Had a riper time here. Big thanks to the staff who were very accomplished and professional with their service. I would recommend the tenderloin steak cooked medium to medium rare, pure perfection
Excellent meat. Melts in your mouth. I had the Sher F1 wagyu porterhouse with a marbling score of 9+. I was in steak heaven.
The food and service is exceptional. I look forward to the meal I have here every 6 months when I am on business. It's impossible for me to visit Melbourne and not eat here. The only things that would make it perfect for me would be the addition of my favourite beer - Peroni Doppio Malto and my favourite sipping rum - Ron Zacapa Centenario 23. I can only hope...
Honestly the best meal I have had all year! Great service, great food, great venue. Highly recommended!
The food was beautiful and the wine pairing was on point. Would happily visit again!
Simply one of the best piece of meat I have ever eaten.
I decided to book at STEER for my birthday because I have the entertainment book and the tray of streaks looked amazing in the photo. I've never heard of this place before. I booked the 6pm sitting. What a dining experience for me and my guests. I love a good steak and my steak was cooked to perfection. My guests thought the same. Everything we ordered was perfect. A little pricey but can't complaint when you get food that is so good. The only disappointment was that restaurants now have 2 sittings which I personally dont like. If you choose the 6pm you need to rush and get out by 8pm. If you choose the 8pm sitting you can stay till late but I dont like having dinner at 9 o'clock. Unfortunately we had to rush our meal and get out of there by 8.15 the latest. No time to try the dessert menu. But overall the main meal was excellent!
Amazing night with fantastic dishes in the degustation menh. Special mention to the zucchini flowers and the eye fillet (the best piece of meat I've had in a very very long time) with that scrumptious pepper sauce. Highly recommended!
Can’t fault the service, can’t fault the quality of the steak or the chips or the mash or the drinks. Absolutely impeccable and a hidden gem. Definitely recommend, particularly for couples as the atmosphere is intimate and lighting dull
We had a pleasant dining experience at Steer for Valentine’s Day. The service was exceptional and the staff were very attentive to our needs. I really appreciated their presentation of the different quality of cuts. It was very informative considering it was my first premium steak experience. The steaks were exceptionally moist, tender and seasoned. We both got the 300g F1 Wagyu Scotch Fillet with mushroom sauce. We had complementary starters - the butter spread and tuna crackers. We really enjoyed them both. The onion rings were pretty standard and the mash was super soft. Be cautious of the mustard selection as some had a bit of a kick to it. Surprisingly the steaks alone had filled us up. We will definitely be going back to Steer!
We were here to celebrate a special occasion and it definitely had the ambience for it. The staff were nice- not as attentive as they could have been, but decent service overall. We ordered the tasting menu and enjoyed it. Will be looking to come back and try the steaks that have been highly recommended by other people who have dined here before
Steer has been one of our fave restaurants to have a nice and romantic night out! The meat they serve is always great quality, and the service is good as well! So if you are looking to take someone out for a good steak, this is a top choice!
We also really enjoyed the cheese board that they served!

Steer Dining Room. Having visited before for my birthday, I definitely wanted to take Mr D for his birthday because he’s a massive steak fan. I made sure to make a reservation in advance because it does get super busy. Walking in, you’re greeted by friendly staff surrounded by a great ambiance. We were seated in the corner and BAM the staff will bring around the steak board where they show you the different types of steaks with various levels of marbling that you can choose for the night.
We went for a date night on Friday. The service was extremely good. I was surprised that they bring real steak cut to explain to us the menu. We ordered a salmon aburi as entree. We both liked it. We ordered a porterhouse full blood and a scotch filler dry aged. Both are super amazing! We also had a fried broccoli as side. All these filled us up. Really liked the place!
We ate at Steer Dining Room to celebrate 6 months together and we were hyped up for it from the moment we booked until the moment the steaks entered our mouths!
Now rewind to the beginning of the night. Immediately we were greeted by a friendly hostess who kindly showed us to our table. The ambience is very intimate and romantic, facilitated by the dim lighting. We ordered our drinks before another waiter came along with a board covered in different cuts of meat. He proceeded to explain each cut, their origins and marble score, while giving recommendations. We found this super helpful when it came to finally ordering our mains.
We decided to order à la carte, as we were mainly keen for their wagyu steak which we'd heard was arguable the best in Melbourne.
We ordered:
4 x Oysters (pickled nashi pear, black pepper) for our entrée
1 x Sher 1 Wagyu Scotch Fillet 8
1 x Cohuna F1 Wagyu Scotch Fillet 9 (not on the physical menu but shown to us on the meat board)
Pepper Sauce and Mushroom Sauce
1 x Hand Cut Steak Chips to share
1 x Taro Parfait, Maple Comb, Sweet Potato Ice Cream
1 x Condensed Milk Custard, Matcha Granita, Black Sugar Ice Cream
The sourdough starter itself was great, and we enjoyed our oysters with some cocktails which were deliciously made. We also ordered some wine to enjoy with our steaks.
The oysters were very palatable, even to my boyfriend who was having oysters for the first time. The steaks were cooked exactly how we asked (medium well) and were so tender that they melted in our mouths. I enjoyed and savoured every bite, but dreaded that every bite meant the experience was coming to an end. The wagyu was complemented well by the sauces and the hand cut chips tasted perfectly home-y.
