Review Delhi Streets Indian Street Food - Melbourne

Melbourne Food Travel
Great food! They do superb pani puri, butter chicken, and gulab jamun. We brought guests from India to this place and they loved it too. Papri chaat was also nice with perfect balance of flavours. Place is very tiny and is packed every night so it is recommended to book. For more: IG: MelbourneFoodTravel

We walked in at 5.31 on a Tuesday night and the place was already packed. The food took a while to arrive but was reasonably tasty. We had a Pani puri and 2 special thali with butter chicken, chick peas, mixed veg and beef vindaloo, mixed veg and dhal makhni with a masala chai to finish off. The Pani puri, butter chicken, chicken peas and dhal were beautiful. We weren't so impressed with the rest. The masala chai was completely disappointing - it had no spice and tasted like a tea made from tea bag steeped in hot water with some milk.

The ambiance is pretty good of this place. Chicken biryani, thali & Chana bhatura is highly recommended. Papri Chat could be much better. Although the staff is a little negligent & rude therefore 3.5 stars

Yummy food...pani Puri and Allu tikki chat is the best...I tried the vegetarian Thali and it was delicious...the Thali is quite reasonable and filling...the restaurant has a retro Bollywood decor which I loved..service can be a bit slow during peak times but overall a nice place and hygienic too.i am a regular visitor now 😄😄

Been here a few times and the food never disappoints. Service is pretty inconsistent, the place is small and it’s always packed so make sure to make a booking in advance.

So glad I visited on my short trip to Melbourne. It's been 8 months and I can't stop thinking about it! The pani puri and the bread pictured were so yummy and the staff were so helpful. I'll have to bring a jug of milk next time though cause my white taste buds were not surviving :P

Been here last night and the food was terrible. We ordered Dosa, pav bhaji and chaat. Masala dosa was filled with uncooked potatoes ( attached pic for reference) and Sambhar tasted like Daal with simple onion tomatoes tadka with no tamarind taste. Pav bhaji was bland with no namak mirch. And all of the above we ended up paying 44 for these 3 things which were all disappointing

The best indian food I have ever had in my life. It was so good. All the spices hit the spot. <3

Insta: melbfoodie_mark<br/>YT: MelbFoodieMark<br/>-<br/>Trendy Indian restaurant near Yarra River. Relatively big portion with different curries to try from! My favourite one was butter chicken.. it was richer than most I've tried before. Highly recommend :)

It is the best Indian in Melbourne. Amazing service, great prices and out of this world food. They also have street food, with restaurant quality. They are very friendly and respectful. Very professional. I go there once a week.

Delicious authentic Indian thali. Took us right back to India.<br/>

The starters /chaats were the highlight for us. We sat in the restaurant and the setting is funky, so worth visiting!

Justify the taste and golgape platter is really worth it. I could feel the same taste. Also enjoy chole bhature, they have really good range of menu. Loved it.

Lovely staff, food is great! Lots of glutenfree options. Will be going back!

Being Indian I love Indian. Food. Delicious food and generous staff. Love this place and will always come back. Whatever this place does please don’t change the butter chicken 🤤🤤<br/>

Got the Tiffin Service for 2 and was surprised that we were actually able to select the chaat and entrees ourselves. Out favorites were the pumpkin daal and lamb curry. The service was prompt and efficient and the food was very tasty! You can see the care they put into their service, food, and cleaning right now as restrictions are slowly being lifted. I definitely appreciated that. The space is cozy and has a nice atmosphere with a bunch of bollywood posters on the wall. You can look into the kitchen to see them making the naan too! I would definitely come back :)

Delhi streets do such excellent take away! The food always arrives fresh and tastes delicious. Generous portions and great value. 10/10

Full of flavour! Ideal for someone who loves a good flavour hit, with a hint of spice. The vibe at the place is awesome! Would recommend calling to check if they space, just to check if they are not to busy. I didn't have to since I went post rush-hour.
Jessica Orrey
The $15 thali is amazing value and very yummy!
Bethany
Very average food taste. Great value for money but don’t expect great flavours
HappyTummy
Staff was really nice. Delicious food

I had one of the thali, it was good. Good service and friendly staff. The place it's a bit small, though. Hope one day they'd get to expand.

Melbourne folk are probably spoilt for choice, but us NSW country bumpkins just felt spoilt at this gem. It’s tiny and super busy, so book ahead. The tastiest food , service efficient and wine decent. Cheap as papadums as well. You won’t go hungry, butter chicken was superb

The chaat platter is great
We.eat.travel.love
Indian food is mostly famous worldwide for it’s curries, but not many know or may not have tried what we love the most - CHAAT!!<br/>.<br/>.<br/>We both being from core Delhi - cannot praise more the most delicious Indian street food - chaat. And to our surprise we experienced the same flavours right here in Melbourne @delhistreets .<br/>.<br/>You must must try their Chaat platter which includes 4 of the best Chaat with most authentic flavour -<br/>* Samosa chaat - samosa dressed in chutneys and yogurt<br/>* Gol Gappa - crispy hollow balls filled with potato and chickpea and to be topped up with spicy mint water just before eating<br/>* Aaloo tikki - potato fritters dressed in mint and tamarind chutneys<br/>* Papri chaat - canapes deessed in mint and tamarind chutney and yogurt<br/>.<br/>.<br/>And not to mention for the real taste they need to be spicy.<br/>(Although you can ask for a mild version if you cannot handle spicy 🥵)<br/>.<br/>Not only that even their thali, frankie rolls and pizza is amazing as well. <br/>And as we know no meal is complete without sweets- so do try their kulfi which is amazing.<br/><br/>You must visit @delhistreets and try the food to experience that authentic delhi street food taste.

No point booking. Arrived there at the time of booking, only to be told we had to wait for people to finish. We noted it was a celebratory meal in the booking, rather disappointing. Chose another restaurant instead. The restaurant clearly cares more about turning tables rather than honouring customer service.
Neha Jain
Ordered Paneer dosa and it was the worst dosa I have ever had. The filling was bland and tasteless, dosa was so damn thick.
Sahil
Would have been a 5 star review if the portions were decent. The taste was great but the quantity of daal and sabzi were smallest I have seen in Melbourne.
Eatwithbonny
Ordered masala dosa which was huge. It came with spiced potatoes (spicy for me) served with coconut chutney & lentil based vegetable soup. <br/><br/>Also, we had thali with butter chicken and beef curries. Thali already came with naan, pappadum, rice and pickles. Curries and papadum were really good but rice wasn’t fragrance enough and naan was just okay. <br/><br/>Will I be back? I don’t mind

Really Disappointed with my visit, floating around the city decided to stop past this joint based on its review.<br/><br/>Amazing customer service by the female staff member who took our order.<br/><br/>And that's basically where it stopped,<br/><br/>Positive<br/><br/>Must try the cholera Poori 10/10<br/><br/>Masala Dosa was ok 6/10 (Filling was bland side, sambar was ok, would have been nice of the ratio dosa size to sambar was more appropriate. There was 1/2 a slice of tiny eggplant and a tiny drumstick and 1/4 cup if that of the sambar<br/><br/>3xSpecial thaali with 3 currys each.<br/>Matar Panner is 1/10<br/>Butter chicken was very generous with the sweet taste 3/10<br/>Beef curry 6/10<br/>Lamb curry 2/10 Lamb was so overcooked, and the tiny pieces allow it to overcook too quickly, not bad about the Coconut idea<br/>Didn't try shall<br/><br/>I have to say I asked for my thaali to be really hot and spicy and I got zero spice. I saw the curry and said to the different wait staff that its not hot, instead being told we added red chilli powder... um dont insult me when I specifically asked for it to be hot.<br/>I told her it was a dud and wasn't happy, I asked her for green chillies, in return got told to pay for it... um yeh ok I ask for a spicy kill it with chilli and get zero heat and I now I need to pay for what I want.<br/><br/>Will I visit again.... nope<br/><br/>We asked for a hug of water and got nothing.

The staff were really friendly! Both my friend and I enjoyed our time there! However, the food was not as spicy as we requested but the overall dining experience was great!
Michelle
I absolutely love this place! I’ve been here twice now and the food has been amazing both times! I love the Pani Puri here they are nice and spicy with a great flavour! I also love that they have so many vegan options clearly stated on the menu. I’ve also had the Veg Thali and Chana Bhatura here too and they were both amazing as well. Everyone I take here loves this place too! I will definitely come again and again and again 😋
Emily
Been here 4 times now and their chana bhatura is always so good!! We ordered the chaat platter to start - all of the starters had strong flavours. The chicken briyani were good, thank god they had mild version as it was already too spicy for us. The tandoori platter was good although the lamb kebabs were a tad dry. We will be back!!! Service was good too! Mango lassi wasnt sickly seeet, just nice!
Venetia Ratnoo
Amazing pain puri. Curried could’ve been a bit spicier and some more substantial veg options would be nice. But would definitely return. Loved the thali style menus and Chams bhatura was fab<br/>
GG
Food is good, tasty & authentic. But Place is too small and moreover to adjust more people mgmt has added more tables leaving no gap at all in between and you've to move table and squeeze every time. Even when staff clean table next to you, they will through all left over on floor instead of taking it away and putting it in bin.
Mrinal
Excellent place. A must must visit for Melbourne CBD
Rach
Super delicious Indian food! Note - this place is not the most cost-effective Indian food in the city. But it is very tasty, the staff are generally helpful and friendly and the ambience is great. I've been multiple times and will continue to do so!
Timinmelbourne
Walking past this place it had a good lunch crowd so I ordered a chicken tikka. <br/><br/>I’ve had some amazing Indian food in the CBD and unfortunately I’ve now had food at the other end of the spectrum.<br/><br/>I got take away which consisted of 3 small pieces of chicken and a wet mushy salad that I didn’t try! The chicken was ok but this place represents some of the worst value in Melbourne that I’ve ever experienced. <br/><br/>For $11 I could have got a lot of great dishes and now I’m hangry!! Overall extremely disappointing.
Jack Duck
Great little cafe serving authentic Indian street cuisine. Cosy to eat I but this adds to the experience. Great food at fantastic prices. Staff could not have been more helpful as we struggled with the menu. Will go again.
Ida Kristiansson
The food was very tasty, but the Thali's did not have enough curry. Only two tiny bowls. Paired with it was lots of rice, naan and a papadum which was all nice. But yeah, it just really wasn't enough of the curry, like AT ALL. I would like to see them adding at least one more small bowl for it to be enough. (I should add that we are not, by any means, big eaters). The ambiance is bustling and it was busy in the small dining space. The drinks were good and affordable. However, the waiting staff was quite annoying and we felt that they were constantly trying to speed up our time there, like they wanted us to leave asap. That was not a very nice feeling when we were trying to have a pleasant evening with friends. Overall I would give it 3.5 stars, but because the food was tasty I will tip it over to a 4.
Alice
This is one of my favourite restaurants. I always love coming here because the food is so good, the staff are so friendly, and the prices are extremely reasonable
Josie
Definitely hit this place up! A reservation might help although as everyone quite frankly loves this place. Tried the Thali, Pani Puri and they were just so so good. It was great in its own simplicity that I cant find words to say

We have been there a few times and every each single time they were Very friendly . The best quality of food in the city<br/>Well organised and very clean .

Wonderful experience. Second time here, this time with my whole fam of six. The food is amazing, the service is so friendly and welcoming and the vibes are brilliant. Definitely my fave place to eat in Melbourne. Thanks so much team. Looking forward to visiting again next time I’m in Melbourne.

Enjoyed the flavours of the food in this place, particularly the curries. This is definitely my new lunch spot. Would really like to try other food as well!

Fantastic food and great service! Absolutely love this place. We had the chaat platter, pav baaji and chicken biryani. Everything tasted great and are reasonably priced as well!

This is such as great Indian place with some dishes slightly more adventurous than your run-of-the-mill Indian takeaway place. The naan are excellent. I have tried the mixed thali and the choley puri (comes with big fluffy naans that are like balloons!) and have loved both. The rotating mix of curries means you can always get something different. The staff are great and this place is always full so I am glad they take bookings. The only thing is that if you make a booking you may still be seated at the bench seats (in a line along the window), if you are coming with a group it might be a good idea to ring beforehand and specify that you want a table where you can all face each other. I will be back!
Little Bit Of Everything
If you are looking to treat yourself with a Thali, Delhi Streets is your spot. You get to choose from a few different options for thali's. My favourite is the Goat thali and I have eaten it more than 10 times and I must say it tastes exactly the same every single time. Consistency with flavours and portions is the way to survive the competitive food industry. I have also tried their Butter Chicken and Special thali with vegetable curries which were very delicious. <br/><br/>For starters, I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and I can't pick a favourite because I like all of them. Great place to try out Indian street food, reasonably priced for the portions they serve. <br/><br/>Absolutely love their interiors and ambience. Friendly staff and the food is served pretty quick. Perfect for quick lunches or leisured dinners.

BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!! Best Indian food in Melbourne! Best value for money and incredible customer service! Highly recommend and would definitely return!

Just wanted to mention here that I am not satisfied with the service in this restaurant. I understand that its a much loved dining place and is always short of space to fit everyone but we should not forget the basic etiquettes of Indian hospitality. The guest should atleast feel welcomed and not be rushed thoughout the meals just because you have other bookings. You are serving mains without even clearing the starter plates. I suggested this place with lot of pride to my colleagues for good Indian food but made a fool of myself with the service we were provided that too when we booked almost 10 days in advance. I dont hold anything about food, its always good but you can definitely do better with your service.🙏
Swastika Poddar Goenka
This is just the right place if you want to eat something different in Indian cuisine. Their naan pizza is good and the chaat platter is a must eat. The only thing I felt is that the chaat platter gets very dry towards the end. Its a small place and the ambience is just casual, but definitely calls for a next visit.

Thank you for yet another AMAZING experience 💝💝 Taste ✅ Flavour ✅ Vibe ✅ <br/><br/>I decided after 2 recommendations, to come and try some Delhi Streets 🤔 WOW was I delighted 💖 I dined this evening with my Uncle from Sydney, a food lover and fabulous cook 😬😬 He was equally impressed with the flavour sensational food which is clearly cooked with love ❤️
Kim
Amazing vegan pani puri and thali! The naan in the thali was particularly good. I would prefer a bit more curry and less rice though. I'd also like to see vegan desserts.
Akshay Chadha
Hands down to the best Indian food in Melbourne, there are flavours are authentic and lip smacking. Will surely be visiting more to try other things.Keep up with the same taste 😊
Pandy
Hands down the best thali in Melbourne! Everything is on point at this place. The curries, naan, rice, all made to perfection. My personal favourite is the naan that comes with the thali, freshly made for each meal it’s fluffy and chewy, a perfect match for the curries. Service is friendly and efficient. I’m hooked!

Really Really good Indian food here at Delhi streets. For all the indians who love kingfisher, that have it here for $6. Really good starters and food!

