We were given a voucher by our daughter
It was perfect
Cheese and wine matching wqs spot on
The staff especially Madeline were relaxed and attentive
Couldne recommend it highly enough
Will return with our family
Felt like a little touch of France close to home
This place was recommended for us to try and we were definitely pleased we listened. Although small inside, and a little noisy on the Saturday softer noon, the service and ambience of the place was great. The selection can be a little overwhelming if you do t know a lot about Cheese but the staff are there to help. We selected a 4 cheese board after discussing our tastes with our waiter and every cheese was delicious. With a nice glass of wine and endless bread and crackers to enjoy with your cheese, it’s certainly a wonderful experience. Bookings under 6 people is not possible so we had to wait an hour for a table at 3pm on a Saturday Afternoon. Easy to find a nice coffee nearby to fill in the time.
First time visiting and thoroughly enjoyed it! There was so much to choose from. We both had a tasting platter (4 drinks paired with 4 cheeses). The staff were super friendly and I loved how they say with you and explained the different drink and cheese and their characteristics. Overall an awesome experience! I will be returning!
Enjoyed the cheese platter selection for $27 with the barossa valley Shiraz. Our waitress from Shropshire was very attentive & made our dining experience even more enjoyable... So much so that we stayed longer & ordered the delicious cheese fondue with more wine :) highly recommended
We had such a great time here this evening. The choices are superb supported by the knowledgeable, efficient and enthusiastic staff. Great service throughout. Lovely atmosphere for early evening. Highly recommend.
We visited yesterday and had to wait for a call back to get a table. It was totally worth the wait. The staff were super friendly and knowledgable. The cheese was amazing and the wine selection was excellent. Next time I will take a taxi! Can't wait to go back!
Loved MTC , great service, knowledgeable friendly staff, cheese , meats /,terrines, wine all fantastic 😊
Had cheese and sake... so so sake but the cheese was yum and loretta had cheese and whisky... a much better choice! Definitely will return!
Great cheese,great wine, great service.
Been here 3 or 4 times now and does not disappoint.
The cheese and wine flight was amazing and so were the staff. Great experience!
This is my version of heaven. Delicious cheese and wine with passionate staff.
Went there yesterday and had a wine flight and the staff were nice and friendly.
Great afternoon, knowledgeable and friendly staff, awesome food and wine
Something different ! Like a wine and cheese tour without leaving the city! Give it a go if you like wine and cheese 🧀
We were a pretty cheeky and lively group of 5 at Milk the Cow on Saturday - the staff were brilliant! Knowledgeable, friendly and patient. We all had an amazing time. Thank you! Highly recommended.
Yummy cheese and accompaniments as always. Great to seem them supporting local businesses by buying their bread from a baker that's 130m away. Went to said baker to get a loaf after finishing lunch!
Thanks to Tibor we had an amazing dining experience he is a genuinely nice person ,He took the time to not only explain the process of the wine flight and he got to know us a little better! Wonderful place and service overall. Cheers from Singapore
This was my first time as I was given a voucher. Fantastic pairings of wine and cheeses with wine flight.
Will definitely return to try more tastings!
There is nothing not to love about Milk the Cow. Ollie and the team are fantastic, helpful and knowledgeable and food was great value for money. The cheese is divine. Definitely worth a visit. Beware though - you will walk out the door planning your next visit.
Excellent cheese wine and the staff were unbelievably good. Highly recommended
Went yesterday & loved it. What we had from the menu was delicious . Couldn't fault their staff or service.
Nice and relaxing, place is amazing great cheese and coffee and atmosphere.... trying the wines next time for sure!!!!
Amazing! Best cheese I have ever tried and wines! Can't wait to return! Oh, and our waitress! She was just perfect!
Service was fantastic as was the cheese and wine. Thanks for giving me blankets and turning the heater up on the cold afternoon
Visited on a Monday evening with no booking. Cheerfully greeting and seated. Ordered selection to share Baked Brie, wine flight and a farmers board. Delicious!
Delicious cheese. Delicious wine.... What more can a girl ask for? We love this place!! Highly recommended.

A well-known wine bar in Carlton. Very suspicious and love the decorations inside -great ambience. Definitely worth checking this place out if you love wine&cheese :) Grabbed Wine Flight. I don't know much about wine nor cheese but this place just nailed it. 4 different wines paired up with 4 different cheese.. absolutely delicious! Staff were VERY knowledgeable and knew their menu inside out which was very impressive! Must visit if you are into wine & cheese
If you’re looking for good cheese and good wine, this is the place. We love that both the cheese and wine are equally as thought out, and wait staff have exceptional knowledge in both.
The flights are a fantastic option and great value.
