Food was excellent as was the service! We shared 5 dishes and really couldn't fault any of them. Was hard to pick which one was best. The cream foam on the scollops was to die for!! Thank you

I haven't had an experience as enjoyable as this in a long time. The relaxed atmosphere radiates through the venue, the food not over complicated, however still interesting. Like mixing an element of familiar and homely with new and curious. And the wine list. Just brilliant. Big enough to inspire, small enough to not be intimidating. Wines from all around the world, with enough from home to make it approachable for the inexperienced and to keep the adventurous interested. Well done guys!

201908 long have we eaten next door at Tip00, finally we made it to Osteria Ilaria. The wine list you see at the end is e x t e n s i v e but the dine dishes are šŸ‘ŒšŸ½ Bar staff are friendly if you'd like front row assistance to choose each drink as you go. Line up outside these popular places and which ever one you end up in, you won't be disappointed

First night out post ISO. Felt surreal with minimal tables and reading full wine lists off your smartphone to reduce contamination. All dishes were presented beautifully. But thatā€™s where it stopped. There were no real stand out dishes unfortunately. Service was friendly and knowledgeable.

In general a good place to go our for decent dinner. Good value of food and would be plenty if you order chef selection
Service is ok but not so very warm... might be their restaurant culture ??
Good experience but wouldnā€™t be no.1 choice to also go back and revisit

Recommended by friends and this is a busy place with a good vibe. Food was good from the open kitchen with an interesting but a reasonably limited menu with some additional specials. We enjoyed a mixture of starters such as Puccini mushroom croquettes, Zucchini flowers and house cured pork belly piadina. Nicely served and great flavours. Main courses were Lamb backstrap, Pacheri pasta with prawns, baby red snapper and a special pasta of the day. Dessert was also a delicious Peach orange meringue with aperol granita. All very good and enjoyed by all. We also drank a very nice Pinot Grigio from the Mornington peninsula. Overall a good experience and service was good albeit attitudinally not to everyoneā€™s liking. Would recommend if you are in Melbourne.

We six morphed into the quiet back room, duff, duff free. We all selected the two course $40 menu. Flexibility was permitted, anchovy sauce was replaced with basil and two entreeā€™s were permitted. Wine by the glass provided a plethora of fine drops and we all enjoyed the food. The crew were the best.

A beautiful restaurant that I wouldnā€™t hesitate to visit again. We ordered the Chefā€™s selection, all the dishes were perfection and it was just the right amount of food for us. The wine list is extensive and the staff are very knowledgeable if you need help. Service is fantastic and staff are really friendly. Canā€™t wait to visit again soon.

As soon as you step into Osteria Ilaria, you know youā€™re in for an amazing treat - rustic and no frills decor, open kitchen; short no-nonsense menu with a great wine list; attentive staff; and most importantly, one of the best Italian degustation ever. My favourites were:
- mushroom croquettes (melt in your mouth, an absolute must try!)
- paccheri (sheets) pasta w crystal bay prawns
- spaghetti w sea urchin and pippies
- wagyu 7+ strip loin (7+ grade, nuff said)

Pasta quality was good though erring on the slightly salty side towards the end. Scallops were light on flavour but still nice. The staff saw that one of our dishes was taking a while to come out (though we didn't feel like it was too long and didn't ask them about it), they kindly gave us a side dish (roasted brocolli) for free! This was such a nice surprise and honestly I would recommend that dish as it was so (surprisingly) good! Overall a good place to go for some decent quality pasta, relaxed/casual astmosphere.

Second visit to illaria and the food is once again amazingļ¼we ordered the croquettes, scallops, octopus, prawn pasta, spaghetti, lamb and gnocchi. Loved the croquettes, great texture and delicious filling. The scallops had an interesting herby flavour a little too green for my liking. Loved the chargrilled octopus with a spicy anchovy sauce (highly recommend!). I had the prawn pasta and it was so tasty, generous with the prawns and pasta cooked to perfection. The lamb was cooked so well, very tender and tasty. Overall a great meal with perfectly paired drinks recommended by our waiter.

We tried to get in at Tipo 00 with no bookin g for lunch. The lovely waitress said that a table will be in half an hour. To which we declined and she suggested to go next door as it is owned by the same people. Thanks for the suggestion. The setting is here is less hectic and more spacious. We took up our possi in a high table with stools which were comfortable. Important.

With courses for $40 extra $10 for third course. First came a little gold nugget of crispy sourdough each with some lush butter on the side. The choices were varied of 4 per course. We both had the cattle fish with squid ink sauce. Which had very complementary layers of taste and interesting textures with a layer of seaweed into the mix. The main was as satisfying of beef cheek ( tender and tasty) with beef tongue ( like bacon in thin strips) on some fluffy fluffy mash and shallots. Very nice thank you!!

