A small, down-to-earth restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful service. Definitely recommend.
Great food, the absolute best meal, service was exceptional, cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough
The food was on the more expensive side but every dish we had tasted amazing! The staff were friendly and luckily we went early as most of the tables had been booked. I would recommend it to others.
Fantastic food
Awesome service
Great people
Highly recommend this restaurant
They also had the best, most softest delicious calamari
I love tsindos. Alex went out of his way to accomodate us and Georgina has to be the best waitress in the world. The food was amazing. The service beyond expectations.
Beautiful traditional greek food. Owner was personable and friendly. He went over and above to accomodate our gluten free needs...
Definitely a must try in Melbourne xxxx
Best greek in Melbourne, not only the food but also the experience. Come here everytime I'm in melbourne and I'm yet to have anything other than an excellent night. The food is delicious (cannot recommend the lamb cutlets and octopus enough) and harry and his staff provide amazing service.
I have to commend the owners and staff of Tsindos restaurant in Lonsdale St Melbourne. At our Christmas team lunch yesterday one of our colleagues needed an ambulance. It was a stressful time as we waited 30 minutes. Needless to say we did not feel like the rest of our banquet. The staff made sure we were well looked after and even made us some extra food once things had settled down. Our colleague is okay. Thank goodness. So if you want great food from good people visit Tsindos.
Good food and even better service.. the staff and owner made sure that we were well looked after and food was simply yummy.
Beautiful meal at a great price!! Came here in 2015 and tonight the meal was just as we remembered!! We will be back, thank you Tsindos!!
Great service and great food. Would definitely recommend this place
beautiful food so yummy and friendly service even as it was late that I arrived for a meal...so would go again
Great food and great service, especially from my favourite waitress, Georgina!

Excellent food and service! Authentic Greek food and wine
Food was exceptional, staff amazing & would highly recommend
My dad was in town and craving Greek food so we tried this spot. It's quaint and cute and feels "authentic" so our hopes were high. We ordered a selection of dishes to share, some of which were hits but many of which were misses. While everything was fine, some dishes (like the greens, tzatziki and potatoes) felt pricy for what you get. All dishes also lacked salt and I don't even usually require much salt on my food. What was great was the saganaki, served on a hot plate with lemon. The pita and the roast potatoes that came with the fish were also quite nice. While the space and service and some dishes were good, I wouldn't prioritise going back to this spot but it was worth a try.
We visited as a family of 8 and were not disappointed. The lady that waited on us was very patient with two elderly parents that we had with us who took their time in deciding what they wanted to eat, and then changed their mind! The food was excellent, recommend the mousakka and fish and certainly a good size portion and not over priced! Would recommend a visit.
This restaurant has a nice homely feel when you enter. It was quite crowded when I came here for lunch but my friends and I were able to get a seat. I ordered the gyros super salad. It was surprisingly good. It had a nice balance of gyros mixed with bulgur wheat. Incredibly tasty and it definitely exceeded my expectations. At $18.50, it was a bit pricey, but you won't be disappointed with the food. Definitely one to visit and I will be back again.
Great food, and the waitresses were amazing. I had the homestyle combo with their casserole of the day, rissole, and moussaka with roast vegetable, huge meal and great value, tasted amazing.

There was a big improvement on my two recent visits here, compared to many years ago. Taramosalata and Melitzanosalata were excellent, as were the octopus, kalamari, greens, salads. Rissoles were grilled, a little burnt but nice and the chicken skewers were also nice (If a bit dry). Desserts are excellent - The Ekmek Kataifi cake is amazing here, ask if it is fresh on the day! Also nice is the Halva they serve and Greek coffee. Definitely would be back, service and ambiance are nice and homely (Although avoid ordering the grilled prawns, they are horrible and bland). Overall a good place to eat.
We came to Tsindos for our work Christmas lunch, a bit of an institute as one of the last remaining Greek restaurants on Lonsdale Street. Initially we went for one of their set menus (which looked like your typical Greek feast) but we were offered a supposedly "better" set menu (possibly off-menu). Sure, why not, surprise me. What came out was more traditional Greek food and I was more than pleased as I usually just get your standard gyros, pita and dips.
