Yup, some of the best donuts I've ever had, had it a few times still extremely good, makes all other jam donuts not great
Best Doughnuts....nothing like this in Sydney....and nothing compares to them....(we tried the doughnut shop opposite flinders St)). these are so yummy.....
Best donuts ever. Don't care about price change ($5.50 for 5 instead of $6 for 6) as it's the first increase in over 15 years. I remember my parents buying them for us 20-25 years ago and they were just as amazing. I have now introduced my kids to them and they love them.
Yum yum excellent doughnuts 💖💕 only at Queen Victoria Market
Moved to Perth 16 years ago and miss these still the same as when I was a little guy well done you never disappoint
Love them. A must whenever I get back to Melbourne
Best doughnuts I have ever had - and I've sampled a fair few! Cannot wait until Friday morning when I get my next fix :)
Awesomeness as always, I took my son for the first time he loved them.
AMAZING .......... at any time of the day!
Just delicious !!!
Awesome!!!!!!
I salivate at the thought of biting into one of these! Krispy Creme comes second on my list yum yum
These are just the best doughnuts to have. Great on a cold winters day.
Mental goodness!!! Never leave Melb without them!
These donuts are so good. They’re hot and filled with jam. The dough the perfect texture. And I always crave these
How can you go wrong ... $6.50 for 5 freshly fried, jammed doughnuts?
Best to eat them warm in Winter, that's just my preference.
Just make sure you where the jam hole and bite it there, or you'll get that liquid strawberry jam all over your pants or jacket ... and got a partner to eat them together.
After our grocery shopping at QVM, we saw the queue for the American doughnuts were quite short and as we were feeling a little peckish, we decided to get some of these delights to eat. Yum yum yum!! They tastes soooo soo good, light and fluffy! So different from traditional donuts. Its been soo long since I had these American doughnuts because whenever I do visit QVM, the queue is ridiculously long and of course for good reason! They’re soo worth the wait. Again this place is an institution within QVM at its own right.
🔆LOCATION🔆
Look out for the white food truck with big blue print “American Doughut Kitchen”. It is permanently situated outside Shed H and I, on Queen Street, at
the corner of Therry Street.
🔆SERVICE🔆
It would be good if they had a better printed out menu adhered to their truck on the types of doughnuts available especially helpful for those that don’t know or are tourists.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
There seems to have been a price increase of 50 cents. Last year it was 5 for $6.00.
Now the price is 5 doughnuts for $6.50. It’s a minor increase.
Types include:
- Cinnamon doughnuts
- Hot Jam cinnamon doughnuts (traditional)
🔆VERDICT🔆
We got 6 of the cinnamon doughnuts! Soo fresh, fluffy and light! Delicious! Love it!
I was very lucky when I went to get some jam donuts as I didn't have to cue for ages which was a bonus.
The service was excellent, friendly and welcoming. The jam donuts were yummy, the donut wasn't too heavy and the jam was tasty.
This place is good and definitely worth a visit if the cues aren't too long.
Decided to grab a doughnut from here for a quick snack. I really like how fluffy and light these doughnuts are, and they’re served hot with the jam still runny. Just a heads up - the sign says “5 for $6.50” which might be a little misleading as a discount because each doughnut is actually just $1.30.
Longest line but the line moved impressive quick. Don’t be discouraged. 100% worth the wait. Service is quick once you approach the van. Where u are handed a bag of warm crispy soft doughy goodness. Savoury dough with a wonderful jam that doesn’t make it sickly. Will 100% return.
Love love love hot jam doughnuts and these folks do it good. Usually a long line but it does move quick. Staff could be a bit more friendly. Would absolutely recommend.
Had them at the QVM, absolutely delicious! $8 for 5. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, the jam is not too sweet with a hint of sour, contrasts perfectly with the sugar coating.
Only speaking for when consumed hot of course.
PS. if you have the app “skip” use it and skip the que
No word can explain how good this donut is!!! Fresh from the oven donut~ when u eat it the jam will always still pipping hot❤️ texture wise really soft! $1.2 for one! 1 defy not enough!!