We are spoilt for choice in this city. A restaurant has to be good to survive, and as diners we are as discerning as any metropolis. Word-of-mouth is key. Osteria Ilaria was recommended to me for the crave-worthy cabbage that finished on the menu the week before I finally got to try this place. But with a new menu and an extensive wine list, we were still tempted.

Dinner for two.

We ordered:
ā€¢ mushroom croquettes
ā€¢ swordfish
ā€¢ scallops
ā€¢ octopus
ā€¢ pasterri pasta

We had to cancel our last dish, which was the gnocchi because we were so full from what we had ordered already - waiter was very nice about it. Mushroom croquettes was my favourite dish, it was so creamy, not too salty and not oily at all.
I would come back and try all the other dishes!!

Went on a friendā€™s birthday. We had Sydney rock oysters, zucchini flower and mushroom croquette to started off, mushroom croquette is a star almost ordered 2 more but my friend reminded me that we still have 5 more dishes coming. Bummer :( arite! Next we had swordfish crudo, char grilled baby octopus served with spicy nā€™duja and Abrolhos scallops. They were all amazing, we were so much in love with all dishes! Our sher wagyu rump cap was perfectly cooked. My friend just had gnocchi for the 1st time and she gave it a thumbs up. I would rate 10/10 and definitely be back. Suggest that booking is essential if you want to make sure that you will have a spot. They are very busy especially dinner time.

Only minor comment is if your seated near the kitchen, and if theyā€™re cooking fish, youā€™ll know it.

We visited Osteria Ilaria for a late lunch without a booking and we were seated upon arrival. Being the sister restaurant of Tipo 00, we had high hopes for this place, and it did not disappoint!

The venue is spacious, and the tables are quite large too. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant, which was a little more private and had a nice romantic ambience.

Our waiter was extremely kind and walked us through the whole menu, explaining each dish and giving us recommendations.

We started off with the complimentary bread and butter. The bread was fluffy and the butter was incredibly soft. I only wish there was more of it!

Our first dish was the Porcini Mushroom Croquette, and it was delicious. It was crispy, creamy and flavourful. The mushroom flavour was there but it wasnā€™t too strong as one of us, who usually hates mushrooms, really enjoyed it.

We had one Zucchini Flower to share between the three of us as we didnā€™t want to fill up too quickly. The zucchini flower was light and crispy, whilst the inside was creamy and thick. A nice dish but not as wow-ed by it as some of the other dishes.

Next was the Burrata, as recommended by our waiter. I loved this dish - the pickled quince was sour and refreshing, and combined beautifully with the creaminess of the burrata.

Our last starter was the Octopus. Another very impressive dish - the octopus was cooked very well with a nice char. I liked the spiciness of the sauce which worked well with the octopus.

After a great start to the meal, we were on to our pastas.

We had to try the Paccheri Pasta - the dish that they are known for - and it did not disappoint! The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and the shape of it was very unique too. I loved the flavours of the sauce and the crystal bay prawns were lovely.

We also had the Saffron Gramigna, which, although being our least favourite of the three pastas we tried, it was still very enjoyable. The dish was heavier, though I liked the textures from the duck sausage and artichoke.

But our favourite pasta was their special of the night - Truffle Tagliatelle. The truffle sauce was just so incredibly flavourful and delicious - I could eat two bowls of this! Honestly, you donā€™t want to miss out on this dish.

As the portions of our mains were quite small, we still had room for dessert, so we decided to go for all three of them.

The Chocolate Semifreddo surprised me with its lightness - the texture was unlike anything Iā€™ve had before. The chocolate is more on the bitter side, so the overall dish isnā€™t that sweet either. A very pleasant dessert!

The Juniper Meringue was also very light, and the sweetest dessert. Although I enjoyed the texture of the meringue, Iā€™m not quite sure how I felt about the juniper as it had a strange taste.

Finally, my favourite dessert was the Rhubarb and Custard - the tartness of the rhubarb paired with the sweet and creamy custard was just divine!

Overall, we had an incredible time at Osteria Ilaria. I would definitely recommend checking them out!

Been here twice, sat at the bar during dinner had amazing bar service and decided to go back for another visit. However, the second time was seated at a table and compared to my first experience the service just did not deliver. The food did make up for the lack of service and was delicious on both occasions.

I really enjoyed my meal at this restaurant. The ambience is lovely and the service is fantastic.

