Review Dunyazad - Melbourne

Joyce K
Very authentic Lebanese restaurant. We had the Banquet meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and very flavourful. The fried bread and dips were to die for! Especially loved the eggplant dip, so yummy. Quite generous amount of entree and main for the banquet. The flame grilled meats of lamb and chicken were very tasty. The pudding dessert with rose syrup was our favourite, not too sweet. Great service overall, will be back again.

I felt like I was walking through the doors to Aladdin's house. A beautiful entry way. We were promptly greeted. I was so happy that they were open on a Monday night as it's often hard to find restaurants open on a Monday. The food had so much flavour. We had the Shiek's banquet for $55 per person. There was a large serve of dips, then 2 smaller entree meals, which by this stage We were starting to get full. Then we had our large serve of mains and I loved how the dessert was actually 3 different samples. Topped off with a Lebanese coffee. Highly recommend. The service was impeccable. A lot of attention to details. We will be back.

Food was spectacularly delicious. And the staff members specially Adel, and Mona and another guy I forgot his name was amazing in terms of customer service, from entry to the delicious food till the end everything was the best. I would recommend to anyone coming here. In fact all staffs were very friendly, helped out even though we came late, they still managed to get us a table and served us with the best. Amazing staff and food thats all we want. For sure, coming back soon.

Hommus and taboulleh 100/100 Everything was great Maybe was just expecting more meats in the banquet. Best Belly Dancer Service from the staff were very attentitive and they served you with a smile as well which was lovely. Decor as people described like you were in Aladdin The house Merlot was really nice too.

Great food + Quick and Friendly Service + Beautiful Ambience = Awesome Experience. The service was excellent. We had just recovered from flu and did not want to have cold water at all. So we had asked the staff if they can serve us tap water instead. She was kind enough to bring us lukewarm water without us asking for it. That was a sweet gesture. Also, the food portion size is great. Great value for money. Highly recommend this place for some really tasty food.

Outstanding food and service! The manager Viki is very friendly and professional. He has his team on point, ready to please all. The girls delivered tremendous service all night. Meals were amazing and they were all brought out in a timely manner. Lots of tasty vegetarian dishes available. Very happy with the memorable experience provided. We will definitely be back. Thank you guys, see you soon.

Amazing food, staff was attentive and made some great recommendations. They were honest about the portion size and made sure we didnt overorder. Will come again despite the distance

We happen to visit this place yesterday for dinner and turned up to be awesome place to enjoy authentic labanese cuisine, good enough in quantity and amazing in taste. Must to visit if you are around Balwyn. Thanks

Went here last week with my partner. This was not our first time. We are big fans of this place for the atmosphere, service and food. We appreciate covid has posed a lot of challenges on business such as this and wanted to support local.

When we arrived we were greeted with a damp/mouldy carpet smell. It was pungent and rather off putting. I was hopeful this smell would have gone by the end of the evening but sadly it remained the whole time.

We ordered:
Malofouf (cabbage rolls) - entree
Delicious as always- would definitely get again

Felafel entree
Really delicious- the actual felafels are perfect. And clearly fried fresh. The sauce and salad are perfect accompaniments, all fresh and tasty.

Shish kebabs main
This dish was excellent but we only got 3 skewers. There was also a little too much raw onion for my liking but I just pushed it to the side. Meat was delicious, rice was good accompaniment, a wedge of lemon would have been a perfect addition though. Also- both my partner and I couldn’t help but notice that the takeaway menu version has 4 skewers but we only got 3, and our eat in version was $10 more than the takeaway version. We did get the side of the beans- which were super tasty, so maybe that’s what you’re paying extra for but I do find it cheeky that it’s one less skewer.

Turkish delight desert
This was beautiful there were two types. Not sure of exact flavours as it doesn’t say on the menu, but one pink one yellow. If I had to guess I’d say the pink was classic rose flavour and perhaps the yellow was lemon? Either way both delicious. And we also had some traditional tea which went perfectly to round the meal off.

All in all a good solid local. Will go again and would Reccomended. I just hope they get rid of the awful smell by next time.

You definitely enjoy the great food here, and staff will look after you carefully and politely. However, this place is far too noisy, a bit dark like a jazz club and the grand total in the bill scratch your credit card. So, I'd say you must visit this place to enjoy the taste, but perhaps can't be a regular destination for me.

The whole experience was great. Dips, entrees and mains were lovely. Service excellent. Highly recommended.