I was in Melbourne for a solo mini break and read that this restaurant in the CBD won the (that's right, THE!) best cheap eat of 2016. So I thought... why not.<br/><br/>The decor was so artistically Melbourne! It had like street art of famous Indian pop culture icons (think Bollywood film posters) on their walls. I found it quite charming in its rather small size.<br/><br/>I got the goat thali for lunch. $16. Tbh I didn't have much expectations. It came with rice, naan, chapati, salad and Indian Style Pickles. The rice was appropriate. Naan was... so fresh OMG! They must have a real tandoor in the kitchen! Salad was quite good. Main ingredients of the salad was mainly lettuce and tomatoes. The curry was wonderfully, but not overly, spiced! The goat was real goat meat! Not lamb or any animal similar. GOAT! What a meal i had in Melbourne Town!I really wished I came with someone so I could of gotten the tiffin package. The staff are really friendly and professional. I hope they would win another award! I was tempted to give it 4.5 but, zomato doesn't do half stars!<br/><br/>If I ever do come down to Melbourne again, I would definitely come back again! Who knows, I might try their fusion pizza!
Rose Cook
I have dined at Delhi Streets on at least 15 occasions and it has never disappointed. The food is always of excellent quality, exciting and unique. It’s unlike any other Indian food I’ve eaten in Australia. The chaat platter is the highlight - a medley of Indian street food including the mouth-watering pani puri (little crispy balls with spiced water). The thalis are great value and the perfect lunch. The waiters are always friendly and attentive. The best value and flavours in town!
Lisa Eat More
Funky little place tucked away in the CBD. Got a spot without booking, but definitely recommended as it got busy very quickly. Food was good, small in portion. Go for the fun factor and the touch of flair.
Esptm🍫☕️
Reasonable priced thali, tiny bowls of ok curry, but the naan was the standout. As others mentioned, staff could be friendlier. We 2 were on corner table for 4 and employee made us move over & split table into 2, leaving me no way to exit, despite restaurant being half empty. We had to push table all the way out to leave.
Robin
You get a lot for what you pay for here. Some really good veggie options as well as meat choices. The place is tiny but has a really nice vibe about it. Perfect for a casual dinner with friends. Busy every time we walked by so if there’s a few of you you may need to book/be prepared to wait.
Adyasha Dash
Last weekend, me and my friends(3 in number) decided to munch on some Indian street delicacies. To my utter disappointment, we didn't get any reservation as the restaurant is always crowded. They could offer only a time after 2.5 hours. Moreover, the response from the staff was not so warm and they were so rude to drive their customers away. <br/><br/>It's quite obvious that we won't reserve 5-6 hours before unless and until its a big group.<br/><br/>I wish they would have been little bit more polite and accommodating.
Megha Agarwal
Have been a great fan of their food, especially the chhole bature, the pani puri and the rasmalai. However, have always been extremely annoyed of their service, the staff is nowhere close to sweet, in fact rude is the term. You go there coz you like the food here, and it seems like the staff believes that this attraction should be enough.
Raspy Fly
Alright, so being here in Melbourne for a month has left us craving for Indian chats (street food), esp. the pani puris. Really wished we could find an authentic place for these delicacies.<br/>We found this place last week and walked all the way down, to witness the tempting Zomato reviews. The place was crowded, giving an impression that obviously its running absolutely great!! To add, there were more non-Indians!!<br/><br/>You must be wondering why just two stars when everything seemed so perfect?? Well, that's because of what they served.<br/>My husband ordered Aloo Tikki chat and I went for the Pani Puris... to our utter disappointment, there were 5 puris with tiny cubes of aloo and few other things (and one puri had just 1 tiny aloo cube in it). That's so sad!<br/><br/>Though the taste was good but $9 for that plate was just too much! I mean we've trie different joints other than usual ones and they serve a good to great quantity. Why do most of the Indian joints serve this way to the customers??<br/><br/>
Nishant Kashyap
Keeping it short. $9 for 5 pani puri is definetly not worth it. I don’t understand but I I find it only with Indian joints in Australia that they never justify the quantity with whatever they are charging.
Nay Nay
This really is one of Melbournes hidden gems. Its tucked away and hidden. Given the name is 'Delhi Streets' it really does have the street food vibe, menu and prices. This place is the closest thing I have tried to anything in Delhi itself. A simple menu with well constructed dishes. Explosive and flavoursome curries. The food is made fresh daily and you can really tell. My only criticism was not enough chilli and heat. All the food is well presented and well portioned. Great service here. Staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The desserts are out of this world and take me back to the streets on Delhi.
Jacinta Magazzu
The food looked great but did not get a chance to eat it. We made a booking for 6:30 pm. The table was not ready and we were seated at 6:40pm and immediately told that the table would be required by 7:30, even though the booking confirmation advised that the table would be for 1 1/2 hours. We had booked with the intention of trying the Feed Me menu, however, determined that this would be insufficient time to eat and decided to go elsewhere. When we raised this concern with the staff, we were treated quite dismissively.

Delicious food and excellent service by Daisy 👍👍 If you try this restaurant don’t forget to try Samosa Chaat. I'd never been here before and I can't recommend it enough. First impressions were great the minute I walked in the door!
Kum Mo
Other day went to Delhi Streets, to have favourite Panipuri , Masala puri. It was a very very small place , Wow! what a welcome reception by Daisy with a courteous smile , she asks to wait few minutes and gives us table. Ordered favourite panipuri, masala puri and presto the way presented was so good , so also the taste very very authentic indian street food.In short to say, excellent hospitality by Daisy never seen before even though place is small big heart and mind for customers, one more thing to say is one can see Kitchen preparation through glass window is a new experience and totally satisfying when u eat the food. Also like to thank for courteous service by Ruby as well. Regards to all staff..
JennyC
I tend to visit this place for the delicious food, but now service is also stella. Great work guys.<br/><br/>Must try: samosas / thali/ Chana bhatura/ dosa.
Shutoutof-paradise
Really good quality food. Place is VERY small and got seated on one sided bench facing the kitchen despite making a reservation - would have preferred better seating. When busy the place got tight. Pani puri was good but not spicy at all
Vivek Shah
Tried the restaurant first time, selected purely based on zomato reviews. Chaats are nice taste is not too far from being authentic. Thalis are also good, however curry quantity for price in CBD doesn't do it justice. Sweets we ordered Rasmalai and Pistachio kulfi are probably better than Thali I would say. So Chaats & sweets are preferred over Thali. Ambience is definitely a plus point but they have space issues for big group like us, 8 people and space on the Table is also just a bit short of what is needed. Would come again for Chaats and Sweets but not for Thali although a lot of people write a good review about Thali, didn't make me feel like it for taste as well
Ranjit Raje
The perfect place to go if you are a fan of Indian street food. Finely blended recipes suitable for the taste buds of the locals as well as tourists, must visit when in Melbourne. The chaat dishes, pizza naans and special thalis are few of the dishes that’ll make your day and ensure that you visit again! Be it a snack or a complete meal, Delhi Streets is worth a try! Very much in the heart of the Melbourne CBD; well connected by trains (Southern cross station) which is a 5-7 mins walk and also by trams on Collins street and Flinders street.
Mikayla Cooch
Enjoyed my experience here! I really love this place! Decided to try it once with my friends and the naan bread is so fluffy and you can see them making it from scratch and the curries are so nicely flavored. Would go back again!
Anna
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. Firstly, the staff were lovely and were very efficient with seating and ordering. The food was of a high quality, especially at the price. It was very much worth it! Delicious and will definitely come back.
LeixD
I really love this place! Decided to try it once and came back a few more times after that. The place gets quite packed at night so may also be best to book.<br/>I usually always get the Thali which is soo worth it in my opinion and leaves me super stuffed! The naan bread is so fluffy and you can see them making it from scratch & the curries are so nicely flavoured. The pani puri here is also a must try.<br/>Customer service wise is pretty good, the only thing I’ve noticed is that the food doesn’t seem to come out at around the same time, especially if you’re with a bigger group. Other than that, can’t complain too much.
UNO
Very average quality food. They’ve over done the sauce and limited the veg and meat. They haven’t even attempted to make up for it on portion size
Gaurav Raheja
Food - 3.5<br/>Staff - 2<br/><br/>I've been to this place twice as I wanted to have all the best rated items here. Day one I tried their Mix Thali and ordered for Butter chicken and Dal for take away but, there was no Dal makhni and I got only chicken makhni. Butter chicken was okie dokie and not as expected. It's made to suit the local palette and don't expect to be like Delhi. Pista kulfi is also average.<br/>Day two I had Pani puri and chhole bhature.<br/>Both were good but nothing special about it. There was tamarind sauce in both the items, in the puris of pani puri and in Chhole as well. I reckon they should ask/inform if the customer wants that tamarind chutney in chhole. Chhole are not the black ones that you get in Delhi's streets.<br/>Lastly, There wasn't any apology for the wrong items they give in takeaway as it's a small busy place and they don't have time at all!<br/>P. S: Don't expect to be welcomed at their exact opening hours as they are busy inside and don't bother about people waiting outside.
Nicole P
Colleagues have been raving about this place so we decided to give it a try. It is small so worth booking. <br/><br/>Food was outstanding. I had a two curry thali, with the butter chicken and matak paneer. My favorite was the butter chicken but both were excellent. The naan here is probably one of the best around. <br/><br/>I also snuck in the chocolate naan. MY GOODNESS. Favourite dessert in the city. Only $5 and was indulgent without being overwhelming. I would stop past here for one just for a snack. <br/><br/>Good prices. I was hungry so a meal and a dessert was perfect size - the meals themselves are good size but the curry portions aren’t massive.
Bethany Calwell
Food is pretty good here. The pistachio kulfi Ice cream was really really creamy and delicious. The Gulab jamon is good, the food takes a very long time to come out even though it isn't that busy.  Big servings and everything is packed full of flavor. Good quality ingredients as well. I’ve always had good service too, which keeps me going back. I recommend.
Meg Eats Everything
Ordered:<br/>- Chana Bhatura (Spiced chickpeas drizzled with tamarind chutney, served alongside  with Indian fried bread and pickled onions) $15<br/>- Butter Chicken Thali (Large serve of butter chicken served with rice, naan, pappadum, and pickles) $15<br/><br/>I really like the presentation of the food served at this place! You are also given quite a lot for the price which makes it a more affordable meal. The food and flavours were delicious and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. It felt like a real, authentic Indian experience and I can’t wait to come back here again soon! <br/><br/>Ps, blame 김영권 for no food pics of the Chana Bhatura hahaha
Ellie Leahy
Great food and super reasonable. Was very busy so the service was a little slow, but still friendly and helpful. Highly recommend if you’re at this end of the city!
Humayun Mughal
A fantastic place, marvellous food, a very good service. They service was also quick despite that the place was packed. I will definitely come back. A word of advice please make a reservation before hand

We had a great dinner here for Diwali. The atmosphere is great and the food was delicious. Menu is a bit limited but has delicious food<br/>We chose Delhi Streets because it had a few veg and vegan options.

I have walked past Delhi Streets so many times and it’s always busy, day and night so I am desperate to find someone who is willing to try it with me. Thankfully one of my colleagues heard great things about it too and he wanted to go as well.<br/><br/>We got a entree chaat platter to share. Most of the food on it was good, especially the pani puri but not as good as the ones in Aagnan in Footscray. <br/><br/>Next up was the cheese wrap. This was extremely bland. I had one bite and decided it was not worth the calories.<br/><br/>We had an assorted tandoori plate and that was ok. The chicken drumstick and sausage were actually a bit dry but the other chicken pieces were succulent.<br/><br/>We also had a ricotta cheese infused with saffron condensed milk. We couldn’t really taste the saffron but my friend loves it. <br/><br/><br/>To be honest, we are both quite disappointed with the offering. I don’t know how they got named the Good Food Cheap Eats winner? There are so many other good Indian restaurants in Melbourne.<br/>
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:<br/>+ Aloo Tikki Chaat<br/>+ Chicken Biryani<br/>+ Special Thali<br/>+ Pistachio Kulfi Ice Cream<br/><br/>Delhi Street is a delightful little eatery in a hidden back street of Melbourne serving some of the most flavoursome Indian street dishes that makes you want to come back for more! I came here for lunch with some friends and really liked all the dishes that we had ordered. I particularly liked the chicken biryani, which had bags of flavour and pretty moorish. The aloo tikki chaat was a taste sensation with the potato cakes covered with a thick, savoury, slightly sour and textural sauce. The special thali was a generous mix of curries (all really well done) with a selection of naans and fragrant rice. The chicken tandoori pizza was packed with chicken, cheeses on a naan pizza base which was surprisingly good. And the pistachio ice cream was a nice way to round off the dish, refreshing and fragrant. Prices were very reasonable for what you get, and service bright and cheerful. Would definitely be back!

As the name suggests this restaurant in Melbourne is famous for its delhi street food and and the style to cook this food is same as the delhi and food tastes so nice.

Pani Puri is a thumbs up (although i think its too pricey for its amount), Thali (esp the beef thats very soft and tasty it magically melts in your mouth), Chicken Tikka (JUICY and well marinated), and their heavenly naan that's so soft. The only thing i dint enjoy much was their chai (kinda bland and not enough spices for me, needs more cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon in my opinion). If you want your curry to be spicy, don't forget to remind them to make your thali "indian spicy". Service was quick despite being fully packed! 👍
Some Bunee Loves Food
Food is pretty good here. The pistachio kulfi Ice cream was really really creamy and delicious. The gulab jamon is OK, the food takes a very long time to come out even though it isn't that busy.
Ankit Bhasin
The food is good but the staff is not very friendly. One of the waitresses with glasses is always chewing gum and is rude. Just be polite guys and it’s all good.
Eat. Sleep. Create. Repeat.
My colleague strongly recommended their “snack platter” ( An easier name to me, plz refer my photo) and the portion is for 2 (girls). Each bite has rich flavours and textures, it made my day! Lunch time was quite busy and crowded in this tiny place so prepare a quick meal instead of laidback here.
Hungry Critic
This is a small restaurant situated in catherine place and serves authentic Indian food. Its a very small place and is always extremely busy, so make sure you book a table in advance. <br/><br/>We ordered mix grill platter which was amazing and consisted of tandoori chicken, chicken tikka and seekh kabab. The quantity of platter was enough for 2 people.<br/><br/>In mains we had vegetarian thali and mix thali. Thali consists of curries, rice and 1 naan. The quantity of curries is small. Curries are delicious and mild spicy. Naan was ok. <br/><br/>Its a must visit place if you miss authentic Indian food and also not very heavy on pocket.<br/><br/>Service could be improved.

Went in expecting to see the classic Indian menu and ended up finding the one place where I will keep going back every time I can. Everything from the decor to the ambience to the staff and the food is a big thumbs up for Delhi Streets. Tried the Tandoori Chicken Pizza Naan and the Chicken Frankie - loved both of them! The chicken was succulent and the Tandoori masalas were incorporated so well in the dish that it was love at first bite! Definitely going back again for more Bollywood feels and great food.

If you like Indian food you must try this place. Authentic Indian cuisine served traditionally. Big servings and everything is packed full of flavour. Good quality ingredients as well. I’ve always had good service too, which keeps me going back. I recommend.

Tucked in one of the many many Melbourne laneways lay this Bollywood theme looking restaurant. Arrived there just before lunch and it was buzzing! Ordered the Goat Biryani since it was on their specials. Was somewhat impressed, the biryani wasn’t exactly as oily like other places, meat was tender and boneless. Overall it was flavourful and spicy. It just needed to be a little more spice for that kick. I also reckon the meat and rice wasn’t cooked together hence didn’t have the strong gaminess of the goat. Would I go back again? I don’t see why not.

If you are craving for genuine Delhi style street food, this is the place to be in Melbourne! Great chat options (the papri chat was the right level of crispy and the tangy chutney on top of it was very flavorful), filling Chana bhatura (reminded me of how it is back home). The kulfi could be better as it turned out to be too sweet! The ambience is bright and catchy with fast service..

Great food. Had the special Thali and the Chaat Platter. Spicy hot!. Very tasty! Service could be a bit better but it’s a busy place and it’s the food you go for. Would go back again.

Everything in that picture was amazing. Had the pani puri to start with, it was so so good my partner and I devoured it in seconds!<br/>Service was friendly, fast and efficient but be sure to book as they do get busy and full house of patrons (understandably so as the food was incredible).

Really beautiful options for snacking as well as for a meal. I ordered aloo tikki chaat because I was craving something flavoursome. The dish did not disappoint. Service was really quick despite them being quite full. Another time I went with a group of friends from work and we ordered lots of dishes to share such as Pani puri, pav bhaji, ras malai, gulab jamun and gajar ka halwa. What can I say, we have a massive sweet tooth haha.

This place is well worth a visit, good quick service and real value for money. Portions are small but tasty <br/>I would go back again<br/>Would be great for a quick lunch

Went there for lunch today and was impressed with the food and atmosphere. I was in India a few weeks back and the quality and authenticity was similar to what I ate there. In fact I had a few Indian people with me today and they agreed this was one of the best Indian restaurants they had been to while in Melbourne.<br/>

This place is lovely!! The food is so super yummy and there were many dishes that i have never tasted before! i went once with my friend from India and she said it was authentically south and north Indian. I went back again for my bf birthday and the staff were so friendly and even gave us a cake with a candle. My friends who came for the party were also all raving about the food. All in all great experience! Even the bill was extremely affordable!
Nomnom123
Absolutely a gem find! Went in for dinner and ordered their shared platter and a curry set...the food was delicious and at a very reasonable price. I would rate it 5* if the service was a bit better..overall a total recommend if anyone is keen on trying Indian street food!
DK
The food is extremely tasty and authentic Indian. The number of people patronizing the restaurant clearly indicates the good quality of food served. It’s a family run restaurant and have a homely touch to it. The chaats are authentic. We visited the place twice in 3 days and maybe once more before we leave Melbourne. Indians are culinary kings for sure. Cheers. Keep it up.

