Review Ginza Teppanyaki - Melbourne

Jessica Perrett
Came in on a Saturday night and was very lucky we were able to get a seat. We got the set #2 and the seafood set and both had amazing food. All was cooked to perfection with great sauces and flavours. Our chef was a great sport and managed to do all the games and keep us entertained even with a full section. The only reason it's 4 stars not 5 is how slow it was to get our drinks out to us. However it looked like that might of been a tonight only issue as the waitresses seemed stressed about it.

Great experience plus good food. The chef makes it fun as well with the tricks and games he plays with parties on the table. Unless you have big group you will be sharing the table with others, but the chairs are well spread out so it doesn’t get cramped. We went for the seafood lover set menu. Everything was fresh and right in front of your eyes. The prawn, oysters , miso soup , sushi roll all was great.

We had a dinner just right before new years eve. But i think all the staff were actually rushing to get home for new year’s eve. You should not have open a late table reservation if you know the customer wont be able to experience the best service you could actually offer. Not worth the money.

Dinner @GinzaTeppanyaki and chose set 2 - the meat eater. We're seated around the grill and our chef is friendly as we watch the preparation of the dishes. Miso soup - smooth and warming, so delicious Meat sushi - thinly sliced Wagyu beef atop rice - so delicious, I really liked this little mouthful Yakitori chicken skewer - yum, tender chicken, sauce caramelized, I really like the spring onion which withers and has a sweet taste. A soft creamy mash potato, bean sprouts mixture, and a lamb cutlet with a lovely sauce was next and each was tasty, particularly the chop which is cooked perfectly and the sauce is excellent, though the bean sprouts lacked flavour. Beef was cooked with quite a show, oil + blowtorch = flames and lots of heat. This produced a lovely tender plate of exquisitely cooked beef immersed in a fantastic flavoursome miso sauce. Teriyaki chicken Super succulent pieces of juicy chicken covered in a light teriyaki sauce, very enjoyable The chef makes a very thin long omelette and here begin the food games as it's cut into little pieces and thrown for you to catch in your mouth. Then it's stepped up several notches with a "machine gun" fire of omelette at considerable speed at your face. Good luck catching that! Next, 6 white bowls are thrown at you to be caught in a stack, which is the forerunner to the last game and final dish. Catch a bowl of fried rice in a white bowl, fortunately none spilt. Not bad but needed a little more seasoning and flavour. I definitely wanted some dessert so chose ice cream which is 2 scoops and fortunately you can choose 2 flavours from the 3 on offer. I went with green tea and black sesame which had an excellent flavour and was very enjoyable. The food games are a little unusual but part of the show, as is, watching the chef at work. Entertaining, tasty dinner, perfectly cooked meat, some dishes need a little tweak to increase the flavour. Fun night out. #Japanesefood #teppanyaki #foodgames #misosoup #yakitori #sushi #wagyu #teriyakichicken #beef #lambcutlet #friedrice #icecream #greentea #blacksesame #sweettooth #dessert #foodie #melbournefood #melbournecbd @zomatomelb

Came here for lunch after shopping. The overall food quality was okay and the portions were generous. It was quiet during the lunch time, probably most ppl opted for delivery. There were two matters bothered me, the table and chairs had oil stains, and tofu cubes in the free miso soup before the meal were not fresh.

We had a dinner last night with 5 of my friends and it was a amazing experience. Specially staffs are very friendly and professional. I must thanks the supervisor lady, sorry forgot her name, she arrange me a private room to perform my pray, thank you. Food was excellent and all the staffs are very knowledgeable. I am highly recommending this place

Amazing restaurant. Went here for lunch with the family, the kids loved the show and all the games (catching egg in your mouth and catching bowls). The service is spectacular, couldn't fault them. But the food was astranomical. Will definitely be back soon!!

Expensive and I dare say not really Japanese. Food was ok but nothing special, servings were small, we paid nearly $200 for the 2 prawns, a bit of steak, a bit of fish and chicken thigh. Service was good.

For the price it was good. Went for fathers day. What I did not like was that we had to share a table with another family and the tables are not wide (like at Kobe Jones) so there was not enough privacy. All in all though the food was great, the kids enjoyed, hubby enjoyed, lovely lunch for all.

Definately a great night out, and a different experience..our chef was young and although lovely couldn't understand me. I think it would have been a much funnier experience with someone with more experience perhaps . Prices a little high, but with that said everything tasted lovely and meat was super tender. Would have liked a bit more substance to the vegie and rice dishes for what you pay.

My husband and I had a great time here. The food was fantastic, best steak, lamb and chicken I've ever had!!! And the fluffy duck cocktails were pretty great as well

Went with a group of workmates and we had a great time. The food was delicious and our chef was very funny; it was a first for many of us so will definitely be back!

