Great food, great service, great view. We only ordered one betel leaf each for entree and could have eaten 6, so fresh and full of flavour. Lucky we had another entree dish. Our mains were green curry and rice and a beef dish with a been sprout salad. We weren't disappointed in any of the food. The passionfruit mojito was a great choice from the cocktail list. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.
Bangpop is one of those lucky finds....sitting on the south wharf not far from dfo it offers a beautiful menu of thai delights....wonderful staff and a welcoming atmosphere...highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

Awesome yummy Thai/SE Asian inspired food, we make a point to visit Bangpop whenever we are in Melbourne. Great atmosphere and decor. The staff are always friendly and helpful (they are happy to go above and beyond and even helped us out with a ticket printing issue for a nearby event!) and the service is speedy. Check them out for sure!!

I'm not into spicy food, but you can request the staff to take out chilli for some of the dishes. The beef curry taste amazing with jasmine rice, the king prawn with snow pea are very similar to Chinese seafood stir fry. The dessert menu could do with few more options, sticky rice pudding are delicious but could be a bit much if you're almost full.
Tasty meal; highly recommend the pad thai and pork belly. Excellent and friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Plenty of space. 100% will be back again!

Great place, great food and great service! Add in a nice view and would definitely come back when in the area again. They have a bucket of duplo for each kid that kept them entertained too. Had the Pad Thai, beef salad and chicken ribs, all really nice and reasonably priced.

Came to BangPop for our second visit. The food speaks upmarket Thai yet the decor and the staff create a more modern casual feel.
Last time we came here we had one of the curries and it was supurb. This time we had the brisket and basil. This was good but I personally think next time I will stick with the curries as they are so good. It is hard to find Thai that isn't just your local suburb Thai but this place really steps it up a notch.
Food comes out fast so perfect for a pre city night out dinner.

We absolutely LOVED the decor of this place! It was such a cool vibe and being on the river is such an extra plus. Such a great date night location and vibe. Bringing my Thai partner to a new spot, I was a bit hesitant as he is very hard to impress, well - he just wants authentic Thai food! Coming here I knew it wouldn’t be completely authentic but some foods had “Issan” like the papaya salad, and the sticky rice, so we were very excited to try them. The papaya salad was underwhelming even for myself as it lacked bold flavours. A lot of reviews noted that the fermented taste was too strong (which I was excited about because THAT is authentic Issan papaya salad flavour!) but it was in actual fact quite bland and lacked a sour, fermented and strong flavour. (Even for me- not of Thai descent!). the pork skewers were super dry and tough and lacked flavour too. But those were the only two things we were disappointed in. We enjoyed the massaman curry and also the chicken ribs and sticky rice. We also took advantage of their happy hour deals! Overall it was a good experience we were just a bit underwhelmed with the skewers and “Issan” style papaya salad. It was deffo not Issan style.

Stumbled upon this place last night and was blown away. The food is just sensational - some of the best Thai I have ever had. The massaman curry was to die for and the pork belly skewers were so tender and juicy! The customer service was fantastic, and if you’re lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, the bartenders are entertaining af.

My favourite restaurant in Melbourne CBD by far! Have been here probably about 5 ish times with different people, it is not cheap but the staff provide you with a fun time. VEGAN OPTIONS! This is a must for me 🌱 The mocktails are thirst quenching and flavoursome, the food comes in a large portion, is fresh and of high quality. Great service, waiter reccomended the perfect order very knowledgeable. I ended up getting the $12 cocktail (happy hour between 3-6) partner got a Coopers pale aile for $6. Will be back 🍹🍻 - only downside no outdoor heaters thats why I havent given it a 5 star.

Came by here for lunch with a bunch of colleagues, and went with their lunch special pork belly salad with a beer on tap. It was a pleasant afternoon by the water and the place was reasonably packed for lunch. Service was friendly, attentive and the food was on point; tasty, crunchy and loads of flavour. Even though the place was busy, food came pretty quickly which is always a good thing. Will definitely be back to try out some of the other dishes.
I had my birthday dinner here and the staff were amazing. The decor was great and felt very Melbourne. I had their Pad Thai and shared the Green Jungle Barramundi Curry. The Pad Thai was not as flavourful as I would have liked but the curry was delicious and the Barra was cooked perfectly. It was also very very spicy (coming from someone who enjoys spicy food). I would highly recommend this place!

