Fantastic staff, quick service, great price and most importantly fantastic food. Love this place. Serving sizes are big and l order from the light meal options. Sweet chilli fried chicken is one of my favourites and the purple rice, yumm! Highly recommend!
Friendly staff, delicious food, quick service and no waiting as we went on a Sunday afternoon. This place is cost effective, their meal sizes are really big. We couldn't finish it..good for vegetarians as they do have few veggie options like their dumplings are just wow
Fantastic! My husband and I ate here when visiting Melbourne 2 years ago and again today. Both times the food was delicious. Such good value for money. We highly recommend
This place is a hidden little gem... amazing food and cheap beers.
The food is amazing! Always in a hurry during my shift between trains and they even let me called in advanced.

Fast service, amazing food and such good pricing! Yum yum yum!!
Went there yesterday for lunch and was very impressed with service and the food. We will be back.
The food here is fantastic, cheap and well cooked. The fried chicken is my favorite. We come here every week.
I had the a spicy beef noodle which was yum and hot but i soo want to try fried chicken dish next time
Found it by accident , great food, quick service. Good value for money for being in the CBD
Tried the KFC, it is sooo goood... Plus no added MSG!
Fast and efficient service. The original fried chicken was cooked to a good level of tenderness. Many places tend to overcooked their fried chicken. The bibimbap was also yummy. Would come back go try other dishes!
Their food is always tasty and fairly priced so we keep going back. But once we tried their sundupu, we decided to not go back for a while as it tasted really fishy. I get that it was a seafood tofu soup but it was overpowering. My beef bulgogi was superb, their salad too.
Was seriously impressed by both meals. The chicken fried rice was full of flavour and omg the kfc perfect!!!!!
Original fried chicken is my favorite one. I've try soy and sweet and sour one. Trust me, you can't go wrong with the original. It's good with rice and salad also kimchi. Cheers! Don't forget beer or soju.

I had lunch today at spicy Korea . Apparently it is always very busy for lunch time. However , service is good and quick .
I had pork fried dumplings and a spicy kimchi fried rice with pork . Both delicious . They also always serve a mini salad seasoning with a kind of yogurt sauce . Simply amazing .
I’ll be back . 100% recommended .
A good Korean eatery. Price is cheap compared to other Korean places but doesn’t compromise on the quality nor the portion. No added MSG. Gets really busy dunring lunch time. The fried chicken , bulgogi and the bibimbap are really good. Happy hour until 7 pm. Win-Win :)
My score 3.75 stars. J & I had dinner here on Sat 13th Apr before we went to the footy.
We got a table just in time, within 15min it was pretty crowded & had an interesting/nice mix of people (one of the things I like about Melbourne). We were served by a young guy, who was very efficient but also pretty “cold”.
I had: Kimchi & pork bimimbap ($13.50) > The bowl was ultra hot, a nice bit of crunch to the rice at the bottom, egg nicely done, greens a bit wilted in heat. Kimchi was good, but the pork was lost in the big picture of the dish - it got a bit “samey” by the end, but overall was nice.
J had: Spicy calamari bulgogi (light meal - $12.50) > Huge serve, coloured flavoured rice was better than ok, green salad w mayo was nice, kimchi was good. Calamari was a reasonable amount & firm, but not chewy. Sauce was spicy & a bit sweet (maybe too sweet by the end, as it built up). Overall a good dish & great value.
Happy “hour” is between 5-7pm, so I got a very nice Sapporo for only $5 (good deal).
We would return if it fitted in with a footy match (as it’s convenient), but probably wouldn’t return otherwise. The restaurant charged a 2% surcharge for using a CC card BTW...
I reckon this little place serves up one of the best Korean fried chickens in Melbourne. Mouth watering stuff. Spicy crispy chicken - On point every single time.
Had the pork and kimchi stew. They were very generous with their serving of pork and kimchi. By far the most ingredients I’ve seen in a pork and kimchi stew. I personally would like to have had more soup but for the price and the amount of ingredients, I’m not complaining.
Very generous portion and tasted pretty good. I had spring onion&mustard fried chicken.
The waitress was not very friendly but she did what she had to do😅
スタッフのお姉さんはやる気全くないけど、ご飯はコスパよかった。量も多くて男の子も満足できるはず。
If you arrive here during the lunchtime peak hour, you'll notice a queue extending out to the street. That's because this is one of best places to grab a quick hot lunch of decent value in this area.
