Review Tiamo - Melbourne

Deji H
This place is a great classic Italian restaurant with a menu that can suit anyone in the family. The atmosphere is chill and cool. They offer an awesome range of fresh pizzas and paste. Staff members are always friendly, prices are reasonable. The pizza here is really amazing and would recommend trying these guys out. They have great toppings!!!

Before trying this place, we did not realize this restaurant had been around for years. Definitely a hidden gem (although the queue say otherwise). Star dish for us were the pizza and the veal parma. Service was friendly and pretty quick too. Food - 8 Service - 9 Vibe - 7 Price - $$$
The Gourmet Foodi
Great atmosphere right on Lygon - recurring customer for quite some time now. Fairly tentative staff with food coming out in adept time. Large-proportioned servings including desserts; hearty Italian cuisine at its best.
Paolo
Restaurant-Pizzeria well below expectations and for the rating and for the waiting line before sitting down. I tried to make myself feel good, the arrangement of the tables and chairs was very casual and fluctuating, but the pizza dough was not sufficiently leavened, carbonara pasta, nothing special, pizza with prawns, the latter looked like rubber bullets. Very kind and attentive staff. Unfortunately, the rating cannot exceed two stars.

Co-ed bathroom causes some confusion at first...but adequate privacy and facilities for all humans. Espresso Martini is delicious, food is great, service staff are incredibly understanding, friendly and obliging. We got too full early in our meal and requested our share pizza as take away which they were more than happy to accommodate. Highly recommend!

We had a rather lengthy wait to get seated on the Formula 1 GP weekend so we were relieved to be offered an outdoor table. The service was friendly and the garlic bread and meals were satisfactory. I was, however, disappointed to find a drain moth in my drink. I pointed it out to the waitress and she offered to get me a replacement drink which I declined but I did ask that she pass on my feedback to the kitchen.

A small unassuming deli with indoor and outdoor seating. The food however is freshly made from scratch and mindblowingly tasty! Staple Italian dishes (pizza, pasta, pesto sauce) but cooked with native ingredients that burst zillions of flavours inside your mouth and leave you yearning for more. The simple senior staff are very attentive to the diners. Loved the pesto! Never had such vibrant and delicious pesto in my entire life. Perfect accompaniment to the garlic foccacia bread. Lovely place to hang out with friends.

Tiamo is one of the most popular Italian places on Lygon - and I can’t believe I’ve never tried it till now! We were in the area and decided to get some takeaway from Tiamo, and it did not disappoint! Absolutely love the pizza here. We got the prosciutto and Quattro Funghi - both were super delicious, but my favourite has to be the mushroom one! We also tried the seafood spaghetti marinara which was really delicious too. Portions are not huge but flavours are really good! Will definitely need to visit in person in the future.

Biggest bowl of puss. The gentleman that served us could not give a toss about service, was to busy falling asleep at the bar upstairs or on Facebook. We Asked for garlic bread first up and never received it. The Waiters looked like they didn't want to be there and wanted to be somewhere else. Wouldn't recommend to anyone, ever. If anyone comes to WA and is in Fremantle go to Sandrinos, best Italian ever! You bring shame to Lygon st, Tiamo.
Avgoustinos Papakonstantinos
Pasta was dry no sauce with it and looked rather small for a main. Hard to get a waiter/waitress and not impressed with the service.
Jules Clydsdale
Our experience was awesome, service was very good, food ordered and received meals with 10-15 mins from order being taken. Atmosphere was beautiful. We had a table upstairs so away from the hustle downstairs. Only downside was not being able to split the bill. Food was authentic Italian food

First time here and the food does not disappoint. We are still hungry and will be ordering dessert now

Quality of food, portion size and pricing was very impressive. Short wait time once order was received. Keep up the good work on Lygon Street!

Wonderful trattoria style Italian food and service for those who know what that means. We have been regulars over the years and it was my fave Carlton restaurant during my university days. Sempre buonissimo!
Tony Tracie Agnello
Great food made by staff that understand what Italian food should taste like
Nicole Ritorto-Scari
Service was fairly poor and abrupt delivery of meals and drinks. Ordered garlic bread for our table which never made it to the table. Pasta was not fresh and definitely not like Nonna's have had better more fresh and authentic Italian dishes.
Sarah Clark
Amazing food , great atmosphere and fantastic staff! We’ll definitely be back.
Travis Chalkley
Great food, nice range of beers and good prices. The service was a touch slow but great quality of service but otherwise would happily return in a heartbeat for the amazing food.

