Came to celebrate my boys' birthday with the family~ Manager provides the warm welcome and great service with details, if the staffs can also smile and respond to us after we say Thank you!' everytime, that would be perfect! Very good food and comfortable place!

We had lunch here today on a whim, as we were in the area. The service was utterly delightful, with a gorgeous young fella who was so warm and relaxed in his manner, and incredibly accommodating. He gave us the sense that he really wanted us to enjoy not only the food, but being there. We sat out the front because I am in a wheelchair at the moment, so he also gently let me know that in future, it would be no fuss at all for me to get inside with the wheelchair ( which I hopefully won't be in too long!), and that there is a rear courtyard, that would also be accessible. I almost forgot to mention the food after acknowledging the delightful service (!), but the food was just so good. I had a risotto special, which was I suppose a Milanese, with a saffron base and mushrooms which was just luscious, totally. My partner had a pizza which was very good also. We each had a glass of wine, both of which were lovely, and finished with piccolo lattes, which were divine, and we are coffee snobs! Really can't wait to return and a big shout out to this lovely place and it's fantastic food and in particular, the lovely young man who looked after us today. Fabulous.

I decided on a whim to give myself a treat and stop by at ECCO for lunch. I have been wanting to try the The Taglioni Al Granchio. The Shark Bay crab meat pasta - slightly modified to my special dietary request - was delicate and delectable - deserving the buzz and absolutely a must try if you are a seafood fan! Compliment to the Chef and for the kind staff for a luxurious lunch. Til next time.

Came here today for Mother's Day - made my Mum feel really special. The food was beautiful - the pizzas are some of the best pure Italian-style around Melbourne; the pasta dishes melt in your mouth, Arancini balls were heavenly. Warm atmosphere, excellent service - I love how they gave us a choice too where we could sit. Very inclusive. Wish we took photos to show how beautiful the food was but it was really divine. Customer Service + Beautiful Food + Reasonable price + Warm ambience One of Melbourne's hidden beauties.

We as a group of 4 enjoyed a good Italian homestyle meal with good, not over priced Italian wine. Our favourite dishes was the ox cheek and duck ravioli. The staff were very helpful with our choices and service was great. Overall good value for money and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Hands down the best Italian restaurant I've been to in Melbourne. The food itself was alien... Out of this world. Ordered the lamb ragu, absolute treat, the lamb was cooked to perfection l, I've never tasted clouds before but I'm sure this was the closest thing. The crab pasta was nothing short of perfection, it was a textual masterpiece along with a deep Labrinth of flavour. Probably the best pasta I've had, having been to Italy before I'm not sure if the Italians do it better there. Big call I know but if you come here you must try the crab pasta. Finally ordered the truffle sausage pizza, amazingly luxurious taste of truffle and mushroom that you know and love but tops it off with a delicate thin base and fluffy crust. Food aside the service was great, friendly staff and very traditional atmosphere, very authentic! If you're looking forward to going to Italy sometime in 2025... Don't wait get down here instead.

Found this place close to where I parked had some beautiful gnocchi for dinner! True Italian style it was flawless! The waiter was excellent bought me out a Chinotto Citrus flavoured on ice with a twist of orange it was superb and perfect with my meal! I opted to sit outside its warm and it really felt very much like Toorak Rd is alive again! Definitely on my favourites list and the Gourmet Pizzas look really tasty! You would not be disappointed with anything on the menu here! 10/10 and great music playing 😀

Always a wonderful experience going to my favourite Italian restaurant....it has a warm friendly atmosphere with obliging staff and an excellent menu....all the food is like a home cooked meal and the pizzas are the best I have ever had....it is licensed and I highly recommend the house Wine.....there is an amazing courtyard with a Tuscan feel and a function room upstairs for private dining.....situated in the heart of South Yarra with easy parking.....it is by far one of the best restaurants in Melbourne.....highly recommended😋😉

Those that follow me know I rarely give low ratings, that's mainly because I love food and am motivated to do rave reviews of things I love, but if I didn't really enjoy it, I am rarely motivated to write about it at all by the time I get home. Ecco however really annoyed me because for a small restaurant that has just spent a fortune redecorating, and it does look lovely, they have no idea how to make customers feel good enough to come back. It was highly recommended by 2 in our party that had been there before and LOVED IT, so we were ready to enjoy the meal. I'm not sure when bread stopped being free in restaurants, but we were hungry, so ordered the pizza bread, which was just a base with garlic and rosemary for $10 ! For bread that used to be free - but then needed butter to put on top of it to enhance the flavour because it really was a bit dry. Now I don't know what the cost of butter is, or the cut backs that were necessary which make butter so precious, but we had to ask for a double lot with the bread. The butter was taken away before we finished the bread or the food was deiivered, so we asked for it back. Eventually it did come back, but looked like it had been salvaged from the trash, so we asked for fresh butter which was eventually brought, and made good entertainment while we were waiting for the food. The pizzas were good, and that is why I did rate a 2. One of us had Capriciosa which was delicious, not too much or too little of anything. I ordered a truffle and mushroom pizza that also had sausage on it, I like things a little different and this was good, no complaints, except from the others at the table who didn't like it as much, but were happy with the capriciosa. The ravioli was very ordinary and hardly there - 3 pieces of ravioli on a huge plate. My friend had ordered ravioli before the renovation and was served a generous portion, today, at $30 for a spinach and ricotta I think it was, nothing fancy, the portion was tiny and not all that tasty. The other dish we ordered was a salmon carpaccio with a light and fresh citrus dressing. It was good, but not anything I wanted to go home to write about. As we were still hungry, we ordered a gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce and walnuts, but it was also not spectacular. I love gnocchi and gorgonzola sauce is one of my favourites, but this was not especially rich or creamy and had no zest or zing. We also ordered a tiramisu for dessert, as we really were trying to recreate a sense of YES ! the tiramisu was good - finally at last, something we could all agree we liked ! But alas, it was not a great experience. It is the wait staff that make the experience - the food must be good but why bother to renovate if you don't care about making your customers feel good in your restaurant ? We are not huge complainers or whingers and did laugh about the on going butter issue. We commented politely about the size of the meals, but did just order more food to make up for that, including a dessert. This is certainly priced on the higher end of small restaurants, but when the bill came and not even dessert was comped, we certainly did not feel like valued or appreciated customers who have to come back. Italian restaurants should be friendly and warm and welcoming with lots of wonderful food on the plates that you just can't finish. Don't understand these people at all and with so many other wonderful restaurants on Toorak Road, certainly don't need to come back. So one star because the pizza and tiramisu were good and one star because our waitress did listen to all these comments before we left the restaurant, and will hopefully take note. If you are going to price yourself high, make sure you add good service and if you can see your customers are not happy for any reason throw in the dessert for free to at least let them know you appreciated them coming in at the very least. That $14 tiramisu cost you hundreds in return visits and good will.