The best jam donuts ever.... located near fresh fruit market ‘Queen Victoria Market’ in caravan. Always a long queue... much worth the wait. a must try when in Melbourne. Famous since 1950.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: I can always smell the freshly fried donuts from a mile away!!
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: my absolute favourite type of donuts - they are so soft and fluffy and has the right amount of jam inside. I love how fresh they are and warm too.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: Watch out the Jam can hurt your tongue - so I would say that's my fault.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: After the Footscray jam donuts, this would be my second favourite place to buy jam donuts. perfect for a winters day!
If you have not tried the donuts made by the American Doughnut Kitchen, you're really missing out. It is a perfect treat after a long shop at the Queen Victoria Market. The line goes so far back because it is very popular, so it is key to get in early.
woaaah they have a very long queue so i expect big and wanted to try! for the price its $6 for 5 donuts! their donuts are mini and filled with jam inside and sugar outside. the service is quick and great, i will give the donut 4/5 bcs it doesnt really taste like what i expected more from it , just taste ok and good , but the jam inside is nice tho! its really good for breakfast
i was quite excited to try these as i love jam doughnuts and had heard good things about this van. i got there quite early and so there wasn’t much of a lineup. got 5 for $6. they were still really hot when i got them (as they’re freshly made) and so i had to wait a few minutes to eat them. the smell was amazing. when i finally tried them, i thought the jam was kind of a let down. i didn’t enjoy it that much and there didn’t seem to be much in each doughnut. overall, it was an okay doughnut. i’d get them again if i was at the markets, but i wouldn’t rush back.
Absolute must try!! Didn’t even make me feel guilty after scoffing 2 of them in one go!
Get them early and straight from the oven then grab coffee nearby.
These are a must try for anyone who intends to visit the Victoria Market. The prices have certainly increased since late time I was here.... 5 doughnuts for $6
My partner swore by these - unfortunately im on an 8 week challenge so didnt get to enjoy these but he said they were light, hot and the queues speak for themselves. He didn't realise they were jam donuts until he bit into the goodness

Beware the queues but worth it. Hot sugary calorie filled delights with warm jam oozing from the middle. Perfect. Located in the central part of the Queen Vic Market this place is THE spot for donuts. Being a cloth to wipe your sticky fingers.
Wheelchair and kid friendly.
Jam Doughnuts : 😍 Amazing
The line for doughnuts was super long but I think it was well worth it. The jam doughnuts and were beautiful! The skin was sugary and crispy on the outside, the inside was fluffy and the texture was perfect just the way doughnuts should be. And the jam was well warmed up that it brought the wholeness of the doughnut together. Need I say more?
Yum. It’s nothing fancy but sometimes the simplest things are the best. What’s not to love about a good old jam donut covered in way too much sugar? A great snack for when you’re roaming the markets. ✨
Best tasting doughnut in Melbourne that is filled with simplicity! The dougnut is super soft with delicious butter fragrant. It is filled with strawberry jam and coated with sugar. They always have a very long line, but it is always worth the wait.
Mind-blowingly amazing donuts - traditional, unpretentious and reasonable in price. The dough is fluffy, stretchy and moist, far better than any others in Melbourne. Queues are long especially on weekends, but don't let that deter you - the line runs pretty quick. Definitely worth a try, and be prepared for a sugar rush!
If you don't get a bag of these babies when you're at QV shopping for produce, you're not living life ;) Save those extra change for some goodies! Always fresh, always the best!!
A quick fix for your market snack! Genuine American doughnut, can opt with or without the strawberry jam. Long queue but moves pretty quickly. A must try in Queen Victoria market.
As a market All-Star, American Doughnut Kitchen has one of the quickest moving 'long lines' I've ever seen. Clearly having done this for years, the guys churn out gooey jam-filled goodness to the masses in record time. My advice is to not let the line deter you, as you won't be waiting long before you get your own paper bag of goodness. Yes it's a sweet indulgence but mark it off your bucket list with a sugar-dusted smile as it'll be worth it. Simple, classic and just good.
These doughnuts were worth the wait. Have walked pass the long line many times and finally, they were so nice on a cold breezy day. Plus they were huge!