We give the green light once everyone was present and the food steadily flowed through. As a starter we get some crusty bread drizzled with olive oil and herbs, on the side olives, olive dip and leafy greens. The combination gives off a bitter and salty tingle in the mouth.
Next up was the feta saganaki, feta, tomato, chill and onions in a mini skillet. Very vibrant dish, the feta was crumbly and creamy and gave off a tangy taste. On the side was some horta, greens with olive oil and a wedge of lemon. Simple preparation, I'm thinking they are teasing us before they bring on the heavier items. The Greek salad was layered on a slice of tomato, again as before easing us in and opening up our stomachs.
An array of seafood comes to our table, a large grilled squid, anchovies and prawns, all simply seasoned with mostly olive oil and lemon. This allowed the seafood to take centre stage, the calamari (whole) was firm yet soft, the sardines were eaten whole (give me the heads if you ain't eating them) and were cripsy around the edges and the prawns were bouncy and still retained its delicious rich innards. A side of baked potatoes were wonderfully crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside.
For the finale, we were brought out a few dishes. The meatballs were super juicy and just fell apart, the tomato based sauce it was swimming in was perfectly seasoned I could almost drink it. We also got some type of beef stew which was nice and tender. The sausages went well with the sharpness of onions, I didn't try the peppers on the side but reports tell me they were not spicy. Lastly we also enjoyed a mixture of chicken and lamb gyros, finely shaven and garnished with tomatoes and onions. Very moreish and not heavy at all.
Dessert was light with a small portion of galaktombouriko which wasn't overly sweet and had almost the consistency of custard. Scattered around were cherries and grapes.
A nice set menu which gave us a wide spectrum of flavours and textures. The food tasted very homely and comforting, whilst I wasn't bursting at the seams I felt comfortable at the amount given. One Greek at the table had a whinge the portions weren't enough and it should have been more generous (comparatively with other Greek restaurants in Oakleigh) whereas another Greek at the table appreciated the authenticity and variety given. Personally I enjoyed it and is a must for anyone who appreciates Greek cuisine.
If you like traditional Greek than you will like this place. The food is wholesome and homely. Each time I go there (twice now) I feel like I am in Greece. Everything on the menu sounds beautiful but my recommendations are Gyros, Taramata dip with pita bread, lamb cutlets and beetroot salad which is awesome.
The banquet here was enormous. Lovely selection of authentic Greek food. Highly recommended.
Had to order a side of dolmades here, a little bit too much oil for me but very nice nonetheless.
Great Atmosphere, wasn’t packed, which was perfect for conversations without having to yell, meals were good and satisfies the spot, the main meal Klefetiko was perfectly done and lamb meat falls right off the bone, all was good except wine paired tasted like the bottle had been open for a while. Otherwise a positive experience!
A fantastic Greek joint in the CBD... nice relaxed atmosphere with simple tasty food. Ordered the lunch banquet... did not disappoint!
Try the Calamari...o dear lord its good!🙌
A cool nice Greek restaurant in the CBD, went for lunch with colleagues and tried the lunch Specials have to say it was really fantastic and the portions were very decent and tasty, I tried the gyros and it was wonderful with a side of salad and potatoes. A good place to try in the city
Here is one of my favourite Greek restaurant. Before I mention the food, their set up is just great with a Greek touch and warmth. Their staff
are friendly and nice. I really like their food and their seafood is my fav. I’d definitely recommend you visit here, here are some pics from my dinner last
night. I did try their other traditional food and dips a while back as well and they were pretty good.
Best traditional Greek restaurant in the city.
Come for proper meals, functions or events where you want to actually be able to talk and hear each other.
Great service. Authentic atmosphere. Have been 4 times and will be back.
I definitely suggest to try some of the Cypriot dishes and appetisers as these are very unique and you won’t be able to find them at every Greek restaurant.
I find the food here very fresh with clean flavours and neat presentation.
So, you want to try Greek cuisine? Book here! My wife and I ordered the standard banquet for two. Superb dips, fresh tasty salad, cutlets, rissoles, seafood - it just kept coming - and it was excellent. Dessert and Greek coffee to end, a perfect light foil to a huge meal.
Wine? Be brave, order the retsina. The staff made sure we had a taste first (as we are definitely not Greek origin folks) and the pine resin notes can be disconcerting, but it goes PERFECTLY with the spicy Greek food. Go on, you will thank me.
