Review Seasons Provedore - Melbourne

The bad: Not a fan of the Pizza crust. The sauce in the mussels was also a bit too salty. The saffron seafood risotto was overcooked. The good: The gnocchi was really soft and it grows on you. The Bolognese was alright. The Risotto balls was amazing!! Cheesy garlic bread was also really good. I still thought it was a pleasant experience because of the waitress! She was alone serving many tables but still had such a pleasantness and a big smile. She made us feel really welcome even as a group of six.

Picked this place at random and I was not disappointed! The gnocchi was honestly the best I’ve ever had. It was literally like butter and oh so delicious. The chef was making it out by a window that faces the street, so it was nice seeing her in action.

Favourite Italian spot on Lygon! Hands down the softest and creamiest Gnocchi you'll ever have. It melts in your mouth and the sauce tastes like how my nonna would make it. Highly recommend this place (bonus points for the friendly waitress as well!)

It looked very promising to begin with, but it was a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant. I understand public holidays can be a busy period, but we waited over an hour for our two pastas and garlic bread and that is unacceptable. The carbonara was clumpy and not authentic.. The garlic bread, i’ve had better at dominos. Management was definitely taking on more than they can handle and it shows.

Top top notch gnocchi and pizza, penne less satisfying (one of our group is allergic to eggs). We dream of their gnocchi every time we come to Melbourne.

We have dined here a couple of times & food is always great. We had Gnocchi with porcini mushrooms & Diavola pizza. Gnocchi melts in your mouth & has amazing flavours. The pizza was also good, nice thin base & plenty of topping.

Delicious homemade pasta! Arancini balls are huge and super yummy ! Love their cheesy garlic bread! Cosy dinning and friendly waitresses.

Try the gnocchi! It melts in your mouth and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients used - definitely worth visiting this little spot for great Italian food :) extra points that the staff is always friendly too

Sensational food and service, I had my first visit almost two years ago and thought it was fantastic then.. well everything has only improved. I cannot recommend this place enough, thank you for providing delicious food and 10/10 customer service.

Authentic Italian food in a cosy setting. All their pasta and gnocchi is hand made. I had the Gnocchi Sorrentina and it was buonissimo Please don't take it off the menu! The young Italian staff are very friendly. One of the best places on Lygon Street.

Had a squid ink marinara dish Pasta delicious, had to look for the seafood specially bee a $37 dish Male waiter so so arrogant I wanted to pay him and told to go to front and pay there while he was working Female waiters lovely but saw the male waiter pushing them and been nasty If you are going to have a restaurant charging that much for a past dish make sure you put decent stuff please NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN

Had an early dinner after the football. 2 x Adults and 2 x Kids. Had beautiful options for all of us. Had Garlic bread, Arancini balls, Purple Gnocchi and Gnocchi Bolognaise. All of it....amazing, perfectly prepared, legitimate freshly prepared, and very authentic. I've been dining in Lygon St for 20+ years, and this was the best Gnocchi I've had, period! Service was spot on, polite, adaptable, helpful and nothing too hard. Well done guys, we'll be back!

One can quite easily walk past this restaurant. Apart from the gnocchi that melt in the mouth, fresh hand made pasta, garlic bread and yummy desert, the smiling eyes of the waiters, waitress and the pasta maker standing near the window created a welcoming ambience. We were not just another reservation. Many onlookers and inquisitive children looking in and being in awe of the fresh pasta being rolled. Simplicity at its best.

The food was fresh and delicious, with great wines to match 🍷The staff very welcoming 😀Highly recommend you visit...

Travelling from the Barossa we love Lygon Street in Melbourne for the food...and we were wholeheartedly not disappointed. Every tasty morsel from the sourdough garlic bread, the specials of pappardelle with prawns and pesto, the buttery smooth purple potato gnocchi with pumpkin, to the dessert of tiramisu and panacotta.....was to say outstandingly delicious. But the favourite part was the greeting from Fernando, the owner at the door introducing us to the home-handmade delights, the wink from the chef preparing the fresh gnocchi and the Italian rendition of Happy Birthday from the waiters Christina, Eduardo and Francesco. Their enthusiasm, chatter and laughter was well received. A truly beautiful authentic experience which made us feel at home. Thank you for helping me...us, celebrate my birthday, memorably

Had garlic bread, pizza and pasta, food was delicious only downside was that the wait on our the pasta took quite a while to come, staff was made aware of this and provided beverages on the house, would definitely go back as the food was great

Great home made pasta with marinará was so yummy. Desserts was to die for. Myself and hubby are European so we know good food. Could not fault food or service. Thank you. Will definitely come again.

Amazing aronchini and pasta. Love watching them make it in the window. Friendly and prompt service. The same excellent establishment we visited 3yrs ago, never fails to impress!

Seasons Provedore is a small, cozy restaurant in the middle of the ever-popular Lygon street. Upon passing by, it’s hard to miss the impressive display of colorful, homemade pasta on their window. I’m happy to say these did not disappoint; in fact, this was my second visit!

Bruschetta: A classic appetizer done well. The tomatoes could have been sweeter, but I enjoyed the faint hint of garlic and butter on the bread mixed with the other ingredients.

Pappardelle alla Vongole: As one of the daily specials, it’s unfortunate this isn't on the regular menu. My biggest concern in ordering seafood pastas is that restaurants often only give a few pieces of seafood, but this wasn’t the case here. In addition to the mussels and clams that dotted the top of the pasta, more clams were found underneath as I dug in. The Napoli sauce was really flavorful and the pappardelle was lovely.

Marinara con Tagliolini al Nero di Seppia: We opted to have this with the extra virgin olive oil and white wine instead of the regular Napoli sauce since the pappardelle was also served with Napoli. I do not regret the decision. The milder taste made it possible to detect the squid ink in the pasta - something I was very impressed by. Given the subtlety of the squid ink, I’m not sure if it would come through with a stronger sauce like Napoli.

Overall rating 2.5/5

Service: 2/5
Really disappointing service, upon arrival staff member was very confused and unwelcoming, I felt I was intruding and had to ask if I could enter. Throughout my dining experience the same staff member took my order with a lot of attitude; I asked if I could get cheese on a pizza that didn’t state it had any, she looked at me as if I were stupid and said it already has cheese; when receiving my dessert wine I was confused because it came in a shot which I was unfamiliar with, I asked nicely if I ordered it and she said with quite a lot of attitude that I did - service could be improved extremely

Ambiance: 2/5
Very dated and cheap decor downstairs, nothing like in the photos online - tables were very tight

Food: 3/5
- Prosciutto pizza: very disappointing, prosciutto tasted like standard leg ham, cheese did not taste like quality mozzarella, mushrooms were very sparingly sprinkled on - dominoes pizza would have been a lot more satisfying
- Pesto gnocci: lacked depth in flavour, very standard and relatively bland pesto sauce
- Arancini: standard and satisfying but not amazing
- Side of chips: chips were perfectly cooked however they were not salted at all which was quite disappointing
- Dessert wine: heads up that it is not your usual dessert wine in a glass but it is more of a whisky shot!

Overall I would not return even dining with a 40% off eatclub voucher given the poor food quality and the even poorer service.

We've been coming here for several years now, but the last couple of visits have been disappointing. The pasta itself, particularly the gnocchi, is still wonderfully fresh but the standard of the pasta sauces has really dropped dramatically. On our last visit (valentines day, more on that story shortly), our starters were fabulous and fresh, but the carbonara was bland and unseasoned and the gnocchi sorentina had been cooked so long it had become tomato-y slop. It was also incredibly bland and unseasoned.

The service has also become unbearable. We had a table booking for Valentines night and were seated quite quickly on arriving, but at a table that hadn't been cleared off completely. It took 10 minutes (and my OH scrunching up the paper table cloth) for someone to come and clean it up. It took another 5 minutes for us to get menus and be asked what we wanted to drink. Another 10 minutes later (25 mins in), our orders were taken. We'd been there over 30 minutes before our drinks hit the table.

The first starter arrived at our table at the 45 minute mark, the second starter arrived 20 minutes later. Thank goodness we were sharing! The table next to us had one of their main meals a solid 10 minutes before the second one came out.

It then took until 2 hours after we arrived for our mains to hit the table. And only after we'd asked/complained twice. We were offered and ordered complimentary drinks as an apology. We never received them.

The tables around us were waiting just as long, and there was absolutely (and very obviously) no system as to who got their menus and had their orders taken first. some tables waited 5 minutes. Others 20. We saw one table leave without ordering. I don't think the wait staff even noticed they had gone.

There was one server who seemed to know what he was doing, and he was completely run off his feet. several others seemed to just be standing around staring vacantly at patrons, or otherwise talking to each other whilst tables were trying to wave them over to order.

Shambolic doesn't even begin.