Without any doubt, the BEST Indian food that I have experienced in Melbourne is out here. This is the closest you can get to experiencing authentic Indian food. The other Indian restaurants in Melbourne or dare I say Australia have toned their tastes and spices down to suit the taste buds of the local Australians but not this place. I am absolutely in LOVE with their mix grill platter which consists of Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Lamb Seekh Kebab with that coriander chutney that makes you feel as if you are in India. For the chaat lovers, do try their chaat platter and it’s something that will bring you back to this place over and over again. Their Cholley Bhatturey is authentic North Indian. Their Nan’s and Chapatis are perfectly done. Their Carrot Halwa and Rasmalai is to *die* for. I would give a hugeeeeeee thumbs up 👍 to this place and would recommend everybody to try this place if they like Indian cuisine. Cheeeers!
Gabriela
Loved the food and ambience. Nice place to try a couple of interesting street food bites.<br/>Also my favourite curries were the butter chicken and the slow cooked goat. I will come back to try more!

Small restaurant nestled nicely in Katherine place near Southern cross station. The food and the ambience takes you back to India ! Tried chole bhature and it is really good. Chaat platter is awesome though would like Samosa a bit spicy. The desert dishes are good and I liked Ras Malai. Gajar halwa could be a bit more sweet. The taste really caters for Australian palate but you could also order Indian hot/spicy if you want. One of the problem is that it is always busy and booking is recommended. Even after booking you have to vacate in an hour. So those long Friday lunches is tricky if you are planning it here.
Deniz
The chana bhatura is seriously incredible. So many different, delicious, and complementary flavours. I don’t think I could fault a single element of this dish. It’s absolutely perfect. I’ve tried a few different things from the menu and even the ‘worst’ dish is absolutely awesome. I think everything on the menu would be worth trying, but the chana bhatura is truly a MUST TRY. I actually think this might be Melbourne’s best Indian food. Many traditional dishes with a unique or modern twist. The service is fast and friendly enough, and the pricing is pretty decent. The location is a little obscure, but close to Southern Cross and Flinders St so fairly accessible. I highly recommend it!
What
The food is alright. I get it they are busy, the staff is plain rude and have no idea how to treat customers. Keep up the behaviour and you will soon see the crowds dwindling away.

Amazing!! PAANI PUUURIIIIZZ IS A MUST TRY 😍 KEEP IT UP GUYS! OMG THE GULAB JAMUNS! The best gulabs i’ve had in melbourne soo far.. GIVING UT SO FRESH n HOT IS THE BEST PART ❤️

Wow Wow Wow simply amazing Indian food in the heart of Melbourne. Beautiful family serving overwhelming food. Small setup warm service. The best mutton briyani I had overseas. Simply superb. Must try restaurant. Chicken tikka and butter chicken is also very good. Special mentions pappadam. ITS A MUST FOR INDIAN FOOD LOVERS. Go and Dig Inn
Tasteforyourbuds
This is my favourite contemporary Indian restaurant. Prices are amazing for the quality and quantity delivered. Highly recommended guys. The chicken Bryani is good!
Louise
The food here is great and is generously portioned. The low star rating isn’t about the food, it’s the service/ambience that lets this restaurant down. Every time we go, we struggle to get a table (without a booking) and then are rushed in and out really quickly.

Had been ages since I ate proper Indian chaat. Went here to fulfill my cravings. The place was jam packed when i went on a normal weekday. We had to wait for 20 minutes to get a seat. The place is slightly cramped and you will feel this when you have to come to it in a group. We ordered the chat platter and couple of thalis. The chat has dishes like pani puri, samosa, papdi chat and was very good. The thali has good serving of curry and roti. But I was disappointed with the rice as it wasn't well cooked. We finished our meal with some Indian dessert like halwa and rasmalai.
Rohan
Small little restaurant on Katherine Place. Had heard so much about the place and finally got the chance to go and try their food. Got the Aloo Tikki Chaat. Tikki was excellent but the chole and the chutneys didn't go well together with the tikki. Then got the non veg thali with Lamb Rogan Josh and Butter Chicken. Lamb was decent but the Butter Chicken was way too sweet. Disappointed as it did not live up to the hype.
Hungry Hieu
A great find situated in a small street. The store is not very big with limited seatings but with good service. Highly recommend the food as they are flavourful and delicious. The chaat platter is great for starters as you can try 4 different signature entrees which gives you a combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavours across the different texture entrees. If you're unsure of what curries to try, you can opt for the special thali as it comes with 3 curries of choice from the 5 on offer partnered with naan, papadum, and rice. Curries are served mild unless specify so let the staff know if you like yours spicy.
Vishwanath Nanjundashetty
Food was alright. Ladies in the restaurant who serve food worry little about customers just as the place. we were literally throw out after we finished the food. My very good Singapore friends evening nightmare was Delhi streets.

Wow. The food was amazing. We went the $35.00 Feed Me Tiffin. We had such a variety of foods. The food was amazing. Such beautiful flavours. Especially liked the butter chicken and the Rohan josh. The staff were so friendly. We will definitely be back.

Love this place. Limited seating space, but this is a great place to try Indian street food. I’ve never had Indian street food before so I’ve got nothing to compare to, but the flavours are mind blowing. Staff is lovely and helpful. I got pani poori and the chat platter it was soo good.
Mi.
I love the food and the ambiance. It is much different than traditional Indian restaurant. It is more of funky style for the concept of street food which I love. I would of rated 5 since I loved all the food I had. However, 2 down points go for one of the cranky staff. We went into the restaurant on Sunday night it was little bit busy. We were not fully entering the restaurant since there was another group waiting to go out, and we were waiting to know if we had seats. And immediately one of the staff told us to close the door in not so friendly way. There were 2 staffs on the floor at the time. In the end, after we made the payment, we realised they charged us for 2 mango lassi while we ordered one. The counter girl stated the problem to the the other staff. Instead of apologising us, she just turned her back and walked off in a not-really-care attitude in front of us which was not really nice. <br/>In general me and my friends will definitely go back there for the food and to try the rest of the interesting menu. Pani puri is something you must try. (We ordered 2, it was great). And the pizza is recommended too. Hope we will be serviced better next time.
Linda
Love this place!!!<br/>A diverse menu with heaps of options as to how you want to be feed (one curry, two curries, three curries or all you can eat!)<br/>Everything is well cooked. All the breads/pastries are soft, fluffy or crunchy/crispy where needed.<br/>The curries are delicious and so are the entrees and dosas. The only criticism is the lack of seating, so make sure you book before hand. A must visit if you fancy Indian food!
Tonglin Dai
Really nice food and deco. Some curries might be a bit spicy for people who don’t do well with chili, but it is the best Indian food I had in town. Affordable yummy food!

Nice and busy place. The Chat Platter is a must try for chat lovers, complete is all. Good ambience, feels Delhi even though far away. When Home sick, visit here

Group of us paid a visit at Noon, weekday lunch. Interior small & a li'll cramped, staff was friendly, courteous. Within 15 mins there was a queue of half dozen customers waiting outside. I ordered Goat Biryani, $15. Man, this is one Amazingly delicious dish! And the portion, and I'm a pretty big eater (when the food's good) was yoooge, enough for 2, I reckon! The delectable taste from the fluffy rice came in 3 hits - dry-ish upper layer with all the fragrant spice mix, middle layer which was meat-infused, and base which had mutton fat soaked in. Surprised myself, cleaned the aluminium plate out. Going back for more v shortly!
JC
Had a mixed thali and it was amazing. Flavours were balanced and not overpowering, not too spicy (though they can accommodate if you’d prefer otherwise) and not at all heavy. Somehow managed to finish my generous platter and leave without feeling stuffed. Note - the venue is small and it gets extremely busy at lunch time so either make a booking or come at a non-peak time.
CJ
Loved everything about this place! The food was absolutely delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive at all time. The venue is clean and well maintained which goes a long way in my book. And the absolute Best Gulab Jamun (excuse the spelling) I have ever had!!
Paul Clarkson
The only downside is the tight seating area and lack of seats. Meansyou are likely to have to wait. Great food. Love the fusion variants and focus on thalis and dosas.
Custardbun
Best naan that I have had in Melbourne.  Very busy at lunchtime, and staff are really friendly!  I keep ordering the thali, and the butter chicken is awesome.  I wish that the raita/yoghurt accompaniment is returned to the thali.

Tucked away between Flinders st and Flinders lane, Delhi Streets is a tiny place that was bustling even on a Tuesday night. The menu offers a good mix of Indian street foods and traditional curries, as well as fun options like pizza and wraps. <br/>I ordered pani puri for entree, a dish which I've had before and this version was nice but not amazing. Next I had a thali platter that came with two curries, rice, naan, pickles and a pappadum. For $13, it was cheap and had a little bit of everything. My favourite item was the warm and fluffy naan, but I thought the the curries were quite mild and needed more spice. I also tried the mixed grill, which was more of a share dish as it didn't come with any bread or rice. All the meats were spicy and well cooked but I would have loved for the charcoal flavour of the tandoori to be more pronounced. <br/>Overall, a very nice dinner but I do think that they held back on the spices. If I'm in the area again, I would give Delhi Streets another go.
Melbfood00
Loved our meal at Delhi Streets. We didn’t need to wait long for our food, and it was delicious! We ordered the platter which we really enjoyed as it was something new that we hadn’t had before. The curries were each so flavourful and had their own distinct taste. Will be back!!
Ashna Nain
I had a thali here and I was SO PLEASED with the quantity and the quality that undoubtedly went together. The food was fine and so were the starters. <br/>As I recall, we ordered Bhel Puri, 2 thalis and gulaab jamun and we were very happy that we found this restaurant in the corner of an alley. Absolutely worth your money, will not hesitate to come back again.
Melissa
Had the special thali which came with 3 choices (i chose matar paneer, beef, and lamb), with rice, papadum, naan and pickle. The rice was quite fluffy and fragrant, naan was nice even to eat on its own. I liked the matar paneer; the beef and lamb were not bad too but felt like it was missing something in terms of flavour. A friend ordered the butter chicken thali which was pretty tasty. The portion size was pretty good for the price. <br/><br/>Service was good, ambience was alright (though the couch seats were a bit hard to get into due to the limited space).<br/><br/>Overall, I might come back but would probably try something else.

I was really excited about going to this place. It really sounds like an Indian eatery with a solid and modern concept unlike all the other Indian restaurants in Melbourne. The vibe is Street Delhi and so is the food. It might not be the right place for a date as it is quite a small space with not a lot of room for comfort. But it’s cute in there! I especially love all the steel utensils<br/><br/>The appetizer platter is the bomb. Everything was good on it and it’s so worth it as there is so much food on there and so much work to put this platter together <br/><br/>The curries though I really didn’t care for. Sucks to have to say this but their curries stinks. The vindaloo taste like curry water, not spicy hot or sour at all! The butter chicken was ok but too salty. Lamb rogan josh was meh<br/><br/>The service. It’s ok.. what do u expect! ;) <br/><br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Service: 2.5/5<br/>Ambience: 3.5/5
SJFU
Very satisfying, hearty Indian food in a spunky environment. <br/><br/>Food -<br/>The Pani Puri is a must try, so texturally interesting. The other chaat of the platter are also quite good, not much variation in flavour between them though. The Pani Puri stole the show. <br/>Tandoori chicken pizza is yum and all but not what you should come here to try. <br/>Mix Thali is ridiculous value for money - $13 for three curries, rice, naan, a pappadum and pickles. I mean, what?! The curries are not the best I’ve had in Melbourne but hits the spot, well spiced and creamy. <br/>Gulab jamun was explosively rich and not too sweet, but I would prefer a stronger cardamom flavour. If you‘re pretty full by this point, it may be too sickly for you. Carrot halwa delicious and delicate, lovely fluffy texture. Ras malai was my favourite dessert, the saffron infused condensed milk absolutely mouth watering. <br/><br/>Service -<br/>Friendly and welcoming. Would be nice if we were given a jug of water rather than a small cup full each. <br/><br/>Atmosphere -<br/>Relaxed and inviting, I like the cowboyesque-meets-Bollywood feel. Their graphics are great. The food itself is pretty much normal Indian food but the decor makes the restaurant much more hangout friendly. <br/><br/>Looking forward to returning.
Sana @ MissBurberryXO
There has been a lot of hype around Delhi Streets and we've had two different experiences with the restaurant. <br/>Ambiance: Personally, I LOVED the cozy little restaurants hip vibe - old Bollywood movie posters, seating stools with logos reminding you of India, and the steel glasses and jugs. The names of traditional Indian snack dishes on the menu were inventive and fun; they can cater to non-Indians who may not fully understand what ingredients are contained in the dish hence making it easier to order. <br/><br/>Food: For our first dine-in visit, we tried the "Chaat Platter" for two containing small samples of famous Delhi street food. Although the presentation and decor of the platter were beautiful - like everything else in the fun restaurant - I was underwhelmed by the impact of the dish. The dish is more of a sample version, thereby small and leaves something to be desired. Flavors of the chutneys were excellent and the pani puri was decent. <br/><br/>Take Away- Interestingly, the Samosa Chaat which we took away was absolutely delicious. The samosas were large, fresh and had ample potato filling, chickpeas were well cooked and the portion size was perfect for two adults. <br/><br/>Price: $10 for the Samosa Chaat and approx. $17 for the chaat platter.<br/>Service: Professional staff, I have to second the previous reviewer - we waited 20 minutes for water after asking for it twice and then got it ourselves.<br/>I'm looking forward to trying the desserts and mains!

Ciao Basi De Pizza,<br/><br/>Some days are just better than others and today was a great day!<br/><br/>Take note Italiani because the best pizza i have had in Melbourne just came from this place.<br/><br/>Today i got the $12 tandoori chicken pizza for lunch and it was sen-bloody-sational! the base is naan, the serving is generous and the flavor is hypnotic. I had to run straight to my keyboard to give this place 5 stars!<br/><br/>A lot of people will tell you what a good pizza should be, it should have a thin base or a thick base, with smoked ham or a pile of rocket or pineapple or no pineapple, whatever!..... I don't buy into that. I believe that there isn't any rules when it comes to pizza, I believe that a pizza base is an empty canvas on which dreams can be created and dreams are subjective. BUT! Delhi Streets read my dreams and Delhi Streets just made my dreams come to life! <br/><br/>I will give this place 5 stars every single day. <br/><br/>Can't wait to try their Indian food. <br/><br/>Catch ya,

I have been looking for a perfect chaat place in Melbourne from past 8 months and i think I finally have found one...So I ordered a chaat platter to get the taste of each(jus missed bhel and pav bhaji ) and I would love to state it was exactly what I would find on the streets of Delhi the name of the place is just perfect to what you expect from it!! would come back soon for pav bhaji (I hope it satisfies Mumbai beach standards) and of course the Thali...chai was fine ghar jaisi and staff was good too jus that I feel too much burder came on one person who was serving hence she forgot to get me water ;)<br/>And here are the updates from second visit...I tried pav bhaji and bhel too this time...I would say bhel is some what average but I'm sorry I wasn't impressed by pav bhaji..it was a 2/5 for me

Delhi Streets is my favourite Indian restaurant. With a buzzing atmosphere, friendly staff and food that is just awesome I could not recommend it more. Definitely the best Indian cuisine I've had in Melbourne and probably some of the best meals I've ever eaten. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

i was hearing about this place for quite sometime.<br/>went there for lunch. tried thali with dal makhni and butter chicken, dishes were well prepared though naan was lilttle sour, just a little a bit.<br/>overall ambiance is good and so is the location.<br/>be ready to waot during popular timings.

