😱Lizzie’s first impression: been here many times and their kbbq is like no other place I’ve tried
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: their meats are very fresh and marinated really well. I love how they have seating where you step into the floor and it feels like you have your own little section for you and your friends.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: it’s a little more overpriced than the usual but still worth trying in my opinion - the quality of meats are definitely better than most.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great place for kbbq and is definitely a strong contender in melb cbd
Must ordered their bulgogi (different with other Korean BBQ restaurant), galbi, samyeopsal pork belly. They import charcoal from Korea and Tasmania. The cutleries are hand and machine washed and then dipped in boiling water and let it dry. The most hygienic restaurant ever. Their bimbibab and pancake is soso.
Amazing ambience and greatly invested charcoal grill, has lot of variety of beef and wines, 5 stars! A bit pricy but reasonable. Wish there were more side dishes though.
Came here for a birthday with 7 other friends. First time here and although it's slightly more expensive than other KBBQ places all the dishes were really well marinated, nothing tasted bland and came with heaps of complimentary sides. The pancakes were also delicious and would recommend. We woul've got the sets but unfortunately they had run out of a few things.
Probably my favorite kbbq place right now!
Beef is incredible!!!! but so expensive... but if I have money I definitely want to go back!! haha very nice restaurant. you should go here right away!
Always a good place for large groups, we came with a group of 12. Best to book online. The food is slightly more on the expensive side, but the food is decent. It's missing drinking food like giblets though. One of the first Kbbq spots in Melbourne so check it out!
Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve been here through Zomato gold.
Food: I ordered a pork belly, wagyu bulgogi and kimchi soup 🍜 and we divided in 3 people. Well, the quality was amazing and fresh, this was really a very good thing, but the problem is the soup is basically just stock and I barely saw any pork and the amount of meat wasn’t enough.
The service: not too friendly as I like but good.
Definitely my favourite Korean BBQ joint in Melbourne! The closest I’ve come to finding the authentic taste, similar to the one’s I’ve been to in Korea. 5/5 hands down!
One of the best K-bbq in the CBD. Love the atmosphere of Hwaro, almost have a touch of Japanese style. It was a bit pricy than other kbbq places but it was totally worthy!
Great customer services, super attentive and was there grilling meat for us the whole time!
All wagyu selection is great, we tried ox tongue(thick), sirloin, tender strip and oyster blade. So juicy and tender! Love their peach soju and Asahi beer, great match with all the meat!
Only wish they have more options for vegetables! Great experience overall.
Hwaro is a bit on the pricier side when it comes to Korean barbecue and the venue is a little more upmarket than your usual soju lover joint. However, the seafood here is so juicy and sweet. The portion sizes are smaller than average but the food is great quality. I’d come for the seafood or for a special occasion.
My favourite BBQ Korean restaurant in Melbourne. Authentic Korean food and good setting. Even my Korean friend loves it so that must be a good thing!
Went for dinner with 6 people. Great food and terrific service. Did have to ask them to turn the music down a fractions. Best part was the bill at $44 each including drinks. Will come back
1 shot, 1 kill. First time to a Korean bbq in Melbourne, and we weren’t disappointed. Value for money, very tasty food, restaurant set up and ambience was excellent, willing to try others but this could be a new regular.
Yassss!!! Best Korean BBQ in Melbourne 😩 quality meat, good service, and always crowded, the price is high but totally worth it, however, you might want to book first, because there’s a time limit here, and it feels so terrible when always have to check time so you don’t have to rush eating when not finished, but everything else is perfect
This is my go-to Korean BBQ restaurant. I loved the ambiance and the food is quite good. Reasonably priced and I always had a good time there. Highly recommend to those who loves Korean BBQ to give this place a try.
It must be my favorite Korean BBQ restaurant in Mel. I've been there many times. The only problem is a little bit pricy comes with small serves.
Good food, not excellent, but service was great. Waiter and waitresses made sure our food wasnt burnt on the bbq. Price is a little high. May go back !
One of my favorite places for a good quality Korean bbq . The price point here is quite high but you get good quality meat in return . The staff here cook your meat with alot of care . I love also that they have wagyu beef on offer in the menu
Love the place. Came here on a Friday for dinner.
Pretty good customer service and good quality meats. Very friendly waitress and waiter cane by often and helped.
Ordered mushrooms $6, Ox Tongue $24,60, Wagyu Oysters Blade $38,60, Wagyu Tender Strips $42,60, Marinade Rib Fillet $28,60. The side dishes was yum too!!
