Just would like to say what an amazing experience I had just then tonight. It was perfect in every aspects of my dinner and what I was looking for when I’m dining alone. I would definitely recommend to anyone who haven’t got the chance to dine-in at Cumulus Inc. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to have some of the food choices to be served half of its usual portion (like tasting plates’ style). Pricing wise was very appropriate considering the ingredients used for the dishes. Love to be seated at the bar where I could see the prep for the dishes. All in all I’m very impressed with everything, i.e. service, selections of food, beverage, ambiance. Thank you Cumulus Inc. for giving me a great night out. Keep it up! 👍🏻💕👍🏻💕👍🏻
Table for 2 and Maybe you review - I'm not sure how long it's going to take us to eat our way down Melbourne's iconic food strip, Flinders Lane, but it's going to be one mouth-watering journey.
We crossed another venue off the list recently with dinner at Andrew McConnell's Cumulus Inc.
Like some of the other popular venues in the Lane, you can't book (unless you've got a group of 7-14), so don't turn up at busy times and expect to get a table.
We went on a Saturday night and had to wait for about 15 minutes, but were kept regularly informed of progress by the excellent staff.
The menu is a mix of smaller share plates and larger dishes, which can also be shared.
We started with some succulent oysters and followed with charred haloumi in honey - which I thought was a little sweet but Vicki enjoyed.
We normally order different mains, but I was keen for the slow roasted lamb shoulder with almonds and smoked paprika which is a two-person plate ($74) ... Vicki was happy to oblige.
Like the service, the lamb was exceptional, especially when combined with serves of roast potatoes, confit garlic and sage, and also cos lettuce and nashi pear dressing - both ($8).
It's certainly worth mentioning the wine list which was one of the most comprehensive we've come across.
Throw in a great atmosphere and you've certainly got all the ingredients for another memorable night out in Flinders Lane.
Had the most amazing early dinner at Cumulus Up on the weekend. Decided to try the chefs' menu and we were not disappointed. The waffle with foie gras is possibly the best thing I've ever eaten in my life! Lovely attentive wait staff also. I'll be back.
Had a great night, food was very different but very nice, duck waffle !! Room was quite noisey but had a good vibe, service was excellent. Will be back, o forgot the wine list, Awesome, we had Italian Barbera, 5 star !
Outstanding breakfast! Crumpets are a must have . Beautiful coffee and hot chocolate. Not to mention the Madeleine's with lemon curd yum. Friendly service but get there early.
Really great. Exceptional from start to finish. Exciting and well designed food, great service and some excellent wines. Had a superb lunch experience highly recommend.
My friend & I had the Chef’s selection sample of about 10 courses and every course was a delight. The texture, taste, colours & even the presentation of the dishes were beyond expectations. For the cost of $75 per person, it was a definite winner than having the starter, main or dessert individually. And the staff were friendly & helpful. Highly recommended!👍
Well worth it's reputation. Every course was well executed, innovative and delicious, and serving sizes were great. The cauliflower and the cod soup were standouts. Wine list was also very excellent, as was the service and

Cumulus offered such an amazing dining experience. We ordered several amazing dishes which were appropriately priced - some of my favourites were the ricotta pie, tuna tartare, lamb shoulder, and roasted potatoes! Staff were friendly and attentive and sitting at the bar allowed us to see the amazing cooking action that took place in the kitchen. The cocktails were also zingy and refreshing. We had an amazing time and will definitely be back again!
Such a buzzing place, always booked out. Unfortunately we walked in without a booking in advance so we sat at the bar. But it was still fun since it was a VIP seat to watch the live action in the kitchen. Alcoholic drinks were strong which I liked😛
Staffs did not forget about us and kept coming back to us to make sure we are okay. The portion of the food is what you would expect from a fancy restaurant like this- definitely no more than a kfc lunch box meal in portion but it surely tingled my taste buds with the new taste 😋

Everything was just heavenly. What an experience. Delicious range of food. Quick and very friendly service. Would highly recommend it. We went there for an early lunch on sunday and just loved it.

