Review Laksa King - Melbourne

J “Ryan” C
When most people think of Flemington, they mention the racecourse or Laksa King. And there's a good reason why. Laksa King is simply amazing. Great variety of delicious Malaysian food and drinks at reasonable prices and big serves. Service is fast and friendly. Try their famous laksas which are perfect for cold winter days.

I don’t think I have to say anything. The reviews speak for themselves!! This was an efficient vibrant busy Tasty pleasant experience. The staff were 1000% helpful and friendly. The ordering process was not clear to me at first but after a while I saw how it worked and ordered in store but online. Very efficient. The food was first clean and really nice. I will be going back to sample as many items as I can. Overall a great experience and highly recommended

I dined here back when they opened and can only say it’s even better now. Perfectly balanced spices in the curry laksa. Nice little touches and hearty portions to fill and warm even the hungriest. Friendly staff. Quick and easy. Thanks for looking after us.

Food was good as usual however, perhaps due to covid, service was not great this time around. We had two glasses of Teh Tarik dropped on us with a glass shattering on the floor without so much as an apology. Then our hainanese chicken rice arrived without the rice and we were told that the kitchen organised the orders and we would just have to wait... Wait we did until ten minutes later we asked another staff member who got our replacement bowl of rice as it had been sent out with a different order. Food good, service not so much!

My work colleague Jack has rated you highly, so I was keen to try this place out. I opted for takeaway as my colleague was on his way into work. The Laksa Chicken curry was the recommended order, along with an added serve of rice. Certainly enough food for two meals, but I did it in one. The takeaway concept was add your sauce to the dish. The noodles and chicken along with curry sauce were all a pleasant delight. Good tasty food for a good price. Order can be done via app and customer service is good, I am told.

Beautifully done laksa’s and a good variety of Malaysian food that you can choose from. The place is always full, we went for a weekend for dinner and were able to get a table pretty quickly than compared to our previous experiences. The laksas are delicious. The nasi lemak and the nasi goreng options are good as well. We have tried a almost all of the laksa options and vegetarian and chicken curry have been the best liked for us. We like the nasi goreng as well, do not forget to request sambal to go along with this. Not a big fan of the drinks menu

Place to be in Melbourne for tasty, mouthwatering Laksa! We’ve been coming here for years but due to Covid and kind of living faraway, it really took us a while to come back here. I’m happy that the flavour of their laksa is still consistent. We always get the roasted duck laksa with extra eggplant and this time we tried the beef laksa which was really good as well! The serving of their laksa is quite big so 3 of us shared 2 servings but then again, if you’re a big eater 1 bowl of it will definitely make you satisfied!! 10 out of 10 Goodness!!!! 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜

Yummmm laksa sooo good! The curry chicken with roti is also good. If dining in, there's a limit of 1 hr so you pretty much eat and go! Service is quick and the place is pretty noisy as it's always packed, so not really a place you can sit and chit chat for hours.

Been here a few times and every time it is delicious and comforting! You can ask for mild if you don’t want spicy. Portions are great and ingredients are always generous. Chendol is also not bad!

Our favourite dine in and takeaway restaurant in Melbourne. Been there 20+ times and the flavours are always the same.

Love Laksa King dine in and takeaway - great nasi goreng, salt and pepper chicken ribs, salt and pepper calamari, and laksa!
Naomi Sitompul
i love laksa king

The taste and quality of their laksa has gone down dramatically over the years.

laksa, Nasi and mi goreng is always delicious!

I attended laksa after so many years and it was a real disappointment and never will I ever go again!
Firstly, I understand they don’t take bookings and once you get there you put your name down for table, however, they somehow skipped me and my partner and made us wait 40-45 mins when there was soooo many people that came in after us supposedly a group of 6 people and allowed them to enter much after us. I had to say something to the staff member otherwise we would never have gotten a seat. The food was poor, I have had much better laksa and including their rice/noodle
dishes were poor! When it came to payment they only accept ‘CASH’ which is their way of evading tax! And this is something I definitely know since I am in the legal profession and I know how people/businesses work. After overlooking into the kitchen which is near the cashier it is honestly horrendous! Never have I seen such a messy, dirty and unhygenic kitchen and made me sick almost at the point of throwing up after I had to force myself to leave the restaurant otherwise I would’ve had thrown up and my thinking process at that time was “how much terrible bacteria did I just ingest!?”
I came and conquered after so long and will NEVER RETURN AGAIN!

Laksa is really outstanding in this place. But beware of huge bowls - perhaps enough food for 2 people. Gets crowded at times but worth the wait.

When you want to experience a great Malaysian food done right, big proton and at amazing price. This is where you want to go!

It doesn't matter if you are you that hungry, order roti! The sauce is amazing. I have to say laksa is a bit of a 50% game of chance. First time I went was amazing. Second time it felt a little watery.