We also tried a wine from the last chance wine section, cocktails, cheeses on order, and blue cheese gelato, and all were amazing.
Fantastic atmosphere, highly recommend!
We came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It was busy we had to wait over an hour for a table. Worth the wait though. The wine and cheese flight was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable
Finally managed to check this place out. Called in one afternoon with some friends before our dinner reservation. We tried various cheese flights. Great variety of cheese matches. Definitely have this place on a repeat visit list, and want to try a meal here
We had the deep friend camembert and the mac n cheese - both were delicious and would highly recommend! Staff were very friendly (although it took a while to get their attention at first).
Fantastic place for some nice drink and cheese, love their deep fried camembert, it was sooo good, and their all type of different parings of cheese and wine, sake whisky flight...etc.
We loved 😍
The variety of cheese and wines here is amazing!
The fondue and baked Camembert were delicious. They serve complimentary breads to go with the cheese. Their cured meats and quince were deliciously.
They do wine and cheese pairings also!
Great place for a date night or a girls night out! 🥂
Cheese lovers rejoice - there is a restaurant (well, there’s actually two of them) that has a menu completely focused on cheese - that’s right - cheeeese! I’m talking soft cheese, hard cheese, blue cheese, baked cheese and even fondue. Milk the Cow is no stranger to Melbourne’s food scene - with both their St Kilda and Carlton venues having been around for awhile. But even so, on walking through their doors, Milk the Cow’s atmosphere still has that incredible buzzy vibe to it that you’d usually only find in Melbourne’s latest hippest restaurant that has just made a cameo on Broadsheet.
If you are a cheese lover, this place would be great to catch up with friends or guests in town. They’ve got quite a few cheese selections. My favourite one is the one with the coffee infused. You could also paired your cheeses with wine, sake, whisky, beer, cider etc.
Smelly socks... anytime...
What could be a better place to spend your afternoon, especially Winter times... even if it's smell like your badly odoured socks.
Plenty to choose from or confused you with the myriad of cheese on displayed... the easiest thing to do is just to get one of the guys/waiter to explain what's on offer... go with one of the Cheese flights, can't go wrong, just don't drink and drive. JT-May 2019.
Cheese heaven. Not only good food but a fantastic experience. Every mouthful of cheese was exceptional! The wait staff were brilliant and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was delightful. A must try for cheese lovers
I’m hard to please for cheese so this rating means a lot.
One of the best cheese places I’ve been- and I say that as a huge cheese lover
I will be back for the wine/ whisky pairing
Lovely servers that serves amazing cheese plates. They’re always more than happy to answer your questions and it’s an fantastic place to hangout with your friend/friends.
Absolutely fantastic and unique experience. Was given the opportunity to go here through a Red Balloon voucher to experience the perfect pairing options. The interior was decorated with bottles of wine and had beautiful mood lighting and good selection of music (mostly covers).
The cheese and wine pairing were all flavoursome and distinguished from one another. The highlight of the wines being the fourth selection, a blended red, and the four cheese presented were all so unique and tasty that honestly I can’t even begin to rate them.
The staff broke up each round of tasting with facts about the cheese and wine which helped extend the night and make us appreciate the experience more. My partner and I were both very impressed with the experience, and we left with some cheeses (Swiss Gouda) to take home!
Thank you to the team at Milk the Cow, absolutely faultless night, we will be returning and recommending to all our friends!!!!!
Incredible experience! Loved the cheeseboard, loved the wine, the staff were super efficient and super friendly. Would 100% recommend for a great night out.
Amazing selection of cheeses, friendly and knowledgeable staff, very reasonable prices. Atmosphere is also lovely, if a little on the dark and noisy side. A mile better than anywhere else on Lygon St! Have been here at least a dozen times on my own when visiting Melbourne for work and always leave a little piece of my heart behind.

I was fortunate enough to receive a Red Balloon voucher for a Wine and Cheese tasting and wasn’t sure if it was going to be a good fit for me. One hour prior to arriving, I was stood up (insert pretty damn annoyed), so I came on my own anyway. I arrived on time at 3pm and even though the tasting is upstairs, downstairs was full. Really full. In fact the waiting staff were having to turn away people or ask to come back in 10, 20, 30 minutes. I let the waiter know what I was here for and guided to a chair for a few minutes while things were ready but I’d virtually just sat down when told – let’s go! I climbed the stairs to find the most beautiful room with lots of tables for two each laid out with a platter with cheese and a sequence of wines. Gorgeous. Just so lovely.