Best doughnuts ever! Authentic jam donuts at vic market, at a incredibly cheap price you can never go wrong. I've been eating these donuts since i was kid and the taste never really changed, the queues are really long now especially during the weekends but it moves quite quick! The donuts are crispy on the outside but piping hot and soft on the inside, you can either can not filled or filled but their jam is really good, the tart strawberry cuts through the sugary treat!!
My favourite donut place, EVER. The donuts are always freshly cooked, so it comes out warm and crispy every time. The donut itself is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, not too sweet even though it is covered with sugar. The jam is a bit sour, not too sweet, compliments the donut well. I always get a few bags whenever I have the chance to.
This place is a 'must do' every time we visit the market. Yes, the queues can be intimidating but somehow, it usually moves at almost a lightning pace. It's always fun to watch the guys expertly roll the morsels of goodness in sugar before tossing them into the paper bag.
The doughnut dough tastes unique (quite yeasty) and the dollop of jam balances everything out.
God bless American Doughnut Kitchen!
so sweet sweet and I think I will get fat. so sweet sweet and I think I will get fat so sweet sweet and I think I will get fat so sweet sweet and I think I will get fat
You just cannot go wrong picking up a bag of these! No trip to Vic market is complete without joining the cue of all the other people who can’t go past them!!! Cheap, makes you cheerful and delicious!!!
Every time I go to Vic Market and see the stall I can’t help but buy a bag of these piping hot raspberry jam donuts. They are made to order and are so delicious. Fluffy, sweet and coated in sugar, breakfast for champions!

We have this almost every time we visit the Queen Victoria Market! There is usually a long queue but we never had to wait a long time tho as they get the donuts out very quickly. They are always warm and soft.
We like the jam inside too very delicious!
We would recommend having it with the famous coffee from the market lane just in the market.
This place always has long queue but good thing is that it is very fast moving.. we came quite early on Sunday morning & there wasn’t a long queue.. make sure you eat these bad boys while they are hot.. these donuts are both warm & soft.. $6 will get you 5 doughnuts.. Could do with a bit more jam however, given the great tasting dough it wasn’t much of an issue.. goes down very well with a coffee.. No wonder there is always a queue..
The doughnut only filled with strawberry/raspberry jam but i dont know why the taste could be so delicious. You can easily find the doughnut truck at Queen Vic Market, but beware the queue could be very long!
Really delicious and nostalgic to-go donuts that are deep-fried, sugar-dusted and filled with jam! Had to queue for maybe about five to seven minutes at Queen Victoria Market for their donuts. It was only $5 for 6 donuts and I ended up taking some home. It is a perfect match for your morning coffee. I was just from Market Lane around the area and it made a really good combo. Definitely, a must try if you're a tourist like me! Street food doughnut could hardly go wrong
Tried this! And i love the taste of the jam, balanced out the taste of the dough itself, not too sweet but still give the flavour to the doughnut.
This is still a top 3 donut (in the entire world) for me, along with soy donuts in Japan and the vanilla glazed donut from Shortstop. The soft doughiness of the pastry and that perfect sweet tang of the jam is amazing, just when you think its too much jam, somehow it just balances out and the next thing you know you've already gobbled it all. They only do one thing but boy do they so it right!
went in the morning so they were suuuper fresh, made to order. the size was bigger than i expected but definitely could use more jam. still deliciously hot and decadent, for a price of $6 for 5 donuts! couldn’t finish them by myself due to the sheer size and sweetness.
These were, in my opinion, life-changing donuts and I wonder what took me so long to find out they existed in Melbourne!
These deep-fried, sugar-dusted, jam-filled little bundles of joy are just wanted you would want on a super cold and windy day paired with some strong coffee.
Not too sweet, and SUPER soft donuts; the sugar (pretty enough to look at since they look like crystals) , provides crunch and texture.
Plus when they are selling these $5 for 6 donuts, how can you go wrong?!
Highly recommended classic and definitely a cultural fixture of Melbourne!
PS: we took them to go since it was super cold and enjoyed at home w/ some delish Market Lane Coffee !
Super addictive!! The dough is slightly chewy and the crunchy sugar coating gives a nice contrast! The jam gives a nice sweet kick and makes a perfect snack! 5 for $6, I can probably finish the whole pack myself!!