We recently celebrated my son's birthday here, and not only were they incredibly accommodating, but the food and service was wonderful! They also have delicious vegan options, which is rare for an Italian restaurant (and according the boys, the other menu items were delectable too!) the space and ambience is beautiful and I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for both a casual or formal dinner. Thank you Ecco!
Domenico Antonaglia
Ecco is reminiscent of a warm and welcoming family trattoria with it's rustic paved walls, dim lit ambience and antique style bar. Wine bottles stacked under the staircase coupled with the flickering flame from the white brick wood fire oven peeping through the back kitchen window serve to excite the senses in anticipation of an authentic Italian menu. The restaurant showcases a comfortable variety of delicious and fresh pasta and large crunchy pizze amidst the classic entree and dessert selections, all of generous servings. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and the attentive and friendly staff are to thank. Who would have thought, stepping through that glass wooden door from a Melbourne street front, Ecco transported me into the quaint corner of a real Tuscan style locale. I'll be back on my next trip in town to experience Ecco's alfresco dining between the green filled terracotta pots in the back courtyard. Grazie!!

I’ve been to Ecco a few times and the food and service was amazing every time! Especially the two specials: pumpkin risotto and the pizza with proscuitto and figs were really good and tasteful. I will higly recommend this place.
Eden Di Sipio
A wonderful and true Italian restaurant. A booking for 16 people, we were all individually and as a group well looked after. Everyone’s food arrived at the same time for all meals (still hot!!), and our glasses were never empty. Food was perfect and the service and staff were amazing. I dare say the pizza could be better than my Nonna’s, or even the best in Melbourne!!
Kevin Panozza
Wow. Great food and fun service. So hard to find amazing Italian food. My favorite cuisine and this place is up there with the best. So good.
Brendan Docherty
Great food. Totally awesome and home/family style. Could not fault the food. Unfortunately we had a condescending waiter (older guy with pepper grey hair) who was unforgivably rude to me and my friend (and we were out celebrating her birthday). Kinda put me off going back and ruined our evening
Ubaldo Aglianò
Great food, amazing service, truly Italian atmosphere! Feeling like having dinner in one of those little Italian cuisine in Rome! I love it!

Sono stato in vacanza a Melbourne e cercavo un ristorante italiano dove mangiare bene e spendere poco: "Ecco" è stata la scelta giusta! Un saluto a tutto lo staff! Ps: il torrone al pistacchio è sublime.

Didn’t bother getting photos as presentation was decent however there was no quality of taste. Came with a group of people and I ordered the crab pasta for $30, it had little to no flavour, maybe 2% crab and barely any sauce. I felt bad saying anything as the guys working were impeccable and their service was so friendly and accommodating. Friends ordered the calamari (small rings) nothing special and the gnocchi which was enjoyed. The guys ordered pizzas, only the pork truffle one was to be commented on which apparently was sensational. I was so disappointed with my meal that I’ll never be back, don’t know if it’s due to covid of the quality but I think for the expensive prices all meals should be exceptionally amazing

If it's fantastic quality Italian food that you are seeking, head no further than the amazing Ecco in South Yarra. From it's beautiful but relaxed decor, attentive and knowledgeable service, and outstanding authentic Italian cuisine; Ecco really lives up to expectations. Seated at an elegant table with crisp linen tablecloths and a simple rose decoration, we start with a beautiful rosĂŠ and cocktail from the extensive wine list. Settling in for an intimate dinner, we relax and take in the ambience. The restaurant is full, but the noise levels are still low and small groups and couples enjoy their dinners around us. <br/><br/>The food menu is so appetising, with a fabulous selection of starters, antipasto, pizza and pasta. We choose to start with an amazingly fresh carpaccio that truly is delicious. Light and simple, the beef is so tender and the squeeze of lemon adds that amazing zing. <br/><br/>Our mains arrive quite promptly, and we enjoy a beautifully seasoned crab spaghetti, and a potato and ham pizza. We can view the kitchen from our seats, and a massive wood fired pizza oven is the key to the sensational pizzas at Ecco. The crust is sublime, with the perfect resistance, bite and chew. The topping was salty and crispy, and the cheese was molten and gooey. Truly fabulous in every way. Our pasta was served al dente, with a light and fragrant sauce generously studded with fresh crab. Bellisimo. <br/><br/>Even though we were quite full by this stage, we weren't going to turn down the chance for some Italian dessert. A blueberry and almond tart was just the right side of sweet, with a burst of tart blueberries and crunch of almond making this simple dessert so delicious. Our affogato was fantastic, with the addition of Frangelico to give it a truly rich and boozy edge. Presented beautifully, it doesn't get much better than fresh espresso with ice cream. <br/><br/>Overall, our experience at Ecco really was fabulous. The attention to detail, friendliness of the gorgeous servers, and the exquisite Italian food really makes a trip to this restaurant really worth it.

There food is excellent, really fluffy wood fire pizza crust, authentic as it comes!

5/5 - Weekend lunch may well be a weekly thing here as wow... the food was outstanding in every way. <br/><br/>With no children in tow, it was time to eat, drink and be merry without little humans screaming 🤣<br/><br/>The decor and interior made me feel like I was in Verona again, the service was impeccable and the entire meal from start to finish was incredible. <br/><br/>I had a cheat day as I only eat carbs one day a week now, so I went all out with the Tartufata Pizza. I love the pungent mushroomy truffle taste and this pizza was outstanding. <br/><br/>With a side salad and a few wines, yum. My battery died when I got there so no photos, but when food is that good and you have some time to chat and discuss random topics, it was a blessing the phone died as you don’t need it here. You just need the incredible food. <br/><br/>Tip - sit at the front, it’s charming, you can watch the world go by and have a spot of sunshine.