Now seeing as I was stood up, the staff said ‘well more cheese for you’ but also let me know that they were happy to pack it into a box for me to take home (which they did at it was beautifully packaged). The lovely Siobhan guided us through two hours of culinary cheese and wine delights. Her knowledge of both came easily and although sprinkled with many adjectives that would make you mouth water, the proof was in the pudding. Each wine matched perfectly with the cheese.
The accompanying bread, crispbread etc. was lovely along with water to clean the palette between tastings.
The ambience, music even that clunky bell that called us to attention all added to a euphoric and memorable afternoon of tastebud heaven. Highly recommend.
There was a door prize which was highly sought after by the end of the two hours. Alas, not for me. Believe it or not, I left feeling very full and a wee bit tipsy but fortunately could walk home.
Would like to add that ALL staff here are the most friendliest, helpful and have a wee bit of a cheeky smile that adds to the charm of the place. Nothing was too much problem and their generous smiles and eager to please manner was a welcome change. Thank you everyone.
Parking in Carlton always comes with some challenges so do beware that you’ll need at least a minimum of two hours if not two and a half. This is not wheelchair friendly but potentially disabled friendly if you use a can or have some other disability where you’re able to climb chairs. I would not recommend this for children.
We were excited to try this cheese heaven! The fit out is really nice and they seem to host small functions. A hens party was due to kick off as we luckily finished off. We started with the flaming saganaki which was perfection and drizzled in booze although a little pricey at $15. The baked Brie with truffle honey and macadamia nuts was so, so delicious although more bread or lavosh is needed to mop it all up. The gruyere fondue was also amazing. It was so cheesy and perfect. Really enjoyed the experience although it’s a little on the pricey side for the size of the dishes.
It's always a pleasure to enjoy the fine cheeses and beverages of Milk the Cow. Today we return to the Carlton store and were instantly greeted on entry even though the server was clearly busy. Picking the bench by the window, we were given menus and water quickly.
I gave them my cheese preferences and said I would like a cheesemonger's board, which they accommodated with ease. We love how they summarise each cheese and beer on arrival. Every item was delicious, paired with a range of breads, lavosh and quince paste.
Highly professional staff giving attentive but unobtrusive service in a modern setting with clever light fittings. The swing chairs add a touch of fun to the big tables at the back. This store feels busier than the St Kilda one but still highly recommended for a great afternoon of indulgence and enjoyment.
Great cheese, great wine and a great place to have a Sunday lunch with mates! The staff were very patient and knowledgeable when we had questions about certain cheeses. Highly recommend
I was made to feel quite special here as the staff were amazing!
We had a voucher for a cheese and cider flight (larger serving) which was quite filling and really interesting. I didn't know which one to eat first as they were all so good and different. I'm a cheese lover and would come back with my girlfriends to try the wine.
Amazing wine and cheese - a spot where you can indulge in both and booze the afternoon away with friends. Great ambience, friendly and knowledgable staff - love this place for all sorts of occasions - date night, girly catch up, birthdays, everything!
Although slightly smaller in space than the St Kilda venue - I love the North Side addition of this renowned 'Wine and Nibbles' to Lygon St.
Great wine, great cheese, what more can a girl ask for? The place also has really nice vibes! Also, the staff are genuinely friendly which made the experience exceptional.
We recently went to a gin and cheese night which was great! We tried 4 different gins paired with cheeses and learnt a lot about each. The whole thing took about 2 hours. The cheeses were very unique so you didn't feel like you were just eating more of the same. Very enjoyable night.
Hello cheese lover heaven! 😍😍😍 this is a must for anyone who loves cheese (and a wine or cocktail pairing). We came here to try bits and pieces off the menu (rather than the wine + cheese pairing). Everything was delicious - only let down was that the Mac & cheese wasn’t quite as cheesy as anticipated & the raclette wasn’t sliced straight off the cheese wheel in front of us. However, loved my fig cocktail garnished with a wedge of blue vein and all over dishes that we tried satisfies all my cheesy needs 🧀🧀🧀 great for a meal if you don’t mind a ‘tapas’ type meal or a catch up over drinks
Excellent customer service, waiters were very welcoming, knowledgeable on cheese (obviously) and had a great sense of humour.
This is the place for cheese connoisseurs. There are a myriad of cheeses from across the world with very elaborate backstories to them.
Anyway, we ordered the Baked Camembert and the three cheese board. I cannot stress how necessary it is to try their baked cheeses. Simply delicious.
Delicious cheese and wine!
However got 2 crafts (not bottled) of sparkling water for the table and was charged $25 at the end of the night!
Our group wasn’t told about of the cost when offered the sparkling water.
Milk the cow is every cheese and wine lovers dream. Reasonably priced for good quality cheese. Perfect matching of wine or beer. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. BAKED BRIE! What more can you ask for? Perfect for a date, drink with a friend or after work stop by.