Onto the desserts, the condensed milk custard was perfect and paired well with the matcha granita and ice cream. It made for a good palate cleanser after our main dishes. As for the taro parfait- it was rock solid and impossible to get into. Paired with the maple comb, it was a difficult dessert to chew through.
As our night was coming to an end, we asked our lovely waiter to take photo for us, and he kindly obliged while asking us what the occasion was. He later came back with complimentary meringue cookies on a plate decorated with 'Happy Anniversary'. What great service! And shows how far the Steer Dining Room goes to create a memorable experience for its customers.
In the end, it was a perfect date night, from the food which was heavenly, to the lovely cocktails and wine, and to the wonderful the service. Steer Dining Room is definitely on my visit-again list.
On that day the weather in Melbourne wasn’t too friendly. It was windy, cold and raining in the morning. TGIF, so much better despite the crappy weather. Guess what? Our day turned to be so fascinating cause we received the last minute notification that we won on a raffle dinner run by @forksake for a 6-course ‘secondary cuts’ Diamonds dining.
Yay: Smoked tongue, rhubarb, celeriac remoulade; Seared Rost Biff, mustard emulsion, shallot paired; Ox tail, khoralbi, Brisket, broccolini, white pepper caramel sauce; consomme; Dark chocolate slice, choc aero, beef fat caramel ice cream
Nay: too much beef fat on the meat (Tri Tip, cauliflower, brioche crumb paired)

This is based on my experience in June 2019. the new winter menu had a clear asian interpretation - we wished that the duck and lamb remained on the menu, but since they no longer featured, we stuck to two classic porterhouses (Wagyu) 300g which cost $99 each.
The porterhouses were tender and delicious. I thought the Tasmanian wasabi sauce could be a bit salty so try to go easy on the sauce so that the sauce doesn’t overwhelm the good steak. The marbling of 7 meant that the pork wasn’t too fatty. As I ate my steak, I kept thinking “mmm this is good, but it ain’t the delmonico.”
the sides were stellar, especially the roasted Brussels sprouts with crispy pork. We couldn’t get enough of the crunch and slightly charred taste of the Brussels sprouts, alongside the flavourful crispy pork. The steak cut chips was crispy but personally I prefer shoestring and thinner fries.
we ended the meal on a high thanks to the complimentary passion fruit tart. The biscuit base was just perfection. Service was equally amazing in the restaurant - the staff were accommodating and attentive throughout our time there. There was even a small seat for my handbag which was thoughtful and a nice touch.
All in all, the dim restaurant lighting affects how the pictures turned out, but rest assured, the meal was amazing. I do miss the delmonico though - can steer please bring it back to the menu?
Fantastic dining experience.
You couldn’t fault the service and the decor was beautiful. A highlight was the way they delivered the raw steaks to the table to help you decide which cut to get
Onion rings were amazing and the steak was cooked to perfection
If you want steak with a fine dining feel and want to experience something a little more warm and welcoming than Rockpool definitely try this place.
I ordered the wagyu porterhouse dry aged 30 days and it had to be the best porterhouse I’ve ever had and in the top 3 steaks I’ve ever had. The kingfish with the caviar for entree was amazing so was the calamari . My wife ordered a black angus scotch fillet which she enjoyed.
There was a slight mix up with our order which they seamlessly fixed without me even realizing if they understood there was a mix up. They opened and let us sample 5 different $100+ bottle wines until we decided on our preferred choice.
Not to forget the cocktails were well made. I had the Steer signature and my wife had the Real housewives of South Yarra.
One of the best service experiences I’ve had in Melbourne . Extremely warm and friendly.
Ambience is a lot better than the previous venue which was on chapel st.
Amazing food amazing service
Steak was abit tough on the ends but overall I would back there again
I had red wine vigerette oysters and Pickled nashi pear oysters
I liked red wine more the red wine vinegarette comes in a granita which comes on the side
Which has an amazing sour taste to it so if you like sour that’s your best bet
For sides me had Brussel sprouts and onion rings , kifler potatoes with duck fat
WHICH WHERE HEAVEN !’
Bearnaise sauce
Then for the steak COHUNA F1 WAGYU – VIC
Split Rib 7
500g
cooked medium rare
wasn’t the best steak I had only down side that it was a little tough
Lastly dessert
Condensed milk custard with macha granita
I would definitely go back for that alone !!
😋😋😋
The best steak meal I have ever had. Awesome restaurant and staff that exceeds expectations. Thank you.
Thanks to Peter & Janine for introducing us to this awesome experience. 😃👏👏🍷🍷
Steer takes the crown when it comes down to a good steak for me. Steer offers a range of high quality cuts and breeds and is one of the few restaurants in Melbourne offering A5 wagyu from Japan. This super fatty meat can be overwhelming for some so I recommend trying it served tataki and a small portion grilled. There are plenty of other top cuts available to choose from too. Do not go past the mash! So creamy and buttery it’s heavenly! Service is exceptional and the venue itself is intimate. Perfect for date night!
Such a wonderful experience from start to finish. Also, the best steak I’ve ever had!
My partner and I went there for our anniversary and we had the best experience. The waiter that served us was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable, and the selection of meats is second to none.
What a memorable night - we left with a huge smile on our faces, as well as an unmistakable food coma.
Quite possibly the best steak I've ever had (big call, I know). Everything here was spot on, steaks were amazing, greens and onion rings were delicious, heck, even the bread starter was great.