This place is ace! Have been visiting sporadically over the years but the standard of service and food has never dropped. They’re very generous with their side dishes and their food is cooked to perfection. Note tables are booked for a set amount of time during busy hours, not that this has ever been an issue.
Came here for dinner last night. The food was delicious. Would definitely recommend you to try the wagyu scotch fillet cut because it was super juicy and tender. I quite enjoyed the seafood pancake as well because it was crispy and authentic. The service here was attentive and quick.
Love coming to this place! My friends and I always order the soybean pork belly and scotch fillet with the soybean paste soup. Love how the pork belly is marinated. Customer service is good as well!
This is my first time here. I have always walk passed the restaurant so many times and it is always full of people. I love the place, the food was great.
Very delicious, the service is top and helpfull. I must admit it that this is the best barbeque ever. Off course i will come again and again.
Hwaro is one of the more expensive Korean BBQs in Melbourne and it is worth the extra cost. Great ambience compared to most other Korean BBQs, great quality meat. Delicious bibimbap. I don't think I've had a better bibimbap than the one at Hwaro. And I've eaten A LOT of bibimbaps! I would highly recommend the marinated galbi, the kimchi pancake (make sure to ask for extra crispy!) and the beef bibimbap! The chicken thighs are also pretty good, considering I don't usually order chicken at a KBBQ. The only bummer for me is that you have to pay extra for kimchi! That's pretty surprising given it's pretty standard in Korean restaurants to get kimchi for free! Service is sometimes a little hectic, so don't wait around for someone to come over and cook the food for you.
My Korean friends took me here the other day and promised me authentic Korean food - and that's exactly what we got. Amazing atmosphere, very attentive service and the quality of the food is outstanding. Highly recommend! My favorites were the Kimchi & Calamari pancake and the marinated rib filet - sooo good!
This place is always out of tables and the queue can sometimes be annoying, but the food quality justifies it all!
A big claim to make but i reckon this is one of the top korean bbq places in melbourne!
Food is yummy... I love everything that we ordered. Service is good as well, typical Korean restau where they help you cook and cut the meat. Ask help if you don’t know how to cook!
Seafood pancake is heavenly my husband love this so much. The bibimbap is also yummy. Side dishes (free in korean restaus) are so-so, kimchi is good the rest are just average.
They have homebrewed ice tea which really taste good. I miss homebrewed ones because everywhere is just powdered.
Absolutely my favourite Korean BBQ place in Melb. I’ve been to all the Korean places down Lil Lonsdale, Victoria St and this one stands #1. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The quality of the meat is also top grade. You pay for what you get as the food here is amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant as a must try if you’re in Melb!
This Korean BBQ joint stands far apart from its competitors not only in Wagyu quality which is absolutely first class grade, but also in service & ambience. A real pleasure to visit and a great place to have a fun feast with friends! Keep the jazz playing!
Delicious food warm atmosphere. Been there a few times, very satisfied every time. The staff were quick to respond and very friendly. Would highly recommend :)
The excellent customer service really stood out for me. One time I was busy talking to my friends that we didn't realize the meat was burned. They apologized, gave us an additional serve for free, and extended our stay (which was supposed to be 1.5 hours).
In terms of the food, I found the meat to be very soft, fresh, and well-marinated. I don't think there's anything more to say. The ambience was great as well, I was catching up with my old friends and we certainly didn't regret choosing the place.
The decor here is nicer than many other Korean bbq restaurants in town. Some tables are traditional style where you need to remove shoes. The food is tasty but it seems not enough staff around. It is also more traditional in the sense that the staff do not help you cook the meat as much.
Went here for dinner last night, food was great! Definitely need to try to wagyu scotch fillet and the pork spare ribs! King prawns are really good also. I wasn't a fan of the pork skin... too chewy! The atmosphere is really nice and the staff are friendly, a bit pricey but a nice place for date night. Remember to book because it gets super busy. Would come back :)
Use to be one my favorite Korean BBQ. It is at the expensive side of Korean place. the sitting is really 😣 uncomfortable. Love the rice wine and soju. The service is getting down... kind of pushing you to finish ASAP. I know they are quite busy. Well probably not gonna return in a short period of time.
Never had a disappointing experience here, all the food is delicious! Love the all you can eat entree's, kim chi really good 👌 atmoshere is great, they have a wall everyone can write a message on which is cool.