We went here for a surprise Hens afternoon. The ambiance of the place is fetching, however due to the number of people in a small place it was loud.
The cheese just smelt devine, but due to my allergies, I was unable to eat most of it. Prior to the Hens night I called this establishment to organise what I can eat and the staff member who I spoke to said she’ll organise a vegan platter which will be gluten free, Fructose free and no red meat.
When our table arrived I had to re-explain myself, which I felt it was a waste of a phone call. In the end my dietary needs was catered for. I had the mixed olives, baby pickled cucumbers and a macadamia vegan cheese. I had to ask for gluten free crackers.
Staff are super friendly and easy to talk to however because they were busy (full house), not very attentive.
Overall it was a nice experience and I would come again.
UPDATE:
Came back again for lunch and the experience was even better the second time. The cocktails come with cheese and were amazing! I loved my fig shrub which was accompanied by a blue cheese that definitely enhanced the cocktail. My partner had the espresso flip which was nice, although I probably preferred mine. We ordered the mac n'cheese and deep-fried camembert which were delicious. Also ordered one blue cheese with a platter of pork pie, jamon, chicken pate and anchovy all of which were ok.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
There was a short wait for a table at this busy bar, and then we were transported into a wonderful world of cheese and alcohol! We ordered the 4 cheese cheeseboard (which changes regularly), the truffle honey, prosciutto, chicken brandy and sage pate as well as a variety of beers and wines. The cheeses were all great, but the biggest surprise was the pate which was simply divine! The service is very attentive and knowledgeable, and I can't wait to be back here to try more on their menu. Highly recommend.
Twice visited, twice the fun and deliciousness! First visit included the wine flight (upgraded) plus a full platter featuring pork pie, olives, terrine and quince paste. We didn’t stop there and had thei cognac fondue, flaming saganaki, and Mac and cheese. Thoughtful and enthusiastic service. Fab wine. Indulgent.
2nd time was at MTC’s special Gin and Cheese night. A really interesting and informative, not to mention, delicious, night. Only criticism was that they had the freshest Meredith chèvre on tasting, but when we went to purchase more, they had too low supplies. A bit of a shame.
If your a cheese fan like me this is the place, amazing selection of cheese, the cheese and drinking pairing a great fun and there is a great selction of different types, the staff know their stuff are very help full on cheese and all things cheese related . Latest visit had three different cheese boards with matching wines and the pork pie (this was amazing). The staff changed the cheese to ensure I did not have the same, they are amazing.....
I am obsessed with Cheese so of course this place is a 5/5 . I find any opportunity to visit milk the cow, whether it be dine in or just taking away a platter
Staff are always friendly and helpful/ knowledgeable
Milk the cow at Carlton. Located in the Lygon st and close to all the good restaurants. Great stopover for a quick cheese bite. Highly recommended for the Swiss hotpot fondue with French onion soup. A great combination during the cold winter night. Of course the wine are good match as well. Nice place to hang out with friends.
European vibe in the midst of picturesque Lygon.
A lovely niche bar serving specialty cheese — the baked brie was divine. We look forward to coming back.
Dined here last Sunday and had an amazing time! For a group of 6, we ordered the 5 cheese cheesemonger's choice, baked camembert hot pot and mac'n'cheese hot pot and a few accompaniments. Thoroughly enjoyed the cheeseboard and baked camembert; with very generous top ups of bread.
Service was exceptional as well; super friendly and very helpful!
Will definitely come back to try their other dishes!
Hands down my favourite fromagie in Melbourne with the best service and monthly changes in selection of cheese. Tried cheeses you can never get elsewhere with matching wine. Fav takeaway was the truffle brie and fondue pot. Flight is good for first timers but opt that out if you tried.
Quality spread and reasonable priced floats. Came for the ambiance and stayed for a bottle served by lovely and knowledgeable staff. Can't get much better than this for a classic Carlton evening out.
I met my friend at Brunetti's in Carlton, but couldn't get a table, so he suggested walking across the road to try Milk the Cow. This was my first experience with Milk the Cow.
We both tried the Cheese Flights. I had mine with cider, and he chose wine. Well, it really was a good experience. There are two drinks sizes available, and we chose the smaller 30ml size. I think this is better suited to the cheese serving size that is matched to the drink. The wait staff introduced each of the four wines, matched with each of the cheeses.
Sipping, eating and talking was an excellent precursor to a meal. Subsequently, I took some other friends there. The experience was even better because there was one more person to share the experience with. This time I chose wine, and my friends both chose sparkling wine.
This is an unusual restaurant (well, at least to me), and I recommend trying it.
