Review The Quarter - Melbourne

MapleLeaf Aussie
Breakfast at The Quarter was sensational. The tea and coffee were both very good and the food was delicious, well-presented, freshly cooked and exactly as ordered. It was refreshing to see a breakfast menu with some not-so-usual choices on it, such as the Waffle Croque Madame. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The quirky decor was interesting and stimulated some good conversation over breakfast.

I just finished my meal at The Quarter. Folks, let me tell you this - what an amazing meal experience. The ambiance of Degraves St, wait staff who don't rush you, food which looks absolutely divine. I had the veggie burger, and was surprised with the zucchini chips. The burger itself was very nice, but lacked the promised spice. I put that down to me training myself to eat spicier foods though. We weren't rushed out to leave, although the venue was closing, but as we were walking out the door, my mother's mask broke. I asked one of the amazing waiters if they could direct me to a store where I could get a mask and they offered one of their own. Service beyond and above expectations. Really grateful to have had such a lovely experience, especially as tonight we celebrated my mother's 72nd birthday. I can only show you my meal, but I can assure you - it was all divine - everyone's plates around me looked just delicious. Can definitely recommend this venue if you're looking for a special night out.

Arrived close to closing after an event, we were happily seated. Superb food, beef risotto was magnificent and the barramundi was cooked to perfection. Can’t wait to return. Staff were lovely and more than willing to help.

Absolutely amazing food and good coffee, the pork burger was perfect, juicy and had nice crunchy coleslaw. The eggs Benny was so flavourful and the eggs were poached perfectly. I would recommend

Holidaying from Darwin and came across this busy little place! Couldn't believe we scored a table to be honest as it was out of control busy, people lined up out the door. The busyness did not stop the great service, friendly staff, delicious breakfast and great coffee, so if you are in Melbourne definitely give this one a go!

Photo courtesy of my mum! Some really great basics here and some with a little bit of flair. I had the fritters, and wow were they good. Service was super friendly, and the cafe is perfectly positioned for people watching, either inside or outside :)

I came to here with my friends for brekkie. The customer service was good, so I gave it 3 stars . I ordered chilli scrambled egg with croissant and soy mocha. The coffee was fine, but the problem was the meal! I tried many chilli scrambled egg at different places, however… this one was the one I couldn’t finish, because all you could taste… just spicy ! You can’t taste any other thing… even salty… you can’t ! TBH, it’s the worst chilli scrambled egg I had ever!

yummy!!! such a cute cafe space. food and coffee were so good! presentation of the food was great. definitely recommend the chilli eggs

Wow, what a meal. Best lamb I have tasted in a very long time. Had the quarter platter and some pork belly bites. Superb is an understatement. Great quirky atmosphere and awesome staff. If noone were watching I would have licked my plate...

Staff: waited patiently while the two staff had a casual conversation at the "wait here to be seated" sign, only stopped ignoring us when the manager had a go at them. Food: if duck is on the menu then it's duck I have. In this case it was the duck risotto special. My partner had the chicken and chorizo risotto. Was exactly the same risotto base with different meats tossed in. It was watery and pretty tasteless. Also had corn in it?? Weird. Setting: nice, spoilt by the proceeding.

Fantastic, sharing plate for two was unbelievable, a taste sensation, would highly recommend it, one minor whinge, cider on tap a little dissapointing!!!

Great little place in laneway..had a lovely shared plate of meat and fish ..just enough for 2 people ..great service too

The Quarter on Degraves Street deserves a quarter billion dollars! Other than its fantastic location, the food is amazing! The staff are extremely friendly and cleanliness is superb!

We first came here for brunch and got the big breakfast and baked eggs with coffee. The eggs are perfectly poached, and the red sauce in the baked eggs is expressive in flavor and perfectly balances the dish. We fell in love with this place as the location is vibing! Sitting in the middle of the cool breezy back alleys of Melbourne having brunch, drinking coffee, having meaningful conversations and enjoying the busyness and crowds. We wanted more! It felt like were in a movie!

We decided to come back for lunch and it was even better! We got the pasta which was cooked perfectly, the lamb and potato puree which was succulent! The burger also had a perfectly cooked and juicy patty complimented with great flavors.
Wow we have had an unforgettable food experience and we want more! It's not everyday that you feel like you are in a movie. Highly recommend this place.

We popped into the quarter for a family dinner and it was really good. Our table ordered pizzas, salads, pasta and steak and everything was delicious. Pizzas were light and crispy, the pasta was a generous portion packed with flavour, salads were fresh and tasty and the steak was cooked well. Great lane way restaurant with a buzzing atmosphere.