Was it super pricey? Yes.
But was it well worth it? Definitely.
Pros: steak was cooked amazingly to preference. Had the whooping special 800g steak between 2 which was definitely filling. The pickled radish to compliment the steak, I must say goes very well with the steak, something to 'cleanse the palate', very refreshing. The fresh oysters and vinaigrette sobet.. wow!!! It was soo creamy and the sobet was tip top! The complimentary bread and butter was incredible (on the plus side, it's free!). Service was outstanding.
Cons: the mash, onion rings and sauces were mediocre. The kingfish ceviche was a bit too acidic and sour to our liking. The nasi pear dessert had a really acquired taste (some may like it don't get me wrong, maybe my taste is not sophisticated enough).
3.5
We were invited back to Steer last night and it was even more exceptional than last time. I took my own advice and ordered the wagyu tataki again despite not engaging in the degustation. This is a truly flawless dish of the highest quality. Spectacular plating, succulent meat and the most perfectly balanced ginger ponzu sauce to accompany it. What a way to begin.
We decided to try two cuts we haven’t experienced before, the split rib and the delmonico. These were both 500g cuts but somehow we managed to demolish it all! They were also both F1 wagyu but one a Cohuna and the other Sher. When you select the meat off the tray at the beginning the staff can help you understand your different options. Both varieties refer to different family owned farms and both were delicious.
The steaks were extremely seasoned but the sauces balanced the salt out perfectly. We had a delectable bernaise and a red wine jus. Our sides were hand cut steak chips, stir fried greens and mash. I found the greens very peppery but the mash was utterly heavenly. I don’t even want to know how much butter was in there it was simply just the silkiest creamiest delight.
Desserts were effectively flawless. We had the leatherwood honey cheesecake with autumn figs and green apple sorbet. I could have eaten that sorbet by the litre. It paired so beautifully with the cheesecake and it was stunningly presented with the figs delicately wrapped around it.
We also had the chocolate marquise which is of course a very decadent rich dessert but it was perfectly balanced by several citrus elements on the plate including a deliciously zingy passionfruit curd. There were plenty of different textures at play here too which made it a very interesting dessert as you almost experienced a different flavour or texture with every bite. Definitely one for those who want to indulge!
Update
We were invited to Steer last night and in a coincidental twist my Facebook memory told me we had been there four years earlier on the very same day (our first and only visit). Back then the location was slightly up the road, the atmosphere in the new restaurant is far better with a much warmer ambiance (old space was very dark).
I found the service super impressive here, I was even brought a little stool for my designer handbag which I had carelessly tossed onto the floor. I have never seen this before and really appreciated the gesture. We decided to engage in some fabulous cocktails rather than do a wine pairing given we were both driving. The drinks were fantastic and I wholeheartedly wished we had come in one car.
We opted for the five course degustation menu as recommended to try a bit of everything. Amuse bouche to start which included yummy bread and the stand out for me, steak tartare on rice cracker. Our first course was an exceptional wagyu tataki. I would definitely recommend ordering this dish even if you aren’t engaging in the dego.
We also had asparagus followed by octopus and then the main event. Wagyu with pea gnocchi and red wine jus. This was served with onion rings which delighted by husband to no end.
I would have liked to have tried some mash but adored the little gnocchi balls on the plate. It would honestly convince me to order the gnocchi as a main next time despite it being a steak restaurant. The steak was perfect and stunningly presented.
A refreshing little apple and lime palette cleanser next and on to desert. I saw some amazing looking desserts as other tables and wanted them all. We had salt baked pineapple with roasted white chocolate ice cream. Once again beautifully plated and a really clever little dish. Perfectly balanced and great flavours that paired well together as well as something a bit different and a nice light way to end the meal.
Petit fours to finish, the orange flavoured one was so yummy they should seriously consider making it a full sized desert! Overall outstanding service and delicious food. A really special experience
Original review
I thought I was being really thoughtful by booking this for my partners birthday dinner surprise because he loves steak. Sadly he couldn't have been less impressed with me if I had organised a trip to McDonald's on the basis he has been here before and found it pretentious. I was convinced he was being ungrateful and was determined to assess it impartially (which was actually quite difficult to do given how much he was complaining).
I will agree with him on one thing the staff could stand to be a little less aloof but other than that it was quite a delicious experience (despite the fact the lighting was not exactly conducive to amateur food photography).
We shared a couple of entrees to start which were well presented and strongly executed. My favourite was the calamari which was delicately tender and fresh. Steak wise we received perfectly cooked meat full of flavour and an absolutely stunning bernaise accompaniment.
Price wise Steer probably do sit above that of comparable steakhouses but the atmosphere was lovely and it's a great choice for a special occasion. Your cheapest steak option here is $41 sans sauce so if you are on a budget check out the express dining menu which offers 2 courses for $40 with a drink (or 3 for $50)
The only steak restaurant with wagyu worth ordering! Amazing meat quality, very fresh and marbly. Will come back for sure! Excellent service too!

One word for this...WOW. Can safely say this is now the best steak I have tried in all of Melbourne. There is many different cuts to choose from and the meat is the freshest of them all and so damn delicious! Full of flavour. Pricey of course but that is to be expected if your ordering high quality steak. The staff is extremely friendly too and I highly reccomend coming here! 10/10 The best steak experience I have ever had.
Enjoyed their 7 course degustation on a Saturday night. Outstanding food, great service and nice atmosphere to dine in.