Lemon chicken was SO AMAZING. And Singapore noodle could do with a bit more spice (once again, second time was a little light... not sure if it just that day)... all in all. Great place.

It is usually really pack. And they only accept cash (but ATM available inside the restaurant)

This is one of my favourite Laksa joint. Love their Laksa. And other menu are also great. Their customer service is great too, it is unfortunate that the men’s toilet is dirty and smelly :-(

Been going here for years, consistent delicious food. Can be bit of a wait to get in but 100% worth it. Food comes quick and fast service.
Lauren Prentice
We had the Ipoh Fried Noodles, Roti with Satay Sauce and Combination Curry Laksa. Both of them were tasty, although the curry laksa could've been spicier, so we had to ask for extra sambal. The satay sauce was tasty, sweet and went well with the roti.
The serving sizes were very big so we shared the dishes between 4 people and felt very full afterwards.
🥭
The place to be for a great laksa. Love all the different types of (perfectly cooked) veg they use - my only minor complaint is that some more tofu could be nice. Very cheap for the quality of the meal!

Been here once last 4 year , today with colleague come over lunch omg , it’s busy but the manager provide us a great service and friendly staff served . The atmosphere dining better than previously might renovate, and the food portion is big and tasty, improved a lots . The curry fish thumbs up ^^ and lastly the price reasonable , affordable . Cheers
WK
The food are amazing as usual, great flavour, fast service, everything is on point. However, they have removed their Happy Hour 10% discount without any notice so maybe save your time from travelling all the way here and try to finish your dining before 6:30.
Dylan James
I seriously love this place.
Have only ever really ordered the chicken curry laksa and 5 spice fried chicken and it is continuously amazing. have never waited for my food for longer than 10 minutes in spite of it being the busiest restaurant i go to and the food always comes out super fresh and always super tasty as well as being super filling and cheap!

only thing to be mindful of is it gets SUPPPPEEEER busy and you might need to leave your name and wait 30 minutes but once seated its fine. can be a little crowded but when a restaurant perfects their craft its to be expected

I was brought by for dinner by Malaysians since they say that the fish head soup is really good and authentic. They got their soup and really enjoyed it but I went with the combination laksa as it is their namesake. I really liked the broth, flavourful and tasty with a nice spice. I personally didn't like the fish head soup as it was too sour for my liking.
I was braced for a long wait for a table but was pleasantly surprised when we were able to get a table without waiting long. Although the place is quite big with plenty of table they were all full. Their menu is quite extensive and I would really like to come back to try other menu items since they smelt quite nice, like the char kueh tiew.
They do takeaways and there is a huge menu as you come in. They also only take cash and they have an ATM by the cashier. They are a really cheap and tasty meal option but they are quite far from the CBD.
Sam Venning
On arriving home with take-away Chicken Laksa discovered it mostly contained only one type of noodle. I took it back. Staff unapologetic and declined exchange for refund. I left without Laksa or refund. A disappointing experience after many years of good service and good food.
The Hungry Greek Girl
The best Singapore Noodles I've ever had! and I'm quite a picky wog girl to say the least! The restaurant is always booked yet they still somehow manage to pump the orders out asap! Delicious hot fresh meals, I love that the kitchen is in full view of customers (they have nothing to hide), great prices, fantastic food. We have been coming here for years and satisfied everytime. We also over order every time because we can never decide on just a single meal. We always order without a doubt... The spicy steamed prawn dumplings (my fave), pork spring rolls, curry randang, lemon chicken (OMG!!), fried kuay teow.... yum yum yum! salivating just thinking about it! oh yes, and we had take away laksa tonight ;)

I was a regular at this place over past few months. I fell into the trap of being a 'sheeple'. You know..foolish, easily led by the masses. More people means we're on a good thing. Right? Happy to sit through the 'just a number' experience in this factory-style production line. Coz hey, everyone else does it, why not me too. Right?
I had my final visit here recently. And here's why...
I walked in during a lunch hour. I noticed the place was mostly full near the windows at street. The abrupt style of waiters here forces you to sit to THEIR requirements.. remember, you are 'just a number' in this factory-style production line. Sit as near to windows as possible to make it look busy when one is looking in from outside. That's deception and trickery right there from the get go.
BUT.. I saw there were empty tables near the kitchen at back of eatery. I'm solo and DON'T want to sit squashed amongst strangers in the large windowed area at front. Yes.. I saw the tables (and customers) were so terribly squashed. I realize you Asians are generally 'size 0' customers, however clearly non-Asians are generally NOT!
I declined to sit there. I told the waitress that there are empty tables back near the kitchen. She rudely yelled back at me, "NO. They are not for you. It's a closed area". Haahhaa.. yeah right. It's lunchtime. She clearly doesnt remember me as a regular when it's NEVER been closed off in past few months. Also, she was too busy yelling at me she didn't notice another waitress was leading a group of customers to that exact area. Closed off, hey? My ass!
At this point, I went to sit against a wall (middle of eatery) which had four seats. Remember, I'm a sole individual. I wanted to test her. She got tested, alright! She yelled back at me, "This is not for one people!!!". That's right. She said "one people".
At that moment I happily walked away this 'just a number' experience in this factory-style production line. I made my way next door to Chef Lagenda.. which gave me the BEST customer service, same affordable pricing, BETTER seafood soup. And overall a great POSITIVE experience.
Laksa King? I'll never go back.
Wake up, Australia. One star = easy parking in side streets