We came across this place whilst looking for breakfast. It was very busy but they clear the tables quickly so we were seated within minutes. Breakfast was reasonably priced and good. It took a while to come but that was fine as we soaked up the atmosphere of the lanes. We went back the next day to try something else from the menu.

Loved this place. Decently priced alcohol, street cafe feel. Great pizza, great flavor. They even have tap beer. And oh the pizza is gluten free which not too many places on Degraves seem to have.👏👏👏

Really lovely cafe, in the heart of Melbourne.
The food was really nice, except some of the lettuce in my sandwich was wilted and off colour.
I took it out of the sandwich and left it on the side of the plate.
My partners only complaint, was the coffee wasn’t hot enough and when he told the waitress, she said oh yes, a lot of people say the same thing.

This honestly needs to be addressed in house.

I’m happy to give this place another go and I may give a higher rating then.

I stumbled across this laneway gem through EatClub's $5 feast week. Despite the deal technically being for takeaway, the lovely waitress gave me a table. I ordered the Reuben Sandwich, which was served quickly yet made carefully. The rye was toasted to perfection, and the pickles, sauerkraut and Russian Dressing perfectly complimented the delicate layers of corned beef. The steak chips were, thick, crispy and nicely battered – perhaps needing a tad more salt, however.

The café's decor and open window design were unique and inviting. I will definitely be back!

A friend and I had a pre dinner drink, we were lucky enough to visit when it was Happy Hour - Happy Days!

The restaurant is nice and quaint, the staff went above and beyond to wait on us. My friend and I enjoyed our wine and I would happily come back for a visit.

My boyfriend and I had brunch on Friday at The Quarter while visiting Melbourne. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food and coffee was great! We ordered two lattes, the granola and the smashed avocado on toast with halumi fries and a side of chips. There was a little bit of a wait on food but the cafe was busy, so expected. The food was great and couldn’t be faulted!
Dejan
One of my favorite places to visit when in Melbourne. Coffee was ok, but the breakfast! My god.. The best pork crackle I’ve ever had. Get the Quarter Bennie if you love your eggs benny and are a fan of pork. This cafe is truly Melbourne
Gee
I had the prawn and scallop pizza. It was ok but one side was far more cooked than the other side. The seafood was frozen (as to be expected), and the topping wasn’t distributed evenly. This isn’t an area I’d normally come to eat, but there was a deal on EatClub and I thought I’d check it out. Probably wouldn’t return but the staff were nice.
Mel
Awful coffee - they reused the coffee powder for my takeaway coffee which made my coffee completely tasteless!
Koji Sota
Unprofessional staff. Server was drinking while on the job. Didn’t take notes of the order and forgot to punch in some of the orders. If we did not follow up the order, we wouldn’t have even known that it was not put in. Disappointing.

Good environment good service but with very bad food.
We ordered two dishes. One is okay the other one was horrible. The worst brunch I had in my life. One piece of very dry omelette, which they said it used 3 eggs but I promise i can make better than them a lot,and one over BBQ stick it cost me 20 dollars for this unappetizing dish!! Worst than a McDonald's cheese burger
So disappointed!Don't know why they have good rate on Google and zomato!

This is a nice cozy cafe in Degraves Street in Melbourne. It is quite a small cafe and a little bit cramped and easy to bump into other people or be in the way. We came for morning tea and enjoyed our drinks and muffin. The customer service was fine and water was provided to us at the table. I had a chai latte, extra hot and I was pleased that it was sufficiently extra hot, as many places don't seem to be able to achieve that. There was only one kind of muffin to choose from and it was carrot and walnut muffin. Butter was given to us for spreading on the muffin too.

Vibe, atmosphere +++
Big Brekky is excellent
Fantastic find in a crowded field
Very chilled out place to come for a bit of breakfast before work and right in the heart of Degraves St

The food is amazing, very convenient from flinder street station, this is my go to restaurant on degraves. I would highly recommend visiting for their lunch and dinner menu.

We discovered this little gem in Degraves Street - must have walked past it hundreds of times! It has a cosy interior dining room plus you can sit out on the street. The staff are really friendly and the menu is amazing, plus a great range of wine and cocktails. We had a selection of dishes and everything was authentic and delicious. The portions are really generous - go hungry!
Holls_13
Had breakfast here, presentation of food was great, coffee was good but the food was very underwhelming. I ordered the porridge and am almost certain it’s the instant oats they used, the scrambled eggs were also overcooked. Quite disappointing.

