent for a show. They were reasonably busy so we did get rushed to order a bit. We were still waiting on two people from our group when we were asked to order. Though when they did arrive they ordered right away and the meals came out very quickly.
Right across the road from the Regent theatre and next door to the Atheneum, this place is perfect for a pre-theatre meal. They're used to it too, which means they're good at getting you in, fed and out before the show. Be organised and book though, because they fill up quickly.
When you walk in, it feels like you've stepped in to a bistro in Paris. You're transported. And I love that about this place.
The steak is delicious, served with fat chips. But the most recent time I visited I had the seafood pasta which was absolutely delicious! I recommend this place to people all the time, I have for years and everyone always tells me how pleased they were.
Very cute and cosy restaurant with lovely decor.  I have walked past this restaurant  hundreds of times and have never thought to pop in.  We had a comedy show on next door and thought eating here was the most convenient place to eat and we were glad we did.  The waiter staff were very attentive and helpful and their French accents added to the experience, they were lovely.  The food was excellent and we were a table of 6 with everyone happy with what was put in front of them.  I don't eat French food at all but after this experience I will be wanting to try other restaurants out there and even come back to this one as the menu was very good.
Details: only came here for dessert but my gosh was the creme brulee nice đ!!! I loved the crispy topping. Worth every cent!
Came out in reasonable time and staff were very friendly. Lovely decor inside too. Would love to come back and have a meal and make a longer review!
Gorgeous setting love all the dark wood and the cosy European feel. The service is first rate floor staff were impeccable. Lovely to have a good selection of half bottles when ur partner sadly doesn't enjoy a tipple as much as my good self. Mushroom risotto enjoyed by my son was gorgeous and my barramundi cooked to perfection. Been here many times for a coffee but this was a dinner first shall most certainly return
TrĂšs trĂšs bon. DĂ©licieuse.... A friend recommended this little place and its a real find. Great attentive service. Warm mellow decor. Fillet stake was undeliverably delicious, covered in brown Mushrooms and Parmesan with truffle oil. Groups of people enjoying themselves, a lovely vibe. Highly recommended.
Nice interior but very average quality food for the price. We waited for almost an hour for the mains to come and the duck leg dish was very dry. Steak was also of poor quality. Â Small serves.
Had dinner here last night! Served by a lovely waiter with exceptional service! I followed his recommendations and was so happy with everything. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert! So we will be back!!!
Delicious food, fantastic service and a really lovely ambience at night. The waiters were very attentive and the food came out quickly. Will definitely be coming back!
Was invited here for lunch and what a nice surprise! I had never heard of this place before but this is a lovely authentic French bistrot. A good selection of typical French classics and a real French cosy bistrot atmosphere. Goats cheese soufflé was excellent, duck confit really nice (although would be better with crispy skin!), French fries were great, crÚme brûlée absolutely delicious. Extensive wine list and great service too. Will definitely be back when I miss France! Bravo et merci!
Another personal old faithful (see The European) that's been around for years, this traditional French restaurant is a particular favourite for that special occasion.
Perfectly located for theatres and the city on Collins near to the Swanston St junction, d'Orsay offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.Â
Dark wood panelling, trompe l'oeil enlivening the ceilings, original French posters and big picture windows and discreet lighting create a snug, warm and welcoming atmosphere in what is a surprisingly small restaurant.
It's another of those restaurants that knows its niche and demographics - traditional French food incredibly well cooked and served. No fads, nothing flash. Pommes et frites are fabulous (and one of the cheaper options) but then the bouillabaisse is sublime, as is the duck. Actually - never had a single complaint about any of the food here! Love it.
It's not a cheap option but then it's not ridiculously expensive - 2 courses and a glass of wine will knock you back around $60 per person. Trouble is it's difficult to restrict yourself to two courses and one glass... :) (At least wine by the bottle ranges between $45 and $400). And they do do pre-theatre dinner specials.
In a wonderful location, and comfortable atmosphere inside. We spent a mild Friday night here with friends to check out the French cuisine. Lovely wait staff. The steak tartare was delicious to start out with as we sipped on our kir royales. For our mains, the beef bourguignon was thoroughly...
Located in the prominent Collins st opposite Princess Theatre, Bistro d'Orsay is a 19 yr old French restaurant w lovely wall arts. Ordered their soufflé (needs to be patient as it takes about 20-30mins wait) and steak frites. It was authentic and delicious. I enjoyed their French fries and lovely soufflé. Steak was ok.. Will be back to try other entree dishes.. Still prefer Bistro Guillaume and Mr Mason for French Cuisine.