Could have chosen to knock-out 1 for not-so-friendly service but then it wasn't too bad. A smile or a few second banter would definitely add an extra charm to the whole experience.
I now know why after travelling past this establishment for awhile.. That burning question was always there.. Why is it always full of people all day and night. Well after waiting half an hour to get a table.. I now know why.. This place is just great.. Food, Service and Ambiance. You walk away after having a great coffee and very friendly service and all this with a really good meal. Love the buzz... Well worth the wait for a great start to the day.

A small casual restaurant serving delish food with good service.
Although all the dishes were excellent and nicely presented, I'm going to highlight my favorites.
For entree the cold meats on the charcuterie platter were very tasty however my pick would be the tuna toast, also beating the stuffed zucchini flowers which were beautifully presented on the plate.
For mains the lamb shoulder was a standout. The large portion of lamb was moist and tender.
Finally, dessert. It was difficult to choose a favourite but if I was to it would be the rumbaba. It is not a dessert often offered at most restaurants and at Cumulus Inc. it is made even better because it was served with a bottle of aged rum so that you can add as much as you wish according to your taste. As the rum is the feature ingredient in rumbaba we of course had to ensure that it had a strong rum flavour. The rumbaba was nicely complemented with custard.
We had a great dining experience and highly recommend Cumulus Inc.

Dishes ordered: Tuna tartare, slow roast lamb shoulder, kipfler potatoes, asparagus & egg yolk sauce, madeleines filled with lemon curd
Totally enjoyed all of them, but personally feel that the portion for asparagus could be more generous! We asked for extra bread to go with the lamb shoulder sauce and it goes really well. And the madeleines are always a must order I’d say (do note that there’s a 15 minutes wait).
Good service although it was a busy Friday night, overall a pleasant experience.
What an experience! Came here with one of my girlfriends and we got situated on their bar stand where we got to watch the kitchen work their magic.
Ordered their beef tartare, foie gras parfait, jason iberico joselito, mussels, slow roast lamb shoulder, pork cutlet and asparagus. Wow wow wow, can’t fault anything. The food was spectacular and the service was on point. I can see why this place has such good reviews. Really amazing
A real “Melbourne Vibe” to this place with great coffee & food to match. Had the smashed avo with smoked salmon & a poached egg.
This place is super popular & can gets really busy on weekends so you’ll want to get in early unless you don’t mind a short wait.

Cumulus is unassuming and not trying to be something its not. Must try the artichokes with stuffed parmesan! The lamb shoulder is amazing too!
Cumulus Inc is a large restaurant with High ceilings and plenty of tables for small or large groups. The menu is designed for coffee, brekkie, lunch or dinner 7 days a week. We were there for dinner which is designed to share. We had oysters, charcuterie, Wagyu with beetroot, Pork and a seafood (mussels and prawn dish). All dishes were incredibly tasty and nicely presented, but on the small side for their price. They’d run out of house made bread. A huge wine list, as well as cocktails and coffee / tea. Our waitress was efficient and good fun.
This is one of Melbourne's great food institutions. Packed for Sunday lunch, we were greeted warmly and seated quickly. Friendly service helped us choose from the menu of culinary delights.
Soon we were enjoying every morsel of the fried green tomato with spanner crab, tender snapper and famous lamb shoulder. The chefs here make innovative use of ingredients an art form. The combination of flavours and textures was exciting but balanced, making every mouthful a taste sensation. The lamb shoulder is a generous portion, leaving no room for dessert.
Professional and attentive service throughout the visit with speedy turnover by the kitchen being appreciated. High ceilings compensated for the crowded floor, as every space is filled with people standing or sitting. Casual in style but high quality gastronomic offerings make this a place worth returning.

Arriving a little early for lunch, my dining buddy and I were greeted warmly and seated at the bar for drinks. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and provided good recommendations.
While waiting for our mains, we were served some amazing breads to tide us over. My gnocchi was superb, and the fish came with the most spectacular broth.