I love Korean fried chicken and often crave it, and Spicy Korea's proximity to my office makes it one of my regular haunts. Despite how busy this place can get, service is prompt and organised.
I find the food here to be good value, and the fact that there's a takeaway option to be very convenient, given the place is often full at lunchtimes.
Flavour-wise, you can't fault them. I always go for the Original fried chicken, or the Chicken Katsu and I've never been let down. They use good quality meat and I find the meals are well-portioned (not too heavy, but they don't skimp either); meal deals come with meat, rice, salad and kimchi all for around $12. My one minor complaint is that sometimes the rice they serve with these meals can be a bit dry (bottom of the pot maybe?).
Anyway, they only thing stopping me from eating here every day is that fried chicken is not exactly the healthiest option for me!
On a weekend afternoon, went to to this place for lunch as I was craving the spicy fried chicken-Korean style. Hence ordered the spicy crispy fried Korean chicken in a small size which is a decent serving for one person. Its served along with salad on the side.
Another dish we ordered was the sweet chili fried chicken combo which is served with rice, salad and kimchi.
The taste is decent and the food is value for money.
Love Spicy Korea. Food is great. Well priced. Friendly. Best in winter when it's cold and you need bim bim bap to keep you warm. Not for dieters! Lots of office workers are lunch time. Very busy. Hard to get a table.
Spicy Korea yummmi , there chicken Don was so Delicious I ordered more as i was hungry and simple as that it was super spot on with the flavours.
Back oon
Yum yum yum
No words
I always come here before going to the football and I have the sweet n spicy chicken almost all the time. The staff are friendly and service is really good
Loved the KFC - Korean Fried Chicken.
It was sooo tasty. Good portions and very good price.
I think next time I want to try a hot pot, maybe a seafood one.
Best option for lunch.
Mostly crowded but it’s worth.
Very good ambience friendly staff
Pocket friendly good for groups and corporate lunch times
Food was great, ordered the Beef bulgogi and seafood soup! (except the Kimchi, tasted a little weird), staff were very nice although there were only 2 or 3 when it was a little busy. The place was in quiet street right next to Southern Cross Station
Delicious and authentic Korean dish. Rich in flavor., Attractive appearance of the meal as well as Neat decoration. $17 is a bit expensive for a weekday lunch, but worthy comparing to its size. I should have ordered one more rice and brought my girl to share with me. Now I have to walk for a while before going back to office and take a seat.
Definitely 5 stars for KFC and vegetarian dumplings soup. Absolutely delicious. I have tried friend rice which was good, however prefer the soup and chicken.
Drinks are cheap (before 8pm) and service very friendly and attentive. Have I mentioned delicious kimchi? Recommended!
Busy Corporate lunch location. Tried the Beef Bulgogi. Not bad for $12. The place was quite packed when I arrived for a quick lunch. Had to order something quick and surprisingly the food came pretty quick. Food was pretty average though.
Keen to try this place for dinner, to get a good grasp of other items on the menu.
We ordered the Korean Fried Chicken 4 Combo it has the original honey soysauce and spring onion, seafood soup and sizzling beef bulgogi. I really love the spicy chicken the flavor is not that spicy just a little kick on the spicy but it was delicious. The seafood soup you can taste the ocean smell and flavor from all the sea shells and squid. The beef bulgogi it has the same marinade sauce from the chicken. Overall we enjoyed the food. Btw all the staff is really nice and friendly. Most of all I like the way the staff and chefs eating on the dining table with customers after the hard busy hours they had.
Great for a casual lunch in summer, sit out doors as it can get smokey inside.
Generous portions great flavours. For $15 -20 you can eat well and have a drink or 2 also :-)
Is this the best Korean in Melbourne? No, but considering how close it is to southern cross and all the mediocre restaurants there Spicy Korea is a great place to stop and have a quick bite before travelling.
Went there for lunch at 12pm on a weekday, and ordered a babimbap each for my friend and I, as well as a glass of wine each. About $15 each, which is reasonable. Service was friendly and quite prompt. Ambience was casual and relaxed. Meal size was just right and it was easy to find a seat at this time, but I was glad we didn't get there 30 minutes later as the place filled fast!
