Review Mjolner - Melbourne

Ashleigh Hunter
What an incredible evening! We had a group of eight for a birthday dinner and had the banquet: a three-course meal with shared entrees and mains and dessert. Each dish was utterly delicious, particularly the beef. Before the mains arrived, we had the opportunity to choose our “Viking weapon” from a series of ornate knives, presented by our waiter. Our meal was accompanied by delicious drinks presented in fun ways, such as beer that you drink from a cow horn. We also opted for the bone marrow dish that left you with a hollowed-out bone from which to drink a shot of whiskey. Such a fun and unique experience! Our waiter was lovely and very knowledgeable about the cuisine, drinks and Viking history. The attention to detail at Mjølner was extraordinary and didn’t feel gimmicky in the slightest. We’ll definitely be back.

Amazing experience! Was worried that Mjolner might be a little gimmicky, but our experience was anything but. Amazing food, drinks, atmosphere and staff! This restaurant has it all!!! We enjoyed the Viking feast with a group of friends. They catered to a friend's dietary needs flawlessly, allowing them to share in our experience without risk. Enjoying the same food and not feel like they missed out. Easily a top restaurant experience for me. Highly recommended.

Amazing service and one of the best dinner I had in Melbourne. Went for an anniversary dinner and absolutely loved it. The staffs even gave us a beautiful anniversary card and a small drinking horn as a gift. Definitely coming back!

Love Viking themed decor and menu. You could feel their passion on delivering an exotic dining experience from their table settings, lights, background music and even the apron they’re wearing. Roast bone marrow is one of my favorite which reminds me of the way Mongolian greets their guests. Every dish comes with good portion.

Absolutely an amazing experience. I loved the Viking stories behind the interior and food. The food was amazing! I could not fault anything and the service was perfect. I highly recommended this place to everyone!!

Amazing experience, awesome food, the best service and altogether a wonderful night celebrating my daughter's birthday this evening. One of Melbourne's best kept secrets!!! Intimate, viking-friendly and, did I mention BLOODY AWESOME FOOD!!

Amazing, every part of this restaurant from the food to the atmosphere was great. The food - Ignore everyone saying the price is "too high" you need to pay more for better food, that should go without saying, the food is amazing, the fish was perfect, the meat was perfect, the desserts were perfect, everything was great. The drinks - The honey mead is the greatest drink i have ever had in my entire life, the mocktails were incredible despite me never really liking them, all the drinks look aesthetically pleasing, and the horns are a great touch. The atmosphere - The entire building had a great a visually distinct look through the bottom floor to the top, each part of the restaurant had amazing Scandinavian decor and design, there were horns, swords and other great props and items to give the restaurant a unique flare. The service - All the employees were extremely helpful and polite, each request, including gluten free options was met and the experience was 100% satisfactory. Overall Mjølner is an amazing restaurant that is definitely worth the price and time.

Moljner is definitely a wonderful dinner experience. It was my first time and it did not disappoint. Delicious cocktails and mocktails accompanied mouthwatering meals. The steak and beef short rib were outstanding. The restaurant itself is also beautifully decorated and creates a wonderful ambience. We will be back!

Lover it! Great place everything was awesome, but the food and staff was absolutely top notch! AmIng place highly recommend it!

Super friendly, enthusiastic and efficient staff. They really added something to the enjoyment of the evening. The food was fabulous, we chose banquet style that was $70 per head and was an excellent way to try lots of dishes for our first visit. Generous portions and their ribs are to die for, literally sliding off the bone. We are keen to visit again and will choose our own menu on the next visit, now that we know what’s on offer. All in all a fun night I highly recommend.

I don't even know where to begin. I've never been so welcomed in a restaurant or bar. I've never been so captivated by everything in the venue. The staff, the building, the decorations, the food. Absolutely amazing. James behind the bar was an absolute legend of a host and I was bummed I ran out of money to not keep drinking and eating. Honestly, I cannot recommend Mjølner enough. Go. Book a table. Have a shot through a bone and drink Mead from a goats horn. Skal!

So good!!! 10/10 recommend!! Food, atmosphere, drinks & service were all on point. The highlight for me was the Northern Lights cocktail, heaven in a glass!!

Great food and drinks, fantastic service, the staff were absolutely amazing and made my birthday dinner an amazing experience. Would definitely recommend to everyone to give this place a try

Was an absolute experience from start to finish Being able to try things I never thought I'd be able to was perfect, first time ever having bone marrow and it's utterly delicious then being able to take a shot out of the bone was extraordinary James was a total legend, made our dining experience so much more enjoyable and entertaining Loved watching the Masters at work behind the bar mixing and preparing cocktails The place is gorgeous, love all the craftsmanship that's gone into it Will definitely be back! Recommend this to everyone!

One of the very best dining experiences I have ever had. Amazing and friendly staff, that explained the whole meaning and process behind each meal and drink. The food was incredible. Can’t wait to go back some day soon.

Really fun and atmospheric <3 We had the big dining table in the restaurant. Staff are very lovely, entertaining and helpful. Order a flaming glögg and you are in for a fiery display! The R and B music playing didn't seem to fit the picture but still amazing none the less :) Definitely recommend a visit or a drink in the downstairs cocktail bar section. skäl!

I booked the restaurant for combined birthday/anniversary dinner in early May. It was simply amazing. The booking kept changing numbers and the team were fantastic about changing numbers for me. The meal was sublime and we went the buffet due to numbers and there was enough food for everyone with extra. The venison was the call out here...it was stunning. The drinks are amazing as well - definitely worth finding some other mode of transport to get there/home again (maybe hotel it?). It was not hard to find at all. It was a little noisy but certainly not anything to complain about on the night. The staff were attentive and very upbeat. I will definitely be going back and I know a few of my friends have already been back since that first night. Do it!

Staff are attentive and knowledgeable. Food was really great. Amazing cocktails. I’d be struggling to complain about anything. The place was completely packed on a Wednesday night. They are onto something really special. Definitely give it a shot!

Loved the atmosphere and selection. Honestly some of the best cocktails and drinks I’ve been offered at a restaurant. And unexpected! Bring an empty stomach and some good company. Odin would be proud

Insta: melbfoodie_mark<br/>YT: MelbFoodieMark<br/>** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!<br/>-<br/>What a unique dining experience! Dining experience alone should be enough for you to visit Mjølner. I personally loved the overall ambience and Nordic decos that made me feel like I was dining with Ragnar Lothbrok from Vikings :) However, I did feel like this Viking-themed venue paid a little too much attention to the theatrics than the actual foods.<br/>A few notable things about Mjølner:<br/>- The waiter brings you a selection of knives to choose from before the meal. (Man, all the knives are exceptional looking!)<br/>- You can drink beer from this badass horn<br/>- Once you finish 'Roast Bone Marrow', you can take a whisky shot using the bone marrow as a funnel. (Warning: it can get messy!)<br/>- Even your receipt looks cool with this pop-up viking ship!<br/><br/>Foods were okay but considering the price, they could've been better overall. My favourite was Roast Porchetta which was decent but not as tender as I expected it to be. Overall, I felt like dishes were a bit bland but maybe that's how it's supposed to taste. Overall, I had a pleasant time at Mjølner :) Highly recommend!