Every dish has a great burst of flavours and beautifully presented. The meats, fish and poultry were all very high quality. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and will return.
4.5/5
My go to place for a good steak guarantee with a delicious red to cap off the carnivorous experience. Steer definitely knows how to grill a medium rare or blue steak and I am always appreciative of their skills and consistency. It’s what keeps me coming back and standing by this place for a good steak if you know your meats without fear of a bad recommendation.
We had such a great experience here. I took my wife for our 2nd year anniversary here and we loved the ambiance, atmosphere and the food. The steak was the best wagyu we had.
Definitely the steak place to go.
Tataki - kobe tenderloin - $50 - Amazing
Delmonico beef - $109 - a little fatty but strong beefy flavour while still being soft.
Mash - $10 - bit watery but very good
Chocolate Marquise - $20 - rich chocolate that was perfectly balanced
Fantastic Place. Had the Full Blood sher Wagyu Potterhouse and it was beautifully cooked. So tender. Tataki were amazing too. Would definitely come back again.
Been back a few times, it is a place with great vibes, great food and reasonable pricing. Everything is wonderfully presented. Steaks are cooked to perfection!
I don’t think I have any complaints about this place. It is always the first choice I recommend to friends for a night when you feel like a nice steak and a glass of wine!
The atmosphere is splendid with very friendly staff!
Recommended!
First time and definitely won't be the last!
Stylish venue with great amostphere, staff were attentive and very informative, a big platter with all different types of steak was brought out and explained. Was recommend the King fish for Entre and glad we ordered it as it was AMAZING! Wagyu tenderloin tataki was to die for and neatly presented. Steak was perfectly cooked which just melted in your mouth. Very kind of the Chefs who gave us complimentary birthday desserts. Couldn't have asked for a better dining experience!!
Went for 7 courses - which was too much for us (eggplant + pork belly + fish fills you up very quickly). I think 5 course is more reasonable for us next time lol.
Overall food was good, favourite is the beef tartare from the entre.
But need to work on descaling the fish. I hate fish skin so i got rid of if. But my partner’s fish wasnt descaled properly. We found a few on his fish skin.
We booked for my friends birthday last night and were very impressed.. Amazing food, wonderful staff and a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. Our scotch fillets were incredible, as were the sides.. red cabbage salad, chunky chips and super crunchy onion rings. Definitely try your steak with the bearnaise sauce!
I have been there many times. Their steak rotate depending on supply, so the good cuts aren’t always available. I have had a couple of really good steaks there but unfortunately they were always not available the next time.
I love their complementary bread and desserts. The whipped butter is so creative and different from other places. The little biscuits are so good even better then the real desserts if I can say so.
I can never resist their bloated onion rings but can never finish them. 🤦♀️
One of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Served medium rare with three mustards and fat chips. We dined on the pre-dinner special: $40/2 courses or $50/3 courses. We found 2 plenty with the amazing house baked bread, butter and puffed rice plus complimentary amuse bouche (cucumber) and petit fours afterwards (marshmallows).
Service was faultless. The gentleman waiter who looked after us was beyond amazing. Apologies I didn’t catch his name; he had glasses on. He was very patient with the more difficult members of our party.
Thank you for having us. Highly recommended!!
3 course express menu $50. Loverly food, every dish was delish. $5 extra for sauce but comes with mustard. Had a side of greens, a nice crunch. Staff were like ninjas, loved it, will be back!
Very nice environment. Not much people when we first arrived around 730 but after that the restaurant is full. Steak is not bad and the service is pretty good.
Must to go place for steak!
All the appetizer, dessert especially the steak were legend😍
Not sure which steak did my cousin and i chose however they were sooooo tender and juicy just amazing.
The appetizer was light and nice.
Dessert! Yes~ the souffle just okay! I think the dessert menu change. Since the last time i came was year ago.
Wouldn't consider this casual dining at all with the exceptional service from the front house staff and the stunning food from the chef and his team. Highest compliments.
Greeted with with warm welcomings and friendly chatter. The dining began with a introduction of different cuts of meat and a exercised explanation of what to look for. After ordering the five course meal with the A5 wagyu, nothing disappointed us.
Each dish was presented well, tasted amazing and portioned suitably which complemented the next dish. Wagyu beef was cooked perfectly and pea mash was brilliant. Enjoyed thoroughly the steak tatare apetitiser with the parfait bites and especially the palate cleaner dish worked wonders before the dessert.
Overall impressed and well done to the team last night and the chef and his party. Will be back :)
Came here for a spontaneous dinner as we received a birthday gift card from Steer. The booking was flawless via google & Dimmi. Service is very good too, professional front of house staffs. The steak came quickly. Perfectly cooked. I would recommend anyone that’s looking for quality high end steaks to visit Steer. The creme caramel dessert was comforting and a lighter finish to the meal.

Always one of my favourite places for top quality steak, I recently visited Steer to try their Autumn menu. We start off with bread of course, and that smoked butter and toasted rice is definitely worth slathering on. Next are some oysters done two ways. The freshly shucked oysters are paired with shiso and a refreshing yuzu granita, and the baked oysters have been cooked with a tasty combination of coconut broth, chilli jam and finger lime.