child friendly place to eat - with high chairs and kids cutleries

these are some favourites
roasted chicken rice
mee goreng
salted fish fried rice
laksa king fried rice
fish fillet / fish head bee hoon
assam laksa
combination laksa
combination rice / crispy noodles with oyster gravy

(ask for sambal, it’s awesome)

don’t quite like their dishes to share with rice - prefer myong tofu on racecourse road
One of my favourite restaurants. The laksa is rich and delicious. Serving sizes are large and great value for money. Highly recommend the 5 spice chicken ribs. Only fault is that the restaurant is so popular that it is somewhat cramped.

Laksa King is local to me, luckily, as I’d be having to drive from everywhere to eat there. Delicious roti bread, and tofu laksa - both vegan friendly! They are really accomodating when customising orders, even though they are a very busy restaurant! Make sure you have cash when visiting.

My score 4.5 stars (avge of 2 reviews, multiple visits). J and I had lunch here on Thu 19th Sep. Service ok, efficient, and food was quick!

J had a Vego Laksa ($11.80) – Broccoli, Bok Choy, Eggplant, Bean shoots, Mushrooms, Snow peas, Squash, Zucchini, Tofu puffs, Hokkien noodles and heaps of slightly chewy vermicelli. Spicy but creamy curry soup base and it's non-gritty (unlike some places).

I had a Combo Laksa (sans chicken - $11.80) – Bok Choy, Eggplant, Bean shoots, Tofu puffs, lotso fish cake and ok sized prawns. Noodles and soup base the same as Vego.

Both great value, very filling, good any weather. YUM! Long live the King…

Previous review Sep 2018. Great value and food - an exemplar of one of my favourite cuisines. Always seated quickly and staff are efficient and friendly enough considering how busy the place is.

We normally have some version of their Laksa, but we have tried Nasi Lemak w chicken curry - very generous serve and superior to both Chef Lagenda and My Yong Tofu IMO.

We've also had Fried Kuay Teow which was a huge serve, but was a bit oily for us (Chef L's better) and the Curry Puff entrée which was very good.

They use very large good Q paper napkins which are really handy with the laksas…

Quite a busy place, well centred in Flemington and okay food. The surrounding atmosphere is quite pleasant and soothing on a night out, although I found the food that I ordered to be okay.. but not really hit the spot. The roti was good and the curry was tasty but the actual soup didn’t satisfy my tastebuds. Left before finishing. The pricing is average and affordable. All up it was a good night but not a great one. Hesitant to come back.
Bear Noms
Authentic curry laksa with delicious broth and good portion of ingredients of chicken. We also loved the mee goreng which was flavoursome and tasted like home. The curry puff had too much pastry but was also tasty.
The Superscript Diner
❤️ laksa king fried rice ($16); Assam laksa ($13.20): fish fillet curry laksa ($15.50)

👍 great tasting food; fresh ingredients in Assam laksa; broth is well balanced; fish fillet full of texture; great crunch in lady fingers; beautiful ambiance; quick and friendly staff

🕓 beginning to become busy at 12pm midday, Sunday.

❗️tables will begin to quickly fill up between 11.30-12.30pm upon opening of the store, so it is best to arrive during these times to avoid waiting in line for a seat