Just the best place to have dinner prior to an evening event in the city. Fabulous quality, great service......it's just very simple! Choose from the classic French bistro menu and a great selection of local and French wines....
A little trip to Paris in Melbourne. This place has never failed to deliver outstanding food and great service. Any opportunity to come here is a welcome one.
Bistro d'Orsay is a popular pre-show dinner venue for theatre goers in Melbourne, serving French style bistrot food. The Trough's significant other swears by it, and who is The Trough to disagree? I have fond recollections of the goat cheese soufflé and last night the various dishes were of a very good standard. The steak frites did what a good simple bistro steak dish does and satisfied; no complaints about the barramundi or beef ragout either and a shared chocolate fondant dessert was excellent. The service was also excellent - friendly and attentive without being intrusive and maintained at that level even as the place filled up. Sometimes it is the little things, such as the waiter who politely offered to store our bags away for us when we arrived. It was a full house and very busy so not surprising we had to remind the staff about retrieving our bags on departure. The waiter who had first taken them was going past with some drinks. He instantly apologised for forgetting them, parked the drinks on the bar and got them for us. Bravo!
Conveniently located beside the Atheneum & opposite the Regent theatre a surprisingly delicious discovery. Delightful French waitress, quick service, would like to return in less of a hurry to see a show, to enjoy the menu at leisure.
Gorgeous and quaint little restaurant on Collins Street.
We stopped in there late on a weekend after a quick look on the menu outside. The restaurant is quite intimate, yet despite the close tables and surprisingly more staff than I would have expected, it works well.
We ordered a couple of glasses of Pinot, the Potato Gnocchi, the Spatchcock, and a side of fries.
The Potato Gnocchi was nice, but lacked a uniform flavour throughout and the bottom of the gnocchi was a little over-fried.
The Spatchcock had a lovely flavour, and the fries were perfect.
We also had the creme brulee which was also nice.
While the food could have been better, such is the power of good hospitality and it is likely we will return.
Had dinner at Bistro d'Orsay before heading to the Ballet on Friday night. Love the traditional French atmosphere and the friendly service! Whilst not necessarily the best French food in Melbourne the food is tasty and well executed. For entree I ordered the scallops with cauliflower puree and pancetta. The dish was pleasant but a little bland. For main I had the snapper with asparagus, peas and roast potatoes in a beurre blanc sauce. Â The fish was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful crispy skin. Â Overall a great option for pre-theatre dining.
Outstanding .. Is the only word. I don't know much about French food - other than they make a damn fine toast (yeah I know French toast isn't French .. Don't send hate mail). But I know that if a restaurant claims a certain cuisine and is full of people from the country of said cuisine, then they're doing something right. This place had a stack of French people in it and they (like me) had a great time and clearly enjoyed their food.
The ambience and interior is classic and detailed, but does it without being in your face about it. It could just be a bistro in France.
The food was magnificent - every dish was bursting with flavour, wonderfully presented, and substantial in quantity. I won't be hungry for a month (but could have the Tarte Tartin for breakfast tomorrow if offered.
The service was wonderful and he staff were delightful and friendly and helpful (and mostly French), and incredibly patient with the table full of dinky-di Aussies next to us.
Definitely a must visit if you're in town.
Great place , fantastic food and great staff.
Service is excellent .

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner before a show and we loved it. The food was so delicious. I had the goats cheese soufflé and he had gnocchi. Both meals were so tasty and delicate. However dessert was our favourite! We shared a pear tarte tatin and a crÚme brulee which were to die for!!! We loved the atmosphere of the place and the service was also very good. The only down side was that we booked a week before going but they didn't have our names registered for some reason. Overall a great experience! We will definitely go again.
Fantastic quaint little corner. I love the dark oak fit-out and French service. If you don't have any heart for ambience, try the dessert cause you could die- actually dead with a funeral!
This wine list is ridiculous, whoever acquired them needs to be given a pile of money!
I'm here as often as I can.
One love P2p
A great evening all round. Booked a table in advance, we were late and they were kind enough to hold the table for us on a very busy night. Service was warm & attentive, nothing was overlooked. Food was great, a hearty meal- prices are spot on. We will always come here before the theatre now, what a treat. Thank you.
It was a fantastic meal â not cheap by any means but well worth it. Itâs a great place for a special occasion but make sure you book, especially on weekend when it gets quite full.
It was certainly a great dining experience at Bistrot d'Orsay at the cost of around $130 for the two of us, but absolutely worth it!