Lovely classic on the busy strip of South Yarra!<br/><br/>Walk into a classic and yet classy Italian restaurant which serves up woodfire pizza. There was quite alot to choose from on the menu and we decided to order a few items to share.<br/><br/>Went with the Polpo Piccante Grigliato and Carpaccio for entree and for pastas, we decided on the Tagliatelle al Ragu’ d’Agnello (Lamb Ragu) and Spaghetti al Granchio (Crab Meat pasta) and the Tartufata pizza.<br/><br/>I must say we were very happy with our choices as the dishes were spot on! The entrees were really nice and was a good sharing size. I really liked the Octopus as it was cooked really well and tender. The pastas were both really good and I could not even pick a favourite. The lamb ragu was cooked well and the flavours were really nice and the crab meat pasta was fresh and cooked to al dente perfection. I love anything with Truffles and the Tartufata is perfect for all truffle lovers our there. Love the fragrant truffle on the pizza and the dough was so light and chewy. <br/><br/>We really enjoyed our meal and Ecco and could not ask for me. Amazing Italian food and vibes all the way and the staff is friendly and attentive. There is a nice seating area inside and a small seating area outside which is good for warmer days. Highly recommend this spot when you’re in the area or if you’re wanting amazing pizzas and pastas.

A beautiful, authentic Italian restaurant in South Yarra, we were invited to try the menu. <br/><br/>We started with a classic Caprese salad, simple, quality ingredients made this classic dish a special one. <br/><br/>The tagliatelle with lamb ragu was divine, slow cooked, tender lamb in a rich tomato sauce with perfectly al dente tagliatelle. The house made ravioli was filled with sweet pumpkin which contrasted beautifully with the burnt butter & sage sauce & the crunch of walnuts. Safe to say that we cleaned our plates. <br/><br/>We finished with the desserts, a gorgeously wobbly, creamy pannacotta served with berries & the chocolate torta from the specials menu. I’m still thinking about the super rich & indulgent torta, such an impressive dessert dish. <br/><br/>The staff at Ecco were friendly & attentive and made our visit such a memorable one. If you appreciate authentic Italian food, this place is a gem, a lovely sophisticated interior & a fantastic range of dishes. Thanks so much for having us.

Invited out for dinner my first impression was sophistication. The restaurant has a classy yet casual feel to it. We started with the beef carpaccio and polpo piccante. The beef was thinly sliced making it tender and very refreshing. The octopus was melt in your mouth and the addition of nduja made the dish an explosion of flavour. For mains we tried two pasta dishes, slow cooked lamb ragu and a crab meat spaghetti and two pizzas, tartufata & salumiera. The pizza base was nice and thing with the right amount of chew to it. The pasta was cooked perfectly and <br/>Overall we all had a great dining experience and everything we tried was exceptional. <br/>Highly recommended for fine Italian food.

It's such a great pleasure to have visited this amazing Italian in downtown of South Yarra and was pleasantly amazed with the intimate and elegant ambiance. Classic European interior with modern touch.<br/><br/>We had their special pizza served with ham, pinenuts, pesto and WHOLE BURATTA CHEESE. YES IT'S WHOLE AND NOT TORN IN PIECES.<br/>The other highlights are the fluffy and pillowy Gnocchi Sorrentina and Shark Bay Crab meat Spaghetti which is total winner.<br/>I cant recommend enough to visit this restaurant.

Delicious Italian experience in the heart of South Yarra. We had the Tagliatelle Lamb Ragu, Crab Spaghetti and the Pepata pizza to share. Just wow. Will definitely be back to try more of their menu!
Hello. Imnikki
A stunning balance between fancy and casual, Ecco is a cosy Italian restaurant that is perfect for all occasions. With a focus on using fresh seasonal produce, Ecco is all about letting the natural flavours of the ingredients shine through.<br/><br/>Starting off with the delicate and tasty Carpaccio di Manzo, the thinly-sliced raw beef was the epitome of freshness, and the piquant flavour of the baby capers and parmesan punctuate each mouthful. The Polpo Piccante Grigllato featured tender slow-cooked octopus sitting on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes, with the intense nduja and zing from the basil pesto elevating the flavours of this dish to a whole other level. <br/><br/>Both pasta dishes were cooked to perfection. The Tagliatelle al Ragu d’Agnello (slow-cooked lamb ragu) was a rich and hearty dish that was comfort food at its finest. The Spaghetti al Granchio was characterised by bright and light flavours that dance on the palate, and was one that I could have finished all by myself. <br/><br/>The thin crispy base of the pizza impressed us all, and it’s no surprise seeing that the pizzas all have been cooked in the wood-fire oven that is unmissable once you walk into the restaurant. Truffle and mushrooms are always a match in heaven, and the Tartufata is an absolute must try.<br/><br/>I couldn’t resist ordering dessert, and the flourless chocolate cake was a delightful way to end the meal. The fudgy centre is reminisced of a brownie, and when paired with ice cream, it is a dream to eat. <br/><br/>A faultless meal from start to finish, dining at Ecco is truly a gastronomical delight. Thank you for the meal.

Their woodfired pizza is great and the service is top notice as well.

authentic italian served with passion and flare, we loved our visit to Ecco Gusto. To start we shared the pictured caprese and Rach has a delicious pasta as our main meals. Authentic and delicious!

Oh my the food here is melt in your mouth!! We started with calalamari fritti to share which was just delicious! For mains I had the ravioli, the flavour was absolutely impeccable and the dish looked beautiful. So many great sharing sides too and the pizza selection was diverse which is great for trying something new!

