Great beer selection, friendly helpful staff. Great full menu too. Can recommend most meals, as I haven't had them all yet. New bar upstairs too, make sure you check it out.

Fantastic old style English watering hole with great staff who make extra effort to make you feel welcome. Whether you prefer a chilled Sav Blanc or a pint of ale, you will find excellent options for both in Dr Watson's bar to accompany a fabulous meal from Mrs Hudson's pantry. 😊

I was looking for a place to grab a beer so I dropped into this bar. Down a set of stairs is this bar serves a great range of beers.
I tried an O’Haras Irish Red, Nitro beer. This was a great creamy beer, w some nice slight almost milky consistency and it hit the spot.
I’m definitely going back here as they serve a great range of beers, some of which I haven’t seen before. Cheers.
Great pub. Probably best real pub in Melbourne. Had the guiness pieGreat flavour (added extra gravy). Plenty of chips. Reasonably priced wine. Will be back again.
The only reason it gets a 4 and not a 5 is the chips come with gravy and not curry sauce.
After a night of drinking very good English beers (the Hobgoblin is excellent) I longed for a taste of home but the chips only came with gravy a nice gravy it must be said but where you come from in the UK tends to dictate the condiment you like with your chips when drinking beer.
So please put some good chip shop style curry sauce on the menu to go with the excellent chips
As an ex pat I am course somewhat biased about the Sherlock. Cosy feeling to the pub not at all ‘chain’ like. Enjoyed a hearty bangers and mash with the young lad and the boss loved her steak. Service was spot on, just the one lovely friendly and attentive young woman running the entire show out front. Haven’t been here as often as I used to of late, shall certainly remedy that :-)
Neatly tucked away from Melbourne’s hustle and bustle, this English-style pub has an extensive menu and commendable service as well. I’d highly recommend making a booking or going before 12pm as this place is busy everyyy time I visit! Shows how good their food is. This place will leave you full, portion sizes are generous. Not suitable for big groups if you’re looking for a work lunch spot. Order the roast with a glass of red!
The Sherlock Holmes pub downstairs has a very traditional English pub feel. The ground level Dr Watson's bar is quieter for dinner. The pie of the day is like a pastry ball. The gravy has a nice sweet onion taste. The Bangers & mash came with mushy peas, very English. The roast of the day serving was generous and came with a yorkshire pudding.
When you're looking to escape the crazy from outside and be taken to a different time and place, then this is the place for you. With its charm and character of somewhere else, this place cossets you in a way that is both comforting and reassuring. The food has the softeness and warmth we sometimes all need to re-energize. A really nice venue that does exact what you'd expect and more.

Location- Right next to Miss Collins, easy to miss- so be sure to look hard.
Drinks- well priced drinks. Felt spoilt for choice.
I wish I had longer at The Sherlock Holmes but will be back for more.
Really good roast at this place. I guess from the roast alone that all the food must be quite good. Great selection of English and Australian beers on tap in their handsome bar. The venue is small but is by no means uncomfortable. Service could be a tad friendlier?
Went for after work drinks and loved the tap beer selection and the perfect pour from the bartender. Unfortunately a lot of the pubs in the city are running dry on tap beer options and sometimes these are not cold enough or the bar tender is uninterested. However, Sherlock was a very good experience and definitely going back for food next time!

Walked past this old haunt yesterday and noticed a brand new upstairs area. It’s light, bright and super inviting. Popped in for lunch, the staff are incredible friendly and attentive. Food is traditional pub fare, I ordered pie of the day which was chicken and leek.. the pastry was crispy and filling was really tasty. The table ordered the ribs which were delicious and the salt and pepper calamari. All in all great addition to a well know favourite pub.
Food and Service: After a rather light dinner on Friday evening, I was craving for some good beer. A quick search revealed this place on Collins St, and we decided to try it, since selection of beer on the menu seems pretty radical. I must say, I wasn't disappointed. Food is surprisingly tasty. Staff is fun and polite. Quick service.
Look and Feel: It was quite bright for a pub, but at the same time perfectly complimenting the interiors. There's loads of stuff to wander around you, keeps your mind occupied.

Elementary my dear Watson!! Loved it. Great pie and chips with delicious gravy. My mates were also very happy. Was packed as we arrived at lunchtime and was full of suits (the only downside 😜). Plenty of selection on tap, staff with banter, a sure fire thumbs up from me 👍
Hearty British pub food with great choice of beer for most palettes. Staff are friendly and ready for a good conversation. Expect a proper pub and proper atmosphere - unlike some typical Aussie pubs. We had the pie of the day that is HUGE in size and house made gravy complements well with the pie and thick crunchy chips. Good value for the size and we will definitely come back again!
The old Sherlock homes, a fascinating and luxurious icon. You could call it the crown jewel of melbourne's city. Shining brightly amongst the stars. Glowing and translucent. The food of incredibly high standards and drinks forever over flowing, my goblet was filled to the brim. I highly recommend this magnificent and extraordinary eatery.
Very delicious food and and range of drinks to choose from . Always very friendly and happy staff. Good to see attentive customer service. They are good at what they do.
Have eaten here many times with work colleagues. Food here is good pub grub - nothing too extravagent or amazing - just English pub classics. Extra .5 though for the staff and the fact that this is one of the few places around Victoria that you can get Hargreaves Hill Extra Special Bitter (ESB) on tap! A glorious beer, and will sometimes pop into the Sherlock just for a pint of that crafty goodness.
The name itself impressed us a lot and we wanted to check it out just to experience the "Sherlock theme" 😄 and we were not disappointed!! From the 221, Baker Street entrance to the menu-everything had the 18-19 century charm of the British Era! We ordered wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli with Sherlock's favourite drink and they were all right. The service staff seems friendly and prompt as well!
Old English style pub serving a massive range of pub grub that includes roast of the day and a list of different flavors of chicken parmigiana. Nice hosts and overall enjoyable place for a nice beer and food.
We come here most weeks for the trivia. Friendly staff, good selection of beers and the food is pretty good too. But this week, the roast of the day has prompted me to finally review the place - amazing beef roast, literally fell apart as I attacked it with the cutlery, good potatoes and veg, and a half decent pint of Guinness to wash it down with. Shame we didn't win the quiz...
I felt the British kind of Ambiance in the pub. I had been there twice last year in this pub with my Aussie friend who loves and lamb with Cabernet Sauvignon mostly.
He got a regular beer with Rib eye streak, he was upset there was no lamb and I ordered for crunchy chicken salad

