A friendly and cozy spot. The hot churros are great.
Only had a cappuccino there but they even served a little churro alongside and the churro was so yummy! đ friendly staff; we sat outside and the weather was perfect and it was honestly such a good day! Would come back to try the food :)
My score 4.0 stars. I had a solo lunch here on Thu 5th Mar. J had a lunch platter special here some time ago â she really enjoyed the selection of items and said it was extremely tasty and filling. Unfortunately that choice isnât available anymore, so I chose al la carte. Service was nice and friendly, and I got good advice on what to choose. I had: Mushroom croquettas ($10) - Yummy, really flavoursome. They had a slightly spicy sauce on top, which I thought was a touch too strong for the creamy mushroom flavour. I would have again and ask for no sauce. Mussels ($18) - Scrumptious. A big serve, some nice heat from either chilli or paprika. A few peas, some roasted red capsicum, bread for mopping the tasty juice. Great flavour and balance. Yummo! 1 glass of Albarino ($10) - Good, nice varietal character with a touch of fruit sweetness (but finishing dry).
This place is just amazing! The staff were fantastic. The food was amazing. The seafood paella was perfection. The churros were absolutely fantastic. This was an awesome meal in Melbourne.
Having finally tried all three Simply Spanish locations in and around Melbourne, our favourite remains to be the store at South Melbourne Market. While this visit was for the most part enjoyable and the dishes were tasty, it was by no means spectacular in any way.

Walked in slightly a bit late for their breakfast menu but their food was so delightful, that we ended up being pretty happy.
What we love: Grilled Calamari, Fresh Mussells, and Spanish meatballs
I canât start without mentioning the staff, absolutely beautiful people, so sweet and kind. In combination with amazing coffee and churros it makes it the perfect mid morning stop after a stroll around the markets.
We had tried the seafood paella from The Queen Victoria Night Markets and it was really delicious and flavorful! The mussels were fresh and the rice itself had a nice kick!
Stumbled across this gem just after lunchtime today. We were drawn in by the large crowds, both inside & out enjoying a range of amazing food. We were welcomed and seated promptly. The staff are attentive, warm and polite. The service is impeccable. The only thing better is the food. Generous portion sizes. One main could easily be shared between two. Lots of seafood in the paella. We ordered far more than we could eat. Even the coffee was excellent. Will be back!
Voted the best paella outside of Spain! This is their city store close to the famous Victoria Market, the original is in South Melbourne Market. Itâs very busy and always full of people, but the food is worth the wait. I highly recommend their original âbig panâ paella, washed down with a red sangria.
While shopping at QVM, grabbed a coffe and churro for take away. Really good spanish coffee and tasty churro. Hope to try more food from this place.
I can not express my love for this place enough. The food is outstanding, large size, and itâs inexpensive. The paella was so filling, and every bite was like tasting heaven.
The calamari tapas looked fantastic when it first appeared and did not disappoint when I tried it. It was cooked to perfection. I sat outside and all the passerby would look and murmur how delicious it looked and smelled.
One of my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. I highly recommend.
Update: Still taste great. But I am a bit disappointed in the portion size. From my last trip to Melbourne in 2018 (yes it has been a while), the paella size has gone to a smaller pan + the calamari wasnât as big. It was still delicious though :)
Cute little eatery on the outside of Queen Victoria markets. Service during our visit was friendly & efficient.
We ordered the mushrooms on toast with eggs & goats cheese & the avocado & hummus on toast with eggs. Both were delicious & great value. We also ordered sides of bacon & these were really generous for the price.
Coffee was well made. Like that you can see the kitchen from the restaurant.
Donât often rate anywhere a 5 as thereâs always room for improvement, but we really enjoyed everything about our visit.
Ordered the seafood paella on Europa night market. Lines were really long however food smelt so good i had to wait. Once food was ordered though it was served within minutes. So much flavour and great texture
Nestled in Melbourne's historic Queen Victoria Market, Simply Spanish QVM is a fun, relaxed space to enjoy a delightful Spanish fare. Let a creative breakfast menu greet your morning, before a daytime offering of delicious tapas and paellas encourages diners to graze the afternoon away surrounded by the bustling market life. And sangria? Yes. There's plenty! Now open for dinner!