Very good Thai food. The flavours are fantastic. The service is very attentive and personable and they read the needs of the table well. The view is beautiful on the river and when the sun goes down at night the outdoor lights create a magical effect. Interesting and yummy cocktail list and they're happy to share their recipes. We had the Tom Yum Siam and Thaigerlily. Delish. The prices are higher than average for Thai food and cocktails at bar prices but you get what you pay for here.

After all these years I’ve finally tried BangPop. I used a 50% off deal on The Fork which was for the set menu. I dined there with two other friends. The set menu had chicken in it and I don’t eat chicken but fortunately the restaurant replaced the chicken wings with a spicy tofu dish and the chicken curry was replaced by a delicious green curry. I was very pleased that they were able to cater for me and impressed that I got my own meals and didn’t need to share like my two other friends 😂 there was so much food! I also liked the papaya salad. The set menu is definitely worth it with a discount. Staff were lovely too 😊
Great place for people watching and looking over the river. Great happy hour with an interesting cocktail list, and the food is good. Seating can be a bit cramped with big groups, but is good for small groups.

Tasty Thai food with generous portions for sharing. One of the few places I have found with Chang Mai noodles on the menu and they were spicy and did not disappoint. The duck red curry was also delicious, and the cocktails pretty good too.
I have visited this place twice and loved the food, it's real thai and probably one of the best you can get in Melbourne. Portions are big as well and good for sharing with family.
Its not just the food but the ambience is good as well looking over yarra river.

Bang-Pop, a traditional Thai restaurant with a focus on spicy, tangy and time-honoured food. Located in the lively, bustling South Wharf district, BangPop is definitely one of the restaurants you should go to for your next Thai hit.
We walked in and we were immediately impressed by the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant. The whole place was buzzing with happy patrons and staff. We absolutely loved the decor even including the Lego bar wall!
Looking at the menu, it was extremely hard to choose from the wide range of options but that’s a problem I don’t mind! We loved how each dish was described with an indicator of how spicy the dish was, whether it was Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian and even with a Celiac Option.
For dinner, we had the Thai-Style Fried Chicken which came with nim jim jeaw sauce. We also had 2 salads called the ‘Crying Tiger Grilled Beef which was served with cucumber, shallots, cherry tomatoes, lemongrass, chilli and herbs. The other salad was the twice cooked Beef Short Ribs which came with bean shoots, cucumber and cashew nut salad.
The Bar menu is huge and varied and we chose the Vodka and Soda as well as their signature Passionfruit Mojito. We were extremely impressed with the food. The Crying Tiger Grilled Beef Salad was delicious, refreshing and spicy. We also loved the beef short ribs the meat was very tender, fell off the bone and went well with the cashew nut salad.
We were very pleased with our dining experience tonight and we would highly recommend this place for a night out or two! There’s certainly enough on the menu to choose from to accommodate many visits. I’m not sure about Bang Pop but this place is certainly bang-on!

I have my own reservations before going to a Thai place. There's something about it that seems a little ordinary, a little plain but not Bangpop.
Their food is flavourful and delicious. Came here for a work lunch, and although I was lucky enough to have a Pad Thai to myself, I regretted not being able to try more of the other dishes.
The flash fried squid as an entree - as recommended by other reviewers - was absolutely amazing and memorable. Crispy, a little sweet and just a delight in your mouth.
Would also highly recommend the Thai dessert platter to finish so you can try a little bit of everything with mates if you got stuck on picking a particular dessert like I did!
Would also highly suggest going with lots of mates so you can try as much food as possible!
Bangpop's service is so lovely with their genuine smiles and their colourful, comfortable, cushioned chairs remind me of my 'study' chair back in the day which makes me laugh.
I would definitely bring my mates here so I can try more of their dishes!
I took my parents to this Thai food restaurant after shopping at DFO. The staff was friendly and helpful, so we ordered quite smoothly and properly. The lamb curry and Tom Yum Soup were the best companion for rice. Pad Thai should be very decent as well. I would come back the next time I go to DFO.
Was here on weekend lunch but was a bit reluctant to go in initially because the place was pretty full and i needed a quick service and food due to appointment but decided to try anyway because I love the atmosphere and the lively afternoon to be seated outdoor (Yarra river view).
I was pleasantly surprise with their efficient and friendly customer service and how quick the food arrive to the table and it was so yummylicious. I will definitely back for more.
The place is spacious, good for prams and they have kids menu too.
Delicious dinner at this lovely thai delight. Busy and buzzing on a Saturday night but the service was very good and efficient from the start. Restaurant can be very loud. Food was fresh and flavoursome and the crying tiger beef salad had the most tender beef I've had. Pad see ewe chicken had an authentic taste too. We will be back to try other dishes on the menu.

