I never write reviews, but Kisumé was just
amazing! The food was spectacular and the service was great (our waitress took our drinks off the bill because she said it took too long to make my cocktail). From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere was perfect - chairs were comfy and there was no loud overbearing music so we could have a proper conversation. The food came out quickly and waiters were always within proximity to ensure we had everything we needed. You can tell a lot of thought went into creating a beautiful space with an ambiance offering a superb dining experience. By far one of the best places I’ve been to! Thank you for making our Valentine’s Day a special one!
Fabulous food and outstanding service. Loved the easy vibe downstairs.. Uni sushi and the chargrilled chicken thigh (chilli daikon!!) were highlights for us, though every dish we chose was amazing. Ps Yuzu sake is heaven in a glass. Well done
Reached early so went upstairs to the bar and had a (warm) sake...to me the only way to drink sake!! The edamame accompaniment I ordered was excellent with its charred spices.
Then to dinner and we had a bunch of the small plates...the freshness of the ingredients came thru every time and the plating was perfection.
Amazingly for an Asian oriented restaurant, the desserts were great....the pineapple served 5 ways was to die for!!
Splurge a little and do the private dining Chefs Table upstairs with Chef Moon. You won't be disappointed. Bookings are a must and recommend you go with 11 other friends
Exceptional! Some of Australia’s finest produce served to our table by a samurai of Japanese cuisine. An eye for detail intimately shared with each diner. Beautiful.
The best food and service. Awesome management and staff....made our anniversary so special with great surprises.
Could not fault the food in this restaurant. Absolutely outstanding attention to detail, the flavours were amazing and staff brilliant. Highly recommend.
Amazing table service, such friendly staff that really help make fine dinning more approachable
The banquet menu makes it easy for those who can’t decide what they want to indulge in
The food was amazing! Fresh, beautifully presented and very filling
The Wagyu melts in your mouth and the cos salad adds a beautiful fresh crunch to clean your pallet
Can’t wait to return here again!
Came here for my birthday dinner and surely wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere of the restaurant was sophisticated yet cozy and the level of attention from the staff was out of this world. The food itself was worth the price in my opinion. A must try at least once in your life.
Dined here for my birthday last night with the $125pp set menu and had an incredible experience.
The service was professional and attentive, with each dish explained to us as they served it. The ambience is classy, modern and clean with moody vibes.
The strawberry cocktail was my favourite cocktail I've had in a long time. The strawberry vodka with plum wine, almond and egg white tasted heavenly. We enjoyed each dish. The tuna dish was so unique to anything I've ever had, and the sashimi was perfectly fresh. The fish was perfectly cooked. The desserts were presented beautifully and tasted even better.
I honestly couldn't fault a thing - this has to be my new favourite restaurant in Melbourne!
We dined at the Chef’s table. Incredible food and service by our main chef. However the supporting wait staff were not very professional (e.g. a hot towel was provided at the start of service, and then wasn’t removed from the counter for the entire service). There were also a number of small fruit flies around the counter the entire meal - not the cleanliness I would expect for a restaurant where you pay $200 per head
Had an amazing dinner last night here! Nice ambience & cozy. Chef explained each dish briefly & it tastes really amazing. Cheerio!
OMG. This place, food, service, everything (except price tag) was to die to. But even the price was worth it on a special night out with my daughter who appreciated it as much as I did.
⭐️ 4.5/5 stars -
🍇 Food - we got the set menu for $88 pp, I thought this was great value for money as we were completely stuffed afterwards and there were so many dishes included. The dishes were all cooked really well and I enjoyed each and every dish. Some highlights for me was the steak and kingfish. The sushi box was also amazing and the sashimi was very fresh.
🍉 Service - service was a hit and miss in some areas, the waitress constantly came to check up on us, filled up our water and so forth. However, there were a few times for example, when the waitress helped poured the soy sauce and she spilled some over the table but she did not wipe it even though we knew she spotted it or often right as we finished the dish, the waitress would come immediately to take it away often making us feel a bit rushed.
🍓 Ambience - kisume has a very dark interior with dim lights. There are chef tables where you can watch the chefs prepare the food or normal dining tables which you can pick as an option.