The food was very nice but the servings were quite small for my liking...I was part of a larger group & came a little late so all my food was cooked separately which was fantastic of them & they were very accommodating...if the food portions where bigger then this would definitely be somewhere I would come again...I’m unsure what the package was but I got, cup of soup, cup of rice, some squid & some steak & a serve of Asian salad...it seems a lot writing this but portions small & I left feeling I could have had another serving of all the above to feel a bit full...if you don’t like big portions then this place is definitely nice as the steak & squid were very well cooked and nice & tender

Super awkward performance, tasteless food, absolutely overpriced and overrated

My family and I visited Ginza Teppanyaki for my Dad & Cousin's birthday and it was a great experience.<br/>Most of the group got set 2, and my brother in law and I got set 4 as we are bigger fans of seafood. Every piece of food we were served was fantastic - I can't even decide what I liked the most. Everything was cooked perfectly and there was a generous amount of each type of food - especially the chicken and beef tenderloin. We were supposed to get the 'Chefs Special' in set 4, however I believe this was missed (this is my reasoning behind giving a 4 star review instead of 5).<br/>It was my parents first time at Teppanyaki and they absolutely loved it - from the food to the entertainment. As it was my Dad's birthday we all sung happy birthday too him and we all enjoyed a laugh when fried egg was flying across the table at him (most of which missed his mouth).<br/>Longer seating times would be nice - but overall we had a great night out. I would highly recommend visiting Ginza Teppanyaki!

The overall experience was quite good, with the atmosphere quite fun. It involved the chef engaging in a few fun activities, and interacting with the other people you shared the table with. I would say the sets were rather small and it wasn’t filling. The food was good, but the quantity for the price that it was set for was not great and the adults set was pretty much the same size as the kids set, so i would say it was a bit too pricey. Otherwise, the staff were really friendly and service was great.

A lovely evening, food and service were excellent! The interactive menu was a great experience. I'll definitely be back again with friends and family.

Visited Ginza Teppanyaki on Little Bourke St for a friend's birthday.<br/>We're greeted by lovely staff and seated immediately.<br/>The menu has great variation and can cater for most needs especially vegetarians.<br/>I choose Set 1 which was a good mix of meat, fish and veggies.<br/>Our cook Jackson was highly professional and entertaining.<br/>Food was fantastic!!!<br/>Will definitely be back again.<br/>Rating: 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟

<br/>Was ok food was pretty boring and I just don’t get people wanting to have egg flicked at their face? Pretty expensive for the plain food you get.
Lydia Zhang
Worst customer service experiences in Japanese cuisine ever. The price will shock you as it didn’t match the food quality and environment. Tried so many good Japanese cuisine in Melbourne this one is the worst. Never go back

Casual teppanyaki experience.<br/><br/>The place is pretty spacious, there are quite a few tables, all designed to surround a small space where the chef does the cooking. The place is a little bit dim and was not too busy on a sunday night.<br/>The staffs were pretty nice, we were directly seated and they were always attentive in changing our plates. The cooking starts about 5-10 mins after we were seated. It was pretty fun, the chef did some attractions and asked whether we wanted to play (i didn't because it can get pretty messy 😅). The pace between each dish was also pretty good. Though it's smokey so be prepared to smell like it, and could be bit hot too.<br/><br/>I had their set 4.<br/>It starts with sashimi (tuna and salmon) which were fresh. The mentai sushi was decent. The prawns were fresh and tasted yum, mashed potatoes were pretty good as well, not too oily nor rough. The chicken was pretty nice, taste ans texture wise, so was the beef. Stir fried beansprouts were decent, nice texture. Lastly the fried rice was pretty tasteless and miso soup was nothing fancy. <br/><br/>They also offered fried prawn head which i was hesitant to try but it was actually pretty good, crunchy and have a strong umami flavor. I love their yuzu sake though, refreshing and sweet which I love.<br/><br/>Overall, a great experience though I'm not so sure if this set is worth its price, maybe try their cheaper sets if you want to experience the fun.<br/><br/>( follow for more!✨)<br/><br/>xx,joelle.
Some Bunee Loves Food
The sets were easy to choose from during lunch but the chef that we had for teppanyaki seemed inexperienced and did not do those fancy knives tricks like we have seen before. She wasn't as interacting and threw the bowl so inaccurately it hit my friend's face. At one stage, a glass cup was also cracked during the throwing that glass was all over me.<br/><br/>Food portions were a bit small which was expected for these places but was just a bit disappointed with the entertainment.
Good Food Good Mood
I visited Ginza on the spur of the moment for dinner with a friend. I generally love the theatre of teppanyaki but it’s not my favourite style of food as I find it not overly filling yet relatively expensive. We just went for the basic $59 set as it’s better value and more variety than trying to go a la carte.<br/><br/>Ginza boasts the largest prawns available in Australia which was impressive and the signature steak was exceptionally tender and flavoursome. I couldn’t fault the quality of the proteins used and the fried rice was also extremely tasty. You get several sauces to accompany the meat which are subtle enough not to overpower but simply enhance the charred meat. Overall Ginza exceeded my expectations