It was great to have dinner out again after lock down. The restaurant is Viking themed... Great environment practicing social distancing and good hygiene practices. Had to fill out online questionnaire re: COVID-19. Great service, we started with a complimentary cocktail which was nice. awesome food, meat was so tender and flavours were excellent. Great beer menu drinking from horns was interesting. Over all great place.

I recently had my 30th at Mjolner and had an amazing night. Nick Winter the general manager made all efforts possible to ensure everyone had the best experience possible. <br/><br/>The food was fantastic and everyone that attended was impressed with the service and other mjolner specific experiences such as the bone marrow whiskey luge and being able to choose your own viking knife to kick off the night, just to name afew. <br/><br/>It's key things like this that make mjolner unique amongst a city known for its amazing food scene. <br/><br/>Thank you once again Nick for making my 30th a night to remember.
Tracey Loc
mjolneraustralia was such an awesome experience!! I definitely felt like a viking when i got to pick out my own serving knife! Drinking out of a horn was pretty cool but drinking smoky whiskey out of a bone marrow was rad as!! Food: 3/5 <br/>Service: 3.5/5<br/>Ambience: 4.5/5

Loved the ambiance of the place. Food was super yum! <br/>The highlight of the experience was this little bit of surprise we received in the middle of our meal. <br/>Definitely need to go back to try out the bone marrow and whiskey shots!

Service was amazing, and the theme was very well done - made dinner a super fun experience! Food was meaty and rich - was very filling. Drinks were great too. Thanks for the awesome experience :)

We came here for a birthday party on a weekday. Great atmosphere and I liked how you can choose your knife. I enjoyed the welcome shot, gravlax, chicken and bombe Alaska. Our waiter Ian was awesome and made it a fun night. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
Iryna Sakhatovska
Came here for a function with a large group - the food was delicious and well cooked, with really great portion sizes. A particular standout was the bone marrow and doing a whiskey shot out of the bone after eating!

Mjolner Melbourne was absolutely fantastic, excellent service, beautiful food (with vegetarian options which were delicious), and great atmosphere. We arrived about 10 minutes before opening but they were lovely and seated us early (we had a play to get to after). It was a very quiet that early on a Tuesday afternoon, but it was perfect for our first official date. It was awesome to see them leaning into the Viking feel without making it gimmicky.<br/>My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Definitely give yourself an hour and half or more to really soak up the experience.
Natasha French
My partner took me for our 1 year and we had the best time! The staff lean into the atmosphere and make for a really great experience! The food was the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant and the whole experience was 100/10

Good food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, fair price, lots of surprises.

The fit out of this place is awesome and wait staff really friendly. In particular the waiter Ian was really helpful with his explanation of the dishes and how to drink out of the horn. A really fun place with great food in a dope setting.

If you have watched the Vikings then this needs to be on your bucket list. Viking themed restaurant which goes all the way - including serving shots and drinks in traditional Viking style. Food is very rich and meat heavy, consistent with theme. Food is very tasty and cooked well. However, I think it is a tad overpriced for the food, remember you are paying for the experience. A place where I think is great to check out and provides a great night out. Not a place which you would go regularly....
Mad Dawg
Mjolner is one of those restaurants that instantly vibes when you walk in. There is a lot of performance involved with mead honey shots and knife choices. Who doesn't enjoy drinking from a horn?! We elected to have the 3 course banquet menu. My top pick with the entree was the smoked salmon which was deep in flavour. With the mains, could not go last the short ribs; literally falling off the bone. The only gripe was the snapper, it did not taste fresh. The ice cream sandwich was the perfect way to end the menu.
Pyro
Went for dinner with 4 friends, booked in advance and was seated promptly. Wait staff were very friendly and service was excellent, kept topping up our water and felt very looked after. For food we ordered the $75 banquet which included some mains and some entrees and also luckily got dessert as part of the set. Got the Confit mushrooms, tarragon, toasted rye bread for entree which was delicious with the burratta, Rotisserie free range chicken, jus gras, sweet corn was great, would have loved a crispy skin on this dish, Beast: O’Connor’s pasture fed short rib, white radish, chimichurri was the highlight of all the dishes, short rib shreads off the bones, 2 Whole snapper with green  tomato, fennel pollen vinaigrette was probably our least favorite as it tasted frozen and grainy, and Brussel sprouts with balsamic glaze which tasted charry but delicious. Finished off the meal with a lemon tasting ice cream sandwich which was so good. Overall the service was excellent, experience was very unique and different (drank out of horns and had a shot with the waiter) and food was ok.

We loved 😍<br/>The Vikings theme of this place was a threat. We came here for a banquet meal and thoroughly enjoyed most items on the menu.<br/>The venison loin starter was paired well with the leek purée. The burrata and mushroom was also a favourite.<br/>For mains, we had the short ribs, rotisserie chicken and whoo snapper. We enjoyed the short ribs but the other two were average. <br/><br/>We disliked 😖<br/>The bombe Alaska wasn’t the best I have had and the churn was very dry.<br/><br/>Overall, great experience!

Great and interesting place that is well worth the hype. Their cocktails are amazing and the food is super hearty. Even my picky five year old enjoyed the chicken which was an unexpected bonus!

Dined here for a special birthday and really enjoyed the experience. Staff are so friendly, attentive and had great knowledge about the food served. Appreciated the shot when you first sit down which got us into theme of Vikings.<br/><br/>Food:<br/>We especially loved the bone marrow (of course!). For entree, we had oysters and bone marrow. Great 2 dishes to begin our meal. We continued to have the ribs and special of the night, the Wagyu. The ribs were beautiful and tender. The meat came off the bone and was full of flavour. The Wagyu was yum but abit over cooked to my taste. I loved the cauliflower puree that was paired with it.<br/><br/>To end, they gifted us with a shot glass as a birthday present.<br/><br/>Would definitely dine here again if there was an occasion that came up.

Awesome spot. Great ambiance, not wankery, Food was amazing, so good in fact we ordered another steak and more ribs. Then the deserts! Apple crumble was knock your socks off great.<br/><br/>Good wine choice from waitress too.<br/><br/>Defo go back here, it’s worth the high reviews.

