I was yesterday
Went here for dinner. We had no reservation for a table but the awesome friendly staff found a nice table next to the window. We ordered the tasting Thali menu and was very satisfied with the food. Ended the meal with the dessert tasting menu that contained 3 different desserts. With all this we had a bottle of green wine. This place is not the cheapest in Australia 🇦🇺 but the quality and service make it all worth it. Recommended for everyone!
Great service fantastic food. Everything i tasted was exceptional best Indian food I've ever had
Awesome food some of the best curry I have had.
Great service also
Amazing service and even better food! Best I’ve ever had.
Excellent curry, friend & I shared the chicken sagwaala which was delicious and ample for 2, with mozerella naan & rice. Hollywood cocktails were very nice - good enough to order a 2nd. Will definitely be back.
Great food even my 8year old wants to come back when we are in Melbourne next time
The food was awesome!!! I will definitely visit here again to have nice curry
Fabulous curries, great atmosphere, warm and friendly service. What more could you ask. Would certainly recommend to anybody in Melbourne. Absolutely delicious.
Food was lovellovely , serservice was attentive and prompt. Another favourite Indian restaurant!
Never had a bad meal here! My go-to place for curry in the CBD :)
Great food and generous servings! Will visit again.
Excellent food, excellent service..... we will visit again

Great food great service, nice atmosphere will visit again
Great taste! Awesome Indian food. Loved all the items we ordered. Definitely recommend everyone to try the Tandoori Chicken and Keema Naan!
Will come back for:
+ Mushroom Bhaji
+ Kashmiri Naan
+ Lamb Biryani
+ Tandoori chicken
Felt like some Indian food, so we popped by to curry vault in the city to try it out on the basis of pretty good reviews. We were not disappointed. I loved their naans, and mushroom bhaji (spicy, tasty and moorish), the lamb Biryani was generous and delicious and the tandoori chicken was super succulent and well spiced (this was part of their tandoori mixed platter; the tandoori lamb chop was sadly a little over done in this case). Service was exceptional and I got to give their front of house plenty of kudos for patiently explaining each dish and providing great care to us on the night. We also tried their chicken momo which was surprisingly good, but found it a little left of centre on the menu. Prices are reasonable for what you get and I’ll definitely be back for more!
Food was so delicious. Awesome service.
We had 4 pax Groupon weekday lunch, real bargain with $100 value to spend. We ordered Egg plant, Tandoori platter, chicken biryani & goat biryani, garlic and plain naan.
Food was delicious, portions were indeed large, and service was friendly.
Will certainly be back.
Edit - 15/10/19
Came back, this time brought family along for dinner last nite.
We had 2 Biryanis, lamb & chicken, 3 curries, fish chicken & goat, and 2 garlic naan.
We were in a rush as someone in our group has a prior appointment. The wait staff was most accomodating, our orders arrived quickly. And the waiter was kind enough to make some recommendations to our order.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food, finished every morsel.
Plan to come again, and again!

Fancied some Indian and this place had a good deal on EatClub. Started with the onion bhaji which came with a delicious dipping sauce. Next was the Nepalese dumplings (momo? I don’t remember their name and they don’t show up on the online menu). These were by far my favourite dish. They tasted so fresh and clean and had just the right amount of spice. I could easily eat 20 of these. Mains was the butter chicken with garlic naan. The butter chicken was very thick, almost like a paste (which I believe is the traditional way). Overall, a very nice meal. Would definitely be back for a heap of the Nepalese dumplings!
Staffs were polite. It is fine dinning and the quality of the food was great. It was more authentic and a cosy underground place in the city.
Had the butter chicken and it was really good. Liked that it was sweet and creamy. Service was good and the waitress was really nice and friendly!
Came here on a Friday night after work with an eat club deal handy.. we found that it wasn’t too busy but a few seats were occupied.. this place catered for mainly western guests from what we could tell.. we had the Goat Briyani, Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, mango lassi they also provided free papadam..
The briyani was delectable and you could taste the spices with every mouthful.. butter chicken was juicy and packed full of flavour.. the naan however wasn’t as thick as I am used to and this felt a bit more like roti..
The food wasn’t too different to other Indian places we had in the past but the prices were a bit more dearer.. a nice spot in the city for some Indian..
Curry Vault Indian Restaurant and Bar combines modern and traditional Indian cuisine to create an authentic dining experience.Dine at this modern Indian restaurant located in the historic Bank Place in the heart of Melbourne’s financial district.Come in and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and setting of Curry Vault, and experience some of the best indian food in Melbourne.