What an awesome experience visiting this place! I’d never done something like this before but it was worth it! I really enjoy the idea of watching the food be made, and then the interactive aspect. Getting everyone involved and it was great hearing all the laughing around the tables! No matter what course you get, they make it fun and entertaining! I’d like to go back in a bigger group soon!
Little Pink Piggy
Had a Christmas catch up in the private back room with my extended family. We went for the 59 dollar option. Food was good and the entertainment was spot on. However I wouldn't say this restaurant represents value for money. There wasn't much food for the price.
Kylie
Have never done Teppanyaki before so not experience preciously but it was absolutely amazing! We last minute found this spot half hr before it closed and they still let us take part. So it was quite empty since it wasnt really lunchtime.<br/>It was a simple 3 course set menu with Miso soup, fried rice and you get the option of 2 different meats from a selection of about 7 or 8 different meats.<br/>We chose the calamari, fish, beef and lamb cutlet. I couldnt fault any of it. It was all cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth.<br/>Towards the end the chef will play a few games with u which was hilarious being that we didn't know what to expect. Fantastic experience as well as food will definitely go back next time we are here.
Duongkhoa14
The food was bland and the performance was boring. You will get 1 prawn, some chopped up squid and chicken a few pieces of steak (not include drink and dessert) for $50 set<br/>This place is just a Chinese style bussiness not Japanese. Do not waste your money and time here. if you have no idea about Japanese Teppanyaki this place is okay to start with.

Made a reservation for 7pm and came for my mum's birthday 🎂 my family and I have been craving teppanyaki for ages, the restaurant looked really nice, there was only one table semi occupied, the rest were empty and we were seated at the remaining seats of that table. The other half of the table had a bunch of screaming customers (this is no exaggeration), overly excited playing a "catch the food with your mouth" game and "catch the stacking bowls" game 😐 I do like an exciting environment but that was just over the top noisy honestly and they were sitting right next to us... That wasn't it though, not even 5 minutes have passed and the waitress stood behind us asking if we were ready to order and so we said no, then she insists we order ASAP or at least she used the term "faster", I'm sorry but we're here for a relaxing meal and not in a rush? Then she explains that the chef needs to cook the food for both our and the other customer's table, and the other table had already ordered (mind you that the other customers had already ordered before we even arrived at the restaurant), we left without hesitation and went somewhere where we weren't rushed at all. So I suggest to anyone that wants to dine here, please be mindful of what your choice on the menu will be prior to arrival, because you will not have time to look at the menu and decide at the time, properly anyway. Disappointing.

I've always loved a good teppanyaki, and have been meaning to try Ginza teppanyaki for quite a while. We finally went here for my birthday this year, and I must say I was very pleased with my experience.<br/>We ordered Set 4, which includes the following:<br/>Miso Soup, sashimi, California roll, prawn, scallop, chicken, beef tenderloin, mixed vegetable, and fried rice.<br/>Food was excellent, service was great! Very pleased.
SauSha
Enjoyed bento box a couple of times here using the groupon voucher. Can say it is good for the price. Taste is average. Quantity is good. Overall a nice experience. Didnt liked the drinks - only included are coffee or tea. Tea is not authentic one but just a tea bag in warm cup of water. Also, coffee is not that good. Can include soft drinks in voucher.
Windyy
Ordered set 4, sashimi was great, California roll was also great however scallop was kinda dried :/, beef sirloin was very bland and chicken also dried. And don’t waste your money on mocktail guys. Service was good tho.

I have been to Ginza teppanyaki more times than I can count- it is by far the best teppanyaki restaurant I have ever come across. The food has wonderful flavour, is cooked always to perfection, the staff are happy and friendly and the chefs are always fun to watch and have a laugh with. The food is reasonably priced compared to the quality and amount you get in more expensive restaurants (such as in Japan). There is a large range of menu options and add-ons and they accommodate very well to children (allowing for 1/2 the portion size and price of set menus). Highly recommend.
Daniel
Delicious lunch menu. For only $12.80, I had the salmon bento box. The salmon was grilled to perfection and not overly cooked. The fried rice was not salty and it complemented the side dishes.

Have a birthday dinner there. it's a quite good place and food with sucks manager. we have a good experience and food there. Good cooking performance by the chef However, when we want to get the cake for the surprise, we ask for the manager help. but the first thing that come out from his mouth is " ya ya ya someone with serve you". we try to explain on how we are going to surprise my girlfriend's sister but he say the same things in a very rude way without listening to us. it is good that the waitresses say sorry to us BUT not the idiot manager. One of the waitress called him to say sorry, but guess what? that idiot old man did not want to come. He even said "what's wrong' in chinese without feeling guilty when we want to leave the place<br/><br/>I do not usually write a review, but this one is necessary. Give 4 star for the food and -3 for the unpolite manager. He should go to learn Customer Service 101. The restaurant is way better without him. It's good for the owner to just leave him as a cleaner for his whole life at the restaurant.