This place was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint, I will happily return when i'm in Melbourne again.

Awesome seafood platter and great service. We will be back

Fantastic service , amazing food The staff we're so lovely and warm

Okay so it may have a good rating but it does not cater for groups of elderly or wheelchairs. <br/><br/>We tried to book a joint birthday and let the people know that we had wheelchair and elderly. <br/>The woman on the phone had to rely to the man in the background who rudely spoke to her. <br/>Then told us they can do 16 people on a Tuesday night but we had to do 5 - 6:30pm. Talk about rushing a group through. <br/><br/>There are plenty of other pizza pasta in Lygon Street. in all my dealings with restaurants l would have to say this is the most discriminating and unaccommodating place l’ve come across. Very disappointing
LC
Came here for a quick bite before a movie, our party of three had two pizzas and a pasta dish, such a lovely dinner! Will be back to enjoy again!
Sheila Monalisa
You can come across a lot of italian food around here; Lygon Street, but Tiamo is one of the best. Pizza and pasta are both so good. Try the mushroom filled pasta! I forgot its name but yes order that one. While this ham and cheese pizza is a winner

My husband and I love their pizza. It was first pizz we liked here in Melbourne. Went here last week with our friends who are visiting Australia and were very excited to bring them Tiamo only to disappoint us with their very arrogant servers. One lady slammed the menu in front of me and the other guy was very hostile to us. This happened to us twice, the first time I thought they were just busy but last week was not. One of the worst service we received. Sadly I didn't get the chance to get their name.

It’s always good to go to Ti Amo for a quick plate of pasta, especially during the week. The restaurant it’s always busy but you can always leave your number at the desk and they’ll call you whenever they have a table available for you. Food is consistently nice. Staff is not always attentive and friendly, really depends who’s serving you.
FoodieInMel
The place was quite busy and crowded, service was not very friendly and efficient, the food just average, and 3 of us ordered in the same time, they missed one of the order, my friend has to wait another 15 minutes for her food. Very disappointed experience.
Frank
Went for dinner on a Monday night - waiters are rude and don’t care about customer service. Pizza was alright. Seafood grill was below average, small portion and most of it was over cooked and chewy.

Came here on Saturday night for dinner, we ordered garlic bread, the pasta with meatballs and eggplant and sausage pizza. The food here was tasty, service was quick, definitely one of the better Italian places on Lygon street and I’m glad we came here. Will definitely be back to try out some of the other dishes this place has to offer! <br/>

My friend and I were craving pizza, and since it was at an awkward time (around 2pm ish), quite a few of the restaurants we were planning to go to weren’t open. Luckily, we found Tiamo and were surprised to see that it was quite bustling despite being after peak hours. We opted for outdoor seating since the weather was great, and decided on a large Capricciosa (no anchovies)to share between the two of us. <br/>The pizza was so tasty! The mushrooms and leg ham were abundant, and the olives and tomatoes combined beautifully with everything else for a great taste. I noticed that there wasn’t much mozzarella on it though. The dough was thin and crispy, making it very delightful to eat. A large serving seemed just right for the two of us, because we were left satisfied but could possibly fit a dessert down. <br/>The staff who served us were very helpful and approachable.<br/> For $21.50, it was a very satisfying meal, and I’d definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