Food is always good here but one lady who was behind cashier ruined my experience on Friday night. She received a phone call whilst I was paying. She was rude, pushy and impatient with me. She left a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall score : 4.5/5
We came here around 7pm on Wed night and we did expected it wasnt busy any longer for a table for 4 but we were quite wrong. It was super packed and we have to wait outside even thought the weather has been that crazily freezing. We thought just have to only line up outsite until it will be our turn then there was one waitress came outside and welcomed us to wait inside if we want and put our name down. This is first impression due to heavy crowd to control efficiently !!!
Later on, after 10 minutes waiting then we got the table thanks to that gorgeous. I cant remember her name but we know its very fast pace place so everyone quite panick about waiting time for table then keep asking her for their turn. *Sigh
We ordered 4 Laksas and they were all amazing. Yet, i gave 4.5/5 because we asked several staffs about ordering drinks but they quite confused me , probably about their busy excuse. In the end, we were happy to be served by the waitress who took us into the table so it was very lovely to enjoy dinner.
No EFTPOS, they have ATM inside of restaurant so it sounds funny but convenient
Next time we will take photo of Laksa cos we only focus on chatting and finishing whole entire bowl then realise no photo was taken. Shame as me
Def come back soon !
Mike W
We booked our table for three at six o'clock so recommend you book which is an option now to stop long waits. Its quite a pretty restaurant though you sit close to others and the staff are efficient though a little perfunctory. The laksa is huge and cheap and tasty. I always get the combination which has shrimp, fish cake sliced, fried tofu pieces and chicken. Delectable, l really love the wedge of egg plant on top and the curry has a touch of warmth to it perfect for winter. We started with some entrees, satay chicken was ok as were the pork dumplings but the steamed prawn dumplings best hands down. We weren't in any rush and ordered our entrees and drinks first then sat for a while before ordering the laksa. We got asked numerous times if we were ready to order mains staff trying to move us along but we were not perturbed and went at our own pace. They are busy but l dont want my food one on top of the other. By the end we were happy to leave because the seats are pretty hard. Still cash only but if you know you just hit an ATM on the way.

😱Lizzie’s first impression: always a pleasure, never disappointed.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: my one true love is definitely a good bowl of combination laksa and laksa king knows how to hit the spot - everytime without fail. Also love the chicken satay skewers, the hainan chicken rice and also the lychee drink here is so good.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: there’s always a line so you gotta make sure to get in earlier than peak hour.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: I love this place so much and I would come back time and time again.

Laksa King is an institution. Arguably Melbourne's best Laksa, there will always be a line when you come for a bite. But it's well worth the wait. The Laksa is absolutely amazing.
Tommylicious
One of the best places for value and food. Laksa for under $12 with generous serving size and great taste. The ambience is good.

This is one of those places that gets packed every night. It’s a go to.
Harvey Maxwell
First laksa experience, however I have nothing but nice things to say. Ordered the chicken curry laksa, an entree with skewers and dumplings and satay dip etc. and a milk pearl tea - all of which were stellar. Service was fast (though cash-only is a bit annoying), atmosphere was crowded but welcoming, and the food was consistently great. I’ll definitely be back, one of the best value meals I’ve had since coming to Melbourne and it’s local to me.

specialty seafood laksa 😍 flavour reminds me of the little streetfood gems in malaysia 👌 all i can say is try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed! Highly recommend the spicy wasabi prawns also! ❤ easily the stand out dish for me 😊 9/10 for flavour, price and portion ☑

Take away or dine in!! Food is always good here when you’re feeling like a little cheeky Chinese cheat meal. The Laska and roti beef is pretty good there. Also their ice kachang for dessert and fried banana and ice cream yummmmm
Samuel McCall
On a cold Melbourne night, nothing beats going to Laksa king and having a seafood laksa to warm you up! Perfect size fo sharing accompanied by some dumplings and some special fried rice. Once we punched the order in the food took no longer than 10 minutes to reach our mouths. Very satisfied with everything

Quick service and always consistently delicious food. Wait time for a table is never long no matter how busy it gets, food is prepared quickly, very much a dine and dash restaurant. Every dish is tasty but our go to is always nasi goreng, Malaysian curry chicken and combination curry laksa with extra, extra sambal. My favourite desserts are banana fritter with ice cream and coconut panna cotta.

Handy tips: cash only - ATM next to the counter on standby if you forget, for groups a table wont be provided unless everyone is there during peak period and 10% off when dining between 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
Megan Kong
Best laksa in melbourne.

Generous servings and value for money.

Duck fried rice and nasi goreng also delicious.

Available on liven, so you can bypass cash only
Withaknifeandfork
We loved 😍
This place has the best laksa we have had in Melbourne! We have been here countless times and it is consistently as delicious as the previous time! The char kway teow is also a hit! This is definitely the go to for laksa in Melbourne. Service is also very fast and food is cheap!

We disliked 😖
There is always a queue here during peak hour! Although if you are a party of two, it shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes during peak dinner time.
Foodie Sam
Restaurant is very fast pace. Have been coming here for months. Incredible food and service always. Laksa King is well known for their famous Laksa with many options ranging from chicken Laksa to roasted duck Laksa [both so tasty] . They are always extremely busy and are great at keeping up with demand. Seating can be a bit tight but you would be lucky and glad to even be seated. Food is lovely and staff are attentive.
Natasha Cvet
Great food but horrible service!! Ordered 5 dishes and they expected us to eat comfortably on a tiny 2 person table! When we asked to move to a bigger table we were told we would have to go on a waiting list when there were tables next to us that were empty. Once we had finished, we attempted to use the ATM provided which was out of service. I asked them how they expect us to pay and she said to go to the ATM down the road!!! My husband said he would wait for me outside the restaurant and they asked him for I.D if he wanted to step foot outside!! Just disgusting service, will never be back again!!
Yee Leng
Cash only? We ordered 2 x $14 dishes and were Not Allowed to pay in cash. I’m confused. While generally the food isn’t not good, we will not return. The customer service needs to be improved - from the point where customers arrive (so many workers but nobody welcoming), to the attitude when ordering food, to paying for the food. It just doesn’t feel welcome. I like next door better, the “Chef Lagenda”, unfortunately.
Some Bunee Loves Food
The laksa noodle soup here is really yummy - I do not usually like laksa but man I slurped it all the way to the end. The soup is really good.