Located in the busy Degraves street, this establishment is probably among the cosier if not the cosiest among others in the surroundings. Nice interior that immediately appealed to my sight while browsing for a place to dine in in the area. I had the opportunity to try their Seafood Linguini with napoli sauce (tomato based sauce) and also their Pork Belly.

Seafood Linguini - delicious combination of prawns, calamari and clams and mussels along with perfectly cooked linguini. Seafood were fresh, especially loved the calamari (so tender!) and the prawns. The sauce had a nice consistency, balanced flavours and acidity. Tasty and delicious in my book. I hope they keep this standard at all times, because I could really be a regular here because it is not too far from work :) Generous serving of good seafood, not those tiny and frozen bought stuff.

Pork Belly - A generous size of perfectly cooked pork belly. The crackling was crispy as they should, nicely seasoned (not too salty not bland). It was not burnt either, perfect. It came with a big chunk of sticky, marmalade like jam on the crackling. I would have preferred this to be served on the side or at least not right on the crackling that may make it no longer crackling or not as crispy later on. But hey, it is just my personal preference ;) I get the idea though. The pork belly was served with mashed potato underneath. It has a pickled mustard / pickled artichoke which I think is a great idea to balance out with the richness of the pork and the sweetness from the jam.

Overall a pleasant dining experience here. Staff were friendly.
Waiting time for the pork belly was around 20 minutes. Not ideal for a week day lunch break, but if you have the time, the taste is worth the wait.

Will definitely return :)

This place has wonderful ambience. Located in the middle of degraves street, the area is hustling and bustling. The menu is diverse, thorough brunch and cafe style options, along with pastas, pizzas and pub food. I ordered the veggie burger with shoe fries which stars seared mushrooms and haloumi. The size of the burger and fries did not match up to the price. The burger was small and light. It definitely did not feel worth a $20 spend. I also ordered the pumpkin, onion and potato soup which was more suited to the price at $10. Taste-wise, both meals were yum.

Came here for my birthday and ordered the lamb special. Lamb special was very tasty but I love my meat and the lamb portion was small. We also ordered the linguine pasta that was also nice and again meat portion was not substantial. It is a bit pricey but taste is nice , staff are friendly and of course you are overlooking the popular degrade lane.

Had lunch here today and it was delicious!!! The prawn & Scallop pizza was amazing!! It looked busy but we got a table easy enough & the service was fantastic. Coffee was smooth too. (Warning: Saturday surcharge of 10%)

We came for breakfast on Sunday morning and sat outside with the rest of the many diners on Degraves St. Breakfast was good, nothing special.. Service was good as was the coffee.

Not sure if it's fair for me to review this place as I just had a coffee. Nevertheless their mocha was alright though I've had better ones elsewhere. Hope more attention is given to their food!
Amara
This really isn't an AMAZING place but they do serve satisfying and nice food. I shared the bruschetta which had olives, tomato, feta and a nice balsamic glaze. It was delish but was really just your average bruschetta.

For my main, I ordered the vegetarian pizza. This was nice but lacked seasoning (salt in particular). The dough however was cooked very well and had a lovely crust at the end.

Everyone else said their meals were good but the pastas were quite rich and thick. Overall a nice place for decent food.
Jim Calamari
The food was okay but the manager at the restaurant made us feel very uncomfortable, he was very abrupt, was yelling at people on the phone and didn't make us feel very welcome. Hopefully he was just having a bad day and isn't like this for all his customers.

Very productive restaurant with high quality food. Good for gathering with small group of friends. Crowded but not too noisy, nice atmosphere.

Excellent location and great food. Fantastic service by the owner. Highly recommend this restaurant. Would go again and again. Right in the beating heart of Melbourne City and amongst all the action of the cafe set.
Not too big, not too small but a nice and cosy brunch spot in the middle of Degraves Street. Coffee was amazing. Food was pretty decent but the price is very reasonable. We ordered the daily special crumble eggs and poached eggs. Both are nice and fulfilling. Will definitely come back to try other meals!!!
3.7.

Quick pre drinks catch up drink. This is a nice place off busling Degraves St. Pure Melbourne. Good space inside. Feels good. I was quickly and politely attended to, a welcome drink brought before me in a thrice. Only issue I could see was that the spirits options were a tad limited. Didn’t try any food but on what I could spy on other tables I’d like to try some at some point. A place to return to.