I cannot fault this place. Took my partner for his birthday and we were both blown away at the quality of food served. The staff here are informative, friendly and warm. We were greeted with a platter of steaks to choose from and opted for a 1.2 kilo wagu to share. The juiceness from the steak was simply just amazing. It melts in your mouth. The beef tartare was also a highlight dish. Definitely eager to return for my next special event.
4.5 The honest and simple pleasures of enjoying a steak hardly gets better than this.
Fresh, quality protein, simple seasoning and perfectly seared. We are pretty convinced that Steer is the definition of a perfectly cooked steak.
Apart from the desserts, this was an utterly, utterly flawless meal. The calibre of chefs inside that kitchen was just phenomenal!
We visited on a Sunday evening at 6.00pm. The restaurant was quiet when we first arrived, however was almost a full house by 7.00pm. My date and I were impressed with the decor, attentiveness of staff and their knowledge of the menu. We ordered the scotch fillet and rump cap (Sher Full Blood Wagyu) medium rare. Both were cooked to perfection. The scotch fillet had a more buttery, mouth full taste and the rump was a little leaner. We ordered the green vegetables and hand cut chips as sides and again, were very impressed. The greens were crunchy and the marinade complemented their freshness. If you’re looking for a specialised steak restaurant, check out this restaurant.
Great atmosphere! Absolutely loved and enjoyed the food. Extensive wine and drinks menu, dessert was amazing. Great customer service. Would definitely recommend!
Having heard about Steer Dining from my steak-lover friends, I wasn't keen to try it as a non-beef eater. But I'm happy I did!
For my partner's birthday, we went to Steer Dining for their express dinner which was great value and delicious. I had the barramundi, which was soft and succulent, while his steak was one of the best (according to him). The entree and desserts were similarly of a high standard and the amuse-bouche and petit fours were a lovely touch to this 'fine dining' experience.
The staff were very professional and efficient (possibly because of the time restriction of the Express meal - in and out within 1.5 hours). We were offered mocktails instead of the included alcoholic drink and the dessert had a candle on it and a 'happy birthday' message - which was a great end to a memorable meal.
Will be back again (though the normal prices are a bit too steep, so it'll be another Express meal)!
A great value and high quality. The fixed price meal was excellent , and the fabulous wine list was well received. I had the zucchini flower and and well cooked steaks. Great service and wonderful, elegant meal was had by all. Baramundi was perfect. We will be back.
+: the steak!! (Tried the Sher F1 scotch fillet)
-: the bad combination of steak/red wine jus/onion rings left an overwhelming salty taste (but that's my fault)
One of the best steaks in Melbourne!
Can't beat it for price if you go during weekdays before 6:30 pm.
Grab the express dining menu and be treated to 2 or 3 course of sumptuous food for under $50 with an alcoholic drink.
If that's not value I don't know what is.
One suggestion, go for the scotch fillet and don't get tempted by the wagyu :) but of course to each their own.
Cheers!
Steer is a very nice looking restaurant with beautiful ambience (slightly on the dark side) with fantastic service and nice cocktails that can be catered for your taste. The sides were amazing and the steak was OK but way too overpriced. I don't mind paying for good food but $120 for a steak is not what I'd consider worthwhile.
Nice ambience, good service and great steak. We got a presentation of steaks before ordering, which showed us how the steak would be like. We ordered scallop and oyster as entree, which I believe I would order again on my next visit. Steaks are extremely flavourful, I love them. Their mashed potatoes is the side you can't miss. No body can reject the creaminess. This excellence dinner experience ends with a flavour balanced desert. It meets a balance of sweet and sour, which is a great finish
Wonderful dinner celebrating Father's Day at Steer.
There's a choice of degustation and a la carte. We went with the latter to get more flexibility.
Extensive wine list for bottles but less choices for by the glass. Expensive tastes.
Oysters, scallops and tataki was wonderful.
Choice of beef (Angus and wagyu) were extensive, you will find what you want.
Desserts were very creative in presentation and taste. Definitely suited for ones with sweet tooth.
Ambience is suitable for dates, family dinner or just friends catch up. Nice and cosy place with good spacing for privacy.
End of meal we were all so full we couldn't fit any further food in even though there were complimentary macaroons and chocolate.
Fantastic place for a main steak meal with good entrees, sides and dessert choices!
My favourite place for steaks! This restaurant has a very nice feel and the dishes are presented beautifully. I also recommend the onion rings on the side! 🐷
Went there for Father's Day celebration, service was great & professional, decor is nice too!
Highly recommend: Cohuna F1 wagyu tataki, sher FB wagyu steak...just melted in your mouth!
From the moment we walked in we received amazing service.
The scallop and beef tataki was amazing that we ordered more after having it. The meat just melts in your mouth.
Great main meal portions. Would definitely come back
Steer Dining Room a fine dining steakhouse offering high quality wagyu, pasture, and grain fed beef. Definitely one of the lowkey best steakhouses in Melbourne . The meat is beautifully cooked and sides are no disappointment. It's the perfect location for a date. Be sure to check out other dishes on their menu. Fork yass certified!🍴🍴🍴🍴🍴/5
I ordered the Wagyu Sheer F1 (1kg) and it was incredibly marble and fatty and melted in my mouth. (Be sure to only order this or any large portion if you have 3 or more people. The waiter will say you can finish it because there is a huge bone, but my experience tells me otherwise. )
Onion rings one of the most popular ordered sides is a must. The batter is fluffy, not too oily and not dry. The crowd is not lying!