I have been here a few times before and couldn’t fault the food and service. Tonight I couldn’t believe I was in the same restaurant. Firstly it took around 15 minutes to have our drink order taken. After around 20 more minutes we had to remind the waiter about our drinks that hadn’t arrived. The entrees (dips, bread and tabbouli) were quick to arrive but it was at least another hour before our mains arrived. Not a huge choice for vegetarians (the waitress was checking other options and never returned) and the falafel was dry. The meat eaters at the table also said their meal was dry. Our table was not attended to, as in the water jug remained empty and we were not offered more drinks. Being a Sunday evening and the restaurant not full, I don’t know what the staff were doing. I went up to the bar before the mains to order a glass of wine which never arrived but I was charged for. When I pointed it out, the waiter took another drink off the bill as a good will gesture (too little, too late). We desperately wanted coffee and baklava but not one person in our group was prepared to wait for it, nor were we offered it. As it was meant to be my birthday dinner with the family, I was extremely disappointed.

Always the best.
I crave the food here. I come from Springvale to eat here.
the babaganoush is amazing, salads so fresh, the mains are always great. Very big portions and very much worth the $$$
I recommend the banquets because you get the best of everything. Especially the meat and cheese and spinach pastries. Also the desserts are very traditional to finish off with and the black tea with mint and cinnamon. Love love coming here.
Oh and everyone is also very lovely.
Best best best.
Tasty traditional Lebanese food dished up in a popular restaurant in the burbs, specifically, Balwyn North. The restaurant has a good, friendly vibe and we thoroughly enjoyed our choices from their menu. Zomato Rating 3.5

Will come back for:
+ Baba Ghannouj
+ Fried pita bread
+ Shish kebab
+ Sharwama

Came here for dinner with a mates family, and was delighted by the service and the ambience. The highlights were the fried pita bread with the baba ghannouj (smokey char grill eggplant dip). This was smooth, smokey and deliciously creamy with the fried pita bread. The meats were also tender and spiced to perfection. Particularly, liked the shish kebab as well as the sharwama (these came with a serving of their spiced rice and salads which were both great accompaniments. Service was friendly and warm, and the place was packed during the weekend. We also tried the dunyazard (Chicken in tomato based sauce) and vine leaves, which we were good but probably not as great as the other previously mentioned dishes. Prices were above average but worth it for what you get. A good Lebanese option if you are craving for it.

My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. The food is divine and the service is second to none. The ambiance is warm and lively, couldn’t fault them with anything at all. Thank you for your quality dining experience!!

Alright, this is a pretty good one, it’s almost as good as my Lebanese grandmas cooking. The banquet is the bomb, you get mezze to start and it’s pretty much all you can eat, then you have mains and dessert. The service is always quick and friendly, I believe it’s a family run business so there is a little heart in it. I’ve visited a lot of Lebanese restaurants in Melbourne, this one takes the cake. Make sure your hungry before visiting or you will be rolling out of the door.

Food here never disappoints. Service is always impeccable. Generous servings. Ordered 2 entrees and 2 mains to share between 3 people. And everything was well presented and cooked perfectly. All time fave is the crispy flatbread with baba ganoush.
Tim Malone
Food was excellent, but the service pretty disappointing. Waited 30 mins before flagging a waiter to ask them to take our order. Waited a similar amount of time before just going up to the counter to order dessert. No apology either - felt like we were invisible, or not really welcome.

Came here last night with my family. Nice place with Arabic feel, fairly spacious and a good atmosphere. We ordered a series of dips and assortments for our entree and were very happy with what arrived at our table, the dips and bread where very tasty and the vine leaves, a personal favourite of mine, went down a treat. For the mains, we ordered mainly plates for sharing, chicken and lamb and were very pleased on the taste and how tender it all was. Only negative point I have to make, it got busy later on and the focus of the wait staff had shifted to newcomers, we where left waiting for quite sometime before my sister had to get up and walk right to the kitchen entrance and place an order for our desserts. Otherwise a good experience

Hands down best middle eastern restaurant I have been to. I have visited time after time even held my daughters baptism here. Highly recommend.

What an amazing venue to host an event! Recently had my son's Christening here and it was perfect. Food is top quality home cooked, really tasty and beautifully presented, ambiance is really nice and staff were exceptional. Dietary requirements were all met and staff were really accommodating. A special shout out to managing staff Raf and Marty who made sure the evening went perfectly and took care of everything. All in all a very special night thanks guys

Got the vegetable silver beet vines and the falafels with tahini sauce. It was all really really good! Just what ya want when you’re sad and alone

Love the atmosphere the belly dancer, and of course the food, have been going here for years, clean and fresh foods, a word of warning get the banquet but don’t eat too much bread, it never disappoints, highly recommended

Great atmosphere, service and food. Belly dancer was a great addition. Serves were generous and a great variety. We chose the seafood banquet and the fish with walnuts was a highlight. Highly recommended
Dinewithme
Food was slow to arrive despite only few tables taken. Staff were polite but they seemed to be very busy all the time. The lamb kebab was very salty but lack of spices. Average food but quiet pricey for a restaurant in suburb. House wine was bad, won’t be going back for sure.
Joanna
First time to be here, so we ordered banquet. Great food with its special features, love the attmosphere and its decration. Waiters are enthusastic and vigorous.