Came here to celebrate my sister’s birthday tonight, it would have been a wonderful dining experience if the manager is a bit more polite and nicer. Food wise and experience is not bad but seriously that guy needs to learn some manners! I called earlier to book the table and the guy who picked up the call hung up before I have a chance to say thank you.<br/><br/>When we were on our last dish (the rice), i politely came up to the manager and the waitress who were talking to each other and asked them to take out the cake that I have previously put behind the register to suprise my sister. To my surprise, the manager just said “ya ya ya someone will serve you later x 2” I haven’t even finish talking. I tried to explain what I wanted but he can’t even bother to listen! So I just went back to my seat. And then the waitress came up to me and ask me do u need all the candles on the cake? Well it’s not a problem if my sister wasn’t sitting next to me! So thank you Ginza for this “amazing” experience. Wouldn’t even bother to cone back or recommend it to a friend

me and my partner decided to treat our selves for our anniversary and go somewhere fancy. let me tell you, this place was AMAZING<br/><br/>had set 3 which including food such as prawns, salmon, chicken, sushi and more. there wasn't one thing that we didn't like! the chef we had was funny and very very skilled at what he does. By the end of the service there was rice all over the tables and floor from him playing games with us to "catch the rice in the bowl" so much laughs<br/><br/>waitresses were so attentive. also very sweet. they gave me and my partner a print out photo at the venue as an anniversary gift, very very sweet<br/><br/>Will be recommending to all my freinds and family who come here, thanks guys

First time experiencing teppanyaki and I must say it was a great experience.<br/>I like the fact that they have different sets with different pricing. The prices comes with the show! <br/>It’s a great place to go with a group of people as you all get to be part of the show. For example, catching an omelette with your mouth, catching the bowls and fried rice and they’ll pick a person who would like to be bombarded by egg omelette.<br/>Food was exceptionally tasty. Great quality.<br/>Staff were friendly and attentive. <br/>Take your lover, friends and family here for a great teppanyaki experience.
The Go Go Mumma
If you want interaction, games and flames with a side of food then make sure you add this to list of places to try in Melbourne!<br/><br/>For our 4 Year anniversary Ginza was our second option, as our first had a 2 and a half hour wait. Ain’t no bossy got time for that! Never having been to a Teppanyaki restaurant, I had no expectations. That said all I can say is Wow, Wow, wow. The food was amazing! I’m not a massive meat eater. However, their Beef was tender and succulent prawns were fresh and chicken was just as good... but seriously that Beef!! We dined from their set menus 1 and 2. <br/><br/>Our interaction with the other diners was a great spin to your normal dining experience and the interactive games run by the chef were not only entertaining but fun! Side note, you can’t hide everyone has to play.<br/><br/>Make Ginza a must for your next meal - A great venue for all ages. Guaranteed you will leave with full bellies and lasting memories.
Gavin Gusling
Excellent service and free food done right in front of you, get involved and play the egg and rice games, a great evening and worth the effort.
Ivivan
Great fun, amazing staff, food was delicious, the meat was truly exceptional! Chef was polite and good fun, waitress was attentive, We really enjoyed our experience here!
Cynthia957405
Great food and service!! <br/>The salmon sashimi and prawns are fresh. The beef is tasty and juicy as well. <br/>Thanks for the chief and his interesting games<br/>
Cleo
Paid extra $20 to upgrade to wagyu...<br/>But very disappoint.<br/>Totally not a wagyu, and taste like some kind of bad quality meat,smelly.<br/><br/>多花了$20升級成和牛<br/>但非常失望<br/>因為根本不到和牛等級的肉,而且吃起來還有一個臭味

We had a lot of fun with a group of friends and chef so much. Friendly staff and service. The restaurant was clean and good organise. Thanks!
Melissa Jane Rodger
We love this place we go every couple of months and it's always a good night. Great food and good atmosphere. Top quality meat abs and always walk away satisfied unlike other Teppanyaki restaurants we have been too.
Daniel Ridolfi
Had such a fun night here with two other friends. Food was great and staff were lovely. Our chef at the teppanyaki table was heaps of fun and we loved catching the food/bowls. Desserts were also super yummy!
Nancy.britto186
<br/>Booked a table for 11 (and paid a $100 deposit)at 8pm, weren't seated until 8.30. The set menu was extremely limited leaving our whole party still hungry. The food was average at best. The cake we brought was lost. Just an all round terrible experience.
Michelle Daniel
Just wandering down Chinatown & attracted by all the laughing, my interstate friend & I wandered in & had the best time ever....great food, atmosphere & chefs. We met lovely people at our table & I can't wait to go back. We had the $50 set - it was perfect.
Deana Cannatelli
We really enjoyed the atmosphere and food at Ginza! The food was cooked perfectly and depending on the set you get, there is a fair bit of food, which leaves you full by the end of the night! If you're going to get a cocktail, I would definitely recommend the strawberry daiquiri!<br/><br/>This being the first teppanyaki restaurant I've been too I didn't have much to compare it too, but they have three games they play with you during on section of dinner (catch the egg, catch the bowls and catch you rice). Overall a good first experience at teppanyaki 😄
Danielle Canna
Went to Ginza with a group of 7 for a girls dinner. 7 fit perfectly on the table. Anymore it may be squashy.<br/>Food was delicious. A bit pricey but we walked out of there full so it is worth it. We got the $69 banquet with a combo of seafood and meats. Everything was cooked really well and the food was really flavorsome. <br/>As for cocktails, I ordered the  ginza slipper (i think it was called) for $14. It was the tiniest drink ever. Opt for other cocktails...not worth the money. <br/>The chefs get your involved and play games with the food, unlike other teppanyaki restaurants. You will get food thrown on you so be prepared. It was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend this place. It's a fun dinner option for a big group.
Joffrey
Not authentic teppanyaki at all, restaurant is obviously run by Chinese instead of Japanese. Food was very average, and the games the chefs played with the guests ended up having a lot of food wastage. Not impressed at all! And on top of that, it was very pricey!
Stephanie Papazois
Had never been to teppanyaki before so I was very impressed with the overall dining experience. Every dish was absolutely outstanding.. I was so impressed with the chef, and the way he prepared the food in front of us. I enjoyed the set menu number 3, and was given a bib with a number 3 on it so the chef knew which teppanyaki belonged to who. Really enjoyed the dining experience, and the fun novelty games that we played on the table.
Justin Mohamed
Booked ahead for 7:30pm but had to wait until 8:10pm - service was very average, with them forgetting to give us our first course until reminded and drinks came out very slow. However the seafood and meat was high quality and the chef was very good. Quality of food and chef gets them a 2.5 as the rest of the experience was below par.
Jnj1970
Booked for 730 didn't get seated until 810, they forgot our miso soup until 1/2 way through meal - when I reminded them. Service was so poor, no one asked us if we wanted more drinks. You get served vegetables which is 90% bean sprouts - fried rice is ordinary and comes at the end once you have finished all your meat. On a positive note the chef was a very nice and the meat quality was good.
John
First time for teppanyaki. Birthday celebration. We covered set menu 1,2 and 3. Food was absolutely tasty. Eye fillet was well cooked. We all enjoyed the games and had a good laugh. Service was excellent. Only issue was that it was a bit rushed. Would have liked a bit more time.
Azim Din
Absolutely amazing teppanyaki dinner. Pricy but worth the money. The chefs had games to play w customers which made it more interesting. The company made it better. A recommendation to all those that love Japanese teppanyaki ! 👍🏼