A short walk away from Southern Cross, Delhi Street is a delight. <br/><br/>Delicious, filling platter of butter chicken thali that I would definitely go back for. Creamy, flavourful flavours that leap off the dish and into your mouth. <br/><br/>Bar stools are slightly uncomfortable but I guess it's a sign to finish your large, generous meal as quickly as possible so they can keep serving new customers. <br/>Can definitely see why this place is so popular. Affordable food, generous portions that doesn't sacrifice flavour. <br/><br/>Would definitely recommend their thali meal to meat eaters and vegetarians alike. <br/><br/>Ordered: <br/>Butter Chicken Thail: Butter chicken heaven - large serving of butter chicken served with rice, naan, incredibly crispy pappadum and pickles ($14)

One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in Melbourne!<br/><br/>Had the pani puri, butter chicken thali, special mix thali, the pistachio kulfi and mango lassi. The Pani Puri was AMAZING! Same with the butter chicken curry. Personally, I don't eat spicy food, but my husband loved the beef coconut curry! <br/>The pistachio kulfi was also very good, a little over the edge with the condensed milk, but still good.<br/><br/>We loved it so much that we came back for lunch the next day! My husband tried the chicken tikka tacos and I had the same butter chicken thali.  However, if you're in a hurry, think twice because it is packed at lunch time. Also, the waiter at dinner was incomparable to the one at lunch time! <br/><br/>Listed as one of my new fav spots in Melbourne for sure!<br/><br/>Edited: added photos of my last visit, I just can’t get enough of it!

Place is worth checking out nice cosy area and location food was average some stuff was good. Service was ok as there was only one person to serve

This was our second visit and again, loved it.<br/><br/>We visited India a few months ago, and the flavours are authentic to the north of India.<br/><br/>Pani Puris on a beach in Mumbai were a highlight of the trip, and these were bursting with flavour.<br/><br/>The Thali was fantastic and we went well with the selection of three curries, naan, papadums, rice and pickles for $15. Fantastic value and a great selection of flavours and fun to eat.<br/><br/>Finishing the night with a pistachio kulfi, what a refreshing way to finish the meal.<br/><br/>Hot tip: try a Thumbs Up cola!<br/><br/>Great value at $56 for two starters, two mains, one soft drink and one dessert.<br/><br/>Highly recommend!

Quiet a small, but popular Indian joint near Southern Cross with a few tables for larger groups, and a nice bar section surrounding the kitchen for small numbers to eat whilst watching the chefs make the fresh naan right in front of you. Their portion sizes are all quite large for a relatively reasonable price, with the thalis being a popular option for their variety of elements presented in the huge metal platter. I opted for what I had seen as their highlight from online reviews and wasn’t disappointed! The main problem was that I had to wait almost an hour for my dish to be served – I was told it was 5 minutes away after about 40 minutes (on a not-so-busy Tuesday night) only then to hear that apparently they burnt my first one and had to remake it. However, their waitress was very nice in communicating that to me and offered a rich, smooth mango lassi as compensation.
Linda
Decent Indian food, and cheap for meal size! Pan Puri was nice and meat thali was good value. I had the butter chicken and beef vindaloo. Venue is cosy and good decor. Although there is nicer Indian in Melbourne - was still nice experience.
Jordan Bien
Food was beautiful and well priced. The beer was cheap, $6 a corona while eating delicious Indian curry went down well. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Great place and always busy is a good sign. I recently had an amazing meal for under $10, no wonder this place is so busy .well worth visiting and plenty of amazing food options in Katherine place if you can’t get on, but keep trying as it’s worth it.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: This place is bustling at lunch times. As it is a fairly small place I would highly recommend to book before you come in. <br/><br/>🍩Lizzie enjoyed: The banquet is definitely worth the $35pp. It comes with a selection of entrees, a few curries and rice as main and also a lovely dessert selection. Everything was delicious!! I especially loved the idea of the tiffun tins where they served our curries! <br/><br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: I wish the Naan bread had more butter:garlic to give it that extra hint of deliciousness. <br/><br/>🥇Lizzie rates overall: I loved this place and the style was so authentic - with the tiffin tins and the entrees/desserts!

Great value with slow service<br/><br/>Managed to get a table in this busy little resturant on a tuesday night. Food menu is varied and everything tasty. I perticularly recomend the shared starters platter and the naans. Food arrived fast. However, the drinks we ordered took almost an hour to arrive, even after we asked 3 times. No one in the whole resturant had a drink for a good 45m. Seems the staff were under the pump and did not prioritise drink service above the food orders.

I know I will always leave Delhi Streets full and satisfied whenever I've an indian food craving. Their vegetarian dishes are so tasty you barely notice there's no meat!<br/>Only compliant would be that my clothes end up smelling of Delhi Streets due to the lack of proper ventilation. Suppose the upside on this is that I will be reminded of my enjoyable meal even after leaving the place!

We came here on a Saturday for dinner. We ordered the street snack platter, masala dosa as well as the tandoori chicken pizza everyone has been raving about. Food was absolutely delicious and authentic. The pizza was also a nice surprise. The tandoori chicken was tender and full flavoured. Service was friendly too. I will be returning.

Went there after reading so much hype about it on zomato. It's a fun place and we had a great time. The samosa Chaat is good. Rest of the food is so so and over priced. The descriptions of each item on the menu is really funny. Gave us a good laugh!

This has been on my go-to list for a while because of the high rankings and I can now completely see why. I didn't think there was a pani puri that would outdo Aangan's but I think I've just found the best pani puri in Melbourne. A good amount of mixture in the puri and a lovely tamarind chutney that doesn't get overpowered by the mint which is a perfect combination of sour and spice. Good enough to drink on its own which is always a telling sign! What followed next was the pizza naan (half tandoori chicken and half paneer) and this was the biggest surprise of the night. We watched as the naan was made in front of us, the toppings added and then everything placed back in the tandoor. As much fun as it was to watch, the pizza tasted even better. The naan was light and crunchy, and the chicken and other toppings were lovely together. Our chole/chana bhatura was what we had originally been looking forward to, and it didn't disappoint. the bhatura was perfect portion doughy, crispy and fluffy and it went very well with the pickles and also the chole which was slightly tangy with possibly some hints of lemon which suited me fine. We also ordered the dahi vada and although the marinade was lovely, the vadas were a little dry in the middle and it was probably the weakest dish of the night. We finished off with pistachio kulfi which had a nice flavour. Overall, excellent Indian food and would definitely come back to try more. The service was not the most attentive but they were friendly and accomodating.

Tasty butter chicken thali but only get 3-4 tiny cubes of chicken for a $14 meal. It's very carbohydrate rather than protein heavy. There's more bread and rice than meat, therefore filling due to the carbohydrate quantity. The butter chicken sauce is delicious. Quite a small cramped venue so can be uncomfortable when crowded during peak hour.

Best pani puri out there, so good we ordered 5 plates. Very yummy food. The mango lassi was amazing and very refreshing. The pani puri was a great way to start of the night with the right elements of sweet, sour, crunchy, soft and spicy. The butter chicken was exactly how it should have been but a too sweet for me. The mixed grill was really nice, and the meat was soft and tender. The chicken naan pizza was the highlight on the night and super yummy. And kulfi was a bit too creamy but still super yummy. Only place they loose points for me was seating. A bit tight inside and had to sit at the bar tables with three of my friends, hard to make conversation. The setup and atmosphere was very cool and hip and in a completely different league in comparison to other Indian restaurants. Would definitely go back again.

Terrific Indian street food, with wonderful fresh flavours. It's like a little hole in the wall, and fairly basic décor, but the quality of the staff and the food, along with the amazingly low prices, more than make up for it. Highly recommended.
Masranichintan92
Amazing place and great variety of street food, specifically Indian/Mumbai street food. Try every dish you can and you will love all of them 🍺🍺🍺

A modern but delicious take on Indian food, with a good selection of chaats. Ingredients are fresh and our dishes were bursting with flavour.<br/><br/>Papri chaat is fantastic (but I love papri chaat in general so I'm biased), the pani puri and dosa were also tasty. The tacos were interesting but they worked!<br/><br/>Staff are friendly, service can be slow and there is a nice buzz inside.<br/><br/>Book ahead on weekends, as it can get very busy and seating is limited by venue size.

A friend of my from India recommended me Delhi Street and says this is the best India food she had in Melbourne. I had Chatt Platter and butter chicken thali. Both are very nice. Staff are friendly as well and the place is small but comfy.
Nman
Small restaurant which is quite busy, we dined here on a Friday night and had to wait for a table. The menu had a great range of foods and we ordered an mixed entree and a thali, although the service was a little slow (although there appeared to be lots of staff chatting near the kitchen). Overall the quality of the food was OK not stand out, the chaat which arrived in the entree was nice but i have had better Indian food.
Foodie Gal
Hugely popular place. We enjoyed our dinner lots of vegetarian options on the menu, tasty and well priced. Staff were busy, the service wasn't attentive but the waitress always managed a smile. Great place for tasty Indian....if you can get a table.

I've eaten Indian cuisine at a few places across Melbourne. I must admit that this quaint little Indian restaurant hidden off the main road,is a treasure trove. The food is sumptuously tasty and reminds one so much of home-cooked food. The ambience is surreal and takes you down the years of Indian cinema through past decades. To top it all, the staff is so friendly which adds that touch of personalisation that most other places lack.<br/><br/>It is hard to choose the dish that was the best as every single one of them was delicious and cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend the chaat platter and the biriyani. My request of making the biriyani spicy was adhered to with precision. The kebab platter did create an impression for itself too. At the end of such an awesome meal what better way to top it off than a delicious dessert. I simply loved the kulfi sprayed generously with pistachios. The Ras malai was an equal first.<br/><br/>I would highly recommend you book a table as those who don't, often end up waiting in a long queue outside.

This place Rocks!! Super tasty and cheap.. good variety. If you like spicy, make sure you ask for<br/>Indian Hot. You will not be disappointed. Always a must when down that end of town.

You realise this place has lots of character as you walk in which is different to most other indian eateries around. The ambience and decor gives you a true feel as youre seated in the markets of India. The food is the closest ive had back in India. The chaats are super delicious and full of flavour. We had the goat curry that was rich and spicy, just loved it! Then we finished the meal with gulab jamun and carrot halwa, which you can tell alot of love has gone into it. Definitely my fav Indian ive had so far in Melbourne.<br/>

The place is comfortable and well decorated, but the food is completely amazing. Being an Indian and eaten at many restaurants across the country, I'd rate Delhi Street the best only because every single item we ordered was flavourful and nothing went below expectations at all. The staff are so efficient and switched on. The Mixed tandoor platter was cooked to perfection, the mixed chaat platter was so tasty. The Naan is by far the best I've eaten, and every single dessert we had was so good, the kulfi takes the cake, the gulab jamun was yumm. I will definitely visit Delhi street often after my first great experience there even if I have to drive an hour to get there. A definite visit to all Indians who crave home food cooked to perfection.
@twogoodtoresist
Modern Indian at its best which stays honest to its authentic flavour but captures the modern taste buds. The cosy yet busy nature (buzzing on a Monday night) is a testament to their food and good service. The prices are extremely reasonable and we certainly understand why they won a good foods cheap eats award. The butter chicken and dal curries were definitely our favourites as was the chicken biryani. The two curry dishes come with a generous arriving of naan, rice and papadum and is a great option for a filling and extremely reasonable dinner. The m and m naan and pistachio kulfis were delicious and a perfect end to a great meal.
Jennitals
LIT!: I've tried plenty of naan but this one takes the cake. They make fresh naan in front of you. Mains were very delicious and affordable <br/><br/>NOT SO LIT: the dessert. Had the pistachio icecream which was.. basically condensed milk, so it was super sweet.
Justin
Been here twice in a space of two weeks! Definitely some of the best Indian I have had. The set up is very clean and the nan bread is amazing! They make it fresh in front of you. Standouts were the butter chicken and the tandoori pizza.
Pamela Yang
Very very very slow service, for average food that doesn't wow after a 30 minute wait and no water refill. <br/>We ordered the street food plate and butter chicken curry, both were very bland with bad presentation and came out WAY too late.

You know you're in for an amazing meal when you arrive and most of the clientele are Indian. Small but cosy with some very friendly staff. Had the special thali and mixed grill, a mix of flavorsome curries, rice and Naan with some beautiful tandoori cooked meats. Can fault the food perfect for sharing. Finished with a selection of desserts. Great meal superb value. Will return for sure.

<br/>Hidden gem located just off the Flinder st . Cozy atmosphere, love the interior & setup. Food was tasty & fresh. My husband reckon it was the best butter chicken around in Melbourne. Love the Thali platter. We also tried the gol-gappa which were spot on. Chilled, refreshing & spicy( Previously I had them at two young boys cafe which were amazing). <br/>The only let down was the service. There was only one waitress in busy time, our table was uncleaned & not offered water. Will be back to try the rest of the menu.
Mitch Robinson
Straight up, avoid this place at all costs. Every person in the kitchen was eating food from another restauraunt while preparing our food and one of the waiters cracked open the wrong drink and fished the cap out of the garbage to put it back on the bottle and put it back in the fridge. Don't eat here unless you want to get sick.
Affogato Addiction
Fancier than your average casual Indian restaurant. A little pricier to reflect this nicer decor and hip atmosphere. Tasty curries and good naan.
The Dear Luncher
This particular eatery is located just a short stroll from The Dear Luncher’s gulag. Having frequented all of Delhi Street’s neighbours it was now time to give this Indian street food vendor a chance. Arriving early to avoid the lunch-time rush, all of the larger tables were booked out. This turned out to be a blessing as The Dear Luncher and his lunching companion ended up occupying stools in full view of the kitchen. Only a pane of glass separated us from the sights and sounds of The Delhi Streets crew preparing winter-warmers for what turned out to be a full-house. There was not a single spare spot by the time The Dear Luncher’s food arrived, people were being turned away.<br/><br/>Whilst the space inside is cramped, it is not uncomfortable. Beers are cheap and the majority of food offerings well priced. The Dear Luncher opted for the Meat Lovers Thali. With this particular option one is able to select two meat-based curries. For the first visit, these choices were the Bombay Beef and the Butter Chicken. For the uninitiated - Thali is a bit like an Indian bento box, for want of a better comparison. This option was priced at $14 and filled Your Dear Luncher up to the brim. The spices really hit that sweet spot of not being too overt, but subliminal. The Dear Luncher does enjoy head sweats, and being challenged by spicy heat – this was not really part of the deal at Delhi Streets, but that’s fine. Both curries were creamy and adequately sized for a fairly thrifty lunch experience. It was quite novel to see the naan breads being made right in front of our eyes – this added to the experience and shows that even if a venue is small, there are ways to turn this disadvantage into an advantage.

Tight bustling lunch venue with numerous items on the menu. Naan bread was superb, rice and condiments very good. I wonder why I'm not eating it higher, it's better than many Indian restaraunts I have lunched at, I think it's the cha'at dishes I had which are numerous, full flavoured but my stomach really does not appreciate and gives me signals of discontent. The busy nature of the restaraunt shows its lunchtime popularity. Is excellent value for money.