Loved this place. We arrived on sunday night without booking and so lucky we got a table for 2 just perfect .Staff are very friendly &welcoming. they will gladly help you if you are a first timer or need any advice regarding ordering. Food is of exceptional quality we ordered bbq wine pork belly, Galbi_ marinated chardgrilled beef ribs, marinated pork short ribs & soy bean soup with beef. The foods come out very quick however they forgot my soup so i have to wait for a while but that fine it was worth the wait. The atmosphere is fantastic and this is a great place to come with a bunch of friends. Can't wait to go back.
Amazing food, service and ambiance! Galbi and bulgogi were delicious as well as the kimchi pancake. Side dishes were fresh and tasty. Kid friendly as well was a plus! Highly recommended!
I didn't take too many “perfect” photos of my food… and no filter… but all food tastes good!! I think it's a great korean bbq, just the amount for each dish is a bit less than I expect… I ordered beef tongue, pork belly, pork skin and mushroom, and soup. Overall, recommend!
Expensive price but simple service and food.
And the quantity of food are just a few. We two people, order three plates meat but still not feels full.
......................................................
Hands down the best Korean BBQ I've ever been to! I always find myself running back to this place. They make the best kimchi pancake and their pork bone soup just hits the spot!
Really good food and service. Reasonably priced. Great ambiance as well. Would definitely recommend it. It also helps to have a booking. Food is very authentic.
We (My husband and I) wanted to try Korean bbq for a special night out in the city. Its been a while since we had KBBQ. From the reviews on Zomato, we zeroed in on Melbourne Hwaro Korean Bbq.
It’s located on Little Bourke street. Getting there isn’t much of a problem. The restaurant in few minutes’ walk from tram stops.
Before I get started on the review, I need to note, reservations are a must. If you go here without a reservation its highly likely you will be turned away and disappointed.
We arrived there in time for our reservation and were showed to our tables. We didn’t want the lower dining tables and asked for another table instead, only because I didn’t want to take my shoes off since it was a cold night. We were given a corner table near the windows, with one of the lights not working. I guess it was punishment for requesting a change of table. The place has a dim ambience and with only one light, it was almost so dark on one side of the table we needed to squint to see our food.
The service is exceptional and must be commended. They were immediately taking our drink orders. We ordered a Mango Soju and a Zucchini pancake. The Soju was mixed to perfection and the pancake was incredible. We ordered three mains after that. A Spicy pork belly, Spicy chicken thigh, and Marinated rib fillet (beef). The hot coals were brought out in 5 minutes of our order. One of the reasons this place stands out from the rest of the competition is their use of charcoal. Also, they cook the meat for you. This is great since I tend to over cook the bbq if it was left to my devices.
The meats were brought out soon after. They were well marinated. The beef went on first, then the chicken and finally the pork belly. The food was amazing! We hardly spoke since we were so busy eating. The meat was juicy, with the right level spice and also had an extra layer of smokiness.
We went through the three mains with ease. The portions are not very big and you have a good appetite on the night, you may need to go for four mains. Not satisfied with what we had, we ordered a Bul Go Gi and polished it off with ease. From the taste, you can tell the meats were prepared with care and dedication!
We were done by 7:25 and then asked politely to leave since we had apparently overstayed our visit. They have a one and a half hour rule per sitting which would have been great if they had told us when we walked in. Considering there are other empty tables around it left us puzzled as to why have such a rule in the first place. Surely there is a reason but it breaks the customer experience at the end especially when we just had a meal for $65 apiece and only finished 5 minutes back.
The place is well ventilated so the smell of the food doesn’t stick to your clothes. The final bill came to $128 which is a bit on the pricey side, but for that BBQ its definitely well worth it.
Nice Korean bbq restaurant with pretty good quality meats. I enjoyed the marbled beef and spicy pork belly. We had a reservation for 6.30pm and we were asked to leave at 8pm which was a bummer because we wanted to order more food. Despite that, we enjoyed the food and service was prompt. Looking forward to revisiting Hwaro again.
In the past every Korean BBQ place has left behind a stink on my clothes and an over exertion on the patrons' part to ensure that they have cooked the meal well enough to avoid poisoning. Hence to my delight, when my colleague told me that this place cooks for you, I couldn't wait to try hwaro out
It's a fancy looking place and best for groups however banquet options require an even number of people which is a Shane as it is the best bang for buck
The place runs out of kimchi quite quickly so make sure you get your fill of sides and seconds quickly.
