Dinner between shows, this venue was perfectly situated for a quick, but delicious bite. The staff were friendly, the meals quick and all tasted deliciously fresh. Water was topped up readily and it was easy to get the staff’s attention when needed.
Decent pretheatre dining. Really great stone fire pizza with lovely toppings. Calamari was a little chewy but the salad dressing with is was lovely. My main downside was that entre and main all came out together so our lovely pizza was cold by the time we had 2 entre to share. Nice atmosphere, polite and attentive staff and decent value for money in the city
Everything we ordered, ie pork belly pizza, porterhouse steak and Napoli pasta, was good except the pasta. Pasta was just mediocre for the price we paid.
Pros- Good location .Nice ambience. Good service . Friendly Staff.
Cons - Value of food and taste was average.
There are better Italian restaurants around.
Beautiful food, friendly service and just around the corner from the Princess Theatre.
The pumpkin and ricotta tortellini is very tasty, accompanied with pine nuts and burnt butter.
The pannacotta was very fresh and a great palette cleanser.
Very much enjoyed our entrees and main meals in this lovely resturant, friendly service and stylish decor. We will be back here. Joshua Waddell
My girlfriend and I dined here recently and found the food was great. So far i cannot fault the service or offerings. My pizza was delicious and my girlfriend enjoyed her rissotto. The Aranchini was amazing too as a starter. I would definitely recommend.
Had a pleasantly surprising Saturday night dinner at Mezzo this weekend. We had booked for 6:30pm and the restaurant was only partially filled. Plenty of elbow room where we were seated, which I miss sometimes and a pleasant vibe and decor.
For entree we ordered the Antipasto grazing platter for 2, which promised cured meats, Italian cheeses, arancini, oysters, chickpea hummus & olives. The only thing missing from the platter appeared to be a portion of bread or crackers to have with the dip. We had assumed that the fancy bread plate with the butter portion on the table meant something was coming to fill our expectation of bread, but unfortunately, the bread never arrived, and the butter portion and empty bread plate were removed from our table unused upon the arrival of our entree. That mild disappointment aside, we moved onto the getting stuck into the platter which was a genuinely wonderful selection of antipasto. The oysters were some of the best I had eaten and the hummus had a pleasant tangy, kick to it that I enjoyed.
For mains, I ordered the house made tortellini filled with cumin spiced pumpkin and ricotta, sitting in a walnut cream and mixed nut & butter glaze & Mr B had the calamari salad which was semolina dusted and shallow fried with tomato, fennel, celery, snow peas, parsley and almond. Both of the mains were delicious and fresh tasting. The texture or my pasta was wonderful, and very pretty to look at. My B had no complaints about his salad.
Very pleasant meal and good service! Would highly recommend for a date night or somewhere to impress the parents with a casual, but refined vibe. Still wondering what happened to my bread though...
Attended Mezzo for the pre-theatre dinner option on a busy Saturday night. Ordered an shared entree, main and dessert.
Throughly enjoyed the shared entree, the arancini was tasty and not a ball of dried rice which other restaurants tend to serve.
Would highly recommend the slow braised beef cheek and the potato puree was delightful (if you enjoy hearty red meat). Otherwise, the slow cooked 'confit' chicken is a good option if you don't enjoy eating red meat.
Overall, would highly recommend this restaurant if you want a good and quick dinner before a show. Staff were very attentive and the restaurant was an excellent place to eat, converse and enjoy some wine.
Great value and service, food was awesome too, couldn't fault it. Will come back and be recommending to friends. Beef cheek is insanely good.
Great for pre-theatre crowd and for comedy festival goers.
Went for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful evening. The food was great and a reasonable price, coffee was good and the service was smart and very friendly. Everything we could have asked for from a restaurant!
Thanks Mezzo
Where do I begin to describe this wonderful evening? The mango panna cotta was the very definition of food art. The service was exemplary. The schnitzel portion was wonderfully generous. I can't even believe I've never been to this place before! Couldn't fault it. The dessert special a chocolate and blueberry pizza was to die for
Not an extensive menu but what we ordered was all excellent, good service without being overly attentive (had to ask for coffee and the bill), well priced and enjoyable relaxed atmosphere. Will return in the future.

Best Italian food ever in Melbourne... Fresh dishes and good atmosphere... I suggest every one to try it... For an amazing experience in a typical Italian restaurant ...
Well worth heading here after 7.30pm once the pre-theatre crowd clears out. Really nice food with an Italian influence, and reasonably priced as well.
My partner celebrated at Mezzo and I booked a table for 14 in advance. I had to change the number of guests a couple of times and each time I called, Silvio was friendly and courteous and did not sound like I was being a nuisance. On the night of the dinner, Silvio happened to serve us! He was not only nice on the phone, but was also very witty and humorous in person! Our dining experience was definitely enhanced by Silvio's excellent level of customer service. Oh the food and ambiance was nothing short of pleasant. Will definitely return.