I think we spent at least an hour at the museum before heading back to the CBD in search of Mjolner, a Viking themed bar.<br/><br/>Mjolner has two sections to it. A restaurant upstairs and a bar downstairs. Just a warning this place is quite expensive but fun as a once-off. My friend ordered a cider in a horn! The drink looked epic. When your getting to the end try drinking from the side so an air pocket doesn’t form, causing it to spill everywhere. I ordered the Fog of War which arrived with sorbet and pop rocks. The pop rocks made this into such a fun drink. My partner also ordered a Fire that was quite strong tasting but delicious. This came with a piece of dark chocolate that brought out another level of flavour to the drink........

I expected more from the food, the dessert was nice!

4.5 <br/><br/>Very impressed by this Viking themed restaurant and really loved the interior ! Service was pretty attentive at the start but did get a bit inattentive as the night got busier . We got the bone marrow , burrata and the lamb to share - the lamb was a really huge serve and we were pretty full what we didn’t order any dessert ! The theatrics of drinking a shot through the bone marrow was really fun, so was the drinks you can order in the Viking horn
LongDistanceLunches
Celebrated a birthday here, I had made the reservation about a month in advance. We arrived early so went down stairs to the bar. My partner got himself a cocktail “Fog of War” which had popping candy in it and I had a mocktail “Blunt Axe”. Not long after it was time to head back up to our table to start our incredible Viking experience. <br/><br/>Right after we were seated our waitress came and asked us to hold up our horn shot glasses and told us how to say cheers “skål”. You had non alcohol/ alcohol to choose from. <br/><br/>We then ordered roasted bone marrow, beef rib & the steak. You get to choose your own knife which was really cool. First we got into the bone marrow which was soooo good, it came with some bread which you could mop up all the juices. After you’re done you have the option to have a whiskey shot out of the bone barrow. The rib was huge in size and had the delish balsamic and the steak was cooked to perfection. We opted for only protein and no sides as nothing really tickled our fancy<br/><br/>I would definitely recommend this place!!

Fantastic food, lovely staff, great Viking aesthetics and not too loud or noisy
Herb Guazon
Awesome venue, awesome food and awesome service. Will definitely come back again. The service was exceptional here and the interaction with the theme makes it a great experience.

Very smart menu for the size of the kitchen - lots of slow cooked items that works well for the space. Great decor, and theatrics. Food and beverages are excellent - especially if you're drinking from a horn!
Little Picky Very Hungry
This is the coolest place for celebrating a special occasion or a memorable night out, feels like we were back to the Viking age. We’ve learned so much about Vikings culture throughout the night.<br/>.<br/>A complimentary drink, mead (honey yeast alcohol) served in a mini horn glass to kick off the night- a nice refreshing start 🐝🥃. I don’t usually drink, but then the wine list is too interesting that made it so hard to resist. I got Thor’s favourites, BLAZING GLOGG ($22) is a spicy mix of martell, cognac, port, juniper, wood and cranberry. It was so much fun to watch the waitress make my drink in front of me, from a stream of fire🔥🔥🔥, served fiery with a house spice ‘teabag’🌶. It’s the perfect mix between sweet, spicy and boozy. I wouldn’t recommend ordering it before your meal tho, it’s quite strong so u might not wanna have it with an empty stomach🤐. It’s more like an after-dinner drink. On the other hand, MIMERS NECTAR ($22) was mild and crisp.<br/>.<br/>Do yourself a favour and order a ROAST BONE MARROW sprinkled with meat powder ($22)🦴, it was rich, buttery and unctuous 🤤. Scoop the marrow out and spread it on a slice of rye bread, simply amazing! Wish there were more. Then we just couldn’t say no to a whiskey shot (Talisker 10yo $28 for two) through the bone marrow, you can see why we got tipsy before our mains😵🤷🏻‍♂️.<br/>.<br/>I was considering ordering the Lamb Chump but they sold out of that, so I went for half of the ROTISSERIE CHICKEN ($36) 🐓Sis had the BEEF SHORT RIB ($50) 🐄. I didn’t think the chicken would blow my mind but it did, both dishes were tender well-marinated!👅💦Paired with the BRUSSELS SPROUTS ($12) is exquisite! One thing I would note is the food menu options is not very extensive, I hope they will expand it. Service was friendly enough.<br/>.<br/>It certainly not cheap to dine in here, if you want a unique dining experience then look no further. I would come back for the cool vibe and drinks.
Lea
Love the Viking theme! Waiting staff friendly and knowledgeable. Highlights were the bone marrow and the beef short ribs! Wished our table of 2 had the option of the tasting menu which is only for minimum table of 4. The downstairs cocktail bar is cosy and worthy of its own visit as the bar menu is awesome! Will be back!

My partner and I came to Mjølner on a Monday night to celebrate some milestones we've achieved lately, and we definitely received an experience worthy of our celebrations.<br/>The welcome shot (honey, vermouth & mead) kicked us off just right, which then lead us into horns of orange blossom mead, as recommended by our server.<br/>The food is absolutely out of this world. I can't express enough how many times we said "oh my god" while eating. Starting with the delicious bone marrow and buratta dishes as entrees, we then moved into chicken and short rib beef which were both to die for. So rich and just melted in our mouths. We also had the brocollini and potatoes as sides, which were amazing.<br/>Even though we were both on the verge of food comas, we then shared the apple crumble for dessert (after seeing all the reviews on here!) and we were not disappointed. It was just heavenly.<br/>Thank you, Mjølner, for giving us an incredible date together, a fantastic dining experience and for filling our bellies with such phenomenal food. Can't wait to come back!!
The Roze Review
I rarely give out 5 star reviews but my experience at Mjølner was so exceptional, it deserves everything I am about to say.<br/>Firstly, the theming in this bar/restaurant is everything!!! From the fur lined booths to the drinking horns, you truly feel like a Viking. Next, the service is absolutely impeccable, we were fortunate to nab a corner booth and were promptly given both food and drink menus. Our waitress was one of the best we have ever had, she knew the menu back to front and was so knowledgeable about origins of certain alcohols and how they were prepared. The drinks were fantastic!!! My group tried a selection of cocktails and beer/mead and enjoyed every single one of them. Then there is the food, I highly recommend the trencher, such unique flavours.<br/>I can’t wait to return to try more of the menu. Thank you for having us.

We Had a great GOT whisky tasting experience here. love the Viking theme decor. Great collection of Alcohol

This atmosphere here is awesome! Can’t recommend the bone marrow enough followed by a flaming whiskey shot. Great service and a bit of fun too 🤩

Really good service! Had an amazing experience. Quality of the food was great, oysters from Tasmania were fresh. Only downside was the baked seafood tasted like it was dropped in oil and served to us. Other than that, I would come back but probably won’t order that baked seafood again.