Unfortunately, all of this means we won't be back, which is really sad because the food has until now been absolutely fabulous. But after two disappointing dinners there, I'm going to take my $$ elsewhere.

We came here accidentally on Valentine’s Day for my partners birthday. He loves Italian and we were disappointed. All the food we had was excellent. The gnocchi is fantastic so light. We will definitely be back. They were very busy, probably because of Valentine’s Day. They staff were really struggling. We never got to order dessert because they just wouldn’t take our orders but we’ll be back to try again on not so busy a night.

House made gnocchi was outstanding, service good despite a very busy New Year’s Eve crowd. Will definitely return!

Incredibly long waiting time! We waited for almost an hour for our dishes. The pasta is good, but the pizza is too salted. Steak doesn’t taste good, it’s too thick and like it’s been cooked for a long time so it’s too chewy.

This restaurant hand makes the gnocchi in the window and is so light and fluffy it just melts in your mouth. No feeling later of feeling sick and full and heavy in your tummy. I don't know how they do it! But to the chefs, please please please bring back the pumpkin gnocchi as it's probably the best dish you have and i hear it's only served now on special occasions. We love it and would love to see it come back on the menu! 😊 Aside from that the garlic bread is yummy, desserts beautiful, and staff friendly and very accommodating. A definite YES from me!

This would be the best Italian food we have ever eaten! Amazing food, excellent service! I cannot express how delicious the food was. We ordered both pizza, pasta and tiramisu. All were mouthwatering!
Audrey Kate
Prompt service and a lovely feel with the footpath seating. Cheesy garlic bread is to die for and the squid ink pasta was delicious. However, the pesto gnocchi was disappointing as it was most definitely not made as pesto should be. I have a suspicion that they blended basil with a lot of spinach to get that much green sauce, particularly as it was a bit bitter and didn’t have a strong basil and Parmesan taste. Sticking to a traditional recipe would be much appreciated so that the proper flavours can be appreciated. There were lots of pinenuts on top though which were nice! Overall a good place to check out though!

We dined at Seasons yesterday with my husband for the first time. We ordered Mussels ($18), Gnocchi Sorrentina ($26) and Gnocchi Funghi Porcini e Pancetta ($29). We both found the food average and heavily overpriced! Mussels were not fresh and quite pungent (overly fishy). However, both gnocchi plates improved our initial impression slightly. The texture of gnocchi was soft and smooth as it is when it is freshly made and we liked it. Both sauces were tasty, but nothing extraordinary. This joint needs to rise its game in terms of cooking if they are to justify these prices. Otherwise we found it quite a rip off. The two young lady staff were very nice and attentive, less so the front door host. Most probably we won't be coming back.

Crudo e Bufala - San Daniele prosciutto and creamy buffalo mozzarella, with toasted sourdough bread (10/10) Probs the best prosciutto ever!

Tagliatelle Napoli – Traditional italian tomato sauce, slow cooked - just like Mamma used to make - with onions, garlic and fresh basil (7/10) decently satisfied

Gnocchi Napoli – Served with our slow-cooked, home-style Napoli sauce (9/10) this was very rich and tasty! Portion looked small but it was so rich it was really filling

Food was plain boring and not worth the value for money. I can make a better pasta at home for cheaper. Not much meat on the menu either, would be a plus for vegetarians but wasn’t very satisfying for me.

Seeing someone make pasta in front of you through a window is definitely hard to avoid , good by the restaurant to catch your attention and it definitely lured my partner and I to dine in. They set the bar quite high and so were our expectations. We ordered the bruschetta , spaghetti carbonara and gnocchi funghi porcini e pancetta. The food was brilliant , simple and rustic. Fresh homemade pasta does make the difference. Tad pricey and a bit under with the serving size but well worth for the experience. Waiters had charm , restaurant was cosy and was quite the romantic night. (Ate here about a couple months ago)

Firstly, our waitress came back and asked us to repeat our order 3-4 times. Secondly, we waited close to an hour for our mains. We asked the waitress how much longer it would be twice; twice she said a few minutes. We ordered the seafood marinara pasta and gnocchi pesto. The marinara had one mussell, the rest of the shells were empty. The gnocchi was extremely mushy (what I can only describe as the consistency of a soup). When we advised the owner of the establishment of the lack of seafood in the seafood pasta he asked what we would like to compensate; without an apology. It was almost as if we inconvenieved him. We asked to have some extra mussels. Given that we were clearly unhappy with the service thus far, we assumed the mussels would be a priority, however we waited an additional 20 minutes for the mussels and the owner seemed unphased that we were displeased. There was no explanation as to why these issues occured, just a forced, non-sincere apology. We found the owner to be quite arrogant & unwilling to ensure we left happy. We will not be returning to dine here & will advise against anyone we know who has plans to eat here.

Refreshingly different from the stock standard Italian venues along Lygon Street. House made pasta, modern, open restaurant with a good buzz. We enjoyed the four cheese arrancini - delicious & light not stodgy, the ham & mushroom pizza & the prosciutto pea tagliatelle - which had a delicious white sauce without being too heavy. The service was friendly & attentive & they waived the p/holiday charge which was a pleasant surprise. Worth a visit !

Booked under the EatClub app with a 40% discounts. Zomato ratings was giving the restaurant a good 4.0 but personally feel that it’s heavily inflated given the quality of food served. The spaghetti carbonara was just terrible. Looked and definitely tasted like something a 5 years old kid learning how to cook from a store bought pasta sauce jar - watery (not even creamy) sauce. The waiter recommend the gnocchi which isn’t that special after all. Just plain old cheese with some red based pasta sauce. I was even charged wrongly at the counter, instead of my 40% discount, I was only provided with a 30% discount. The lady behind the counter was acting so dodgy, she even folded my bill inwards and showed me half of the receipt (like who does that) and tried to not provide me with the receipt but I insisted on it. I was lucky enough to realise that they had charged me wrongly as I felt something was wrong and upon confrontation, she refunded me the extra via cash on hand. Overall, bad experience. Food is HORRIBLE. DO NOT VISIT.

We had heard from other reviews that this Italian in Lygon st was nice so we decided to check it out. The gnocchi was AMAZING! Best we’ve ever had and we’ve traveled round the world. We tried it with a couple of sauces, delicious. Highly recommended! I will never forget this gnocchi, melts in your mouth.

i got a groupon deal of $25 per head for 2 courses and a glass of house wine. The food was not the best food in the world but it worth $25 at a touristy place like Lygon Street. I do think the groupon price is fair.
The reason why i award this restaurant under 3 has nothing to do with food. My friends and I all felt that we got treated differently from the moment when the big smile was gone from the waiter's face after we told him we came on groupon. At the check out, that same waiter tried to overcharge us on the extra pizza we ordered and he had to reprint the invoice after we questioned about the amount.
What else i wanted to mention that the same waiter told my friend we need to pay extra if our main dish cost more than 30, but at the check out he deducted 29 from the cost of main dishes. Not sure if this is a language barrier, the convo was quite heated. We understand it was just a difference of 1 dollar but to us it is a matter of principle.
I really hope they can work on the customer services.

Had the most amazing Gnocchi Four Cheese. This was hands the best gnocchi I have ever eaten in my life!
It was on the specials menu, but just ask them to make it for you. You will not be disappointed.

Saw this restaurant advertised on EatClub with 40% off and thought wow. Booked and went. Now leaving I know why they need to have such a discount. I wish I had taken photos but I really couldn’t be bothered as the food didn’t look very good. Ordered a spaghetti marinara and the sauce tasted like it was from a jar. Ordered the gnocchi with prawns and saffron, 3 over cooked bullets, yellow sauce that tasted like a curry with one sundries tomato on top. The gnocchi was soft and gluey at the same time. The Napoli spaghetti we ordered for the kids came out and was the smallest little serve even though we ordered the main size. my 3 toddlers couldn’t finish it though because it was “yuck”. Pizza was okay. I have a feeling that this place used to be good but has sold and new owners are struggling.. Yeah sorry but won’t be back, even with the discount it was expensive for what you got. I don’t think this is authentic italian at all.
Yumchow
Service was decent, but once the food came out it was horrible.visiting from Sydney I can fairly say the Italian food is much better then this place. The pesto did not taste like a normal pesto.

Went here for a quick bite after seeing the offer in EatClub. It doesn’t disappoint, we were very happy with the dishes: spaghetti carbonara, gnocchi sorrentina and marinara pasta. Really enjoy it.