Was looking for a late lunch venue and I found Bangpop on Zomato as one of my option. Glad we made the right choice as the ambience was good, food served pretty quick and most importantly the food was awesome- literally every dish. However, its along South Wharf so do not expect it to be cheap (considering the portion against price). Reasonable for a good date/treat :) Ordered one of the soup that was advertised at $9.90 winter special. Chose TOM KLONG BEEF ($9.90)- comes with generous slices of beef cheek (About 5 thick pieces) and the soup had the real authentic flavour and kick of thai soup. Then we had RED DUCK CURRY ($28.90), WHOLE BARRAMUNDI - the gravy was insanely good ($28.90), a large serving of JASMINE RICE ($6.90) to share, schooner of COOPERS ALE ($8.50) for my partner and a RASPBERRY BOMB ($8) for myself. The food was amazing and my drink was super refreshing. It’s made of Raspberry puree and Ginger ale. Something commendable is that they used bamboo straw in replace of plastic straws. Will be back again!
Really enjoyed my lunch here today. Friendly service and the food came out quick. I got a fairly safe dish - crispy pork belly stir fried with Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce. It was a bit more expensive than my usual Thai haunts but the quality matched - the pork was excellent with the right amount of crunch, and the serving size was good. Good level of heat to it as well, without being too much.
I also got a mocktail, the raspberry bomb, and it was excellent. Refreshing ginger beer raspberry purée mix.
A bit expensive for regular visits, and the servings on their lunch specials were a bit small (I would forego the beer and get more food if that was an option). But I suppose at least they had cheaper options available.
Good option for team lunches, I’d definitely come here again. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
Buzzing modern Thai restaurant in South Wharf. I had the pork belly and prawn salad. It was fresh and vibrant and in terms of authenticity it was on par with the food I had in Thailand last month!

We went to Bangpop for my birthday dinner and weren’t disappointed. In Melbourne, you end up trying way too much Asian and it sometimes gets difficult to really distinguish between quality and taste. Bangpop changed that. I really enjoyed the meal and tasted some new Asian flavours and preparations. The service was polite and friendly. They even gave us beers on the house since the order got delayed. Brownie points for that! The only complaint I have is about the portions. It just missed the value for money mark for me as I thought the portions were little for the price. We had to reorder rice quite a few times and the Large plates on the menu were just average in size. Also, we were seated next to the door on a cold evening which the servers kept opening. Got a tad chilly! But all in all, not a bad evening at all :)
Had a lovely time at Bangpop with my mate Jason. Great service from lovely staff and good drinks! Had Baileys and milk on the rocks and a BangPop Express and they were both delicious. Would recommend going here for a drink or a meal after work or for dinner along Southbank.
My friends first taste of thai food and she loved it! The only downside was we had to wait to be seated and also for them to take our order even though it was very quiet. But the food came out very quickly and was delicious, full of flavour. ��
Great service and food! We were immediately approached when we arrived in the door and were quickly taken to an outside seat. Our orders were taken within minutes with consent staff approaching seeing if they could assist in any way. As per previous reviews, it seems as though they’ve taken feedback on board and it’s worked!

Amazing location with reasonable lunch specials. The menu covered all bases with traditional dishes and many interesting twists. The noodles were really good and to my delight there was such a generous amount of chicken.

Great little joint in the hustle of South Wharf/Docklands. Whilst it was the lunch special sign that lured me over it was the menu that captivated my heart. Just do't trip your wine glass ...
Prominent South Wharf location, converted warehouse, high ceiling, airy, huge Duplo block facade bar area, big semi opened kitchen station, predominantly White paints showcasing vintage bikes, post-modern fitting, huge carved framed mirror, toned-down Pop-art and lots and lots of bicycles ... they are everywhere, oBike you've got competition ... not quite more like a vintage Schwinn garage within a Thai establishment.
Indoor and outdoor dining area, stay outside if you can, best place to dine.
Food wise ... presentation plus, on the traditional stream, however not strong on their authenticity ... It has those Thai "greens" colouring from the Basil, Betel leaves on rustic ceramic plates, contrasted by those red cheery tomatoes, just vibrant colours jumping out from those plates ... easily 5/5 for presentation, some were good but not all are quite authentic ... lacking in that spice,Tamarind, salt & palm sugar sweetness balanced, missing some chili kicks ... they are more focused on being a bar/event place; drinks, parties, etc... and don't try to take any of those Schwinn bike, they are not an oBike parked in the river somewhere. Went here for lunch yesterday with a bunch of workmates and had a fabulous time. The waitress we had was really friendly and super efficient, as were the rest of the staff. I had the barramundi jungle curry which was the spiciest dish I've ever eaten outside Thailand. Although more of a clear soup than a curry, it was delicious and I would order it again. Friends were all impressed by their various dishes too. Worth mentioning was the tap beer which was chilled to perfection and at $7.50 a schooner, was great value. A bit on the expensive side for what we ate but still a great restaurant in a great location. Will bring the family on an evening trip soon.