Great staff, very friendly and efficient. We will be back - but we will come back less well fed, I could barely stand for full belly when we stepped out.
Quite impressed with the fantastic and welcoming customer service at Tsindos - made us feel like we were at a family gathering with way too much food!
Tried the banquet and I was so pleased that Tsindos was able to accommodate my dietary requirements. Every dish was tasty and we left very full and very happy.
Food and Service: We were really excited to visit this place. Loved the food. Meat was cooked to perfection. Loads of vegetarian options. Staff was helpful, always smiling. Service was quick and prompt.
Look and Feel: Interiors are simple and authentic, which is lovely. There are tonnes of small traditional stuffs around that keeps you busy while eating.
Do try: Gyros platter and if you have some space left(in your heart), try the baclava.
Couldn't find any major fault with our Monday night meal experience, place was busy but staff were on the ball and food was beautiful with no long wait , the place has been around for so long for a reason! Enough said.
Great food, great wine, great service, GREAT restaurant. Had the dips, meat and vegetarian platters and saganaki all delicous. Worth a visit.
Busy and friendly Greek restaurant near our hotel. This place didn't disappoint, the staff were welcoming and helpful. I had a typical moussaka, my husband enjoyed two starters, taramasalata and calamari. The glass of rose wine was perfect. Followed this with a Greek coffee and a creme caramel.
Delightful service, delicious food and huge portions - what more can one ask for?
We came to Tsindos as a mother daughter pair of Perth girls, woefully denied the delights of easily accessed Greek foods.
So, of course, the first night in Melbourne we jumped at the opportunity to experience Greek joy.
After a quick scan of the menu, we picked out its bread, trio of dips, vegetarian platter and lamb kleftinki to share between us.
First came out the pita bread, warm and delicious with any one of the three dips (though our favourite was the eggplant, a pleasant surprise for an avid eggplant hater)
After a bit of a wait came the rest of the food. While almost everything (excluding the zucchini fritters, which had an unpleasant taste in what would've otherwise been quite a nice morsel of food) was delicious, the standout was the lamb - slow cooked and tender, the meat slid succulently off the bone, onto the fork and then into our mouths. I also didn't mind the eggplant- once again a surprise my Mum couldn't resist smirking about- and haloumi can rarely be done wrong.
All in all, a great evening- the only thing that let them down was slow service and a waitress who, while she sometimes offered a smile, offered barely a word. However, this was more than accounted for by the lovely chatty owner of the place.

Lunched today at Tsindos (one of Melbourne's iconic restaurants since 1984) at opening time of 11:30am, I chose the mixed souvlaki (4 x 6" marinated skewers of lamb and chicken accompanied by a Greek salad & chips) for $29 and it was served within 15 minutes of ordering, followed by a dessert of home-made Crème caramel $10.00. I absolutely love souvlaki & this mixed dish didn't disappoint my palate and then the pièce de résistance, the dessert was the perfect finishing touch to a great 2 course meal. I found the waiter Tony very obliging & friendly and had a good sense of humour. Even though the décor was somewhat plain it had a touch of class about it. The ambiance was pleasant with the Greek instrumental background music being at a reasonable level.
The Juror's Verdict: Food 4.5/5, Service Provision 5/5, Will I return: Yes, definitely in due course to try a different menu selection.

Traditional Greek cuisine on Lonsdale st. Once upon a time this was the Greek precinct in Melbourne- now there's maybe 4 Greek shops- Tsindos is still flying the flag for the Greeks in the cbd- gr8 food and service- still going strong after all these years- well done 👍
We went here for a friend's birthday while on a trip to Melbourne. We booked a table for 8.30pm but when we arrived were told that they had sold out of all the specials which really limited the choices on the menu. We decided to stay though and ended up ordering bread, mixed dips, dolmade, zucchini, chicken skewers and calamari. The food was really good homestyle greek food and the service was excellent. We ended up with a couple bottles of ouzo between us and the owner gave us quite a few free drinks which was nice. If you're looking for a place to go with a group for a fun, tasty night out then this is a good choice.
Enjoyable authentic Greek food. Busy but good service . Dishes were generous and meats tender. A good night. Proprietor had to turn several people away.