I have a real soft spot for Ginza as it my first Teppanyaki experience a few years ago, but I've continued to go back every now and then without any disappointment.<br/><br/>I must admit the last two times we've had a chef who wasn't as engaging (and didn't speak as much English) as the first couple, but nonetheless the food - in particular, the eye fillet and miso soup - was beautiful and the waitresses are so nice and on the ball. Always a sucker for a place with Green Tea ice cream on the menu too!
Erin
As far as Tuesday nights in Melbourne go, you could do worse than order a 'Set 2' Teppanyaki and share amongst friends!<br/><br/>For the Teppanyaki chef there is nowhere to hide - you cook in front of the guests and the guests eat in front of you. Our chef on this night cooked up a storm - lamb, teriyaki chicken, bean sprouts, eggs, and eye fillet...all good and our skilful friend was very humble and very good company.<br/><br/>Good Japanese food is also about quality ingredients as well as cooking technique, and the standouts were the lamb and eye fillet (which was cooked to individual preference), and the games were also good value.<br/><br/>All in all, a bit of fun and some nice food cooked right before your eyes.
Ari Golonek
Very good food.<br/>Good service good fun. Went out for work Christmas party. Enjoyed every bit, especially the scallops. <br/>After we finished we were moved the second room where we had desert and drinks but looks like it was in the middle of renovation so the whole atmosphere died a little bit.<br/>Overall good place will come back.
Nelly
This is the first Teppanyaki with a kids menu that I have been to. That in itself appealing for us. But really our chef Mickey was the best we have had in a long while. <br/><br/>The food was good. Steak was cooked just as we asked. He explained everything even to our little girls who were his captivated audience. So much so our eldest insisted she say good bye properly before we left. <br/><br/>The service was also very attentive. Dessert was a little expensive and the fried rice could been a bit richer. But overall I left completely full and very happy.
David Lew
After disappointment with our usual teppanyaki haunt, we gave this place a go.<br/><br/>Service - fast and friendly<br/><br/>Chef - Mickey. Pleasant guy, interesting to talk to, fun and entertaining. After our previous place ignored our kids during the "entertainment bits", it was great to see special attention to our kids.<br/><br/>Food - very nice.<br/><br/>Pricing - not bad although desserts were a little expensive. Having said that, all in all we'd be happy to come back and receive this level of friendly service and good food for this price.

One night after walking around Chinatown and being indecisive about what to eat I remembered this teppanyaki place from the last time we were in Melbourne and decided to give it a try.<br/><br/>After choosing our set menus, I saw the table behind us participating in the food games that they do, I freaked out a little bit after seeing this.<br/><br/>All of our dishes were delicious and full of flavour. The lamb, chicken were good and then when she cooked our beef tenderloin and setting it on fire was the highlight of the night. <br/><br/>We were then asked if we wanted to participate I was hesitant with my answer and hoping that my partner would help me out! And it was an omelette too (I do not like eggs) and to my horror I caught the omelette pieces in my mouth twice then after that we both just kept getting hit in the face with it.<br/><br/>It was a great dinner and an experience that we’ll both remember :)

My first time experiencing Teppanyaki in Melbourne, very affordable, all the staff were very welcoming and entertaining but most of all the food was amazing!
Shana Lay
Came here with cousins, they've got great entertainment and games for everyone of all ages to enjoy. Also very nice and polite staff and the foods great!
Sophia Lay
My first time for teppanyaki and I must say, I had a great experience. Not only was the food delicious but the staffs were all so friendly. I would definitely recommend this place.
Michael Lay
a awesome place to eat, if you want an authentic Japanese experience. the chefs at Ginza really know how to put on a great show. very entertaining, loved ever minute of it. The food was awesome coz there was always something cooking.
Eric Leao
its very central and is in the hub of the city and has very refreshing variety food and friendly staff..a very authentic japanese experience and nice settings. the entertainment were provided by the chefs