One night, we all had 'capacity' to head out of the office for dinner, and took a stroll to Bistrot D'Orsay. I was initially tempted to order their beautiful bouillabaisse, but then I remembered that they also did a gorgeous gnocchi. At the final moment, I disciplined myself to try something interesting and new and chose the beetroot risotto with spinach and crispy pancetta. As weird as that sounds, the combination of flavors turned out to be very harmonious. The risotto was the right consistency, and there was plenty of spinach in there to make me feel good about eating it. I suppose I would have liked another piece of cripy pancetta to accompany the dish (but that's only because of my unhealthy infatuation with anything worth their salt, literally). The next day we headed to Degraves and I had to settle for this rather ordinary gnocchi to satisfy my unfulfilled gnocchi cravings. The four cheese sauce was alright, but the gnocchi was too soft. I would have preferred quality over quant
Delicious! Handsome waiters too.. Really good. In every way!! It isn't the kind if place for vouchers or club cards. Don't be scabby just go and enjoy it! Celebrate it for yum food and handsome staff! Bliss!!
Excellent service & even better food!
Went for husbands birthday dinner.
Delicious food and attentive service. The confit duck and pear tarte tartin were the highlight. Portion sizes are great value for money. Will be back for sure!
Service we received from the gentleman with glasses was excellent, he was very helpful with our wine choices too, the food we ordered was very nice too, but not mind blowing. We felt the prices were very reasonable here too. Lovely dining room-unless you booked late as we did and get the table right near the kitchen-however-we enjoyed out dinner here-and while too full to try the deserts we would definitely consider returning here again-as the service was top notch! (We ordered the Goats Cheese soufflé and Scallops as entrees, and had the Duck and the Steak as mains-all very well done.)
A memorable meal! Could not fault a thing. The service is impeccable as is the food. 10 out of 10 for each course and the coffee is to die for
Like. My wife and I ate dinner at this restaurant on 26 March 2014.
Very nice food, prices OK too, by Melbourne/Sydney standards. Service was good too. The only comment is that cuisine is closer to Northern Italian than to French (as the name implies). We love Italian food so it's not a negative point, rather an observation! But if you wanted something closer to pure French cuisine you may be disappointed with the choice of dishes. In any case - recommended if you love Italian or French cuisine.
Superbe !. Excellent service, amazing food ! Everything in this restaurant has been made to make you happy. We had a very, very nice evening! A huge thank you for that.
I absolutely recommend this place, I wish I could go every day !
Best dessert ever. Lovely setting & the food is sublime. My husband started with the scallops & had duck for main. I had the seafood linguine (superb - fresh seafood & big juicy prawns) & then the chocolate delice for dessert. Amazing doesn't come close to describing the dessert. We truly enjoyed our meal & will be back. Our only (minor) complaint is that while our water glasses were refilled promptly, we did have to ask for more wine.
Awesome!. In a word AWESOME! Celebrated our anniversary here recently and loved everything about this place...service, food and wine were all great! See you again soon!
Special dinner. Wanted a French Restaurant in the city and despite Bistrot D'Orsay being in the spot years I had barely noticed it. It was a celebratory dinner a couple of weeks ago and we were not disappointed. Food, service and more importantly the wine list was great. Would highly recommend it and will be back for more special moments.
Love this restaurant. Never had a bad meal here. It's always good. The service is usually outstanding too. I usually go for lunch with others as we did yesterday. We had our usual excellent time. I had bruschetta and risotto. Both were outstanding. Really tasty and beautifully presented. Loved the wine too. The waiter we had (Kyle) is outstanding. He may be the best I've ever seen. Friendly, efficient and remembers everything. As I say, l love this place as it's what good restaurants should be. I and can't wait to return.
I'm from adelaide and after recommendation from a friend I decided to give the Bistrot a go. The service the ambiance and the food were all very good, my girlfriend had the fish 'special' which was cooked perfectly and my beef cheek was literally falling off my fork it was so tender. A very nice night.
I was taken here for my birthday and I couldn't have been happier about dining here. It is classy and elegant, has delicious french food, a charismatic waiter and a fantastic wine list. A must restaurant, particularly if you are heading to the Regent Theatre. Just make sure you book and definitely do yourself a favour and order the creme brûlée!
Loved it. Goats cheese soufflé was wonderfully light, beef cheek gorgeous. Creme brûlée amazing. $150 for two with wine, but first class!