We escaped the chaos of buses replacing trains and busy peak hour on Toorak Road to step inside a beautiful classic style Italian restaurant just up from South Yarra station. Tables were beautifully set with linen and completed with a single rose, we felt like We had been transported to Italy.<br/><br/>Tonight we started with the semolina dusted calamari fritti, this wonderful calamari had the lightest crumb and was delicious with the green chilli and zesty lime mayo. It was the perfect starter with my refreshing Aperol spritz and the full flavoured na biretta rossa beer which I had never seen or tried anywhere else.<br/><br/>For mains we chose the steak from the specials board, scotch fillet with gratin cauliflower and beans. This was a beautiful cut piece of steak was generous in size and oh so tender and juicy, cooked medium rare as I requested and quite frankly it took all my will power not to lick the plate. Would definitely be the best steak I’ve had so far in 2020 and could quite possibly remain so for the rest of the year. <br/><br/>We also chose the Ecco pizza with roasted potatoes , cheese, pancetta, rosemary, oregano and garlic oil. Unfortunately for people reading this review you won’t get to experience the truely divine fragrance that hit the table the minute my pizza arrived. I am drooling on my phone, the fresh rosemary and oregano is just intoxicating. The deliciously thin base had a wonderful bubbly crust, and those delicious flavours of potato, pancetta and fresh herbs where just perfect.<br/><br/>With the enticing specials board we chose the torta of the day, the chocolate cake with almonds, Cointreau and vanilla ice cream. This cake was rich,  decadent and simply sublime, yum, yum and yum. This chocolate orange flavour was just terrific,  the base spectacular, dessert at its finest.<br/><br/>With faultless dining and service we thank Ecco for their hospitality.

Ecco is an authentic and cozy Italian restaurant in South Yarra that sure know a thing or two about good Italian food. We ordered the caprese salad and Parma pizza which were both delicious. Lovely atmosphere and great staff. Will be back.

Lovely Italian in South Yarra. Came here with a big group of family and everyone was please with how their meal went. Service as great, we were looked after from the moment we arrived. Food was delicious, we ordered a big variety to the table and loved every bite. We will be back again soon for some more nutella pizza.

If you are looking for a nice place to relax, enjoy your time and have amazing food - this is the place to be! We were blown away by the service and we had such a great time. We ordered some starters, the selection of Italian and local cured meats, pickled veg, grissini & cheese was wonderful! You can add olives and buffalo mozzarella too! We finished that so quickly wow!<br/>Their beef carpaccio was also really delicious - from here I knew we’re going to enjoy the rest of the meal!<br/>For mains, we ordered two dishes. The first one wad the spaghetti with crab meat, cherry tomato, chilli & garlic, topped with roasted breadcrumbs, and the second dish was the ox cheek slow cooked and marinated in red wine served with parsnip puree & pan fried baby carrots. Both beautifully cooked, delicious! The ox cheek was so tender and delicious I wanted to order another serve!<br/>To accompany our wonderful meal, we had the Orange Flamingo and Pimm’s Cup, which again, were equally amazing! I must say that I would personally choose the Orange Flamingo for my taste though!<br/>Overall, great dining experience! Definitely try them out!

I was lucky to have the opportunity to try Ecco’s new menu, and I was very impressed! We came on a Saturday night for an early dinner, and by the time we left the place was packed.<br/><br/>We started off with some cocktails - the Orange Flamingo and the Espresso Martini. I really loved the Orange Flamingo which was light, sweet and fruity. The Espresso Martini was really good too and one of their signatures.<br/><br/>Onto the entrees, we had the Polpo Piccante Grigilato (octopus) and the Carpaccio di Manzo (raw eye fillet beef). I really enjoyed the octopus - it was cooked very well and not chewy at all, and the mashed potato was very moorish. The beef was very soft, however it needed more seasoning as it tasted quite bland.<br/><br/>For mains, we had the Steak of the Day and the Gamberi Pizza. The steak, which was scotch fillet that day, was cooked well and tender. I loved the crispy polenta on the side. The pizza was enjoyable, and the base was thin and crispy which I really liked. <br/><br/>For dessert, we tried the Pannacotta and the Affogato con Liquore. The Pannacotta was delightful - although it was slightly more dense than I would've liked, I still enjoyed it. The Affogato was absolutely delicious! The espresso coffee was very strong and dark, and worked so well with the cold vanilla ice cream. I could have this everyday.<br/><br/>Overall, a beautiful Italian restaurant with delicious food and friendly service. The venue is lovely, and they can host big groups too.<br/><br/>Thank you so much for having us!

We were kindly invited to dine at Ecco and chose lunchtime on a Sunday to visit. Upon arrival we were seated, provided menus and water. <br/>We ordered the caprese salad and the carparccio for entrees. The ingredients were fresh and of excellent quality. Although the dishes looked simple, they were executed perfectly and tasted delicious. <br/>For mains we ordered the parma wood-fired pizza with added buffalo mozzarella and the sausage and brocolli orecchiette. The pizza based was nice and puffy and the toppings were plentiful. The only issue I had was that the base was a little wet so it became soggy and a little heavy. The pizza as a whole was delicious and I would not hesitate to order it again. The orecchitte was very tasty, done al dente and had plenty of sausage and brocolli in it. The flavours were very balanced. <br/>I wish we had space for dessert but we were stuffed to the brim. Service was excellent - our waiter was always checking in on us to see if we were OK. I highly recommend Ecco for delicious authentic Italian food. Thank you Ecco for your generosity.
Daisy Never Too Sweet
Friday night is usually date night for us, and this week we found ourselves at Ecco Gusto Italiano in Toorak. A cozy yet relaxed Italian restaurant with all the dishes you expect and more :) we started the night with some cocktails - Amaretto Sour and Espresso martini. Followed by the calamari fritti which was divine! <br/><br/>Next up was our mains, rib eye steak that was cooked medium rare served with polenta and spinach. We also ordered a pizza from the special menu with Gorgonzola cheese, speck and porcini mushroom.<br/><br/>Last but not least, we finished up with a delectable Nutella pizza with fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream.

We went to Ecco on Saturday night for dinner which happened to be the Grand Final day and surprisingly the restaurant is pretty packed. On the night, we got:<br/>- Polpo piccante grigliato (slow cooked octopus)<br/>- Carpaccio di manzo (raw beef eye fillet)<br/>- Bistecca del giorno (steak of the day)<br/>- Gamberi pizza (prawns)<br/>- Pannacotta<br/>- Affogato con liquore<br/>We absolutely love the slow cooked octopus dish, it was perfectly cooked with nice flavour. As for the carpaccio, we would preferred if the beef has some sort of seasoning since it was a bit bland. The steak of the day was scotch fillet which was perfectly cooked and tender. The panna cotta was light, smooth and silky and how they served the affogato was so cute. <br/>They also have good range of alcoholic drinks and cocktails. So we got Orange flamingo & Espresso martini which looked stunning and tasted great.<br/>Overall, great service and food and nice ambient and just within the walking distance to South Yarra station. Highly recommended this recommended this restaurant if you’re in the area!