Taeyeon's Hamster
We found this place through an article for cheap eats and I rate this the best indian I've had in the cbd/docklands area. I can tell that it's authentic and the quality of the food is superb as agreed by my fellow indian native colleagues.<br/><br/>Chicken biryani is my pick, it's boneless and flavoursome with herbs and spices. For $13 it's massive. It looks small at first but once you tuck in it really fills you up.<br/><br/>Second visit I saw they even make pizzas using the nam hot pit oven. I had the tandoori chicken pizza nam and it's presentation is neat. It's juicy, filled with heaps of capsicum and onions all held together by tasty cheese. Yum !<br/><br/>Do make a reservation to avoid disappointment or get there ahead of the crowd for lunches.
The Gastronaut
Close to authentic Indian restaurant. Chole bhature, and chaat are great options. Please don't go for any of their thali options - not worth it.<br/>Ras malai is worth trying.
Valerie L Jovee
I thought my favourite Indian dessert is gulab jamun. No, no, no. It is now RAS MALAI, everyone !!! It's soooooo creamy..... and I cannot wait to have them again !!! I wonder why I've not seen this at other Indian restaurants but I'm so glad Delhi Streets had them. I am absolutely in love with it. For lunch, I had plain dosa (it was okay) but looking at the thalis my colleagues ordered made me really jealous! I will definitely be back :-)

Delhi Streets, Katherine place, Melbourne cbd, cuisine- Indian. It's a haven for vegetarians - even though our table had more meat eaters than vegetarians, 80% of the dishes we ordered were vegetarian! The options are just too good to pass! For smaller plates lots of chat (tangy Indian street food of various kinds) options - we had panipuri (fried hollow bills with potato filling and mint water) - it was delicious.... you just can't stop eating. We also tried bhelpuri (puffed rice with Indian chutneys) and samosa chat( samosa with chickpea curry and chutneys) - yummm... for mains there was chole bhatura (chickpea curry with fried bread with yogurt and pickles) - absolutely tasty!!! We also got dosa (Indian rice flour pancakes with potatoes, coconut chutney and lentil soup) - this one dish failed to impress, no where close to the other yummy goodness. It's an absolute fantastic place for a weekday lunch or an early after work catchup with friends! Lots of options and full of flavor definitely worth a try! They have thali (Indian plate with curries, rice, naan, salad) options too which is great for lunch! Their naan bread is to die for, one of the best I have ever had, try the bread in form of wraps and naan pizzas on offer- again yum!!!! Enjoy and let me know how you liked it 😊 I love to hear from you so please leave your lovely comments and feedback. @delhistreets #rating4 #indianfood #catchupwithfriends #earlydinner #melbournesummer #dosa #cholebhatura #samosa #panipuri #thali #instablogger #foodblogger #toomuchtoeat #melbourne #vegbourne #vegetarianrocks #gonewiththepind🚜#bhelpuri #melbournefoodie #foodovereverything #vegetarian #melbournebesteats #igersmelbourne

Friend took me here for lunch as it has good reviews. I always wanted to try pinna Puri. Taste good and refreshing. Disappointed that this is not spicy at all. I have asked the friendly waiter for more spice. And she added a couple of green chillies in the water. Still not spicy. The Tikka is good especially the butter chicken - taste very different to what I have tasted before. As a non Indian, this place is good to go for lunch.
Charis The Vegetarian
This place is absolutely great!! Delicious veggie options, super cheap, staff are lovely and I really liked the decor as well. I'll definitely be back.

Food was great and ambience was nice. Not a big restaurant but modern and functional. Service could be slow and it took us 5 to 10 minutes of waiting before we could order dessert and another 10 to 15 minutes before dessert came.<br/><br/>While we were halfway through dessert, we were told that, "There are customers waiting outside but it's ok". Well if it's ok then what's the point of telling us? We thought that was totally strange considering that we had to wait for quite a while to order dessert and to be served. If the service was better then we will be able finish and free up the table quicker as well. It was unreasonable to expect us to finish our dessert in 5 minutes to make up for their inefficiency in service.<br/><br/>Besides the service, we are happy with the food and price. But not a place to go if you want to hangout and chat for longer.

Our review this week is an Indian street food restaurant in Melbourne called Delhi Streets. We went there with my friend (he was the one recommending the restaurant) who used to live in Sydney. The restaurant was pretty full that day but my friend somehow managed to secure a booking. Apparently, quite a lot of them ordered the food for takeaway.<br/> My favourite dish in this restaurant was Pani Puri!
Steve Fassos
Great food and service :-) the chaat platter is amazing as we got to sample their tasty tapas style food . The biryani and thali were spot with their spices
Miss_ZXC
The restaurant is in the small lane near the southern cross. It is sooo tiny and it is hard to walk properly in the restaurant. The waitress never smiled to the customers. One dish is not enough for one person and the price is higher than other places. Taste of the food is different from others. For biriyani, they only have chicken one and it is hard to find the chicken only 2-3pieces, that's it.<br/>I don't recommend to go there
Hayden
What a great little restaurant! It's a fun, chic, modern and exciting Indian restaurant.<br/><br/>The Chicken Biryani is fiery and with a great balance of spices. The chicken is boneless - a big plus for me - and the serving size is generous. The various offerings from the chaat menu are also great.<br/><br/>The service here is generally a bit inattentive: staff tend to dump the food on your table and then avoid eye contact. However, the food is still worth coming for.

Nice chaat , reminds of Indian street food<br/>Thali option is good as well. I ordered chaat platter and was happy with the taste as well as service.<br/>Though it's a compact place with not many tables but must try for street food lovers.

Great place to visit. Amazing decor and mouth watering food with cheap pricing. Ordered starters, mains and sweets with drinks and total bill was around $60. Staff is super friendly and helpful. AAA service. Strongly recommended.

It's a very nice place to dine and the customer service exceeded expectations ! Staff is very friendly and they definitely make people feel welcomed! Will definitely be going there again !!!

Tasty Indian food! Nonetheless, the service has been consistently slow in all my previous visits to this place. You would do well to give this place a miss if you are in a hurry.

Entrees were nice , service was alright , I've ordered one of the mains (thali) and i really hated it the taste was horrible. If I ever wanted to go back to that place I'd order the entrees nothing else .

Crowded and cramped place<br/>Ordered masala dosa<br/>Took forever <br/>Masala was simply dumped into the dosa <br/>Watery sambhar and chutney <br/>Would not recommend
Crazy About My Food
Delhi food! Perfectly goes through the heart of a Delhi child to the stomach! Great food and service. Keep it up guys! Only downside was beef, too dry and stringy.
Xoori
Yum yum and yum. We love this little indian joint. Their tandoori chicken pizza and bhaturay chanay are the best in time. Highly recommended!

Awesome food, average service and nice ambience. My overall experience was good. Alloo tikki was beyond my expectations and it was the real taste of india. The place is located in the heart of Melbourne cbd and hidden in the arc of Katherine place (small street between flinders lane & flinders street). Resturant is themed over bollywood. The tight seating arrangement could be a negative, as the resturant is always full during the peak lunch & dinner hours. I am pretty you will love the delicious food. ALERT: for non-indian customers Indian medium spicy could be ACTUAL highly spicy !!! So be careful while while ordering your biryanis ! :)
Smart Diner
Quick, friendly service, great prices, free water and tasty meals! Great value for money, decent wine list. Very happy to have stumbled on this place!

Absolutely loved this place! I've never been to India, but it felt pretty authentic. I was sat just in front of the kitchen and was mesmerised by the naan bread baking! What an amazing find, will definitely be heading back again. Good quality yet inexpensive Indian food.

First time trying food at an Indian restaurant and didn't know what to expect! My partner and I ordered several dishes to share and he was explaining how each dish was to be eaten as he comes from Goa. It was a really pleasant experience, however he said that paying $8 for a set of 5 puris was a little ridiculous as the locals in india would pay under a dollar for a set of 10 puris. You would obviously expect food to be more expensive in Australia, but this dish costs more than 10 times the price of what you would pay in India to get the same amount of this item. Everything else was well-priced and I really enjoyed the taste of the 'Pani puri' (despite the high cost) and 'Samosa chaat'. We also ordered a 'Papri chaat' and 'Non-veg thali' and the thali was really cheap ($13) compared to how much it would cost in Perth.<br/><br/>Overall, my partner and I would definitely recommend you try this place out, as the flavours are really good here, and the taste of the street food items were pretty close to how local food in India taste compared to other Indian restaurants in Australia.

Small in size but big on flavour, this little Indian Street Food hideaway is one of my favourites in Melbourne and they take bookings Hurrah!!. “Ohh Mighty Parcels!” The Samomsa Chaat are phenomenal! North Indian fried parcels filled with potatoes & peas, served with chickpeas and sweet and spicy chutneys its whole mess of amazing flavours YUM!
Sahil Khanna
Amazing authentic Indian food. Dining at this place was like having flashbacks of the place I call home. Everything I tried was delicious. From Pani Puri to Chana Bhatura to chicken tikki, everything was marvelous. <br/>I just think that if there was a little bit more space then it would have been nice and easy for us to share. But besides that I definitely suggest this place. A must go.
Edward Hunter
Great spot for vegetarian thali. Service was friendly, the kitchen efficient and the food was tasty. The masala chai is excellent and there are more than enough options to keep you returning.
Good Food Good Mood
Bring me all the food. Non veg thali for $13 got me two meat curries, naan, raita, rice, salad and pappadum. What ridiculous value, you can't beat that with a baseball bat. It actually took out The Age Good Food Guide cheap eats in 2015. Traditional water goblets, pewter plates and posters of Bollywood film starts create an authentic and fun atmosphere. Tiny place but they still manage to fit a tandoor in there to create delicious fresh bread. Loved it
Telyawhat
We loved the butter chicken! It was absolutely delicious! We were able to get a seat at the bar just before the dinner rush. We ordered the special thali (3 small bowls of different curries with naan) and dosa/sambal. I would definitely go back.
Steve
Really good tasty food. Had a aloo tikki wrap. Very good. Quick and friendly service. I'll be back. The thali platters looked good too. Will try next time.

This place gets really busy at lunch. I recommend you go early or reserve a table if you have a small group. The servings are quite generous and the staff are friendly. I had a mix of two curries with rice and naan, great value. The Aloo Tikki was tasty!

Craving Indian food and especially street food, I ended up down a dark alley at delhi streets. Movie posters of classics adorned the walls, bollywood tuned infiltrated the ambience of the tiny establishment with bar stool seating facing an empty dark street and small wooden tables.<br/><br/>The waitress quickly provided us with water in copper glasses and handed us some large menus. Entrees ranged from 5-10 bucks with thalis and dosas around 12. <br/><br/>We were squeezed into a tiny table trapped between two other couples even though there was plenty of seating and she could have easily spread out the patrons so that we were not eating from each others tables or knocking over glasses, getting curry all over our sleeves etc.<br/><br/> The food took forever to arrive even though we were one of the two couples that had ordered. However the food was well worth the wait.<br/><br/>The pani puri - flour filled dumplings with stuffed potato, yoghurt and tamarind chutney drenched in cold minty, spicy but sweet water was sublime. Mm.<br/><br/>The masala dosa with deliciously stuffed potatoes, crispy yet soft pancake, refreshing coconut chutney and delicious thick Sambhar left me wanting for more.<br/><br/>The thali was a disappointment. Yes we got q delicious fluffy buttery crispy nan. The basmati rice was of top quality. But we only got two curries and they were not authentically Indian. Orange sweet butter chicken. Coles does it better. Lamb Rogan jhosh. Ugh again you can get it better as a frozen meal.<br/><br/>Now for the five dollar desserts. For five bucks you can get two pieces of bouncy sweet gulabjamuns or the most delicious carrot halwa ever. Both tasted fresh unlike most Indian sweet shops where you know its been there for a while and has attracted flies. <br/><br/>Pros<br/>Cheap<br/>Large portions<br/>Satisfying<br/>Delicious street food<br/><br/>Cons<br/>Long wait<br/>Seating<br/>Non-veg thali<br/><br/>Definitely the best Indian place I've visited to date in Melbourne. Oh and so clean. You can see the kitchen. So believe it.
YumYum
Had dinner tonight there with friends for the first time. It was a recommended restaurant so we gave it a shot. Food was great , atmosphere friendly and staff attentive. Overall a good experience! Just a pity it's not a central location!<br/>

Discovered this place when hunting for a cheap dinner down Southern Cross end of town. My boyfriend and I had a Thali plate each and a shared entree and it came to under $35! Definitely a bargain to find a place for dinner in the CBD for under $20 a head. I did find the service incredibly slow (waited an hour for our meals after ordering) and there was only 1 waitstaff on that night with several large groups. Given the price and quality, I'm eager to give it another go!

Delhi Streets, although disadvantaged by its location within the CBD serves one of the most authentic street foods of India. This place is difficult to stumble upon unless you are actively trying to find it. Tucked in nondescript location of Catherine Pl, the place appears to be run by a young Indian (chatty) staff. Food is more North Indian than South and can be cooled off by Kingfisher Beer. <br/><br/>Thali is satisfying and isnt nearly as rich and heavy to keep you awake post lunch as compared to other Indian places in close vicinity. Quality of Rice served is one of the best that I have tried.<br/><br/>Rolls are made using piping hot naan bread and generous sprinkle of tangy chutneys  and salads- 10/10.<br/><br/>While most of the menu is very satisfying, owners can consider the following.<br/><br/>1. Offer wholemeal breads - complete menu is based on naan bread<br/>2.  Wrapping rolls to avoid sauce dripping on the clothes<br/>3. Changing Thali menu more often
LeanGuy
Initially I wasn't sure what to expect with this little cafe style looking place. We were going as part of a work lunch, and others in our group had been raving about this place. Several shared plates were ordered in advance for the 12 of us. Was there going to be enough food for us all? Some of us were very hungry. We started with a few entrees. Samosa Chaat, Dahi VadA, and Chicken Tikka. Before we could finish the first entree, more came out. Tandoori chicken and paneer pizza naans (you heard right). Then more (Chicken Biryani). Then more (you get the picture). All the dishes had an authentic and delicate taste. The spice was there, but could be easily extinguished by water. The dishes which stood out as favourites were the Special Thali (butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, dal). And the Chana Bhatura, which included a a gigantic football sized bread. By the end of the meal, everyone was completely full. I was impressed by how organised the kitchen team are. The food was plentiful, fresh, and without delay. The price was very reasonable for the amount of quality food we ordered ($20 p/h). If you are thinking of a large office lunch in Melbourne CBD , then I would recommend Delhi Streets.

Found this spot when I searched on Zomato for a restaurant near my friend's work, only to realise that I had been in this street last week for lunch at Hunters' Roots. Delhi Streets had a few tables filled at 6:30pm on a Thursday night. The other restaurants in this little street were empty. <br/><br/>We shared the Pani Puri (lots of fun to eat), Papri Chaat and Aloo Tikki. I thought everything was quite good. The service was friendly, although one waitress was a little awkward.<br/><br/>My friend also had a Chai and the bill was $28.50. A bargain. I could have eaten a bit more, my friend wasn't very hungry. The portion sizes are small, but so are the prices. <br/>I will definitely come back here to try some other dishes!

Loved the street based Indian chat which were served. it's a nice place to eat delicious indian food in cbd area along with group of friends
Veggie Gal
Delhi Street is a lovely little place with with nice Bollywood posters to look at which was as well since we had to wait almost half an hour for our  2 meals. And there was just one other table with 2 people when we came in. The thalis (a vegetarian and a special), when they finally, arrived had the smallest curry bowls I saw in my life, and I saw many of them in a lot of places being avid Indian food lover. My potato and cauliflower curry was ok, the other one that I assume may have been red lentil dhal, was quite watery. Raita was weirdly sweet and the salad shouldn't have figured on menu, it's just garnish. According to my brother, his meat curries were alright. Overall, not a terrible experience, just an average one,  but I had been disappointed: after the glowing reviews in The Age I really had expected something special.

Ordered Pani Puri, Chicken Biryani & Chicken Tikka - Excellent Hot spicy biryani and yummy Pani Puri.<br/>Chicken Tikka was really disappointing and over cooked :(<br/><br/>NB: Received a Thank you letter (post my feedback on last order) from the owner. <br/>Thank you

Seriously good indian food. My wife being from India absolutely loves the aloo tikki and pani puri here for entrees. For mains we stuck to the standard Thalis which we had the lamb madras and dal as the curry options, but full of flavour and not overly spicy but still a kick. For dessert we shared the Gulab jamun and they were the perfect way to end the meal. Was so busy for a Monday night but we weren't surprised to why. Will definitely be returning

Please avoid this restaurant .we had ordered non veg thali.it took 45 min and person who took order replied that she dint know chicken is no cooked..nd she kept telling 5 min more..and food taste is not authentic.. No proper management...staff are v rude .they don't have any manners...food taste is also not good..
Karthikeyan P
For the amount they charge, the food quantity is less and of average quality. Nothing special. Once in a while is ok (there are other more worthwhile Indian restaurants). This one is on it's way out.
Rina
Very cool little spot. Great food. Awesome thali and masala chai. Recommend to anyone. Well done Dehli Streets!! We will be back for sure!!!

Tucked away in Katherine Place, this place is such a good cheap eat. It's always bustling at lunch but the service is quick and the food is always tasty. I recommend the Pani Puri for something different. It's unassuming and delicious!!! If you're more of a straight shooter, the Thalis are great value, comprising generous portions of your standard Indian fare.
Maryjohnstone007
Excellent food, excellent service and the atmosphere is always busy and lively with the loud bollywood music busting in the background. I'm come on a weekly basis with my indian collegues and we all love it :) keep doing what your doing!