Went on a wednesday night, pleasantly busy without being overly crowded. The staff were very friendly and helpful and food utterly delicious. I had the beef cheek which melted in the mouth.
Having worked on Collins St for years (at another restaurant), I've walked past this place hundreds of times and for some reason never eaten here.
For my birthday this year, my girlfriend bought me tickets to King Kong (across the road) and organised a booking here.
It was great! Attentive, friendly service and delicious food. We shared the pùté, then had the pork belly and scallops. For main it was the Gnocchi and the Duck. We probably went overboard having dessert as well but birthdays only come around once a year so we had the chocolate cake and I think a pear or apple tart. 4 courses all before 8pm! Given how I hadn't heard much about this place, I was pleasantly surprised at how great the food was.
Wine list reasonably priced as well considering the area (cheaper than where I work for the same wines)
Would definitely recommend as a pre-theatre option or just a lovely dinner.
Went on a rainy Monday night without booking. It was pleasantly busy. The ambience of the place is brilliant. Definite cosy, French vibe the waiter was lovely and attentive despite having to help a lot of patrons. Service was quick and oh my, delicious. I had the eye fillet medium rare and it was perfection. The sauce is quite heavy but compliments it perfectly. My friend had the beef bourgiugnon. The beef was melt in your mouth tender. I would recommend ordering a side salad with either as they aren't vegetable laden in any sense but the taste was sensational. We shared a pear tarte with almond ice cream for dessert and it was heaven. Perfect as it wasn't too sweet and the serving size was very generous. Delicious coffee to boot.
This place only takes cash or credit and it is very pro-wine. The wine list is like a novella. If you're looking for fantastic food in a great atmosphere, this is for you. Just bring a lot of money.
Great experience. We ate here during a business trip in late May 2013. We called up at around 6 pm on a WED and got a table for 2 at 7:45 pm. Very small but cozy and eclectic surroundings. Certainly a "slice of Paris" in Melbourne, which is a nice thing to experience.
We wanted to take advantage of the award-winning wine list. It is unusual to find French wines on an Australian wine list, so we ordered a Bordeaux for $80. The wine was excellent, but I have to say I found that bottle online later for a fraction of the price we paid. Restaurant markups on wine are nothing new, so this cannot be considered a serious complaint. It was No. 2 de Petrus Gaia, and was very good.
We started with the polenta-dusted calamari, which was not great - a bit too chewy and rich. Best thing about the dish was the nice salad and dressing on the side. I would not recommend it. Next course: I had the special - ragout with homemade gnocchi. It was excellent - no complaints. My dining companion had the eye fillet - also excellent.
The restaurant was busy but staff were attentive. Finally, at the end of the night, we needed a taxi. So our waitress came out into the street and hailed one for us! Certainly the first time we have experienced that in Australia!
All in all, a wonderful experience. Highly recommended. I would go back again.
8 of us went on a sat night for a friends birthday , and it was just perfect the food, service, and atmosphere just felt so relaxed. I couldnt recommend this place more. Be prepared so spend a bit but totally worth it! C'est si Bon!
We've been here a couple of times now, and both times it been great. I had the steak (again) which was perfectly cooked and fat handout chips were good. Wife's vegetarian gnocchi was also excellent, not to oily like alot of places. Staff were also good. Wine list is perhaps a little expensive by the bottle, but the wines were very nice and good portions by the glass. Beetroot and goats cheese Soufflé for entree was also really nice, and I'm not a fan if Beetroot. Highly recommend.
HAd the bouillabaisse. Very good and thanks to iPhone spell check I actually was able to spell it. Good service. Pleasant. I dined alone.
Great little place accidentally stumbled across it and really enjoyed dinner with my partner, soufflé was amazing gnocchi was just as good! friendly staff, was in a tee shirt jeans and iam covered in tattoos ended up talking for ages..pretentious? No!
Nice Food, Great Ambience.. A romantic french restaurant with very good food and good service. The ambience is very quaint and intimate, definitely a good place for a couples dinner.
I Do Say.... This place is wonderful!!! So classy and perfect for a hearty meal before a Theatre show. The food is good quality and the service is friendly and tentative. You can dine on the footpath or inside (which I've done both). No complaints....by the way wonderful pastas & eye fillet :)
Good authentic Bistro style food, good service but the waiter should not try to pass himself as a Sommelier, (always be careful who you are taling to).