Quince And Cheese
Was working at City Library when my bf suggested we meet at this cafe. I usually overlook places on busy Degraves, but this was such a find. We split a baguette (pumpkin, haloumi, pesto) and a pint of Pilsner and pretended we were in Europe. The price, the vibe and the fresh flavours suit.

The Quarter is one of the numerous cafes along Degraves Street that seem to blend into each other. I snagged a seat at the counter facing the large windows which was a great spot for people-watching. Decided on the Get Smashed, a tasty combination of avo toast with feta, smoked salmon, poached eggs and dukkah. Service was friendly and I was able to get some work done during the lull between breakfast and lunch. Downsides are the coffee which tasted like burnt milk and the "no swapsies" policy (i asked to change halloumi to mushrooms on another dish, but was told no, the mushrooms would be extra cost). Overall a nice spot in the heart of the city with good food at decent prices.

A fantastic spot in degraves street. It's got quite a unique character to this place, especially given where it is. It's an unexpected escape with a great feel and good background music that is good but quiet.

The food is very delicious and coffee is as you would expect in Melbourne. So you won't be disappointed here.

Great service and food. Nice ambience. Kid friendly. Love the seafood linguini. Must try. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for nice Italian food around the area. :)

Went with two friends for breakfast on Sunday and it was crazy and hectic. Finally managed to find ourselves a seat after 15 mins waiting, we were informed they were taking last order for breakfast as it was 12pm which was fine for us. I ordered Quarter Big Breaky, my friends both ordered Eggs Benedict. Staff was nice and it seemed like a nice place.
However when the food came out, the sausage on my plate looked extremely burnt (photo included) and we were wondering why there was no roast tomato for my Quarter Big Breaky as my friends have been here recently in the last week or so and ordered the same dish and there were roasted tomatoes in their Big Breaky as for myself I wouldn’t know since it was my 1st time. So my friends called the staff over to exchange the burnt sausage and question about the tomatoes. Staff was nice and polite saying that she would check with the chef why it was the case. After awhile she came back and told us they ran out of tomatoes as we were the last breakfast order before they changed over to their lunch menu. My friends were not happy with the answer provided as they work in the hospitality industry as well and they told the staff if would be nice if someone informed us while we were ordering or when they brought the food out. So in the end the cafe compensated us with one small cup of coffee of our choice.
Based on the food alone (not taking into consideration of what happened) it is just average. Nothing too special. The pork sausage (they brought out a fresh one) was nice other than that everything was just typical. I have had nicer Big Breakfast at other cafes in Melbourne in general and the CBD. Probably wouldn’t come back as the food didn’t really wow me and I know better places for breakfast.
I could have given a lower review for the food and what happened but the staff was pleasant and not being rude when dealing with our complaints made me wanna give them a better review for their effort.

It’s a good atmosphere sitting In Degraves st, if your not sure which cafe to pick, this is one that doesn’t ever really disappoint me! Pizza is nice and so are the main dishes like the salmon and pasta!

Nice services and good view as relaxing. I’m having breakfast with Get Smashed and coffee, yummy and nice fresh food. Thank you for the food 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Very busy with tourists and locals as always. Its very cheap and very drinkable coffee. Decent bean and milks. Not the best attention to detail as it's so busy, but just fine for a quick and cheap takeaway.

My favorite cafe whenever I'm around Degraves! The staffs are nice and very helpful and the coffee (+ chocolate) is great. Will surely come back to try their food in this summer ❤️
Spudsburgeradventures
Tucked in on bustling Degraves street, a lot of these laneway cafes/restaurants are often overpriced and underwhelming but this one buck the trend and is pleasantly affordable and the food is pretty tasty. I went with the special, an omelette with jalapeños, feta and capsicum, which was pretty tasty and the jalapeños actually had some kick which was great. Coffee was good also and the service was quick and friendly.

My family and I were standing at the doorstep to wait to be seated but no one entertain us. But while we tried to enter the cafe one of the waitresses shouted at us . Most of the waitresses are not friendly at all and the food was so so. Personally think it's not a good experience and not worth it
Ling Yap
Easy to get a table early a.m. food is so so. The hotcakes turn out overcooked and small portion for the size. Attentive good customer service though.
Juhi- Culture And Cuisine
Great location but literally everything else needs a lot of work.

Ordered hot chocolate, flat white, soup of the day and a schnitzel and was disappointed with every single one of the items listed above. The hot chocolate was way toooo sweet and the coffee very weak. The soup was too oily and the schnitzel was just okay. It took way too long for the food to be served and it wasn't even worth the wait.