A great place to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine with generous portions. Ordered couple of pizza, pastas and breads. Everything was made to perfection and desserts surprised us all. Exceptional taste and adequate portions as we were group of 8. Service was fast and humble.
Amisha Patel
Great ambience, beautiful pasta and pizza, quick service and overall a great experience. Highly recommended! We chose to sit outside and the restaurant was well heated.
Meowktail
Great pizza for a great price ! Portions were generous shared amongst 5 people, pizza and pasta were fresh and delicious. Awesome place for traditional cuisine, the place was bustling but service was quick
Anth Cavalli
Nothing better then eating a nice cultural Italian meal.<br/>Love being Italian and love scoffing down our traditional foods!!<br/>The pastas were absolutely delicious and if you’re a Parmesan fan like myself! They give you a massive bowl to share around!!<br/>Flavours of the pasta are awesome! Heaps of sauce and yum.<br/>Ordered the Don Giovanni pasta which comes with clams!<br/>❤️🇮🇹
Hungry Little Caterpillar
Absolutely delicious. We came across this place on a Saturday afternoon, we tried the sausage pizza which was so yummy, minestrone soup and garlic focaccia were outstanding also. If you are in the area and looking for some delicious authentic Italian this is your place!
JOELLE
A cosy italian eatery on Lygon.<br/><br/>Located on lygon street, amongst many other italian restaurants, this place has both indoor and outdoor seats. The two times I was here it was packed, so we had to queue even on weekdays. We're seated outside where it was heated. The inside looked chill, with dim lighting and quite spacious.<br/><br/>The staffs were friendly though food was a tad bit of a wait (except pizza), it's also bit hard to get their attention.<br/><br/>Last year:<br/><br/>Gamberi pizza was yum, one of the best pizza I've had in Melb. I like the dough as it wasn't too thick nor thin though on the thinner side, not oily, great amount of tomato sauce, melted mozzarella, prawns and rocket on top.<br/><br/>Tortellini Tartufo was pretty good, the pasta was just a tiny bit soft for my liking, but still had that nice chewy texture, and the filling was good amount and wasn't sickening, you can taste the truffle thought not much, while the sauce and mushrooms was flavourful.<br/><br/>Spaghetti don Giovanni: pasta was cooked perfectly, the tomato sauce was well balanced, there were some chunks of tomatoes. The clams were good amount, spinach bit crispy.<br/><br/>Had the special, risotto with pumpkin, which was nice. The risotto wasn't too salty, rice texture was good, and pumpkin added a nice texture and sweetness, complete with feta cheese.<br/><br/>Prosciutto pizza was similar to the prawn pizza, it was yum, only difference was the prosciutto which was very generous (bit much for my preference but can be great for some people) and that shaved parmesan added flavor to the pizza which i love.<br/><br/>Update:<br/><br/>Hawaiian pizza was quite good, dough was again well baked though it was tad bit soggy in the middle I guess from the pineapple which I think was caned. There was also quite generous amount of ham and cheese was a decent amount.<br/><br/>Marinara with fettuccine was decent, the serving was quite generous, as well as the seafood, which I believe was also frozen (not bad). But what I was annoyed with is the overcooked pasta, which was too soft.<br/><br/>The snapper was quite good, in terms of size and texture. It did need more salt though because it was kind of bland, but the veggies were seasoned well and cooked well. There was some parts of the fish that wasn't scaled though, which was a shame.<br/><br/>Overall, after coming back it didn't really impress me as much as my first visit and I really hope it was just my luck this time that it wasn't as good.<br/><br/>( follow for more!✨)<br/><br/>xx,joelle.

Pizza and pasta is high quality. There are many Italian restaurants vying for your service but this is the classier and most romantic of them all. <br/>The consistency is always there. We have been there many, many times and doesn’t disappoint. <br/>We always get the MACCHERONI DELLA ZIA and it’s delicious. Also the capricciosa pizza. <br/>If you don’t get there early you will have to wait due to its popularity.
The New Fave
Tiamo is a Melbourne institution on Lygon Street in Carlton. Serving up Italian cuisine, you can expect big hearty servings of pasta, inexpensive wine and self serve bowls of dried Parmesan. Unfortunately, on this occasion our experience didn't live up to the hype. The penne ragu for $19.90 came out lukewarm - which was a shame, as the pasta itself was cooked al dente and the sauce was rich with flavour. There was also a piece of hair in my pasta which you can see at the bottom of the bowl in the picture below - not ideal, especially seeing as it was clearly visible and could have easily been caught by the waitstaff.
ThE MOiStMaKeR
Service was pretty inattentive, had to wait a while even though staff were just walking right past us. The food was decent, the marinara pizza could have come with more toppings (such as anchovies and mushrooms) because it was quite boring with just mussels and prawns.
Vinniesia Fen
Visited on a saturday night and the place was packed with people. Waited for 20+ mins to be seated. The waiters weren't exactly friendly, but functional.<br/><br/>The food was average, but I won't mind coming back again.

Overall great food with a home-made vibe and taste. Great place to visit if you want a relaxed italian dinner. Recommendation: Macaroni della Zia - great taste and good size! Insta-5-Stars if this place was slightly cheaper..

