Review Cafe Excello - Melbourne

Noel Peng
Poor service and poor food. As a traveller visiting thousands of places, I highly NOT recommend people to visit here. Why? They use child labor (maybe their children) to take the order from customers, and at least 30 minutes later telling me the food I ordered was out of stock. ??? The first sentence the owner replied to me was “becoz he didn’t know”. But the owner was next to the child while I was placing orders. Not receiving any apologies from the store, just try to defence themselves at all time. And the alternative (bagel) was even cold inside. POOR SERVICE. POOR FOOD. POOR ATTITUDE TO CUSTOMERS.

Really poor poached eggs, and average breakfast all round. Very unwelcoming staff & vibe; there's probably hundreds of better cafes in Melbourne. Avoid

65 Degrees was a very enjoyable place to go have big breakfast. Despite it’s awkward outdoor seating set up it was good value for money and Service was quick. Food was very delicious and filling. We wanted to eat inside but the restaurant was uncomfortably warm.
Jake Stollery
A cosy venue with a great selection of coffee - multiple beans to choose from. Additionally the food selection is wonderful! Some brilliant meals to try - you can't go wrong with brunch choices here. The exception being the ricotta hotcakes, whilst the fruit was a fresh touch, they just lacked substance for the $15 piece tag. Still, a great place to eat in the local area! ❤

This cafe was actually rather further out of the way than I was used to, but it was certainly worth the walk. Okay, it has been a while since I have been here, but then again it does take a while for me to get around to all my reviews. Well, I've written it now, and I do have to mention that this place makes a pretty decent coffee. It was certainly worth the time it took to walk here from where I was working.

Best big breakfast in Melbourne by far! Most delicious eggs I've ever had
Mark Dixon
Great food and coffee, that's all I was looking for and they supplied it with great service as well

Was a little worried when we went for brunch on a Friday and found the cafe very quiet, but the food was awesome. Fresh ingredients and everything cooked well. Very good value, left feeling satisfied, but not overdone. Service was prompt and the staff were friendly. Highly recommend.

Wonderfully friendly staff. Could not be nicer to customers and why they have regulars. Early opening so guaranteed to be open when you want. It just needs a bit of a millennium update to its decor and menu.

Nothing pretentious here! I enjoyed the ambience of what I consider an old school cafe located on a busy corner in the city. My big breakfast was generous and inexpensive, the coffees were enjoyable, and there were multiple copies of today’s paper available.

This cafe is no fuss and no pretension. Simple food at a good price. I regularly have weekend breakfast here and sometimes a mid-morning coffee through the week. The staff are pleasant but not in your face. The barista always remembers my order and brings my coffee over without my having to order. The food is plentiful without being too much, although I don't order the breakfast with the lot. Coffee is good and they have the papers to read.

It's table service and pay at the till.

Update: 28th June: Went over and ordered a Coffee and Bacon&Egg Sandwich. The lady on the counter called out the order to the kitchen and turned around and advised it would be $12. A small takeaway coffee was $3.50 as per the menu, however $8.50 for a Bacon&Egg Sandwich is a bit too much. If they had the price mentioned on a menu it would have been really helpful rather than being told once you are about to pay for it. The Sandwich was not bad but the cost was fairly unjustified.

Went over with a couple of work colleagues during our Office Fire drill. Chose one of the seats towards the front of the place. The decor is really dated and needs a major uplift. The service was slow as well. We just ordered Coffee’s and no one complained about them. I personally found my Cappuccino to be nice and smooth and might go again if doing a takeaway.

Located on the corner of spring and little Collins this cafe has considerable space indoors and outdoors for dining. I chose to sit outside and I ordered and paid at the counter and later discovered the do table service.

There is a sizeable breakfast menu, from omelettes to sausage and egg. I was still full from last nights dinner so opted for bagel with jam and strong lactose free latte.

The coffee was great, strong with no bitter after taste. Staff seemed are little bit disinterested but at least I enjoyed my coffee
KD

Horrible vibes, horrible people, horribly run. Coffee shot was out of proportion (which isn't good enough for its location). Kept my change and was blatantly ignored when asking for it back, lucky it was only 10 cents or I would have made a scene, this cafe/experience literally ruined my morning

This place should have at least a 4 star rating. A very old style Melbourne cafe. The coffee was amazing, my eggs Benedict spot on. No frills just quality!

Staff with attitude - food with similar sounding names. 1 ordered, received & was puzzled. When asked was clarified. It only took adding one ingredient which I would have been happy to pay. No - I received a lecture & then she preceded to talk to her friend about me in front of me

There is no respect here, I was left alone at the empty front desk while the waitress is polishing the fork and knife. It wasn’t until she finished all her polishing job did I got served. This is the worst experience I had in Melbourne.

Best coffee I've had since being in melbourne hands down. The sour cherry slice was to die for.
Usual cabinet food. The barista was a little grumpy but the waitress was super friendly so made up for his lack of service.
I purchased a take away coffee but would definitely have food next time I'm in town.
Update
Returned the following day for breakfast. No fuss good hearty breakfast at great prices. I can see why this cafe is full. My partner even complimented the staff and agreed was the best mocha he had ever had.