Given how strong the competition is on Degraves Lane, the Quarter really needs to pick their game up.
Jude D'Souza
Very interesting food selection, the food seemed quite delicate and decently priced for the area. Tasty enough, but a bit too hip for my liking. The chicken in my dish was cooked to perfection.

The atmosphere is always going to be quite chaotic due to the location, but the staff are quick and helpful.
Food
Went for an early dinner on a Sunday evening. The food was delicious and came out so fast. However, staff were unfriendly and seemed annoyed when we were trying to decide where to sit. Will try other restaurants on degraves before returning.

The Quarter :D

Was in the mood for something substantial this morning so when I got to DeGraves Street I started looking through the cafes and seeing what I would like. I decided on the Quarter and ordered the Big Breakfast there and a hot chocolate.

The place was pretty busy and I liked the atmosphere, nice and relaxing, staff were friendly and really great. The food was tasty too, bacon, eggs, bread, sausage, hash brown and pesto it was indeed a big breakfast. Happy to recommend them to anyone coming to DeGraves Street or the city for a feed. :)

We found this little gem about three months ago and have been there 6 times since. Food is delicious ! Haven't been disappointed yet ! Staff are friendly too . The mains are between 20 and 30 ! They had delicious mulled wine there yesterday for 5 dollars which is excellent . The wine is a little expensive but worth the money . I love the booths at the back ! I deducted some marks because the turnover of staff - never seen the same person serving but I guess melbourne is a transient city and the hospitality business is too
Muhammet Usta
Great service, average coffe, friendly staff. There are many coffe shop in same street and you can find many options however the quarter is the one of them.
I had the Haloumi Egg and it was devine. Wished it was bigger portion though. My partner had Get Smashed and it only had one bread. It wasn't really enough for the entire meal. Only complain was the portion is a bit small but overall, the food was delicious! And coffee was great!
Mathew Hnoudis
Came here for breakfast two days in a row. Each time it was delicious. Despite them accidentally sending my coffee to another table, the service was good. The crunchy granola with honey and yogurt was a huge serve and I couldn't finish it. Eggs "Benny" were also nice. Coffee is strong and well made.
Om Nom Nom
First thing's first: the pictures of the menu on this site are a bit outdated, the current menu (as of 04/08/2017) has extra sections like a risotto section, lists the times for when breakfasts and breads are available and accurate prices (they're just a tad more expensive than what the old menu here shows).

When my friend and I came here, it was just before peak dinner time on a Friday night and the place was almost full, though the waitress managed to secure a table for the two for us very quickly. I ordered the vegetarian risotto and requested to add meat to it. Apparently it's not possible to get pork or duck added to anything as an extra (which I thought was odd since there are items on the menu with pork and duck as the main component) so I ended up getting it with chicken instead. My friend ordered the pork belly. It took a tiny bit longer to come out to us than we were expecting but it was well worth the wait. The food tasted delicious and the portion sizes were generous. The quality of the ingredients, the flavour of the food and the filling portions make this place a good spot for a meal if you're not in a rush and have the time to just relax and chat with someone.
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne’s most famous laneway, Degraves Street, The Quarter is a cafe that serves a range of brunch dishes. We were keen to check out this laneway and decided on having lunch at this place. For drinks, we ordered two cappuccinos and a latte. They were made well, the milk was frothy with a layer of cocoa sprinkled on top. For the food, we ordered three dishes to share, the first was the Ricotta Hotcakes with Caramelised banana, candied walnuts, vanilla & cinnamon yoghurt, and Canadian maple syrup. This was decent dish, the hotcakes were fluffy and light and went well with the sweetness of the caramelised banana and maple syrup and the creaminess of the yoghurt. I also added a side of bacon to the hotcakes, just to be extra indulgent.

Early morning in Melbourne cbd, I thought I try one of the popular streets well known in melb. I went for my usual bacon and eggs, and of course coffee.

Service was fast and attentive. The food was good and came fast given they know most people is trying to grab a quick bite before work. Coffee took a lot longer to arrive but they were busy. Overall a great little spot to have brekkie early in the morning.

I haven't been to Degraves street in ages. So I called in and had a look. All tourists to Melb should visit this place, soo many cafes offering good quality food and coffee.

I just wanted a coffee today and I saw the barista here and I thought great, I'll get a piccolo.

The service was lovely, and the waitress appeared surprised when I only ordered a coffee and when I was leaving shortly after I drank my coffee.