Definitly will come back.
Samreen Sarfraz Sahhar
Loved the food! But never thought about going back because of their filthy toilets! I don’t even want to go into details. Would love to go back once their toilets are renovated and cleaned!

My third time here and booked a birthday occasion for a 6 person banquet at $48/pp. No recognition for the occasion. Not even a candle! The staff were very stiff and it was hard to gain their attention. A buzzer system would be really good in a busy restaurant. The food had too much emphasis on lime but that may be partly my palate. Glad they cater for vegans. The ambience is good. I would go again but I expect more from a top end restaurant like this.
Erin
The service is very average as we weren’t even properly greeted upon entrance, the girl seemed very out of it. Food is fantastic and we were so full that we had to bring half our dishes home. It got worse as we waited a long time until she finally took our order and also ended up leaving after waiting for our dessert for at least half an hour (which never arrived so we just told the guy when we paid). Would still go back though because the food was top notch
Dinerdude
What a disappointment. Having booked the fam for Mothers Day, they sent a group text to ALL of the bookings asking us to confirm.....so my phone was buzzing all afternoon as every single booking confirmed & everyone else received the message !!! Really? ...are they new to this game? Poor form.
We were told they were only doing the banquet menu - $53/head. Ok we thought, it's not gonna be the $60/couple noted on Zomato, but at least it'll be a sumptuous feast.....but it was underwhelming. Banquets are supposed to be elaborate, not just dips & some lame share plates.
Honestly, it quickly became apparent that this was designed as a very profitable event for the restaurant, with a set menu.....easy to prepare, and low cost ingredients.
The dishes were sparse, and not a single one of them could be described as delicious. Not at all like the photos in the gallery here. The desserts were a fail - not one of us finished them. And a non-lebanese coffee or tea was an extra charge.
I love Lebanese food, but this was not good. At almost $500 we just felt like an opportunistic restaurateur had gouged us.
Avoid...

First visit last night as new locals to the area. Hommous was delish, tabouleh was fresh and lemony and matched perfectly to my shish tawook and my fiancé loved his shawarma of lamb and chicken! Highly recommend and will be back

I’ve been a regular at dunyazad for the last 15 years. We have had numerous work functions, and I regularly go out of my way to dine there because in my humble opinion it was the best Lebanese restaurant in Australia! We went there for dinner on Friday night and something was not right, the food just wasn’t the same. Has Dunyazad had a change of Chef? Whatever it is PLEASE fix it! I will go again because I’ve dined there for 15 years of dining but please fix what was essentially my favourite restaurant! PLEASE!

Sunday 5th November 2017 at 8pm.
A really friendly and hospitable venue.
The staff were so nice and accommodating.
We opted for the Sheik Banquet, which was an enjoyable option.
The meal was so filling I was on the point of popping when leaving 🙈😊

Best to go with friends have the banquet and you won't leave hungry and if you do leave hungry there is something wrong with you. Our Estonian waitress was one of the best around, friendly, attentive without being in your face, just fabulous! Belly dancer was a nice touch to the evening. Chicken kebabs were awesome, hommus top drawer, I don't usually like falafels much but these ones were so good, actually everything was delicious. left very happy and we will be back again for sure. This place is a gem!

We went to celebrate my wife’s birthday and the food and the service were amazing. Highly recommended, definitely coming back again. The person that takes reservations was helpful and he was very open and provided me with options.

Have been to this restaurant twice and twice they have not disappointed. Authentic Lebanese food done really well. I love all the mezes, I could eat these all day! Ambiance is wonderful. Do yourself a favour and make sure you also try the homemade ice creams!

The $48 banquet is seriously worth every dollar. Food - amazing (especially the dips), service - very friendly and accommodating, ambience - perfect for both romantic dinners and big group catchups

I had the strangest craving for falafel the other day, so I ordered some from this place over UberEATS. Some of the nicest falafel I've ever had, and served with a generous tub of tahini. I will say, though, that $15 for 8 falafel is a bit steep (even though they are filling), I'd value them closer to $12 - but still, great falafel.