Great value Korean cuisine just off Southern Cross station. I've actually been here a couple of times before for lunch. Good portions and good tastes. We had the Bimipab and a Pork set with a side of small servings of sweet chilli korean fried chicken. Honestly thought the chicken pieces would be bigger but our mains were just enough to compliment.
If you're looking for a quick cheap dinner after work in the city, i'd recommend this place. total bill was
Love the sweet potato noodles and fried chicken here.
The price is valuable. We don't have to wait for a long time. The taste was pretty good. Such a nice but tiny place to enjoy Korean food with a variety options in their menu.
Quick cheap eats and you get what you pay for. Good for lunch, I wouldn't go for dinner, it's just not that kind of place, but the speedy service at lunch wins points. However for the restaurants name the spice seems to be missing! Even the additional chilli provided, whilst really flavoursome, isn't that hot either. To me, spicy chicken should have some observable spice.
There is a resin this place is always packed! The food is both affordable and delicious. Standout was the fried chicken. We came here at lunch time and really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. We will be back soon for dinner!
yummy hot food and quick serve, service was just average but the price is value. I had kimchi and pork stew and they served it with rice, the food was hot and the taste was pretty good, the pork was stewed nicely blend with the little bit hot and sour flavours of kimchi soup topping with tofu. I would def going back again since it s very near my place.
Nice korean food at a reasonable price. Don't bother with the fried chicken, it's neither spicy or cripsy (at least the couple of times I've had it). The other items on the lunch menu are quite tasty though, and priced well.
One of the best places for Korean food interms of price and taste. Quick service and polite staff who made sure we got seated soon during peak hour. I ended up eating 3 times of what I normally have for dinner. Must for everyone
Went here last night with a group of friends. Despite the large number of crowd food was served simultaneously. I heard this place was part of another restaurant who decided to split up and make their own name. Unfortunately the bulgogi isn't as good, but their kfc was really nice. We ordered the 4 in 1 flavor which is quite big and was only $38. But the rest is quite disappointing, soup was bland and the pancake is quite soggy. Might come back to try their bibimbab tho as its only $13
Come here often for lunch, absolutely consistent every time in terms of taste and service wise.
Good luck getting a seat during lunch hour though.
Food and Service: This tiny little place has loads to offer in terms of taste, texture and flavours. Not heavy on the pocket and that probably makes it one the most packed lunch joints. Service is quick and friendly.
Look and Feel: Nicely done with some neat and innovative seating options.
Do try: Loved their dumpling soup on a chilli evening in Melbourne. Fried chicken and bulgogi are worth a tatste.
Went with a group of friends few days ago, pretty small place which is right next to southern cross station. Loved the service. The food was good, couldn't really decide what to order from the whole lot. Pretty decent for the price, would go there again !
Good value for Money!
This place is another recent eat i decided on trying with Matt saying it was a good and cheap place! I was not surprised, entering at 12:30 on a Monday it was crazy busy and we managed to get the last table! I opted for the classic original fried chicken and Matt went for another.
I love the fact that a lot of the dishes are $11, you pick your main and its delivered with rice, salad and kimchi on a plate, and a ginormous plate! in my opinion way to much food for lunch but i am a small eater. The chicken was good and crispy but i have had better, not that i wouldn't eat it again though. The mayo on the side was good for dipping. The salad gave a nice freshness to the plate and seasoned well, the rice nice but i guess it was there there to fill the plate. Kimchi also quite tasty, super fast serve which is great for lunch.
I would go back but i would try something else next time.
Restaurant Type: Casual Korean
My first time visiting Korean so didn't know what to expect. Staff were more than accommodating for our group of 8. The dumplinga were nothing like what you would get on Lt Bourke St, but still nice. Some of us got the KFC to share....it was great (far better than the Colonel!) Happy Hour was a happy bonus also
Great lunch spot. Warm welcome. Huge choices. Fresh food fast. In summary the taste of Korea in a charming street / hawker style atmosphere. Highly recommended.
This place has a range of options for lunchtime office workers and is very affordable. However, it gets quite busy by 12 and also very noisy. My colleagues and I got here at 12 (on the dot) and put our orders in. I got the spicy bulgogi chicken and the others got dumplings, calamari bulgogi and fried chicken with rice.