Walked past simply Spanish and gave in to the great vibes and temptation.
The food, however, was not what I hoped it would be. The chorizo and chicken paella was extremely salty - just too much salt for a dish which already has got salty ingredients such as the chorizo. The quantity reflected the high price but it wasnât the best paella Iâve had. Less seasoning would have made this dish a winner!
The meatball appetizer was alright. The sauce however could have been better. But I wouldnât mind it again because the bread was awesome.
The place is worth a visit, sitting in the midst of a large crowd passing by during Sunday brunch. If only the food was better. At least it wasnât bad.
At the night market last night and was able to enjoy this well constructed beef dish. Great flavour given in was made at the stall. Beef and chickpeas a great combination
Super cute staff. Super tasty Affogato ^^ with crunchy hot churro.
What a wonderful morning from the view of this cozy small Spanish cafe.
Lovely...
Delicious!! Lovely staff, great spot out the front (weather permitting) and great food! We had 2 tapas to share and a paella which was enough for lunch for the two of us. The paella was the best Iâve ever had! Will definitely be back!
The breakfast menu is brilliant bacon eggs and cheese are done fantastically . Location is perfect to not miss it. Lunch tapas menu isn't half bad either.
My experience here was a little worse than the South Melbourne store, albeit not a bad one. Spanish hot chocolate (served with a churro) was great. My meal, the claypot eggs, was really nice but maybe slightly too sweet - I was struggling towards the end of it because it got a bit overpowering. They also took ages to bring our meals out, like 25+ minutes, which isn't great when they're not very busy, you're starving, and there's a lot of instant street food around. However, my experience was still a pleasant one overall.
This restaurant is in the hot spot of Victoria market , amazing feel around the street .. loved the food, went for breakfast .. it tasted yummy .. loved it totally . The hot coffee with the fresh churro was yum đ.
Do visit here when feeling like having a good breakfast with some shopping around the street and market.
And #paella# the best it was which we tried in the night Victorian market at there food stall..
Cute Spanish joint in the midst of everything else going on at Victoria Market!
Reservations welcome. Service great.
Food: Spanish meatballs are awesome, seafood paella amazing! Croquettes on special weâre soft and melted in your mouth!
Have celebrated birthdays here for groups of 6-8 and theyâve been super accommodating!
This is place is located very near Vic market which is great for a after shopping lunch. I rarely treat myself to Spanish food, in fact this was the first time I had their paella đ„. Similar texture to a risotto but the flavour is completely different. The saffron aroma was very strong and close to being overpowering, seafood was fresh! Service was quite great, our waitress especially was very friendly and helpful making me want to visit this place again. I also liked how they have a little place where they make paella outside so you could see the process.
The paella dish served up was small but it was rich so a little did go a long way.

Came to Melbourne for a weekend workshop so grabbed the chance to visit the QV Market. Prior to the exploration, we chose to have lunch at this Spanish eatery as the first thing to do after arrival. Fortunately, we have booked our table, otherwise we might need to queue for the room. Since the paella was cooked to order and it took around 25 minutes, we ordered the Market Fresh Mussel as the entrée and the Paella Mixta for the main to share between two of us. Loved the mussels. They were so fresh and were done just perfectly with juicy meat. The sauce of tomato. garlic, herb and wine salsa just matched well to deliver a marvellous tasteful sauce that we could not stop ourselves to dip the bread in and even used the empty mussel shell to get the spoonful sauce from the dish till the last drop, BRAVO! By the time that we felt missing the mussels when we looked at our empty plate, the paella came in on time. Wow! It looked spectacular, mussels, prawns, chicken and pork all fit in the pan, which was still very hot. Took a spoonful of rice to taste immediately, it tasted very delicious. We could see the chef prepared the paella with care and the rice on the bottom was perfectly cooked without burnt, otherwise would leave some bitterness behind. After squeezed the lemon juice on the top of the paella, then we carried on our culinary journey by mixing all the proteins with the rice and enjoyed the paella deliberately. Wow, my other half nearly broke in tears because she said it was the best paella that we had so far in Australia. It was rustic but authentic. That is the food that we needed to have every day in our lives.....Thank you for the team. We will definitely return.