Trust me, it's Friday and the bottles of wine above the bar were really tempting. I can have just 1 glass I thought to myself hahaha but no. I'm out for dinner tonight so I didn't worry. But I booked have sat there for hours otherwise, this place was really friendly and relaxing.

Next time I'll skip the coffee lol. This place was perfect on a cold winters day sitting against the window watching the locals and tourists pass by. Now about that wine haha!
Shecaniah Barbarich
Loved everything about this place. The service was top notch. Extremely friendly. The food was amazing. My wife chose the Pork Belly and I ordered the Wagyu burger. Soooo good. And I thought it was all reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back here in the future!
Danielle Sestito
Absolutely lovely brunch (avo smashed), very friendly service and perfect coffee! Finally a Melbourne eatery focused on delivering good hospitality along with their Insta-worthy dishes.

New CBD favourite, thank you for a lovely breakfast!
Suzana Trebus
Very disappointed. Waitress upon arriving wasn't very polite thus a very uncomfortable silence happened when she came to give us some water. The next waitress was very nice thankfully. I ordered the pesto chicken pasta, however it felt more as though I was just eating a chicken mushroom pasta. The chicken had a very odd texture and flavour. The pasta was quite nice expect for the fact that I felt quite sick later on in the day and had to use the rest room quite a bit. I had only had that during the day. My boyfriend who was with me and ordered the Parma, was violently ill for the remainder of the day, going into the next day. Clearly there was something wrong with the chicken that day, but won't be returning any time soon.

Out of the whole lane way of cafes, decided to stop at this one because they advertised almond milk on their menu board. The coffee was really good- not too weak (which happens a lot when using that kind of milk). The food we had (Mezze plate) was surprisingly delicious.. The calamari just melted in my mouth and the roast capsicum dip was so good on the toasted bread.
Service was a little bit disappointing.. There was a girl who pretty much threw my coffee towards me instead of just gently placing it on the table. Don't know what her problem was. The rest of the girls were nice, attentive and fast.. Would I go back?? Yeah, because the calamari was amazing!
MrJan
Tucked away in the Degraves Lane, nice to sit outside and enjoy busy Melbourne passing by.

The Good: Ambiance was great, service friendly and prompt.

The not so good: unfortunately the breakfast (The Smash) is very average and pricey for what you get. Non coffee drinking selection not good.

My friend and I had dinner here on a wed night spur of the moment. We got an outside table that while crowded was still comfortable. Our server Allan really went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after, taking time to explain dishes and the pros/cons of each as we couldn't choose, as well as being honest explaining that the mezze plate was huge and we wouldn't likely be able to eat that and mains!
We ordered the dip plate to start which had the most lovely sourdough and great creamy tzatkiki and capcisum dip. When I noted to Allan that I had not yet received my wine he returned straight back with it, and noted that he had overfilled it by way of apology!
For mains we ordered the pork belly and Barra to share, as we both wanted to try them. It wasn't a problem to get fresh side plates to do this. The barra was lovely fresh and tender, with a zesty lemon sauce. The pork belly was a huge portion, tender and with beautifully Crackled skin and marmalade. Both very satisfying and tasty meals.
Although we were both full the vanilla bean pannacotta w halva and fairy floss was too hard to pass up so we ordered to share. It was a lovely delicate dish and a great note to end the dinner on.
Thanks to Allan for the great service, it was altogether a lovely meal.

Firstly I'd like to note that I normally got my morning coffee from here everyday, and I took my mother here to have a coffee inside the cafe for the first time. My mother and I had a mediocre experience at best, with a menu that is impossible to read... good luck finding the coffee menu... service was lukewarm and we never saw the same waitress twice. However upon paying the bill I brought my rewardle card up to the counter where a woman greeted me with a facial expression I can only describe as disgust. I was a little bit shocked by this but I politely asked her if I could use the rewardle card. Her accent I could understand clearly although she was German, however it was so loud I only picked up the words outside. When I asked her what she said (again politely), I was screamed and yelled at by her. I wondered around outside for a bit not knowing what she was saying, and although I was embarrassed at this point already it was made worse by the woman behind the coffee machine staring at me like I was lost, without asking if I needed help. The man I believe was the manager at this time was outside wiping a wall (???) and I found the rewardle iPad myself and left with my experience of the place completely shattered.

Hello! :)
My best friend and I visited this morning and ate your delicious food.
We loved the coffee and we absolutely enjoyed our breakfasts!
I had the meusli, and my friend had the smashed avo! We so enjoyed it and will be back soon!