We had an event to be at near Lygon st and decided to stop for a quick bite and ended up at Seasons. The waiter offered us free glasses of wine which was nice and then we ordered pasta bolognese and the prosciutto & mushroom pizza. Both dishes took a while to come out and at this stage we were the only people there. The pizza was definitely not authentic, tasty cheese and not mozzarella and sauce didn’t taste home made. Pasta was nice though, probably a highlight but $22 was steep for what seemed like a frozen base pizza that was only the size of a small dinner plate.
Nilaoyezhulmu
Was a good place but turns worse recently. They don’t serve food unless you order alcohol, well, is there any regulations that you must drink something on Lygon restaurants? Waited for nearly an hour and had no food, the only thing we had is the waiters asking whether we would like some drinks. And the food is not better than other Lygon places, but far more expensive. Won’t consider again.
Svenja Grabo
Decent authentic Italian and reasonably priced too. I love that the pasta is homemade and the staff is always lovely.

Had a few pasta dishes of their menu and liked all of them even though not outstanding.
Jovana Maksimovic
Disappointing is really the only way to describe this place. The pizza was below average, and being on Lygon Street you expect a certain quality of food and this place didn’t deliver it.
The gnocchi had a great sauce but not enough prawns. Definitely could name a lot of places on the street that do much better pizza and pasta.
Sivashankar Sivam
Nice bruschettas but that’s where the goodness stops.

The prosciutto pizza wasn’t even prosciutto but regular bacon, which was extremely misleading and disappointing.

The prawn gnocchi had 3 small pieces of diced prawn? $27 for that....

The only saving grace was that the waiter did everything he could to make the experience a little bit better.

Will not return, there are way too many other choices on Lygon!
Loh-Ryder
Terrible service, got our order wrong and we waited for over an hour. Didn’t give us any discount off our meal price. Pasta was nice but pizza was average. Won’t be returning.
Elizabeth Laura Donald
I’ve come back here 5+ times because they have the best carbonara in Melbourne. It is also a nice touch seeing the pasta be made in the window. In summer it is a lovely place to sit on lygon and eat the best it has to offer.

It's hard for an Italian to find an authentic place, and Seasons Provedore didn't disappointed me. I had the best time there and food was awesome! They have an amazing chef and floor staff is very friendly too.. Highly recommended!!! ;) authentic Italian's honor.
A
the pasta itself was to die for although the sauce was a bit underwhelming (only got 3 pieces of mushroom!?)
also was a bit confused about the cold tough bread that came out with the mains without any butter to accompany it?
4 stars for the fresh soft pasta alone although definitely some things could be improved
Brenton Wallace
Chose to eat here last night after walking up and down looking for something good. The hand-made pasta in the window caught my groups eye and we weren't disappointed. Everything was fresh. Gnocchi was soft and pillowy, pasta was al dente. Sauces had depth of flavor and texture. Drinks were a little slow coming out and the service was not amazing, but the food came out very fast.
The wine list is decent, I scanned and opted for the Chianti Classico which showed the usual dried herb and game with smooth, well balanced tannin and acid. Exactly what i was looking for...very nice.
Seasons Provedore was a good experience for us and the price was right.

Tried the marinara special and the carbonara during lunch.

Waitress was attentive and very polite and friendly.
I was left stunned with the carbonara sauce as it was creamy and very flavourful. As expected from an authentic italian restaurant.
The handmade pasta really made a difference with the marinara sauce as it was light and tasty. If only they used fresh seafood it would really up their game.
This is a restaurant amongst a lot more on Lygon Street but has become one of my favourites.
Recommend trying it out!
Yibei Jessie Shen
Love this place! I am amazed by the gnocchi made of purple potato. The food is delicious. Squid ink spaghetti is a must have as well. Will definitely come back
Arnold De Hond
Authentic hand made purple gnocchi made with purple potato! We tried squid ink spaghetti marinara, it is a must have. Awesome place. Kids love the arichini.
Amysyder
The service was good, the staff were very friendly! The plate was rather large for the portion size and I was expecting a bit more than what I got for my money. The pasta was adequate but wasn’t amazing, however the sauce more than made up for it. I had the Tagliatelle Napoli. Also they seated a couple very very close to me and my friend, felt like they were having dinner with us. All in all it’s an okay restaurant, nothing amazing.
Tkfkddl1995
Honestly the most delicious pizza and pasta i have tried!! The quality of the handmade noodles were way beyond my expectations, and i am looking forward to my return to melbourne next year for a re-dining at this amazing hidden goldspot. Wanted to give the chef way more compliment but words were just not enough lol. The taste of that yumm bread and cheese and sauce... lingering in me still to this moment haha. Highly recommended;)
Ellapark0626
Amazing best italian food ive ever had. I highly recommend the vegetariana(?) pizza and the marinara spaghetti and the tiramisu. There coffee was also amazing! Service was exceptional as well. Will miss this restaurant for sure please open one in Sydney
Emma James
I felt this place had so much potential when I walked in. There was great ambience and the restaurant had a nice feel. Our entrees were good, however the mains were a complete disappointment. All three of us ordered pasta, which you would think they would get right.
My carbonara was not filled with crispy pancetta as stated on the menu, but rather fatty chewy bits. It was very hard to eat.
The pumpkin gnocchi was completely tasteless and the third dish was so uneventful, I can't even remember what it was.
I really wish this place had been a success!
Melbourneats
Always walked pass here seeing the chef hand craft the pastas in front of their window.
Finally decided to dine here one night and unfortunately we were pretty disappointed.
Started off with the arancini 4 cheese and traditional bolognese which tasted average but pretty salty.
Ordered the spaghetti carbonara and I was pretty disappointed with the actual pasta itself. There was a lot of air in the pasta and although it's fresh, but the egg mixture was overcooked which made it taste scrambled. I've never had prosciutto cut that thick for a carbonara dish and it didn't go well with it, very thick and chewy.
The lasagna was very nice, but was it worth $23? Not at all for a serving like that.
Staff were attentive and traditional.
Cutlery was dirty which is an easy fix.
Wouldn't return unfortunately. Going to stick to our usual go to Italian restaurants.
Mary Dal
The gnocchi here is great! I've been here 5 or more times and you can't go wrong with the gnocchi.
The portions are a little small and it's quite expensive.
Parmas aren't very good at all.
The outdoor eating area is really nice. Good ambience, warm in winter and cozy.
Nom4423
Food: We ordered the Gnocchi Pesto and the Gnocchi Napoli. The gnocchi was delightfully soft and pillowy. (Some may prefer a firmer bite to their gnocchi, but I personally don't mind, so long as the flavours are good.) The pesto was delicious but quite salty. The napoli sauce was perfect. When the pasta is brought to your table, the server will also ask if you want some freshly grated Parmesan, definitely say yes!

Price: Reasonable pricing for the portion served, and also the fact that the pasta is homemade and not just out of a box!

Ambience & Service: The restaurant is very small but homely, reminiscent of restaurants you go to in little European alleyways. We came without a booking (for dinner) but luckily there was one table left. Although we sat outside, it wasn't cold because we were next to the outdoor heaters. The waiters that served us were very friendly, humorous and chatty.

All in all, a wonderful evening and the Italian food is simplicity at its best.
Kate
I commend these guys for making their own pasta, and the menu looked enticing but I'm sorry to say my partner and I were both underwhelmed by each of our pasta dishes, which lacked flavour and adequate seasoning. When we've had a good carbonara, the guanciale (or pancetta as it was here) permeates the egg-parmesan/pecorino sauce but in this case we really needed the extra grated parmesan the waiter offered, because unless you got a strand of spaghetti with a bit of pancetta, it was a little bland. Similar was my gnocchi with porcini and pancetta, but I also found the texture of the gnocchi too soft for my taste. They were still formed into dumplings, but once bitten the texture was like mashed potato. I realise however that some may like this, I just prefer a touch more bite. We left feeling a bit deflated because the experience didn't match the price.

As a side note, if you prefer a place with ambient music and subtle or minimalist decor - you probably won't enjoy it here. The tinny soundsystem was playing grating top 40 autotune tracks and the dark decor really needs to be freshened up.
Belinda
Excellent place if your up for some awesome home made pasta. You can't beat home made pasta!! I had the gnocchi and it was very tasty and light. Service was also very good, would definitely go back and try something different next time it all looked very appetising 😊👌

Best gnocchi in Melbourne, in our opinion. Fresh handmade pasta along with excellent service. It's located among many Italian restaurants along busy Lygon St, but this one is worth stopping at.
Jim
This small space in the heart of logon, offers excellent pasta & gnocchi hand made each day. The service is friendly with a hint of typical Italian, that goes well considering how some establishments on lygon insist on annoying people with spruikers. We arrived without a booking but we're accommodated after only a short wait. We shared a gnocchi, followed by carbonara and pizza with a rocket salad. The pizza I must say was the least favorite dish as there's better on lygon, however the rest of the dishes were delicious. The wine we chose, they have a small selection of local and Italian wines, was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. I'm looking forward to out next visit.

Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Probably the best restaurant I've been to. The food was all great without exception, the serves were generous but not ridiculous, the waiter didn't need a notepad and memorised our (four-person, muli-course) order perfectly and effortlessly, the service was fast and getting a waiter's attention was effortless (and we were seated outside), the outside heaters worked terrifically, and there was a consistent Italian atmosphere complete with Italian-accented staff.
Maddie Kingham
Came here today for lunch with friends. The service was friendly but incredibly slow. We had to wait almost an hour for our lunch. We ordered the bolognese arancini balls to start- they were actually huge! Probably bigger than they needed to be- bigger isn't always better. They hadn't cooked all the way through, either, so the mozarella (which was shredded) had not even melted and they weren't very saucy so kind of dry. While the arancini balls came out in a reasonable time, we had to wait an extraordinarily long time for our Mains- which were just the lunch special pastas. We had to say to the staff - 'when are our Mains coming out because we actually have to *leave* by 3 to get to the airport'. Our mains were brought out at 2:50pm. The lady who brought them out was apologetic but it still wasn't very great to be brought out a meal 10 minutes before you need to leave and have to scoff it down. By the time we ate and got the bill, we were leaving later than we wanted and my friend legitimately missed her flight! Oops.
Other things that we found strange/disappointing was the lack of fresh chilli!! We asked the waiter for some fresh chilli and he said they only had dried chilli flakes. What kind of Italian restaurant only has dried chilli flakes? Makes me concerned for the pasta amatriciana.
Other than that- the pastas we had were tasty- we got the Papardelle Bolognese, the Napoli and the Spaghetti marinara. The food was decent but not mind blowing and the service was too slow. Don't come here if you have somewhere to be afterwards.

We celebrated mothers day dinner tonight, we were book for 7pm but the table still not available so we have to wait for few minutes, Lorenzo one of the staff is very nice and apologetic that we have to wait, he offer us a free coffee and hot chocolates. The pasta & pizza was good even the lazana, the portion is just enough, no leftover to waste. we will come back and will recommend this place to friends and family.
Andrew Kelly
I do like how they make their own pasta here. It is made with love and is quite tasty, I do probably prefer dried pasta though as I like it al dente which you can't really do with fresh pasta. The menu here has all the classics from Italy, matched by a surprisingly tasty selection of Italian wines. There was nothing really on the menu that stood out but we weren't disappointed, if anything the dishes were under seasoned. If you're after a special Italian meal with punch then there are better options in Carlton but this place is ok.
Pinch Of Bacon
The best thing with Seasons is that they make their own pasta. This is good Italian fare. It isn't fancy but it is tasty which is what counts. I love the gnocchi
Fotini
Authentic flavours, attentive service and reasonably priced. The tiramisu was one of the best we've had & limoncello was delicious. The fresh pasta and cute waiters make Seasons Provedore a must. We are looking forward to our next visit as the pasta is unforgettable 😋

Excellent seafood supper.
Home made tasty tomato broth w plenty of seafood.

Fresh made pasta available.
V authentic Italian good.

Better than in Milan!!?

Gelato place next door =v convenient!

Loved the fresh in-house made pasta. My husband and I both had the seafood marinara, one with squid ink fettuccini - divine. The kids were catered for with classic carbonara, an adults meal that the staff happily split between the 2 kids. The chef even kindly offered to show our eldest how to make the gnocchi she was watching him make in the shop window. Genuine and authentic Italian hospitality.
Bradley Garrett
Was a brilliant experience, the food and service was exceptional. I can't wait to come back again and I'll definitely be recommending this place to my friends
Hand made gnocchi!!!!! Treated well and had a great feel overall. Had the bruschetta and gnocchi with sage. Definitely would come back 👍👍👍
Pierre Pie
The food is nice and tasty ordered the bolognese , lasagne and the rice ball , totally awesome . And the price is reasonable 2 person around 55 + . Just only something need to improved , the waiter while take order seem like not intend to served service order .
Thooha Saleem
Delicious! Their homemade gnocchi was creamy and very tasty! Service was friendly and complimentary bread accompanying the pastas was a bonus. Loved watching the guy rolling out fresh pasta.
Jnelson902
Nice service and fairly priced, but extremely bland food, the kind you could make at home with standard cooking skills. Environment is very loud and uncomfortable, tables on the street are not pleasant.
Jim Kydas
I was drawn in to this restaurant by the chap making fresh pasta in the front window. Good marketing. Unfortunately I have had much tastier pasta elsewhere in Melbourne, including the pasta we make at home. The fresh pasta at this restaurant had little taste .. not sure why or how this is possible. And I'm not convinced the seafood was cooked on the spot and/or fresh. Disappointing!

The pizza was terrible. It's not that hard surely. It tasted like it was out of a packet.

The entrees were nice. Beer was cold. But they are the highlights I'm afraid.
Coffee Cup
This is a lovely looking restaurant with the man making pasta in front window. We decided to stop on a hot day for lunch where we sat outside and watched pasta being made. The environment is lovely. We went upstairs to use the toilet- it's all hot and grungy up there as you are assaulted by the smell of deep frying.
The meals were ok. The Parma was dry but nice, the steak was tough but cooked medium rare to request. The gnocchi was lovely but somewhat over cooked. Pizzas were ok. When you order a prosciutto pizza, I don't expect to get ordinary ham but that's what it was. All in all good was nice enough, staff were very attentive and the environment is lovely. The coffee however, was perfect!!

Stopped in for lunch with wife and 2 kids. The staff were friendly and the restaurant/location is very good. The menu is quite good with a good variety of Italian food, wine and beer.
The service was attentive although the specials were not conveyed to us. Also they forgot to bring our childs meal. We sat waiting and then started to eat. Got third the way through our meals and then asked. It seems forgotten. We all finished before the last meal was served. Pretty sloppy really given the level of enthusiasm shown trying to get us to eat there in the first place. We got an apology. Our meals, carbonara, gnocchi napoli and mushroom tortellini were all satisfactory. Mine was served coolish though.
Wouldnt recommend this place. There are probably better options along the Lygon street strip.
Mo
I've eaten here twice, the first time was fabulous but the second time average, but I would still recommend them as one of the better Italian restaurants along lygon st. On the visit that was fabulous, I tried the fresh pasta, that is made in store and within view. Definitely recommend! On the very average visit, I had a margarita pizza, which was very doughy and not to my tastes. So definitely stick with the pastas as that seems to be their speciality. Also they have good weekday lunch specials!

Mmmm purple nocci! Good service, great setting. Good lunch date and a treat for the little ones .......................................,,,...

What a beautiful restaurant, feels so authentic, love the pasta in the fridges ! We just adored it. In agreeance with everyone who has had the pumpkin gnocci, superb and even the garlic bread is yum! The service was outstanding and Foodie mate that I dined with could converse with the waiter in Italian, nice touch! Would definately return to try more of the menu.

I've been meaning to try a main meal at this family owned restaurant for such a long time and today was the day!! And I'm so glad that I did!! :) There is just absolutely nothing that I could fault whatsoever. Service is top-notch brilliant - the waiter and waitress complemented each other perfectly and were able to attend to all clientele throughout the restaurant with ease, whilst also introducing passers-by to the restaurant in typical Lygon Street fashion, without being overly-pushy like some other restaurants can be in the area - major kudos!! :)

The gnocchi that was recommended today was absolutely divine and I highly endorse it (served with pumpkin and Gorgonzola) - I was hooked from the first mouthful which just melted away without even chewing!! Quality ingredients are flavoursome throughout - love and attention shines through. The pasta is hand-made on the premises by a friendly gentleman who's been in the business for years - you'll see him happily working away in the window at the restaurant whilst you're there - don't be afraid to wave and say hi - he also makes an awesome coffee!! :)