The spicy bulgogi dishes comes with your choice of fried meat or seafood in sweet chilli sauce or a light soy sauce (which has bits of chopped chilli), a huge portion of white, black and red rice, kim chi and cabbage with mayo - and all of this for $11.
The spicy bulgogi chicken was quite sweet and the rice was quite bland because the sweetness was quite overpowering. The kimchi, cabbage, and the dumplings were really good.
My colleague really enjoyed his soy bulgogi calamari.
Would definitely go back to try their other dishes.
My friends had the soup dishes which they say were delicious. I've had bulgogi n the spicy crispy chicken, taste is alright, but I thought the portion is way too much. So if you're hungry I guess it's a good option, but if you don't want to get drowsy back in the office after lunch you should probably avoid it, or have it for dinner.
Stumbled upon this place quite accidentally, but I'm glad I did! They offer a good range of Korean food at reasonable prices. Not a bad place for a quick Korean lunch, especially if you're a beer drinker ($5 happy hour deals). The staff were fast and friendly. We ordered the combo four-in-one KFC; I highly recommend the sweet sour chicken! I'll be back to try those $11 specials next time~
Light Meals for $11 were a very generous size, fried chicken is amazing and all round great service. Would definitely recommend to anyone in Melbourne.
Great "KFC"! LOVE. Wash it down with a beer! Good balance of salad + chicken and rice throughout a varierty or their dishes.... with that tastey dressing! Yum. Good portion sizes too. Been here several times.
“The lasers fill our minds with empty plans, I never knew I was a kimchi fan”
Spicy Korea is slowly turning into one of The Dear Luncher’s favourite lunch venues. A strong reason for this is the presence of Korean fried chicken options on the menu, but it’s not solely down to that. Food is fresh, plentiful and tasty. The flagship Korean dishes are present on the menu of course, but the $11 so-called “light meals” are a real winner. Choose from quite a few different options and watch as a plate that looks anything but light is placed in front of you.
Good luck getting a table on a Friday though, you must get there early.
I go here quite often as I reside close-by. The food is good for it's price - it's fairly cheap. The happy hour beer is a nice addition. The ambience in the place is quite nice and the service is good. They have a good take-out service which is really quick if you order for pickup.

Delicious variety of fried chicken is great value for money, and always great service. Each serving is filling, and despite not being a big vegetable eater I thoroughly enjoyed the salad's taste. The sauces accompanying each meal compliment the dishes brilliantly.
This place is amazing! So quick and cheap you can go for lunch or dinner. Been coming here for almost a year and I've never had a disappointing meal. The Cajun chicken salad and the sweet and sour prawns are so delicious. Vegetarian dumplings and siblings calamari also highly recommend. This place will take you by surprise, come and try it for yourself.
I always come here as its so close to where I stay. The food is great in general and the price is reasonable. With $11 you get to have few different selections. Top pick would be fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce and the portion is generous as well.
I have grown to love this place. They have great value for money with their meals and is great when you are hungry and if Indians are looking for a good spicy option, I suggest you go for this one.
It's difficult finding a good lunch spot near work when I've only got a 30 minute lunch break... Fortunately I found Spicy Korea! I ended up ordering the Sweet Potato Noodles with Beef. This meal was a lot more flavoursome than what I expected it would be. Some reviewers found the food to be too bland but I didn't have this issue with my Sweet Potato Noodles. I was quite impressed with how much sauce was in the container as well!
I was quite happy with my meal. Ended up taking ten minutes to get my meal which wasn't too bad. I would definitely order lunch from here again.
The foods are so nice:) Tofu and beef are the best menu ever~~:)) My favourite Korean restaurant!! I go there with my friends once in a week!
We always order sweet and sour chicken for lunch to share. It's ver delicious and recommend! Price is ver reasonable as well, we almost come here for lunch at least twice a week
Ordered off the light meal menu . Filling enough for me , great value for money and is taste . Will be back to try other dishes maybe for lunch .