While, the classic potato mash is very smooth. I would have liked the mash to be a bit more thicker, nonetheless, it was very well seasoned with the butter.
On the house, they serve sour dough and some crisps to start and mini macaroons for dessert. The sour dough is soft and fresh. I absolutely do not like hard sour dough and was surprised how tasty it was. Just a tip put lots of butter on because it'll melt away and you don't want any left over!
The crisps are simple and inspired by Korean flavours I believe. You won't be missing out on much if you don't eat it.
The mini macaroons are very simple. Wash down your mouth before you eat it because the steak flavours in your mouth will be prominent.
Service is professional as fine dine should be.
The dinning atmosphere is great, but because of the opening kitchen, the place does get a bit smoky and smelly.
We optioned for express menu, starter was great, but steak wasn't as good as what we expected. We ordered medium rare, but came really raw and chewy.
I would suggest the steer dinning increase it's express menu to about 70 bucks per person and provide better quality steak.
I don't think that I will return again, full menu is too pricy and express menu, quality is a bit disappointing

Quality steaks at a nice venue, honestly haven't had a good perfect cooked steak in a while but this place hit the mark spot on absolutely loved the food, the staff were really nice and attentive the matching wines we were offered was excellent we will be back
Casual fine dining? We ordered the biggest steak they had I think it was $350 or something. Honestly was a little disappointed at the size even though the meat was really good quality, and perfectly cooked. Everything else we had was nothing but delicious from the entree to dessert. Presentation, service, atmosphere and it overall made it a wonderful night! I'm not a fan of oysters so I didn't like them but we ordered one of every flavour and everyone at my table thought they were just 'okay'.
To me it was a little expensive but my mum disagrees because of the quality, service etc. If you are looking for a restaurant like this in terms of delicious meat but cheaper and without the fine dining feel I strongly recommend Dexter!
Great atmosphere and service. The home made bread and whipped butter, tataki and onion ring tower set the bar high for that night.
Chose the porterhouse full blood, which was fairly chewy for a 9+ marble.
Will be trying a different steak next time.
I had a really good dinning experience in the Steer Dinning Room. The wine recommended to us was amazing and the steak was done perfectly. Will definitely visit again.
Delicious steaks and side dishes and great service. One of the best places for steaks in Melbourne. Great for a romantic night out or for a gathering with friends.
Had my friend's pre-birthday dinner here and received a full package.
We ordered the Beef tataki to start and it was beautiful, melt in your mouth.
And as for steak we've ordered the Grand Feed Wagyu: Porthouse, and F1 Scotch Fillet. The meat were cooked perfection and it just melt in your mouth. The sauce we ordered were Mushroom and Red wine Jus, oh my gosh how thick and rich the sauces were!
As the main we ordered Gnocchi and the texture were amazing.
Dessert were a big plus for us since that's the first thing we decided when we get the menu lol
Service was fast, friendly, and professional.
Overall it's a bit pricy but it worth every penny, and we were so happy and fully enjoyed the vibe.
Me & my partner decided to dine in Steer for our 2 year anniversary. We ordered the Sher F1 tenderloin tataki to share.. it was delicious! Highly recommend it. He ordered the Sher F1 Wagyu Porterhouse 9+ and I got the rump cap with onion rings as sides. We find the steaks a little too salty for our liking and the rump cap was too Lean for me. The service definitely could be better. Overall, we waited 30 minutes for the appetiser to be served, an hour for the steak. In total, we spent nearly 3 hours in Steer.
Amazing customer service. Harold has the best personality - super friendly and welcoming! Made me feel totally comfortable dining in fancy place like this by myself. Would totally come back. The food is out of this world! Each dish blew my mind. I chose my own dishes instead of the degus menu and was not disappointed with any dish. Thank you for the amazing experience!! Exactly what i needed...
✔️ The service was impeccable, most of the waitors were very knowledgeable. Our waitor explained to us all the different cuts of meat (as shown in the photo) which was super cool and helpful. The ambience of the restaurant was nice and relaxing, perfect for a long, romantic date. As for the food... There are no other words to describe my meal (300g eye fillet w/ red wine jus) than ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. I am a HUGE fan of steaks and I have to say this was hands down the most tender, flavourful steak I have ever had. The strong, aromatic red wine complimented the juicy steak so so well. Ugh I want to go back to Melbourne so badly just to have this steak again 🙌
❌ It took a while for our steaks to come out (about 45 minutes) although it was a busy Saturday night so it wasn't too bad. There was a trainee waitor and he was a little unprofessional and obviously very nervous as he kept bumping into our table and wasn't very knowledgeable.
Food 5/5
Presentation 3/5 (not much to present besides a piece of meat)
Service 4/5
Location 4/5
This is an excellent place to dine if you enjoy steaks. A large array of choices when it comes to locally sourced beef. The onion ring stack is something to behold. Appetisers are delicious, especially the steak tartare. Classy ambience and excellent service complete the experience
Verdict: champagne diamond
My husband and I visited on a Tuesday night and had their $40 special, of two courses, and a glass of wine. I've always wanted to try it and thought this was the best option for our first time! We started with some bread and whipped butter. Something simple yet oh so delicious!! The gf bread I had was even moreish! Then hubby had the beef tartare and I had the vegetarian option. He loved the tartare, and my option was the perfect way to start a meal. For mains we both had the porterhouse and oh my word. It is one of the best steaks I have ever had. Cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The only reason for taking .5 off was the feeling of being a little bit judged for choosing the cheaper way to dine. We dine out a lot and wanted to give it a go - we would come back and order from the normal menu based on the quality of the meals but didn't like the initial judgement.