I came here on the recommendation of a few work colleagues who recommended this place. I ordered the 'mix thali' set and picked two curries. One was the butter chicken and I can't remember the other one I picked. There was barely any chicken in the butter chicken and the taste was incredibly disappointing as it lacked flavour and spice. It tasted quite mild and diluted. It was definitely not an authentic Indian meal - I feel that the food offered here has been adapted for westerners. Verdict: Not the place to go if you want some authentic Indian food. Won't be coming back. Sorry!

Since our office moved to the city about a year ago I’ve become a regular. I eat here around once a week and love it. The staff are friendly, the service quick, the food delicious and of great value. They take bookings – but be prepared, it can get a bit squeezy. Delhi Streets is very popular and for good reason.
Jia Krant
Good food but not a large menu, the portion size was good and pricing as well. The tables are too close to each other and the restaurant can only hold a few people. The service was not great either, our order was taken about 15mins after we arrived and the waitress was not very attentive.

GO HERE!<br/><br/>The menu is so affordable in the city, and the portion is quite good, I got the Pizza (Chicken) Naan which was cheesy, meaty (So much chicken they were generous) and lots of vegetables which made it better than a normal pizza.<br/><br/>My friend got the Masala Dose which was large, crispy with fresh potato filling. We also got Masala/Chai tea which was really nice and not overpowering <br/><br/>All in all a must go, to try the street food of India and it was such a good price and friendly staff. We didn't realise it closed at 2:30 and sat there till 3:00(not realising why it was empty) and they waited patiently for us. We felt so bad for it but the food was amazing
The Food Queen
I really liked Delhi Streets! There's a cool vibe, loved the pewter plates and water goblets. Food portions are small - in line with the low price - but certainly enough for a decent meal. My masala dosa was delicious, the filling lightly spicy. My friends special thali with 3 mixed curries was tasty - not terribly spicy but good. Definitely worth a try

Delhi Streets has a cool fit out and is super affordable for a great, satisfying Indian meal.<br/><br/>The serving style allows you to try 2-3 different curries which is awesome - last time I had one of the most delicious dhal's I have ever had. <br/><br/>I would also recommend the Indian Donuts for dessert - fried semolina donuts accompanied with a warm syrup  :) :)

Friday night out with friends. We had Special Thali,it was pretty amazing!Masala tea is not too sweet, just alright! We will definitely come back!

We went there on a Saturday evening and luckily booked a table as this place gets packed (not very big). The food was fresh and delicious and very affordable. The staff were lovely and attentive and I can definitely recommend this place for a good Indian dining experience if you are on a budget.

It's been 10 years since I'm away from my home in Punjab. Eating at Delhi Streets tells me otherwise. Whenever I come eat here, it takes me back to the memory lane and I feel I'm home. Just love the Aloo Tickie Wrap which keeps getting better and better. And just don't ask me about their Masalha Tea - plainly awesome. Chicken Tandoori nan is great too. I recommend it to anybody who's missing Punjabi (street) food. Thumbs up.
Jashir Parikh
Food was very good - both the pani Puri and aloo tikki for entree were delicious, they had a great burst of flavour. For mains had the chicken biryani and masala dosa . Excellent interior it was very nostalgic

If you want a delicious, cheap and spicy treat for dinner in the city of Melbourne on your next trip here or during a lunch time break for those who work in the city. Then Delhi Streets is just the spot for you. Named best cheap eats for 2015 by the Age good food guide it's a great spot to eat. . Katherine Place, Melbourne

Three of us visited this place on Friday evening. The place is a hidden gem and the food is brilliant. Below is a summary of our visit in bullet points.<br/><br/>Things that stand out:<br/>- Nice decor and Bollywood theme with good background music.<br/>- Finger licking good food - must have CHOLEY BHATURE, PAO-BHAJJI.<br/>- Good choice of Indian beers - Kingfisher & Haywards.<br/>- Friendly staff.<br/>- Very economical.<br/><br/>The place can be a little hard to find but it is worth the effort. I am a big fan of Indian food and must say that this is one of the best in Melbourne. If you are here for a short visit then you have got to visit this place.<br/><br/>Please make sure you call and reserve a table as it can get busy over the weekends. <br/><br/>Happy eating!!<br/><br/>Until next time.<br/><br/>- Rusty...

Awesome place. Excellent service, Excellent food and ambience. Great little find. The chats are a must try. On the other hand I am a little annoyed by Zomato's 140 minimum character rule. Hopefully this covers it....................... Just in case

Delhi Streets offers really tasty meals at decent prices, however, I didn't find this place enough to crave my Indian food cravings. I'm not across the cuisine enough to question its authenticity, though I do wish the curries, chutneys, and pickles were accentuated with more spice flavours. I felt like the butter chicken and lamb curry were quite one-dimensional and wished the sauces were slightly thicker. The chickpeas in the chana bhatura were cooked well, but again I wish the spices were stronger. I liked the naan and fried bread from Delhi streets, though the thali set is what I'd go for if I ever revisit. Perhaps I'm more used to a different style of Indian cooking, but Delhi Streets just wasn't 100% for me. I would certainly recommend the place for a decent place nonetheless.

There is no shortage of customer service here. My first visit was really lovely, though the space was a bit congested and small the food covered the negatives. The smile you get from the waitresses says it all, they make you feel welcoming. The food i would not say is super great but its all indian and kind of a mixed fusion. The flavours are there but still sometimes somethings are missing here there. All together with the environment and the atmosphere its a complete package. I would definitely go there again with my friends to have a second chance at it.

Tucked away in Katherine Place, alongside other small cafes and restaurants, I visited Delhi Streets with a friend to satisfy our appetite for Indian food. Quite different in its set up and menu to other Indian restaurants I'd been to, I was quite unsure about how this would fare. My friend and I both ordered the Mix Thali, my friend also trying an Indian soft drink similar to coke. The dishes arrived after a short wait, considering the restaurant had just reopened for the night, so we may yet had to meet the dinner rush.<br/>All I can say is the dish was amazing! I especially loved that the smaller serving sizes of the curries meant that I could get a mixture of two. The flavours were fantastic, and I liked the mild heat that the dish delivered. I would most definitely go back again, especially to try their Chocolate Naan!
Janhavi
Kickass food especially the chaat made me remember home. Unfortunately the put off for me at this restaurant was beyond food, the service was really poor. Looking forward to better customer service.<br/>

Great little Indian joint we got recommended by our friends to try. We went on a Monday night thinking it would be quite, but they were busy which is a good sign of the great restaurant. For entrees we tried Aloo Tikki and Samosa Chaat, both which were delicious. The Aloo tikki were these crispy potato patties cooked perfectly that came on a a chickpea base. The sauces on this gave it a perfect balance of sweet/spicy/savoury. The samosa was amazing too. the pastry was cooked perfectly and the filling was nice and spicy. For mains we tried the Thali with the vindaloo, eggplant and dal option. All curries were spiced perfectly and the naan breads were an excellent accompaniment. All these was washed down with the Haywards indian beer which we never had before. it tasted a bit like a mixture of red wine and beer, which surprising was tasty.

excellent service, excellent food and the decor is fun and cheeky. Was a really busy Friday night and we didn't book, so had to wait approx 15min for a table but was all worth it. Definitely lived up to the hype. Our friends told us to try the pani puri and thali for mains, so we gave the pani puri a go and wow its something I've definitely never had before and loved it. it was very messy but tasted great. For the mains we tried the maharaja thali which included the lamb vindaoo, chicken tikka masala, dal, rice, naan, raita and salad which was fabulous. It wasnt overally spicy, just the right spice level for me. my partner ordered the Goat thali from the specials board and it was very rich and tasty, i ended up eating most of his goat curry and swapped it with my dal :)
Anupama Singh
They are good... Service takes a little find time but thali is a good option to go for ...pani Puri and dahi Puri are okay not that great.<br/>Place is small but paints with Indian touch ..not a loss if you miss the place
Foodiemelb1
We've heard some good things about this place for a while from our friends and finally were able to pay a visit and we're so glad we did. The restaurant is small and for a Tuesday night they were fully packed out. We waited only 10min for a seat to be available and the waiter was very friendly and hospitable. He recommended us to sample some 'chats' and try a main like the dosa or thalis. We started off with the pani puri which was like a party in the mouth! there were bursts of different flavours like sweet/tangy/spicy/salty and just worked perfectly. It  got a bit messy initally but once we got the hang of it, we were fine. Another entree we tried was the chicken tikka. It was so juicy and tender and the green chutney accompaniment gave it the perfect kick. For mains we tried the masala dosa and chicken biryani. the Dosa was delicious as the edges were crunchy and the middle was very soft and tasty. The chicken biryani was my favourite. it had a great blend of spices had a nice kick to it, so the yoghurt raita that came with it helped cool down my palette. We wanted to go for dessert but were too full so we will definitely be visiting again

As an Indian chef and restaurateur in the eastern suburbs, I love experiencing new eateries around Melbourne, and I found Delhi Streets about 6 months ago and now has been my go to place for authentic, flavourful chaats and other mains. My favourite is the Aloo Tikki and Samosa Chaat. both never disappoint! for mains I try their Thali or If Im really missing home cooked meals, I try the Chole Bhatura. The bhaturas are so fluffy and soft and the chole are very well spiced. you can tell this place is a family run business and you feel the love through the food and service. Keep up the great work guys!
Pete
Real busy restaurant serving great food. We tried the aloo tiki and Samosa chaat, and was a flavour explosion the mouth - sweet , spicy, tangy . For mains we tried the special Thali with lamb vindaloo, butter chicken and eggplant masala. Again the curries were delicious. We finished our meals with a serve of gulab jamun, excellent finisher to a great meal
Amruta
Ordered dinner from here. Chaat was okay. Chicken biryani was absolutely horrendous. It was stale and awful in taste. Would not recommend it to anyone and would be wary of eating rice or chicken dishes
Anshul Munjal
Visited melbourne last month was looking for a resturant which serves indian street chaat found Delhi streets and trust me the food made me feel i never left india doing a superb job with the food and service would highly recommend😊<br/>Cheers!
Chand Mehta
best food ever highly recommended living in Melbourne for 8 years and haven't had such authentic Indian food like Delhi streets love the pani puri and the special thali.

Great find! The chaats in this place are amazing, reminding me of my trip to India earlier this year! our favourite was the Samosa Chaat. the thick pastry was filled with a spicy potato and pea filling that went really well with the tamarind and green chutney they had. It was on a chickpea base, which was very well spiced. One of the mains we tried the chicken biryani which again we loved as it had a great depth of flavour. When we visited Punjab, they served a biryani there, very similar to this place. For one of the desserts, we had the Gulab Jamun and man was it delicous! the dumpling was so soft and sweet and was a great finisher to our meal. Service was very friendly and the decor was funky and cool - Thank you Delhi Streets for a fantastic night out!

Delhi Streets is quite popular as a cheat eats place, located far far away from the city center, near the Spencer street/Southern cross end of Flinders lane, on Katherine place near Luxbite. Best to walk up from the Aquarium. A small restaurant with only a few tables and mainly bar seats, all the tables were booked on this Tuesday evening.
Bioslaya
Always a great feed here, my only complaint is that they never have really spicy curries.<br/><br/>Would recommend the chicken biryani for those aren't too sure about curries, otherwise go for the thali and pick your curries.  If you're lucky enough to sit facing the kitchen you'll be forever entertained by one of the cooks baking the naans that'll soon end up on your plate.<br/><br/>Chai Masala was a bit too expensive for what it is, but quite nice with a depth of flavour.
Food Baby
Fantastic! This family run Indian resto is the best I've found in Melbourne. Both the butter chicken and lamb spinach curries are delights, and well recommended, but it was the Chana Bhatura, with its inflated fried bread and an amazing curry with tamarind goodness that is the real deal here. The Aloo Tikka Chaat has a similar tamarind and mint flavour goodness, and is a complementary side dish for the Thali.

This place is awesome, the staff were super accommodating and the best part was that the food was delicious. We will most definitely be back and recommend to others.
Tay Tee
Indian mixed with a bit of Mediterranean in the Indian pizza. We ordered a few different dishes and shared amongst ourselves. <br/><br/>Good portions that can be adapted to how many people you have. Complete value for money. Recommend trying a variety of little dishes within the group. Would definitely go back!
VeggieAbH
Nice to see close to authentic Indian street food in the city. Aalu tikki is very nice. Chole bhature are a tad bit less spicy but cooked very well. The bhaturas are cooked perfect. Bhel is also nice and so is the paneer naan pizza. Dahi papdi and samosa chaat are okay. Not a big fan of their pani puri but a few friends liked it. Highly recommended for Indian fast food in the CBD area.
Veginspo
Affordable food, fast service and absolutely spot on with their flavours! What more could you ask for? I love the Bollywood theme this place and the décor is fun. Great small spot for a quick feast before heading out to take over the city!

Ordered takeaway, told it'd be ready in 10 mins. Arrived 15 mins after order placed, they begun making my order once I arrived. Would have been acceptable if restaurant was busy but there were only a couple of patron dining, staff were chatting. Eventually got order of a masala dosa and masala chai. Dosa serving size slightly smaller than other places, bit too thick so wasn't as crispy as I'd like. Potato filling was under seasoned but adequate level of spice. Coconut sauce and sambal were average. Masala chai lacked spices, overly sweet and too hot! The staff member making the dosa wasn't wearing gloves and before packaging away my order was coughing and sneezing. Wouldn't return.

On a vacation to Melbourne, staying for ~5 days in CBD, this was the best Indian food that we had in this time. The food tasted authentic, and was good! Have a good vegetarian spread. Can improve a bit by extending the operating hour by 30 minutes atleast, if not more. Also, the location is a bit obscure, so some directions on the website would also be good!

Delhi Street is a trendy Indian street food restaurant that offers a large selection of Indian food from Chaats, curries, dosa, samosas, Indian pizzas and breads that are all made fresh on the premises. Well worth a visit and it will soon become one of your favourite places. Everything we ate could not be faulted. It all was fresh, flavoursome, well balanced and presented beautifully. A definite winner
Charizard
Had their Mix Thali (with Garlic Naan) and O.C.D. Naan. The thali was great as both the curries were decent but the portion was rather small. However, the raita was refreshing while the salad was slightly spicy (probably due to the onions) yet appetising. We had our original naan (from the mix thali) exchanged for garlic naan, and it was totally worth it! The naan was crispy, not too oily and was accompanied with a charred garlic aroma. It was a simple garlic naan but it was delish and I could eat it even on its own! The O.C.D (onion, chilli, dhaniya) naan was also delectable, but pales in comparison with the rustic garlic naan. We had Masala Chai for drinks and had their Pistachio Kulfi Ice Cream for dessert. The masala chai was satisfactory but the ice cream was too creamy and too sweet (it was my first time having this dessert, so maybe it was meant to taste like this?). Nonetheless, their garlic naan was one of the best that I have had tasted and would highly recommend it for naan-lovers!

Delhi Streets serves pani puri, which is a street food that you don't commonly see in other Indian restaurant. They did it pretty well too. The place is very small and packed but looks clean and comfortable. They also have interesting Indian drinks and menu. The Indian pizza is made of naan and I can see the making through the glass window all the way until it reached my table. The serving size for Tahli is also pretty generous.

This place is a really nice experiance and it was really good food! The butter chicken was my first experiance of the dish and i had it talked up to me so much, but it dissappointed me as it tasted like chicken in tomato soup! The street food experiance is amazing though, the pani puri and papri chat are incredible! <br/>they were severly understaffed when I went and according to other friends I know that have been it is always the same!<br/>Go but stick to the street food its amazing!