Walking in I felt transported to an Arabian wonderland with very artistic interior and a story to tell, leaving the patrons guessing ...
Such a lovely humble and exotic feel. I don't think I remember such good customer service from all the staff, all so attentive. No request was too difficult. And the food, oh my, the food. We ordered the seafood open banquet, and everything included was just perfect, with a very broad selection of dishes. From chicken to lamb to scallops fish and garlic prawns, (they were by far were my favourite) so unique and flavoursome. The salads and the meat especially the chicken skewers were spot on. Highly recommend Danyazad to anybody wanting to try authentic and flavoursome Lebanese cuisine.

Came with a group of 6 girls and had such a lovely time! We ordered the banquet which was very generous and left us very well fed. Food was delicious and I couldn't really fault any of the dishes.

Service was A++ ! The guys were genuine and nothing was ever too much trouble. Will definitely be back for another great meal.

Great food and very good atmosphere.

Open Banquet is definitely recommended when you can't decide what you want from the extensive menu. You can keep ordering your favourite dishes on the menu which makes it a really good choice if you like something in particular.

Have been here countless times but was definitely a tad disappointed with the service this time. Other then that I would highly recommend.

A local favourite for many years

Used menu log. First time the time was way off almost cancelled the order !
The food arrived 20 mins after ordering , which was great as the app said 1 hour min waiting
Anyway good was very flavoursome
Vine leaves very bitter. More then they should be
Not enough filling. The lamb , chicken was very good. And the meat filled pastry was the hit for Me
Had an VEGAN banquet here, so happy to be catered for so amazingly. Would definitely recommend to people looking for a restaurant with vegan and Omni options

What a great little Middle Eastern restaurant. I went there to pick up some food after finding it on eat now, and was blown away on arrival at the intricate and beautiful decorations of the place. The ambience inside was relaxing and gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and man was the food amazing. I'm not a big Middle Eastern food fan, (my wife is), but this food was exceptional. Loved every bit of it, and highly recommend.
Andrew Weiler
Great middle eastern food. Some of the best I have had. Plentiful, we had the banquet, friendly service. The only down side was its a little noisy.
Michelle Wickman
Have been coming here for years. Great food, great staff, great location. We always have the banquet and always struggle to get trough the lot.
Thanks
Hala Al-El
This restaurant is a family favourite and always delivers on taste and hospitality. Options of a set banquet or single dishes from the extensive menu. Thanks alot to Waleed and the crew.
LiamzlEats
Wonderful interior decoration, friendly staff. Hommus dip was a standout as well as the home made ice cream. While full of flavours some mains were slightly lacking in overall versatility such as the Shawarma. The feta pastries were also another standout that would be strongly recommended.

I had high hopes for our dining experience at Dunyazad, after having read many excellent reviews and having heard from others who had been there for a function. Walking in to the restaurant was like walking into another world - in a good way. So for atmosphere and decor I'd easily give a top score. Unfortunately service proved to be an issue right from the get go. Particularly frustrating was that we weren't served any water until we had finished our entrees! And even then that was only after one of our party had gone up to the bar to ask for some water please. At any other restaurant, there's water even before menus come around! Not so here. We had ordered drinks (nothing fancy just some coke zeros) at the start; and again the drinks did not come until we had started our mains - and even then, after multiple reminders. That said, staff were appropriately apologetic about the delays - perhaps in the future there could be more attention to detail and better organisation amongst staff from the get go. I will say that our waiters were friendly and courteous. Overall, I would be willing to give this place another try and hope that service would improve from our mediocre experience.

Tried the hummus and ashtarout. The food was absolutely delicious. Ambience was well set with all the paintings around. The staff were really friendly and the service was awesome.

Food:
“Samkee Harrah”

问她怎么会这样,那姑娘竟然很无谓的一句:it just come out this way。

I always loved getting the falafel here until I found a hair halfway through eating one. Now that I know they do not wear hairnets when making them, I would not eat from here again.

Very disappointed. I booked for 6:30pm for mothers days. On the day I received a call to explain that I must be out by 7:15pm as there is only a two hour time frame. When we arrived we were told we must have the banquet, no ordering from the menu. The usual price for the banquet was $48, however for the occasion of mothers day, we had to pay $53. No belly dancer, waitress was very disinterested. I wouldn't have minded any of this had it been conveyed to me before hand., At least I would have had the opportunity to make a choice

We reserved the table for 3 via Zomato app on Mother's Day.

Parking:

There is enough parting at front and rear

Welcome Greetings:

We were warmly greeted by the person at entrance and walked through our table. It was a busy night though. Waiter told us while handing over the menu that today there is only banquets options and prices are bit bumped up which was weird because usually many places offer discounts and offers on Mother's day.

Menu selection: 3/5

As there was only banquet options, we got only three, i.e. Standard, seafood and vegetarian. There is an open banquet option as well in each category except seafood that you can repeat the dishes. But we ordered two Sheikh's banquet.

