The food here was fantastic and the people were very friendly, loved how this place was in an easy location to get to but also hidden.
Highly recommend. I will be coming back for sure.
Excellent service with friendly staff who are very attentive. The pizza was one of the best we've had and the tiramisu was an original recipe with real mascarpone!! Well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. Thank you to all the staff
Every time I come to Melbourne this is a must eat place. Great food and service. I love it.
Food is amazing! Regarding the pizza, it is the best pizza I ever eaten in Australia!!! Lovely service!
I was very worried when our old favourite La Citta was replaced by Il Tempo 2. But I didn't need to be. The food (pizza this time), service and coffee were all excellent. So was the wine. We will be back.
Lovely glass of wine and a delicious classic Italian woodfired cheese pizza great staff too and a awesome location for people watching
Nice little busy Italian restaurant. Devine food. Spot on wine choice from our waitress
Excellent food fast service great little pasta and pizza cafe/restaurant
We visited this quaint little restaurant over the weekend having come from Sydney. We had their Nutella pizza and it was THE BEST!! Not too sweet, perfectly balanced with the strawberries and ice cream and the base was amazing! Staff are soo friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was magic. Thank you - we will be back!
Awesome food glad we stopped. Would recommend them to everyone
A hidden gem amongst the busy streets in the Melbourne CBD. A small restaurant with quality food. The risotto with chicken and mushroom was the best risotto I've had so far in Victoria and the barbecue chicken pizza was equally delicious. The staff were kind and very polite! If I had to criticise one thing it would be the lack of options to choose from. Overall a delightful experience!
Simple choice of Spaghetti and Meatballs for lunch turned out to be satisfying meal. The price I felt was fairly reasonable considering the location and the portion was quite generous. The Napoli sauce was flavorful without being too salty nor did it have any hints of MSG. The pasta was well cooked al dente. I liked that they offered the parmesan cheese separately rather than piling it on top of the spaghetti like many other restaurants.I only have some slight doubts that the meatballs were 100% beef because the fine and consistent texture on the inside tells me otherwise. Furthermore, they were slightly dry when eaten alone but did accompany the pasta quite well.
Great Vegetarian Option :)
After a bit of skipping at the State Library to burn off my big breakfast I came back to DeGraves Street hungry for more... it was lunchtime after all. I thought I would give Il Tempo a go as they seem to have a lot of good options from pizza, pasta, risottos and more. I chose the Gnocchi Pesto as I sat outside and soaked up the vibrant colorful character of DeGraves Street.
The staff were nice and when the meal came out it looked very appetizing indeed. I tried to capture it as best I could but some food just doesn't look appealing photographed. Oh well. It was very tasty and light which was good because breakfast was a heavier affair. If you're looking for a great vegetarian option or just good pasta / pizza then give Il Tempo a go. :)

Very authentic Italian restaurant in Degraves Street. The wait staff and kitchen staff are italian and hence promise beautifully cooked food. We had the Arrancini, Carbonara and Salami Pizza. Service was quick. Ambience was inviting. Pasta was perfectly Al Dente. Would love to visit again.
Was strolling through the city looking for a cosy place that served affordable pasta when I came across Il Tempo. The first thing you'll notice is the lovely service, which I especially appreciated because I was eating alone.
I was seated at a cosy little outdoor spot, so I got to enjoy people-watching all of lively Degraves Street.
The waitress recommended the fusilli alla norma as a great vegetarian option, which it definitely was! The eggplant and cheese made it a hearty vegetarian choice, although fresh herbs would definitely kick it up a notch.
Can't wait to come back and try the pizza, desserts or sides!
So simple and yet enjoyable ....
I'm referring to the $12 Nutella Pizza and one of the best Tiramisu according to our Italian friend Sara, you can't argue with that ....small traditional Trattoria in town - Degraves Lane, old world Italian ....
Latte was okay too.
Great, authentic Italiano service from the team, thank you for an enjoyable night. I'm sure we'll be back to try the rest of the Menu. JT-07/06/2017
Despite being really busy on a cold rainy autumn day the service was fantastic and the wait time for our food was short. We ordered entree size pasta & risotto, lasagna as well as a kids margarita. The best thing IlTempo has done is rent out the cafe across from the original which means more tables, toilets and bar of delicious wines.
TWO WORDS: GARLIC BREAD
GET THE GARLIC BREAD STARTER! There's absolutely nothing to fault it for. It's fresh focaccia bread topped with garlic and mozzarella..... it cannot get any better than that. It was seasoned perfectly and the price was also reasonable. GET IT!