No tea options available.
Drinks menu includes wine, beer, soft drinks and Soju
We got the kimchi pancake - soft, oily, spicy and we'll flavoured
The wine pork belly - quite dry
Lo-gai - delicious tender beef
Wagyu beef - delicious tender beef
Steamed rice - mix of purple and black rice
The beef is very tender and sweet tasting. Does well on its own
We paid around 40 bucks each so not a cheap eat.
Saw a group celebrating a sweet 16. So definitely good for groups.
The waitress came and cooked for us and then forgot about us which was annoying as our meat began to burn.
They take bookings
Like all typical popular korean bbq restaurants, food was wasn't too bad, atmosphere was good. Only downside would be the size of the place. We had a tiny side table to fit 5 people. Another would be the service prior to eating. On the day itself, they called confirming the booking (which I would understand as it's busy). At the time they called, I couldn't pick up as I was in a meeting at work. When I called them back to confirm it, they said they would've cancelled my booking if I called back later... (seriously?) To make the matter even funnier, it was a Wednesday night and the place didn't look as packed (compared to other places I've been to e.g. Chin Chin)
When I got to the place, had to wait quite a while before the person at the front served us... Which was strange cause person at the front was there scribbling in some book when we got there and kept doing that for a while...
Apart from all those "funny moments", I'd say the night wasn't too bad. The vacuum on top of the bbq cooker worked really well so it didn't smoke up the whole place, had limited variety (but that was made up by the food itself - everything tasted pretty good) and the Gal Bi was simply superb
Great dim light ambience and friendly service. Korean bbq cooked over a charcoal fire and well ventalated. Soft bean rice and well marinated meat. Spicy cold noodles are a good combination with the bbq.
There are so many places to have Korean BBQ in the city nowadays that it makes it makes it hard to find one that stands out, unless you can handle having it daily for weeks. This place didn't disappoint but didn't wow me either. The place itself is quite nice; graffiti on the wall, outdoor seating and dim lighting. What's different about this place compared to other Korean places I've been to is that you cook the meat on charcoal instead of hot plates. Does that matter? YES! The meat came out so delicious and full of flavour. Be sure to order the chilli pork belly and marinated rib fillet. Tip: if they say you can't have anymore Kim chi, ask another waiter and you'll be sweet. Who are they to deny you of Kim chi?
Service was great, our drinks and food came quickly, staff were attentive and friendly. Price is reasonable and cheaper than oriental spoon. Amazingly, the ventilation was awesome and we didn't stink of charcoal/BBQ after eating here.
Highlight: marinated rib fillet
Let down: being denied of more Kim chi.. Even though we got more in the end.
Delicious meats especially the wagyu chuck steak and the bulgogi. The kimchi and calamari pancake is also lovely and a good compliment to the kbbq. The ox tongues were a little small compared to what I was used to, but they were tasty. I enjoyed the side dishes, especially the lettuce to wrap the meat with and the kimchi. The chilli pork belly is also recommended, while flavoursome it is not too spicy. Staff were kind, prompt and helpful. I would highly recommend.
My boyfriend and I love coming here for dinner. Make sure you book ahead before you go as it does get booked out on most days. Our favourite choices are the wagyu chuck steak, chilli pork belly and wagyu bolgogi. Service is great and the staff are really helpful.
The Girl With Blue Hair
+4.5
Nice little gem tucked away on Little Bourke Street. You can smell the aroma of Korean barbecue from miles away. The pork belly and Wagyu scotch filet are must-haves! The kimchi stew was okay but we have had better ones elsewhere. The only let down was the sidedishes. There were only kimchi, radish, spring onion and soy beans. Would have loved some fish cake strips, bean sprouts and potatoes. Service was excellent with the staff assisting with the barbecue.
this is the best korean barbecue. has the best meat here, there is no leaking oil, no hot stuff blowing into your face and such beautiful decor and design that's lovely to look at and take photos of. the food here is amazing, it's a little pricey but it's definitely worth it. the staff here are so friendly and always make sure that everything is going well. i love going here, and especially love it when i'm seated in the area where you take your shoes off and sit in the private area. the rice here is amazing and i would recommend this kbq place to anyone!!