Love the food here, the staff and the simple but welcoming decor. Plenty to choose from, and vegetarian options too. Delicious! Oh, and one of the owner/managers is the celebrity doppelganger of Joe Mantegna!
Good food and a great atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that we could all try the Greek wine before ordering a bottle. We would definately go back next time we are in Melbourne.
Fantastic food. Beautiful food and keeps improving every time we go there. The staff are very friendly and the place has a very homely feel to it. Make sure you try the kleftiko and make sure you preorder it.
We came here before a show and the Pros: great food and service ... Cons:when paying by credit card the waiter pointed out the tip button Bad taste! We would have left a tip anyway as we had just come from another restaurant that had rude service and this waiter looked after us with a smile and great wine selections but did leave a bad taste in out mouth despite the great food.
Great Greek!. We had our work Christmas lunch at Tsindos and it was a delicious success. Food was beautiful and the service friendly, efficient and always with a smile. We were well looked after and couldn't have asked for a move lovely day.
Traditional Greek Food. Excellent food and top service
Night out in Melbourne. My wife and I had dinner at Tsindos on Saturday 2nd January. The service was excellent, the food was magnificent. We felt like a variety of Greek dishes, and ordered the Banquet for 2.
Will most definitely go back, and recommend without a doubt!
Absolutely delicious food- and staff were very attentive, was a Sat night also. Highly recommend it
Good food @ good price!. Dined alone - wait staff were okay about my not wanting the table in the window so offered a discreet table on the side of the restaurant. Explained to waitress that I hadn't been here before so I followed her suggestions : saganaki followed by lamb souvlaki main with retsina wine. (Yes I wanted the authentic experience and I wasn't disappointed!).
Both dishes were exceptional - hard to pick which was my favourite!
I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the restaurant filled with patrons - obviously a well known and liked place!
Tasty food, even better service!. Food was amazing. I had the combination where you got to try the moussaka, the cabbage rolls and the lamb and it was all fanatastic, full of flavour. The greek wine was also good and the owner was very hospitable, he got to known us and even gave us a free shot of mastika, a greek liqueur!
Incredible!. Extremely DELICIOUS and truly authentic Greek food. Massive portions, even by Melbourne standards, which really impressed us. Needless to say we had enough left over for dinner later that night and lunch the next day! Gorgeous table settings and interior decor added to the genuine feel. The service was impeccable and on point, super attentive and friendly yet not overbearing or pushy. The restaurant manager was super down to earth, took time to have a chat with us, and even shouted us to a few shots to properly welcome us to Melbourne.
Can't fault anything about the entire experience! Yes yes yes and yes again. We will be back 100%.
Excellent Meze. We had some entrees as a Meze the spicy lamb was excellent, the chargrilled calamari was perfect and tender, while the fried zucchini with potatoe and garlic dip was special. We told them we were in a hurry as we were going to an event and they were quick as requested.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, brilliant night. Far superior than The Windsor Hotel, and without the price tag!
Great on a cold night. Enjoyed the food very much. All hearty, well proportioned and affordable. Small, family restaurant. One table occupied by homie-bouzouki & guitar player / singers - very natural entertainment. Would def go back to try more. Recommended!
Really nice restaurant. Small so I would suggest booking a table as many people were turned away.
Dips are yum & very traditional. Meat was a little dry. Baklava was yum. Staff friendly. Overall a good experience!
"We had the "Banquet 2". The value was great; lots of food. The drinks list was very bare, and what I did have (Shiraz - the only one on the menu) wasn't that great. So I ordered a vodka, lime & soda. They use the line cordial, which is a huge no-no to me, but others might not mind it. The overall experience though was great. As a lover of Greek food, it was not bad to good. The portion was huge. Would have liked the dips to have been in a separate bowl rather than slapped on the plate with the whitebait (not a fan). We would go back. The waitress was lovely, she made it very homely.
Love this place. When in Melbourne we always have to come.. Food has always been consistent and even though it's generally a long time between visits the waiter always remembers us. I absolutely love Greek food and when ever there gluttony is my best friend!
Would definitely recommend booking a table though. When we were there saw a couple of television personalities get turned away as the place was so busy! So doesn't matter who you are.. Everyone gets great service..