On a recent venture down Melbourne's laneway I dropped in to one of my favorite of Degraves st, with a multitude of options to choose from I always tend to be lured back to the Quarter for a Cheeky Latte, let me just say that their barista knows what he is doing, if I worked closer then this place would be a must each and every morning before work and their prices for a Large takeaway ($3.70) are better than some of the less popular cafes thru-out the CBD.

Great food great service! We had a team breakfast at The Quarter which was a success! My poached eggs with my smashed avo were perfectly cooked and my friends French toast stack was to die for! P.s the music was right up our alley 😁
Cassidy & Sneakers
Cassidy – I went to The Quarter with a friend during our lunch break, and I ordered the Pork Belly main. The wait time for food was a little long but they did tell us that when we placed our orders. The serving of pork belly was the biggest I think I’ve ever had. It was two big pieces – it was hard to finish it all. It was good, I definitely walked away satisfied and would try this place again. The pork could’ve been cooked a little better for a crispy edge but all in all thumbs up.

Cleanliness of the restaurant - 7/10

Cleanliness of plates/cutlery/glasses - 7/10

Cleanliness of the menus - 7/10

Service - 9/10

Wait time for food – average - long

Food overall - 8/10

Ambience - 7/10

Value for money - 8/10

Don't waste your money and time worst burger and chips I ever had in Melbourne. Been here few times and we're happy with food good but today we decided we decided it would be last time
Service was terrible, food was terrible what a waste of money and time.

Used to come here quite frequently, but the coffee quality has definitely gone downhill in the last few months, not to mention the barista was rude last time I was there.

Nice little cafe in a good location. This lame way always has a great vibe.

I had a ceasar salad. It was lovely but the chicken was a little over done and dry.

My other half had a chicken baguette which was beautiful.

The pizzas coming out look delish. Food envy.

All in all. Worth popping in for a bite. A little cheaper than most cbd spots.

Had an appointment in the city and decided to catch up with friends for breakfast. Popped into Degraves street for breakfast and was a little disappointed. My eggs benedict, the ricotta hotcakes and the simple breakfast were just ok. The portions were quite small in comparison to the plethora of other breakfast places in Melbourne.

The coffee was great and out waiter provided quick and efficient service.

A great place for tourist but the food quality compared to other places in Melbourne was just not there.

One night we were looking for something wholesome and not overly expensive. Walking down the laneways of Melbourne, we came across The Quarter, just one of many restaurants and cafes down Degraves Street. My boyfriend and I both opted for the soup of the day served with Sourdough bread. This was a great choice and so filling and warm, we were both extremely satisfied after the meal! Sitting at the window bench, we could then watch the world go by on the Friday night!

Absolutely sensational food, terrific, friendly service. Delightful little place, hidden in plain sight . Definitely coming back next time visiting Melbourne.
Salted Caramel
This laneway is a bit touristy. However I was introduced to Hendricks and cucumber at this place so I came back for a meal.
Salad (walnut and pear) could of done with a bit more love. ( too much dressing and no oil, all balsamic and glaze). Good vibe, happy groups of people. Good service. The slow roasted lamb, asparagus, Moroccan spices, fig, walnuts, pumpkin, green beans, should have been delicious. with a list of ingredients like that it should have been packed with flavour. Not really balanced or tasty; asparagus tails ( no tips), tasteless pumpkin - where did that come from. They need to look at their ingredients and sourcing. Presentation looked like they didn't really care- quite disappointing.

Had a great start to the morning ahead of Derby Day. Visiting from Adelaide, ordered big breakfast, Bloody Mary and a coffee. All came out quick and very tasty eggs!

i was hoping they should do more about breakfast menu,it just another mediocre simply menu like the other cafe does, coffee was good but not as i expected, the only thing i could enjoy about this place was only the vibe and the environment outdoor

Oh my lord! A Degraves St restaurant can't poach an egg? Such a shame. Our waitress was hating her job today for all to see, looked ready to scream when I pointed out the clearly undercooked poached egg on my quinoa eggs special. As for the rest of the meal - blah, but I guess $16 is okay for the ingredients. The coffee.... Please stop letting down Melbourne's reputation as the coffee capital of Australia - 2 awful lattes. Absolutely heartbreaking :(

We came for an impromptu dinner, both had drinks and main meals. We ordered the pork belly and gone fishing. Great meal flavours, perfectly presented and not too long of a wait to come out. (We were told there was a wait on the pork belly which was fine) The service, atmosphere and food were all great. We will be back :)

Very pleasant little spot. Arrived for lunch with my daughter. They said no breakfast orders, however people who came in after us got to order breakfast!. The food we ordered was quick and tasty. So mush to choose from in this area.