We came to Kisume for my birthday on a weekend. I chose the 15 piece sushi omakase. We were promptly seated at the sushi bar and given the menus. The atmosphere at the sushi bar area was great - relaxed and buzzing with activity. Each piece of nigiri put in front of us was better than the next. The seafood was very fresh and the nigiri made well. The chef explained each piece of nigiri as he placed it down on the plate for us. Each bite was heaven. I was so sad to come to the end of the course! The service was excellent and so was the food. I am excited to come back next time to try the other levels in the restaurant.
We came here the day after Valentine’s Day and ordered the Valentine’s Day tasting menu for $150pp. The overall experience was fantastic and we loved the food and ambience. Our favourite on the menu was definitely the crispy wagyu truffles, followed by the hazelnut dacquoise. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The experience took around 2.5 hours and we never felt rushed during it.
We were delighted to have the new years special menu. The Omi Wagyu was tender, the hazelnut Dacquoise was soft, flavoursome and balanced. The best part was the assorted nigiri and sashimi in a nice quaint sushi box. The fish was well cut and very fine. It melts in your mouth.
I had booked the sushi counter to do the sushi Omakase, but it happened to be Chinese New Year so they on a special menu with auspicious prices like $88 and $188. Decisions decisions!
It was especially difficult given how much food our neighbours were getting and the CNY menu seemed really generous. However with the price point we decided that we were not likely to be back for a while and it was worth going all out and may not necessarily get a booking at the counter next time as the maximum party size is 2.
As expected, the omakase is never good value so to speak as you are paying for the experience, but we did get away feeling quite full. The service was not as I had expected given the price point - the sommelier took quite a while before he came to us, but did recommend a sensibly priced Chablis (which seem to be the flavour of
the month with matching Japanese food). The wine itself was an excellent recommendation.
I also would have thought at that price point, sparkling water is complementary (you of course never know this - big trap) but it was $12!! a bottle.
As for these meals, you are assigned a chef who makes and introduces you to all the food. I felt that it was a bit rushed; it was a busy night but it was as if the next course
was served as soon as the last one was eaten. Add in a couple of additional bonus courses and the food came thick and fast.
The sushi itself was absolutely impeccable in presentation and taste. I've done a
similar thing at Minamishima and I thought it got a bit same same. However, the
order of the courses was wonderfully constructed so there was a lot of variety and
each course contrasted from one to the next.
Overall, I would come back again to try the set menu, or come back next year during
CNY to try the special. If Omakase is your thing it's a good place to do it too; but it's
certainly a once in a few years experience.
Quality food. Attentive wait staff. Somewhat over priced but making the most of a good name so costs a bit more.
Kisume is the perfect place to spend your Saturday night! They have amazing Japanese food which is so fresh, full of flavour and tasty! The bento box is one of our favourites. They also have lots of gluten free on the menu! The bar upstairs is really nice & has a great fitout! We love going to Kisume!!
Tasty food and great service.
BEST RESTAURANT I’VE BEEN TO IN MELBOURNE..... maybe it’s because I love japanese food but honestly I was so impressed by the ambience, the service and the food!!!
The aesthetic and food quality of this restaurant is amazing. Restaurant was a bit difficult to find but don't we all like a hidden gem? Best dish is hands down the wagyu truffle that was cooked to perfection.
Dined at Kisume on Saturday evening. Very modern, clean, sleek restaurant serving exceptional food. It’s quite expensive, however, the experience is worth it.
Both food and service were faultless. Highly recommend! If I could rate this place 6 stars I would!
I have eaten at kisume a fair few days and not once disappointed. Really great staff and the food is incredible.
This is a really nice modern Japanese restaurant. For starters, I really liked the agedashi tofu and seafood soba noodles. We also had the no nori no rice roll which looked amazing with the fresh colourful seafood. For mains, the black angus tenderloin was very soft and delicious. Definitely stay for dessert because they have an amazing black sesame panna cotta The service was also great. The place does get busy so be sure to book beforehand!
Loved the ambience of this place. Food is great too! A little bit on the pricier side but well worth it.
We came to Kisumé for an omakase experience at the sushi counter and were very impressed. The restaurant has a moody ambience and great aesthetics. Service was attentive and we really enjoyed watching the sushi chefs work. We appreciated their attention to detail when they noticed that one of us is left handed and proceeded to change things accordingly.
We opted for the 13 piece omakase for $120pp and found every piece to be excellent with particular highlights being the hokkaido scallop and nz sea urchin. The omakase also came with 2 appetisers to start and miso soup to finish.
Overall we highly recommend coming to Kisumé for both à la carte and omakase dining. Note that sushi omakase is only available at the counter seating!