Some of the best food I've had on lygon street. The pesto gnocchi and the eggplant parmigiana are ABSOLUTELY delicious. I always recommend this place to my friends visiting Melbourne.
Melbourne Epicurean Juror
I had lunch two days ago at Tiamo's (my first visit) with 2 friends. My friends commented that their meals were great including Spaghetti Don Giovanni (Mussels, clams & spinach cooked with garlic, oregano & chilli in a light Napoli sauce and basil) at 23.90, however I ordered their, Tortellini Tartufo (Ricotta filled tortellini with cream, mushrooms) & truffle for $23.90 which I found the pasta a little starchy & all three dishes were served steaming hot within 10 minutes of ordering. The staff were excellent - very friendly & helpful, & I was impressed when one of my friends requested a meal not actually on the menu (the Veal Scaloppini with fresh vegetables) & their was no hesitation to accommodate her. The background music was at suitable level to be heard over easily.<br/><br/>The Juror's Verdict: Food 4.5/5 (for the 3 meals), Service Provision 4.75/5, Will I return: Definitely, next time to try their Hawaiian pizza<br/><br/>Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

This place was a lovely find, the service was very friendly and the food was great! I ordered the Spaghetti Don Giovanni and it was very yummy!

Tiamo is my go to Italian restaurant on Lygon Street. It’s by far the best place on Lygon St. The pasta is super fresh and tasty. And it’s a casual and relaxed setting

Arrived today and was ready to enjoy a nice meal, the meal didn’t disappoint, we ordered the Garlic Focaccia for entree with both Schiaffatelle and Maccheroni della Zia as our mains. The food was nice to say the least, but Parmesan was definitely needed to bring out more taste in the pastas, where as the Garlic Focaccia is well done perfectly. <br/><br/>That being said, as it was a public holiday and with a 10% on top of the bill for services for ANZAC Day, definitely thought the service should’ve been better, entree came out halfway after we’ve eaten our main meals, <br/><br/>Service was also fairly slow in seating us taking upto 5mins for seating and then another 10mins from when we were ready to take our orders, which left us feeling neutral about Tiamo at the end of it. <br/><br/>Hopefully was a once off and no one else experiences the same as us!

Disappointed !! We ordered 'Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana' and were served veal. We told the waitress who took my plate back to the kitchen to prove it to the cook. I saw her laughing while talking to the cook in the kitchen when i turned around. She returned saying it should be chicken but if i wanted the kitchen to cook me another one then they would. I decided not to as we didn't have time since we were going to a movie. The thing which irked us the most was when we went to pay and when asked how we enjoyed our meal we mentioned that we didn't get what we ordered. This puzzled  her as she mentioned they only cook the 'Chicken Parmigiana' in their kitchen . She  suggested that they would've had to get the  veal from next door ( a separate section of Tiamo.) We can only conclude  that the cook couldn't be bothered cooking the chicken so grabbed veal from next door and tried to pass it off as chicken. Not going back again thats for sure!!!

Its loud, crazy and you have to shout to be heard... and THAT is how you know that your in an authentic Italian restaurant.<br/>Welcome to Tiamo 😊<br/><br/>On the 7th day god rested, but not Tiamos. At 7pm on a Sunday evening this place is busier then a one armed brick layer, shoveling out carb loaded goodness in the form of traditional pastas and pizzas.<br/><br/>We ordered a margherita Pizza and the Maccheroni della Zia (aka Pasta). It would of been a bit more professional if the meals came together and the pasta seemed a bit bland on its own, but it was nothing that Mrs S couldnt fix with chilli flakes and parmesan which got the attention of a table of retirees from Fremantle that were drunk on a glass of wine and the atmosphere of there actually being people in a city.<br/><br/>While they had a friendly yarn with Mrs S about why italians like her, are dipping fresh bread into their pasta bowls... i was constantly questioned by the table opposite me about the size of my pizza;<br/>"what size pizza is that?"<br/>Mr S - "Its a large".<br/>"You can eat that all on your own?"<br/>Mr S - waiter! Cheque and a doggy bag please."<br/><br/>All in all we rate Tiamos: 4/5<br/>Will we be back? If they can find a table for me, hidden in the corner away from judging eyes... then yes!

I was looking forward to this place based on the star rating on here and was really disappointed by the food. Bruschetta was on plain white, barely toasted bread with an old tomato mix. Everyone's pasta dishes were pretty meh. Sorry guys, wish I had a better experience but I could have made this better at home.