Service: 4/5

Overall service was good. Servers were attentive, quick ,and passing you smiles as well. Order was served pretty quick but appetisers and main course were served at the same time which we didn't like it.

Ambience: 3.5/5

Ambience was very cosy and I liked the wall painting there that was portraying the arabs and their culture. There was enough room to walk between tables. Toilets were very smelly though.

Serving size: 3.5/5

Serving size was not bad. I am comparing it with same level of restaurants. This restaurant is a bit expensive one; therefore, if consider this point; serving size wasn't bad.

Taste: 4/5

Though I am not Arab but I was born and partly raised in Middle Eastern country. Then I have also worked in Middle Eastern country for 8 years. We cook Arabic food at home as well. So, we know how Arabic food tastes like and how every Middle Eastern country has different way of cooking the same dish, for example, Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Tabouleh, etc

All banquet appetisers and main course dishes, i.e. Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Tabouleh, Samosas, Falafel, chicken wings, lamb kebab, rice were delicious except chicken sheesh tawooq (chicken cubes).

In desserts, their Arabic sweets were delectable. There was two more sweets as well, i.e. Turkish delights and Arabic custards. Well, I can't review them because personally we don't like rose water or its flavour. These both dishes had rose water in them.

Conclusion:

My wife got a special mother's day cookie. Well, don't forget, they were charging extra on that day :)

Overall, we enjoyed and definitely would recommend it

Had dinner here last night, really enjoyed everything! Great service from the friendly staff and yummy food. Would definitely come back again.

Had a group dinner here with 9 other people and we were all very impressed. Our waitress was fantastic, food was good and the host went out of his way to make sure we were happy with everything. Only reason I didn't give them a 5, was that there was a fair wait between entrees and mains, but considering they were very busy at the time that was understandable. Overall a very good job guys.

Had heard many good things about Dunyazad, people claiming it was the Best Lebanese in Melbourne, with this being the case I needed to try it for myself and put my own verdict on it....

I booked for a Group of 10 hungry mouths, we Ordered the Sheiks Open Banquet (@$55/Per Head) and least to say we did not leave with an empty stomach, we started with an array of Soft and Fried lebanese breads with Baba Gannouj, Hommos and Tabouleh which was very Moreish, followed by Falafel, Jawenah (Chicken wings/Drummettes), Lahme bi ajeen and sambousik (these were all spectacular), for main we received Lamb and Chicken skewered on a Bed of Saffron Rice and Sauteed Beans (our table went thru 34 Skewers....) and to finish it off we got desserts of Turkish Delights, Baklava and Muhallabia (custard with Orange blossom syrup and Pistachios) accompanied by Lebanese Coffee.

The 2 young ladies that served us were fantastic, had a good chat with them about everything and they were very informative about the cuisine and very attentive, the Surrounding makes you feel like you are in the Heart of Lebanon and the Atmosphere and music was great.

I left wanting more but unable to fit anymore in me, I couldn't fault one thing about Dunyazad, everyone that recommend it was on the money, this is by far one of the best restaraunts I have been to in a while and will gladly return not only for the food but for the fantastic service and will happily recommend it yo anyone wanting a traditional Lebanese feast.
Liv
I have been coming to this place for 10 years. The menu is authentic, tasty and very high quality. I would recommend to anyone for a group of people or for a romantic dinner date.

Exceptional Middle Eastern cuisine. Amazing service and inviting atmosphere. Would Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to try Lebanese/Middle Eastern!

Defiantly the best Lebanese/middle eastern restaurant in Melbourne. Friendly staff, great authentic food and friendly service. A must!!! 10/10

What a restaurant - what a night!!! Probably the most authentic Lebanese food in Melbourne. Definitely our favourite! The sharwarma is mouth watering, the BBQ prawns are to die for and the chef even made us a special that wasn't on the menu!!!
George Birt
Great friendly service and amazing food 👌👍. I'll definitely be back. Had the banquet and enjoyed it all... certainly no shortage of food. Special mention to the succulent meat on the skewers.

My husband and I booked at Dunyazad for our wedding anniversary. I heard Dunyazad was an institution as far as restaurants go but oh boy!!!! The fried bread is to die for. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the food was awesome too but the fried bread was something else. The baklava was a great finish to a fantastic meal. The owner came by to say hi and we had a great chat - very personable guy. He said he was only a "half boss" as his wife was "the real boss" but still 👍👌
Ziggy B
One of the best and most authentic Lebanese restaurants around. Absolutely loved the food, setting and service!!! Will need to visit again asap!!!