Came here for my birthday party with family. Love the restaurant vibes and their customer service. I was really satisfied with food quality and taste. Sushi were amazing but not a big fan of their bento.
Will I be back? Yes
Booked a table at the sushi counter for a special event, the ambience is fancy casual but very fitting for a special event. Experience is very personalised and interactive, the chef was very friendly and welcoming and gave us a taste of his best quality sushi.
Food was beyond amazing, nigiri were simple yet so delicious. You can definitely taste the quality and skill in all the dishes. Highlight was definitely the wagyu beef nigiri but overall, all the nigiri were beyond expectations.
I strongly recommend kisume, for the reasonable price you get amazing high quality sushi and an unforgettable experience to pair with it. Thank you for your hospitality, I will definitely be returning.
Total cost 2 pp $300
Came here with a a booking made hours earlier for 2 during a Saturday lunch. It was pretty quiet with a calm ambience.
We were seated at the chef's table too near the register. Service was attentive and polite. Though there was one painting that was quite odd.
Food wise, would be closer to 4.5 but not 5 as it the did not all blow me away but were perfectly adequate and delicious.
We had chef's selection ($80pp), which consisted of the following.
1. Fried dumplings - crisp and light with a lovely sauce
2. Kingfish sashimi - very fresh but not a wow factor. Though the flavoured 'salt' was interesting.
3. Miso soup - again nice, beautiful sliced tofu but ultimately just miso soup
4. Fried fish- do not remember the fish but is was nice and light
5. Cucumber salad - crisp cucumber but not much can be said about that
6. Steak - sliced steak. It was well cooked. Wished it was the foie grac steak people raved about
7. Mandarin yuzu mousse sorbet - probably the best dish due to the different textures and complementing tastes.
Additionally we had a fantastic gin and tonic and yuzu cocktail.
I would go again and it is an ideal date place.
We went there for the set menu at $175 pp. The wagyu scotch fillet was beautiful, as was the snapper tempura and the cauliflower and mushroom salad. However, there was just waaaay too much food and we felt terrible for not being able to finish our food and not being able to take it away considering how expensive the meal was. Service was attentive, they should skip the miso soup from the menu.
Delicious food and intimate service. The macadamia cos lettuce salad is a standout for me. Such simple dish yet packed with flavors
Great experience at Kisume, amazing decoration very focus on the details. Personally don't like the Foie Gras Angus beef, I reckon is slicely bitter at the finish and don't think it match but funny part my mate think the totally opposite. Beside that nothing to complain, great lunch experience.
What we had
1.Yuzu Soy King Fish sashimi with truffle flake
2. Salmon Feature
3. Grill Eel on Tofu crips
4. Eggplant Misoakyi
5. Cucumber Tataki
5. Black Angus with Seared Foie Gras on top.
Photo sequence.
Fantastic service and faultless dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience
Exceptionally friendly service. Nice, modern interior design. Fresh ingredients and delicious flavours. Beautifully presented dishes.
UPDATE: CHEFS TABLE
Enjoyed chef’s table tonight, food was great. Some dishes were a slight miss, but enjoyed majority! The experience was nice, will likely book for next season. I think the space was a little tight, but I guess that is the “intimate” setting. Our waiter was amazing and yes overall had a great night.
Came here a while back, just got around to writing a review. Loved some dishes, did not enjoy the deluxe sushi box (maybe because I prefer traditional nigiri). Otherwise, I would come back for particular dishes. Have actually booked chef’s table season 7, so will review again then!
I'm a very lucky girl. I've had the privilege of partaking in the Chef's Table experince three times and I would keep coming back if I could! The menu is seasonal so there is always something different each time with some signature dishes appearing everytime. A lot of stand outs tonight including the tuna tataki and wagyu nigiri, the pearl meat persimmon and foie gras, the spanner & uni dish, and the dessert - japanese citrus kabosu, daidai and yuzushu was so refreshing.
It's a small intimate setting with 12 exclusive seats only each night and you have your own amazing chef.
Perfect for that special occasion or if you wanted to just spoil yourself. Do it.
We had a great date night at Kisumé seated at the bar. We made a booking and were seated upon arrival by very friendly staff who also kept us feeling very well looked after all night.
This was my second time here, and we opted to order à la carte this time rather than omakase.