Will come back for:
+ Jam Donuts
One of my guilty pleasures at the Vic Market is grabbing a hot bag of jam donuts and munching on these sugary, fluffy delights whilst exploring the markets. The lines seem to be getting longer every time I come here, but it’s there for a good reason. Eat these whilst it’s hot, just not the same to take these home ...
Specialization holds true for them. Only serving one type of food: doughnut. one flavor: strawberry. Yet people are snaking to get one or a dozen bags. Just so good. Even when it’s not warm anymore, it still retains its consistency. Quite surprising as doughnuts don’t typically stay soft after getting cold. Go early to skip the queue
Love the sweet, chewy doughnuts filled with slightly sour jam. They managed to keep their product at a stable high quality. Each time I get myself a bag of doughnuts, it becomes the highlight of my day.
Absolutely loved the donuts here. Tasty, hot and just loves the jam oozing out! Will defi go back for this again and again and I’m not even a donut person :)
very good donuts. soft fluffy crispy hot doughy loved it. will definitely return when in tge area.
service was 10/10 and they happily met all my special requirements.
The iconic doughnut van that you'd see at the QVM and often they'd operate at the night markets also. The doughnuts are made fresh on premise, given a generous bath into some sugar and piped with hot jam.
The doughnuts themselves are golden and bouncy, shapes are inconsistent but doesn't change the way they taste. They don't go to crazy on the sweet jam.
It's advertised at 5 for $6 but you can just get however many you want at $1.20, a must get if you're passing through.
Verdict: I struggle to think of any other food icons in Melbourne, nay Australia which have persisted for as long as the hot jam donuts from ADK. Through multiple generations, they’ve been rolling, cutting and frying these sugary nuggets of gold since 1950. Having not had them for years, I couldn’t help but wonder whether they would be what I remembered – light and airy pastry, the crunch of the sugar granules, and the just sweet enough explosion of jam filling – thankfully it didn’t disappoint.
Hot doughnuts alert.
Ambience: located at Queen Victoria market, its a small van with no seats. There are usually lines, especially on weekends.
Service: The staffs are pretty friendly, and doughnuts are just served as soon as you pay. Quick and no fuss.
Food: The doughnuts are so good! Its made fresh so its still hot. Theres only one variant which is covered with sugar with strawberry jam inside. The balance between dough and sweetness is just perfect! Though there is a tiny bit oil smell to it.
Price: $6 for 5 medium sized fresh made donuts i'd say its pretty good.
YUM: donuts!
NAH: none
photos: forgot to take photos of the donuts 😅
xx、 joelle
Fantastic fried doughnuts filled with strawberry jam. Donut was fluffy, filling was runny, sweet and sour. Perfect snack after a day of shopping at the market.
probably one of the best doughnuts i've ever had in Melbourne! the jam isn't too sweet (which is very much up to my liking) and the dough is perfectly fluffy ❤️ always make sure that i have at least a bag of them whenever i'm around the market!
The line says it all! Hot, fresh and tasty- some of the best doughnuts in melbourne and well worth the wait- just make sure you buy a few because it's often quite the wait
Purely Sinful, Fresh, Soft, full of Sugar and Jam (American-styled) donuts only for those who believe in guilt-free indulgence.
Impossible to miss as there's always a big line outside this food truck @ Victoria Market.
Love their jam donuts! Crispy and sugary on the outside, a bit doughey/gooey on the inside. Could do with way more jam though! These are very similar to Walker's donuts.
Best jam donuts in Melbourne. These donuts are super tasty and fresh. When I think of Vic Market or walk by the market, I think of these bad boys. Amazing and great bang for buck. These are very addictive. It will keep you coming back.
I love truck food like the American doughnut at the Queen Victoria Market! There is always a long queue to get these freshly made jam doughnuts but they are so delicious!! You can't stop at one doughnut so better get a bag of these to share or save it for later..
This place has been here for agesss. The donuts almost always are perfectly fried, with just the right ratio of donut to strawberry jam. The jam itself is so delicious - not overly sweet with just a hint of sourness. You could also ask them to lessen or omit the sugar coating entirely which is something I do to make myself less guilty for eating them (haha). And at their prices, it really is worth it.