Had a birthday party there on 22/11 with friends and relations. The food was if excellent quality and the services were of high standard as all requests were attended promptly to our satisfaction. Each one of us played the games provided by the chef with surprises. The feedback from all was positive including those tried teppanyaki for the first time.Peter

Probably the most fun I've had eating out in Melbourne! The chefs at Ginza really know how to put on a great show. We went as a group for a Birthday and they had costumes and free rounds of sake shots for all of us (regretted those in the morning). Aside from the chefs and great service, everyone really enjoyed the food. We went for set 5 and the highlights for me were the fresh oysters and scallops, finger licking good. <br/><br/>I noticed a couple of average reviews for these guys and really can't understand it, are whole groups been raving about it for days after. Definitely recommend.

Very affordable teppanyaki. You can get a lot with the set menu for $50. Considering you get entertainment with it. Its worth it I like how they entertain their customers with little games. It made my friends (who's first time trying Japanese food) enjoy eating other cultural meals. The steak, seafood and fried rice was very delicious.

I had visited this place along with my wife Prerna Issar Begwani during our visit to Melbourne. We ordered vegetable teppanyaki along with coffee and vegetable friend rice. Fried rice was quite good but Teppanyaki was simply amazing. This was my first Teppanyaki and we simply loved it. Food seemed to be freshly sourced and of very high quality. If I had time , I would have definately come again.<br/><br/>Staff was very courteous and humble. They made us feel welcome. Their were enough things going around to keep us entertained as well. Considering how costly food in Australia can get for Indians - I would definately say , at this place it was totally value for Money :)

The food was fantastic!  We want as a family group of sixteen people.  Two grandparents, four parents and eight children under ten years of age.  We laughed and laughed so much.  The children said that no meal would ever be as great as that one was.  It will go down in family legend of memories.  The staff were amazingly attentive and great with the children.  It was so great to see the expertise of the Chef and all the children want to cook just like him.  A great experience for all of us.

Really affordable teppanyaki. They put on a good show. Food is solid, however more about the entertainment factor. It is a bit more about you get what you pay for. Miami may be more expensive, however better quality food and overall experience. $25

This is the most expensive Japanese restaurant I've tried here in Melbourne!!! The food was not that very special, however, I really enjoyed that the food served were actually cooked in front of the guests, and there were games prepared for us.
Little Foodie
To expensive for what it is, the place is quite dirty, but the people are really nice, the food is good but nothing fantastic, if you want to have a dinner or lunch with family and friends you should go but if you love food maybe think twice :)

We were recommended by friends who came here and seeing the negative reviews we weren't sure what to expect but it was GREAT! Very entertaining with a fun and light hearted "show" there was A LOT of food and being a vego I had heaps of nice foods to enjoy! My partner and his parents tried set 1 and set 2 and all of them said the meat was melting in their mouths and the flavours were amazing! I recommend this place don't go off the bad reviews we had a really good experience! Only suggestion would be to update the decor!

I had my birthday here & I loved it. Everyone who came still say how good a night it was! They gave us all free sake shot on arrival and they catered for 20 of us. My chef was engaging & funny. His skills were great & the food was tasty. <br/>The prawns and beef were the best by far, loved the cocktails too, nice & strong! The waitresses were friendly & dressed in kimonos, there was probably one time were I had to ask for something twice but it was a Saturday night & busy so I get it! Also very hot in there from all the hot plates, I regretted wearing long sleeves. <br/>The games were fun & got everyone involved, I was sad when they stopped coz we were getting so into it haha.. Also nice that they took a group photo of us & gave me the photo to take home. Definitely will be back!

Cant agree with the previous comments. Have been there severeal times, both lunch and dinner. If my memory's correct, the $16 lunch set only allows you to choose one main course among four. Lunch is more simple compared to the dinner set menu, which has more games going on and more food as well. Apparently the groupon vouchers are at great value. Had one myself this evening, includes a bottle of wine as well. Fantastic food and games as usual.
Kimmy_desu
I agree with the previous feedback, going there for lunch using a voucher is unnecessary as they have set lunches at $16/$26 even as full price and they even have tea & coffee included. Regret buying it. The food is just average. Both the fish and chicken were drenched in teriyaki- should at least have some variation in flavor. Miso soup was from instant soup sachets, Ice cream just from supermarket. Can't imagine paying over $50 a head for dinner

Groupon is useless!. Went there for lunch over the weekend with Groupon voucher! Don't bother buying it from Groupon (miso soup, chicken, squid, rock ling fish and vanilla ice cream) which cost me $39 for 2 persons. They have set menu placed at the entrance with the same menu plus salmon fillet and extra tea and coffee for $16 per person!<br/><br/>Why would I pay nearly $20 per person from Groupon.. not happy!<br/><br/>The food is otherwise average, but not outstanding, chef has good manners.
Eve
...food portion sizes were rather small. However, you’re paying for the novelty and entertainment value rather than just the food.