What a fun night dining at Mjolner, which was created based on Viking/ Thor’s theme. Started the night with a Viking skal, we shared the 11 courses chef selection, chose our own “weapon” from a selection of knives ,drinking beer from Viking horn, 12 yo whiskey from bone marrow, had our first proper Bombe Alaska and had a grip on Thor’s hammer! Most of the food photos didn’t turn out well but it was really scrumptious and customer service was excellent and so entertaining !! Highly recommend the Chef's Selection ( minimum 4 pax).

Such a fun experience here at Mjølner! <br/><br/>Would first like to thank the waiter for attending to us and explaining in detail to what dishes was what, along with recommending what whisky to take with the bone marrow! <br/><br/>Food was also quite good, for two we were quite stuffed by the end of the meal and enjoyed the beer we drank outta a horn<br/><br/>Skol! :)

It was an absolute experience! Definitely coming back here and recommending this place to friends and family. The service was outstanding. Kerr, our waiter was very lovely and definitely knew his foods - so he was great with recommendations. Each dish was lovely. The apple crumble was by far my favourite.
Eat Good Melbourne
Mjolner is a viking themed restaurant with a Narnia-esque doorway and as you'd expect, Viking themed decor and waiters. The menu is inspired by the diets of Vikings back in their day and is predominantly meat based but they do offer vegetarian options. We ordered oysters, bone marrow, scallops, mushrooms, potato, cucumber, roast pork, cauliflower and serving drinks through a horn. If you order the bone marrow, they also give you the option of doing a flaming shot through the bone. All the food was so delicious and full of deep flavours. Even the "simple" vegetarian sides were amazing. I highly recommend the pork, scallops and bone marrow. But honestly, everything we ordered was delicious. Come in a group so you can sample more of the menu. Service is also amazing, super friendly and down for a conversation. Will definitely be back.

This place is fantastic! I secured an early booking in the restaurant and rocked up at the required time, was ushered into a cosy nook with a handful of tables of 2. Very cosy!<br/>From being seated, the menu was explained and we were offered complimentary drinks (mead or non-alcoholic).<br/>We ordered cocktails, the bone marrow, then the short rib, pumpkin dumplings and a side of brussel sprouts to share.<br/>The bone marrow was a very generous serve for sharing (2 halves), smothered in, what I think was a bit of vegemite and roasted to fatty perfection before sprinkled with "meat dust" and sprigs of herbs, served with sliced dark rye.<br/>After that we were presented with a leather knife holder and was asked to "choose our weapon". I chose a knife with the most decorated handle. Pretty.<br/>The short rib was absolutely amazing. Fatty, fall apart tender in a savoury jus. I cannot recommend this dish enough!<br/>The pumpkin and ricotta dumplings were light and delicious, cheesy potato and ricotta balls in a pumpkin sauce with sauteed Tuscan kale.<br/>And the brussel sprouts in balsamic vinegar were also a standout, the outside leaves deep fried until brown and crispy leaving the inside perfectly cooked.<br/><br/>We didn't have dessert on this occasion and contemplated having a second drink, however our 2 hour booking was coming to a close, so unfortunately, our viking adventure was over.<br/><br/>Can't wait to go back, and next time, will definitely check out the hammer!

<br/>Can I just say Oh My Gawd! I've wanted to try this restaurant for a while but I completely for forgot about it until this week and boy am I kicking myself for forgetting about this place.<br/><br/>The restaurant is a gem. From the ambience of the restaurant to the accommodating staff and the delicious meal we were served I will definitely be back!<br/><br/>I won't go into the interactive dining experience as believe it's a nice surprise for new diners experience.<br/><br/>Starters: Venison Lion<br/>I wish I ordered two! This was absolutely amazing with mushrooms and the complimenting crunch of the potato crips I definitely recommend this!<br/>Please note - potato crips are cooked in the main fryer so may contain traces of gluten<br/><br/>Main: Wagyu Rump<br/>Perfectly cooked steak, the smoaky onion puree complement the meat perfectly a long with the pickled onion<br/>(ceoliac friendly)<br/><br/>Main: Feature - Pork (I forgot what it was called)<br/>I have to admit I was a bit hesitant as a fair few places overcook their pork. I was wrong and glad I ordered it! It was beautifully cook and served with a parsnip two ways (roasted and puree). A perfect share dish and for me it was the star of the night for me, but that's because I'm a sucker for pork crackling!<br/>(ceoliac friendly)<br/><br/>Sides: broccolini and potatoes<br/>Potatoes were so soft and fluffy and the broccolini was paired with a capsicum puree (I think) which gave it a nice kick.<br/><br/>Dessert: Bombe Alaska<br/>A nice way to end a meal the tartness of the sorbet complements the sweetness of the meringue. Normally served with a shortbread base but I opted for the gluten free version which was some sort of cracker base.<br/>(ceoliac friendly - if shortbread is replaced)<br/><br/>My advice? Order some beer (or wine) and go with some friends or a special someone because there is nothing better than amazing company and delicious food.<br/><br/>Oh and choose your weapon wisely 😉<br/><br/>UPDATE TAKE 2<br/><br/>YEP I CAME BACK!! and I wanted to share!<br/><br/>New entree: Naked clams, scallop and prawns.<br/>This buttery seafood goodness! Add a squeeze of lemon to balance the dish out perfectly with an added picked something (not sure what it was but man it was goooooood)<br/>Ceiolac friendly if you ask!<br/><br/>Feature: Lamb with peas and pea puree.<br/>If you're like me and dislike peas, don't that deter you from this dish, the perfectly cooked lamb with the crispy salty skin was to die for!<br/>Ceiolac friendly!<br/><br/>😍😍😍<br/><br/>

A somewhat belated post today for a restaurant that deserves better! The menu may have changed, but I’m sure the quality hasn’t. If the Marvel movies haven’t gotten you up to speed, Mjolner is the name for none other than Thor’s majestic hammer. It also happens to be the name of a viking themed restaurant on Hardware Lane, the second after the venue first became successful in Sydney.
The Official Food Hunters
What an experience! The food was mind blowing, we got the set menu at $70 a head, we got the sample almost everything off the menu. The bombe Alaska was the star of the night it was INSANE!! <br/>The meats are just perfectly cooked and seasoned with delicious flavours, the whole atmosphere was amazing

Came here about 2 weeks ago after a spur of the moment change when our group of 6 became 8 and our first dinner venue couldn't accomodate. I was very pleasantly surprised that Mjolner could and we happily ended up here! I'd wanted to come here ever since it first opened and will be sure to visit again for a longer sit down dinner as we were pushed for time once we settled in (pre-comedy drinks/nibbles). <br/><br/>Ambience is fantastic as is the attention to detail. Service was attentive, extremely accommodating and even gave us all a round of a shot on the house as a welcome gift. I loved the signature horns (which act as glasses for drinks) which add an ornate and authentic touch to your visit. The menu in the downstairs bar was a little limited with a few bigger sized dishes to share between a few people but mostly compromised of charcuterie meat and cheese platters. The special dish on offer being a sourdough cob lamb stew. Food looked amazing when it arrived and was delicious. I loved the rye breads which were on offer with both the cheese boards and the bone marrow dish I ordered. Dishes didn't take long to be devoured and everyone left full, happy and satisfied - keen to return.