Went to Cumulus Inc last night without a booking but we managed to get a seat upstairs at the bar overlooking the chefs. The vibe of this place was nice and cosy, dark, casual, and maybe romantic. To be honest the menu for me looked a bit small and nothing really appealed to me so we just went for it and ordered things, and I was definitely surprised. The food was amazing! We started off with the ‘fried green tomato and spanner crab’ which was my favourite, the tomato gives it the slight freshness and the mound of crab on top just was perfect. My friend’s favourite was the ‘beef tartare’ which seemed to be a very popular dish. We also ordered the ‘cauli fioretto, kalettes and Aleppo pepper’, the fries, which were both nice.. and the bread which we didn’t end up receiving. The only negative I have is the bathroom is a small unisex room and in there are 3 toilets.. I walked in to a guy peeing in the girls cubicle with the door open.. I don’t think the restaurant can change the toilet situation to have a separate girls and guys bathroom though.
Love this place, the sourdough was so delicious, the menu was interesting, the place was bit crowded so not recommended for large group.
This is the perfect date night venue, it’s got a great vibe, atmosphere and lighting- there’s a buzz of conversation in the air without being too noisy and if you want an extra show, it’s actually great to sit at the bar and watch the kitchen staff do their thing.
Service was on point, friendly and attentive enough; and the food and drinks were absolutely delicious. Would definitely return to sample more of the menu

This is a review on the bar and service and not on the food. I was invited here by a friend who has been a regular for years. It was a wet Melbourne evening and came in with raincoat, beanie, and brolly. I was definitely out of place but once I undressed to my normal attire, fitted right in.
We sat at the bar and conveniently there were little clothing/bag hooks in front of the bar stools. Bingo!
Behind us was buzzing with those dropping in for a drink, starting an early dinner and by the time I left, the first of the solid evening diners.
The waiter (wish I got his name) was so lovely and his customer service was outstanding as was anyone we interacted with.
A G&T plus a beer to start. Impressed that the straw was metal - resueable. Nice touch everyone. Then we were enticed with a Negroni because.....wait for it.....it’s Negroni week. The waiter gave us a concise summary of what it is but frankly, after the word gin I was already in!
I watched him prepare one and wish I’d made a video. It’s quite the art to mix and blend the ingredients. The first sip is tantalising with the aroma of the citrus on the glass rim along with the smoky mix of alcohol. I can’t say it was brilliant but certainly appreciated the ‘experience’ of trying something new.
If the food is as food as the drinks service then I will return and rereview Cumulus.

Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Definitely worth checking out at least 3 times. Do ask for the counter seats which over look the kitchen, the chefs are awesome!

What consistency of the quality of food that was brought out as part of the banquet!
To cater for the dietary requirements we had and to come through with how they did was amazing.
The beef tartare, artichokes, prosciutto, gnocchi were the highlights. Everything was also very good!

Was lucky to go here with a friend! The food is fantastic, with a variety of unique and tasty dishes. I loved the Gnocchi and the tuna dish. But was pleased with the quality of all the dishes. It offers a beautiful setting and great service. I loved sitting at the bench eating the food and watching the chefs all cook away!
We were super lucky to get a walk in table on at a Saturday night. We were seated at the bar watching the friendly bartenders mix up their concoctions. My man left me in charge of ordering so I opted for some natural oysters, foie gras parfait, beef tartare, broccolini, buffalo ricotta gnocchi and steak. The oysters were fresh and salty. I absolutely fell in love with the beef tartare. So rich in flavour and served on anchovy toast (sounds weird but amazing!). The foie gras parfait was delicious served with softly toasted bread. The gnocchi was so good despite being a vegetarian dish, even he liked it! The steak was definitely a big win, super tender and served with a delicious jus. Amazing venue and will definitely be back to try the other dishes.
Came here last night for an anniversary. It was my first time and I really enjoyed the entire experience. We went with the set menu and there was no fault in each dish. Everything was fresh and cooked very well, especially the lamb which was so tender and flavourful. The tuna tartare and the mushroom dish were also a couple of favourites.
The service was really friendly and prompt.