These guys make the best pizza in a woodfire oven and the service was phenomenal! If you are looking for a good Italian restaurant, I suggest you give these guys a go. Not to mention their prices are reasonable.

Came here for a birthday with a bunch of my mates. The guys at Ecco really delivered great service and food. We highly recommend this place to anyone.

My friends came over from Brisbane and I have to treat them something distinct and good, so I looked up and found this gem. I have no idea what we look at so I leave it to James. He chose six dishes as attachment for us(4 adults and 2 kids), be honest, sea food is a bit too strong for me, everything else is just perfect. We had wonderful dinner with James looking after me, I am proud and my friends are extremely sastisfied.<br/>Thanks Ecco, Thanks James. Much appreciated!

Came here with my significant other. We really enjoyed the gnocchi, the sauce was perfect. They use a woodfire oven and it makes for the perfect pizza crust. Thanks for a great meal, we'll be back again soon!

MELBOURNE'S BEST LAMB PASTA<br/><br/>When we walked into this small restaurant on Toorak Road, we didn't know we were in for a treat but, boy, were we pleasantly surprised.<br/><br/>From the first step you take into the venue, you are instantly greeted with the intimate, Italian vibe of the romantic ambiance coupled with the relaxed but prompt service.<br/><br/>We ordered our pizza and pasta and as soon as they arrived, the fresh and colorful ingredients were just simply popping from the plate.<br/><br/>The lamb pasta was outstanding. The softest of lambs and the best al dente homemade pasta. A match made in heaven and a dish worth travelling back for.<br/><br/>The pizza is unique. Fresh ingredients, herbs to match it and the lightest, thinnest of dough to compliment all the great toppings.<br/><br/>We cannot wait to return

I live in this area and this place is hands down one of my most favourite Italian restaurants. The menu is very authentic. Their Italian style pasta and pizzas are to die to for!The main dishes have some very exciting options in them as well. The vegetarian and vegan options are also a welcomed addition since they make dining easier with friends and family. Melbourne dot food recommends!

Forget sushi pizza, rainbow cannoli and other culinary fads saturating your Instagram. Ecco Il Ristorante transports you to humble Italian roots with traditional recipes that even nonnas would rate. Originally from Rome, Chiara Ricci took over Ecco in 2017 to re-create the authentic Italian dining experience. Chocolate furnishings, candlelit tables (each adorned with a rose), and a cosy fireplace create a charming Tuscan ambience. Take your amore here on date night or round up your best girlfriends for an evening of good food, wine and true Italian hospitality.  <br/><br/>The menu features a variety of fresh antipasti, primi (pasta), secondi (mains), pizzas and desserts. Each of their 13 pizzas, ranging from Margherita to Tartufata with truffle and mushroom cream, are hand-stretched and woodfired to chewy, fluffy perfection.<br/><br/>Start with a light antipasto, like the caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella, then indulge in some pasta, pizza or a hearty main. Top picks include the homemade saffron tagliatelle with slow cooked lamb and the roasted pork belly with braised brussel sprouts and apple puree. Tie it all together with some vino from Ecco’s fine selection. If you like reds, the Chianti and Sangiovese come recommended. Salute! <br/><br/>Still have room left? Treat yourself to some classic Italian sweets, like tiramisu and panna cotta. Vegans are also invited to the party with vegan cheese, pizzas, parmigiana and dessert on the menu (there’s vegan Nutella pizza!).

Ecco is such a cute little Italian place in South Yarra. I love their fresh home made pastas, and the cured meats are delicious. It’s a nice place to visit any night of the week, or even for a special occasion.

You can find this little gem on Toorak Road close to the South Yarra station. It's a small charming Italian restaurant that serves authentic woodfire oven pizza as well as pasta and lots of drinks.<br/><br/>I ordered a traditional Pizza Margherita with buffalo mozzarella and it is definitely one of the best I had in Melbourne. The crust is super crunchy and the dough thin and soft. They use the original San Marzano tomatos which you can tell by the strong flavor of the tomato sauce. I will definitely come back here when I am craving for pizza!<br/><br/>All in all a charming restaurant with friendly staff and very authentic Italian food.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Come for the pizza and stay for the espresso Martini's. Loved the base and fluffy crust of the pizza, very authentic! The Martini was almost perfect, good depth and very flavoursome.
Phil Rowe
An intimate and quaint Italian restaurant which despite being on Toorak Rd in South Yarra was excellent value. The food was utterly fantastic and the service was truly exceptional both friendly and professional.

We came to Ecco for pizza night and it was delicious! <br/><br/>Entrees consisted of mussels and calamari and my favourite salad , the caprese<br/><br/>The calamari was light and tender , not oily at all and the mussels full of flavour - the mussels were cooked perfectly and absorbed the sauce really nicely <br/><br/>The pizza I ordered was the potato pizza and that was sensational! Carbs on carbs what can be better than that? I was also able to sample some other flavours around the table , the calzone was defiantly the standout !<br/><br/>For dessert we sampled the panacotta and tiramisu , the panacotta was so good I kept going in for more , super jiggly and reminded me of a yoghurt dessert <br/><br/>Thanks for having us !

Great place on Toorak Road! Absolutely enjoyed dining here - from the mussels and calamari to start with, to the pizzas to the fabulous desserts like tiramisu and affogato. The dining room upstairs is beautiful and the staff are so hospitable and lovely.

I had an incredible foodie night at Ecco ! They have an amazing array of the classics and their own twists too! A favourite was the Tartufata pizza - truffle and mushroom cream, sausage, porcini mushroom, fior di latte, parsley with some added procuitto - what a dream ☁️

When you walk into a restaurant and see a big beast of a wood-fire oven you can't help but want to try the pizza. Alongside a range of Italian dishes, Ecco have a long list of pizza on the menu including gluten-free bases and vegan options. We tried a range of pizzas and it’s hard to decide which one I like most. All of them, I like all of them.
Michael Adams
A touch of Italy at half the price . I became a Paesano in the first 5 minutes . The vegetarian egg plant parmagiana is excelent. No complaints highly recommended.