Have walked past many times before but tonight we decided to venture in as we were getting a bit tired of the choices in the area. As it was extremely hot today I ordered the cold noodle soup, hubby had the pork katsu rice bowl and we also had a small serving of fried chicken to share. The guy took our order quickly and the food also came pretty fast. First we got a complimentary salad each - lettuce dressed in mayonnaise. The katsu don, cold noodles and fried chicken came immediately after. We thought that the fried chicken was great value at $10 - there were around ten small boneless pieces of chicken, and it was quite well-fried (not greasy at all and crispy). My cold noodles were nothing out of the ordinary, there was no meat in it at all but the fried chicken gave me enough protein. If I were only having the cold noodles on its own though I would've liked at least a few pieces of meat. Having said that, it's not a bad choice when you want to have a light meal. The katsu don was surprisingly really good because there were heaps of vegetables on top and the black rice is also a healthy alternative. We would certainly be back to sample more of the dishes.
My new favorite dinner spot. Great value for money and super tasty food. Love the staff very friendly and always fast service. Would recommend the small meals they are a great size (even for my boyfriend).
My go - to place when I'm in the city for school. Staff are so friendly. The sweet chilli fried chicken with salad and rice is one of my faves. Great value for money
Between the two lunch meals and a fried chicken, only $15! Great price for great flavour! The fried chicken is a thin light batter which melts in your mouth, best part is, it's boneless!
We arrived at By Korea quite late. The staff were friendly and even though the restaurant was due to close within half an hour of being seated, they were still happy to accommodate us. There was also a group of people that arrived just before 10pm and were still seated and served without any complaints from the staff. If you’re in the area for a quick and affordable korean meal, By Korea in Southern Cross is a good place to go.
Check out the review of By Korea in the blog post below.
If you're looking for cheap Korean BBQ that is tasty and decent size in servings, give this place a go 100%.
Giving a 4.5 as the place is understaffed though and can be an issue when they're busy, however the staff are very friendly and helpful.
This place however is like a quick Korean BBQ style place... There isn't an atmosphere like you get with some of the Korean BBQ places that have the grills on your table and etc :)
Great place for lunch, although gets very crowded - makes it hard to squeeze your way to a seat. Staff can be too busy to notice you need attention, but nice enough when you get them.
The spicy bulgogi is delicious and good value! I've been here a few times now and everyone I've invited has enjoyed it. They also have $5 bottles of beer like Asahi etc...
Been here few times for lunch, always crowded, between 12 pm to 1.30 pm hard to get seat without waiting, very good value lunch, tried their original fried chicken meal, katsu seafood ramen (I requested to have the katsu chicken put seperately to avoid soggy), katsu curry chicken, generous portion with $10 meal, have salad and kimchi as sides, love it.
Seafood tofu soup 3/5, not enough spicy.
One of the better lunch places in the CBD. I go here regularly as a CBD worker and this hits all the marks: tasty food, generous portions, fairly well priced (~$16 mains) and quite fast. The light meals they call it as enough for lunch and recommend the spicy crispy chicken and the beef bulgogi. The only thing is this place can get really packed during weekday lunches so watch out.
Their soy garlic chicken was amazing, and their crispness on their chicken was perfect.
I personally found their bibimbap a little too watery for me. I think they put really juicy vegetables in — which if you like a watery (but flavourful) bibimbap, then you’ll like theirs.
Their japchae was sweet and addictive ☺️ if I visit Melbourne again and feel like Korean, I’d feel safe about coming again.
Nice surprise near station for delicious lunch before we left for the airport
Great value under $20
Bulgogi beef was nice. I think their spicy squid and seafood soup the taste could be stronger and more spicy. I prefer white rice too. They have black and brown rice 🍚
Been here a number of times and the quality keeps on improving. Love their homemade authenticness and definitely great value for money. 10/10 Highly recommended Korean Fried Chicken
Good and affordable lunch meal ($12 -15 ish). They are accommodating with my request for extra spicy chicken.
The place is not thay big and get extremely busy (long queue that spilled to the street). We arrived around 11.45am and had a pick on seats and just over 12 noon the queue is forming.
They also serves alcohol. Also quite busy on Friday evenings
Absolutely delicious Korean fried chicken! The decor is extremely chilled and relaxed. Staff are polite and friendly. We ordered the spicy fried chicken and Soy fried chicken, both come with kimchi, rice and salad - just enough for one full meal. Will be coming here again next time we're in Melbourne to satisfy our fried chicken cravings!