Well regarded by TripAdvisor and many other awards, I'm amazed that this restaurant rates at a lowly 3.8 on Zomato - should be in the high 4's at the very least - do yourself a favour and sample their wares, you will not be disappointed at all. Can't wait to try their pizzas next, which look amazing too - the gentleman sitting next to me was having one and was loving every bit of it!! :)
Arlette
This was the worst service ever! 4 of us ordered and the easiest dish the lasagna "had gone cold and had to be reheated " why it had gone cold in the first place? Bad service. They spent more time trying to get people in than service. Never go to this place. And the food was below par. And it ruined our first night in Melbourne Bunch of Wanker waiters who were more interested in talking to their mates on Lygon st
Sonia Petrova
Bad service. I order steak medium well. They serve me medium. I sent back. They sent me again, and its well done. At the end the manager was rude saying they did nothing wrong. I have tried many best restaurant in melbourne but not this place.
Jarita Stubbs
Both the food and service were wonderful. Food was cooked perfectly, tasted amazing and looked beautiful while our waitress and all staff were very friendly and offered exceptional service. I will make a point of dining here whenever I visit Melbourne.
Spondy
Nice food. The home-made pasta was very tasty. The gnocchi was so soft and fluffy. Great friendly service as well. Very accomodating. Would definitely come back.
Simon
This tiny restaurant services great pasta made on the premises and served with love and understanding that takes you to the heart of Italian cuisine in Melbourne. Great friendly service and a kitchen that clearly cares about what comes out.
Liz_p24
A little pricey but great service and all pasta and pizza is fresh and home made, thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back. I had the 4 stagioni and loved it
Cathryn
Walking past the first thing that seized my attention is the chef creating his pastas! Yes you can a rally watch him handcraft these tantalising tagliatelle and spaghettis! The service was delightful and made me feel very welcome. I do like to dine alone but the atmosphere here was buzzing and the front of house staff attentive. One bite of the gnocchi and I'm immediately transported back to a tiny family restaurant I frequented when I was in Italy. This place was so good I have joined Zomato purely to leave a rave review! Thank you I'll be back with friends! X
Hanneka Gerritsen
Classic Italian as I would except no less on Lygon street. Generous servings of delicious food with friendly, attentive staff. First off, we had arancini balls and they were absolutely delicious. Cheesy and flavoursome. Then I had the gnocchi with pancetta and porcini mushrooms. The gnocchi was...
Danelle Lim Yun
The service here was excellent. The servings were generous, cheesy and delicious! I tried the cannelloni and my friend had the pizza. The pizza was thin and crispy! I would highly recommend this place!
EDIT: I came back again and this time, we tried the carbonara, lasagne and chicken Parma. The carbonara was way too salty, while the lasagne was delicious and the side salad that came with the Parma was way too salty. I would recommend you try the pizzas and pass on the carbonara.
Cheronnie
Trying to pick a place to eat at Lygon street can be a pretty daunting task, it is nicknamed Melbourne’s “Little Italy” for a reason, there is so much choice! Most of the restaurants you walk past boast an authentic Italian menu, usually shown to you by a friendly (sometimes overly-keen) Italian gentleman with a lot of enthusiasm!!!
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
When in Lygon Street, eat Italian.

Our lunchtime dining destination was actually Easey's in Collingwood and were only passing by this homely Italian restaurant when the chef in the front window caught our attention; Fernando was expertly preparing gnocchi, and we were summonsed by Penelope to stop for a meal. How could we not?

So we ordered the Gnocchi Pesto alla Genovese. It was amazing. Plump pillows of potato gnocchi were tossed through the pesto; every bite was heavenly.

Not to be deterred from our original lunch goal, we continued on our way after our impromptu gnocchi stop.
Rachel Brown
Great service however the - pesto gnocchi was gross . The sauce was just terrible . I'm a shit cook but even I can make an amazing pesto sauce from scratch . I felt like I was eating just bitter basil. Won't be going back ever !!! I only ate it because it was my only meal for my day . My companion also highly disliked their gnocchi sauce . Double thumbs down
Wendy Tseng
I came here today for lunch, the service was great, all the staff were attentive and made the effort to ensure you were enjoying yourself. I ordered the Tagliatelle Napoli today and enjoyed the freshly made pasta however I think the texture wasn't very special (I like pastas with more interesting textures that excite the palate) and there was something lacking from the sauce. Overall it was a clean and light, reasonable feed however lacked something special which would make you want to come back for more.
Ojunior Xavier
The customer service from this one gentleman fellow was so good that i felt like i needed to register myself for zomato to express how good his customer service was
Gavin Gusling
Excellent pasta, all home made on site. Good selection of drinks and wines with knowledgeable staff. A little slow on service but well worth the wait.
Peter White
Seated outdoors on a lovely mild Melbourne night. Bruschetta arrives, tasty and ripe tomatoes. We share the Gorgonzola gnocchi and a diavola pizza. The gnocchi is light and fluffy, but oversized. They could've been so delicate. Odd pumpkin infusion to the sauce reminiscent of American Monterey Jack cheese.

Pizza is tasty, but with unseasoned base, the crusts are strangely bland and just a bit horrid, especially given the sauce misses the edges by almost 3cms. Pizza sizes all a bit stingy.

Delightful garden salad.

Service attentive, until time came for the bill, when their avertive gaze presented challenges.

Washed down with a Chianti Classico, which made everything a little bit better.

The touristy gloss is well gone. Unsophisticated and all a bit pedestrian. Keep walking.
Blueberrypie
A little and friendly place with attentative service. However, waited 20 mins for a takeaway roll to get warmed up only to find that it was cold - not even warm. Rather disappointed as the service is good.
Tram Dang
Good expericence here. Nice little and cozy resto located in itlle Italian street, very limited menu but ideal for lunch. I love italian food but the food here is too much olive oil for me, especially the garlic bread.
Services: 4/5 very friendly and nice staffs
Atmosphere: 3.5/5
Taste: 3/5
Value for money: 3/5
Presentation:3/5

Season's Providore is an Italian place on Lygon st, right near Melbourne uni. Adriennely has been there and so has another blogger. But Adriennely's gone home and disabled the Melbourne posts so we couldn't see it. They have won awards for pies eventhough they are an Italian restaurant?. It is a short walk away from the Carlton campus and they have a lunch special for $17 which includes wine or soft drink.
Roshanaksamadirad
This is a good place for a quick meal, nice salads and desserts, good service, vibrant atmosphere.
I had a good salad at this place. recommended.
BeeQueUU
Came for breakfast the spot was good it was br8ghter in the outdoor seating with more see through coverings than some of the Lygon St italian cafes opened that Sunday.
Waiter was doing a good job. Disappointing kitchen. Slow to make sone simple breakfasts. Egg B. , eggs on toast with mushrooms and a ham and cheese crossiant. Slow was 25 min waitnwhen we waited 15 on QV markets. Coffee was a latte ok but the two Mocchino had to be returned as they were sour. Ownees said it qas a new chocolate mix that was not mixed properly causing the sourness. (No idea what that means as didnt know choc was ever sour)!! There was no charge for the moccas.
Almeida
The most amazing Gnocchi I have ever had in my life - reminds me of my earlier days in Italy - truly authentic!! Soft as a pillow absolutely divine!!!
CoolBeans
What a lovely place. The place makes you feel warm and homely. Went there for a dinner and immediately liked how at the window a chef makes the pasta and lines if up. The staff was friendly and the service was good. The potion sizes were good. Would go back.
Food Is Loved
I was lucky enough to stumble across this restaurant on a recent trip to Melbourne, lured in by the promise of the best gnocchi I've ever tasted. Well I have to say they weren't wrong!
I'd never been a massive gnocchi fan, but have to confess I'm now a total convert.
I now know why those in the know describe gnocchi as pillows of lightness. Absolute perfection matched with the saltiness of pancetta and earthy mushrooms.
Greg Foulds
Italian food and service just as its meant to be. Antipasto platter and gnocchi were perfect. A relaxing evening and dinning experience. We will return.
Andrew Goldsmith
Terrible, inattentive service with plenty of waiters, many who are rude! Not worth the so-so food that itself is hit and miss and extremely overpriced.
Michael
Absolutely brilliant food, delicious omelet, fantastic coffee and such friendly and welcoming staff and service. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Will definitely be back!
Vee Johnson
The coffee here is just spot on. More Italian style (strong flavour) than Melbourne style (really milky) but great for when you want that hit. Muffins are a solid bet - they have a good breakfast deal on them. The guy who runs this is also unfailingly friendly, kind and happy. Great reliable place.
Charlotta Adolfsson
Authentic and cute place. Home made pasta. Had the $19 antipasto to share as starter. Wow. Plenty for two! Then homemade Pasta; Spaghetti marinara and Cannelloni. Yum. Nice staff and I love the feel.
Judy Stangret
Absolutely delicious hand made gnocchi! Great friendly service. Great pasta. Highly recommended! Tiramsu to die for. Definitely coming back for lunch so I can try the award winning Beef Burgundy Pie!
Nic Crouch
Poor service, waited 45 minutes for two plates of Spaghetti Bolognese (one with meatballs) and some Garlic bread. Meatballs were "grainy" according to my companion, and my Spaghetti was cold. Music wasn't working properly and erupted in screeching.
I4n9
Service is very good. Food is relatively cheap compared to other restaurants in Lygon Street. The pasta was pretty good. A place I definitely would go again!
Aimee Mary-Kate
The service was lovely and the gnocchi was wonderful!
Pastry.loving.foodie
Highly recommended!. Delicious pasta! the handmade tagliatelle with bolognese sauce was of beautiful quality (my boyfriend had the Napoli version, which was just as good) and we received great service from the staff, who were very friendly to us.
Shannon E. Spaulding
Far out good coffee with soul. A delicious strong dark soul. Had an out of body experience tasting this café's unassuming soy flat white. Well maybe not, but I haven't been this impressed with GREAT FARKING COFFEE in a long time. I don't know what kind of dark roast this place uses, but it will blow your strong-coffee-loving mind. If you want a disheartened barista serving you whilst you sit on milk crates and reclaimed vintage furniture, you'll be disappointed. If you want smiling staff and are happy to enjoy yourself seated at a real table with real chairs, you'll find their coffee runs over the competition.