Have been here several times, and am always impressed by the food, service, and atmosphere. They have an excellent Early Bird special which makes fine dining very affordable. The steak is always delicious and perfectly cooked, and this is our favourite for 'date night' because the staff always ensure you have a special dining experience.
Visited last night for a birthday dinner. We had the signature degustation menu of 5 plates.
Every plate was flavourful and very different. The entire table was happy with it and the service was really good. Everything was proportionate, great organisation and management from the team.
Would recommend.
Walking into this place, I was slightly taken back by the fact that I was the only the person in the restaurant who wasn't of asian decent. Having said that, the food was quite nice as was the decor. However it was definitely a bit pricey for what it was worth, the restaurant was pretty "smokey" from the kitchen and the table cloths were also terribly done.
At the end of the day, similar quality can be achieved by visiting the likes of Rare or Squires. Probably won't be back anytime soon. Not because it was bad, there are just better places you can go for better value for money.
Great atmosphere, and very good service at this restaurant. We've had the signature degustation plus matching wines which was very nice, the ribbons island wagu and the brioche berry pudding both massive highlights.. Also has the scotch fillet that was ok, and Antho had the porterhouse 7 that was not that impressive to be honest. Salads were great!
In terms of fine dining I've had better though..
I have been here on 2 occasions (a birthday and anniversary) both times our table decided to have their degustation menu. Sensational. The dishes are all excellently presented and well portioned. Their steak is to die for. Cooked to perfection, seasoned well, and great cuts. If I was able to afford it I'd go there whenever I had a craving for steak. The staff are very friendly and happy to help in your food/drink choices.
Can't believe I haven't review one of the best steakhouse in Melbourne! I can't say enough is my best steakhouse! All their wagyu beefs steaks you have to try! I have tried numerous times and none disappoints! I brought many friends from other countries and they couldn't praise enough! Just a little note, the first few pictures of this zomato restaurant webpage were my photos taken back in 2011. Had the Blackmore oyster blade back then. Had it until 2015 or Sth but I heard no more recently :(. Love this steakhouse so much!
Took my partner here for his birthday, it was a very cosy restaurant with enough lighting to take good photos.
Started off with some bread and their house whipped butter and their warm seafood shot/soup, that was delicious and different.
We both ordered the porterhouse 9, it was our first time trying steak that had a high marble rate.
The steak was lovely, it cuts easily and it melts into your mouth. However, we were so used to our regular steaks that had a marble rate from 3-5, this steak was too much for us, we couldn't tell if it was the fat or the actual meat we were eating, however it was lovely. We'd probably come back to try their other steaks next time. There was quite a lot of salt on the steak as well, which we weren't used to.
The salad was pleasant and the hand cut chips were delightful.
The mashed potato was something different, I'm a mash potato queen and this mash potato presented as runny but it was beautifully made. Very creamy but still has the mashed texture.
Had the guava and watermelon mock tail and that was very pleasant!
Staff were lovely and attentive.
As it was my partners birthday, they gave us a complimentary birthday dessert, thank you for that!
Take your lover, friends or family for a great fine dining steak experience.
Really Steak house just outside the heart of Melbourne City. great atmosphere and the service was first class. The steak was amazing as well as all the other dishes as we had the 5 course signature degustation. This included Oysters, pork belly, Wagyu with the Mustard dipping sauce, the iced tea, White chocolate pudding and Pasta. Would definitely recommend this place.
Great steak! Awesome customer service and ambience of the restaurant was very nice and cosy. Only disappointment were the chips, a bit too fat for my liking .. everything was superb! Prob the best steak I've had in Melbourne. And being in the entertainment book made it an easy decision to come visit again. Thanks Steer!
ideal location. excellent food, great service. thank you for making such a remarkable night for us. they do know how to cook their steak, just the way we love it.
Been here before, this restaurant has been relocated from the main street.
Saw this promotion from Dimmi, 2 courses for $40 or 3 courses for $50, thought would be great timing to revisit again.
This seems smaller setting than the previous, simple and elegant decor.
We got the complimentary sliced baguette with some cream and crispy stuff, sorry forgot what they called the crispy thingy. Very fresh baguette, soft and crispy side, very creamy soft cream.
We went with the 2 course meals + beer/wine option. (Requested to change soft drink because I can't take alcohol) You can either choose the entree + main or main + dessert. We ordered fresh oyster and crispy cauliflower for entree, porterhouse and scotch fillet for main, all mains served with hand cut chips, order pepper and mushroom sauce ($4 for each sauce)
Love the steak, no doubt about it, love the chargrilled on the outside and the steak just cooked perfectly. I can actually eat it without any sauce because was tasty enough. Love the mushroom sauce too, not too salty and have many sliced mushroom. Pepper sauce was a little salty and I would love to have more peppery flavour. Scotch fillet texture was slightly better than porterhouse texture.
Generous portion for the hand cut chips, however I find a little too thick cut, although normally I like thick cut, but this is slightly over. Crunchy skin outside and not oily, very nice to eat.
Good value after all, at first we thought might only have limited options to choose for this kind of promotion, however I think it has good range of options to choose.
Nice environment, attentive and friendly staff. Would definitely go back again for more steak.
