Last night I tried DOC pizza for the first time. It was takeaway but did not disappoint. It is clear that a Melbourne institution like this sustains it’s good name based on: great service, quality ingredients, immaculately cooked pizzas, good ingredients which have been applied with TLC and delicately placed on each pizza.
What we got and my thoughts on each from top to bottom (sorry for my terrible photography).
Pizza al fungi
Surprisingly my fave pic of the night, everything was so well balanced, this one is particularly good for takeaway due to less ingredients- because this prevents the base going too soggy/floppy.
Pizza Capricosa
A staple which I always order. This was excellent and we got two, but would prefer to order this pizza at the restaurant next time as takeaway always alters the base (makes it slightly soggier) by the time you get it home when there are more toppings - like with a capricosa. Still excellent pizza nonetheless.
Pizza DOC
Basically a fancy margarita, this was excellent and everything you want From a good margarita. Travelled well as takeaway also.
Pizza cornuto
I must admit I didn’t try this one but the group consensus was- excellent!
Would definitely go back to DOC again- hopefully next time in person.
Tried the prosciutto pizza and it was really yum. The pork sausage with broccoli was average unfortunately. Service is great even though the restaurant can get quite packed.
Hands down - the best pizza in Melbourne.
Pay that little bit extra to top your pizza with buffalo mozzarella - you won’t regret it!
The pizza you see in the photo is the Cornuto ...San Marzano tomato, mozzarella, induja, toasted pepper & hot cacciatore salame.
Pizza wasn't soggy, it has good flavor and texture. Service provided was very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
First meal in Australia and man it did not disappoint! Great location, outdoor seating and an amazing wine list!
All pizzas were cooked to perfection with a special mention to the Mushroom with truffle oil and Speck pizza! Service was prompt and wine glass was always refilled! Definitely a must visit to all locals and tourists!

Tried a lot last time and the food was super good. The best pizza I’ve ever tried. I’ll return with friends again just because of the amazing food. I remember it was hard to book the table. The service is just so so, or maybe OK. I understand that they are always busy. They always asked for tips but it should not be compulsory. Anyway, great food and irresistible taste ; )
Gorgeous, authentic Italian pizzas - with premium toppings, sauces and bases. Great service, lovely building and a good drinks list - featuring Italian and local wine.
The food here has been, and will continue to be, some of my favourite. Lovely staff and great staple of the suburb.

The pizza here is the best pizza I have had in a long time, even after a few trips to Italy. The staff were super friendly. The only thing was that it was pretty noisy in the restaurant but that didn’t bother us once our pizza arrived! Also the Doc mozzarella is well worth the extra couple of dollars!
Great restaurant! It gets busy, and there is a little bit of a wait but it is worth it. The lasagne was delicious and the coffee even better. Great dining experience. The Lasagne is highly recommended!
Beautiful pizza with amazing Italian hospitality!
The pizza was wonderful! It was so fresh and every ingredient you could tell was sourced directly and done amazingly! The crust was light and crispy but with the perfect amount of chew, the mozarella was cheesy and amazing, the tomato sauce was lovely and rich! But it was slightly pricey for $25 😰 But for the quality, I can see why it’s justified!
The service was also really lovely and friendly!
If you love a light, crispy, doughy pizza then Doc is your guy! Staff are fantastic, pizzas are delicious, there’s always a vibe and the wine flows. Highly recommend.
I was catching up with an old friend and decided to try out this place. I ordered the tiger prawns pizza, and it was very good. Service was all over the place. It was very busy and extremely loud. It’s not a place you want to go for a relaxing meal. We ended up leaving as quickly as possible and going elsewhere so we could talk. If you want to quickly grab some great pizza, this place is for you.
A high quality pizzeria that is usually full on the weekends with a casual vibe. I do enjoy the pizza here at DOC, however, maybe it was just this experience one time as we strayed away from the classic Pizza DOC but the Pizza ai Porcini had a slimy textured mushroom that I unfortunately wasn’t able to appreciate this time around. Maybe I’ll stick to the classic next time I come back but they do indeed do seriously good pizza.
A bit pricey, but very delicious. Pizza crust is crispy and the pizza itself is so full of flavour and very fresh. Service is average but not bad. Would come again :)
DOC was an Italian restaurant/delicatessen, serving a variety of gourmet-style pasta and pizza. The pastas that we had were pretty delicious; cooked al dente with just enough sauces, topped with a layer of cheese, and each served with a slice of olive oil-infused bread. The ambiance could have been more cosy as its wooden decor felt a little run down, but the outdoor seating area was quite nice especially when the sun was out.
Love this place ♥️ always crave for their Pizzas! Especially with the truffle oil 😌 and extremely entertaining service too. Highly recommended