So far the best Paella we have eaten in Melbourne, we had at the Wednesday Night Winter Market at Queen Victoria. Portion was quite big and filling for the price one pays.Â
Would like to visit their actual eatery for another round of nicely cooked, perfectly spiced and freshly prepared Seafood Paella.
Visited this petite eatery tonight and everything was simply top-notch. Didn't get to take photos of everything we ordered because we were too excited đ but absolutely loved every bit of the paella, the mussels, the calamari, the salmon, the prawns and even the potatoes! Superb customer service. Great flavours yet very light and clean. Definitely recommend đđ»
Great place to go for Spanish food. Their Market Hash (poached eggs with hash) was simple and done to perfection. Their Spanish Hot Chocolate though, wow, is just so divinely thick, rich and just so chocolatey. It's definitely a must-try! I don't really like intensely-bitter hot chocolates so this one was just so right for me.Â
Their lunch menu was slightly lacking. We had the lunch special and their garlic prawns were good enough. I once had to wait thirty minutes for the big Provincial Paella to be ready because the times it's ready vary from day to day. It was sadly lacking in flavour and was just a little on the bland side for me.
U could see two big pans full of paella outside of the restaurant. I picked the seafood paella. The paella here is very wet and sticky. It tasted nice but after sometime i kind of feel bored. They have a Very nice interior though. All of their staff seems to be able to speak Spanish, i heard them communicating with each other in Spanish.
I used to go there all the time years ago until I got waited for nearly an hour. I wrote a bad review and thought I would never return. Years later, I went again, and yes I would come back again. Service was beautiful, the breakfast was fantastic. Lovely bread with fragrant olive oil, coffee was great with a little Churro on the side.
Simply Spanish is simply good! Didn't manage to order any tapas as I was only craving for some good paella. Generous portion and full of flavor, the paellas served here are truly tasty. If you come at a right time, you will be able to eat the paella cooked in an extra big pan!
Great food recommend the chicken Paella!
Great service people seem to love working there! Award winning place and it gets top marks from me
So delicious! Ever since my sister told me that Simply Spanksh won the competition for the best paella outside of spain, ive wanted to come try! I finally got to go tonight and was not disappointed! The food was delicious the staff were so friendly and helpful and helped us with recommendations! We tried some tapas dishes, the garlic prawns (so good!) and i loved the pork belly too (so tender and i loved the apple sauce!)
The sangria was delicious too, loved it!
And then the paella! Because we had a biggish group, we were able to order one of each type and so i got to tried many different types! They were all delicious! The black squid ink one was one i liked in particular! Nice flavour and the black looked very unique! I loved the churros for dessert too!
Great place! Its small but cosy and a really charming place!
Simply great food! The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, and together with super friendly and genuine service, this place has a great vibe about it. The Tapas is Australian tapas sizes with prices to match, but all that we tried were a hit, including fried goats cheese balls (little balls of heavenly goodness!), beef cheeks (delicious, tender, melt in your mouth), patatas bravas (generous serving but perhaps they could consider increasing the dip or covering the potatoes instead of a dipping source), and tortilla (tasty and plentiful). Happy hour drinks 3-6pm really adds to the lovely experience. We had an absolutely beautiful jug of red sangria, followed by an incredibly well made expresso Martini. We can't wait to return and try the vegetarian paella!
Cozy environment. Not a big restaurant, but enough for food lovers. Nice service and tasty food. What could I want more! Recommend the sea food paella:)
Cozy little place! And really friendly staff, I love the service here;)
We came here for lunch and ordered the lunch deal with churro. Everything was delicious and beautiful, we especially fell in love the tapas today... And the churros were nice as well, crunchy from outside and soft from inside. Overall speaking, very satisfying experience;)
Services are really wonderful!
Attentive and welcomed!
A cozy restaurant just outside the QVM!