We had the mushroom croquettes to start, which were a touch on the salty side. The octopus with Nā€™duja and anchovies however, was delicious and very well balanced.

For mains, we had the paccheri pasta with crystal bay prawns. This was very flavoursome and the prawn was not too overpowering. Highly recommend!!

We had an amazing time at Osteria - the staff were super friendly and the food was really good. I thought the flavours in their dishes really stayed true to the ingredient and concentrated on bringing all the flavour already in the food out. Some of the dishes balanced the natural flavours really delicately, and I really like that. Hurray for a wonderful night out.

The staff here were really friendly. We enjoyed the gnocchi and duck here. The sauce in the gnocchi was pleasantly light. The duck was extra juicy.

We disliked šŸ˜–
The paprika sauce on the calamari was great but the calamari itself was a little too chewy.

Nice cosy setting and just the start. Staff are exactly what you expect in such an upmarket dine in restaurant.Ā

The food.. where do i start, we tried the grilled octopus absolutely A+.Ā
We also shared the salumi and it was the BEST prosciutto I've ever tasted. We also had the mushroom croquette and pork sausage which were both also exceptionally delicious.

For mains we tried both the saffron gramigna duck sausage and the prawn pasta. Texture of the saffron was amazing.Ā

But nothing else compares to the prawn pasta sauce, flavour was complex and absolutely one of the best pasta sauces I've tasted.

Hands down one of the best Italian restaurants in CBD (if not the whole Melbourne lol) everything we had was so so so delicious. The pasta was cooked to perfection, sauces were unbelievably good, entrees were served in timely manner and such generous portions (and again so damn tasty!)

Iā€™m used to having only a few bites on a serve in ā€˜fancyā€™ places but we had good amount of food for each dishes and was so satisfied with everything at the end.

The stand outs for me were the croquettes, calamari, octopus and ALL of the pastas (we had 3 different ones and I canā€™t remember what we had hah!)

This place is worth the dollars you throw at them.

+ Pine Mushroom Gnocchi

Came here for a bite of lunch with some work colleagues and was super impressed with the dishes on offer. I had the pine mushroom gnocchi and it was delightful (tasty, velvety and fluffy). Service was exceptional. Prices above average and certainly approaching fine dining (but worth the price you pay). A great option for a business lunch for sure.

We rocked up early without a reservation (just before 6pm), sure enough the restaurant was at full capacity shortly after. The space is much more larger than Tipo 00 and seats are easier to acquire. It also boasts a wide open kitchen so grabbing seating next to the cooking station or even at the bar wouldn't be entirely bad.

We started off with their Negroni Oscuri (their house Negroni cocktail) which was a killer cocktail, you get a whiff of basil every time you take a sip. I moved onto their Ilaria Grande later that night which had a strong sweet orange flavour.

They complimented us with some olive bread and butter, would have preferred the entire roll to smother that beautiful soft butter all over, it was really smooth. We got a porcini mushroom croquette each served with some aioli, perfectly crisp and the interior was creamy mushroom, delightful and not overpowering.

The surprise dish was their burrata with pickled quince and bitter leaves. Whilst the cheese was mild in flavour it was wonderfully milky and slightly stringy. It was a great combination which highlighted the freshness of the burrata. The kingfish with persimmon and salted radish was another great dish, the persimmon was slightly sweet and did not detract from the quality of the fish.Ā

At this point there was a bit of delay with our next dish, my guess is that they're at full capacity and absolutely swamped in the kitchen (I made the enquiry just to make sure). Shortly after our final starter dish came, it was octopus with an n'dujo (speck) and anchovy sauce. This combination gave off a similar flavour profile to a spicy chorizo. The octopus was nicely charred and a bit muscular, not the softest but I enjoy a good chew.

The first of our pasta dishes arrive and it was my favourite dish of the night. It was paccheri pasta (almost like sheets) with a rich sorrel, tomato and (from what I'm told) scampi sauce topped with pieces of crystal bay prawns. Not sure if they did actually utilise two types of crustacean in this dish but the sauce was to die for and if no one was watching, I'd lick the plate clean. The pasta on the other hand was perfectly cooked and al dente.

Our table was cleared and our waiter actually thought that was it. There was yet another delay with our order and our waiter went to check with the kitchen. Ideally you'd want all your main dishes out at the same time (we chose not to get any main meat dishes and stuck with pasta) but we didn't mind as much as the food so far was stellar and it gave us a bit of breathing room in between dishes. The gramigna pasta was good but did not quite live up to the highs of the previous dish. Perfectly cooked and packed some bite, paired with duck sausage and artichoke. We did not expect our side of potatoes to come in a singular form which looked like a Japanese nasu dengaku (miso glazed eggplant). A great side which was slightly burnt on the surface and sat on top of a creamy fontina cheese sauce.