Ecco il Ristorante located at the heart of Toorak Road just literally 5 minutes walk from South Yarra Station. It gives you the premium, neat and classic Italian look with all the white table clothes all over the tables in the main floor. Our bloggers night located at their private functions upstairs.
Food Josh
The food at Ecco was delicious. <br/>We were presented with Midori spritz’ which were a delicious take on the Italian Apertif the Aperol Spritz! <br/><br/>For entree there was a delicious Salted Calamari that I will be dreaming of! Matched with some<br/>Delicious Muscles, this was a great way to kick off the menu. <br/><br/>For mains I had the woodfired Pizza with Truffle and it was delicious!<br/><br/>And finally for dessert the Tiramisu was delicious. <br/><br/>I can’t wait to come back to try the rest of the menu!
Goodfoodpapi
Such a cosy environment with super friendly staff. Had their calamari as entree, shark bay crab meat spaghetti and finished it off with a Nutella pizza for dessert. Went home very content with all the dishes! Thank you

We were invited to an event at Ecco tonight which was literally just down the road from another pizza place I’d recently visited. The difference at Ecco is the atmosphere and interior are a little more premium. <br/><br/>We began the evening with some calamari, a caprese salad and a dish of mussels. I’m a big fan of the classic Italian flavours of a Caprese and I thoroughly enjoyed this start to the meal. The calamari was garnished with green chillies which had a serious kick and gave the dish some heat. <br/><br/>Main wise I went for a Margherita and added buffalo mozzerella, simple but authentic. I definitely recommend adding the cheese, yum. I also tried some of the gamberi pizza which was extremely tasty. I loved the bursts of sweetness from the cherry tomatoes<br/><br/>We finished on a sweet note with a super light and creamy panna cotta. I was told by an Italian that this is exactly how a panna cotta should be. I also tried the Nutella pizza which looked stunning and will forever be a crowd favourite. Can’t go wrong with that!

As one of the many upmarket Italian eateries dotted along Toorak Road, Ecco certainly not disappoint.<br/>With a true Italian at the helm and sporting a woodfired oven, Ecco dishes up true classics that are bound to satisfy your tastebuds.
@foodtom
Ecco! What can I say, delicious AF pasta. The menu was a little small but they absolutely will blow you away with how good it tastes & they have a ton of specials. Definitely worthwhile checking out if you're in the area.

Coming from someone with a large Italian family, we had some of the best pasta in Melbourne here at Ecco. The spaghetti was a 10/10, rich tomato based sauce and the serve was a small mountain. <br/>Very friendly staff and top service. The menu is smallish but they had quite a few specials on offer. The wood fire pizzas are amazing, the crust is so light and fluffy. We got a dessert pizza too which had so much Nutella, very decadent but delicious and perfect to share at the end of a meal. Will definitely be back!!
Ralena
The pizza was really good! Classic Italian pizza and classic recipes, nothing less nothing more. The gnocchi was so so and kind of sweet in the sauce so that was weird. What I also don’t like about this place is the restricted and limited menu. Basically there are a few dishes of pasta pizza and mains. The service is outstanding though, really good attention to client and very nice staff. <br/>
Maggie Quach
Exceptional service, best pork belly I have<br/>Ever experienced! Great back area and courtyard for large groups. Awesome deserts. Can’t wait to go again.

We had a groupon for some Mexican place that treats groupon buyers like crap. Had I known, I wouldnt have bought my first groupon. While waiting for our table for well over an hour, we decided to leave the restaurant and go for coffee here.<br/><br/>Service, decor, everything was great. I admit we didnt order anything so I cant review based on that, but happy with everything else.
Pramitha Ranshika
Super awesome food, romantic atmosphere, friendly staff made our anniversary celebration night an extra special one.<br/>For a moment we felt like it was Rome. A great place to go out for a dinner.
Ernest
Went there for dinner a few days ago to catch up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while. Well established and classy establishment with fine food and Italian wines - the sort of thing I appreciate more now that I have actually been to Italy. The owner is Italian and had a great time chatting to him in Italian- something I rarely get a chance to do. Great entres and I enjoyed a fantastic pasta as the main. Made a bit of a fool of myself assuming all the other staff spoke Italian, but my friends could all laugh at me for trying to show off.
<br/><br/>I dare say the pizza could be better than my Nonna’s, or even the best in Melbourne!!
Giuseppe Colosimo
This place is absolutely fantastic<br/>I been here many times and it never disappoint<br/>The food is 100 % italian and the management at his top.<br/>I try the risotto today and it taste fresh homemade like nonna's cooking well done<br/><br/>

<br/>I'm not sure when bread stopped being free in restaurants, but we were hungry, so ordered the pizza bread, which was just a base with garlic and rosemary for $10 ! <br/>The pizzas were good, and that is why I did rate a 2. One of us had Capriciosa which was delicious, not too much or too little of anything. I ordered a truffle and mushroom pizza that also had sausage on it, I like things a little different and this was good, no complaints, except from the others at the table who didn't like it as much, but were happy with the capriciosa.  <br/>The ravioli was very ordinary and hardly there - 3 pieces of ravioli on a huge plate. My friend had ordered ravioli before the renovation and was served a generous portion, today, at $30 for a spinach and ricotta I think it was, nothing fancy, the portion was tiny and not all that tasty. <br/>The other dish we ordered was a salmon carpaccio with a light and fresh citrus dressing. <br/>We also ordered a tiramisu for dessert, as we really were trying to recreate a sense of YES ! the tiramisu was good - finally at last, something we could all agree we liked ! <br/>But alas, it was not a great experience. <br/>This is certainly priced on the higher end of small restaurants, but when the bill came and not even dessert was comped, we certainly did not feel like valued or appreciated customers who have to come back. <br/>Italian restaurants should be friendly and warm and welcoming with lots of wonderful food on the plates that you just can't finish.