First of all, I havent read any reviews. This is 100% my impression: the place is beautiful and cozy with polite articulate service. But are we paying for ambience or food?or hopefully BOTH? If for ambience, then fair enuf. Yet food left me wondering why did I drive so far and made me happy we didnt go with the whole banquet. Because if single mains are average, with regular hummus etc, how would a banquet be? By average I mean, you dont get any wow for the money. No special taste.Shish kebab chewy like many other places. This food didnt stand out to my taste buds and you could tell value of the food from its looks.
Tibas, in contrast, with their ugly ambience & dirty bathrooms still have better food for the fraction of the price. That is, if you keep an eye on the bill they produce.
So overall, Dunyazad, since I go out to eat in hope for better than homemade, I am quite disappointed. And as much as I appreciate the looks of the place, I still come there to eat. If I'd never cooked or tasted any better food, I'd then be happy here. Not trying to be mean, but not worth a second visit from me.

Have been wanting to try this place for a while. We werent sure ehat to get so went with the Sheiks Banquet. Thought the appetizers and entrees that came with the banquet were lovely, however was a bit underwhelmed by the mains which didnt seem to meet the same standard (the lambe and chicken were both a bit dry).

I should make special mention of the service, which was top notch.

The fit out of Dunyazad is amazing absolutely loved it. The staff are just as wonderful as all the other reviews suggest.
I also have to agree with some of the other reviewers that the entrees by far out do the mains. Our filo pastry cheese triangles were perfect! As for the mains I wasn't really a fan of them, they were very messy and a lot of rice with not so much protein.
Overall a good dining experience. I will be back for belly dancers and entrees.

Lovely food and the staff were quite attentive. Shared 3 entrees, Makaneek, Jawaneh andFalafel and they were very tasty in fact the Falafel was probably the best I have eaten. Mains were tasty but I would probably just order entrees if I went back.

I've been coming here from many years and now my father and I visit often.
We know Lebanese food and love it. And this place is excellent. It is one of two restaurants in Melbourne that do the real thing and are at the top of their game. Nice people. Great value.
Worth crossing town for.

The ice cream was so delicious - and the cheesecake flavor was truly amazing! Thank you for the lovely service and flavoursome meals. I'm really looking forward to returning for another great experience!

Delicious food, excellent service. I've been here three times now, and each time the waiters are attentive, friendly, helpful and fantastic. My partner and i got the banquet, and it was fantastic value for money. I love it here !

Fantastic banquet, always a perfect place to go to with a big group of people. The almond rice served with the chicken is amazing!!! As is the hummus
Delicious food , great service , amazing ambience well deserved to be rated as the best middle eastern cuisine in Melbourne , the owners /management and every member that works at Dunyazad have put a huge effort to keep their consistency over the 29 years since the start in terms of quality ,flavor and service!!
Keep the great work up I will definitely be back
Highly recommend

The experience was fantastic from start to finish. Food was delicious, service was great and the restaurant had a nice buzz to it. Exciting tastes were found in every course of the banquet, but the smokeyness of the baba ghanoush was something of highlight! If anything, the food was slightly overpriced for the amount we received. Would definitely return!

We got the banquet here and it was delicious! More food than we could possibly eat but everything was spot on. They catered to all my intolerances and the waitress was so helpful and lovely. Will definitely be back

Other reviews are scoring 4.0 and even higher, i really cant understand how this is possible. Tonight being in the local area, i thought i'd try it out for myself, disregarding advice from others i'd spoken to regarding the average/poor quality. The felafel balls i ordered were extremely salty, and from the colour and excessive crunch, had been deep fried for too long. The tawook roll I ordered didnt taste bad, but lacked enough lettuce, and was absolutely swimming in sauce, so much so that I had to eat it over the sink and it continued to hemorrhage tahini sauce everywhere. The kafta meshwee came in a container with 5 kebabs on a bed of rice, the serve size wasn't the problem, unfortunately it was the fact that they did not taste fresh at all; most likely a microwave job, further backed up by the fact that the bed of rice had dried out/harder bits of rice synonymous with re-heating rice in a microwave. The kebabs had also been overcooked with a black burn across one side. The Ful was extremely average, with the beans having a leathery jacket on them and requiring quite a chew; not the normal smooth, soft, tasty experience you would expect with a well prepared tasty Ful. Got charged $44 for it too. "Best Lebanese in melbourne" one other person wrote..... Hardly. Best in melbourne would be byblos in docklands, followed by maroush in eltham if you prefer more home style lebanese. The lesson here being for dunyazad, is that they never know which customer walking in the door, might be the next person to write them the bad review they deserve here on zomato. avoid.