Fantastic modern Italian food with enough options to please the whole family. The owner is very hands on and it shows, plenty of pride in what he has created. If you book for a late dinner don't be afraid when it is empty, there was most certainly a crowd earlier for the pre theatre rush.
Italiano was the order of the day and Mezzo was the eatery of choice. Mezzo is a beautiful higher end establishment. It is decked out rather splendidly - has an impressive bar, and the wine chamber is very nice indeed. The menu has a very decent range ..prices are reasonable. No risotto on the menu but the Swine loved the fettuccine marinara - generous anounts of seafood was a win. A very very nice and satisfying meal - pasta cooked to perfection.. Staff were also chirpy, attentive and friendly - SWINE APPROVED!
Had dinner with friends at Mezzo. Service was great and professional. Food also was at high standard. Atmosphere was nice not too noisy which I like. I will definitely go back.
Had the pre theatre sharing plates at $20 each for two, plus a bottle of wine, it was excellent. Service friendly and professional. And they do 'pints' of beer which pleased my husband!
OYSTER HAPPY HOUR! Happy hour has returned with half price oysters from 5pm to 6.30pm. Service and wine selection were good. If you like oysters I suggest you try it.
A quick meal before Fiddler on the Roof. Great location and great staff - friendly and efficient. The restaurant was almost full but we had excellent service from all the staff. Enjoyed a selection of entrees to share - a perfect start to a great night out. Will definitely recommend to others.
A friend was visiting from interstate and I saw the 50% off deal via TripAdvisor, so we thought why not. We had a great time. The mixed olives were delicious and just right with a gin and tonic (using real tonic, not that post-mix stuff). My scallop and asparagus risotto was very nice, and my friend's pasta (the "trofie amatriciana")was declared delicious - quite a recommendation given she just got back from 3 months in Italy with her Italian-Australian husband. Prices are very reasonable, wine is served in a generous pour, and it's a nice space - would be very happy to come back and pay full price. Thanks for a great night.
The best meal my wife and I have had in Melbourne in years. We went there last night and ordered bruschetta and pizza and it was absolutely delicious and well priced. The service is what impressed us the most.. We literally could not finish our table water before it was being topped up, and the meals were served quickly with very friendly wait staff. We loved it so much we had to go back again tonight to order more from the menu. Tonight we tried the bruschetta again, linguini bolognese (best in Melbourne) and their chocolate and blueberry pizza with coffee. Again the service was faultless and the restauranteur Silvio and his staff were very hospitable. We will be recommending this restaurant to all our friends, and are pleased we have found a 'local' Italian restaurant with a great vibe, service and food (not to mention their beer and wine!!) Thanks again!!
Loverly meal! Had a special for $39 per head for 3 course meal. Tasty share platter, calamari for entree. Mains and deserts were delicious :). Will be back....
Dinner service on a Fri was prompt and attentive. They ask if you are going to a show and have some pre theatre sets to get you on your way. They are BYO wine and have a decent and reasonably priced wine list. The antipasto plate was very good although it initially looked sparse -- the flavours and combinations were well done. Mains were a pork belly and a pizza. The pork belly verged on dry and seemed greasy even for a pork belly and with a slightly burnt flavour; it could have used a bit more sauce beyond the decorative drip. The accompaniments were very good. The pizza was good but not up with the best although was excellent value. The coffee was most excellent.
Love it. Went to Mezzo the other day for lunch. We shared two pizzas, best I've had in a long time. Great quality and affordable. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Will be back next time I'm in the city.
Saturday night I had my mothers birthday at mezzo and was overly impressed with the quality of the food and service. The host who I think is the owner was very helpful and provided us with an amazing package which left our guests full and satisfied
Overall, Mezzo is a great, reliable and quality place to enjoy some food, some wine and some good company. If you’re with a bunch of friends – the sharing menu is a brilliant option (I’ve had some really good feedback on it, but haven’t tried it myself). The staff are friendly and down to earth, and there’s a spirit of generosity to the place...For my main, I had the snapper – and it was brilliant. A relatively light meal from the menu, it was perfect after the prawn and pork entrée. The snapper was firm, yet moist; and the salad was lively, fresh and aromatic – just the way I like it!

...the best outside of Italy, tiramisu della nonna.
Mezzo has a warm sophistication with white walls and linen offset by dark timber furnishings, black curtains, boudoir style red fabric light fittings and lots of attention to detail.
...we’ve had a brilliant time, couldn’t have felt more welcome and will be back as well as trying out their new venture Mister Bianco in Kew.
Our table came to the mutual decision that the meal was satisfying yet there was no ‘wow’ factor.
Perfect service. Nice food too!. The only reason myself and two friends wanted to come here was because it was BYO and we had a special bottle of champagne to share. But there are many reasons why we'll be back! As soon as our waiter seated us without saying a word he quickly grabbed the glasses for our drinks and put the bottle on ice. That set the tone for the excellent service for the night. I ordered a pizza and it was delicious, very few toppings and delicious homemade base, much like those in Italy. All three of us enjoyed our meals and thank you to our lovely waiter (sorry, I can't remember your name!). Will be back!