Though the lunch specials all sound really nice (and come with a pot of beer or a glass of wine for like $20), I have a dinner tonight that I'm looking forward to so I've decided to have a "light" lunch and skip the lunch specials (all of which come with a side of Jasmine rice, which, if served to me, I will undoubtedly eat!). So I've gone with the Prawns and Pork Belly salad and I'm very happy I did. The amount was sufficient and though I'm not overly full, that was my intent.
The salad was crisp and fresh and citrusy and delicious. Very reminiscent of that papaya salad I had on Khao San Road (Bangkok) but without the immediate and uncontrollable, chilly-induced, profuse sweating (a massive kick which I loved! But not what I was after on a work lunch). It had just a tiny kick (matching the spiciness rating indicated on the menu) that was perfect to get those taste buds dancing.
The prawns were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Pork belly was crispy and though a tiny (tiny) bit dry, they were thin slices so I really can't see how you could've achieved that crunchiness whilst maintaining moisture. It was a good compromise I think. The dressing was delicious. Not too fish-saucy, sharp and with that bit of a kick. I think there was even a hint of tangerine in there? In any case, delicious! I could've bathed on the remaining dressing on the plate but I had to go back to the office so instead, I opted for the more civilised spoon-the-whole-thing-as-if-it-were-soup approach (heartburn will be Afternoon-Chris' problem, not mine!).
In terms of service, though friendly, as I typed, read, edited, re-read and re-typed this, my bill still hadn’t arrived. If I had been in a hurry I might’ve been more disappointed. Shame.
The venue is very nice too. Their serving-ware, the decor, etc. Background music was enjoyable (mostly 90s so far). Nice. I sat outside by the water and in spite of the overcast today I enjoyed the view. The place got lots busier halfway through my lunch adding some welcomed buzz to the place. Recommended.
I went to Bangpop with my mates tonight, it was so busy even though it is Monday night. But all the staff were so friendly and nice, you know when some restaurant is busy they don’t look after you,but bangpop staff knew what they were doing and have to say to us . Food was yummy too! We loved their cocktails too, we had to order more haha. Will defo come back again!

Sunday lunch here was great as my partner is hard of hearing and we were able to have a conversation without yelling. Food was delicious. Comparing with what I ate in Thailand, the red duck curry was on a par. Also had Som Tum, sticky rice and pork belly stir fry which had a good amount of spice. Service was fantastic.

For the first time I lunched at Noon today with 3 friends and none of us were disappointed. Dishes chosen were Poached Chicken & Rice, Duck Salad, Poached salad and Pad Pak Tofu - Vegan Stir-fry. My dish (the Poached Chicken & rice), was seriously flavorsome with chicken cooked well & the rice was perfect (I also loved the sweet dark soy sauce). My friends comments: The Duck Salad - very good double-cooked duck accompanied by a medium spicy salad, excellent light lunch. The Poached Chicken Salad totally amazing genuinely fragrant & flavorsome, and finally the Pad Pak Tofu - the vegetables were nice and crisp however flavour was a tad bland needing more spice to add a kick.
Provision of service was very good with all meals served within 15 minutes of ordering. The décor was colourful & bright utilising the natural sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows on the Yarra river side of the eatery. Ambiance was pleasant although we found the music a bit too loud considering the restaurant wasn't that busy.