A great middle eastern restaurant in the burbs. I was pleasantly surprised and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I will be back :)

Dined here a few times. Rather pricey but i guess thats because of the area the restaurant is in. Not a fan of the banquet menu and found it to be a bit meh. I think your better off ordering from the la carte menu. Staff are ok but because they get so busy you can wait a while to get their attention. Its also a bit squishy inside. Not my favourite lebanese restaurant but its pleasant enough.

Best Lebanese food in the Eastern Suburbs if not Melbourne.
Food is authentic with an extensive menu with something to suit everyone!
Staff attentive and friendly, prices are reasonable and the belly dancer gets you going on Saturday nights. Been a family favourite since I was a kid.

I recommend the banquet for sure!

I grew up around the corner from here. If I wanted falafel this is where I would go. I have stated previously I'm not a falafel fan. So this definitely is telling you that it's brilliant here.

Dunyazad have since changed how food is plated and the pricing. There has been no belly dancer when I went there like its sister restaurant (Almazette). But the food remains as good as always. I'm not sure the belly dancer is needed to be frank. But is a fun bonus.

Not a place I would take little children as they may not have the patience to wait for dinner and there is little there to keep small children pre-occupied. But the staff try and love kids so it's up to you

We had dinner last night with family to celebrate my husbands 50th. There was 14 of us so we opted for the meat and seafood banquet. As my niece and I are allergic to wheat we we're just going to skip item we couldn't eat as they were very busy and we didn't want to make a fuss. Our lovely waitress asked if there were any allergies and I explained she insisted on finding and alternative for us so we didn't miss out. Instead of bread she provided us with a plate of fresh veggies to have our dips with and a modified tabouli., and kept the veggies restocked all night. The food was great, I think I could live on the dips, everything from entree to beautiful prawns and scallops, chicken and lamb even the accompanying green beans just so yummy.
They bought out some chocolate coated Turkish delight with sparklers for my husband and we had a dance with the belly dancer.

Our waitress I wish I got her name provided probably the best customer service we've had in a long time, attentive and always with a genuine smile. I hope her boss knows how much of a positive impact she has on the customers. Our bar staff were also very good.

We came here a few time I times probably 15+ years ago and loved it then and I think it's the same owners so that must mean they are doing it right. We will be back soon for sure.

Thanks for a great night.

Beautiful, tender meats, full of great flavour. The prawns were great as well. The eggplant dip was fantastic and smokey. The baklava was great if you like the stickier, syrupy kind with less moisture. I've never enjoyed Lebanese food so much.

Best Lebanese food in Melbourne! Shout out to all the staff who make me feel especially welcome every time I come past. I will continue to eat here for years to come, always a great experience.

Great food, great service, lovely night out - have been there twice now and very impressed - will back again soon! We ordered an array of dishes - all of them were delicious!! Thanks for a great night!!

The staff were great and friendly and great customer service, food was fantastic and our friends made it a night not to forget. We are going to return.

Great to see such a popular buzzing restaurant in Nth Boring!! It was jam packed on Sat night and the crowd even got up with the belly dancer for a boogie! Quite a laugh really. We had a buffet but next time I go I'll spend some time picking through the menu. Service was attentive but rushed due to the business, I'm keen to try this on a quieter night to see if there's a change. I suspect they run a tight ship with the staffing levels but I think they need to increase the number of staff if the place is booked out, so you don't have the waiting staff RUNNING around like headless chickens... It's not relaxing for the diners.
The food was good and above average. Will go again😀!

Lovely food, lots of it, reasonably priced and very obliging and knowledgeablestaff. More importantly, ordered the banquet with a group of friends, our waiter asked if anyone had any food allergies, I said yes garlic and onions. He knew exactly what it was and organise for me to have separate servings of each of the dishes brought out that were free of any onion or garlic and advised me as to which of the other dishes I could and could not have. Not many other restaurant will do that for you on a busy Saturday night. Loved the belly dancer as well. Will definitely be going back.
Fiona
What a lovely place!! We ordered dips, prawns and scallops, falafel balls, sambousik and taboulie for our entree, barramundi, chicken and lamb fillet with beans, salad and rice for our mains and baklava and turkish delight for dessert, washed down with some Lebanese tea. Loved all the dishes actually...you can tell they use fresh ingredients, yum!

Belly dancers come after 9.30pm so I am definitely coming back to enjoy dinner and a show hehe

Great experience having Lebanese cuisine for the first time. The dips were quite delicious as well as the regular and crispy fried pita breads. We ordered each type of meat; lamb chicken and fish as well as eggplant and all were very tasty. Service could have been a bit quicker but the food was worth the wait. Portion sizes were quite generous as well.

Wow. Just wow.
Crazy ambiance that starts at they beautiful wooden doors and lovely murals on the inside.

Very friendly service.

If you're going in with an appetite and plan to order more than just a meal a person - ask for a large table. Nearly every meal comes out on massive plates and you'd be juggling for space.