Finishing up we got a trio of desserts (all of them). Their deconstructed cheesecake consisted of goats curd (cheesecake) with passion fruit and toffee biscuit. Solid dessert. The juniper meringue with white chocolate cream and desert lime is reminiscent of a pavlova, crumbly and sweet. Lastly the chocolate semifreddo with citrius cream and olive oil was a weird combination but not the first time I've had chocolate and olive oil together. When done right it can be delicious but I found that the saltiness was too dominant.

Despite the food not coming out in sequence it could be forgiven, dish after dish left a positive impression on me. Ultimately they rectified the situation before it became an issue. Some of the best Italian/modern Italian food I've had within Australia, so much so it has just given me unrealistic expectations for Tipo 00.

Been wanting to go here for ages. Caught up with a friend for a mid week lunch. I had the express set menu (octopus entre and osso bucco for $40) my friend had a la carte (fried zucchini flower, cacao gnocchi and goat curd cheese cake for $46) and we both had a coffee each.

Service was prompt and polite. Flavours were unique, shout out to the the sauce accompanying the octopus, the weirdly delicious choco-nut aroma with the gnocchi and a fall off the bone meat in the osso bucci. Only downside is that we shouldve ordered a vegetable side to balance the protein but we were too full also that the cheesecake was to goat cheese tasting, but that should've been expected.

To try:
Honestly everything!! We were lucky enough to come during the first week of their new menu and I am so glad we did.
- fresh warm bread with butter. I could probably live off fresh bread and butter, here it's warm, fluffy with earthy flavours and amazing butter
- porcini mushroom croquettes, don't skip these, there's a reason why you see so many of them leaving the kitchen
- kingfish crudo with avocado, subtle and very well treated
- beef carpaccio, quite different to the ones we have previously tried. They have walnuts which have been pickled, fried and then dried and it adds something truly special to the dish
- pork sausage with braised fennel & polenta crisp, I usually get sick of polenta very quickly but the crisp is a perfect portion done well, the fennel was so sweet and caramelized and pork sausage quite chunky and not over-processed
- paccheri pasta with prawns, an Osteria classic
- buffalo mozzarella with plum, we actually got this as a side to our pasta (this > salad, for sure) and it was surprisingly so fresh & light whilst being everything you love about buffalo mozzarella?!
- maccheroni pasta with beef neck and panko crumbs, a true rich indulgent pasta dish, you won't be disappointed

To skip:
- there honestly wasn't a dish that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Although Osteria does take online bookings (Tipo00, please implement!), it's a great area to put your name down on a waiting list and grab a drink nearby for 30mins or so.

We sat at the bar and were mesmerised watching the chef's work their magic. Big thanks to Jack from London who made sure we had the best seat in the house to accompany a great food night!

Since there was a big group of us, we decided to choose the chef selection menu. The dishes were well presented and was very tasty. Out of all the dishes, I enjoyed the mushroom croquette and the paccheri pasta with prawns the most. As with most set menus, I always have trouble getting through the whole course and was struggling to finish everything on my plate towards the end.

Wish Iā€™d written this one up when I went so I could remember all of the dishes! As a girlā€™s dinner out we booked in to this cosy Italian eatery near Hardware Lane on a weeknight. It was buzzing and a booking was essential even on a Winterā€™s Thursday night.

It was delicious and each dish cooked to perfection (I even managed pork which Iā€™m not wild about) but my only criticism was that I found it on the salty side. Thoroughly enjoyable evening out!!!

Finally made it to the Osteria, the italian place on lt bourke street.Ā

We came on a monday night just after 6 so it wasn't too busy. Ordered a glass of Pinot Noir to start with and later on realised its quite expensive ($140 a bottle). Always read the wine list before you order! Don't get me wrong the wine was super nice I just wasn't quite ready to pay that much. Waitress was really lovely they gave us half a bottle so we can order another half bottle of cheaper wine.Ā

For food we ordered, mushroom croquette, squid, prawn pasta, duck sausage, pork and some broccoli on the side. They were all quite yummy especially the croquettes and the pasta. Ordered a bit too much tho that we didnt finish everything and didnt have enough room for dessert.Ā

Definitely worth a try!