We ordered some cocktails, and some sashimi and sushi dishes as we were in the mood for sushi. The cocktails were delicious and all the sushi was fresh and very well made. Plating of sushi as well as the desserts suited the theme of the restaurant- sleek and modern. It was also fun being able to see the sushi be prepared right in front of us. The quality of dining experience and food offered is clearly consistent.
The beautiful food, decor, and professional staff pull together to make Kisumé a perfect spot for dates. Would recommend to all who are crazy for Japanese food and a fancy experience.
Had a amazing experience here, seating at the bar area watching the chefs preparing our sushi, nice atmosphere, the menu were interesting, very delicious, fantastic sake menu, great service. Love their sushi, would love to try the chef’s selection next time.
A good place for a formal date. However, it is definitely not a traditional Japanese restaurant, more like western style with sushi. Fancy location, parking in CBD is a plain always. Booked online, and customized greetings were lovely and thoughful.
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 7/10
Taste: 9/10
Value: 7/10
Would recommend cauliflower salad and sushi plate.
Sakura Hemingway cocktail was a delightful treat.
However wait times for main course was too long.
Would come again for a special occasion.
Had the most delightful meal at Kisumé.
The interior was very luxe, and the place was bustling.
Staff were very attentive, friendly and willing to help. They made us feel very comfortable!
The food was brilliant. Presentation was top notch. I enjoyed every dish a lot!
Had the pork gyoza (very good but way overpriced due to small serving, sauce was delicious), soba noodles with sashimi (this was amazing), no nori sushi (interesting concept and very delicious), sashimi (super fresh), duck with yuzu (the best duck I have had in ages, totally recommend), and sesame panna cotta (best black sesame dessert I've had).
Although it was super pricey, it was totally worth it. Definitely recommend for special occasions, or the occasional splurge!
Cannot wait to be back!
Late night meal - I’m in love. Set menu had plenty to eat- great flavours and the bar is a great place to watch them prepare food.
Our first omakase in Kisume was good! But we wanted to try something out of the list. So we ordered the crispy wagyu truffle in which came out as two cute balls with vanilla cream on the side! It was really good and smell awesome! As we finished the list we tried their quite famous desserts. My sister tried their hazelnut and as I am a fan of any black sesame dessert so I tried their sponge. I fell in love honestly, it is so good, not too sweet and quite an adventure 💙💘
First of all I have to say this is the best dessert I have ever had!
The staff are friendly and helpful, but the register lady is a little bit impatient.
It’s the one of the best Japanese and successful restaurants in melbourne
Attended a birthday on this cold weekend. This restraint was nice and cosy as we all enjoyed our meals which were gorgeous to look at and delish too.
📝: Discover a fusion of art, design, and dining. Kisumé draws on the purity and integrity of Japanese cuisine while infusing it with Australian sensibility.
A culinary experience like no other where you can discover dishes both familiar and unknown, all designed to highlight the freshest Australian local produce.
❤️: Wanting a unique memorable dining experience? Worry not. Just opt for the omakase course here where you’ll be served the best sushis of the house chosen by skilled and experience chefs.
If you’re also up for some creative, inventive Japanese Australian fusion dishes, order additional dishes off the a la carte menu.

Had a lovely evening here with my partner. Service was very attentive, which is excellent. Food was great, though I’ve had better at another fine dining Japanese for less $$. Ambience and vibes were fantastic. Great for special occasions.
Ive been here many times since its opening but this is the first time I write a review. Kisume is my fav Japanese food in town. The food is super high quality and affordable price compared to fine dining restaurant such as Koko at Crown. All the menu is worthy to try. I love no nori no rice the best cuz of the well balanced texture of raw fish, rice, daikon and avocado. For main course, beef tenderloin is great choice. The sauce is amazingly delicious. And the presentation of food is so catchy. The shop decor looks fancy and service is beyond imagine.
I love Kisume! I honestly do not like seafood but Kisume opened my taste buds and they did not disappoint. The dishes were flavoursome and the ambience was moody. A must visit in Melbourne

Massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHOUTOUT to my boy @bite_me_melbourne! 🎂 to celebrate we went down to Kisume to dig into some quality japanese! 🍣 first impressions, damn this is fancy 😏 haha great modern classy restaurant 👌🏽 the staff are so professional and on to every need! we had the pleasure of sitting in a private room with our own personal waiter 😁 great experience! Everything is seemless and efficient as soon as you walk through the doors 😉 love it! So lets get down to rating the food shall we? 🙌🏽
.