I was in need of a coffee fix and stumbled across this little doozie! I was also a bit peckish so decided to indulge in the creme brûlée which made me just melt! Very pricey however it was well worth it as it was the best IDE ever had! Highly recommend
Parisian cosiness. A friendly and knowledgeable waiter indulged my elderly father's garralousness without becoming patronising, which I always appreciate. Chairs and tables are VERY close together, giving that overcrowded Parisian feel that actually made me feel slightly nostaligic for about two minutes until I discovered that the old man couldn't hear me because of the din. Service was top notch amd food was outstanding. Went to three courses and glad I did: deconstructed Gin and Tonic dessert is a winner!
Food was good, lovely flavours, but not extremely filling. Service was ok, but had a rude waiter- didn't tell us about specials, snubbed us a few times and then turned his nose up at females ordering beer. Cosy and tasty but not perfect.
Very nice, a favourite for my wife and i. My wife and i just love going to bistrot d'orsay, such a nice spot, very comfy, food is always good, booze goes down well and atmosphere is pleasant... we will be back soon..
Fantastique!. This is a wonderful place. Great food, fabulous wine list, very good service, charming ambiance. We went just because its close to the theatre but will go back just to dine here again.
Booking recommended. We went on a Saturday, waitstaff friendly but not intrusive. Reasonably priced, the pork is a must! Lovely decor and atmosphere.
What a great little space this is. Wonderful service and wonderful food. Really highly recommend.
A great little place- shhh!. I love Bistrot. Delicious food, great service and a fabulous wine list. Some of the best service I have ever experienced here actually! A true gem. Go for a special night out on a late sitting- very cosy and intimate. A great find!
Best to go when there isn't a show. Great food, wonderful ambience that is somewhat ruined when it's boistrously full pre-show.
Food was really good will eat there again. Just try not to get the table near the kitchen as the door kept hitting us as the waiters went into the kitchen.
Brilliant.... And the creme brûlée was exceptional
Excellent bouillabaisse. Well located for a pre Theatre meal, Bistro D'Orsay is worth a visit, if only to try their bouillabaisse. I haven't been disappointed in the other dishes on offer, but a bit predictable. Still and all, not too bad at all.
Wow what can I say? It was perfect from start to finish. From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted immediately and brought to our table. The manager put us by the window as I mentioned it was my partner birthday, a very nice touch!
The menu options gave you the sense of being in France and not Melbourne, the food with authentic and of a very high quality and presentation. Our waiter was fantastic, always topping our glasses and offering drinks.
Our entrees came almost immediately and were of a large volume which was a pleasant surprise. I had the gnocchi and my partner the barramundi, both were excellent. If you want to experience French cuisine in Melbourne, this is the place to go.
This is my second visit. Absolutely love this little French bistro. Cozy, friendly and funny staff.
Food is delicious!! The soup is something to die for!
Every time I come here I am impressed - we came to have dinner before the show and the food was off the charts delicious. Service was great and the atmosphere and the overall experience was fun and really a worthwhile evening of fun and great food
Whether youâre a discerning Frenchman or a bogan les named Joan look no further than this nifty little establishment to get your snail fix. Unfortunately they werenât serving any snails today but you can blame covid for that, or Putin or women with balls itâs one of those. So I went for the coq au vin which I must say was delicious, even through the serving sizes were smaller than Glanus Berejiklians career prospects but thatâs what you get when you go somewhere a bit fancy. The gnocchi I tasted was delicious and softer than a cloud. The place was busy yet the service was expedient, attentive and polite. We had a great time and would like to come back one day for a tasty snail and a wheel of cheese.
Old school French restaurant. Lovely delicious food, though perhaps a tad pricey. Perfect place to bring the parents, or to feel fancy, before a night at the theatre.
The food and service was exceptional! The waiting staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and the Creme Brulee was literally to die for. Only issue would be the lack of street parking, but this is an issue for most city restaurants! Either way, this place is amazing and I can't wait to go again to try the white chocolate parfait đ!
Incredible food, absolutely loved it! The goats cheese soufflé is absolutely divine, as is the prawns and scallops St Jacques, the gin & dill cured Atlantic salmon, calamari and creme brûlée.
Favourite restaurant in Melbourne so far â€ïž
Bistrot d'Orsay has become our dining venue of choice whenever we're in the city, whether for a special birthday or anniversary dinner, or a quick, pre-show dinner. Regardless of the occasion, we are always made to feel so welcome on arrival which guarantees to get the night off to a great start.
The quality of the menu makes making a choice so difficult, as they're all guaranteed to delight. Added to that is the first class service which is always informed, but friendly and engaging.
All up a visit to Bistrot d'Orsay is a must and an experience you won't forget!