Good food and amazing vibes! Really liked the pre-meal drinking ritual. <br/><br/>We ordered the bone marrow, venison lion, short rib, waygu steak, cauliflower and potatoes. And finished off with the bombe Alaska and malt parfait. All the cocktails were delicious and service was also really good.<br/><br/>Defs recommend “Blazing Glögg”!

A group of about 5 of us stopped here for a few cocktails after dinner. It was not that busy, but yet it still took a long time for a waiter to come to the table and for our drinks to be served. The cocktails were ok but nothing to get excited. The waiter spilled one all over our table and my friends jacket.<br/><br/>It also took a long time for someone to give us our bill. We had some people paying cash and one person paying for their drink via card. The waiter just gave my friend the EFTPOS machine, with a brief comment about doing the transaction and splitting out the bill herself and walked off never to be seen again. Luckily we werent too under the weather from too many cocktails and were able to work it out. Is this standard practice?? For the cost of the drinks, surely the waiter can press a few buttons himself?? <br/><br/>We were not impressed really. We waited a while for him to come back but he never showed to collect the money or the machine. We ended up leaving it on the table as we had to go. Really hope no one from the other tables nicked the cash or got my friends card details. We actually could have walked out without paying and no one would have noticed. Luckily we're not that dishonest. Sub par service, wont be back! Go to Eau de Vie!
Lovefood
Recommend! Everything we had was a delight except for the oysters, which left a very oceany taste. We had the bone marrow, gravas, short rubs, wagyu and the fish. Finish off with waffles and meringue. I love the rnb background music. Ambience felt fun and lively. Would come back!<br/>Con: group of 4, table was way too small, considering we had a few mains and side dishes to shared, felt very tight and uncomfortable. Chairs were also very uncomfortable
Just Another Foodie
Mjolner is all about the experience. The food isn’t the best especially considering the price, however the experience is worth a one time dining. <br/><br/>Unfortunately we had the less exciting waitress of the 2 on the night. Though we were able to listen on from the table beside us - who had the more pleasant waitress, ours rushed through the welcoming and menu. Despite this, it was still an amazing experience.<br/><br/>For entree, we had the famous roast bone marrow. The bone marrow was amazing, especially a hit for Vegemite lovers!! However, the cold and dry bread that came with it couldn’t have been worse 😣<br/><br/>We ordered the ribs and wagyu. Both were absolutely amazing! Particularly the crunchy component and the pickled onion on the wagyu.<br/><br/>For our sides we ordered the new potato and cucumber. The cucumber was such a good decision as it cut through the richness of the sauces and gave that extra fresh component to the meal. The potatoes on the other hand, we weren’t such a fan of.<br/><br/>Overall, it was an amazing experience, however with the limited menu we’re unlikely to return again.

Be prepared for the theme - they go all in with the Viking vibe, whether you’re toasting the old gods or choosing your weapon to dine with. Whack on your pointiest helmet and enjoy!

Mjolner in a few words - Experience beats the food. Meaning yes, the food is great, but it’s the experience here that makes your dinner fun and amazing. I won’t spoilt the fun events, you’ll have to try for yourself. <br/><br/>The staff are really friendly and accommodating. <br/><br/>We ordered three entree dishes; the Gravlax, the Baked Clams, scallops & prawns and the infamous Bone Marrow. All the dishes are recommended as they all stood out in their own way. All quite hearty dishes. <br/><br/>For mains we chose to rib eye to share. This was a winner. So tender and juicy. A must try. <br/><br/>For dessert we opted to share the Bomba Alaska which I didn’t like as much. Personally I don’t like meringue as I find it too overly sweet and sickening but I must admit I did order it to see them flame it up before hand 😅<br/><br/>Defs a great date night choice.

Mjolner would have to be one of my favourite top list of restaurant! The food the decor and the service! Really great atmosphere. Food was all very delicious. Loved everything about this place. I could not fault it at all.

Booked a week or two earlier. They didn’t mention anything about confirmation email or msg. They got my number but didn’t bother to inform me anything. It was my friend birthday and we even booked a dessert with a candle (they took her name too). On the day, what we got was booking wasn’t there and the manager was like that is not his fault 😂 he blamed us for not asking confirmation email 🤷🏻‍♀️ POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Jamie
Didn’t even get to try this place because they didn’t even bother locking in our reservation. We called a week ago and they said they can lock in a booking for 3. We rocked up and they said we didn’t have a booking. Apparently our info was in but no booking. And they didn’t even bother to do anything. Goodbye. Never coming back again.

Mjolner is a one of a kind restaurant. Expect the unexpected and bring your Viking spirit!!<br/><br/>Great atmosphere in the dining area and love the surprises and special details. It’s the little things that make it a fun experience for me😆<br/><br/>Food wise- really flavoursome, juicy and very meaty so ensure to grab some sides with your mains! Carrots with lentils were great, but potatoes with the goats cheese was very overpowering (but that’s just me), still very much enjoyed it.<br/>Cocktails were bomb, highly recommend the Northern Light, although I do believe this is one of their favourites.<br/><br/>Would recommend Mjolner 👍🏼

3.5<br/>Interesting medieval Nordic venue with perhaps more attention given to the theatrics than to the actual food. It definitely wasn’t cheap but the servings were decently sized. We had the short back rib which was as tender as can be, the wagyu which had a beautiful smoky flavour and little crunchy piece of rice, and the goats cheese potatoes which were ok. The tables are quite tightly packed and our group of 6 felt a little close together. Before the meal, the waiter brings out a range of knives to choose from. We would have been fine with a regular serated knife. It wasn’t a bad experience although the menu was quite limited and I couldn’t see myself rushing back.

What an experience!!I took my fiance to Mjolner for his birthday, we both had a wonderful time. The service / hospitality was great (thank you, Erin), there was amazing attention to detail with decor and ambience, the food was a little pricey but fresh and well prepared AND the selection of drinks won't disappoint.Upon arrival, we were offered a complimentary shot of 'Stone' as a toast. I then later ordered another two shots of the same. Mead infused with honey and vermouth - delicious!<br/>The 'weapon of choice' (where you choose your own knife) is such a unique concept that you won't find at many restaurants. Make sure you choose one with practicality in mind, otherwise it may be difficult to use (I know from experience now, haha)!Personally, I really enjoyed the bone marrow. It was full of flavour and later, the bone was converted into a whiskey luge where the inside was fired with a blow torch to liquefy the fat then whiskey poured down, which adds smokiness and extra flavour.I won't spoil the rest but highly recommend visiting Mjolner for an occasion or even something different to change up the usual restaurant experience! Next time I'd like to take a group of friends and order the set menu for $70 per head!