Was here for last year Valentine’s Day dining! Early Bookings are required for occasional dining , but other wise also this place is quiet crowded always .Lovely staff, nice cozy ambience and amazing food ,, definitely a place for a Romantic dinner. Would recommend to visit this place once.
Vanessa
I came on Valentines Day with a friend. I was so impressed with this place. The food, the wine choice and the staff were exceptional. would have to be the best Italian Restaurant in South Yarra, Toorak and Prahran area! The intimate setting with the music and atmosphere is amazing!
Jon Marcard
Awful night. Left before meals arrived. 90 minutes!!! At least they comped the drinks. New management don’t have a clue. Not enough staff in the kitchen.
Debby Palti
It’s ok, nothing amazing. I had the fish which was alright but I have had better. It came with spinach and that’s it so I ordered potatoes. Their polenta chips were really tasty and probably the best thing. Others had pasta which looked very simple. Service was average and one of our guests is still waiting for his coffee after telling the waiter twice. The place was not full. A bit over priced, doubt we will go again.

Amazing food, classic Italian food. <br/>A real pleasure 🍺🧀<br/>Chefs technique with a classic Woden oven it was impressive, amazing service, staff kind and respectful, all the experience was like being back in Italy.

Today I visited Ecco in South Yarra for lunch. I didn't expect much, last time I went the food I had wasn't anything to write home about. However, this time I've converted my religion to eccoism! I had the Gnocci and tiramisu (or to-rami-Su as one of my associates calls it). The Gnocci at first looked unusual, as they combined the tomato sauce with cheese, thus changing the colour. It still managed to contain a great taste! The store was small and warm. You felt like you were in Italy, since the people who worked there were Italian. With all good things there are bad things, the only negative I found was that the tiramisu was a bit too strong, and there was barley any sponges but other jab that it was quite worth it!!!!!
Happy Tummy
I went there on Mel Cup Eve. It was nice and busy. The service was great and the food was yummy. <br/>I recommend the sticky fig pudding. <br/>Will definitely go there again :) :)
Mr_blueberry
Been going there for years and has never disappointed. Great Italian food, great service. Antipasto are great. Pizzas are thin and delicious.
Fanny Foodie
Like that place. Been here a few times and always same good quality. Service a bit poor but the pizzas are really nice. We can really taste the wood fire quality pizza!!
Robin Yang
Ecco! When it comes to authentic wood fire pizzas, you will not be disappointed here. Came to have a quiet dinner with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We ordered a pancetta, cheese & olives pizza, salad with a side of fries. Food was excellent, service was attentive and ambience was comfortable. Recommended!
Emi Sui
I have been going to this place for years and truly enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. The pizzas are always freshly made. Entree and other main dishes are simply but tasty.
Marco Cedriano
Nice Italian food old style but super tasty! Gnocchi, agnolotti, spaghetti alla chitarra all suggested dishes! Pizza, really nice, Roma style, not Naples but really good!
Georgie Jenkins
Great for big groups!<br/>Gorgeous courtyard out the back. I hosted a birthday dinner with 15 people, we had the courtyard to ourselves and enjoyed shared woodfired pizzas. Service was good as were the pizzas. Very well priced also. Would highly recommend for large groups.
Filet De Boeuf
Simply the best authentic Italian pizza in the area. Many try, but none come close to Ecco. If you're after a Naples-style pizza as a break from the thick-based Western-style pizza prevalent in Melbourne, this is the place to go. Del Salumiere is my pick of the bunch. Pasta is great too, be sure to try the Orecchiette and the Gnocchi.
Karthick Narayana
Had Australia day dinner at ECCO with my family. The food was so good. The menu has a decent number of vegetarian options and most importantly the veggie food tastes amazing. The dessert menu is to die for .. you know it when a 10 yr old licks his plate clean  :) the things licked clean were Panna cotta(without berries), Sticky Fig pudding... :)
SOUR Grapes
The meals and the service weren't worth the price tag! The service was OK at the start of the night (OK - not friendly, just OK), until the waiter asked us how our meals were. We answered honestly - that one was overcooked - and then the service became very frosty! They didn't offer to replace the meal (we wouldn't have bothered, but it would have been nice to be asked!) and went on to disagree that the meal was overcooked. Apparently the waiter is always right at Ecco!
Ashyveggielover
Favourite Italian in Melbourne. In particular, the gnocchi is outstanding. <br/>Amazing above and beyond service, manager recognises us and make us feel at home.<br/>Always a wonderful experience, will continue to bring family and friends here to enjoy.
Alexia Kara
Lovely, simple Italian! Been here twice and both times were pleasant. The restaurant is small but so cosy with a great ambience. Great for a date night! The pasta in particular I love here. I recommend the pasta in lobster sauce. Delish!!
Elle Chen
This was my first time been here. The food was amazing especially the dessert pannacotto, and the atmosphere was nice and warm, made you feel like at home.
Kate
Lovely simple Italian, sweet romantic atmosphere, pleasant family style service. What more could you ask for?<br/><br/>I have come back here again a few times and it is consistently good.
Geoff
An amazing place. Reasonably attended with affluent locals. But the older, tight arse crew, who do not intend to overspend on food, clothes and cannot possibly care about good food, and so on!<br/><br/>This was my second visit as it's close to home and the first was not all bad. I figured it may be useful as a moderate priced Italian styled place. <br/><br/>Do not bother!<br/>Service from a harassed Asian girl, who made me feel that she was doing me a favour! But she smiled at bill time. Her boss just sneered. <br/><br/>Main - Quails that read good, sounded good but were overcooked and made even more crappy by the overriding bad, non Italian taste. <br/><br/>House Shiraz was terrible. At least the back up Shiraz Cab seemed freshly opened. BYO is best. If you're game. <br/>I guess it's a 2 to 2.5, and not really fine eating. But it's cheap. $52 for Main, two wines and coffee. <br/><br/>But I am done with it. <br/>Geoff Birtles