First time trying this venue. Passed this a while ago and it just looked traditional in a beautiful way to me, so i give it a try. Came about 7:40, not busy, the lady who seem hangover just give me a smile not even say hi or anything as i stand in front of the cashier to order, she not even notice that i wanna order something, she just passed me by. Howveer the bartender noticed even hes busy making coffee, he still serves me. A lot of breads, breakfast menu is simple. Maybe with the price i paid, i shouldnt expect something great.
Howard Yung
Coffee was average. Customer services needs improvement. Long wait time and unmotivated workers. Owners not too keen on providing a quality service and product.

You know, I’ve never been convinced by this cafe. It has a prime position on the corner of Spring St and Little Collins St but it just looks and feels like an average run of the mill place that needs to modernise. Today’s visit backs up that view. The coffee was just ok. The service was just ok. The cafe fit out is bland and uninteresting so it’s just ok too. But, just ok doesn’t cut it anymore. There are much better cafes a few steps away going west on Little Collins.

I have one word to sum up the whole experience... MEH... To be fair I did only order poached eggs on toast however I have ordered poached eggs many times at other establishments in the past and they have been dressed up a bit into a presentable plate. Even at home my poached eggs look a bit nicer than this plate I was delivered. They did however taste like poached eggs so that’s a win I guess. I also recommend buying a little something from the counter for the homeless lady and her dog that sits out the front.

The staff are really lovely. Go here every morning to get my coffee from the la mazzocco machine. Was disappointed for them to see the low rating.
Definitely some little things they might consider to fix this. They are pretty old school so I'm not sure they would have even heard of Zomato. Sorry if I offend.
Barista would surely master the art of coffee art with the amount of practice he gets.

This cafe is in a great location. Every time we come here, we enjoy our visit. Food is very reasonably priced. Good sized meals. Coffee is good, too.
Wow. Can't remember the last time I received such a chilly reception when asking for a coffee! Seemed to have inconvenienced the lady who took my order. When I said I was paying on EFTPOS she immediately shoved her hand in my direction as if to say "give it here" however I was paying on my Apple Watch not a physical card. So the lady shoved the EFTPOS machine towards me, face down so I couldn't see the price.
Sorry for being a paying customer who just simply wanted a coffee, without the extra shot of attitude!
(The guy who actually made my coffee was really nice. Coffee itself was ok)

I always order the pancakes, they are delicious and so filling. Once I had ordered the Schnitz with fries- they were so dry and really wasted it, coz I couldn't digest it.
The service is pretty horrible, as I have been here a couple of times and the waitresses always has a shitty attitude towards most of the customers. It feels like we are bothering them. I found a better cafe and started going there, don't really feel welcomed here anymore. I don't want to disturb them ^_^
Blueberrypie
Came in for a quick lunch catchup today. Had the chicken pie with chips. Food was pretty good. Good old hearty cafe style food, nothing fancy. Service was friendly, nice warm environment and good pricing for the area.

Went looking for all day breakfast and found this place. It was cute, cosy and busy for a Sunday morning. Food was great but service was lacking. Hard to get the attention of staff. Paid $20 for a large(ish) meal and great coffee for a cold day.
Would visit again but hoping staff will be friendlier next time around.

I have been here 3, 4 times because they have good coffee and especially good orange juice.
Today, I passed by and got the orange juice to take away.
The staff who served me is around 30,40 years old with blonde hair. Her attitude is unacceptable.
At first, she didn't greet me, gave a cool reception, I thought it was fine, I said nicely to her that I would like to have a take away orange juice.
The way she responded and got the orange juice to me was quite rude which made me think I was bothering her.
When I gave her money and she gave me changes back, she turned her back toward me.
I will be back there again because the coffee shop is near my house but only if She is not the one who will serve me.
Bad attitude and service that she gave me today.
Diana Johnston
Had breakfast here. The food was great Price even better half that of any of the places nearby for the same dish. The Fresh orange juice was delicious!
Michelle Andrea Leang
The food is pretty alright and the price is cheap. However, the service is absolutely not up to standard. Slow and disorganised is how I would describe the staff.

After getting bored with all the amazing food varieties in Melbourne, today I just felt like a good "old school" lunch. I order the chicken schnitzel with a side salad and wasn't disappointed. The food was great, nicely cooked chicken with thin and crispy crumb coating. The salad was fresh and delicious. I'll definitely be back.
Lauren Billings
Dull, boring and cheap food. Dull and bored would also describe the staff. They seemed as if we were bothering them when ordering food and they didn't seem to have been bought up with manners or proper etiquette. Staff reaching over me whilst paying and not saying a word when bringing over food.
Coffee was well below average and the cup of tea servings were tiny. The food on the menu for breakfast is far from exciting; unless 99c white Coles bread and baked beans from a can is your style.
Jason.cromn
Coffee is alright here but what I like most about this place is the location I love spring street and it is right at it. Staff here can get groggy sometime.