Lovely ambience! The staff were friendly and helpful, despite the huge crowd! We did the wine paddle with the matching cheeses = delish! Will definitely be back!
Exceptional venue. All the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve been twice now, with Codalicious, and we’ve tried the Cheese and Wine flight (which is awesome) but really enjoyed the Creme da la Crop Cheeseboard - it’s just sensational. Great for a late arvo session.
Great cheeses paired with great beers, wines, gins, whisky' etc. Get a small or large flight and sit down and relax. It is a great post meal excursion.
DELICIOUS! And reasonably priced. I did the bubbles flight and tried awesome cheese all paired with a glass of sparling wine. My friend got a fondue which was delicious to. The service was fantastic, the waiter who took us through everything was patient with our questions and was very knowledgeable! Will be returning
Really nice. Been here a few times. Great cheeses on offer. Not super cheap or filling but cool thing to do. One time, there was 4 of us but everyone craved something different and we ended up doing 4 different "flights" (a different one for each). These are their selection of about 5 cheeses paired with 5 red/wine/bubble/beers. Recommended. Only been to the Carlton venue though.
One of my favourite things to do in Melbourne is sit on Lygon St and watch the world go by with a Cheese Flight from Milk the Cow. Last time I went, my husband ordered the Cheese & Beer Flight (30ml/15g), which at $19 is incredibly good value in my opinion. I usually order the Cheese & Sparkling Flight which is absolutely amazing! Couldn’t love this place more!
YUM! Second time to MTC and absolutely loved it. The service is amazing, cheese is mouthwatering and the wine is delicious - you really can’t go wrong! Will most certainly be back!
After eyeing this place for months, we finally made it here!
Was delighted when they could fit in our group of 5 without a reservation on a Saturday! #win
Heaps to choose from on the menu, we decided to try a bit of everything.
Started off with a bottle of Louis Bouillon Blanc de Blanc, which was an excellent recommendation by the staff.
We had one of the flights - sparkling, to give it a try.
Platter with four cheeses - the smelliest was the best, and the cheese infused with merlot was exceptional!
Baked Brie - oozy and beautifully made.
Will definitely be back for more!
So much fun! And such a classy way to get drunk with Mum and Dad. Matching a cheese to a wine (or beer/cider) 5 time over is probably my new favourite way to indulge.
Hard to get a table without having to wait a while, would be worth expanding in size considering how popular it is.
Great service, lovely ambience outside, fine wines and the Baked Brie (see photo attached) was simply wonderful. We’ll certainly be returning 😋
Absolutely loved this place. Great ambiance, professional and polite staff. Sophisticated alcohol and cheese at a reasonable price. Highly recommend.
Literally the most amazing cheese bar in Carlton! For your first time I would recommend ordering a flight as you get a good selection of wines and cheeses to tickle your tastebuds. Also the fondue is a must order! Really recommend to give this place a go!
Took a friend for her birthday as she is a cheese lover. It was Friday night and busy so put my name on a long waitlist and told it could be half an hour wait. 15 minutes later we were seated. Ordered a cheese and sparkling flight - what a great way to experiment cheese and be educated on different types from around the world! I'm not a massive cheese lover but now I'm converted. Service was outstanding and friendly even though they were flat out. Can't wait to go back and bring other friends. Only one small thing would make it better, to give a list of cheese you are sampling because I've forgotten half of them 😜
A lovely stop on your night out or a great idea for catching up with friends. The cheese flights are a fantastic idea and remove the stress of having to choose your own matching cheese and drink. Had the cider flight and it was satisfying as an after dinner stop for two of us. Saw some of the larger meals offered and they smelled and looked amazing. The place in general has a great vibe going on and every waiter was knowledgeable and passionate about the cheeses on offer.
I love it when the name of a restaurant hints at what it specialises in, and Milk the Cow is an excellent example of that. Yup, you guessed it, it’s cheese, a lot of cheese, a cabinet filled with cheese. Some people might hold the idea of wine and cheese to be a mature adult only activity, and that may be true for some, however I am neither mature nor an adult (where do you draw the line) but it is a pairing that I am quite fond of. Given how decadent it is, my friend and I saw it as the perfect place for some celebration.
I've enjoyed eating here before but tonight was exceptional! It was busy and there was a small mix up with our order, so we had to rush to the movies without dinner. When I returned, the cheese and wine was fast and delicious and the staff treated me so well, waiving all charges. Much appreciated, thank you :)
If you like wine and cheese, you will absolutely adore this place. You don't come to this place for anything else really. MUST TRY! I have been here a few times with a good bunch! We order various cheese and the wait staff reccommend nice wines to accompany them. Delicious!