On to the main courses. I ordered the Greek salad and it was seasoned really nicely as well, far from the plain and boring Greek salad you'd usually see in other restaurants. However, they do have a pretty heavy hand with the salt. The Chilli prawns pasta was not bad, the portions were generous (which is always good).
All in all, id come back just for the garlic bread. Yes, I'd even say that it's one of the best garlic breads I've ever had in my life! That's the win in my book.
Lovely, authentic & tasty food. The staff were charming and helpful. The pizza is delicious & the prices are very reasonable. Right in the laneway, so you can dine in and people watch, or order your pizza to go.
The service was so good I feel bad giving it a bad score. Waiter here was so delightful and attentive. Food was so below average and was nothing special! A real dissapointment for degraves street, city
5 stars for the coffee (provided it's made in Il Tempo (not Il Tempo 2 - by the regular coffee man that's always there). I would rate this, the BEST, yes, the best coffee in Melbourne...my mum who grew up in Melbourne is a bigger coffee snob than me and she would agree :) Food's not amazing, it's good...just not amazing :) but who cares the coffee is :p The owner is lovely, he hires wonderful, well presented staff, usually with a beautiful European accent so you feel like you're in Europe :) I've been here for breakfast about 10 times and the coffee is consistently great (except the one time it was made by a different person on the Il Tempo 2 side - which was good but not great).
After a very long day, which was finished just a bit before 10pm, I was looking for a place to eat in the CBD (pretty rare to find places at this time in Melbourne). Fortunately, we found this place and were the last costumers of the day as the very friendly floor manager said. Pizza was great, thin dough with the proper Italian cheese. Wine on the glass was good too as well as the salad. Service was so friendly and for such a good location, this sums up to be a really great restaurant and we hope to come back.
I ordered the Lamb Shank, and I think was one of the best lamb shank I ever tasted. Perfectly cooked, the gravy was a little bit on the sweet side, and the mash potato was silky smooth. But on the disappointment was on the kids side, the kids pizza was a little bit under seasoning. Overall I would go back just to have the Lamb Shank.
Mmmmm date night! We had dinner at a little restaurant (and I mean little... Was pretty crowded, great atmosphere though) in Degraves St... And it was SO GOOD!!We both ordered off the specials board, I got the pan seared barramundi with the crunchiest skin I've ever had from a fish 😋.. and my fiancé got the ravioli with crispy pancetta. Would 100% recommend this place if you're looking for some good traditional food with a modern twist. Everything was very decently priced too. Definitely coming back. ❤️
Great dough but average toppings. Calzone was probably the pick. Go for something simple with minimal topping. Decor is simple. Location great. Won't rush back but you could do worse in the area.
My friend & I went here when the sun was out & Melbourne's weather was being friendly (which is a bit rare)! We sat on a table outside and was served by some of the nicest people we've met on a restaurant in Melbourne! For the food, both of us ordered the spaghetti carbonara which is so delishhh cos it's smothered with cheeseee (but so massive) but we ended up finishing it bcs it's so good even though we're both so full afterwards.
Lovely staff, great food and beautiful atmosphere! Very tasty Italian dishes- will come again! Loved the waiter from Saturday night, so kind and very helpful!
Very good wine by the glass. We had the pasta for a quick lunch. Good value. Nice attentive owner making us feel very welcome. Lots of people watching in degraves st
We went here a couple of times while visiting Melbourne. This was out favorite place, the poached eggs were perfect. The smashed avocado with rocket was delicious!!
Staff were wonderful also. A couple of more dollars more expensive than some of the others but worth it.
Thank you for the wonderful breakfast :)
Went for breakfast today.. it was good! Food was nice, tasty and the staff very friendly. The only thing was that the glasses they bring you with the water have a weird smell.. not sure if it's the water or the glasses! Rather than that was a good experience!
Casual drop in choice wandering through the heart of breakfast territory in the CBD. As the launchpad for a day of sweetness I went for the French toast. When it arrived I was so underwhelmed by the presentation I didn't take a pic and it didn't auger well for the eating.
The French toast sat in the middle of the plate with a separate pile of bacon and a small dish of strawberries and maple syrup off to the side akin to a plating by dear old grandma. Anyway, once I had finished using my "Breakfast plating for Dummies" skills and tucked in I found a delicious combination was to be had. Given other plates on my and other tables were so well presented this aberration seemed odd but hey we got there in the end and coffee was good. I have no idea what it all means....