☑ 8.7/10! The banquet was exceptional! 😊 decent variety of dishes that all have their own unique flavours and textures. The edamame beans were so addictive, because of their salt and garlic seasoning! 🥣 the easy stand out dish for me was the Foie Gras and Beef Tenderloin! 🥩 damn this was good! The beef was cooked perfectly to melt in your mouth! 🤤 the yakinuku soy jus was off the hook! The perfect jus balance of salt and sweet with amazing depth! 😍 to top it off the FOIE GRAS! 😲 this was an experience.. the amount of flavour in the foie gras is ridiculous! 🤦🏾♂️ the rich fatty, creamy and salty flavour it added to the beef was a HERO! 🙌🏽 this dish is a must try! 😉 following slightly behind was the Whipped Caramel! 🍯 suuuuch good balance in this dessert! It was light, sweet, creamy, sour and salty.. damn they made it work well! 😎 textures of the dehydrated mandarins and pecans created an amazing eating experience 😁 all in all a really good banquet! 🙌🏽 you actually get a lot of quality food for $88 💰 so the value for money was up there too! Get around it 🤗
.
💡 TIP - don't eat the edamame beans whole like i did.. 😅 suck the beans out along with the flavour then throw the shell out 😉😂
The evolving omakase menu at Kuro Kisumé is a symphony of flavours that appeals to all humanly senses and is truly emotionally evoking. Trust the skilled chef to pace your heartwarming experience, where at times it will be exhilarating and others, a peaceful zen moment. Not simply an every day fare, it is a celebratory toast with novel, imaginative notions where you will be well fed.
Delicious Japanese cuisine. So amazed by its flavour, especially the truffle wagyu ball - highly recommended! Ambience and service was really good.
The downside is the pricing of alcohol is quite high and our clients are big drinkers. So that would be a factor whether we take clients here next time. But will definitely recommend for date night.
We dined here last year before Christmas. We had the set menu and all the dishesare fantastic. We spent almost 3hours because some dishes took long time, but it was worth the wait. It's a great place to celebrate anniversary or birthday. It's one of the best fine dining experience I've had in Melbourne.
Came here during Melbourne Money and my experience was quite good. Definitely some of the best quality sushi in Melbourne but it comes with a hefty price tag. Great service as you would expect for a restaurant of this level. Is it worth it? Well if you're after a fancy experience with high quality ingredients, exceptional service and price isn't an issue then yes. Would love to try the chef's table next time.
⭐️ $95pp
⭐️ Excellent Service and Accomodating staff.
⭐️ High Quality Sushi. Tried a set and had to finish with citrus dessert which was extremely refreshing with great flavours.
⭐️ Seated at the counter and watched the food being prepared in front of you is a worthwhile experience. Aesthetically pleasing place and attention to detail with furniture pieces straight down to dinnerware.
⭐️ Will come back again.
I had the privilege of experiencing the chef's table with a sake pairing.
Each dish was beautifully presented and eloquently explained by the chef as it was served to myself and the 9 other diners.
The flavour profiles and complexities in each dish were jaw-dropping. The understanding of flavour and the passion in each dish made the whole experience an absolute pleasure. If you asked me to pick a favourite dish, I would have to call it impossible, as each dish is unique and as wonderful as the one before it.
This is not just a dinner. This is the experience of a lifetime with perfectly prepared dishes that cater to any dietary requirements you may have (make sure you put these on your notes during booking).
Sit back with some sake and enjoy watching this very talented chef show why he is as successful as he is.
A fancy fine dining experience, and well worth it.
We ordered the 5 course set menu at $140/person and the food quality was great. All the dishes complemented each other really well.
Restaurant offers a nice romantic setting and is well maintained.
Kisume is part of the Lucas group and they frequently have vouchers offering extra 20% credit. I would recommend purchasing a gift card with the extra 20% credit if you plan a visit here.
Had really high expectations for this place but was a little disappointed.
I had a larger group so we had a set menu, the food was great but the service not so much. It was really hard to get staffs attention when we needed something.
Some food highlights: oysters were super fresh, some of the best I’ve had. Their steak was delicious and great dessert, the set menu was super filling and I would say worth the money.
I found that the sushi rice was quite undercooked and unflavoured however the fish was nice and fresh.
However, I did really like how they gave each of us our own dish to eat instead of reaching over the table to get a little of everything. I just wished the service was a little more attentive as we were waving down staff majority of the time.