(Honestly- it's the best coffee I've had in Melbourne!)
Good food too!
Mike
Wonderfull food, highly recommended to anyone coming down lygon for real authentic Italian!
Kath Day
We visited today and had the lunch special which was pasta or pizza plus a glass of wine for $17.90. The pasta was handmade and with the bolognese sauce it was amazing. The staff were also really friendly and helpful with the menu choices. Would definitely return
Matt.symmans
Matt. Love it!!!
Fantastic food and service.
Pasta is amazing and the flavour is spot on.
I have been to Italy and this matches with the best there....
Hone made pasta, antipasto, chianti region wine.. Couldn't ask for more
Tom Chard
Get yourself a coffee STAT. Authentic food, authentic staff and above all else beautiful authentic coffee. Not too hot, not too cold. Reminds me of being back in Trastevere, Rome. My daily coffee spot now!!
Stedonnskis
Yum!. Did the lunch time special. $16.90 pasta was delicious and fresh. Got a red wine with the meal, included in the cost. Was great!
Nathan Gurarie
Great night - there's quite a few rip offs on lygon at but we had a super dinner. The surf n turf for only $35 was the highlight.
Emmacummack
Incredible food. Such amazing pasta and great service would definitely go back!!
Get Your Eat On
They had me at squid ink pasta. We were actually on our way to eat at our favourite fast Italian restaurant when I saw the specials board out the front spruiking squid ink pasta marinara. Well! There goes the old plan! We ended up dining here and my pasta wasn't too bad. It was subtle, tasty and so more-ish. I loved it.
My partner opted for the steak with mushroom sauce and roasted vegies, and he couldn't complain. It was cooked medium-rare as asked and the vegies were delicious. My sister chose the marinara risotto and she was the first to finish her dish. Everyone was completely satisfied and my daughter loved the mushroom and mozzarella croquette. She actually ate a whole one, AND ate the roasted vegies (a huge feat for her). Will definitely be returning
Tony
Seasons provedore. The anti pasta was great. Fresh tasmanian oysters better.
Then we had a pasta with blue cheese.
Exceptional.
GOOD LUCK?
Tastekingss
Flop. Obviously many people who review have not had any decent "traditional" Italian food. When it comes to pasta the tortellini was very very average and quite small. My friend had the Bolognese gnocchi which was bite size for $20 and also tasted very average. To have a sign saying the best gnocchi on lygon street, is a very big call. Please review your sizes and the quality of the food.

Best restaurant on Lygon!. Seasons Provedore is by far the best and most authentic Italian restaurant on Lygon St. My fiancé & I have both been brought up with homemade Italian food and this is definitely the best we've had at any restaurant. Not only is the food great but the staff are lovely & very hospitable, they take great pride in service and go beyond to make sure you enjoy your meal. The wine list is also quite good, as well as the dessert options and the coffee. We could not fault any of the courses. We highly recommend the gnocchi & the tiramisu which are both made fresh on the premises. We will be back! :)
Caitlin.mateer
Gluten Free, Yes Please. I went to this place with friends, nervous because I am gluten intolerant and Italian food can be my worst nightmare, either nothing offered for me or not cooked well. I was very pleasantly surprised by the amazing gluten free pasta they have!! Full marks to the chef, unfortunately no gluten free pizza but I would go back for the pasta!!
Monique
My partner and I were on our way to dine at another restaurant, however the freshly made pasta in the window caught our eye and thought we would give it a go. So glad we did. Bruschetta was lovely and we both got gnocchi. It was so fresh and well made. Definitely recommend! Staff were very hospitable and friendly even though it was busy!
Dylan Welsh
AMAZING!!!!! We ate here to.... AMAZING!!!!!
We ate here tonight, was beautiful!
My partner got the scotch surf n turf and it was yum!
I got the 300gr scotch fillet, more like 400grams! It was huge!!!
Cooked to perfection!!! We will be back for sure!!
Keep up the good work guys, loved it :-)

Quality Gnocchi, friendly service. Visiting from Brisbane with my girlfriend we did a lap of the Lygon street before deciding on trying Seasons Provedore for dinner. The atmosphere was warm, with a friendly group of waiters operating the busy 8pm rush without much fuss. We ordered the Gnocchi (homemade) and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meal and service speed. Definitely worth a try!
Van Ravo
We had delicious gnocchi, definitely can't describe how good it was however the service is something they really need to improve on. We waited for over 40 minutes until our dinner got served, they forgot to serve our entree and when mentioned at the end, all they did was to apologise. Nothing was thrown to make up for their error. We left with mixed feelings about this restaurant.
William Harradine
Seasons Provedore. Great service, Great food. Lunch specials were great. Would recommend for lunch or dinner
Rochelle
Favourite restaurant on lygon street. We get the carbonara and spaghetti meatballs every time, amazing!
Bev Thomas
Highly recommend ! Great maître de, exceptional vegetarian pasta, minestrone soup, parmigiana and arancini balls. Pizza tomorrow base delicious !

Wonderful experience. Visiting from NZ. Happened on Seasons. Had an awesome eating experience. Pasta and pizza were to die for. Great coffee and very friendly service added to this. We'd definitely recommend and come back!

Came from another Restraunt (Johnny's) which had terrible food and service to Seasons which was the exact opposite.

Amazing service, the waiters were very kind and accommodating. I ordered a risotto marinara and it was delicious, the scallops were nicely done and melting! Overall great experience

So good I had to go back. Went there Saturday night on the F1 busy as usual. Super friendly staff and can i say how amazing the food was. The special was mussels which was amazing and the seafood hot pot was too die for.
And i couldnt believe the price. Best value for money restaurant, and my new favourite (sorry Cavellino)
Very highly recommend!
Alex
I have been to seasons a few times and I love it! Home made gnocchi I can't get enough best one Iv tasted it just melts on your tongue and I love the tiramisu dessert 9/10

Wonderful surprise, great service and food.Really well priced. Coming back again!

Best in everything. My favorite restaurant-bistro . my compagna ( romy ) loves it too . we eat there most saturdays .
Jacyn24
Surprisingly simple good food. We had dinner here with family and friends who were in Melb for a short visit. We wanted to show them Lygon St but avoid the tourist traps. At first look Seasons Provedore looked more like a brunch cafe than restaurant, but the service and food was definitely just as good if not better than your standard Italian restaurants. We enjoyed all the dishes,, I loved the hand made gnocchi, which was tasty and almost addictive. This place has a lot of potential and I wish the presentation of the venue was better so it attracted more people amongst the competition on Lygon street. Oh and apologies to the owner and waiter, we forgot to add tips while we paid the bill first by card. The service was really attentive and worth tipping.
Alex Looyen
Beautiful gnocchi, the best in Melbourne! A meeting place for my friend and myself, we come only for the handmade gnocchi, which you can often see being prepared through the front window! Friendly staff, had a lovely conversation with the owner after our meal about how the pasta is prepared. Try the Mediterranean butter and sage sauce, it's devine ;)
Anton09
Big on taste. The Seasons Provedore must have one of the best gnocchi's. Well executed, down to earth, smart and real. Always a pleasure.