Detail: have come here a few times for dinner and never been disappointed. The pizza is very tasty, nothing unique about it but it is still delicious! Home style Italian cuisine! Unfortunately, there is a limited menu! <br/><br/>Service: so far have had lovely waiters at all times.<br/><br/>Decor: beautiful interior, makes you feel like you're in a cute little restaurant somewhere in a town in Italy.
Harrykarakinos
Great pizzas , awesome food. Great service. Just probably needs a little refurbishment inside but food never disappoints. A little gem in South Yarra
Michelle
Food-substandard, boring. Salmon was a small portion with minimal flavour. Duck and mushroom risotto had no duck, didn't even have the flavour of duck. Calamari was nice.. That's it. <br/>Service-rude and unhelpful. Corkage was extremely expensive and when questioned the waiter was arrogant and dismissive. <br/>I will not be recommending nor will I ever revisit.
JB
Ecco, Ecco is that 1983 I hear? Service was excellent, fun staff on top of the dining room. The kitchen needs a injection of excitement and enthusiasm.
Nooshin_ha
We used to go to this place almost every Friday evening and stopped going a couple of years ago since the quality of food dropped. We tried this place again this week after a four year gap and had same good experience as the past. It is a very cozy and comfortable Italian restaurant with beautiful food specially the wood fire pizza. Price is reasonable but 15 dollar corkage fee for a bottle of wine when there was only 2 of us was a bit unfair though.
Slobodan Bradic
Very good pizza. Thin, simple and fresh.<br/> .
Kate
First up, I had Ecco pizzas delivered through Suppertime. I didn't dine in. <br/><br/>When you order something in this form, you have to expect that the quality won't be the same as if it's brought to your table from a kitchen a few metres away, which always makes me wary when restaurants claim to deliver desserts that include ice cream - or something like hot chips. How will they maintain their integrity?<br/><br/>Although the capricciosa pizza, Margherita pizza and garlic and herb focaccia were just warm, the dough was crispy and soft and stretchy in all the right places. The mushrooms on my capricciosa were divine - as if they'd been cooked down with some porcini stock, although I don't know that - they were just really richly flavoured).<br/><br/>This was my first experience with Ecco and I will happily try it again, but I'll probably just go there next time.

Ecco had been one of our favourite restaurants in the area<br/>for some time – but not after our experience on Tuesday.<br/><br/> <br/><br/><br/><br/>Where do I begin:<br/><br/> <br/><br/>a. the temperature in the restaurant was unbearable – was their air conditioner broken? Are they trying to save money by not turning them<br/>on? Why did ythey leave the front door open to let the heat in? Made for very<br/>uncomfortable dining<br/><br/> <br/><br/>And it cost them business, we just wanted to get out<br/>so didn’t have dessert or coffee – we just wanted to get outside for some fresh<br/>air<br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/>b. we ordered a bottle of the Italian Pinot Grigio – it took<br/>three attempts before we got the bottle we actually ordered<br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/>c.  three of the main meals arrived at the same time,<br/>my pizza arrived just as the others were finishing their mains<br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/>d. clearly the pizza had been forgotten because after asking<br/>about it, it then appeared with a soggy base – clearly it had been rushed out<br/>of the oven<br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/>e. seafood must have been in high demand on the night<br/><br/> <br/><br/>1. I ordered the seafood pizza – lots of undercooked<br/>tomatoes ( another sign the pizza was rushed ) but I don’t think there was any<br/>seafood on it. Maybe half a prawn?<br/><br/> <br/><br/>2. my partner ordered the seafood pasta for main – instead<br/>she got entrée size and with the other half of a prawn<br/><br/> <br/><br/> <br/><br/>We were extremely disappointed<br/><br/> <br/><br/>I know they are busy and whether or not we return will make<br/>no difference to them<br/><br/> <br/><br/>But at least we feel better knowing that we won’t be back<br/>any time soon
Nelly
I ordered a main from the specials menu. Eggplant, ricotta, tomato pasta. For $23 it was nice but ordinary and could have been a bit more generous. So It was over priced for this dinner. <br/><br/>This Margaretta pizza looked amazing. But unfortunately again ordinary. Then came the dessert. It was amazing. My daughters shared a pastry with Nutella & banana. Can't go wrong with that & they certainly nailed it. My tiramisu was delicious, my husband tried the sticky fig pudding & was blown away. <br/><br/>The thing is for me as much as dessert was great, I think that really when paying that much it shouldn't be just dessert that's worth the price.
David Lew
Service not too bad, although it was a bit warm and had to ask for the air conditioning to be turned on. Also ran out of table water quickly and they had to be asked for it to be refilled.<br/><br/>Margarita pizza - pretty good, although more basil and a saltier/richer cheese would have contrasted with the sweet tomato base better, had they gone that direction. Not too bad though. I did enjoy the thin base and crusty edge.<br/><br/>My wife ordered the pasta special - $23 but it was a little small. I'm happy to pay that amount for a small pasta if it was really great, but this was just good (say, 7/10).<br/><br/>Ordered dessert to fill us up a bit more. Tiramisu, sticky fig pudding, and a banana split calzone of sorts. DESSERTS WERE AMAZING at a very reasonable price.<br/><br/>
Lindsay
Enjoyed midweek lunch at Ecco with friends.   Just walked in without booking - plenty of tables available.   Food was excellent.  I enjoyed my seafood lasagne with bÊchamel sauce.   Tiramisu and coffee were also very good.    Prices were fair for the quality of food.   Corkage at $15 seemed a little steep.   Service was very good.
Roomain Liger
Firewood pizza. The pizza were good but I think there is not much to eat on them. So the good point is firewood pizza that's it ! Service was good also.
Mariposa
Some of the best Italian in Melbourne! The seafood spaghetti was to die for! The flavor of the sauce is married beautiful with the flesh of the pasta! (As opposed to most restaurants where the sauce falls off the pasta and the flavors are not combined effectively). The pizzas are of excellent standards also when it comes to the pastry and varieties of fillings. Now the panna cotta is divine! Perfect texture, sweetness and great balance with the berry coulis. Mmmm... Perrrrrrrfection ; )
Shlomi
Good Italian. Beautifully made dishes and a nice cosy place.<br/>We've ordered the Carpaccio for a start which was really tasty with fresh rocket, but the bread was a bit simple.<br/>For mains, we took the special pasta - red pine mushroom and a duck risotto. Both were very good with beautiful flavours, but the pasta and the rice were a bit overcooked for us.<br/>Finished with a great Tiramisu.<br/>With 2 glasses of wine bill was ~100$, which is ok for Italian in Melbourne.