Went to this restaurant with family for the first time and loved everything that we tried there....will definitely go back for more yummy food.
Kevin Alcapp
Pretty good experience overall. The food is decent, nothing crazy tho, could be more flavourful, spicy. The Curries servings are quite small but you get a bit of everything on your plate for 12/14$ which is reasonable. Modern environment with an open kitchen, nicely decorated, a change among the other Indian places around.
Beau
hands down best indian in town. cleaner than the places in the suburbs. the platters dont come with much meat in the curries but you can order a cheap chicken tikka for extra protein. the mango lassi was really good and fresh.
JH
Really tasty chicken biriyani and matar paneer. Nice setting and fit out inside. One of the better Indian lunch options in the CBD but slightly more expensive as well. Worth it though.
DuckieLovesToEat
I had been hearing people rave about this place so it has been in my bucket list of places to try. So I ventured and checked this place out for lunch. Unfortunately, I made a mistake of not checking their trading time. I came here and it was already 2.15pm so I decided to just takeaway instead of coming back on another time. The staff here are very friendly and accommodating. I went for the Maharaja Special - choice of any three curries served with rice, naan, pappadum, raita, and salad. I find the three curries really tasty. I always love eating butter chicken and the butter chicken here was great. Although, I find the other two curry dishes a tad salty and those were the beef and eggplant. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints.
Deli Pickles
What a great little place. Quick easy food, well priced. Friendly staff. Honestly, a good quick delicious indian meal. Very glad to have found this place.
Love It Or Like It
Great find, colourful , fun , simple decor in a very comfortable , enjoyable space . Staff friendly and efficient. Food delicious , best butter chicken as part of curry plate . We loved it , recommend it and going back very soon .
MelbourneFoodPaparazza
Got the Mix Thali here for $12 and was highly impressed by the punchy, spicy flavours and generous portion sizes. Both the curries ordered (beef and potato) did not skimp on the chilli while coming with plentiful amounts of naan, basmati rice and raita. Was initially sceptical because of the hype surrounding 'Melbourne's best cheap eat' and the hipster friendly decor (which indicates to me often that I'm going to be charged over $12 for a mediocre sandwich). However, this is one time you can actually believe the hype.
Ant Ony
Everything I've had so far is brilliant, very tasty, a lot of nice flavours, great prices makes it very affordable to have a day or two a week for lunch at work, Chicken Frankie Wrap is very nice!
Brunching Around
So much flavour! The pani puri are delightful and fun to eat, the dosa was crispy and delicate. The girl looking after us was warm and friendly. A relaxed, personable ambiance. Can't wait to go back
TheZenChick
Vibrant and bustling eatery and a clean-cut version of a street vendor. <br/><br/>Peer in the windows from the outside and you'll see people chatting away on a mixture of tables and benches with stools. The kitchen is open and you can look in to see the skillful preparation of the naan over a custom stove or the jovial hustle of the kitchen. <br/><br/>The Pani Puri was a must try dish at our table and is quite a spectacle when each person attempts to make the least amount of mess when trying to bite into a crispy cracker ball filled with an aromatic liquid. <br/><br/>I had the mixed thali and wasn't disappointed when my dish came out on a big platter with an array of curry, rice, naan, salad and raita. Eat and chat away under the watchful eye of bollywood poster stars. Lot's of fun and will definitely be back
The Frugal Cats
Lovely little restaurant with funky posters all over the wall! Service was friendly and prompt. The mango lassi was nice but probably not the best you will find in town. The 'dahi vada' (lentil fritter with yoghurt and tamarind sauce) was delicious, however it would have been nicer if the fritters were hot (they were pretty cold). The 'channa bhatura' (chickpeas curry with fluffy bread) was the star dish of the night and a 5 out of 5, even though the chickpeas portion was small compared to the amount of bread provided. We also had the non-vegetarian thali, curries were nothing special and your typical run of the mill curries. Butter chicken was nice and the lamb from the madras curry was pretty tough. Definitely check out this place if you're in the area :3
Vinny
Pretty tasty little Indian shop. They have their normal menu and nice little menu board too. It's basically just your usual Indian favourites but some with a twist like Indian pizza on naan bread. The masala dosai was not bad too little small on the stuffing but other than that pretty good. Portions are quite big and pricing is really good if this was more well known in the city with more seating I reckon it'd go off.. Check it out for sure if your in the mood for casual Indian

Must try for everybody!!! Best samosas I have ever had, ever! Just amazing. Service is awesome, and all curries are tasty and fresh. My boyfriend and I adore coming here on regular dates.
Charlene
Cosy little place tucked in the back street - such a hidden gem! It was a random discovery on whitenight without any expectation, I have to say I was nothing but absolutely impressed with the friendly staff and my vegetarian thali - which came with fresh naans yums! Raita was delicious too - not too creamy/sour/watery, just the right taste and consistency; I don't remember enjoying Raita this much! Curries were very authentic and not oily, totally felt like its cooked with love, like homecooked meals. Went back again today - despite busy lunch hour, my thali meal was again equally impressive! Can't wait to try other dishes soon! :-)
AFREEN SAGHEER
By far, the best place in Melbourne if you want to have Indian chats. Papdi chat and batura chat should be on your must-try list if you are visiting this restaurant.
Food Affair
Nice little restaurant located in cbd! Really nice place to grab some nice and cheap dinner in the heart of the city! Love it all time, definitely a must try:)

Passion, Colours, Vibrant, Bollywood, Delhi street food gone upscale and delish ......<br/><br/>A bit tricky to find this place, best to be on a public as parking is not easy.<br/><br/>I'm sure street food in Delhi is not as clean and neat as this place. Quaint, just the way we like it, not a big space, don't even have their own toilet within their space (shared), more like a quick eat, take away, a couple small tables are available.<br/><br/>Impressive Tandoor oven, clear glass to protect and let us enjoy the action in the kitchen. Their food certainly aren't lacking with punches.<br/><br/>Kudos to the team there, you can tell that they are passionate about what they are offering to their patrons. They keep on apologising to us for the delay in delivering our orders, we are just happy to wait and watch the Masterchef plays with his dough and Oven.<br/><br/>Love the Bollywood touch, not subtle but just right, volume down is much appreciated.<br/><br/>Can't believe what they are charging for that Thali, just unbelievably good.
Out And About
If you ever want to eat genuine Indian street food, India is probably not the best place to start (if you're coming at it with a Western stomach). <br/><br/>Instead you can come enjoy a great selection of Indian food at Delhi Streets. <br/>We enjoyed a mixed Thali and a Dosa. I found the Dosa to be a little bit on the side and was left still feeling hungry - nothing a serving of Samosa Chaat couldn't fix👍

Brilliant chats available at this place. I will definitely visit again. Taste is awesome, after a long time I had such a nice Indian chats in Melbourne CBD.
Robbie Isenhood
This is one of the best Indian places Ive ever been to. The customer service is how customer service should be 10 out of 10 and the food is full of flavour and made with love again 10 out of 10!! Thank you for the great service and absolutely delicious food. I will be back!! And so cheap!! Amazing!
Maggie Greenham
This place is amazing. I found out about it two weeks ago and have gone back twice since. The curries for the thali change everyday and are all super tasty. the naan is great and so is the chai. it's also amazing value. Everything is around the $10 mark, such awesome value for a super tasty meal. <br/>The staff are also super friendly
Kanchana Perera
Hidden away in an alleyway opposite the aquarium and has amazing Indian St food. Pani puri was a winner with everyone and the bhel puri was one of the best I've tasted in Melb. We loved the variety in starters that we had enough to make into mains. The thali and dosa looked and smelled great so will have to try next time. Super busy place so make sure you book!
Rishabh Shukla
Awesome food with interesting options which really remind me of the amazing Delhi Street food.<br/>Loved the aloo tikki and chana bhaturas!<br/>Highly recommended for not just the tasty food but also reasonable pricing.
Dilep Raja
Awesome food and taste. I pretty much tried all the veg option available and it was great!! I would never say never if anyone calls for me a party to this place :)

If you're in the western part of the CBD looking for a cute lane way restaurant, this is a great little find - really good quality food in a funky setting. Be sure to drink the Indian beer - it's very strong but very tasty.
Sruthi
A good Indian restaurant in CBD. Was here for lunch and had a vegetarian thali. It tasted homely and really good.<br/>The only downside is that its a bit too noisy to have a conversation with someone.<br/>Food 4/5<br/>
Michael Batley
Bit poor when all of you food hadn't come out because they were slow and unable to coordinate a large table, that they would insinuate you need to hurry up because someone else had booked the table after you. Guy rolled his eyes at us when we asked for water. Food great, service an attitude poor.
Marasat
We have Cheap Eats to thanks for us visiting, as we had no idea the street it is in existed, let alone the restaurant!<br/>Small with its walls plastered with Indian movie posters, I went with two Indian colleagues, who love their food. No pressure!<br/>They decided on the special Thali, a serving of three curries with rice, naan, pappadum and raita. Presentation was excellent, matched by flavour. Yum<br/>I thoroughly enjoyed a chicken biryani, which included boneless chicken pieces, whereas most would serve on the bone.<br/>We all left happy!
Rama Ravi
My benchmark of a good Indian restaurant has always been the number of Indians I see tucking into the food, and this place was lacking sorely in that department. Had my misgivings on entering the place, but decided to give the place a honest try.<br/><br/>Started off with some Pani Puri, which was played very well. However, the puris were stale and lacked the crunch which you typically associate with a good Pani Puri.We moved on to some Dahi Vada, given that it was a hot day in Melbourne and again found the flavours lacking. We rounded off the entrees with Aloo Tikki, which was the saving grace.Still lacking in flavour and substance, but seemed fresh.<br/><br/>Moving onto the main course, we ordered a Chola Bhatura, where the portion of chola was disproportionate to the 2 Bhatura which was given. On requesting for some extra chola, they had the cheek to charge extra for it, which is a lousy thing to do, given that it is standard practice to offer extra sambar, chutney or other accompaniments gratis. Only saving grace was that the Bhatura was non greasy.<br/><br/>Service was extremely poor with one person manning the place and frenetic hand waving taking place to attract the waiters attention.<br/><br/>Definitely avoid this place. You are better off making the trek to Dandenong, Footscray or Caufield for authentic Indian fare.
Sarah O
Amazing tastes in every dish.<br/>The value is insane, unbelievable actually.<br/>Would have been great if there was more than one person working the floor. The gentleman was lovely and so friendly. <br/>Will return for sure, highly recommend it
Feed Me
A high quality, cheap & fast lunch time treat. <br/><br/>Food ordered:<br/>Working close by I have had most of the dishes on the lunch menu. The lunch thali is great value and always made to order. The naan is great and every curry is balanced and hits the spot if your in the middle for Indian. <br/><br/>Ambience:<br/>The decor here takes you straight to the streets of Delhi. The staff are always friendly and make every effort to bring the best service. You will have to be cautious of wait times during lunch as it does get quite crowded. <br/><br/>I will say this is a grey lunch spot for anyone local and if your looking for dinner in the cbd, they do that too!

Indian street food is full of flavour, very moreish and most often eaten on the side of the road in India. Delhi Streets has managed to replicate the flavours of the roadside and put them on a plate in a Melbourne restaurant. The panipuri is my favourite, and I wish the plate would be filled infinitely, just like they do in India!

Indian food at its simplest and best! Casual eat in or take out place, very friendly and helpful staff and the price is unbeatable. Good place for a group catch up and food is designed to share.
The City Lane
Having opened in March 2015, Delhi Streets has quickly made an impact taking out the ‘Best Cheap Eat’ award in The Age Good Food Guide 2016, offering affordable Indian street food in a casual setting. We were recently invited to sample the menu at Delhi Streets and were very interested to see if it lived up to the hype.

This was our first eat in Melbourne, after hearing so much about the infamous foodie scene. Sicking true to the back-packer accommodation mindframe we were staying in, a cheap eat was what we were after; we didn't expect this amount of quality food to come with it though.<br/><br/>The food was simply delicious, and crazy cheap as well. I got the Special Thali and my girlfriend got ordered the Frankie Wrap. For the price and their ability to completely fill us up, we were astounded. There weren't many seats in this place (would probably only hold 25-30 people max), but the staff were attentive and the food came out without a huge amount of wait. As mentioned in another review, the rice portions weren't huge, however there was yummy naan break to help mop up the selections of curries, and we left very satisfied. Would recommend this  to anyone on a budget wanting a great indian fix in the CBD.

In my last trip across western India, I discovered a wonderful street snack called Bhel Puri (puffed rice salad with lots of onions, tomatoes, coriander served with a tangy dressing) and a local version of a cola called Thums Up (no it's not a typo). So when a colleague suggested this side street off Flinders Lane where they have lots of boutique eateries, I thought why not. Upon inspecting the menu at Delhi Streets and noticing the 2 aforementioned items, I thought this is a sign!<br/><br/>As the name suggests, Delhi Streets serves a wonderful plethora of Indian chaat (savoury street snacks) fusioned with urbanism, i.e. wraps, burgers and pizzas. The decor is wall-filled with Bollywood movie posters and a rustic flag of India. Chairs and stools have imprints of famous Indian brands like Tata, Maruti, etc.<br/><br/>Service is friendly albeit a little slow and the serving size, especially the rice (ordered the special thali) could be a bit more generous. Found it a bit frustrating not to be able to soak up the delicious curry sans rice but luckily it also came with naan. Anyway the experience brought back memories and I'd definitely be back to try the Pav Bhaji.<br/><br/>

Delhi Streets have captured the culture and flavours of Indian street food and created a little space where you can have a brief escape to the streets of India right here in Melbourne. Winners of The Age Good Food 2015 cheap eats award, Delhi streets offer an amazing menu at affordable prices. The family business brings authentic Indian dishes to the table that are full of flavour and packed with awesomeness. You could say it’s Delhicious!

The streets of India has made it’s way to the streets of Melbourne. More specifically, in the street known as The Archway in Katherine Place, the up and coming food precinct in ‘the other side’ of Melbourne’s CBD. Delhi Streets focuses on street style Indian food spread across the popular north, where it rains curry and scrumptious south where the staple is briyani and dosa.

Kevince has always been a big hater on indian food as he does not like the overpowering scent of spices but I was so glad that this place turned him around, first of all the service here was supa friendly and helpful. The waitress walkd us through the menu and all little detail of the dishes we were not familiar with. Food was great, affordable and the portion size was very reasonanle. The people there and vibe was amazing... what a bomb in such a small little place. We are so looking forward to go back again. Thumbs up for you guys 😉

Delicious food. Service and staff are super friendly. The food prices are unbeatable! Extremely cheap for very good value. The quantity and quality is way more than what you for. So its good for both dining and a quick meal

Great food! Great people! Great taste! loved the place so much.<br/>Every dish we ordered tasted amazing! (Pani Puri, Papri Chaat, Mix Thali, Aloo Tikki, Gulab Jamun and Chocolate Naan).

Love this place. Came here with my young son twice when we were here recently on holidays. Super tasty & interesting menu. Staff are lovely and the prices are incredibly good.<br/>N.B. It's in Katherine Place NOT The Archway as listed on this site.