I would recommend Mjolner for those who have not visited, however, I must say I enjoyed the theme and the internal decor a lot more than the dishes themselves! Loved the cutlery and glassware in the restaurant and you can really tell how meticulous they are with the fixtures. We ordered the lamb chump special and while the portions were generous, it was a little lacking in flavour. Had to douse it in pepper for a little bit of help! Likewise with the bone marrow - a pretty hard to find dish in Melbourne but nothing too special.

We visited restraurant on Australia day and firstly they charged us a 15% surcharge eventhough on there menu it stated 10%. We went in a group of 4 and ordered the set menu. For entree we got salmon, which was tiny, venison; which was also minimal and then we got some mushrooms with some cream cheese; pretty average stuff. Then finally we got the mains which was fish, with all the bone in it could rarely get the meat out, chicken which had no flavour or marinate and the ribs which was ok but really oily. Then for the sides some potatoes which cream on top and some carrots with lentils, no real flavors in either. I was expecting alot more from this restaurant but it was a real let down and really overpriced, paying an extra $50 because of public holiday too just made it even worst.

The service at Mjolner was excellent! Two of us ordered the bone marrow which the way they cook it is very unique, definitely worth to try! The features lamb was delicious, I loved the smoke flavour in it with a bit of fat rather than just lean meat. Downstairs has a quite nice bar with booth available and heaps of drink options.

Highly recommended! If you are looking for something fun and entertaining, here is the place. Food is also amazing yet creative. Definitely try the bone marrow, very interesting. It was very tasty and the service was good. I love dining with a difference, and this definitely has that appeal. I highly recommend.

Great find! It was a fun restaurant to dine at. Service was so good here very attentive and friendly all throughout. It's a Viking them restaurant, the decor is very nice. Food is also amazing yet creative. Definitely try the bone marrow, very interesting experience. It's a good place to come with a few friends. Absolutely loved our experience. I highly recommend.

If you're looking for a spot to spend good money. Well, this is the place to do it! The food was absolutely delicious and you get a lot of food. You gotta love a restaurant that offers guests to pick knives before meals start. Roast bone marrow is so good and goes well spread on a slice of rye bread. Even the vegetable is so delightful. The staff and the owner clearly has a passion and craftsmanship. It was a memorable and unique experience. Would love to go back here.

New potatoes taste and smell like unwashed socks. The sauces of the beef rib is a little weird, too salty. Service is average. Oysters had little shells left.

If you’re looking to spend some good money, this is the place to do it! This trendy and unique restaurant is based on Nordic style of eating. It truely is an experience, so you really get a lot for your money! The food was absolutely delicious and you get a lot of food, trust me you will be full. I like that you can choose your own knife which they present and they also give you welcome shots!

Unbelievably good. Amazing list of cocktails with very creative techniques of extracting flavours. Meat-centric menu with some unique finds such as the bone marrow. Wagu was actually the best quality steak I have ever had. It fell apart in your mouth like pâté.

Lots of novelty drinking beer from a horn at Mjølner. Almost worth coming here for that experience. <br/>Also had the Mjœlner Trencher to share which arrived very hot, ready to crack open, and was filling and delicious.

You gotta love a restaurant that offers guests to pick their own knives before meal starts. Roast bone marrow is delicious & goes well spread on a rye bread. Beef short rib is so tender, it falls of the bone and is full of flavour. Even the vegetable is a delight to eat, combination of crispy cabbage with grains and black garlic is so tasty and surprisingly pretty filling. Not sure about some of the cocktails though. I like my Northern Lights cocktail as it is very refreshing & the ingredients are straight forward.

Everything about this place was amazing. The service was second to none and the food was perfect. We had booked a table for 7pm and as it wasn’t a busy night they let us head down to the bar for a drink first. What a great atmosphere!! Cages of viking weapons and armour and a great selection of alcohol. Once we went back up to the restaurant we were seated at our table which was perfectly tucked away. we were brought out some complimentary mead and I ordered a cider to drink out of my viking horn! They then brought out a leather carrier full of knives at which point we made our choice to use for the evening. The food was absolutely delicious, my partner ordered the half chicken and I ordered The lamb. both were cooked perfectly and the flavours were amazing. I am really looking forward to going back and highly recommend Mjolner not only for the food but for the whole experience.

Awesome ambiance! It’s a place that makes you curious. Hidden in an alley, it is a quite nicely decorated bar. The staff was incredibly attentive and generous. If you are looking for something fun and entertaining, here is the place. Viking theme restaurant, the decor is very nice. Food is also amazing yet creative. Definitely try the bone marrow, very interesting experience to use it as a drinking vessel.

Went there for drinks with a good mate (two guys). Sat at the bar. The lady was Nordic (tick) and knowledgeable. The menu is very cool with different themes pointing you in the right direction. By far, the most interesting page is the cheap, small drinks based on Sea, Stone, Wood and Bone. They reflect each title brilliantly. Beware...Bone is not for the faint hearted! Sea is fantastic and refreshing.<br/>The ONLY thing preventing me from 5 stars is the music. Lounge bar tunes kinda ruin the feeling. Give me Viking drinking songs!

Came here to celebrating graduating from my university and have to say I was absolutely blown away by the entire experience. From the presentation and tentative care of staff with their anecdotes and knowledges, to the flavoursome and unique mains and entrees, the entire evening was faultless. I dare to say Mjolner now ranks in my top 10 restaurants of Melbourne, and even higher when considering the ambience and interior design. The staff and owners clearly have a passion and craftsmanship unrivalled in providing a unique and memorable experience to their patrons. With compliments to the chefs, table staff and owners, Mjolner is a clear winner in my books!

I had heard a lot about Mjolner, but never really had the chance to visit and give it a shot. I must say, i was extremely happy with the dining experience. The staff was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and the food was exceptional. the 12 hour beef rib deserves an award, for the way it was falling off the bone! Also as we were celebrating our anniversary, they took note of this, and provided complimentary shots, with a fun filled environment. Thank-you team @ Mjolner! Will be returning! Highly recommended!
Bella
Unique concept. Their cocktails were very intriguing, very creative. Quite disappointed that the horn was just for beer. The ambience is good for talking but no live music/any music.
Comfy Chairs
What a unique experience. Wasn’t sure about this place but it was amazing. Service was impeccable and food sensational. You start the meal with a mead in a horn glass followed by a request to choose your ‘weapon’ or knife from a rolled leather pouch. You get to drink your beer out of a horn and the cheque comes in a card that opens into a Viking ship. The meat and salmon were tender and full of flavor and the bombe Alaska is worth the effort. Meals are meant to be shared so glad to have been there.
Rach
Awesome ambience and Viking experience. The staff were incredibly attentive and generous. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday and she received a handwritten card and custom shot glass from the staff. You can easily split bills via the machine. Food was also delicious - highly recommend the Burratta and the chicken. Unique experience!