I have ordered the mussels at Tiamos 100’s if times over the years. But I swear they get better every time. Today’s were a little different - and I loved them! <br/><br/>We had coffees, great wine, shared a margarita with salami, and then the mussels. I added chilli oil and Parmesan! 👌<br/><br/>We finished with short blacks with a 1/2 shot of grappa in each.<br/><br/>Really great lunch! Just under $75 for 2 inc drinks. You don’t need to spend big to have an amazing experience in this amazing city! ❤️🍷<br/><br/>Not sure about the tunes though 😂

Non pretentious food, classic Italian home meals. The antipasto options are amazing.<br/>Whenever they have the house made granita running do yourself a favour and get a Lemone.
FoodieGary
timeless place to enjoy some good Italian meal, it surely wears the "Melbourne institution" badge with honours. Always a great selection of antipasto to start your meal.
Karen
Wanted a quick dinner before a movie. We were seated quickly and menus delivered ordered pasta, though i think the place specializes in pizza. The truffle pasta was flavourful and filling, the marinara had a good amount of toppings but the Napoli pasta was a bit plain.<br/><br/>One minor thing would be service, during the order the waitress stopped mid-order to welcome other patrons in. I personally don't mind but it would've more polite if they said excuse me could I help these customers first instead of cutting half way through.

Food 3.5/5<br/>Service 4/5<br/>Environment 5/5<br/><br/>The food is average except the black squid risotto, which tastes so soft and juicy. We tried the lasagna which tastes like supermarket food. The friend veal steak taste average. But this is a nice place to enjoy relax and the Italian bar culture. The service is fantastic! So I can beat the average food to enjoy this good time with my friend

Visited with some friends after a tip from another friend. Had a bottle of the Italian Pinot Grigio which was lovely and very easy drinking. We shared a lovely entree with prosciutto, figs and burrata. It was lovely, but quite expensive (although those ingredients are expensive too). We got 3 fig halves on our table of four. I think it's good practice to try to match these kind of things to the number of people on the table. So cut the figs differently or give 4 halves. We got some bread with butter as well, all the butter was individually packed. Maybe an idea to upgrade this for a better environment? We shared the risotto nero and tortellini tartufo. They were both pretty yum. Our friends shared to other pastas that weren't quite as good. I would give 3.5 but think 3 really isn't doing it justice so therefore I have to give 4.

We love the food here! All dishes we ordered are very delicious especially the squid ink risotto! We also love the cozy environment and the vibe!

You will experience the authentic Italian customer service - rude from this restaurant. Just smashing plates in front of you, and take your plates without asking. Oh well, that’s just Italian. The elderflower cocktail was amazing, quail was well cooked. Pasta is not great, it’s average, but eatable, expected more from Lygon st. Maybe it’s not homemade and fresh that’s why?

Tortellini Tartufo : 😍 Amazing <br/>Ortolana Pizza : 😍 Amazing <br/>Maccheroni della Zia : 😍 Amazing <br/><br/>Wow! Can I just say what an amazing experience we had a Tiamo? We went on a Tuesday night and they were so busy that there was a wait list. Service was outstanding; food was so fresh and delicious; wait times were not long and the atmosphere was lovely. I highly recommend coming here if you want Italian food. And any pizza is a must try. It baked fresh at the front of the store and it’s worth sinking your teeth into.
Svsj
Tried the lasagna and margherita pizza. The cheese just melts. The pizza thickness is good as well. I love both food! And the service was pretty good as well.
Susan
Amazing service that I cannot fault for our waiter. The food. Mouth watering !. The tortellini was delicious with just the right amount of cream and mushroom. The meatball spaghetti was the best I have ever tasted. The meatballs were seasoned and cooked to perfection along with the pasta. <br/>The Ortolana pizza was also nice. <br/>The ginger ale we ordered paired nicely with the food.
Edie
This place is such a amazing find! Literally everything on the menu is so good! And the customer service is incredible. We go here so often that some of the waiters know our names, absolutely love it there

Dropped by Tiamo for a quick late lunch last Sunday, I and my friend weren’t really hungry so we order 2 pastas - Carbonara and Saltati with fettuccine. Loveeee my fettuccine, and everything else was just right. Friendly staff and a great vibe overall.
MSG_Traveller
The Piccante pizza was delicious and we also had a linguine pasta with garlic, prawns and chilli from the daily specials menu which was excellent too. Staff were friendly and efficient and managed to organise a table for us within ten minutes even though they were extremely busy and we had arrived without a booking - will definitely return here again soon!
Urbanette
Ordered delivery from this restaurant and couldn't have been more disappointed. A tiny bit of pasta and a desert which was much smaller than I would expect. The pasta was also delivered cold. Other things can get in the way with food temperature but not with the size. Won't be ordering again.
Crabapples For Lunch
Great spot serving sumptuous Italian food. We had the mushroom pizza special which had a good truffle taste, but as with many of the more traditional Italian places the amount of toppings on the pizza aren't as generous. The marinara was really nice and something we always order. Good amount of seafood, pasta was done al dente and the sauce was tasty but not creamy so it didn't make you feel overfull by the time you finished. Portion size was filling.<br/><br/>Staff are generally friendly and accommodating. The place can get crowded but it's also quite a large area with many nooks so it's still quite cosy for your party.
Svenja Grabo
Wouldn’t say this is high quality Italian but definitely good pizza. The staff was friendly but not very experienced and cleared the table before everyone finished their meal and asked if we wanted a dessert before the last person finished their pizza. Wouldn’t go there on a date but as we came hungry after tennis it was definitely good enough.<br/><br/>I found the overall appearance of the restaurant a little grubby and therefore will only give 3 stars as I wouldn’t enjoy spending my night there or stay for a drink.