Seafood pallea is just nice to share between two people. Variety choices of tapas!
Tried the meatball and I personally feel it could be more tomato in it to make the flavor stronger.
Just be prepared to wait for 20 minutes for pallea, but it worth waiting!
Will come back!
Wanted to try their paella long time ago and finally came here and ordered the lunch deal. Overall, the food tasted good, but the meatball maybe a bit too soft to me. The staff were really nice and helpful, this place is definitely worth going.
Came here for their famous paella lunch deal. My friend and I tried the $19 lunch deal which comes with paella, potato tortilla and a choice of either sangria or churros.
The food and serving size are satisfactory. The paella is worth trying. Also, service is really amazing!
The place is pretty small so do make a reservation during peak hours.
Tapas entree of crochets and pork belly were great. Seafood paella was very good but would have been even better with some veggies in with the rice. Chicken and chorizo paella was ok. I'd come back again.
Had this in the night market at Queen Vic.. we chose this simply because it was said in their banner 'award-winning paella'. And i have to say, they totally deserved it! Seafood paella was rich in flavour, spicy, and the rice was cooked to perfection. Also loved to see how they do things in the kitchen.. â€
My partner and I stopped by this restaurant after having been to the Queen Victoria Night Market. The restaurant is quite small but the staff were very friendly and accommodating.Â
We ordered the Gourmet Seafood Paella to share between the two of us and I ordered a Lemon Lime Bitter. We were already pre-warned that the Paella may take a while (it took about 20 minutes) but when it did arrive, we were surprised about the serving of it. There was definitely enough for two people and there was a generous serving of seafood including mussels, prawns, pippis and 2 large scallops.Â
I also had 25% off the bill using my Liven account which made the night even better. Despite that, I would recommend this restaurant if you're nearby and craving some paellas. The pricing is quite decent and the portions are great.
If you have walked past the Elizabeth St side of the Queen Vic Market during lunch time, your nostrils will have no doubt been greeted by the tantalising aromas of a tasty paella. You can thank Simply Spanish and their bargain-priced lunch time big pan paella offering for that! While I have yet to try their lunch time chorizo, chicken and seafood paella ($10 peeps!), I did get a taste of it with another one of their paellas at dinner a few weeks ago. I received an invitation to dine at the restaurant, and I would like to thank Simply Spanish and SK Consulting for this opportunity.
Called in for a quick meal before a meeting nearby and was wrapped with everything. Service was great. Food was served super quick and the quality was terrific. Menu had some good choices without overly relying on seafood. Definitely returning another time in future
Nice convenient place for a quick spanish lunch around victoria market. A dish of paella from the big pan was $13 and there was a $19 lunch special which includes a bowl of paella, salad with a piece of potato tortilla and a glass of sangria. The salad was fresh and the tortilla was nice. Just the texture of the paella was a little bit too soft to me and I prefer the sangria with more fruit flavour in it.
Overall the lunch special was really good in value and the service was very efficient.
With a firm ethos on using seasonal produce and going local where possible, the restaurant creates food which is fresh and delicious. Paellas are prepared daily in giant pans alongside heart-warming tapas with influences from all parts of Spain. We started with some beautiful tapas. The Garlic Prawns were wonderfully fresh and cooked in a traditional Spanish method with crushed garlic, olive oil and a hint of chilli. The Braised Beef Cheek was superb and incredibly tender having been slow cooked for six hours. Served on a bean and potato purée with a luxurious Pedro Ximenez and sun-dried raisin reduction, it was delicious.
Very generous portion... Tasty and authentic Spanish dishes.
Thanks to Dimmi half price special, get to come here twice with my friends. We absolutely enjoyed the cured salmon, and paella... Sangria and peanut butter dessert is to die for..
Lovely little place to stop by for a quick lunch. The $10 paella is a great steal, worth a shot!
Beef cheeks were spot on and Portuguese tarts were not bad either.