Thanks
Fernando and Penny
Srchapman.sheila
There is a new chef now and the food is yum! Especially the flathead. The service is also great.
Jcm80
Surprisingly Pleased. Reading the negative reviews on Urbanspoon about this restaurant, I was really hesitent to try it. However I was definitely pleasantly surprised. The service was actually very friendly, and in my opinion attentice. I was not expecting this as I understand the very rushed and busy nature of Lygon street which can be hard a€nd stressful for wait staff.
The food itself was really delicious. All my friends were happy with their meals and I loved the gnocchi. Home made gnocchi is very hard to find at restaurants these days but it really was spectacular.
MiniMunch
Terrible service and customer approach. We were seated hastily, given menus and after spending 20 min deciding we started ordering. Only upon ordering were we told that there was no chicken, lamb, beef. All together more than half the menu was unavailable. This of course was not explained until after we had day down and ordered wine so we could not leave. Waiters joked inappropriately constantly and could not get our orders right, with us having to correct it 3 times. Wine list was terrible with a total of 2 producers on the list. Will not be coming back and in light of the other wonderful restaurants in its vicinity on Lygon street, I don't know why anyone else would either! Also meals were subpar. One of the many examples of the failures was a gnocchi a la panna with no ham. Never again
Jac
Had dinner here the other night and was pretty happy with the food here. The pastas are very nice particularly the gnocchi with pesto sauce. The surf 'n' was very nice and great value too however the steak was over medium rare
Overall a great meal
Jo R
Was a nice approach, the guy out the front, so we stopped to have dinner. Took a while for anyone to come & get our drinks order so we just ordered everything in one go. Starter of whitebait was very nice & ample for both of us. As we were waiting for main I saw a waiter take our meals to another table. They sat at the other table for a few minutes before there was some discussion & realised that they had been served wrong food. We were then given one of those dishes, which we refused as it had been sitting in front of another diner for some time. We asked for fresh ones - maître d was pleasant enough, female waitress seemed disgruntled. When meals came out a few minutes later (Saltimbocca) it was clearly the same one offered to other diner - skin had formed on the sauce & meat had gone tough & dry from over heating. Not wanting to make a fuss, cos that's the type of guy he is, my husband accepted it... After, the very pleasant maître d asked whether the meal was ok, my husband politely said it was dry. No discount or apology offered.
Otherwise my dish was tasty.
Erin Fergus
Food that's good for the soul :)
We wandered up and down Lygon St until finally deciding on Seasons. Very happy with our decision - could not fault the gnocchi or the margherita pizza. Great little Italian restaurant
Daniel Simone
Best gnocchi on Lygon. Made even better by the Mediterranean butter and sage. Friendly staff who go above and beyond.
JJnMouse
Not up to standard. We ate there last night. The waiter offered a complimentary glass of wine to encourage us in (as do most restaurants on lygon St). We ordered 6 fresh oysters for starters. When asked where the oysters were from, the waiter first told us they were from NZ, then changed it to Tassie. I am pretty sure the owner has commented numerous times on this forum that they are from coffin bay. Anyway, it seemed as though the oysters had been shucked quite some time ago as they were very dry. They were served with slices of lemon cut in half. Ever tried to squeeze half a slice of lemon? Just cut it into wedges. Mains were spaghetti meatballs and a seafood hotpot. Both served in a clay pot which was cool. Table water was not served or offered and the waiter hasn't yet followed up on how the meals are/were. Back to the food- The spaghetti meatballs were great. The seafood hotpot was very average for $33- the flavour was ok but the crab was tiny and powdery (which indicates lack of freshness) and it wasn't served with any bread or a finger dipping bowl. With so much competition out there, you shouldn't have to ask for water, the waiter should know about the food, freshness is a must especially when eating seafood and constantly hassling waiters to just do their job spoils the experience.

A great meal- delicious seafood marinara- homemade spaghetti with generous amount of quality seafood and served in a pot! Had the white sauce without cream. Excellent service and very nice ambience outside.

Hungry Coeliac & Vegan enjoy. My Literary friend had come down from Queensland for her Swinburne Graduation ceremony at the Melbourne Convention Centre. Afterwards we wanted an early evening meal so we headed up to Lygon St Carlton at about 5pm. My idea was to just start window shopping & reading menus until we found meals to suit our dietary requirements and tastes. After about 3 possibly OK venues we found Seasons Provedore, and they had plenty of good choices for us. I went for the Seafood Hot Pot-full of yummy shellfish in tomato & chilli with a small loaf of G/free bread and my friend chose the Eggplant dish. The menu showed the Gluten Free choices clearly, and our questions were cheerfully answered. Wickedly rich G/free cake and great choice of non-alcoholic drinks suited us. Service, ambience, friendly staff and excellent food. My friend returned for breakfast the next day.
Mercy Nguyen
Customer service was good, however the lasangne we ordered was cold, it was asked to be reheated but even after that the middle was still cold but we didn't want to be a hassle so just ate it. soggy. Lasangne was charged $20 but the menu advertised as $14. The calamari salad was quite nice but the chips that came along with them were soggy.
Overall not exactly a good experience that we would've expected

Perfect for lunch or afternoon tea.. Seriously, this place was given bad reviews?? The food is fantastic and delicious! Focaccias are to die for.. and so are the cakes;) Glad i was introduced, its my new favourite haunt on Lygon...
Danydebz
I love a lazy weekend, especially starting the day with... the famous bacon and eggs. I was very disappointed when I received my breakfast, really if you can't cook an egg......don't have it on the menu!
P.s would also be nice to have/offer butter with your toast!

Very friendly staff, reasonably priced, delicious food, would highly recommend a visit to check it out for yourself :)

How does this get 86% likes?! The food is so average verging on poor. We asked about portion sizing and the girl said they were ok size for us. A mum and a girl of 14. First though, the waitress didn't know anything about the oysters when I asked. How can you not know about where there from or whether they got them in that day? Our starter of whitebait was good. The garlic bread was a mess of dripping butter and garlic from a jar. The main of shanks was the size of a small mountain and cold. My daughters chicken Parma was burnt on the outside and she had to scrape the mozzarella off as it was about 1cm thick. We were asked if we wanted salad or Veges with the meal. We both said salad. My daughter got her salad. I was brought Vegies. When I explained I was supposed to be getting salad she said "well no it comes with vegies". Seriously average

Been here once before and even though the service was poor, we decided to give it another go. We came for dessert and were promptly sat down at a table outside. However, when we ordered our cakes, the waiter and the boss came out to tell us that the outside tables were only for people having dinner. At no point did they think to ask us when we were being seated if we were having dinner or dessert or did they tell us about this when we made our orders. For the rest of our time there they kept staring at us and making us feel unwelcome. It is unacceptable to be treated like this when we are paying money and when it is obviously their fault for not making it clear when they sat us down!!! Will not be returning to be treated like table stealers and to feel as though they just want to turf us out!!

Sorry to say - but I have been dropping in to this cafe for a while now and the service has been slowly going DOWN HILL....... Very slow!! And lots of mistakes!! Will not be going back!!!!

Best gnocchi I have ever eaten. We stumbled across this place for an early dinner on a Monday afternoon and it we couldn't have considered ourselves luckier. The staff were friendly and helpful, and had a good knowledge of the menu and food. As vegetarians, there were excellent options for a tasty and fulfilling meal which - as many places tend to do - did not seem like a meaty meal just with the meat removed. (We were also informed that the chefs are vegetarians.)

We saw the pasta being freshly made in the front window, and the gnocchi I had was like nothing I had ever had before - it truly melted in my mouth, and was the most remarkable texture. I had it with butter and sage sauce and would recommend it to anyone with a digestive system! My partner had a fantastic selection from the specials menu, and was equally pleased by the food.

I wish I lived in Melbourne so I could visit here weekly, what a wonderful experience and I cannot rate highly enough the gnocchi. Did I mention the gnocchi was amazing??

Great food - great service. Have eaten here a few times now and has always been good, staff are great and the owner is really welcoming and happy to chat. Best on Lygon, owner does really good coffee too. Great when you know you can trust that you will get a great meal everytime

To say that our dinner here was a shambles is an understatement. After arriving we were sat within inches of another table - sharing a meal with strangers is not ideal on Valentine's Day. We were forgotten about for a while before given a menu and being asked if we'd like a drink. Before we even opened the menu to check, the waiter said 'water then' and disappeared. The garlic bread was barely cooked and was covered in garlic from a jar, most of which was then scraped off and onto the plate by us. Our mains arrived before we finished the bread and we were barely halfway through a beer - but they were the wrong meals. A 2 minute gap and a bit more beer later and they were there... The pasta was a positive, very nice. The chicken roulade with king prawn... Well, the chicken was ok. The mustard potato was like the garlic bread - completely mustardised, and drowning in oil. The 'king' prawn? A king joke, it was the size of a fingernail. I pointed this out to the waiter and he just laughed. Being picky but some of the cherry tomatoes in the salad still had their stalks and leaves on them. Seriously disappointing - we wanted and expected a nice dinner but the whole thing was rushed and chaotic, average food and the crowded tables felt like I was 16 years old on a double date.

Simply amazing, had the chicken and avocado pasta, home made. The best I have eaten for only 14.90. I would recommend this over any place on lygon street. Value for money without the hard sell.

Had a lovely meal last night... The gnocchi were perfect as was the Eggplant Parma from the specials menu! Lovely service was a bonus!

Mediterranean in Carlton. Date night with the misses. The meals were delicious, very tasty and well presented. Only draw back was we had to share a table with other people because the downstairs indoor section was a bit small.. re: crap.

Good choice in restaurant 'crowded' Lygon St. Carlton. After having made a booking, only the day before we dined and having asked for a table inside, we were greeted with the comment that there were no available table for us inside. To their credit, they did offer us a free entree and we sat outside. Outside, the heater was working, but noisily!! The tables that we had were on a slope, so I felt I was dining on a ship always listing a bit to one side!! Their gnocchi and tortollini are good, but the lasagne was not heated through properly and had to be reheated. The main courses here are good value and you can BYO. The service was very professional and friendly.

Great customer service, friendly and informative without being pushy like some others on this street. Amazing food, very reasonably priced with good coffee. Highly recommended.