Finally a pizza that fits my taste! I dislike burnt pizza and this one isn’t burnt 😍😍😍 i don’t eat pork and we can change it into shrimp, i really like this place! The other dish is like gnocchi, but it’s not gnocchi i forget the name but it’s nice too.

2.5/5<br/>Service at Tiamo was fantastic, the staff were friendly & fast. The food was however disappointing. For entree I ordered the soup of the day, potato & spinach, which came with a small slice of bread toasted with cheese. The soup was a let down as tasted okay, nothing to rave about. For main, I had the Aglio e olio pasta with rocket salad. The pasta was cooked perfectly but where was the chilli? I could only taste garlic & oil. The rocket in the salad was fresh but the dressing was watery & sour. A dash of sweetness from balsamic vinegar could have made the salad a lot better. Forgot to take a photo of the pasta sorry.

Best pizza I have ever had in my entire life. The margarita pizza is the best. Apart from pizza you should also try the hot chocolate which will make your day for sure !
Wilson
Food was delicious, service was fair considering late night diners coming in at 9.45 for dinner<br/>One minus point is we ordered a glass of their pinot grigio and was so surprised for a very italian vibe restaurant it came completely in a standard coffee latte cup. Truly amused. <br/>
Alessandro Calabro
Good all rounder here with a twist.  Great stuff always busy and staff are only to happy to help you with your order or if you have questions.
Ange T Kenos
You are one of my wife's favourite places. But last week she and her friend went there, ordered 2 different  meals but both with the same pasta sauce. She said it looked a bit funny. Well both ladies were ill as a result. A one off and one that I know will not happen again but  unless you know you cannot check your 'systems'

Definitely a busy and popular restaurant in lygon.see lots of takeaway oder when queuing for seat.pizza and pasta just average not fancy, i have an obsessive concern about the texture of pizza base。after a fluffy and chewing base, this pizza isn't my favorite…<br/>This restaurant do have good reputation among customers…will come back try something else in future

Tiamo is one of Melbourne’s gems. My friend and I were served quickly with great service on a busy Saturday night. Whether you sit indoors or outdoors, the atmosphere is incredibly homely and welcoming, mirroring the comforts of Italian food. <br/>To start we ordered the bruschetta, which was the extremely fresh and the perfect starter. Our mains were the Ortolana Pizza and Maccheroni della Zia. The pizza was good, but not mouth watering. However, the pasta was simply to die for. The pasta was freshly made, the meatballs were packed with gooey cheese, and the eggplant was cooked to utter perfection. <br/>Our three meals were delicious and filling, but did not leave us feeling heavy or greasy. <br/>Overall, Tiamo is a Melbourne staple and you must visit next time you’re on Lygon.
Me
Tiamo’s is my go to pizza/pasta place on Lyon Street. This place is an absolute institution. I love the vibe in the place and the wait staff are all great. <br/><br/>This time round we ordered the alio olio and carbonara as the pasta dishes. The were as always exactly what you’re after. I know this is weird to say, but I actually love the bread they give you. It’s so soft and also chewy on the outside. I love it. I know right carbs on carbs right.. haha<br/><br/>The rocket partisan salad was great too. We ended up fighting it out on who would eat more of it!<br/><br/>Keep doing what you’re doing guys because you’re doing it great!<br/><br/><br/><br/>
Melissa
We there last night for birthday and I was really disappointed Cos the pizza base was so hard that you could not cut it was a hard biscuit and no taste at all
William Cheah
The pastas were absolutely lovely, especially the carbonara. The pesto on the other hand, is snout average. Pizza was thin crust, and nicely done - salsicce was the name.
Kezia
The pasta are very recommended, we will come back to try the pizza next time. The pesto ravioli is the best, they are very generous with the pasta, delicious!
Andrew Shelton
Some Lygon St “institutions” trade on their former glory but now produce food which is mediocre on a good day. Not Tiamo. The coffee here has always been good and the food is just great. The prices have always been very reasonable. Have you ever had a bad meal here? I didn’t think so.
Hungry Tum
Good traditional Italian food. I prefer their pasta and main dishes to their pizzas - a great choice for a traditional. Spaghetti or gnocchi. They also have some great specials.
Kat
My friend and I often catch-up for dinner in Lygon Street, Carlton. We have our favourites, and naturally Tiamo is one of our favourite lunch spots.<br/><br/>I'm not a big red-meat eater, but whenever I visit Tiamo I make sure to order their Veal Scaloppine al Vino Bianco. The balance of flavours between the tenderised veal and white wine is perfection. Their side of freshly steamed vegetables are also incredibly generous and always retain their crunch and bite, just the way veggies should be.<br/><br/>The service is impeccable and super efficient. I can only comment however on their lunch-time service as I have never been to this restaurant during the evening rush-hour. I highly recommend Tiamo for an inexpensive and pleasant dining experience along Lygon Street.