As part of RNIS's Healthy Living month Note: RNIS went with Liven. RNIS bought the deal on Groupon Ginza Teppanyaki is in the heart of the city and its in Chinatown. Ginza Teppanyaki has been around for a while now but they have been opened just for dinner. I walked past this place several times but they always seem expensive. They also have some not so nice reviews on Urbanspoon. They had wanted to open for a weekday lunch for some time now and it is with this deal for $20 that I went in. The guys from Liven wanted to meet us and we had a lovely time with them. The meal was small for $20 but I didn't mind. In fact we are learning about healthy eating and portion sizes. To start off with there was miso soup and tea. It was real Japanese green tea with a bit of brown rice in there. I thought it was genmacha and it was. The miso soup was a little bit powdery. I love the way how the napkin is folded Ingredients for the teppanyaki Wines on offer The chef then explains the dipping sauces. W

Couldn't be better Deliciou.... Couldn't be better<br/>Delicious food, amazing service went for a birthday they dresses us up in a kimono and took a photo for us and developed onsite<br/>Can't wait to come back!!

Good fun restaurant.. The menu here starts with $45 per head, and the most expensive is $125 per head (excluding any drink). Everything is cooked in front of you on a very hot steel plate. The cook is not just a normal cook but also a performer. You will be able to enjoy some game during your time their. <br/><br/>I recommend you to take the $60 per head menu and to bring at least 4 friends with you. The more friends, the merrier when you participate in the food games.

Come for the entertainment, not for the food. If you are after a fun dining experience and are game enough to catch the flying crockery you are going to eat out of and catch food in your mouth, then this is the place to come.<br/>While it may not be for everyone, if you're in the right mood and in the right company, this can be a lot of fun!<br/><br/>The food here is ok, although the ingredients used are not the best quality. If you are after authentic teppanyaki food, you may be a little disappointed.<br/>It's not the worst food, but it's not the best either.<br/><br/>Most of the food is covered in some kind of salty, pre-manufactured sauce. While it is typical of many restaurants to do this, it's annoying, as you would think that for what you pay, the sauces should be made in house rather than come out of a bottle, which can be purchased in the supermarket.<br/><br/>I suppose you really just pay for the entertainment. <br/>You are seated around a large hot plate. Your cook for the evening arrives, introduces themselves, and begins the culinary acrobatics with chopping, sizzling and throwing. <br/><br/>Bring the kids (7 years +), family, friends, co-workers and you are sure to have fun. Come for the fun, not for the food. Thumbs up.

Very nice Tepanyaki. 21/5 - went on Groupon voucher, there were 8 of us going so we had a table for ourselves. Food was great, my steak was so tender. the vegetable dish was a bit on salty side for me but that's really nothing to worry about. Classic theatrical tepanyaki experience. we had fun dining here.
Johnnygu
Shoot me! Egg machine gun. We had a fantastic night and they made an extra dessert because it was my birthday! Really great night!!!
Foodfettish
Teppanyaki must try!. Only type of place where you'll appreciate food being thrown at you, was a great night of Food and entertainment, our chef was friendly and fun, cooking skills were great to watch And you'll be full even if You don't catch all the food in your mouth
Hungry Little Caterpillar
Fun night. Went to Ginza Teppanyaki on Saturday night with 9 friends and it was a very fun night. I find it to be value for money and All the meat was cooked beautifully and the service was great. My only complaint which is the same for every teppanyaki restaurant is that the rice is last - I would much rather end the night on some meat than a bowl of rice. But overall a very fun and entertaining night.
Lellett
Great fun for people who want a playful dining experience! Food was great and the staff quite friendly. I was terrible at catching the egg in my mouth but not bad with the bowl catching. Also very family friendly.

Long wait.Very little food.overpriced. Poor and dirty wasrooms. No disability washrooms or parent room. Asked the manager to change the baby in the office. He said no tables in there and locked. Forced to change my daughters nappy on a commode in the mens room. Managers Care factor 0!!! chef not very skilled. Was aishwasher 3 months ago. Student -pocket money.6 chairs for a 11 person booking in waiting room. excuse- busy. But bookings are essential. Manager an older man absolute rude and arrogant prick.
Mr Robert
It's fun. Had dinner there last week. Always excellent food (set menu is the best value). Entertaining and excellent value.
Sybil
Great food cooked by funny chef. Must try Prawn, scallop, chicken and MSA4+ eye filet. I really like it.
Jodestar
Best Teppanyaki ever. I've been there several times over the past 15 years and it is always great. The food is awesome especially the chicken and steak. Talented Teppanyaki chefs cook up a storm for you and if you get a good chef it is very entertaining. I initially thought it seemed a bit expensive but it is worth every cent for the food, fun, service etc. Can't wait to go back again soon. They are the benchmark for Teppanyaki for me!
Kieran Hattie
Thought the food was above averagejust. Enjoyed the show though

Worst place ever!! The pompous dousche that looked like the manager wouldn't let me even use the bathroom. Do yourself a favor and never go here -- from sounds of other reviews, customer service here is dead in its hole.
Yida
I loved it! friendly staff and a filling dinner! the experience was comedic!