Bangpop reminds me of what I'd consider as the lesser known, waterfront cousin of Chin Chin. I actually do find the menu at Bangpop more appealing and the atmosphere a hell lot more pleasant. The tall ceilings, warehouse fit out, lego decor, lack of crazy queues, delicious and fresh Thai dishes (both for individuals and groups) make Bangpop a great option for diners in groups of all sizes. The portions here are pretty generous as well. I highly recommend the Thai salads, with my favourite being the banana blossom salad. Packed with chicken pieces, the flavour was bomb without having the creamy coconut empowering the dish. I also really liked the beef cheek curry which was melt in your mouth tender and had great sweet and salty flavours. Another shout out is to the grilled pork neck which was flavourful and not too fatty. Not a huge fan of the duck dishes (both the curry and salad) that were served here as they tasted quite bland. Overall, however, it's always a good meal at Bangpop! I'm not giving it a 5/5 as it is a tad pricey - I mean, $28 for a curry without rice... Another criticism I must make is that a few dishes I tried were a bit too sweet for my palette, especially the deep fried fish with chilli caramel. Others, such as the Thai chicken rice, were quite tasteless too. An extra notch of savouriness would top it all off!
DO: The deep fried chicken, fried barra and masaman curry.
DON'T: Forget the Thai Milk Teas or splendid list of house beverages to choose from.
TIP: When you pay, grab the parking discount card to halve your parking rate that night from $10 to $5. Winning.
Had a very pleasant and romantic dinner here tonight! The pork knuckle and soft shell crab were stand out dishes and by the end we were filled to the brim and pleasantly surprised at the well presented, tasty food.
Great food, and very courteous service. The king prawn salad was spicy, but the fish cakes were surprisingly not. The beef cheeks curry was excellent, and the meat was very tender.
had the pleasure of visiting Bang Pop down in South Warf just a few days ago.
The restaurant was beautifully set up, and it was very bright and colourful inside and they had beautiful tables outside to sit by the water and enjoy a meal too !
The menu was quite extensive and had little diagrams showing the levels of spice in all the dishes which was a nice touch and made the menu much more helpful, however despite this I still managed to order food that was so spicy I couldn't finish it (and I am used to spicy foods!!!))
I had the vegan tofu salad which even though it was incredibly spicy was also incredibly delicious and had been beautifully presented on the plate !! we also tried the rice crackers for entrees which were nice and one of the chicken curries too !!
staff weren't really anything special, nice to us but not overly friendly
ill definitely be back to check out more of the menu and hopefully next time I will actually be able to eat my meal !!!
Came here with friends after the Lume exhibition today. Their service was friendly and efficient; food was tasty and well presented, also reasonably priced. We had a good view of the river and the ambience is relaxing and pleasant.
The appealing menu and lack of other similar restaurants in the proximity made this the default choice on the day. We were quickly given a table and started to consider the offerings.
The curry jack fruit in a bao was fascinating and the texture was surprisingly similar to chicken! The red duck curry was tender and a great blend of spices and flavours. The prawn and pork belly salad was refreshing, crunchy, sweet and spicy all at the same time.
Service was minimal as we ordered and paid via the QR code app and food was delivered to us after a reasonable wait. Beautiful views if seated outside but these were fully booked today. With strong flavours and a bright, airy feel, this remains a popular spot for some Thai favourites in a cool setting.
Lovely place with good atmosphere, excellent service and great food.
The view over the water is lovely and plenty of space inside and outside.
My only issue were the sticky tables.

Great Thai restaurant. Good customer service. It was not necessary to reserve a table. We walked in and they seated us at a table. Orders are made through an app that makes it easier and faster. The food was delicious and delivered quickly to the table, even though the restaurant was almost full.
Came here for lunch after attending the Lume show. Was seated outside which had a nice view of the river. It was really nice and warm with the sunlight shining in.
Menu was via QR code and payment has to be done online too. I requested if I could pay over the counter but was rejected.
Food was nice and we were quite satisfied with the serving, taste and service.
Bottomless brunch is great value. Great food. Delicious cocktails (not sure of the alcohol content, prob a bit on the low side) never had to wait to get refills. Staff were fab, very attentive. Definitely be back.
Delicious authentic flavors. A bit spicy but to my liking. Limited veg options but whatever we ordered, we loved. The food took 30 minutes to arrive after we placed the order but they were very busy on a Saturday night. There are limited individual tables and they usually split large tables into smaller ones by placing table dividers but it can still be too loud if you're sitting next to a large party

All of the dishes were so flavorful, delicious and massive! We usually ordered 2 starters (in this case the satay and wings) thinking they’re going to be small, but honestly I could just have the wings and rice and I’ll be good for the afternoon! 😂
The beef cheeks on the pad see ew were very tender, I didn’t even have to chew on them. It was such a great topping that complemented the noodle texture. The chicken & cashew tasted so fresh and perfect for the summer ☀️ and on top of a hot bowl of rice 🙊
We really loved all the dishes, and would definitely be back to try their other dishes. We couldn’t finish our order so if you’re planning to eat here, one meal per person will definitely be enough, or maybe share a couple of starters and one main.