This place was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed at all .Best Italian food we have had in Melbourne . We ordered pizzas and pastas and the tiramisu and choc. mousse. Everything was divine. Reasonably priced , Friendly staff and Delicious food . Can't wait to come back.

Food: 🌟🌟🌟🌟<br/>We loved our dining experience at Tiamo. We ordered a Marinara Pasta and the Four Mushroom Special Pizza to share. Not only was the portion size generous, the pasta was cooked to al dente and was flavoured well. The pizza was also dellllicious and had us craving seconds. In addition to the wine, it was a delightfully filling meal.<br/><br/>Service: 🌟🌟🌟🌟<br/>We walked in and were seated promptly. Staff were friendly and polite when offering recommendations and our meals did not take long to arrive.<br/><br/>Price: 🌟🌟🌟🌟<br/>Fairly well priced for the quantity and quality of our meals. We'd love to be back next time we're in the area.

Love love love ti Amos. It is our go to place if we ever can’t decide on what to eat. Everything is delicious and priced well. We especially love the way they make their ortolana pizza and lemon ricotta cheesecake.
AaronN
We found the food here (me and my partner each got a pasta) average and a bit under-seasoned. However what really brought down was the poor service, slow inattentive, and far more focused on some tables rather than others.
Pete
The place to go for delicious, quick, authentic and high quality italian food.  Rigatoni Beef Ragu and cheesecake are top notch.  Service is lightning quick but not do not expect happy waiters.  A place we keep going back to for a quick, delicious lunch.  Prices average.

Tiamo is a classic Italian restaurant we keep returning to! The pasta is great, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is reasonably priced. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait to get a table, but I suppose that just shows it has a lot of fans!

I don’t understand how this restaurant has a 4 rating!? It was average at best. Can’t complain about the service as there was none. Our pizza arrived (which we clearly stated we wanted as a shared entree) and about 30 seconds later all our mains arrived. There was no room on the stupidly narrow table we were seated on to even fit the mains on there, but the waitress seemed to squeeze them on without hesitation. The pizza was soggy and not cooked through. We ordered the capretto (goat) with polenta which came out rather dismal looking with some vegetables which were barely cooked. The grilled calamari salad was soggy and lacking flavour. The only redeemable aspect of this dinner was the marinara pasta dish, the sauce was tasty but there wasn’t much seafood to be found on the plate. Disappointing experience considering the positive reviews on this page.

Will come back for:<br/>+ Mushroom chowder<br/>+ Spaghetti Don Giovanni <br/>+ Pizza Calabrese <br/><br/>You can taste the love and care in every mouthful of food in this place. The chowder was a delight, lotsa of texture from the potato, champagne mushroom, and cream of mushroom. And the accompanying bread was loaded with melted cheese and herbs. The spaghetti was moorish, loaded with rich tomato sauces, herbs and well cooked mussels and vongole. And the pizza was spicy, generous and heaped with herbs, cheese and great flavors. The food here is homey, rustic and speaks through it’s flavors. The service was quick (for a packed restaurant), the prices very reasonable, and the wait staff friendly. This place is a stand out amongst so many others in “Little Italy”.