After having to leave without eating at another establishment with my wife today... this place was a breath of fresh air, to say the least. 1min wait at 12pm, straight up to upper level window seat (they said it was their best seat) We were kindly told they where busy and there was approx 15min wait, no problems. The food that we ordered came: poached eggs with a side of avo, bacon and spinach; my wife ordered the lentel soup with garlicy bread - both where fantastic! Eggs spot on, bacon seemed to be smoked and cooked to perfection (highly recommended). Cappuccino could have had a little less froth, but hey maybe that's their style. My wife really enjoyed the lentel soup and the tasty side bread. Service was very attentive if not one of the best I've had, this is my second visit here and we will be back, well done!
Amazing customer service and the food was incredible. I had the pulled pork special and it was delicious and great value for money. Can't wait to come back next time I'm in Melbourne
Desert is really nice. The boss looks like Orlando Bloom!
Great seafood pasta.... I had a supplier who gave us $90.00 voucher to dine at Il Tempo so 3 of us went to order something for lunch. We ordered 3 seafood pasta and a brown cake dessert (if I'm not mistaken). Food was great! We love the pasta and service was great.
For the price we were dining in this little place- it's even better than dining at those classy restaurants at the yarra.
Though it's along the alleys of Degraves St but it's good.
Pumpkin Gnocchi with Sage and Blue Cheese Sauce and a Creme Brûlée. The best Italian I've ever had
Authentic Italian. What a wonderful Italian restaurant. Authentic atmosphere with absolutley delicious food. Good selection of wine and imported (red) Peroni available. Best Lemoncello I have every had. No doubt one of Melbourne's best Italian restaurants.
Amazing!. In my opinion Il Tempo is one of those places that can become ur favorite hangout quiet instantly, warm service, resonable pricing for the rather up-prized degraves lane, no happy hours though compared to a lot of places just across and around..But a cool outdoor sitting, great selection of wine and delicious food. Ceasar Salad and Bruschettas were excellent. Also the skinny latte was superb!
Amazing choice for a business dinner. I wasn't in a hurry for dinner, but did need to get back to my room to get ready for the next day. Il Tempo provided a convenient and absolutely lovely option for me. The staff were likeable and helped me throughout my meal. The food itself was stunning with an almost flawless meal presented to me. I enjoyed a wine or two, indulged in a coffee and dessert before heading back to my hotel.
Il Tempo provided great service and even better food.
I love this place. I was invited in whilst glancing over the menu and I’m glad their charm worked, as it started what would be a great diner on a night I felt like being indulged.
The menu is small, but with the emphasis being placed on the sesame crusted salmon, that was all I needed to know. I had a moscato as an aperitif and a chardy with the salmon. As much as they worked well together, it was all about the salmon. A demonstration in subtlty - just cooked through for a tender, delicious fish with a mild crunch of the toasted sesame.
I promised to return with my wife so I can share a great meal like this.
My new wishlist would feature Il Tempo. Being in town for a quick work trip, I wanted something for dinner that was fresh, relaxing, where I could trust the wine list and do some people watching. I did a lap around the lanes, arcades and malls and was happy to decide upon Il Tempo on DeGraves St. It had a bustle that showed that it had a good following and a spare table just for me.
The manager and waitress were successful in talking up a favoured salmon dish. I asked for a moscato while I waited - delicious - did some people watching of the activity in this lovely laneway and listened to the staff chatter in Italian. After a brief wait, the salmon came out with a glass of chardonnay. It was crusted in black sesame and served with a small side of brocolini. I was warned that another customer had found it too rare, but I trusted the chef and took it the way it was intended. But it wasn’t rare at all. It was still a little translucent in the middle, allowing the flesh to be moist and buttery. Any more cooking would have started to develop the stronger salmon flavours, but it was perfectly subtle. It disappeared from my plate in no time and I had to start browsing the dessert menu as my appetite had been woken up by such great food.
I ordered a coffee and a strudel. The coffee was perfect but again gone all too quickly and the strudel was cooked really well with great pastry and well flavoured apple & raisin filling. It came with sauces that included a chocolate syrup. I suggested back to the staff that the chef consider changing this to a raspberry sauce or something with a bit of bite. ..That is the only thing that could be improved upon. Il Tempo is an easy 41⁄2 stars for the category of casual restaurant or bistro.
I’m keen to bring my family here to share such an awesome find of a place.
Coffee was fab. Service excellent. BUT the food was average.