The beer is always good but the food can be variable. It's just hard to get good pub chefs these days.
But I'll never complain about the Sherlock.
5/5 for the service because the staff are all so friendly and made me feel very welcome. 3/5 for the food. Good value for money in terms of quality and quantity. Venue is interesting so I give it 4/5.
What a wonderful evening. Female staff amazing. Booking made and kept despite crazy busy evening. Food wonderful. Ambience lovely. Only issue was the male bar person as we paid our bill saying no split bills despite the lass managing it without issue for the people ahead of us. So many reasons why I wish places would get over this nonsense! Firstly as a single person why would I want to pay for my friends? Secondly in this day and age with pay wave it is simple! I'm not asking you to calculate what we are just divide it by the number who ate! Finally a bad moment at the end of the night with rubbish that they won't split bills next time just makes me not want to come back! Please rethink such foolish statements and made up on the spot decisions.
What it says on the can. A good old English pub. Felt like I could have been in London. Pretty good selection of Aussie beers on tap plus a selection of brews from old blighty available for those who desire a taste of engerland. Had the Aussie Parma off the majority traditional pub menu and it was solid.

Good vibe, tasty food, toasty and warm inside but very slow on bringing out the food. Think it was a problem in the kitchen tho - would go back again.

Went here today for lunch with a colleague. What incredible and attentive service from one of the ladies there. You dont get that very often. Food was great and the place has a nice feel. The cricket was on too which was a plus. Will certainly be back
Enter the front door and head down stairs to a great looking old English styled pub. It's not huge inside but that's what makes it all the more enjoyable as it adds to the cosy atmosphere. The staff are mainly friendly as is the barman and there is a good selection of meals, beers, ciders with good pub sized meals at a reasonable price to choose from. This place is very easy to miss, it's just a doorway at street level, so make the effort and give it a go. I can't go past the Bangers & Mash!

Cosy. When our usual pub haunt was full for dinner we moved along to the Sherlock Holmes. Had been here before a few times for a beer but never eaten there before. Had the steak sandwich which was good quality, maybe a bit pricey. But overall good little place to head down to to have a beer, some good food and watch some sport. Multiple tv's showing various games.
That extra mile. So we came in quite late and the place was quite busy on a weekend night, the chef asked us directly if we were after food(after the bar staff already said they were closed, for he was closing down the kitchen and was more than happy to accomodate, the food was very tasty 9.5/10, portion sizes were great but most of all he cared and made us feel welcome which is uncommon in this city- thankyou we will be back

Impressive. I went there to eat consistantly for the last year and was not impressed over and over again so I stopped showing for the sake of wasting money. last week I went Back. To my suprise the Menu had completely changed.(It is actually now far more pub appropriate,) The quality of food is sensational, portion size was remarkable ( Its what we want in a pub after all) The service was lovely but I will change I will start going back again

A place of character. Close quarter dining, great basement character. Friendly and prompt staff. Good meals and good prices considering CBD location. Meal sizes could be a little bigger.
Wednesday Parma Day. Excellent unpretentious old style pub, the Wednesday $20 chicken parma + drink is excellent value for the quality. Good size perfectly cooked chicken schnitzel, good toppings, excellent fries. No salad in the deal.
Quality Pub. Went to the Sherlock last night with a group of 5, just looking for a nice pub meal and a couple of quiet drinks. This was exactly what we received. We found the place incredibly small though, and it took us 15 minutes before we could get a table large enough for our group.
3 of us had the parma and 2 of us the burger, and everybody was pleased with their meal, I personally thought the parma was exceptional.
Service was friendly, meals were served quick and reasonably priced, and a great selection of tap beer also priced fairly.
We would definitely return.
Fantastic. I love coming to the Sherlock Holmes. The steak is absolutely fantastic with a great salad and fantastic sauce. Place is always busy - drinks are priced reasonably. It is a beautiful little place. Would recommend highly - prices are very good.
A good little downstairs pub that's great to spend some time in regardless of the season. A small (but very good) selection of beers and ciders on tap and a nice twist on English pub food. The Bangers and Mash (chicken and chive bangers) is particularly tasty. A firm favourite and a good place to spend an evening or two with good company.
Wonderful little pub with oodles of character and old taste. A good selection tasty beers on tap & hearty pub meals (won’t go in for the Barra again, though). Their sticky date pudding absolutely hit the spot
Service was really good, food was the type my mum use to cook back in the UK. Only downside was the UK draft beer was way to cold. Brits love there beer 'celler' temp, not ice cold. Apart from that, staff were friendly and atmosphere was just right for the occasion.
Amazing place with an amazing atmosphere. They have a great selection of beers and even better food. I had the Sherlock Holmes Pork Ribs and it was absolute heaven. I'll be definitely going back for more.

After going down the stairs below street level you will feel transported to a old London pub. It's warm and welcoming, the staff are bright and efficient, and the traditional English themed meals are excellent. Generous servings, and value for money. Wide range of beers, ciders and wines. A great environment, suitable for all.