We came here for the first time and ordered lamb shank, Tbone steak, garlic bread and Alla panna. The waitress brought two dishes of meat to us first without telling what they were, & we immediately tried them cuz we were really hungry. Another dish came later with meat as well, which made us confused while we just ordered two dishes of meat. Btw the wrong dish (rolled veal) was so good that we were happy to pay for it. Mentioning about the wrong delivery with a waiter (we would like to pay for it and ask what it was so we could order next time), we got shocked when he asked us why we ate the dish that we didn’t order. Well, we would have never touched it if we had known what it was. In this case, an apology was much better than a question to your customers, cuz it was your fault to place the wrong dish on our table. Anyway, the food was amazing, so we do hope the service would be improved!

One of the older venues in lygon st that hasn't lost any of its character. The pizza's are among some of the best on the street but the real winner for me is the eggplant parmigiana which reminds me of moussaka. Also being on the north end of the street it isn't awash with heros and chockos

Good food and reasonably priced. Service was a bit slow but once we got a new waiter it was good. Food came out fast. Would be back again because $20 for a good seafood marinara is awesome.

Situated in famous lygon street, you cannot miss this place.<br/><br/>The crowd always tempts you like a magnetic force and guess what, their food is commendable!<br/><br/>I wouldn’t say it’s anything out of the box Italian but it surely is a great Italian joint.<br/><br/>Service was great as well, even on a busy Friday night! Can’t wait for the next trip down to try the rest of the menu!

Love the pizza here so damn much. Even tho the portion is not that generous but is really tasty. The pizza base is so chewy. <br/><br/>We also tried the tortellini with marinara sauce, average level, but the price is so affordable and only 20 for this big portion of seafood!<br/><br/>Would definitely come back, highly recommended.

Had the T bone, mushroom risotto, lasagne, tortellini and pizza here, the t bone steak and lasagne was good, highly recommend both of them. Risotto was a little too dry and the sciscelle pizza we had was just average, but my friends and i all agreed that we would go back for the lasagne.

The best place for pasta on Lygon street, food is always good and the place has a great atmosphere. Be prepared to wait for a table but don't worry they rotate quickly. Try the marinara and you cant go past the garlic bread.

Everything i have ever eaten here has been amazing! Service is good. Food is spot on every time. Prices are decent. What more could you want?

Everything is good here from pasta, to lasagne to dessert to coffee. Service is usually quite good and it’s always busy, lunch and dinner but usually easy to get a table because they make the food so quickly people are in and out

This is a great spot, the pasta was sensational, pizza very good and the service flawless. Terrific atmosphere, great value, a treasure on Lygon.

Tiamo is your stereotypical Italian restaurant- expect wooden chairs and tables, dimmed lighting, parmesan and cracked pepper and all your favourite Italian foods. I got the penne al ragu while my mother got a margarita puzza. Service was quick and pleasant, with little personality and all efficiency. The food arrived in around 15 to 20 minutes despite it being very busy. My penne seemed like a substitute for a traditional bolognese and although it was nice, it wasn't anything hugely outstanding. The pizza was great- wildfires and crispy with gooey mozzarella. Go to Tiamo for Italian comfort food and predictability, but don't expect anything surprising or out of the box.

Probably the worst pasta I’ve ever had. Ordered the lasagna and tortellini and I could literally compare it pre made frozen pasta from a supermarket that’s been reheated like 3 times where it has turned into mush. If I was Italian I’d be insulted from how bad the pasta was.<br/>The owner was at the register when I was paying. He seemed really unfriendly, no acknowledgement, no ‘thank you’, nothing.

Asked for Vegan options but the waiter replied "What's Vegan?". After telling him what it is, he got really grumpy and rushed the order snatching menu off my hands while I was still looking at it. Still finished the okay tasting lunch and had an upset tummy for the rest of the day. Staff seem to take ages to wait tables too even when there's not many people on a weekday. Nice ambience tho.

The pizza has the same consistency as the cardboard box it came in, but arguably the cardboard box has more flavour. However in Tiamo’s defence the pizzazz is in the pasta people. Non Ti Amo.

You know the pasta is good when we go back two days in a row. Rich with flavour and perfect portion sizes. Also available upon request is chilli oil which I assume is home made. Definitely recommend putting on your pasta if you like the heat.<br/>Also the rosemary pita bread is delicious.<br/>

Good service - we were attended to quickly and our food came out in good time despite being a very busy Saturday night. Both the pastas and garlic bread we ordered were tasty and well-priced - $20 for a good main on Lygon St is definitely a plus. I'll be sure to come back sometime.

I had a grewt dining experience here. Highlight dish was the mushroom with truffle oil pizza. Simple but the flavours were such a great combination. Pastas were also super tasty and reasonably priced. Would recommend it to others.