Finally made to Melbourne Hwaro Korean BBQ. We had the Chilli 🐷 Pork Belly and the Rib Fillet. Very fast service, reasonably priced and the meat was flavoursome😋. Great ambience and overall vibe to the place👌. Only small negative detail was the waiter didn't bring table water even after we'd asked😕
Another first for me but won't be my last ..
The BBQ was awesome and good serving of meats with sides ..
Pancake is a must too ...
Even thou they have a exhaust fan right on top of the BBQ you will still come out smelling like one ...
No fuss but don't wear your best clothes 😁
I haven't Korean food much but I remember hwaro gave me a really good experience! The meats and seafood were very fresh and the waitstaff taught us how to cook it! I'm not a fan of Korean food but this restaurant certainly has changed my mind. A little.
Taste very good!! Love juicy meat :) waiters are very nice too~
We had wine pork belly (Better not to overcook), ox tongue (Next time I would try thin cut, thick cut is definitely delicious but kind of hard to chew..), waygu tender strip (Love it!! Juicy if not overcooked!), seafood pancake (Love it too yummy! No words for it kkkk), pork skin (A bit heavy but good to share with frds) ;)) I think for 2 people (Small eaters) 2 bbq+1 entree would be enough. 2 big eaters maybe 3 meats with a entree?
King of Korean BBQ think was the first one to open in Melbourne. Good vibe, good service and great food! More pricier then Tadoouri but well worth it and plus they have Asahi on tap which you need when your having BBQ. Deffs get on this one ! Hit up the oyster blade , scotch fillet , kimchi soup, can't go wrong much with their menu.
The best 🇰🇷 cuisine I've had so far in Melbourne. Great food, juicy soju and cute waiters/waitresses💕 we will definitely come back! Please remember to make a reservation before you go:)
Korean BBQ is always great when you want to filled your stomach with tons of meat! This place was very big and the food was great! Loved the service and the environment of the place, very cosy and toasty.
Probably the best Korean BBQ place in Melbourne CBD - excellent meat, delicious taste, great service.
Here we tried a variety of different meat and cut, which were all delicious. The meat was of high quality, and well-marinated. The highlights include the Wagyu scotch fillet which was super tender and marbling. The beef bulgogi was also a smashing hit - being very soft, tasty, and fragrant. The spicy pork was also delectable - hot and smoky.
The charcoal really lifted up the meat and gave them another layer of taste and fragrance. Service was very helpful and attentive as staff would cook and cut the meat for you.
The side dishes were excellent with a variety of veggies acting as palate cleansers. The kimchi was fresh and well-seasoned. The lettuce was refreshing, cool, crunchy which went nicely with the meat.
The place is usually pack in the evening so better book a table in advance. The price is reasonable taking into account the quality of meat and service.
A solid 4.5/5! #happydiners #lukeandhannah
Wow, what can i say. This place was absolutely wonderful. Came here with 2 friends and we ordered numerous things from the bbq meat menu, i only eat chicken and got the thigh in spicy, it was delicious and wonderfully marinated. Additionally we got the thick cut ox tongue, beef bulgogi and pork belly. The kimchi and side dishes were really nice and fresh, infact everything was. My friend impromptu ordered the cold noodles and it was refreshing and tasty. Loved the ambience as we got the infloor seating and the staff were absolutely amazing and attentive. I am definitely going to come back here in the future. Also try the peach soju!
Seriously good Korean BBQ. Scotch Fillet Wagyu and Spicy Pork Belly are seriously tasty. Great service - friendly, polite and fast. 2nd time here and have really enjoyed myself both times.
The wine pork belly is great, wonderful to be with lettuce and salt. Cold noodle and bibimbap are also tasty. Rib fillet is good, as long as you don't grill it for too long. As to the bul-go-gi, personally I don't like such taste (a little bit sweet) of BBQ, so it's hard to say.
Overall, the taste and service are good. Just that price is also above average, since one serve only contains several pieces of meat. $90 for two, with no beverage ordered.
I must say that staff there are good looking and helpful. BBQ is average and pork feet is hard to eat. I only recommend bibimbap. It is always busy, but i do think there are many korean bbq restaurants better than this.
Went to Hwaro last night for the 2nd time with my family cannot fault anything.. The service the food was excellent. Will be back again. My kids absolutely love this place as well, they get to cook there own meet...
First time being here at hwaro restaurant and I have to say. Service was friendly with a great atmosphere. The meat was pretty well prepared at a reasonable price along with the alcohol. I enjoyed it very much. Will drop by there again soon with my partner. 😃