Delhi streets is fun, different (than your usual indian restaurants) and authentically street food. For less than $50, We got 2 thalis (1 veg and 1 non-veg), papri chaat, drinks AND DESSERT ! ( thats what we call "street food" in India -- economical and mouth-watering) <br/>The papri chaat was light, crispy and zingy (just the way I like it). Thalis were also a delight ! The curries were rich in flavour, the naan was fluffy and the rice were fragrant. <br/>We got pistachio kulfi for dessert -- there's not much to say about that. Its a 5/5 !<br/>The restaurant is relatively small but the decor is vibrant and the ambience is peppy. The service is great on the whole and the staff is helpful when theres a situation. For instance, if you turn up with small children. Being quite crowded, there's not much space for prams, etc but I've seen the staff handle the situation very well somehow. I would still advice people to leave that in car if they can, because it does create a bit of a nuisance for others. <br/><br/>All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Will definitely be back !<br/>Keep up the good work guys !
Wissam Ollaik
Great food and excellent ambiance...definitely worth coming back! We tried the Samosa Chaat and the non veg thali with Beef Vindaloo and it was delicious. We finished with a Pistachio Kulfi that was creamy and not overly sweet, just perfect

<br/> I was compelled to write a review after coming across a few reviews ,that have not been very encouraging. <br/>My experience is another story! -<br/><br/><br/>Discovered this little bollywood themed eatery a couple of weeks back. The best cheap eat award hangs framed in pride on the wall as you enter the warm and cosy restaurant for all right reasons! <br/>Have tried almost everything on the menu, and it is soo soo good. <br/> All the ladies greet you with a smile on their face and the warmth definitely reflects in the flavours this place has to offer. The service is all smiles and no frowns, despite all my odd demands . With an open kitchen, it is clearly visible how things are made and the joy with which they're made. <br/><br/> Authentic Indian street food, from the water accompanied with pani puris to their papri chaat and bhel puri, everything is purely authentic. Have been to various Indian eateries in Melbourne but this one, stole everybody else's thunder. <br/> Having a glass of wine with entrees and mains (for 2) AND desserts (oh the pistachio kulfi!!) in less than 50$ is ridiculously cheap.<br/><br/>YES. They do charge extra 2$ for a chutney or raita, but hey? Business is business at the end of the day and I'm sure none of our bills can be paid with smiles on our faces and warmth in our hearts. Can't really blame the eatery! and bad customer service? I think we all have a tendency of projecting our feelings onto others, without any intention of offending anyone and with due respect to everybody else's opinion on this platform, i'd like to end by saying, if other well established indian restaurants were anywhere close to this newly born 6 months old baby (offering same quality and such prices), they'd have the award hanging on their walls. Way to go, DS! Keep working hard in silence & Let your success make the noise.. <br/><br/><br/>Ps. 4.5 so that you keep working hard. <br/><br/><br/><br/> <br/>
Food Babe
Lost all marks on customer service. The food was western and customer service Indian and not caring when I complained about the food lacking chutney. With the non caring attitude to fix my food and instead asking me to pay two dollars to get a simple green chutney that is there is there in all kathi rolls, why will I come back when there is heaps more competition out there with more authentic street food and better more australian customer service. You need to keep the customers happy not complain (in hindi) about how they are refusing to spend two dollars on chutney that should be provided with most meals. Please try and dine at anshuman ka dhaba or calcutta sweets and see why they are such a success with the Indian community.

A few weeks ago we dropped by Delhi Streets for some lunch. Here you can get a meal for around $10-$12, or try some of their street chaat or wraps for even less money. The seating area is not big and we visited during peak lunch hour, but we managed to grab an empty spot by the window. The three of us ordered 3 meals, 1 street chaat, 1 dessert and a mango lassi.
The New Fave
There is an abundance of delicious lunch venues opening up in the CBD at the moment, and Delhi Streets is no exception.  Offering more than just the standard curry, Delhi Streets prides itself on serving up Indian street food that is fresh, affordable and tasty. As expected with any good Melbourne lunch spot, the venue was bustling and had a line out the door.  Whilst Delhi Streets offers a take-away option, it only took 10 minutes until we were seated by the exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff.
Jeremy Young
The ambience and service is lovely. I ordered the vege thali and was a little disappointed. The serving sizes of the 2 curries was tiny and most of the dish was carb-heavy (naan, pappadum, rice). The curries were lacking in spice. There are better Indian places that don't get as much hype which I would return to before coming back here.
Linda
I had the butter chicken and eggplant curry both were tasty. Garlic nann was very oily, however texture was nice. Portion was okay slightly on the small side, however the taste makes up for it. The meal costed $12.50. Service was prompt. I would come back for a quick lunch.
Jesspo
Long awaited. This is the kind of place that is long awaited on in this pocket of Melbourne; cheap, and trendy lunch and dinner options are in short supply! The staff here are wonderful, and always friendly. Menu options are fairly extensive. Both times I've had the non-vego plate and it was delicious! The only thing is I would have liked a bit more curry as the pots they are served in are pretty small. I'll definitely be back again!

Delhi streets has become a favorite city eatery of mine. I’ve done a blog post on it before, but I go there so often that they deserve another post. Delhi streets is located in “The Archway” off Flinders lane on the Spencer street side of the city. The menu consists of Indian street food chaat, thalis and some fun fusion items such as naan pizzas and wraps.
Gastrology
Thanks to Charan Singh’s passion for high quality Indian food that is deliciously light, the dream for fresh and fiercely flavoursome street food as served on the streets of India is now a reality. The ambience is modern and colourful, an extension of Delhi Streets’ contemporary interpretation of Indian cuisine.

Great food, service and decor! The food is Very authentic, the service is with a smile and genuinely wanting to please and the decor is very cool, great atmosphere!

After reading many great reviews of this place my friend & I thought we'd give it a try for a Friday work lunch, while getting a bit of a walk in during the day.  We both had the mixed thali - non-veg curry was lamb, veg curry was dhal.  Overall it was reasonably good but the flavours didn't blow me away - could have been spicier, and the lamb was quite solid (I like my lamb to fall apart), but tasty nonetheless. Definitely a nice option if you're in the area, but not one I'll be going out of my way to return to (seeing as work is a 20 min walk away).

Amazing place! Amazing food! Amazing people! I was there first time and I'm absolutely in love! Delicious food, fabulous atmosphere, very friendly stuff. Great beer 5000 ! And anything what we ordered was absolutely amazing!!!! My favourite were ice cream with pistachios ! Very big thank you for the stuff for such a great experience!

Food was good but not great. The serving sizes were pretty small but was well priced.

Wow this place is a killer. Lovely authentic indian food full of flavor and spice. You feel satisfied without the oily heavy feeling. They find the perfect balance with the spices so you won't get your usual fluorescent yellow turmeric dishes. A must try!

Love this place. <br/><br/>A little hard to get a seat during the lunch rush hour - and they're packed!<br/><br/>Great menu - packed with street favs and average wait times for meals. What's brilliant is they stock Thumbs Up! <br/><br/>Going to be back for a meal later in the day - when I've more than a quick lunch hour. <br/><br/>Friendly service.

I frequent this restaurant at least 3 times a week.. It is hands down the best Indian food in the CBD and great value for money! The Dahi Vada is my favourite dish.. although you can't really go wrong on this menu, everything tastes 11/10. Other favourites include the Tandori chicken wrap, Masala Dosa and Mixed Thali's. Ambience is great as is the service !!
The World Loves Melbourne
Delhi Streets is an exciting colourful if not chic Indian restaurant in The Archway precinct and has become our new Indian favourite. The World Loves Melbourne feels Melbourne has decent Indian restaurants but not that many of them. Delhi Streets captivates with its approacheable street food, Bollywood posters and fun ambience. In terms of smart cheap eats Delhi Streets has burst on to the scene as a chart topper. We were impressed by the quality of cuisine and the overall experience, having been invited to imbibe the lunch menu.
Heidi
A complete hidden treasure! We have been here three times, every time the service is spot on! They are all lovely! The pani puri is a must! It's always amazing!!
Mega
Amazing! I had the mixed Thali which came with one veg curry, one non-veg curry, raita, salad, pappadum, rice and naan. It was the perfect amount of food and the flavours were fantastic. The mango lassi was thick and tasty while the chocolate m&m naan was surprisingly nice and not too over the top. I like that it is a small place and I especially like the cheap prices! Great vibe and great staff, I've already planned to return tomorrow!
Pritida
Ordered bhel which didn't have a balance of flavours. Hence asked for chutney which came at a cost of $2 for a table spoon. Was recommended the pav bhaji by the staff and it was terrible. Probably not the dishes to order at this joint.

Every Monday night I have dinner at my mother in law’s house in the city. We always get takeaway. Alice loves Nandos but after eating Nandos every Monday for months I felt it was time for a change. I did a bit of research and found Delhi Streets had just opened around the corner. I am so glad that I found this place! We now go every week (when we are in the country.) We decided to eat in one night, and it was lovely.

I get take away from here every other week. I've also eaten in a few times. Pretty much have tried everything on the menu! My favourites: the thalis, samosa chat and the pani purri. I love their mango lassi too. The servings are generous, the staff are super friendly and when eating in- the environment is warm, colourful and a tad romantic (in a hipster sorta way) <br/>The food is amazing. Great flavour. Their curries are rad. Plus -so cheap! <br/>Definitely worth a try if you are in the CBD! <br/>

after spying this new eatery on instagram, we finally made it to Delhi Street on a cold mid week night with the original #workkids #matesbeingmates DL, AG and our resident indian food expert, BP.    @hungrycookiee had recommended some of the street eats, so we started off with the pani puri, crispy lentil balls of potato and chickpea filled with a spicy green 'water'. An explosion of flavour in one bite, this had a spicy and sour kick to it. The perfect way to start off your meal.  BP recommended the dahi vada, something his mum always makes at home. These dumplings of lentil and flour might have seemed bland on their own, but were drenched with a sweet tamarind sauce and yoghurt, which provided all the flavour needed. Also particularly liked the little pile of pear chutney on top.  Thalis are one of my favourite indian dishes, with the choice of butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, eggplant masala and dhal today. We ended up with two platters of these, having decided that one was definitely not enough. Go hard or go home seems to be the motto.  Big silver platters came out with pots of various curries, pappadum, rice, raita, salad and naan. You also got the option of upgrading to cheese and garlic naan. Absolutely loved the chewy garlic naan, with plenty of flavour and perfect for mopping up sauce.  The butter chicken, whilst probably not traditional, was the most flavoursome and one of our favourites. They certainly didn't tread lightly on the spice and chilli in the other curries here, and we were left pretty satisfied with all of them.   I couldn't go past the masala dosa, filled with spicy potato and served alongside a spicy sambar 'soup' and coconut chutney. I've tried dosas which are more thin and crispy, but BP tells me this is similar to his version at home. Either way, we really enjoyed the crispiness of the crepe and the spicy filling inside.  cheap and cheerful, BP described this as the roll'd version of indian food - slightly hip, not exactly traditional but

Delhi Streets is a transformative concept, bringing authenticity to the laneways of Melbourne.  Miles away from your local Indian joint, Delhi Streets is a hands-on dining experience with an explosion of authentic Indian street-food flavours. Melbourne has been crying for good Indian and Delhi Streets came to the rescue. Joining ‘The Archway’ and the likes of T by Luxbite and Mr Huang Jin, Delhi Streets has settled comfortable in the new dining precinct. The cosy space is decorated like an Indian teenager’s room – filled with an art-pop spectacle of Bollywood heartthrobs. The open kitchen houses a Tandoori oven, churning our freshly baked naan and Indian fusion pizzas. The menu is split into ‘Street Chaat’ for street food delicacies, ‘Wraps and Burgers’ for an Indian twist on burgers and wraps, ‘Classics’ for your favourite curries and ‘Desserts’ for the sugar lovers. We tasted the following: Pani Puri  Every restaurant has it’s star dish. For Delhi Streets, the Pani Puri is no doubt the Bollywood star. Deep-fried hollow balls of puffed bread stuffed with onions, chutney chickpeas and spiced mashed potato. Tamarind water, carefully poured halfway, envelopes and combines the flavours in a complex mismatch of spices and aromas. These spherical balls of deliciousness were utterly amazing. Pop them straight in your mouth for a flavour explosion. Mix Thali w/ Rice, Naan, Pappadum, Raita, Salad For an Indian Classic, Thali are platters made up of a selecti

...The food is fun too- think paneer pizza naan, a chicken tikka burrito and naan stuffed with M&M’s for afters. But it’s not all gimmicky with a range of thali, biryani and popular street chaat like pani puri and samosa chaat making an appearance too. There are a handful of beers on the menu, the usual soft-drink suspects and they’re BYO too. If you’re going to do it properly though it’s the yoghurty sweet mango lassis you should be slurping or the Limca (lime soda) or Thumbs Up (cola) which are ubiquitous in India. Our selection of street chaat arrive first. The pani puri are crisp, wafer thin lentil shells stuffed with potato, chickpeas, onions and tamarind chutney...

Delhi Streets is owned by Charan Singh who says that this isn’t your typical Indian restaurant; instead there is a main focus on Indian street food which most Melbournians are yet to experience.<br/>Delhi Streets makes use of its small space really well – peppered with colourful street art posters featuring Bollywood Films and film stars. It seats 28 people at its wooden tables and has a modern street vibe to it – completed with a view into the kitchen where you can watch chefs preparing your food as well as table numbers that sit into Indian refreshment bottles such as Thums Up (Indian version of Coca Cola) and Limca (Indian version of Lemonade and Lime). I love that the chairs have different Indian brands printed on the seats – further adding to the nice personalised touch to the décor.

Today’s lunch warmed me up like how you feel when you slip into a bed where the electric blanket has been turned up to 5 (remember those? I wonder if anyone still has them!). The pop of colour in their logo and the bright posters plastered across the walls made me feel instantly drawn to the place... I order the dosa which he is surprised I’ve never had before! I’m surprised too as the wonderfully authentic flavours really did “ surprise and excite the senses “.
Nic Cril
With the authentic flavors of Indian street food, Delhi Streets brings a new dining experience, sure to surprise and excite the senses!
Sweet And Sour Fork
The Papri Chaat ($7) had me at Indian nachos, and the comparison was indeed apt. Delicate lentil crackers were topped with a sloppy, moreish mix of yoghurt, mint and tamarind chutneys, and soft potato pieces, and finished off with fresh coriander. This is one plate of nachos that won’t go to your thighs.

Love the ambience of this place, good food which is not overly spicy or hot because most places either have it too bland or too spicy. This place however does justice to word medium spicy. The Pani Puri wasnt the best ive had but it was nice, the aloo tikki was something i'd come back for, the paneer pizza was also the best item on the menu. It actually does have a very delhi feel to it as its made on a naan. Stuff u can make at home but its really nice on a friday evening where u cant be bothered and uve got someone make it all for u. Anyways i liked the food and i would recommend it as a good place to have Indian street food and since i mentioned street food i must remind u that food safety / handling isnt a big word here as its literally done the way street food is handled.......... With bare hands! But it wasnt too bad :)<br/><br/>Review number 2:<br/><br/>So my second visit to this place was super disappointing. I think the food quality has gone way below from where they started. They use plenty of ingredients but it lacks good flavor. This visit was more like an amateur home cook doing all the food. Looks like the old saying is very apt here. ''Everything that goes up must comes down''.<br/><br/>

Loved it. Ruby was a great hostess and the food and service was excellent. This little gem is going on to my must do list for our next visit to Melbourne.

Tasty food but needs to improve service. Tasty food but needs to improve the kitchen processes. Food takes ages to come out during lunch time. <br/>Portions are too small.....lucky the food is tasty.

Great food.....good ambience..... I love the food, service and the ambience... Must try are the Thalis and pani puri.

Delicious Indian. I work around the corner from Katherine Place and heard about this place from a work friend. She gave it a great review so I thought I'd try it out. And I'm glad I did. There was great service, delicious food and really cool vibe. The place looks great inside with all the posters. I unfortunately had to get take away but I can't wait to take some friends there and sit inside and really soak up the atmosphere. Highly recommended

9/10 Indian food. This small restaurant is awesome , in 6 days we went there 3 times. They deliver what I, as a white guy understand as very authentic Indian street food. The pani puri and samosas are crispy and delicious, and they are delivered quickly which will assuage the most serious hunger. From there you have the choice of a very tasty very crispy Masala Dosa with great filing. The Thalis are very tasty and generous for the low price. The staff were friendly and helpful. The decor is modern Indian with slight tongue in cheek and the chai is strong in cardamom. If you you are are chai affianado you might look for more pepper but I like it. Strongly recommended for the above the bravery to diverge from gulab jamun to produce a chocolate naan. If you are in the area and like Indian you should treat yourself and your wallet. Go there or miss out!
Mr. Wanderer
Indian street food at its best in Melbourne!!. We went there on a Thursday night and absolutely loved the unique authentic Indian Street food flavour that you would normally experience in the streets of India. We tried Pani puri, Aloo Tikki and Biryani and all of these took us back in memory lane.<br/>We surely will be going there soon to try out more appetizing stuff on the menu.<br/>Ambience of the place is very meticulously planned with Bollywood movie posters and signs that you will be able to relate to, once you walk in, staff is very friendly. <br/>Strongly recommend a visit and find out for yourself guys!!!

Went to this little hidden gem after a comedy show and the warm welcome we reviewed and the hospitality was lovely! Food was divine! The naan bread was made to order and tasted of perfection. The pani purri was delicious and flavourful. Had the thali and it didn't disappoint. Will return to try the dosa as it was sold out :( great new place in the cbd! Want to keep this secret to myself but they deserve the credit!

Lunch weekday. I enjoyed the non veg thali. The two meets, rice and nan bread were just right for a workday lunch. The service was very quick and friendly.<br/><br/>I will defenitely return to try dosa and pani puri next time.