The teh tarik drink is yummy too. Very creamy and strong tea flavour.

The Duck salad only so-so. Busy place this one.
Kelso
Fast service offering delicious, fresh, flavoursome food.
Large portions, definitely affordable, cash only, no bookings taken so get in early or wait- definitely worth it.
Large menu-can’t wait to return & try something new.
Windy
Had the chicken rice and char kwe tiao and fried rice. They were alright. Very tasty and salty. Very packed. Not sure they can take reservation?
Echohomekitchen
Our go to Malaysian restaurant. Huge recommendation on their laskas and vegetable stir fries. Never disappointed. Only negative is that you most likely have to wait for a bit if you go for dinner. What more can you ask for if they keep the price as low as they are?
Devarshi Desai
I probably would have been here more than 20 times now and it is so famous (and good) that we have to wait everytime to be seated.

My favourite is chicken laksa because it is healthy, it is tasty and it cost $12.
The Wandering Reviewer
Should've written this weeks ago. I'm someone who loves a good laksa and so I'm always concerned when somewhere says they are the 'laksa' anything. But this was a great dinner. The ingredients were perfect and the spiciness was ideal - not too hot or too over the top. Do appreciate that the size of the meal was generous and I could only just finish it. Nice restaurant atmosphere. Not fancy but certainly friendly and welcoming. Prices are reasonable. Staff were fabulous. Note that when I was there - during a peak time - there was a bit of a wait but well worth it. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Be careful with parking.

My Key Three Pointers
*They need you in and out
* No cards but if you need cash they have a ATM🤣
* If you eat between 5.30-6.30 10% off the already cheap cheap.

Finally made it and was not disappointed. I’m the probably the only person who went to Laksa king but left without trying the signature Laksa. I envisioned Laksa but when I opened the 4 page menu got distracted. I wanted to try so many things. I think I need to visit this place 50 times to get a good idea of what’s good and what’s average. So far all the dishes made my love list. We had the peaking duck pancakes, prawn dumplings in chili sauce, special fried rice with duck and the beef with vegetables. I completely understand why people are in Love and the line outside the door. So much food and the price is good actually very good. Walked away paying 53.00 with my 10% discount for dinning between 5.30-6.30. I had no idea about The discount but even without the 10% this is by far the best value for money. Food was so delicious and they know how to pump it out. I ordered and within 15mins it was all out. Should I be scared or impressed? It tasted hot and not pre-made so I’m happy.
It’s not the most spectacular looking restaurant but the concept is to eat and go and when you get your last dish you will also get the receipt. They don’t accept card and I find this super strange but don’t stress they have an atm in the restaurant. The service is very efficient and you won’t need to ask for anything. I left wondering when I can come next and it made me think am I paying to much money when I could dine at Laksa king for a fraction of the price.
GL
Laksa king is a real the real King in Melbourne of Laksa everybody knows that. Deserve all 5 stars for food for price for location for service, and someone complain about something maybe they have to realise where you can eat in Melbourne with 13 dollars ?
Sunny Days Melbourne
Ahhh....the legendary Laksa King, still doing a roaring trade after all these years. They serve authentic Malaysian cuisine in a very busy environment, mimicking the restaurants in Asia.

While their laksa is king, we decided to try a couple of different dishes tonight. Their special fried rice was delicious with a generous amount of meat and vegetables. The combination flat rice noodles was also well prepared and the egg gravy was to die for. The five spice calamari had a nice kick to it and the crispy coating was almost perfect.

Service was fast and friendly despite the large number of customers. It's clear why this place has been thriving for decades!
John B
Fantastic Laksa.

We ordered the Combination Laksa, Fish Head Laksa and the roti bread. Large portions at cheap prices.