Iā€™ve heard good things about Osteria ilaria and was very excited to try it out. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. I wanted to order the whole menu! The menu has a good variety of flavours and they keep it interesting with special menus. My favourite dish was the trout. It was soft, tender and fresh. Every dish was executed beautifully. The staff and atmosphere was lovely. I would come back to try the rest of the menu

Love Osteria Ilaria! Highly recommend coming to this restaurant with a few friends! Amazing vibes and such a great view from the bar to watch the chefs plate up. My absolute favourite was the truffle tortellini! Absolutely delicious šŸ˜

Another iconic Italian restaurant in Melbourne.

As expected, the service was great. Very attentive.

All the dishes looked beautiful. Mozzarella were very fresh and tasted really gentle. My highlight will have to be the main meat dish and prawn pasta.

I dont know id it was memorable to me. Maybe it's not completely my pallete. But all dishes were good.

Beautiful cozy place for a late Sunday lunch. 4.5 stars is the rating I would give this place if it was possible. Only let down was the tables are too close to each other, your conversations would be easily disturbed if guests sitting at next table are loud. The buffalo mozzarellaĀ  with beetroot sauce was light and smooth, I am not a huge fan of mozzarella but absolutely loved this. Globe artichoke with eggplant was of great flavours however the artichoke was a bit on the mushy side. I would prefer they were cooked a bit less. Ricotta gnocchi was beautiful. The sauce was rich and full of flavours. Ricotta was so light and fluffy. Brussel sprouts wereĀ  nicely cooked. Soft enough yet still crunchy, soaked in the flavours yet keeping the bitterness. Service was attentive.

Osteria Ilaria is serving up delicious modern Italian food and like their first restaurant Tipo 00 (which is next door), people are lining up for this exceptional Italian food. The great thing is that you can make a booking (which is a sigh of relief) and itā€™s a bigger space. They have a lovely wine menu and source beverages from around the world. There are less pasta dishes on the menu than Tipo 00 but in saying that they still have some impressive pasta dishes. They also have a variety of cheeses, charcuterie and breads. They put quality and care into the food that they produce, and you can taste it.

Fantastic restaurant. It was our first time here trying their chef selection menu. The quality of pasta is great and the sauce is rich with layers of flavors. We were really impressed by their dessert. The chef brilliantly blended olive flavor gelato (which we never imagined would be delicious) with chocolate brownie. The savory yet sweet combination is not only a visual treat but a great highlight to finish the feast with. We will definitely come back again.

This was such a good find by one of my friends and I am really glad I got to experience the food and wine here. Osteria Ilaria is not a super expensive restaurant but it definitely can be if you want it to be. It is this sort of juxtaposition that really sets me up to love a restaurant. It is located in the CBD so super easy to get to, the interior is well decorated and quite intimate, but they have done a great job at making a small space feel big. The food was obviously the highlight of the night. I liked that all the food was pretty normal things you could find but with the addition of a couple of special flares. The drinks were also good and the pouring size was generous. We were served by a lovely person who had a bit of a chat with us about politics and was very bubbly. I did not get their name to write it in here but they really added to the night. I certainly want to go back to Osteria Ilaria, maybe with a bigger group on a Friday or Saturday. Maybe for a lowkey dinner after work during the week, who knows. I would like to add that I religiously avoid dishes with duck in them, but I had the duck pasta as it was ordered by the table and it was beyond delicious. So if it is there when you go, I would be ordering that. 5/5

First time visited Melbourne, so many places to choose from. Decided to try this place out after reading the reviews. Definitely didn't disappoint. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout the course of dinner. The food were great and so were the drinks. If your looking for a place to try something different but still traditional this place hit the spot.

First time at this restaurant and everything was perfect. The experience partnered with the food and drinks was just amazing. Ask for their specials as itā€™s not on the menu. Would definitely come back again. The mushroom croquettes are a must try.

Honestly a 4.5/5 for me, but it was a great experience and Iā€™m happy to round up! Food was great, almost excellent, with standouts being the Murray Cod, mushroom croquette (itā€™s like mushroom soup in a fried fritter) and the tuna tartare. All 3 were unique and very flavourful. Great for what they are. Also tried out the Duck Ragout - however tasted a tad plain and flavourless. Portion sizes are good though! The only thing is that I ordered everything that interested me from the menu, so itā€™d probably be a very very long time before I come back to visit again

Food was so good and we loved the open kitchen. We also had some cocktails which were all yum. Our table was near a speaker so it was a bit loud and we couldn't hear each other talk very well and service was alright.

Words cannot describe. 1000/10. This place is beyond divine. Best meal in Melbourne. Of course do the chefs selection, 10 dishes over 2 hours. Dishes comes out excellently spaced. Friendly staff. Excellent drinks list. Delicious cocktails. Will be dreaming of the spaghetti and king George whiting dish. Thank you!!!