One of the best steak places in Melbourne! Juicy & delicious! 😋
Superb service! 👍🏻
Atmosphere & decors: fine dining , I love the window sofa with pillows 😄
Love Steer! Iove it more than Rockpool or any other steak houses in Melbourne. Pasture fed rib eye 900 gram, duck liver parfait and steak tartare are my fav! Service is always great!
We got the 900gram Cape Grim Premium Black Angus which was very tasty. The meat was cooked perfectly to request (medium-rare) and precut into slices. It was tender, juicy, melting with a right amount of fat/marbelling. It was a bit exxy but you can definitely taste your the quality of meat, which was quite on par with the price.
Quiet ambience with good service as well.
Very nice food, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. We tried zucchini flower, different types of steak and saffron panna cotta. It was one of the best zucchini flowers I have had. Steaks were amazing, juicy and tasteful and panna cotta was delicious. And there was a complimentary surprise of season's greetings with ginger bread. The only let down was the price. I definitely recommend this place! :)
Headed over back to experience an amazing 7-course degustation dinner for me and my partner's anniversary last Friday.
The atmosphere was great - surprisingly not too packed for a Friday night and the service was absolutely thoughtful and sincere throughout.
I highly recommend everyone to try out the 7-course meal, where you can taste the creations of each highly-crafted and innovative dishes made by the chef.
The 7-course degustation dinner started off with 3 very fresh and delicious oyster. I am definitely not a fan of oysters (due to the fishy smell/taste that most oysters have) but THIS is an amazing blend of the sauces and the silky smoothness of the oysters.
I especially loved the combination of the scallop and pork belly - it literally melts in your mouth. Another dish to highlight would be the zucchini and ricotta squash - such a surprise when I tasted it!
Overall, I would recommend visiting the restaurant for any special occasions.
Thanks to the team that night for making our anniversary a special one.
P.S: we had a serious food coma once we left the restaurant.
The service here was absolutely wonderful and the waiters were very patient with our queries concerning the menu. We had the scallops and Vietnamese style prawn for entree. The scallops were so tender and melted in my mouth and the prawns were very flavoursome. We ordered the rib eye and again melted in my mouth. We also ordered onion rings and chips for the sides. The onion rings were quite nice but the chips were a tad dry. I have a glass of The Housewives of South Yarra and it was tasty. Overall it was a really nice experience and I really appreciated the complimentary dessert which was cubes pandan cake and mini shortbread with lemon curd on t
Attentive service to start with. Their menu has infused with a lot of Asian element and they have interpreted well. So it was beyond my expectations. I had tataki to start with and they were so good, I had to order again. Could ask the service person before choose the meat and both who served me knew very well of their meat.
And the stir fry greens! Man, they were better than some in Chinatowns. dead serious. I was by myself but nevertheless I still had a lot of attention from them. Would totally take my friends there again.
这家牛扒店,超越传统地融合了亚洲风味,但是又是合理的味道,特别是那一盘火候十足的炒青菜,我下次来一定会再点一盘,吃得我真的好爽
Great service and great food. The staff was very nice and the food was delicious. Our waitress went extra mile to cater our needs and explained everything in detail. I would definitely go back. We dined here for our anniversary night and it was totally worth it. Thanks everyone who made it an unforgettable night for us!
Great place for a fine dining steak experience. Very creative entree dishes to tease your appetite, try to share a few to taste more options. Wide range of steak selections to choose from and some large portions for sharing is surprisingly tasty.
Great experience, staffs were very attentive. Had the degustation meal experience which I may take 1 star out for the steak because we ordered medium rare but the main meat was a bit too rare. Overall it was one of the best experience I ever had.
Firstly I must say the quality of cuts they offer here are beyond amazing. I tried sher full blood wagyu scotch fillet and grain fed black Angus porterhouse. The meats were super juicy tender and fatty. Few bites they were amazing but towards the end they got a bit too fatty
And extra pepper sauce couldn’t help. -pepper sauce was more starchy then I expected too.
But overall a very pleasant experience :)
This is our favourite steak restaurant in Melbourne! The service is phenomenal and the food never disappoints. You can tell the chefs are passionate and experiment regularly with petit fours and hors d'oeuvres, and every time we go there are new cuts and suppliers on the menu to choose from. This is a must-try for any wagyu-lovers. The desserts are works of art and the interesting blends of flavours and ingredients make you want to try them all before they change.
Beautiful evening at Steer for our anniversary. We have been before and it was even better than the first time! We both got the Stone FB Wagyu tenderloin and it was possibly the best steak I’ve ever had! (And we are self proclaimed steak connoisseur haha!) Staff are always wonderful & the ambience is the best. Will think about this meal for a long time!
Fabulous food and service. The most wonderful dining experience of my 2021!
Here are what we ordered;
Snacks: Appellation oyster, Puffed tendon, Chicken liver parfait, Steak tartare
Entree: Fremantle octopus, Snapper crudo,
Mayura kushiyaki
Steak : 2GR FB porterhouse, Sher FB scotch fillet, Mayura oyster blade
Dessert: Peach & honey yoghurt, Cherries parfait bombe
We visited in early Dec 2021, thus some of the menu may no longer be available.
Every dish was faultless and the customer service is impeccable. Been coming here since it first opened approx 12 years ago (I think management has changed since then) and I still rate it as one of the best restaurants in the area.