Milk the Cow was great, the food was amazing and the wine pairing was fantastic and the quality of food was great.
Service was borderline horrible, server didn't know anything about the cheeses or wines, service was slow but once we got the food it didn't matter as again food was amazing!! Would recommend.
It's one of my favorite place for winter afternoons. It's really cosy and offers a great range of cheeses & wines (we liked 3 out of the 4 cheeses on the plate, you can always ask for your preferred variety. After all cheese tasting is really personal) The cheese fondue is prefect to warm up any conversation ;)
Excellent location for a light meal, or rather a hearty cheese meal of you please.
The cheeses they offer are superb. They curate it by having 3, 4, 5 cheese selections. You can also drool over the huge cabinet of cheeses available. A farmer's board is offered which goes very well with nibbling on the cheese. Wine is well matched.
Can easily be very satisfied and filled up on cheese, bread and small goods for about $25 per head (not including drinks) especially if there are a few people to share.
Great decor in the bathrooms, up narrow stairs, 8/10.
Came here for my friends birthday and it was lovely. The service staff were polite, knowledgeable and had lots of great recommendations on what we should order. Ambience was great as well.
I would recommend the baked Camembert, it was the highlight of our meal. Definitely a great place to bring your friends and family visiting Melbourne and for a weekend brunch.
Came inside this place to get warm. They sell waffle with ice cream which turns out to be very sweet. We did not order anything elae so cannot say much.
Milk the Cow is absolutely amazing if you're as crazy about cheese as we are. We have visited on multiple occasions and even celebrated an anniversary here.
Our experiences have been great, the service has not let us down. The times we have visited we have not made bookings however we have only waited once for a table, all other times we have been seated right away. The size of the venue, although cozy and warm, may sometimes feel over crowded with other cheese lovers as it seems to be a quite popular cheese bar.
On our visits we have ordered a wine and cheese flight, a whisky flight and 2 different fondues, the kaas mit wein zu kochen (to cook with cheese and wine, currently our favourite. ) and the figugegl which is cooked with beer and other deliciousness, unfortunately we didn't favourite the fondue made with beer as the flavor of beer was not something we enjoyed, however all the other elements were delicious.
We paired our fondues, which came with some bread and crackers, with probably the best salmon paté we have had so far, some chorizo and prosciutto, all of which we can't speak negative of.
The service on the nights we have visited have always been warming as the staff are always happy to help and also provide you with regional information on what you are eating and drinking.
If you love cheese, this is a place you definitely want to visit, the cost is comfortable and the atmosphere is great.
A 4.5 out of 5.
Shocked the see the rating was not 4+. The staff are all really well informed and happy to answer any questions you have, sometimes a little tricky getting a table but worth the wait - if you like cheese and wine and dates look no further, rltlk.
The place has an awesome environment. The soft lighting is great for a Friday night dinner after work. The service was cheerful, relaxed, and attentive. The cheese and whisky flights are great!
Had fondue and baked Brie, both delicious! Complementary mulled wine also very appreciated and just perfect! Service was impeccable- we will be back!
Update: we returned to this place after a few months, and we are regretting waiting so long to go back! They have now opened an upstairs area, where we were promptly accommodated. Service was once again attentive and friendly. Food was to die for- baked Brie and beer fondue. Most of the people around us had cheese flights (paired with wines) and they all looked so good! We were given a complementary cheese board which was very much appreciated! Wine was also very nice. All reasonably priced. Two very happy customers, planning to return very very soon!
+ Open until late at night (1am)
+ Low price (considering how much you get)
+ Big portion size
+ Great service
We went here twice and both times we ordered a Cheese cheesemonger's platter, 5 different cheese set for $37. Each cheese is generous in size. The place is very flexible with their menu, we substitute a couple of cheese types as we are not fond with hard cheese, which the waiter kindly accepted. We wanted to sample a truffle cheese and they also kindly give us a generous amount to sample. And lastly, you can get more bread (sourdough / breadsticks / raisin) free of charge. However, do not order sparkling water as they charge you $7 for a bottle.
So great concept and cute fit out but limited quality cheese offerings and service was ok.
I ordered the fondue and have no idea what to do and wasn't informed or guided when it came out and the sides a little bit hit and miss. Skip the frittata, waste of money.
Overall. Nice experience as a once off.
Came here for an anniversary dinner and it was excellent. Service was fast, attentive and knowledgeable. Good range of great cheeses for reasonable prices and the paired booze was well selected. Only downside is it's quite a small venue and quote popular so we had a 30 minute wait to be seated. Worth it though!