One miss was was the Hainanese Chicken.. it appeared more boiled than poached, hence tough.
Fendi
Best laksa in Melbourne. I would also recommend their char kwetiau and chicken rice. They also serve nice malaysian dessert such as ice kacang. Always busy but worth the wait
Michi
Best laksa in Melbourne. I am normally not a fan of curry laksa but this place change my mind. The roasted chicken rice is delicious too. Affordable and huge portion. Highly recommended
JOELLE
Malaysian eatery specializing in Laksa

The place is quite big, lots of seating and since it was a friday night it was pretty crowded. There was a special line for takeaways.
The staffs were pretty nice, despite it being crowded there were quite a lot working. The one serving us was nice enough to talk to us and recommend us their specialties when we were being indecisive. Food came out pretty fast as well. Also when we asked about the imbalance of the vermicelli and yellow noodles, they decided to just give us more yellow noodles on the side.

Combination laksa was a winner, it was great portion and taste was yum. There was chicken, prawn, fishcake and vegetables, all were pretty generous, along with vermicelli and yellow noodles, and that broth was just right, not too coconut-y nor spicy. The only thing I had to point out was the imbalance between the two noodles as there was way more vermicelli than the yellow ones.

My sis had the vegetarian laksa which she said was okay, it was mostly fresh vegs, from broccoli, eggplant, with fried tofu. Still way more vermicelli than yellow noodle.

Fried kuay teow was pretty good, portion was big and toppings was good amount as well (prawns and chinese sausage), it's bit on the sweeter side, but I personally prefer penang style aka more of the wok flavor with bit of spice and bit saltier. Pretty good overall.

Five spice chicken ribs rice was okay, the chicken ribs themselves were great, nicely fried and juicy, and good flavors. I liked the garnishes on top. The rice was just white rice splashed with what i think was supposed to be chicken stock (bcs it's described as chicken rice) but it didn't really taste much aside from sweet and salty, so not a fan of the rice. The veggie on the side compensates the oily flavorful chicken, though can be more generous.

Overall a pretty good place for some Malaysian cuisine.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle

Had a very tasty meal here with a large group of people. All the meals ordered looked good and everyone was pleased with their meal. Food was reasonably priced. The restaurant was very full and people were waiting at the door to get seated. The service was good and prompt. The food portions were very generous. Would highly recommend.
Whalesfoodadventure
Great food here and food comes out really quick. Love the vegetarian laksa with extra eggplant. Beef curry and roti here is also really good.
Love-my-food
Such a worst dine out experience with a toddler. We were there around 5pm while there is less crowd on a weekday. 4 waitresses came to check on us and ask if we have finished our food within 5 mins, trying to rush my kid to finish the food. Haven’t been to a restaurant with such a poor customer service. The restaurant wasn’t really busy that hour, still have lots of seats.
Jiaqi987261
It's lucky i can have dinner in this famous restaurant. One of the best Asian restaurant in Melbourne. Chicken curry is tender. juicy and of course full of flavor. I don't need to try other curry dishes in the next months.

Our local takeaway - we always go for the laksa (of course) or haianese chicken and it’s never disappointed. Very efficient, tasty, and authentic
Lina's Music House
Nice variety of Malaysian food. Will have something to suit your taste buds.

The Laksa is quite oily and doesn't have a strong Laksa aroma. However, some of my friends do love the Laksa at Laksa King.

Foodie123467
The food is very fresh, tasty and well priced! My favourite is the chicken laksa, it's a very generous serve and can feed 2 people for just under $12. It's always super busy but you generally don't have to wait long to get a table and the food is served very efficiently.

A downside is it's cash only but they have an ATM inside if needed.

Hands down the best laksa ive ever had in my life!! The portion is great and the price is even better!! The rotti is also unreal, very fresh doughy

Never get bored with all of the laksa (noodle with spicy soup) options. It comes in a large bowl, you might want to share it with ur partner. I have tried all of the laksa, hainan chicken rice, roasted chicken rice, kung pao chicken, char siew, fried noodle. They are all amazing (and very cheap). Be ready to queue as it is very popular!

All Lakshadweep I’ve tried have been great!! My favourite the chicken one with only vermicelli.
Service has been great, however due to popularity, be prepared to wait to be seated.
This another place to go for when I am broke.
They offer wide range of selection to choose from.
The crispy chicken used to be my fave,
Then the combination laksa, fish fillet noodle, combination rice noodle and so on.. too much of good food to have here.

Service are great even they always very busy.
Recommended to go

The food here is amazing this is the only Malaysian restaurant I will go to in Melbourne. Ingredients are awesome, very tasty and such quick service despite being so busy. Have tried different things and nothing can beat this place honestly a must try

My friend and I ate here last night, I hadn't been before but was excited to try the menu after reading so many great reviews.

The restaurant was sooo busy but we didn't have to wait too long for a table.

A great menu, we started off with the satay roti, satay chicken and curry puffs all were delicious. My friend and I both ordered the vegetarian laska which was full of veggies!! The tofu was also really nice in the laska and the broth rich and creamy. There was a real hit of spice which I loved too , the broth was nice and spicy.