Points for: freshness, flavour, value
This place does one thing, but does it well. The dough itself has a richer flavour than anything else I've tried, and even the colour is more yellow, maybe from the egg yolks or butter.
The doughnuts are roughly shaped and you can see them rising on the boards, meaning they are ready to be fried fresh to order.
What's also good is you can ask for double jam free. The jam is my favourite too...not real jam (there's a time and place for that), but this is the artificial distinct doughut jam.
Finally, it's also really good value, around $1.10 ea. Can't go wrong!
A must whenever I visit Queen Victoria Market. Yummy sphere shaped hot jam donuts with sugar. There is always a line but goes by pretty quick. Price wise you get 5 for $5.50.
The best donuts in melbourne now. On par with olympic donuts footscray (now closed down) 😭 Who ever knew a donuts with jam inside could taste so good mouth watering 😋. Very cheap 5 for abt $6. Im craving some right now just thinking abt it.
American style jam filled donuts which I bought 5 for $6 from a food truck. The queue is always there but moves at lightning speed. The dough is very light and lightly savoury with an orange hue coated with fine sugar and the jam is perfection. Overall it was such a perfect treat for a cold wintry day.
An absolute must try for everyone, regardless of whether or not you’re a doughnut lover. Warm, delicious doughnuts that are great for a snack as you’re wondering half way through the lovely markets on a cold, wintry Melbourne day.
Recommended to come here from a friend and am I glad I'm his friend! Insanely good soft fresh jam donuts that just melt in your mouth. If you're going to QVM it is an absolute must! For 5 of these babies for $6 you'll leave very happy and the perfect treat with a coffee!
I waited in line for a while do get one of these popular donuts. I was not disappointed they delivered. Fresh and well made they were a perfect dessert to go with my lunch 😋
The doughnut texture was chewy yet soft. It had a good texture. The jam was delicious but a bit too sweet for me. However, you can ask it without the jam and it was still delicious even just with sugar. It is a must if you visit victoria market.
Delicious, fluffy jam filled doughnuts that still have a great chewy texture. The price is very reasonable for the quantity you get. A must try when visiting the Queen Vic Markets!
Love these doughnuts! Have gone through a loyalty card and gotten a free bag of doughnuts already. Also at a great price! We definitely get some everytime we come to vic market! Lines are long, but move quite quickly since they serve quickly.

There is a reason the lines to get hot jam doughnuts here are so darn long. They are delicious. Cooked fresh daily, you get 5 of these bad boys for $5.50. It takes strength to not order 30.
I love a good jam doughnut, and American Doughnut Kitchens’ sugar-encrusted fried balls of gooey goodness are right up there. The super popular doughnut business is run out the back of a van, which was originally built in 1950 when two friends, Arnold Bridges, a confectioner, and Dave Christie, a fitter and turner, decided to join forces and turn their hand to doughnut-making. 125% worth a visit when shopping at Queen Victoria Market, or just in the 3000 postcode in general.
A friend in Melbourne said that this american doughnuts in QVM is a must try, and I must say I'm glad I listened. The waiting time was short although there was a long queue. 5 mini jam filled doughnuts for $5.50 I reckon was quite a steal
Conclusion: It's worth every dollar

My first donuts in Melbourne. These guys have been serving hot jam donuts since 1950 and they dont look like they are going wrong anytime soon.
Affordable tasty donuts in Queen Victoria Market.
Only suggestion is if they can diversify and start selling caramel donuts as well, it would be fantastic!
I normally hate jam doughnuts but these are the best doughnuts I've ever had in my entire life, easily the best in Melbourne and well worth the wait! Be careful if you buy 5 with the intention of saving them for later, they are hard to resist and you will end up eating all 5!

BEST. DOUGHNUT. EVER!
Just arrived at Melbourne and decided to try out this doughnut, you can literally smell it from the distance as you walk pass by Queen Victoria Market.
They have quite a long queue when I went there, but it was pretty fast. 5 for 5,50? Such a great value for delicious, crunchy and soft doughnuts.
They have strawberry jam inside it, and I think that's the only flavor that they have? The doughnut has the perfect amount of sweetness, the texture was so beautifully made, and the honestly, if you visit Melbourne, you should try and take a bite (or more) of these doughnuts!