It’s a place that makes you curious. Hidden in an alley, it is a quite nice decorated bar - for a nice chat with a friend. Nothing too crazy, nothing too romantic, nothing too exceptional either. The idea behind is nice and it might sound cool to go check it out although it’s difficult to make this bar become your fav one - it’s just kind of a one time thing.

What a fun restaurant to dine at. Service was attentive and friendly throughout the night. We were given a complimentary mead and honey shot to start, then after ordering our food, we got to choose our ‘weapon of choice’. I chose a wooden blade and my partner chose this ridiculously heavy one. They did warn us that one main should be enough for two people, but our eyes got greedy so we ordered two entrees, two mains and one side. <br/><br/>Entree- Venison was a cold meat dish that was really tasty and flavourful. You had mushrooms and some kind of purée and crisps that created multiple textures and worked well together. Gravlax was cured and smoked salmon, one of my favourites of the night. It was set with wafers, dill, fish roe and horseradish cream which created such a fresh taste. <br/><br/>Main- The lamb chump was a massive serve as you can see in the picture. Set on a bed of smoked eggplant purée that worked well together and was cooked so that it was soft and pink in the middle. The beast short rib was the softest and most tender meat dish I’ve had for a long time. Keep in mind that this cut is a bit fatty, but their sticky sweet sauce helped cut through the fattiness. <br/><br/>Side- Potatoes in goats cheese, cornichons and shallots. Yum! That creamy mixture was a perfect combination of tangy and savoury. Really complimented our mains. <br/><br/>Drinks- I ordered the Breakfast in Folkvangr and it was sweet and carried floral notes. <br/><br/>Needless to say, the waiter was right, we struggled to finish all of it, but we had a good go. This also meant we had no room for dessert, which means we need to go back. Definitely worth a visit to experience fun and delicious Nordic dining.

Highly recommended!! If you are looking for something fun and entertaining, here is the place. Viking theme restaurant, the decor is very nice. Food is also amazing yet creative. Definitely try the bone marrow, very interesting experience to use it as a drinking vessel. This place has an extensive drink menu if you want to try something new. It’s a good place to come with a few friends. There is also a bar downstairs if you just want to come to have a drink and check this place out.

Came to celebrate my birthday here. Staff were super attentive and gave us great recommendations for drinks and menu options. The bone marrow starter was very unique and really enjoyed the whiskey luge after! Beef short rib was very tender and the bombe Alaska was a great finisher

The food was beautifully presented with decent portion sizes. The wait staff were energetic, enthusiastic and attentive. The restaurant was cosy with a great atmosphere and I would recommend going there for the experience. It was my friend’s birthday and they gave him a small gift which was a nice touch!

Was lucky enough to come here on the long weekend without a booking! <br/>The food was very tasty and the service was good. I did feel a little silly drinking out of a horn, but everyone was doing it so 🤷🏻‍♀️<br/>We ordered the beef and potatoes which was actually plenty of food for two people.

Went here as part of a big group, got the set menu. I felt there was nowhere near enough food, the dishes were pretty good but I left hungry, as did another couple who got McDonald's on the way home. They should really add a few more vegetarian side dishes.<br/>On the plus side, venue was very kooky and nice, service was good and the drinks were excellent.

We booked a birthday dinner for 9 people. They said they'd put us in a private room, turned out it was just 3 tables at the back area. We were spread on 2 different tables, another strange group on the other. So 2 tables couldn't talk to each other. <br/><br/>At the tome of booking, the girl on the phone said we could go with either a la carte or set menu, but were told we must go with set menu once there. <br/><br/>Since we were seated on 2 different tables, table of 4 and table of 5 got exactly the same amount of food. Salmon was cut into 5 pieces instead of 4. Even worse, both table got 4 pieces of chicken, so our table of 5 was so confused on how to split the food. I felt that we were conned to pay $70 more and not get one more portion of food. <br/><br/>Food was terrible, not just for the price, just terrible overall. No season, no nothing, just overcooked plain meat. The snapper was cold. Dessert was too sweet. <br/><br/>Our glasses of water was empty most of the night. In the end they couldn’t bother refilling and just left the big bottles there. I actually preferred that because I had to drink from my own bottle I brought before.

If you’re a fan of the Vikings series you’ll be interested in checking out Mjølner.<br/>The venue has two different areas. Downstairs is a cool looking bar and upstairs is the restaurant. <br/>Upon arrival we were given a complimentary shot which fortunately was not very alcoholic and went down very easily . The service was friendly and the waitress took her time to explain what was on offer and any questions we had.<br/>The highlight for the entrees was by far the bone marrow. Only downside to it there wasn’t enough of it and I don’t even generally like bone marrow!<br/>For the mains we ordered the chicken , fish and ribs. The ribs were tender an delicious however the other two dishes lacked flavor. <br/>We ended it off with a couple of desserts. Wasn’t a fan of the meringue but the apple crumble was decent. <br/>There were an interesting array of cocktails and definitely worth trying as they weren’t sickening sweet like most restaurants create their cocktails. <br/>The biggest dilemma with this place I had is my experience with it was a 4 but if someone asked if would I go there again I would probably say “not any time soon”.