Delish meals. Their fish was cooed just brilliant. As were their grilled meats.

On the cards for a repeat visit.

The best authentic Lebanese restaurant in Melbourne - genuine, traditional , fabulous meal. Great wine list and friendly and helpful service. I know there are many other middle eastern restaurants in our fine dining city, including modern variations, but we keep coming back to Dunyazad because it's always fantastic.

Absolutely awesome experience, staff were amazing and catered to all needs, we had one of the banquets and the food was amazing and so filling!
Will definitely recommend and go again soon.

Great restaurant in a little food village. Excellent food, warm, friendly and efficient service. Everyone makes you feel welcome and is happy to explain anything if you are unsure. In a little strip of shops off Doncaster Road where there are a number of multi-cultural restaurants covering all food groups competing for your foodie dollar, this restaurant stands out as a gem. Cant wait to come back to see the belly dancing and enjoy more dips - they were the best I have ever tasted and leave the commercial ones in the supermarket for dead.

I dine there regularly and nothing compares to this restaurant's food and service. We had the shawarma which is traditionally slivers of lamb fillets BBQd and stir fried with pomegranate infusion. Served on delicious fried saffron rice. Never had a bad experience there. The manager Frankie is a great guy to have a chat and the owner who has the same name as mine is such a wealth of experience and interesting insight on the cuisine. I noticed as well as many of my fellow diners last Friday that Dunyazad@optusnet.com.au has the highest ratio of waiting staff to customers and the highest number of chefs to customers as well. I also learned that the name of the restaurant is pronounced as: doonyazad. For 28 years I pronounced it wrongly and thank you Walid for correcting me. Keep up the great job.
Walid

Bad night am hoping it's a one off... Always have a soft spot for dunyazad but last night wasn't good. Greasy yellow rice and the lamb was like stir fried! No flavour and teeny tiny pieces (size of dice!) that were depressing. I didn't eat it and they didn't even ask if my meal was ok since I barely touched it then when I went to pay the girl tired to give herself a $15 tip!! Not impressive. Will have to have a break from dunyazad.

Great Lebanese hospitality. It has been a family tradition for us to travel from East St Kilda and North Carlton to dine at Dunyazad and it never disappoints. Today for Mother’s Day we were greeted with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine – a generous touch and indicative of Lebanese hospitality. The food was mostly delicious, the staff attentive and professional and the ambience wonderful – we’ll be back!

Just FABULOUS! !!. Exceptional food and service. Have been there many times, can't get enough of the atmosphere, food and service they provide.
Better food than I've had from any Middle Eastern restaurant including in the middle east.
Very highly recommend it. You can't get disappointed.

Fantastic food and great service. Visited Dunyazad for dinner this week for the very first time, what awesome food and hospitality we experienced. We shared the Sheiks Open Banquet; fresh authentic Lebanese flavours in generous potions. Fabulous baba ganoush, cigars, spicy sausage, lamb skewers, the list goes on...the wine list is diverse if one forgets to BYO, the atmosphere was celebratory and fun not to mention excellent table service with a smile. We will be back without a doubt and I plan to sample the seafood banquet. Yum!

Dunyazad is a large Lebanese restaurant in Balwyn North, on the corner of Doncaster road and Trentwood Avenue. J and I joined Nin and Andy for dinner one Thursday night. The restaurant is traditionally decorated and I believe family-run. We ordered the Sheik’s banquet, and as room was needed on our table for the shared dishes, our bottles of wine (BYO is allowed) were given the ir own tables to rest upon. The first dishes to come out were the starters and they consisted of: Hommus (pureed chickpeas mixed with tahini, garlic and lemon juice) Baba Ghannouj (smoky char-grilled eggplant, pureed and seasoned with tahini, garlic and lemon juice) Tabouleh ( Lebanese salad made from burghul, chopped parsley, tomatoes, onion, lemon juice and olive oil) These were served with Lebanese bread. Everything was super fresh but my favourite was the Baba Ghannouj, it was so smoky. The first of the entrees were the felafels (spicy fried croquettes made from fava beans, chick peas, garlic and herbs
Gastrology
The dips were some of the tastiest I have ever enjoyed. The Babba Ganoush in particular was incredible, with its beautiful smoky flavour.

Dining here is a must. What an experience, from the moment we walked in the door the staff were very attentive and helpful - we decided with our waiter help to do a banquet and I can honestly say, if this was my last meal... I would be a happy woman. The flavors of the food and the variety was unbelievable. Never have I liked Tabouli but this one.. I couldn't get enough of. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough, give it a go and you will be back again like we will be!! Well done and thank you Dunyazad!