Great vibe with fantastic customer service. Our waitress had excellent knowledge of the cheeses we ordered, also came very reasonably priced. Highly recommend to all cheese lovers. Will definatey be back

+4.5
Had been wanting to come here for quite a while as I'm a cheese fiend. Lots to offer in the way of cheese variety and are flexible in their 3, 4 or 5 cheese platters. We chose the 4 cheese platter and the baked camambert. Both were outstanding and I will absolutely be back again.
I couldn't speak higher of this restaurant and the wonderful, friendly and detailed manner our waitress had. The cheese and wine made me so happy!!!!
Been to this venue twice now.
Was here for a private event this time and it was much better than my first experience, which wasn't amazing as every type of cheese we wanted they had 'run' out of.
This time we did a cheese and wine flight which was really good having the cheese and wine matched, we also had a selection of cheeses on the table to share with condiments. Overall a redeemed experience!
Went there on a Friday night. Waiters are attentive. The wine flight is good value for money with nice cheeses, although the matching wine is not too much to my liking. The wine I ordered separately is much nicer. Would probably go with cheese board and order my own wine next time.
I had been longing to go to Milk the Cow for some time and after finally getting there I was happy to discover that it lived up to my expectations!
We were lucky to get a table immediately without booking or waiting.
The staff were wonderful and well informed, and the selection of cheese and breads were delicious!
Unfortunately, we were in a hurry so we couldn't stay too longer or order much but it simply means that we will have to return and I am very eager to do so!
Love this place! I like that you get good quality cheese for reasonable price. I've been back a few times and I like how they change the menu every 2-3 weeks.
I recommend getting the small flights, in particular the wine flights. Also take a photo of the menu so after you can see what was your favourite wine or cheese.
Cheese and wine, what's not to love? Great ambiance and a great excuse to have a nibble before dining out in Carlton. Their flights make for an easy decision if you are feeling overwhelmed by their selections.
What a fun experience I had - cheese and alcohol. What a marriage made in heaven! Great concept for those who isn't familiar with what drinks to pair with cheese; or those who just like a decent after-dinner drink with a selection of the finest cheeses that we can have (imported) in Melbourne. Also got none-cheese dishes to share... woo generous serves for the $! Best thing is that you can book! And you must book!!
Came here on a Saturday night. Really good vibes downstairs but we had to wait for a table. We had the option of sitting upstairs for a drink but it was disappointing that you can't order cheese plates or any food upstairs.
The cheese plates here are amazing. Would definitely come back here in the future. Great spot
I've been to the Milk the Cow store in St Kilda but Saturday night was the first time I went to the Carlton store. I went with a meetup group and we ordered the cheesemongers choice package. In this package you get matching wines, an individual cheeseboard and a few other cheeseboards that can be shared on the table. We had 16 people which fit 2 huge tables.
The staff were very professional. They knew how to explain each wine and they were quick to change any of their wines to cider or soft drink when requested.
Please note if you get a package it will already be set up by the time you get there. Plus if someone doesn't turn up or want the package you will still have to pay for it which is advised at booking. I made a huge risk when making this meetup group - I was worried about no shows and the massive cost I might be faced to pay. Fortunately the members are awesome and they all turned up. Unfortunately one member decided she didn't want the package. She thought it was too small, not filling enough and she said she needed to leave very soon. She just wanted a cheap soup. I tried to tell her how I would have to pay for her package, how unfair it was ect. We got management involved and I thank the manager and waitress for dealing with this so professionally and also explaining that she would have to pay for her soup in cash. Luckily my deposit covered her spot and it was only $35 and my other members helped me out as well. I just wanted to say that I was impressed with how patient the manager and waitress were.
A lot of my members were running late because of tram and traffic issues due to the Grand Prix. Thank you once again for letting us wait for most of the members to arrive before explaining each cheese and wine combination and for also explaining the cheese and wine combination to members who arrived later on.
The quality of the cheeses are fantastic. I also love the cute takeaway box as well. It made taking the cheese home quite easy!
Phenomenal! A MUST for any cheese lover. The selections are extensive and the staff are extremely knowledgeable so trust their judgement. I'll be back soon.

I've been here 4 times. I've been too immersed in the cheesy deliciousness to actually write a proper review. If you're a fellow Tasmanian cheese lover suffering from withdrawals, appease your penchant for cheese at MtC. Global range with fantastic wine to match. Look out for the $55 Sunday special; 4 cheese varieties that are ripe for the licking and a bottle of wine.
Absolutely adore this place.
We had our first date here and our 1st anniversary and we hope that bias doesn't bleed in this review.
Could not recommend getting the flight boards enough. The staff will walk you through selections and pairings if you're up for something different or if you're after a specific type of cheese.