Yummy, Yummy. Went seasons for early dinner on Sunday night. Just picked it out of all the others as we walked by. Lucky me...
It was fantastic. My daughter had soup of the day - minestone and the the steak. I had the chicken rolled with avocado and mustard sauce with mash - divine. My mum had the house special gorgonzola chees gnoche and said it was the best she'd ever had.
Great food, great service, great ambiance and great price.....couldn't ask for anything better.
Well done to the staff and management.
You know it's good when the place is full...There was a wait for table by the time we left. Good the get there early.

I had the spinach and ricotta canelloni and it was delicious! Very impressed.
Coffe With Friends
Fabulous Frappe. Hot day needed a cool coffee alternativebut not just milky ice coffee with ice cream. After 10 tries finally found somewhere in Lygon St that made a frappe and it was fabulous and worth the walking.

Friendly, helpful staff and affordable & delicious food! The only thing I'm upset about is that I'm far too satisfied to crawl over to the gelato place next door for dessert!

Amazing the best on lygon st

Very dissapointed. Burnt our coffees twice, served very burnt toast, mushrooms and hash browns with our meals. Slow service and staff wash rent very understanding. Will not be returning

Better with the gelato next door. Our experience with this restaurant was not positive in any way. Perhaps I should have been prepared when the waiter was not able to tell me what one of the sauces was. His explanation that he "isn't aware what that sauce is" was less than helpful. Upon ordering 12 oysters my friend promptly spat the 6th one into a napkin. The oysters were sent back and we were told they were fresh and we still have to pay for 50% of the dish. Imagine having to pay for the privelage of spitting food into a napkin on Lygon Street. Massive fail, kitchen unable to take responsiblity for off seafood, and disrespectful response to a legitimate complaint.

Great Egg Breakfast. Great place for breakfast. Staff are friendly and their variations on the traditional scrambled egg breakfast are very tasty!

A must try for breakfast in Lygon St. I was over from Perth and ate at the Season Provodore by happenstance. I wouldn't normally bother adding a review but I think its good to say well done when its so true. The food was excellent. I thoroughly recommend the Eggs Florina, a lovely meal of poached eggs, salmon, and spinach on muffins with hollandaise sauce.
The coffee too was refreshingly well made without a touch of bitterness.
Paula
BEAUTIFUL FOOD & SERVICE. Dined here recentlywith my daughter after reading great reviews on urbanspoon. Was not disappointed. Delighted at quality of fresh and tasteful food. Most impressed to see staff make fresh pasta then served to us topped with the freshest mix of ingredients. Service was exceptional by all members of staff and we cant wait to dine here again next time in Melbourne.Only suggestion would be more comfortable seating inside.
Andrew
Good friendly service and enjoyable food. I had an enjoyable and filling seafood pot.

Made Fresh Before My Eyes!. I watched the lady making the gnocchi right before my eyes then it came out on a plate in front of me with a delicious sage and butter sauce! OMG! And the cakes - I'm drooling! Loved this place. Sat inside on the bench seats - would have liked to sit outside on the chairs and tablecloth laden tables but it was too cold (even though there is a big bank of heaters - I am sensitive!) plus we are non smokers and people were smoking at their tables. Overall we loved this place and the service was attentive and pleasant.

I absolutely love this place , I have been to nearly every cafe in Lygon in the last few years and this tops them all .I am there nearly every day with my workmates who introduced me to this cafe / restaurant . So good that I am taking my Friends and gf there right now from caulfield . Best coffee and the chef during the week is the bees knees. I suggest a thing from the breakfast menu

Fabulous. My name is Christine, I often lunch on Lygon st with my girlfriends and stumbled upon Seasons Provedore, passing by i saw in the window display a pizza i have never seen before and was quite intrigued to have a piece. We ordered a few dishes to share between us. I had a slice of the pizza which had brocolli, gorgonzola and caramelised onions, the flavours were amazing, sweet and savoury at the same time, i did not expect this from something with brocolli on it. The other dishes we ordered was a pasta which had figs and fetta in it, the flavours exploded in your mouth sweet and savoury and creamy at the same time, it was simply delightful but the most explosive dish was one of the breakfasts we ordered called the spice girls which consisted of poached eggs on roasted tomatoes, bacon, muffins and wait for it drizzled with hollendaise sauce with chilli in it, again the flavours were amazing, the eggs were perfectly cooked and the plate was beautifully decorated with this sweet balsamic squiggle of sauce. It was definately an experience we will never forget and we will surely be lunching there again and again to try more of the delicious looking meals on display. Certainly great value for money, excellent customer service and the coffee was just perfect. Well done Seasons, it's not often you head out to Lygon st where the food dares to be a little different from the rest. Lygon st is very well known as little Italy and most cafes we've dined in have basically the same meals from one end of the street to the other. I'm not often bothered to even care about wasting my time in writing reviews but this one is a winner and deserves to be shared. Compliments to the chef and staff, absolutely fabulous.

FANTASTIC SERVICE, FOOD AND PRICING. The business I work for started using Seasons Provedore for catering after we had bad dealings with 2 previous companies. They always deliver when requested, the presentation is amazing and they charge spot on!
I then organised the delivery of an assortment of sweet and savoury muffins for an event and the communication was fantastic. They charged a lot lower than any company I came across, created specialty muffins we needed, offered samples, tasted spectacular and were the nicest, easiest people to deal with!
The staff gobbled them up and couldn't stop talking about them!

I'm referring Seasons to as many people as I can and will never consider anyone else to get food from.

Give them a try! They go out of their way to be of service and everything is always tasty!

Response to "Better with the gelato next door". My name is Fernando and I am one of the managers of Seasons Provedore.

I apologise to Casey Cree and her friend for the poor experience they had at our restaurant. It was a mistake on my part to have not refunded the full amount of the dish that she complained about.
At the time, knowing the oysters were fresh, I could not understand what had happened with her meal and so had the kitchen check the remaining oysters. At least three were tasted with a positive response each time.
Even so, as a guest at our restaurant it is up to us (as Casey said) to take full responsibility for every dish that goes out and I do that now with that dish. We take full responsibility for every dish we produce. I trust Casey and her friend were at least satisfied with the rest of their meal.
As a gesture of good will, I would welcome Casey and her friend back for a meal at our expense. Please contact us on 9347 3585.
Regarding the staff member that did not know the sauces, it was probably one of our newer staff. We have improved our training to reduce this incidence.

The majority of our guests are very happy with the service, food, and pricing - as can be seen by the other feedback. I welcome honest feedback - as a way of ensuring we deliver improvements to the dining experience of our guests.

Fernando Longo

-----11 Jan, 2011-----

Re: Not Happy Jan. I am one of the Seasons Provedore Managers. My name is Fernando Longo.
This entry is in response to the entry by theallreds titled "Not Happy Jan". I'll keep my entry short:
1. I take full responsibility for the quality of service meted out between 11 and 12 that day. No excuses.
2. I had been told it would be busy but had not expected more than four times our normal Sunday morning crowd. So, yes, next New Years Day we will have more competent staff but I'll personally ensure our systems are working effectively and we have additional staff to ensure all who attend are served with grace and quickly.
3. Yes, the coffee is good.
4. Yes, the food does look good. Based on very positive feedback from regular clientele I also believe it is of a high quality - and provided at a reasonable price.
5. To show the above are true, I invite you to put us to the test and come and try us out at 50% off our regular weekend prices - for the month of January . This offer is specifically for "Allthereds" and anyone else who was negatively impacted on the day. It is also available anyone else on urbanspoon who is willing to give us a go.

Not Happy Jan!. New Years Day 2011 - hoping for a great breakfast. Lots of customers and food looked inviting. Sat outside & waited - had to ask for a menu. Waited some more & then discovered that it was quicker & seemed the norm to go inside and order direct. Coffee did come and was a very good cup of coffee. Waited more and watched as one of the two waitresses became more confused and flustered. Appeared with food and coffee but had no idea which table to take it to. Commented that they had only prepared for a certain number of people and therefore they were run off their feet. We asked where our food was and she said "Haven't you had your food yet?" No!! Some food arrived for an adjoining table who had ordered a long time after us. It wasn't what they had ordered and so it went back inside. Minutes later it came out via the other waitress asking if we had ordered these particular dishes. We had - placed on our table but with no utensils with which to eat it. Upon inspecting the food we found it to be cold - wonder why? We then expressed our dismay at the service and requested our money back. This was reluctantly given but all the time saying they were just so busy. It was now 11.30am and we still hadn't had breakfast and felt very disappointed at the experience. Maybe next year if they plan on being open New Year's Day it would pay to have more and competent staff on, otherwise stay closed.

I had the Broccoli, sweet peas and dill soup; it came with some buttery croutons on top and soy and pumpkin seed bun on the side. I loved the soup; the taste of broccoli really came through, and it was such a joy to eat. but the side bread was a little dry and tough though.