Delightful!. I found this delightful restaurant whilst looking online for a place to eat near the theatres at the top end of town. The food was absolutely amazing and they cater for gluten-free diners. They even present tasty little gluten-free buns of bread (just ask!). Always great service and every meal I've eaten there since has been just as impressive. The staff remember you as well. Excellent customer service.
Good quiet place. Went on Tuesday, nice food, attentive service. Good for nice quiet night out.
Great for private parties. We had a small wedding celebration dinner at Mezzo in March this year and were very happy with the service and quality of the food. The owner even tailored a special menu to our budget - was great value for money! Stand out dishes include the wagyu beef carpaccio antipasto and the steaks which were cooked perfectly. Will definitely go again to try the pork belly and pasta dishes. Nice spot for a drink too as you don't have to yell to hear the conversation.
Loved it. We went to Mezzo a few Saturday nights ago. We were very impressed. The food was beautiful and the staff were extremely attentive, well informed yet discrete. As we were leaving I asked the barman if I could speak to the owner (the very polite barman even offered us water while they went to find him). I spoke to the owner to let him know how happy we were with everything and how fabulous the staff were. He was (obviously) happy to receive our comments in person and let me know that how much he appreciates feedback. He seemed to be very passionate about his restaurant which is a wonderful thing to see. I look forward to dining there again.
Great food, excellent service-our waitress Alison was exceptional, will definitely be back! Thank you for the great service, highly recommended!
Love love Mezzo, left our meal choice to the staff twice now and haven't been disappointed...great wine list...will definitely be back.
Great location, food and service. Called in here last night, very elegant and resonably priced tried the pork belly, was cooked to perfection, service was amazing and the place had a real warm and inviting atmosphere. kudos to the the management on a great venue.
Last Friday night was preferably after Italian that allowed BYO in the CBD; Mezzo came up trumps on both fronts .. and then turned out to also provide terrific food + service. I'll be going back, particularly for the best shared calamari starter ever; yu-um!!
Relaxing atmosphere. Good service, food was lovely - not big servings. Convenient location to accommodation and theatres. Would eat here again.
We stayed across the road in a large group. Mezzo was a great location to all meet, have a quick drink bite to eat and head off!
Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. A must
Getting a table on NY eve at the very last minute can be quite difficult. We were lucky to a get a table set up for 10. We had a really great time and weren't rushed to order. $55 set menu per head was great for value for money. Food was great, service was great, food was nicely paced out. Thank you Mezzo
My partner and I came here for NYE dinner. We started with an antipasto array for 2. Then a main each. Great tasty fresh food and really generous serves. Terrific value for money. They were very busy, of course being NYE, but the service was outstanding and all the staff lovely. They do a pre-theatre deal too ideal for the location. I would have added a bit of live music for the occasion. Definately recomend them. Be hungry as they feed you very well!
Another delicious meal at Mezzo! Having been a couple of times before, I was keen to introduce it to some friends who had not yet been. We shared a selection of entrees, mains and desserts (highlights including the salmon croquettes, lamb for two and that Tiramisu to die for!) We were certainly well looked after, our gluten-free friend having no troubles finding options and our water (and wine!) glasses were topped up efficiently throughout the evening. Spoilt for choice and at a very reasonable price, everyone should stop and visit Mezzo for a taste of Sicily!
Excellent!! Had 3 course pre theatre menu. The food was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. My steak & my mate's veal schnitzel were both cooked to perfection. Every dish was very tasty. Tiramisu was to die for. The service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
Casual italian. Except the steak is a bit over cooked, everything at mezzo is pretty good value, friendly staff and nice environment.
My friend and I had a fantastic experience here last night. The food was of a very high standard. We will return
Greeted by friendly staff. Clean restaurant. Arinchini balls were amazing. Our pasta dishes were outstanding. Pannicotta was delicious. Prices were reasonable. Overall a great experience and would love to come back. The Boys
Flavoursome and interesting food and good variety. Matched to excellent wines. Service very professional, attentive and unobtrusive. the venue is warm, welcoming and comfortable. Shown was an entrée of Arancini, Rolled Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana.
Had the grazing platter to share whilst waiting for a show to start at the theatre. It was exactly what we needed! Pricey, but you get what you pay for 🥂
A very nice casual dining experience. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. I really enjoyed the environment of the restaurant and the price was reasonable given we had 3 people. We didn't try the BYO wine, but the wine they had available was nice as well - very nice place, would reccomend
My son and I enjoyed an early dinner here in between sessions of Harry Potter at the princess theatre. It’s ideally located if you need a quick bite to eat near the theatre. We booked online too which was great as I wasn’t sure how busy it would be with everyone trying to eat dinner between shows. Service was fast and food was great, plenty of options for the kids and very kid friendly. It’s not super cheap but you get what you pay for and it’s worth it.