An absolutely gorgeous venue with caring and passionate staff. Absolutely big shout out to the venue management for having a cohesive front house as well as whomever does the stock for your store.
We'll be back December 1st and hopefully a couple of times in between
Over from NZ we discovered this and loved it, what a great concept. Service was informative and prompt. Both started with the cheese and wine flight and finished with the fondue.
Had the cheese and wine flight and it was really lovely. The portions were ok, perhaps could of been a little more generous on the cheese but then again I do have a weakness for cheeses and I just wanted to devour the whole cheese filled back counter! The wines were gorgeous and we ended up ordering more cheese and wine after we polished off the little smorgasbord in front of us. Our sommelier was helpful with a capital H! Offering different wines to match with the blue vein cheese we ordered, he was great. Just writing this review now makes me want a wine and cheese!! Go and check it out, it is an experience not to be missed.
Had a great time here with friends! Ordered the 5 cheese platter with some prosciutto, the grundlegend fondue and the baked camembert and really enjoyed them all, especially the baked camembert. Good value (generous with extra bread/crackers!) and impeccable service which made it a lovely experience. We were served by a lovely man from Montreal who humoured all our questions, taught us a lot about the background and detail behind the cheeses and was super helpful and entertaining and really went above and beyond. Very, very impressed with the excellent service provided and was a really interesting and tasty experience trying all the cheeses! Would highly recommend.
Pretty great experience! Our first cheese platter tasting, if only we had the sophisticated taste and the enjoyment for wine as other people do so it can go well with the cheeses! I say it's a BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!! We ordered the 3 pieces of cheese on the board for $27. The portion may look small, but a little goes a long way when you are spreading them out. We had it with prosciutto, 14 month smoked Ham (I forgot), onion and fig jam (so good!! It's like sweet but oniony taste) and salmon pate (which was smokey and salty). It also came with another jam on the cheeseboard which went with the cheeses. Service was wonderful and staff was well educated on their cheeses, they explained us a bit about their background on the cheese we ordered. It felt very intimate. Can't wait to try the fondue next time.
Nice selection of wine and amazing cheeses, as far as food I tried the mac'n'cheese which was quite tasty but very different to the gooey american style of the same dish - a la Rockwell & Sons - which would be my preference. I will definitely go back to try the cheese flights and fondue.
Milk the Cow had an amazing variety of cheeses and wines. We ordered the 4 cheese cheeseboard which was customisable to our liking with the help of a friendly, knowledgeable staff member. The dim lit, wooden themed fromagerie was cosy (loved the swing too!) despite being so packed inside. The service was a bit slow - could be due to how busy they were, but overall it was such a great experience!
If you love cheese like I do then this place is the best. Wish I hadn't eaten before because I'd try order everything, it's incredible, friendly and well informed staff and great range of options for the cheese. Really nice atmosphere with limited wine menu. I know I will be returning to order more off the menu, the baked camembert is delicious.
Love love both venues but always get drawn to the lygon street more so but both equally good. So much variety of cheeses and the wines to match are great. Awesome staff!
Nice wine bar and def recommended. Wine selection was good, just not a big fan of the rosé and in a tasting mix. Cheese selection also tasty and mixed! Only comment would be that Gruyère is pretty average to put on a board in my opinion. Still very good tasting overall though :)
Seen reviews about the service, but they were really nice and quick with us, we sit outside because they were fully booked inside, but they quickly set the table and brought a heater. The tasting have good value. Good place to go for a date.
Exceptionally fun and lovely place. Staffing levels are low at the moment (Afternoon visit, Saturday, May 22), so sit inside if you want reliable service.
Food and wine pairings were excellent, but did take 40mins to reach us (we were outside), second drink order did get missed and it took an hour to find this out.
Saying that, I will definitely visit again, 1 busy service did not negate the overall impression.
We ordered a degustation for one menu each. The meal started of with a sparkling flight. 3 cheese paired with sparkling wines. Starting of with a light cheese to a stronger bitey cheese.
The meal then proceeded to a fondue. Mixture of 4 cheeses. Presentation is pretty and is evidenced by the pictures accompanying. This is paired with a white wine.
Next up is a baked brie. Melting brie paired with fresh fruit and honey. It is very creamy and decadent. By this time, the both of us were really stuffed with cheese.
The degustation ends with an espresso Martini and cheddar with the rind soaked in espresso.
By the end of the night our belly was full of cheese and also filled with alcohol. The degustation for one can easily feed two person in my honest opinion.
Got the 5 cheese board, all of the cheese were delicious, waiters were very friendly! And they have a wide range of wines we got the sparkling wine was good, will be back soon for sure!