Family business - staff are very friendly and attentive to customers. Offering standard cafeteria style breakfast, the price is right. Cafe is clean. Barista needs retraining to offer offer a crisp look and taste to coffee comparable with Melbourne- standard coffee.

Good location and atmosphere and sometime coffee too but the worst staff the woman who works there dont like when some customer try to interept her conversation with other staff who is equally lazy when i was trying to order she got really upset and didnt like it at all that i was trying to keep her job by buying something technically speaking .
Dave
Had lunch there with 3 others. Here's the run down:
* One ordered a chicken schnitzel toasted sandwich. The chicken was tough and dry.
* One ordered a turkey toasted sandwich. It came out too hot to hold (not a problem as such) so asked for a knife and fork. The waitress said "I cut for you" and took it away! By the time it was brought back, cut into quarters, it was cold.
* One ordered a gourmet pie and salad. The pie was soggy and appeared to have been microwaved. No cutlery was brought with the meal and had to ask for it.
* One ordered a steak sandwich. It didn't arrive until the 3 others had finished eating. The steak was tough and overcooked.

The coffee was passable but not spectacular.

Favourite breakfast place in Melbourne. Great tasting dishes with generous servings. Recommend their eggs benedict and latte which are both fabulous and my personal favourites!

Stumbled apon this place while looking for a big breakfast, the menu has a good variety and at such great value. The food is amazing! We have now been back three times within two days.

They do a lovely hot latte. Pleasant staff.

Love the location of this joint. Perfect spot to sit with a coffee and read whilst watching the city go by.

Can't speak for the food, as I didn't try any, but they have a nice little selection of cakes and sweets on display. Must try next time.

I've come here for breakfast twice now and am still astounded by the quality of food and service from this establishment. It's fast, delicious and the coffee is absolutely beautiful. Will probably be coming here for breakfast for the rest of my stay in Melbourne :)

English muffins, pleasingly toasted with a lovely crunch. Eggs: Overcooked. So quite terrible. They were pretty scrawnly little eggs too. Sauce: Pretty sure it was that pre-made stuff, which Lil sis adores and I think is passable. Ham: Generous quantity, tasty. Price: $14 Coffee: A little on the bitter side, but not undrinkable. Service: Very friendly, though I wasn't sure if I had to pay at the register or if they brought the bill to you, it wasn't clear. I get diner's anxiety when I don't know how shit is supposed to go down. Overall comment: Average.

In Melbourne for the tennis with the kids and grandparents and visited Cafe Excello twice. Staff were really friendly and took time to chat and look after us. Great coffee and excellent breakfasts and all really good value especially the big breakfast!
Bill
Terrible salad rolls - they make them without asking what you would like, no spreads, mayo etc, no cheese, no meat. Extremely dry and had to be thrown away. Won't return.

Bad Review. Got some coffee and a DIY sandwich. The lady making the sandwich was very rude and arrogant. I would not recommend this place. Although it looks nice and warm from outside. It is an awful place to eat.
Cas
Would not recommend. Food cold, poor service & then went to pay & told no eftpos (no signs anywhere to advise of this) no apology from staff, in fact very rude
Christopher Darren Power
Light and fluffy french toast. Warm environment.
Arika Roo Waulu
Waiters with terrible attitude + eggs rock hard + cold bacon = massive fail and never going back

Go anywhere else. Went for breakfast due to being convenient to parliament.
Eggs benedict - tiny eggs and pale. Flooded in awful hollandaise. No cracked pepper. Had to eat gum to get the taste out!
Orange juice bland. Tea watery.
Croissants ok however pressed when heated.
Also no eftpos or card availability.
Reminds me of somewhere a retirement village would eat.
Oliolioli
Reluctant service by unhappy waiters. Yes the omelette was large but it was so tough and dry that it made the toast seem moist. Never again.

Terrible, terrible, terrible.... This place reminds me of a cheap American diner. My husband and I came to visit Melbourne on the Australia Day long weekend and tried to go to Proud Marys in Collingwood but it was closed. So we went here because it was down the road from our hotel and it was atrocious. Coffee was bitter and too hot, my husband had the eggs benedict- drenched in (not good) hollandaise sauce and same for my salmon royale, the english muffins soaked and soggy. The wilted spinach on the side looked like it was from a can...we also got a banana muffin, to our disgust it was made with (what tasted like) milkshake flavouring. We're from Perth and even there we've never had such bad food.
PointZeroOne
Terrible coffee. Tried a short black from these guys the other day, it came out terrible, it was gritty and burnt. Worse coffee I've had for a long time.
Lauren
I love the food here! Its always tasty and served quickly.
Fresh squeezed OJ that's never bland or bitter and the absolute best cafe style hot chocolate going around too.
Sonia Rowe
The service is excellent, we had breakfast and I would recommend the Atlantic breakfast and fruit salad and the coffee is fantastic!! A+++