We were a group of ten for a Saturday breakfast! Baked eggs, mushrooms on toast and Granola were stand outs according to the crew. But everything was fantastic. Everyone was impressed with their meal and agreed they would head back to Cumulus again. Great service also. 👌🏻
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne! I have never had a bad dish here. At breakfast, the breakfast board is always the perfect solution to my indecisiveness and the coffee is awesome. At lunch, the sandwiches are fabulous if I manage to score one (disclaimer, they sell out quick!). And at dinner, the best is the lamb shoulder and the gnocchi, with a special mention for the hot bread and high quality butter served with it! I love that you can watch the chefs cook your meal with the open kitchen, and although Cumulus Inc gets super busy, it still manages to feel intimate and homey.
Food is great but the lamb is not the best i had in Melbourne. Too much sauce. Overcover the taste of the lamb itself. Service is normal. The waitress made several mistakes. Overall 82/100
We went there for lunch on Saturday. It’s very busy. We only can sit in the bar. The food is excellent. The corn is crispy outside. The lamb is cooked just right, very soft, and the source is tasty. The only problem is too noisy. We wanted to order the desert, but my friend felt too noisy to stay any longer. so we have desert somewhere else.
This is my 3rd trip here. I’ve been for 2 lunches and a breakfast. I must say I prefer breakfast than lunch and can understand why there was a long Q. Love the blood pudding, bacon & salmon gravlax.
Beautiful venue for a special occasion or date night. We were sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen - was a great experience watching the very hard working chefs, although the seats not terribly comfortable.
The food was sensational - we had the spanner crab, charcuterie selection, Caesar salad (wow!!), gnocchi (amazing) and lamb shoulder (YUM!). Drinks were also fabulous, though a little slow to arrive.
We had two desserts to share not actually currently on the menu and both were delicious.
We will definitely be back.
Actually a restaurant with delicious food, super friendly staff and great atmosphere. They serve housemade sourdough which is soft and light. Beef tartare is an entree you must try! I honestly think you cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Larger meals are perfect for sharing, we had two larger mains, a few other sides and two entrees for 4 people which was just the right amount of food.
Wow this is how it’s done! What a fabulous experience- date night done right. We had the tasting menu and we were utterly blown away - the highlights were the lamb and the tuna tartare. Simply brilliant service, drinks and food
One of my favourite to go to places or show friends around town and dine.
Love the slow cooked lamb and the condiments for more 2 or more. Pigs ears croquettes are pleasant as well as their sharing selections. After work drinks and nibbles are usually the go during the week and weekend tourists and pre event dining as well.