Great food and coffee! Worst service! Waitress was rude and was as if she did not want to be there. We were sat for over 10 minutes and she walked past multiple times without offering us a menu or even water.

One of the worst customer service I've ever seen. They gotta take this in consideration. Btw " not going there anymore " As a customer I need to feel welcomed......

Love it. We drive an hour to get here a couple of times a month, just for the pizza. We have tried other things, all awesome, but the pizza is the best. Staff are well trained and attentive. Sit in the window seats and watch the world go by. One of our faves.

The vegetarian baguette was very ordinary. Coffee was good. Two business guests disappointed. One couldn't finish his soup and the other couldn't eat his chicken because of layers of bacon - he's Muslim - (written illegibly on the special board). No offer of a replacement meal until we were charged for it and leaving & working lunch already over. Been there many times but no more Im afraid Paulo. What is it with restaurant service. I eat in this lane every day. The place next door & across the lane are 10/10 - good service ain't hard & they'd make their money back in a few days many times over.

Pretty much the worst excuse for a Rueben sandwich I've ever encountered. Stuffed up orders, very noisy, cramped, nothing great here to write home about.

We walked by this place yesterday and it was busy and the food looked good so we came here for breakfast. Ordered bacon & eggs with avocado on the side. Good service. Generous serving of delicious avocado, my bacon needed draining more it was swimming... Apart from that is was yum.

Well it screams 'Great location' !!! I love this street and it has a character. It identifies Melbourne as a city of little food jewels. I has Haloumi Eggs with sourdough bread and pesto. This dish was amazing. I am giving it 4 based on location and the great breakfast. Will try lunch someday and revisit my review :-)

Out of all the cafes in Degraves St, The Quarter was my favourite. I often ordered the 3 Egg Omelette off the All-Day Breakfast Menu, which you have to ask to see, as they automatically give you the standard menu. The 3 Egg Omelette was simple and delicious, baked in an iron pan with chorizo, potato chunks, onion topped with some greens.

Great laneway restaurant for breakfast. The haloumi and gourmet sausages were fantastic and the coffee delicious. Would like to come back for dinner next time.

We had their pizza special of bacon chorizo haloumi cheese toppings, which was a tad too salty. But all is good when we have a glass of sparking white to wash it all down. It's a steal at $5 per glass during their happy hour, and the wine is actually not too bad. We enjoyed the heated outdoor dining ambience, which is great on a winter evening.

I only had a takeaway coffee but it was so bad I had to submit this review. It tasted like someone put bacon in the milk. Weird I know but I just was so disappointed I couldn't drink it.

If you happen to have tasted Degraves st. Food or coffee then You are a true Melbournian lol 😁
The coffee was good and kept me alive for a long time. Better than Gloria's 👍🏽
Back again for a brekkie, jeez that was tasty hence updated the rating to 4.

Fantastic food. I came here 4 times during my weekend away and the food never disappointed. The scones were a hidden gem. Definitely worth a visit

The salad pictured was amazeballs.. Chicken with pine nuts.. Usually i don't make friends with salad outside of home because i don't see a point paying over $15 for something you can whip up at home. But this was filling and very appetising. Had it twice already and hasn't disappointed, coffee here not bad also 👌☕️

I was a bit skeptic about the food as it's located in such a touristy place with good atmosphere and on Saturday night.
However, 4 of us enjoyed a pretty good food (pastas and pizzas), reasonably priced and with excellent service.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who visit the city and want the enjoy both food and atmosphere.

1st visit with the kids on Sunday night. Great atmosphere. Fabulous Melbourne. Laneway. Service was excellent. The waiter was excellent and anticipated out every need (important when the kids are with you). Food was average.

This place is one of my favourite on Degraves Street! Service, atmosphere, coffee & hot chocolate & breakfasts were all outstanding! Was a favourite on our trip to Melbourne so much we went more than once. 👍

The ricotta hotcakes were a big letdown. I got about 4 bites, which, for the price i should have got a lot more. Flavours were ok but nothing spectacular.

Thought our pizza would be a bit better than it was, but overall not too bad. Had the bbq chicken pizza and the mrs went a spaghetti which she thought was pretty good.
Great people watching spot!