we came there for my friend‘s birthday party！actually the weather of 2019.08.09 in Melbourne is really gonna frive people mad…but luckily the service here is great and iove the food！Will definitely recommend this to my friends.
The pizza here is undeniably good - thin and crispy base, tasty sauce, perfect cheese. They don’t look like they could fill you up but they definitely do after a couple of slices. The antipasto platter was okay but don’t think it is worth the price, especially because of the portion size. We went on a Friday night and it was very busy (people were lining up outside - lucky we’d made a reservation the day before), and although we enjoyed the liveliness of the place, my group struggled to hear each other over the noise and opted leaving straight after our meals because the noise was unbearable and frustrating at that point. Other than that, I definitely recommend going here, maybe on a more quiet day.
4.5 DOC never fails to surprise, and we are rather glad to have returned for such an amazing pizzas after such a long time.
The authenticity, both in the food and the warm service, made us reminisce of carefree days holidaying in Italy, and this certainly made the experience not only enjoyable, but memorable as well.
I ordered the pizza Margherita for lunch and it was a large pizza. I like the crispy and thin pizza crust. The sauce and topping was also very nice.
It was the first time I have been to DOC but it definitely won’t be the last. I ordered both the Napoletana and the DOC pizza and they were equally delicious.
The ingredients were so fresh and tasty and the base was perfect. They are easily the best pizzas I have eaten in Melbourne. And I was greeted by incredibly friendly staff.
It’s a pity that there is only 5 stars because their pizzas deserved a lot more.
This restaurant has been an institution for years and it continues to be busy with people waiting for tables on most nights. The tables a comfortable but they are cramped so there is very little room and you almost feel as though your dining with the table next to you. The service can be a little cold at times, for a lot of the workers they are trying to improve on their English skills, be friendly and you'll be served with a smile. The pizzas are great, thin crust, not overloaded with toppings but what is there is simply flavorsome and well constructed just like a real pizza should be. We like simply popping in for a quick meal although it will cost you about sixty dollars for two pizzas and two drinks - but its worth it. Oh and leftovers, they are happy to box them up as a takeaway for you.
Food: excellent, probably the best pizza in Melbourne. Soft dough, thin crust, authentic, a lot of toppings. What more can you ask for.

Best Italian pizza in Melbourne!!! Must order San Danielle. The prosciutto is the bomb! Pizza with broccoli paste is nice, but a little salty to me.
My Uber driver from Naples said this was the best pizza in Melbourne, and I’ll have to say the Italians know their pizza. Combine that with excellent service, prompt food, what more could you want? I actually had a movie to catch and they said no problem! They directed us to the pizza special, which was a good choice, but one should always stick with the magherita for consistent comparisons. The dough was excellent, crunchy crust but chewy under the cheese. Amazing. Radicchio salad was fantastic, nice Gorgonzola and thick thick balsamic. Along with the lovely peroni (double malt) which I’ve not tried before, a good wine list, making the movie and being close to where I live, just perfect!
It is always busy, but the food exceeds itself. Every time I come I order something I wouldn’t normally get and it is beautiful each time. The combination of fresh ingredients and pasta is masterful. I love how they change their menu constantly so I always get a different but delightful experience! Brava

Terrible pizza puns aside, the food at Doc Pizza was beautiful. A simple establishment on the corner of Drummond St and Faraday St, their huge variety of pizza options is a near guarantee that there will be something you fancy (if anything, you might find yourself too spoilt for choice and end up with crippling indecisiveness whilst your friends/family look at you in disgust).
My favourite pizza joint on lygon street. Truffle mushroom pizza was the best! Great pizza dough and toppings. Prosciutto pizza the same as mushrooms with additional meat !
DOC never disappoints. Food is consistently well cooked but what stands out is the service. This one time my friend was being real picky and annoying and kept trying different wines and the waiter was so patient with us! Thanks guys
Been going here quite a few times after my trip to Italy. The pizza is amazing and always takes me back there. Toppings are just right and high quality, base is on another level to everything else here in Melbourne. Service is truly Italian, so don’t expect them to follow you everywhere. They definitely know what they’re doing and you just need patience.
We got the capricciosa, San Daniele and Tiger Prawns initially to share (we each chose one). In the end we decided we all liked our own too much to share. I was only able to get off cuts of the other two and they were indeed amazing! But my San Daniele was even more so.
To top it off we got a tiramisu to split between all three of us, we were all quite full after one pizza each! Tiramisu flavours were nice, creamy and flavourful. Definitely rivalled the ones I had in Venezia, which I hope is true compliment to the chefs.
We will be back for sure!
It's good pizza but I think a little over rated. It's something you should try and see what the fuss is all about as it's very popular. Not that expensive for a quality pizza.
The best pizza I have had outside of Italy itself! Amazing gluten free base it is so close to the real deal. It is very very popular so very noisy, but a nice atmosphere. The service is a bit too rushed but with the demand I can understand why. The closest you will feel to Italy in Melbourne.
To be honest， this is the best pizza place I have ever been. The pizza is very fresh and tasty, tops are rich with very thin dough, which is really yum. The interesting thing is all the staff here are guys, it seems like no girls lol, but they are nice tho. Highly recommended. Come back for sure.