To summarise the best dishes I enjoyed: Slow Roast Lamb Shoulders (larger dishes), Pharmfarm black barley (salad) and the sashimi dish at the start.
Review
We booked for lunch around 1.30 PM on a Sunday. It was fairly busy, so it was a bit difficult to hear each other but we were still able to enjoy our meal.
We ordered the chef selection menu includes around ‘9-12’ dishes. Also they offer outstanding bread, which is delicious and unlimited!
The first few dishes brought out was the oysters, cucumber quark and a sashimi dish. I’m not too sure where it is in the menu - maybe was the ocean trout? They were all delicious, but I personally loved the sashimi as it was light yet the flavours and textures melted in your mouth.
The next few dishes included a few meats in the charcuterie section, ‘pharmfarm black barley, charred sweet corn & pumpkin seeds’ and padron peppers, smoked Parmesan aioli. The charcuterie melted instantly in your mouth, each padron peppers was a surprise to the mouth (chilli, mild or bitter) and I loved the black barley salad. The salad was delicious as there was a crunch and the flavour was spot on.
Out of all the dishes we received, the Cos dish was most disappointing - I think there was missing elements to the dish and I didn’t like the sauce.
Roast potatoes and the slow roast lamb shoulder. I think by the time we reached to the potatoes we only had one or two bites - delicious but too full to finish.
You must order the slow roast lamb shoulder if you love meat. The meat was tender and melted in your mouth instantly. Really beautiful dish!
Lastly for dessert, we had the mango parfait and a dark chocolate dish. Both were really delicious! Mango parfait was light and refreshing after the big feast we had. Whilst the Dark Chocolate was rich and smooth!
Altogether I would rate this place 4.5/5!
Food was great (dinner).
Service was friendly and welcoming although missing some of the “polish” I was expecting. For example; napkins left on the table (not placed on lap). Empty bottles on our tiny table, moved by staff repeatedly, only to be taken away when we asked. Not a single plate or cutlery change over four courses.
It’s quite possible that I am losing touch with what “fine dining” actually means, but I kind of felt this place was lacking in the finer touches.
I’ve only ever been here for coffee and breakfast. I’ve tried the madeleines but found them to be a little heavy/dense. I will continue to return however for the crumpets- they are delicious and they are served with some whipped ricotta, lemon and honey. I haven’t tried any other breakfast items yet because I can’t help but order the crumpets. I wish they were also available at Marion! I’ll be back to try out the dinner menu
Had a rather good dinner with friends here. Lovely small starters and large dishes, however, ordered the chocolate tart for dessert and that was too sweet for my liking. Otherwise great service and lovely small starters.
Celebrated my birthday dinner here last September and tried their Degustation menu. Service and food were excellent! Our server was happy to assist us. Made everything special.
Delicious, we could have ordered one of everything. Ordered the chefs selection, probably would have preferred to select but each taste was great! Delicious fresh & amazing. Loved! We will be back!!
Really nice atmosphere and amazing service. All staff were knowledgeable about the menu and was attentive! The special I got for a main which was the smoked trout wasn’t the best however.. lots of bones and not enough flavour or condiments to complement the dish.. again though the service was the winner here and would like to come back try some of their cocktails too.

It’s rare for me to give a 5 star, but the food and service were that good! It was our first wedding anniversary and they really took good care of us. Portions are huge, unlike other fine dining establishments where you leave feeling like you could take on more. I am not a fan of lamb, but the lamb shoulder was really great! Clearly cooked for a period of time, meat was tasty and not tough at all! I also enjoyed the spatchcock. My husband thought the starters were superb, but I much preferred the Madeliene dessert. Don’t forget to order the roast potatoes! Was hoping they could customise and write happy anniversary on the plate, but ntg I was very upset about. The meal came up to above $200 because we also ordered drinks, but otherwise the food is fairly priced. I think we overate, but I would def come back!

I would have given them a 5 star if it's not because of their really snobbish staff members. I come here mostly for their breakfast. My favourites are:
- Eggs florentine
- Crumpets with whipped ricotta
I've also been here for their dinner set and it's pretty good, very filling!
Their food is really good and well made. But such their staff pays very little attention to your needs and they serve dishes quite roughly. I hope they will improve their service.
Friendly service, fresh and tasty food for sharing. Lively atmosphere. Extensive wine list. All good. Will return. Recommend. Only gripe, learn to make a proper mojito.

A group of us came here for lunch on Thursday and our experience from start to finish was incredible - welcoming, accommodating and professional. And not in a stiff or pretentious way. Amazing food, amazing wine, amazing service. We loved everything we ate, which included a charcuterie board; heirloom carrots with macadamia and sherry; broccoli with garlic yoghurt and chilli; roast potatoes; gnocchi with sugar snaps and asparagus; sirloin steak; and the slow roast lamb shoulder. A return visit is definitely on the cards!
Andrew McConnell's Cumulus is Melbourne institution. Situated on Flinders Lane in the CBD, it's soon easy to see why this venue is still brimming with patrons after 10 years of service. Whilst the venue is slightly cramped and quite noisy, you will soon by distracted by the food that is nothing less than exceptional. To start with we had the Tuna Tartare with goat's curd and crushed green pea, as well as the Foie gras parfait with toasted brioche. Whilst both dishes were exceptional, the foie gras parfait was without a doubt the best foie gras I've had in Melbourne, even giving Heston's meat fruit an unexpected run for its money.