We came here at the beginning of the year in January and the food was absolutely delicious. One of the best tapas style food I have had in Melbourne and despite the small servings we ordered a few things and found it quite filling and satisfying. It's lovely sitting outside in the summer time, it's a small restaurant but it was great! Definitely recommend
Ordered the exact same thing as I did in South Melb Market (big pan paella, chorizo, meatballs, chicken cazuela) for some reason it does not taste as good here. I went when there's a promotion for big pan paella, it was only $10!
Good paella and sangria set for $15. Friendly service and vibrant staffs. Cosy atmosphere. Don't mind coming back for the lunch paella special.
Nice food. I have still to find a restaurant that has the flavours, textures and colours of the food in Spain, but this one does a good job at replicating Spanish food. Really remarkable if one takes into account that this is a chain restaurant .
Their paella, which is the trademark of the house, is lovely, well prepared but a bit bland in flavour, needing of a proper sofrito and seasoning. I would like a few different paellas being prepared at the same time, as they have three paella pans on the stove. Of course, you can order one if you want, and they will prepare it for you and wait until they do so. You can see the guys cooking the paella in front of your eyes, something that I always love, and there is always a paella ready for you to munch on, which a bit hit with me, if I am starving.
Their tapas are yummy, but quite pricey and diminute. Usually, there are three pieces on the plate. I have tried several and my super-favourite was the deep fried balls of goat cheese on a beetroot bed, which I had the last time I visited. Absolutely wonderful. Their tortilla de patata pieces with anchovies was a big miss with me. Mostly because of the tortilla. Despite the tortilla being something easy to prepare, getting a one one is not that easy. A good tortilla has a golden outside, and is never brown unless it is badly done or have been reheated.
They have a decent chart of wines.
The staff are lovely and very welcoming, but service in general can be distracted. During my first visit, the staff forgot (twice!!!!) to put the cutlery on my table despite me being the only person launching inside. So I had to get up and grab them myself from their cutlery area. They were too busy... talking. I was the only person eating indoors that day as it was a late lunch for me.
Overall a lovely place to enjoy Spanish food. If you are looking for authentic flavours you might be disappointed.
After reading all the reviews on Simply Spanish from customers' point of view, I thought that it would be helpful for Urbanspoon's customers to have an opinion from someone behind the scenes.
I am Dee. I have been working for Simply Spanish for 3 months and I am in love with the place.
Contrary to the sound of the name, Simply Spanish is anything but simple. The Family atmosphere that you can breath as soon as you enter the restaurant is the most important ingredient we like to use in every single dish.
As one of our blogger wrote, our "tiny little place" has got seven tables inside and eleven outside that in busy days we try to duplicate to satisfy a major number of customers that want to enjoy a nice meal with us.
We put love in our food as well. Lots of our customers know it well. Our two chefs, Amit and Augustin, are anything but inexperienced and always try to make our dishes "fly out of the kitchen at a pace that would see Gordon Ramsey work up a sweat!"
And YES, We also have coffee! Fantastic coffee! From lattes to Cappuccinos, Mochas, Flat white and our most popular: the Spanish chocolate. You haven't had a Spanish experience if you have never tried our churros served with Spanish chocolate and a hint of sugar powder.
We also have little cakes you can enjoy with your coffee and our home made mixed berries muffins that will make your day a special day!
Our staff is mainly Spanish but we like to keep it International.
Juan is from Argentina and would like to become a famous comedian. Angi is from Spain, she's studying design and she loves teaching how to dance Macarena to youngest customers. Daniel is from New Zealand and he would like to join the army one day. I'm Dee, from Italy, with a great passion for Spanish food and coffee. My dream is to make our customers happy.
And that's what Simply Spanish is all about :)
Stumbled across a gem. Great food; good service.
Shopping at Vic market and needed some breakfast to make sure I didn't buy too many trays of meat. Food was good - great flavour from the hash tomato creation and the chorizo was great(chorizo is a personal fav). Added bonus was the great service on a busy morning. I recommend it and would go again.
Delicious breakfast. Lovely breakfast options with helpful service and good coffee

Wow! What a gem. The best thing about writing this blog is the fact that I am forced to leave my comfort zone, take risks and try new things. This week that really paid off. Last week, as we know, not so much.