Pizza here is pretty good, simple toppings with great flavour, only ever got takeaway as usually too small/ busy to find a seat without a booking.
Never disappoints! Will always be my favourite pizza place in the world!!! SAN Daniele with rocket salad can never go wrong and of course Nutella calzone

This was probably the best margarita pizza I have eaten! Everything tasted really fresh & was reasonably priced! The service was slightly too high touch & I felt like we were getting rushed along even on a Tuesday night! However I will definitely be back!!
I also appreciate Italian food. Who doesn't love pizza and pasta? My impression upon entering here is that the restaurant has that positive vibe. An appealing spick and span dining place and with a relaxing ambiance. Talked about the food here it was very delish but bit pricey for its serving size. Generally, food prices were high but because we were in an Italian restaurant, where dining experience, food options, and tastes were expectedly above average and close to fine dining quality, the prices did match to their standards.
Can’t go wrong with DOC!!! My girlfriend and I discovered this place along Lygon St, it has Incredible pizzas and has this authentic Italian vibe to it, highly recommend 👍👍

One of the best pizza in Melbourne! Good prices and great service. The lasagna was so good! This is so amazing. But the standout here though was the DOP buffalo mozzarella which was silky smooth and wonderfulcreamy. Overall, a really great experience and I highly recommend DOC.

Had this place on my list for a while and I certainly wasn’t disappointed! Had the margherita and it was perfect. The fluffy base didn’t bloat and the ingredients were class. I’ve always thought margherita is the true test of pizza greatness and this passed the test with flying colours! The other pizza was the sausage and creme di broccoli which was also delicious. It was kinda novel having a green based pizza and the chunks of sausage were full of flavour. Would definitely return!
What a beautiful little restaurant , off the main drag of lygon street, this truly authentic restaurant mixed with all Italian staff really makes you feel like you’re sitting in a quaint village in Italy

Best pizza ever in Melbourne! The place is also so cozy and the staff were super Italian friendly. The dough of the pizza is extraordinary. It is soft with a slight crisp and super tasty. I ordered the Pizza ai Porcini and it was super delicious. Especially because I have it with an additional infused chilly oil. Definitely a must to eat!
Still the best pizza in Melbourne!!! Always one of my favourites and goes perfectly with an aperol spritz. Good prices and great service always!

I havent had gooey cheese with lasange and it's an absolute game changer. DOC further smashed it out of the park with their rich bolognese and yummy decadent bechamel sauce.
Just with the nature of mushroom pasta, the mushroom was good but the pappardelle was toooooo noodlely for me so I didn't enjoy it as much :(

It takes something pretty special to stand out from the almost endless number of amazing Italian eateries in Carlton, and D.O.C Pizza & Mozzarella Bar does exactly that. With quite the reputation in Melbourne, it was finally my turn to see what all the hype was about.
After a twenty minute wait (be prepared to wait for a table), we wasted no time in ordering the San Daniele Pizza and the Buffalo Mozzarella Salumi Board, paired alongside a cracking bottle of Chianti.
The salumi board had a fantastic assortment of cured meats including prosciutto, sopressa, and mortadella. The standout here though was the DOP Buffalo Mozzarella which was silky smooth and wonderfully creamy.
Onto the main attraction, the San Daniele pizza. The sourdough base had a great chew to its bite, and was cooked to perfection in the wood fire oven. The tomato base was made from San Marzano tomatoes, which adds an elegant balance of acid and sweetness to the sauce. Each slice was then draped with tender ribbons of prosciutto, and even more of the DOP Buffalo Mozzarella.
Great Italian food is incomplete without an equally great bottle of wine, and we had that base covered too. A bottle of 2015 San Felice Chianti elevated the entire meal with its delicate and medium bodied finish, and its fruity bouquet.
D.O.C really impresses with it's authentic, elegant and out-right delicious Italian cuisine. With high quality ingredients and a buzzing atmosphere, it's easy to see how it stands out from the myriad of Italian restaurants in Melbourne.
Came here for my work christmas party. The food was absolutely delicious and beautiful. The table service was amazing. Best pizza I've had in a long time and I can't wait to come back!

DOC is definitely my favourite Italian/pizza place now. Every meat on the salumi board was delicious and fresh, and the buffalo mozzarella was amazing. The combination of melted and fresh buffalo mozzarella on the San Daniele reflects how much care they take to make everything perfect, and it was so yummy I ate 4 slices. The service was also really friendly. The atmosphere upstairs was lively, as expected in an Italian restaurant, but not too loud. Overall, a really great experience and I highly recommend DOC.
Beautiful pizza, good atmosphere, we tried 6 different pizza but my favorite was the san danielle with prosciutto and the cornuta, the antipasto plate is a excellent option to start

Went there on a Monday night, full house, tables were quite pack together, but friendly staff and excellent pizza in affordable prices. Their speck pizza has everything I like - ham, cheese and lots of wild mushrooms, the pizza dough was softly airy and chewy, enough air pockets in the rim that trapped the heat and moisture! Unbeatable!