I love the food in cumulus inc! Everything from their tuna with goats cheese (and I don’t even like goats cheese), their freekah and wheat salad, their steak special with amazing potatoes and finishing off with the must-have lemon curd Madeleine, everything was simply perfect. I think the only thing that I wasn’t too happy about is that I knew the lemon curd Madeleine takes 15 mins to prepare so I ordered it when we order our mains, and the waitress even asked whether we are in a hurry and I said yes, YET they only began making the madeleine wayyyy after we finished our mains which was a bit annoying
Tuna tartare is a must. It’s an elegant looking dish as well as very delicious. Dinner was a delight. We can’t wait to come back and try more of the scrumptious looking menu.
This is a very affordable and delicious breakfast. Shakshouka was flavoursome and filling, so are buckwheat waffles with smoked trout (it was a cold serve dish, keep it in mind). Spicy tomato juice definitely had a kick to it!
Fast service and we didn't have to wait in queue for a long time! Definitely recommend it!

We had some seats overlooking the kitchen. It’s great watching your food being prepared and plated. The service is good, and the food is tasty. A wide selection of dishes is available.
I came to Cumulus for an event upstairs. The set up was stunning with great lighting and decor. We got to try many dishes in a ‘feed me’ style of dining. Each dish was unique and absolutely scrumptious. I would highly recommend Cumulus to anyone wanting to hold an event at a restaurant venue.
Be prepared to wait on Friday nights or Saturday as this restaurant can get really full. The food is great, the service despite a busy Saturday night was top notch. Would definitely return for more
Unfortunately I was too hungry to take pictures and note the names of what I ate here for entrée or desert, however I had the most delicious duck for mains.
The environment and staff are inviting and very accommodating as when I went, we unfortunately did not book a table, however were given one in around 15 minutes.

Just want to say that we had a great experience at this place. We sat at the bar at breakfast time and the waiter behind the bar was friendly. We had bacon bap and the housemade crumpet and had madeline for dessert. The crumpet wasn't really my thing but my husband thoroughly enjoyed his bacon bap. Very simple menu though.
A very cool place for a brunch, tried poaches eggs and coffee, both were very good.This place is very close to public transport and one needs to be on time for breakfast as menu changes post 11.30 am. Be on time and be ready to wait on popular timings.
Stopped in for breakfast after a workout on a super busy Saturday morning and the place was jammed! After waiting a little while for a table (which, it’s Melbourne, you’re waiting anywhere on a weekend) we were quickly brought drinks and shown to our table. I admit to having some breakfast envy with my fellow diners, they both ordered the Shakshuka and I had the porridge with a nip of whiskey which was good but next time I’ll definitely be having the bake!

Visited for breakfast on a chilly Monday morning. Loved the quiet atmosphere for an excellent start to the week. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the Cumulus Inc Breakfast -their take on the ever popular breakfast board. I was greeted by two giant pieces of white sourdough and a small slice of multigrain sourdough, to be slathered by my choice of three preserves (blood orange marmalade, strawberry jam & blueberry jam). The preserves were placed on the table in three big jars, so you can apply as much as your heart desires. Also received a boiled egg, butter, fresh OJ, a small jar of vanilla bean yoghurt with stewed fruit. Your choice of coffee is included for a bargain of $18! The coffee is the only thing that let this place down. My cappuccino was weak and far too milky for my taste and was missing the ubiquitous sprinkle of cocoa.
Next level, world class dining - schmick, personable service and exquisite food. After all these years, Cumulus just keeps giving and giving. Testament to, and a fundamental part of, the enduring excellence of the Melbourne food scene.
This place is often popular for brunch and so it should be. I've been there a few times and often surprised by the tastes of the dishes. Last time I had homemade crumpets, which are very different from the stored bought crumpets, really tasty. It is served with honey and ricotta cheese. The honey is Rooftop honey from CBD.