I can see why this place is so popular and will no doubt be back again.

The boys with one of our other colleagues and the girlfriends made a surprising trip down to Flemington for Laksa King on a warm Sunday night.

When we were looking to book a slot for this place, the only available time was 8:15pm. That was in fact, promising - showing how esoteric availabilities are at this place.

Going by the name of this place, we characteristically ordered different variations of the Laksa and were pleasantly surprised.

The food came out very quickly, despite how busy the place was.
And the food was what it has been lauded to be.

Will be back here, despite the track down to Flemington.

Thank you for a good night.

I have been there many times before and I can see the change of host people. The blonde girl doing host is super-friendly and patient why trying to get a table for us. We have to wait roughly 10mins for 7people in such a busy night. It was amazing tho. Food is delicious and we definitely come back !!!

SO DELICIOUS. I cannot speak highly enough of laksa king. The service is speedy and the food is always delicious. Only downside is sometimes you can feel rushed to leave. The servings are huge, especially the laksas!

Always crowded with people and I ordered a spring roll and a seafood laksa. The spring roll was great with the sauce. The laksa was not bad. There were a lot of prawns and fish inside but the taste was a little bit weird for me. Maybe the Malaysia curry is not suitable for me. But overall the food was great. will come back again for the rolls!

Came last Saturday! Ordered 2 big bowls King prawn laksa, 1 portion is normal and the other bowl with no bean sprouts! Plus the entré the spicy soy sauce steam dumplings and pecking duck. The king prawns laksa is a BOOm!!! The king prawns bigger than my fingers!!! So fresh prawns, the dumplings is nice, pecking duck is delicious. But the laksa is number 1, definitely coming back for another king prawns laksa!! nothing can beat laksa in Melbourne! No 1 laksa!!

LOVED this place! It is always super busy and not sure if you can book. I went with two of my friends and we waited only a few minutes to get a table. We ordered the curry puffs and spring rolls and had a laksa each it was to die for! Can’t wait to go back :)

Nice venue with ample seating. We shared 4 dishes between the 4 of us. The kids shared the salted fish and chicken fried rice and that was delicious. Can taste the wok hei and there were heaps of toppings. Char koay teow was a let down. It was just too soggy and a touch on the sweet side which was weird. The only positive was there were heaps of chinese sausage and 4 big prawns. The assam laksa hit the spot as did the ice kachang. One major gripe is that payment is cash only. They also have an atm conveniently located near the cashier but charged $2 for each withdrawal. Payment by card should be an option, it is 2019 after all.

Used to come to Laksa King a lot when I was a student. Came back for a visit last week and it was still super busy like 10 years ago! Had to wait for a table but table turns really quick so you wouldn't have to wait for long.

Drinks are cheap and good! Had the good old milk tea. All of us ordered Laksa of course you are at laksa king! Still amazing as how it was in my memories!

Will be back!!

Very rude staff and poor customer service. It is my first time at this place, got there on a sunday afternoon just before 3pm, were told by the staff that the kitchen is closing in 1 min, so i quickly order a noodle dish, the food arrive pretty quick so i ate for 5 mins and the food ia gone. Food is delicious but then staff come and collect the empty plate right away, and said to me the table is closed for clean up. There were other people still eating around me. I literally just there for 5 mins and being asked to leave. I feel that they just want the money and it is also a cash only venue. I don't recommend to go back again. Very rude staff and poor customer service.

Incredible food! It’s definitely worth the wait if you don’t mind sitting close to other people. It never disappoints! Amazing Vegetarian Curry Laksa and Spring Rolls ☺️

Have been here a lot of times and tried a variety of their dishes and most of them are worth ordering again and tastes simply Yummy!!

Curry Laksa dishes are obviously the most popular and for all the right reasons.. I like my Chicken Curry Laksa here with extra serve of fresh chillies to go with it.. Roti Chanai, Rendang curry, and Nasi Goreng are favourites too..

Teh Tarik (Malaysian Tea) here is right on the money too and I sometimes have two of them..

The place is always busy and infact gets busy (with people ready to enter) even before it opens, luckily the service is lightening fast, hence the wait is never for too long.

Ambiance is good - always buzzing with lot of foodies & hungry souls..

From a tiny shop in an arcade to this bustling, prosperous eatery, they have been consistent in delivering great tasting Malaysian favourites in speedy efficiency.

The big menu caters for the herbivores and carnivores. The Seafood Laksa is so packed with creamy, coconut flavour I just want to devour the entire contents of the bowl, soup and all its delicious noodles and seafood. Still, one must leave room for Chendol, a dessert for those that love their palm sugar syrup and coconut milk. It was so refreshing on a hot day such as this. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her stir fried veges and tofu, commenting on how they've made such a simple dish so tasty.