Rate? 5!
Would I come back? YES! For sure!
Best jam filled doughnut in Melbourne! 5 pieces for $5.5 served hot with strawberry jam inside. What else could you ask for! Don't be surprised if the queue is very long. Join the queue, it'll be quick as the woman inside the van is moving very fast. Definitely worth to try!
Best Jam Doughnuts in Melbourne! American Doughnuts is a little vintage van parked out the front of the Queen Vic Market. There is always a huge line for luscious jammie doughnuts, which are made hot and fresh, as you order! The staff are friendly and service is surprisingly quick, considering they make them fresh as you order and considering there is always line. The doughnuts are so soft and tasty, they nearly melt in your mouth!
TIP: Must try these Jam Doughnuts if you are in Melbourne!
5/5 I am craving these nearly every day. Even though they are nearly always super super busy, the staff stilll will serve you with a smile. Stock up on as many as you can, that's my advice!
Our chocoholic guide informs us about the history of the market and the famous American Donut Van. The recipe of the donuts has never changed and we know why! The beautifully fluffy donut with a burst of jam is made on site in the small van, and is served fresh and hot. Be sure to eat the donut while it's hot to enjoy it at the best point.
If you are in Queen Victoria Market, you have to get some delicious doughnuts! It's fresh, soft and fill with yummy jam!We can't stop to eating it! It's $5.5 for 5. Don't miss it! Sweet yummy jam doughnuts!😻😻😻
I am not really a fan of doughnuts but this was pretty good. Like that they are still warm and made on the spot. The jam oozes out when you bite into the doughnut. Jam is also not too sweet. Good to share the calories with a few friends or companions
Blog at travelplanery.com
I'm not a huge donut fan but these donuts I am absolutely mad for! They are made fresh on site, served pipping hot ! Careful, I have burnt my tongue a couple of times on these. You can even watch them in action make them. It comes jam filled and covered in sugar however you are able to get some without jam (plain) or without the sugar coating.

📝: Relive your childhood memory with every bite. These Hot Jam Donuts are a classic of Queen Victoria Market. The line’s always long, but I was lucky enough to only have waited for 1-2 minutes since I went on a rainy day (dedication 🤣 I’ve been trying to get these donuts 4-5 times already).
❤️: These donuts were heavenly 😍. They were so fluffy and fragrant. And despite being covered with sugar, they weren’t overly sweet. Absolutely loved it! Best have when hot but still amazing when cold 😝.
A must visit for anyone who’s in Melbourne. There was a line but it moved very quickly as the service was efficient. The doughnuts are made in a cute little van parked inside the queen Victoria markets. You can get 5 for $7.50. So fresh and soft and squishy and chewy - the dough was unlike any other jam donut I’ve had. Wish there was more jam in the donuts though.
I got here before 3pm, waited for about 10 mins before I finally got the goods. Another 10 mins later, they announced they were sold out. So take that as a hint to arrive before 3pm before it’s gone!
That said, it was well worth it. In my opinion, these donuts and the borek here at QVM are the two best things to eat (notable mention bratwursts). I don’t think the donuts are over flowing with jam, and I actually like that.
Wouldn't ever stand in a queue for any other doughnut. These guys really know what theyre doing when it comes to these beautifully crispy, soft and sugary dough balls. They are a real treat. You won't stop at buying just 5 doughnuts! It's also made for sharing! Highly recommend!

Super delicious hot, jam-filled donuts. Worth the queue. Does not taste as good when they are cold. If you can't finish, consider not getting a set
A trip to the QVM is incomplete without queueing up to pick up some hot and fresh jam and sugar doughnuts. What's more to say about these beauties other than a must try ! Always visited whenever we make it to the markets
I love these donuts so much. I wish I had got more. These are super soft, yellow brioche-y and filled with raspberry jam💕 I get them without fail every time I'm in Melbourne 🙆🏻♀️
This doughnut truck is definitely worth checking out if you are around Victoria market. Standing in a queue is kinda inevitable however the doughnuts are worth trying. I have had their hot jam doughts. This truck has been around for more than 50 years.