We had a fantastic night at Tsindos & would recommend calamari, lentil soup & souvlaki. Food was prepared quickly. Wait staff were attentive & friendly. Thanks!
Best Greek in the CBD. Simp.... Best Greek in the CBD.
Simple fish, Greek salad maybe an authentic soup... Service is average,
For a better experience you need to go to Salona in Richmond or Jim's in Collingwood .
Really awesome!!! One of the best meals that I have ever tried!!! 5 stars!!
Very good. Take a friend or more and share the platters. Great food and generous portions. Best greek in melbourne. I'm a repeat diner.
Very good food, little overpriced. I dined at Tsindos recently for a work function. The food was very good, the service was prompt and attentive and I left feeling very satisfied.
The food was little overpriced for what you get, especially the sagnaki.
We opted for the banquet 2. Comments on individual dishes are as follows:
Mixed Dips & Pitta Bread - very good, particularly the tzatziki.
Saganaki - good, but servings too small.
Grilled Octopus - fair and a little bland
Dolmades - delicious
Toursi - good
White Bait - very good
Greek Salad - fresh and very tasty
Seafood Platter Fillet Fish, Calamari, Prawns - fillet fish was bland, calamari good and I didn't have any prawns
Meat Platter Lamb Souvlaki, Chicken Souvlaki, Kaftedes - souvlakis were delicious. The kaftedes were cooked beautifully, with the meat crumbling in your mouth with a great mint/lemon taste.
Chips - delicious, one of the highlights of the meal.
Dessert - good Turkish delights with baklava and ice cream. A good way to finish off the meal.
Overall, I was pleased with Tsindos and wouldn't mind going back.
This place was amazing! Intimate, great decor. Friendly, attentive and helpful staff. Great menu that is reasonably priced. Food is AMAZING. Had the lamb skewers which were so soft and tender and flavoursome while accompanied by very tasty and well matched rice salad and potatoes.
Only downfall was the 6 piece Greek band that were way too loud for such a small space. Would have been fun if I were more in the mood...
Everything here is delicious, especially the lamb cutlets
Best Greek food!. We took overseas visitors to this restaurant - we had a lovely, friendly waitress and service was fantastic. We had the banquet. I could have closed my eyes and been at a taverna in Greece - food was authentic and very tasty. Probably the best Greek Imeal overall have eaten including various trips to Greece. Every item that came out of the kitchen tasted amazing.
When we've been away from Melbourne and come back we head for Tsindos. They make us feel like we've come home. The food is awesome too!
One of the best Greek food I had in a while, value for money and service was great. The waiter was really friendly. I would come back again.
Fantaatic! Well priced, excellent food and service. Well worth a visit
Super awesome 👌🙂 Had the large Mixed platter spit roast with Mixed dips, Pita bread, Feta&olives. Scrumptious food. Lively place. And of course..... the ceiling was marvelously done up with stalactites moulded lighting 👌👌
Staff are friendly. Service is reasonably quick. But the wait is long.
Overall a fantastic experience ⭐ A restaurant you absolutely must visit in Melbourne
One of the juiciest gyros you can fine in Melbourne, it's so soft and tasty!! The dips are also yummy to my taste, and pita bread was flesh, everything was satisfying.♡ Price is very good for the quality of food you're getting. One of my favourite to keep coming back, except for waiting in line and finding parking in the city haha but we really enjoyed our meal ♡
This was my second time coming to this restaurant (years apart), and it was just as good as the first time I was here! This time I had the chicken giro souvlaki. Absolutely delicious. There’s usually a queue to get into this place, but for a good reason (and worth the wait!).
Second time came to this restaurant. You always find a queue outside restaurant but it’s moving quite quick. We ordered Hot sausages, Mixed Giros and Athenian Souvlaki. Taste soooo good! 👍🏻 a little big portion but good!
Stalactites is an iconic Greek restaurant with classic Greek dishes and a unique dining room experience with stalactites hanging from the ceiling (hence the name). The coffee was okay and food were generally pricey for its portion but delicious. Their meat platters are a must-try!
Had a three to share meat platter which is more than enough even for four of us. Taste good as well. The herbed snapper was delicious too! Pita bread is fresh. The calamari is nothing special. But the Feta spinach pastry was really yummy too! Had a bottle of dry red wine wasn't bad too!