They're set up to cater for very high turn-over. Staff are trained to rush you to order quickly, promptly clear your almost empty plates and bring the order docket needed for paying with cash without asking, even on a quiet day like this. It's a great place to grab a quick bite in a very casual setting, but definitely one we can't linger at. I'm reluctant to bring my elderly mother who likes to take things at a leisurely pace. Shame as she loves good Malaysian food.
A friendly and bustling environment, serving out the most famous Curry Laksa to hungry costumers. With a high 4.7 rating on Zomato, Laksa King never seems to be empty with a never ending stream of costumers coming in and out on any time.

Ordered:
Curry fish head Laksa: $13.8
Fish head Laksa noodles: $13.5

Review:
Laksa king is probably the King of Laksa. They serve out steaming hot bowls of rich coconut curry Laksa but if you want something similar but a bit lighter than the heavy, traditional coconut broth order the fish head laksa noodles. This noodle dish doesn’t have any coconut milk and is cooked in a pickled cabbage broth, so it’s slightly tangy but is very light in flavour. The fish head contained tender fish meat and fattiness from the skin. The noodles were nice, but it was a bit unbalanced (egg and rice noodles). The coconut one was my favourite, rich and creamy with a kick of spice that slaps you in the face but then settles in when you continue to eat. Its so incredibly delicious, if you aren’t comfortable with eating the fish head another good option would be the tiger prawn curry Laksa!!

I used to live in Malaysia and i miss Malaysia’s food so bad. Whenever i wanted to eat malaysian food, i’ll come here and enjoy the food here. It taste pretty simillar with the one they served in Malaysia. For the price, its affordable and pretty cheap! There are a critics for the payment system. When i ate here, i didnt bring cash. however, they only accept cash payment and i need to withdraw my money. Would be great if they have payment system card :).

Moreover, the environment reminds me of Malaysia. Will come back here again with my friends and introduce them the real Malaysian food.

It is ok, food taste alright but not great, overhyped. The service is amazing(props to the waiters and waitresses that managed the crowd efficiently), long wait times are expected, but does not affect the review score. The restaurant may benefit from taking some items off the extensive menu to focus on making dishes taste better than average. Overall, not a terrible casual dining experience.

Had not been to Laksa King Flemington for around ten years but it is just as good as I remember! The place was jam packed but we were seated quickly next to the front window.
I ordered the chicken laksa which was beautiful. It was a big serve with chicken, noodles, tofu, some eggplant in a thick curry and coconut soup. Absolutely delightful 😀👍
Everyone else in our group of four also thoroughly enjoyed their meals.
Jessica
Fantastic dishes from Curry Laksa to Fish Head Noodle to Five Spice Chicken! Nasi Lemak was just alright. Been back here a few times, giving it a 4 star as I find the quality of Curry Laksa has been deteriorating each time I visit again.

We went there around 5.30pm and we didnt have to wait in the line. But after 6 there was a long line. We ordered Curry Laksa Chicken, and it was good! Very hot, very chilli! By the way you can only pay by cash.

I have wanted to try this place for so long and finally had an opportunity to go for a Saturday lunch.
The place was buzzing and busy packed with customers. Had to wait about 15 minutes to find a table. We were given menus and water fairly promptly and our order came within 12 minutes . Very efficient. We both went for the chicken laksa.
Good size bowls of steaming noodles, chicken and tasty broth with the perfect amount of heat . I now see what all the fuss is all about. Not the best I have had but very good.
The only gripe I had with our experience was the roti and satay sauce dish my partner ordered.
The peanuts in the sauce were rancid which made it unpleasant to eat. Apart from that it was good.
Recommend

Laksa King
6-12 Pin Oak Crescent, Flemington, Melbourne

One word to describe Laksa King, Solid. If you’re after delicious laksa or Chinese/Malaysian food then this is the place to go.

The menu is expansive, there are many types of Laksa to choose form. The portions are generous. Laksa is mandatory, the chicken rice is pretty good as well. We’ve tried other menu items however the laksa and chicken rice always comes up trump.

If you’re after a quick easy delicious meal then Laksa King will deliver on that. It is always busy and they are moving people in and out. I wouldn’t come here for the service or if you’re wanting to relax after a meal to take your time to get to know the other person.

Overall 4/5

#food #foodbeast #feast #eatingfortheinsta #foodporn #foodgasm #foodie #melbournefoodie #melbournefood #onthetable #tastingtable #eater #fatty #foodblog #buzzfeedfood #zomatoaus #foodblogfeed #instafoodie #instagood #yummy #cheatday #goodeats #2bytwoadventures #laksaking #laksa #malaysian #chinese

We had the Hainanese Chicken rice & noodle soup takeaway. They are all great, very authentic Malay taste. Very considerate that they put the noodles & soup separately. Love the flavour if the chicken rice.