We had made a booking for 16 people and paid a deposit to secure the table. When we got there 10 minutes early for our reservation they had already given our table away to another group. They sat us in the waiting area and told us our table was being cleaned, which was not true as we were seated after waiting more than an hour and fifteen minutes AFTER our reservation time. After speaking to the manager about why we had to wait so long and for any compensation, he could only reply with that it was our fault. Not exactly sure why?? I would not recommend this place due to the fact we were extremely organised for the night and the customer service was below par. However the food we finally got to eat was nice.

Terrible!. Hard to believe someone goes to the trouble of opening a restaurant when they obviously have no passion for food or hospitality or any care at all in what they offer to people. Tired, shabby, dirty surrounds. Bored and unskilled teppanyaki cook who seems to have nothing but contempt for the people he's serving. Over priced. I Was charged $42 dollars for what was easily the worst tempura vegetables and agadashi tofu I've ever eaten and I've eaten these dishes a lot over the years. This tempura vegetables consisted of two thick, raw in the middle chunks of sweet potato with an oily soggy batter, a big chunk of green capsicum and two small pieces of eggplant that was mainly tough skin. The fried rice - cooked on the grill - was basically white rice, some frozen peas, small pieces of carrot, drenched in what looked like the type of sweet soy sauce you buy home brand from Coles. <br/>I wish I had of read these other reviews before going, my sister who is from interstate booked it sight unseen because she wanted to give my niece the teppanyaki experience, had I have known it had so many terrible reviews I would have warned her off. <br/>Do yourself a favour and avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Empty stomach!. Went here earlier in the year with the family for the teppanyaki experience.<br/>seated with other people, the waiters were friendly but our chef wasn't really that excited he didn't really say too much. however it was interesting to watch food being cooked in front of you chopping away super quick. I didn't really like when they did a throwing food competition around the table where you had to catch the food with your mouth just found it messy!<br/>The price you pay you kinda expect a bit more food to be filling but I left still feeling hungry! but at least can say tried it out.

Very Poor Quality. This is probably the most appalling overpriced, poor quality meal I've ever had. Unable to leave as we had children that had to eat quickly as it was getting late. The service was extremely poor. The "food" fatty, unflavoured, very poorly presented and cheap cafeteria style. If you like wearing a bib, having plastic bowls thrown at you, eat bad food and pay $50 a head...go for it. Should be around $20 a head for that quality.

Worst Customer Service Ever. Made a booking for 7ppl, end up only 5ppl going as 2 decided not to go. Walk in the front door, place was deserted, thinking we will get better service as there was only our table and another table only.<br/><br/>Team decided to go for the set menu and try out the teppanyaki for the first time. Before we even get to decided what to order, the waitress ask if there are more ppl still to come. We said sorry "No" only "Us", in reply the waitress said (angrily). QUOTE: "Next time you better call to cofirm". This was extremely bad customer service.<br/><br/>We decide to let that fly as it was a friday afternoon. Proceeded to order and the first person decided to select "Set B", we ask if we can order different set meal, however we never got pass the first order for our first team member, as the waitress decided to continue her disrespect with us. The tone and body language told us that she does not want to do her job and do not want to serve us.<br/><br/>We told the waitress to give us 5min and come back and we will let her know what we want. We then walk out without hesitation.<br/><br/><br/>over all experience was bad and I would not recommend this to anyone to go here.

Rushed.... The chefs were just going through the motions, little interaction with guests. The wait staff were quite abrupt.
Lex
Yucky Teppanyaki. Not good. Bad quality food. One prawn, one piece of fish. Was just crap. No flavour. The Teppanyaki chef was boring, bad skills and not even Japanese. He said he's just a student earning a little extra pocket money!<br/><br/>If you are looking for good quality, entertaining Teppanyaki experience, don't go here.

Great function - thanks Ginza!. We had dinner last Sat Nov 12 - a family group of about 22 to celebrate my 11y.o daughter's confirmation party. We had a fabulous time- I think the best group dining experience I can remember. Never having been to a teppanyaki place before I was not sure what to expect about the food or the entertainment. On both fronts Ginza delivered- the food was very tasty and the basic banquet more than enough; service was great and the <br/>chef entertained young and old with his expertise. <br/>Our thoughtful host started our night on a high note by moving us into the function room due to a last minute increase in number from 17 people to 22. Thanks again Ginza - our video footage will bring us many laughs for years to come. Highly recommended, especially for groups - family or business.

Excellent experience. I took a group of students for a school excursion to Ginza, we had the lunch set A, which was more than enough. The food was of very high quality and delicious, I highly recommend the king prawns and the teriyaki chicken. <br/>The students said that it was the best excursion they had ever been on as the chefs played games with them and provided entertainment throughout the meal. The manager gave a discussion about the origin of the food and the rest of the staff provided great service. <br/>Compared to other teppanyaki places I have been to they provided value for money and a great authentic teppanyaki experience

I am not very good to compare the authenticity of the Japanese food. However, the taste was really good with nice favours and was served by smiling staff.

Great food and great atmosphere no complaints at all... Would go back again defiantly :)