Il yumo. Satday night with the girls. birthday dinner. absolutely loved it!
vibe - cool ( on degraves afterall ), wasnt altogether that busy. Not a high class restauarnt - more comfortable and laid back.
service - was friendly -top notch waitress 'alicia' -despite our late arrival all the waiters were friendly, and attentive.
food- entrées yum bruschetta, garlic bread and prawns. deee licious! mains consisted of lasagne, pesto pasta, cabonara, the barramundi special and... three other pastas (forgotten which). Good proportions, filling & great flavours.
desert- crème brûlée yum yum yum.
cost - $$/$$$$ very reasonable for the area.
definitely recommend!!
I went in late Friday night. We had a Ragu pasta and duck risotto. Both fabulous!!! The Prawns - average. The garlic bread on the side was great for dipping - but the sauce was a bit bland for me. Then it was tiramisu time - which was AWESOME. Oh and lemoncello
Perfetto Cornetto. I'll never get tired of the Degraves and Centre laneways between Flinders and Collins -- so many great places to have coffee and pastries. Il Tempo is another. They did me up a fine flat white, on the stronger side the way I like them. Reminded me of Italy. Even better was the pistachio cornetto, something Il Tempo makes in-house. I thought it was just going to be a croissant that was straight, not curved, with pistachios on top. But there's a squeeze of creamy pistachio filling, similar to almond paste, inside down the centre. At $6, it's pricier than a croissant, but I'm willing to pay up for something that good.
Went for breakfast with a group of 14. We booked in advance and they arranged a set menu for us so that we wouldn't have to worry about it taking too long and the billing would be easy. The service when we arrived was fantastic - they took great care of us, with flexibility on the inclusions of our menu and bringing us extra food while we waited. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was great too. Would definitely go back.
What an amazing italian restaurant! My girlfriend and I loved the dinner we had. I absolutely recommend lasagne and passion margarita. Awesome organic coffee!! Marvellous place and friendly staff. Definitely coming back
What a great little Italian in a neat authentic lane. Loved the Risotto. Will be back.
Love it. Great Italian atmosphere. Good food and friendly staff. Definitely going back soon. Love the feeling "to be in Italy" between friends enjoying the love for food and fun, sharing a really good time in a really nice restaurant! "When in Rome"...!
Great experience. Visiting Melbourne and we were advised to go to De Graves Lane. Il Tempo caught our eye. We were met by an enthusiastic waiter and we decided to sit outside for dinner. The wine was great and the main course delightful. But the Creme Brulee was to die for. That alone is a reason to return. See you when we next return to your lovely city to try the other meals on the menu.
Great Melbournian Brunch. Beautiful cafe on Degraves street and the friendliest service from the waiters. Served up great coffee and yummy breakfast/ brunch . Had the eggs florentine and it was delicious! Awesome spot to do some people watching and soak up the feeling of being in Melbourne.
Great little place.. We had dinner here last night - Wagu lamb pasta and chicken on mash. Very good, both dishes. Great atmosphere and service too. Definitely would go back when next in Melbourne.
Thanks @Il Tempo! Delicious food and great hospitality!
🍕Food was delicious. Wood fired and the dough was so so good!
🌆 Located on the beautiful Degraves Street, amongst other great restaurants.
💰 Price was fair for quality pizzas.
🤵 Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Great food. Lousy service but I can’t blame the restaurant overall since it was clean and tasty. We went early and it was relatively empty. Server was rushing our order, then was unfindable the rest of the meal. For 10 minutes I tried waving someone down for more wine. Their loss and mine. But this must have been an irregularity. Would’ve been a 5 star review otherwise.
Great location in lane way opposite Flinders Street station . Nice authentic Melbourne building that hasn't had modern make overs like many places in town . Food and service were great and highly recommend while in city for lunch or dinner time . To try and try again . Great
Perfect meals, generous size, great coffee! I had the French toast and it was delectable. Just the right amount of sweet to not make one feel sickly in the morning so you could enjoy it. Paired with salty bacon, this dish was a winner :) others enjoyed smashed avo (a classic) and and Eggs Benny (another favourite).
Great lunch spot for a quick pizza and vino. Friendly and attentive service, nice wine and delicious pizza, especially the added mushrooms and a refreshing Greek salad with lots of olives. Would visit again. Images are copyright.
I was in Melbourne for a couple of days and popped in for a Vegan Pizza. It arrived promptly was very tasty with a good selection on toppings including olives. However the base was fantastic, homemade and delicious a real authentic dough. We need more of this simple food cooked well. Do yourself a favour and have a great pizza, cooked well, prompt service and reasonably priced.
Classic Melbourne CBD Italian. Personable, friendly and funny staff and good classic Italian food. Pass look great, though we didn't try it on our first visit. My ragu was a little salty, but I'll still come back - gnocchi was perfect!