Mjølner is a viking-themed hidden restaurant located on Hardware Street. Saw the 4.8 stars rating on Zomato, and got really excited. The decor was definitely photo-worthy and interesting. You will get a horn if you order the drinks, and drink out of it! You’ll get to pick your own knife as well. At the end of the meal, you will also get the bill in a pop-up card, which you can bring home!<br/><br/>Gradvadlax<br/>Price: $18<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌝<br/>Ordered this because of the unfamiliar name. It turned out to be an enjoyable starter of the meal, especially if you’re a fan of raw dishes. It had a sashimi-like texture. The sauce adds more flavour to the dish as well, without making it overwhelming. It was overall a nice, light starter.<br/><br/>Roast Bone Marrow<br/>Price: $22<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌜<br/>The bone marrow was really flavourful and juicy. The bread that comes with it paired well with the bone marrow. Wished there were more. It was definitely the highlight of the meal! <br/><br/>Bird<br/>Price: $42<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝<br/>It was a bland dish. Really not worth the price, I think you can get similar taste with much lower price. The chicken was tender and juicy, but it was nothing special. Definitely a disappointment.<br/><br/>Fish<br/>Price: $39<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝<br/>Another disappointing dish. The fish had more flavour than the chicken, though. The fish was really tender. It was not bad, but it didn’t impress me as well. I don’t recommend ordering the fish, You can get better ones at Asian restaurants.<br/><br/>Beast<br/>Price: $45<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌜<br/>Definitely the most decent one out of the other mains. The short rib was enjoyable, the sauce was also a nice complement to the dish. This dish was the most flavourful. Definitely would recommend this more than the other mains. But it wasn’t something that you’d be wanting for more.<br/><br/>Malt Parfait<br/>Price: $16<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌜<br/>It was too sour for my liking. If you’re a fan of sour desserts, maybe you’ll enjoy it more. It wasn’t bad, it was just a personal preference. You can really taste the sourness of pickled grapes and mulled wine sorbet. <br/><br/>Flammende Mjolner<br/>Price: $16<br/>Taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌜<br/>Was really excited about this one, as I saw the photos of the flambe earlier. The meringue was too much. It was really sweet and thick. It was too overwhelming. However, once you get rid of the thick layer of meringue, you’ll get the mandarin sorbet inside, which was really good! I really enjoyed the sorbet, very refreshing, especially after the overwhelming sweetness of the meringue, plus, the flambe part was definitely instagram-worthy!<br/><br/>Overall, Mjølner didn’t live up to my expectation. The main dishes were average, they were nothing special. I really enjoyed the starters, though. If only they have more selection of mains, maybe it would’ve been better. In my opinion, going to Mjølner was more about the experience you get than the taste of the food. Personally, I won’t come back, but it was a very interesting new experience. <br/><br/><br/><br/>
Hungry For Chips
Have been wanting to try this place ever since the hammer got returned. Did you know that Mjølner is the name of Thor’s hammer and Thor’s chariot was pulled by 2 goats that he could eat and resurrect?<br/>This place combines various Nordic cuisine and let’s face it - where else are we going to drink beer out of a horn? Highlights: the gravad salmon - one of the best starters I’ve had for a long time. Perfect texture and the flavours! Lowlights: the wagyu beef was good but didn’t live up to its full potential.
KnowingMelbourne
We visited this bar and restaurant recently and absolutely loved our experience. On a Friday night it is bustling and vibrant, the perfect atmosphere if you want to get out and experience the best Melbourne has to offer. The cocktails are brilliant, with some of them offering a theatrical element (think drinks being set alight!). And if you want a beer, why not drink it out of a horn? It’s so much fun! Sure you need some directions (turn it to the side to avoid it pouring down the front of you) and it comes with a special holder, but I defy you not to love it. The menu is small and some offerings may be a little adventurous for some tastes (bone marrow and crusty bread anyone?) but the majority will be a crowd pleaser. The roasted meats were definitely a highlight – beef cheek and perfectly roasted chicken were our choices. They have a meat of the day but get in quick, it sold out by the time we got to order. The sides were all delicious as well. AND after you order you get to pick your own knife to enjoy your meal with. I love dining with a difference, and this definitely has that appeal.<br/><br/>I highly recommend!
Grounded Gourmet Globe-Trotter
Recommended by a friend to visit this Viking themed restaurant. We didn’t have a booking for the restaurant upstairs so we choose to head to the downstairs bar instead. <br/><br/>We were welcomed by friendly staff who found us a spot, walked us through the menu and made recommendations to help us decide.<br/><br/>We ended up getting the mighty trencher which is their take on an old medieval dish which is a hollowed out loaf of bread with rotisserie meats. <br/><br/>We got a beer served in a horn and a fog of war cocktail which is a scoop of frozen cocktail served with a splash of fino a dash of popping candy! <br/><br/>Can not wait to make a booking and visit the restaurant upstairs next time.
Food Dine Roll
What an awesome place! A night to remember.<br/>I love the viking theme! All services look a part. Wearing leather apron and men got beard.<br/><br/>Let me say that it will one of the night to remember for you. So much is happening in this place. We had 3.5 hr long dinner and we enjoyed everything about it.<br/><br/>When you sat down they will welcome you with SKOL. Which is a lovely shot tasted like beer mixing with wine and something else wonderful. Really got you into the mood of an awesome night!!<br/><br/>We decided to go hard on the menu. We got 2 starters and the Feature dish (pork) and 2 sides.<br/>My oh my! So much food.<br/><br/>The starters were Bone Marrow and Vanison. I'm not sure how i'm feeling about vanison because it was self almost rare and it's really gamey. Might not be my pallete. It was prepared well and tested really nice but i couldn't eat more than 2 pieces.<br/><br/>Bone marrow was HUGE. Biggest i have ever got served in restaurant. Real buttery! Served with bread. Massive size.. i knew i would struggle later on.<br/><br/>Once we are done.. the waiter told us that if we would like to drink whisket down from the Bone!! Of cause we took the challenge. He let us choose whiskey. Came over with Blowtorch and lit up tmr left over fats on the bone and then you pour in the whiskey and drink it down! Was a real struggle for me as a girl trying to look pretty lol but it was awesome experience! To my surprise 2 shots of whiskeys were not charge on the bill (i found this later)<br/><br/>Main came... feature dish of roasted pork and it was ABSOLUTELY beautiful! Once again, great size. Both sides of cauliflower and potato were so good as well.<br/><br/>Struggled to finish them all so unfortunately missed out on bombalaska dessert :(<br/><br/>The cocktail lists are sooooooo amazing. All theme to vikings history.<br/><br/>At the end of your meal they bring over the Mjolner! Let you hold it and take pic with it.<br/><br/>Real experience. Loved every bit of it.

Fantastic food, warm friendly service, and phenomenal salesmanship!<br/><br/>The restaurant on the popular Hardware Lane is worth a visit at least once with its traditional Scandinavian influenced decor, and its dark but classy ambience. The food here is expensive as expected but considering the quality the prices are not unreasonable, and the portion sizes are not likely to have you looking for a drive through on the way home. The four of us shared a range of Entrees, 2 sides, and 3 mains and we were left very full and satisfied. The mains of beef, chicken, and fish were all top notch with the chicken possibly being the least exciting of the lot.<br/><br/>To avoid your bill escalating through the roof you will need to learn to say no to the salesmanship that's simply is out of this world. Telling you that the table is not ready is more than likely a tactic to fleece you for a round of drinks at the bar downstairs. Feel free to say no to the extremely friendly waiter offering whiskey shots out of a bone, or a very large hammer at the tailend of your meal. Despite the amount of the food we had, 2/3 of our bill was for the alchol that we do not remember explicitly asking for!<br/><br/>This place can be a great bang for your buck if you are a smart shopper and which is why I'm looking forward to coming back. Lastly, the entry door is very well disguised which only adds to its character.

Amazing food and equally amazing service! Mjolner is a rare example of the fact that great food and an amazing experience doesn't have to come at the highest price. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thanks for the experience guys!