We came to Curry Vault recently predominantly as its in the entertainment book. I have been once before but it was literally seven years ago so frankly I’m impressed that they’re still standing in a world so fickle as the food industry.
The other reason we chose the venue as my cousin was visiting from interstate and she likes Indian food but is a bit snobby when it comes to decor, your traditional more basic Indian style restaurants wouldn’t have cut the mustard for her.
Unfortunately there were only three of us so we couldn’t engage in the banquet (minimum 4) but would probably take that up if I ever came back as it’s pretty good value considering how the bread and rice add up when you are a la carte. As for what we ate it was obviously butter chicken and it was quite yummy
Original review
This is a slightly more upmarket Indian restaurant where you can have a more refined evening but still enjoy traditional food. Ie no butchers paper tablecloths and neon lights in sight, but not the extreme opposite of deconstructed samosas either. Flavour wise the butter chicken is not one of the best I've had and I actually prefer the deliciously creamy malai kofta. The pricing reflects its laneway location. Worth checking out
Trust Timinmelbourne to find the best deals on EatClub, that comes with delicious food to boot. My partner and I met up with Tim and his partner for dinner here, and what a deceivingly filling meal this was. We shared amongst ourselves the Beef Madras, Butter Chicken, Goat Curry, Chicken Biryani, something Paneer (forgot its name!), and two naans - garlic and cheese.
Rich, creamy and piquant, all the curries were packed full of flavours. The Beef Madras and Goat Curry could be a tad spicier though, as both seemed to be at the same heat level as the milder Butter Chicken. The meats were all cooked to perfection -tender and succulent.
Don't be put off by the appearance of the paneer, it tasted great! A mellow and earthy curry that was very moreish. The paneer could be a bit more crumbly but that's a trivial issue.
The cheese naan was incredibly fluffy and soaked up the curries really well. A bit more gooey cheese within and it would be heaven! The garlic naan was somewhat thinner and crispier than the cheese naan, but tasty all the same.
Flawless chicken biryani that excel in execution and taste. Tender and fluffy distinct grains of rice, with such a vibrant colour and beautiful aroma.
The service was impeccable, and we were looked after so well. Plates were changed before the main course arrived and this was a very nice touch. Beautiful service and beautiful food!
Yummm Yumm Yummm enough said hahahaha
Well not really! This was my recommendation and it was a winner yay!!! The service was excellent and the curries wow!! All amazing.
I went w my partner and Hello. Imnikki and her partner. We all shared some butter chicken, goat curry which was good but for me the little bones were a problem. Just me.
The beef madras was delicious, chicken briyani yummy, the garlic naan bread was amazing and the garlic naan were all just sooo good!! In fact everything was soo good, unfortunately I’m not doing it justice.
The spinach and cheese dish was good too but I can’t remember it’s name. Can anyone help me? Please hahaha
The kingfisher beer was great and this was a great night. The food was reasonably priced and this place is definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful curry and a fantastic menu! Lots to choose from and were all very delicious with great portions, the naan was also fresh which makes all the difference! A friend ordered the eggplant and potato dish. Generous servings and tasty meal overall. Will definitely visit again.
Had the mango lassi, mushroom biriyani, and butter chicken. A friend ordered the eggplant and potato dish. Generous servings and tasty meal overall. Will definitely visit again. I don't have much experience with Indian food, but this one is really good and special. The lamb vindaloo and garlic naan are nice and matched. The vindaloo is a bit salty for me though. Nice cozy restaurant with very quick and attentive service so highly recommend.
Was great they helped me organize the night and kept in touch all week we had the banquet and was great I font think any of us finished it all Friend ordered the eggplant and potato dish. Generous servings and tasty meal overall. Will definitely visit again. Nice cozy restaurant with very quick and attentive service so highly recommend.
Really enjoyed dinner here tonight. We had the chicken momos, eggplant masala and chicken tikka masala. All of the dishes were not too rich but had a lot of flavor. The staff were really sweet as well.
Good food great service. Interestingly Asian staff though. Price is reasonable. Great selection of dishes. Starters are good quality and serving
Beautiful curry and a fantastic menu! Lots to choose from and was all very delicious with great portions, the naan was also fresh which makes all the difference! Loved the complementary papadums on the table too! Also great cocktails
Had the mango lassi, mushroom biriyani and butter chicken. Friend ordered the eggplant and potato dish. Generous servings and tasty meal overall. Will definitely visit again.
Organised for 22 of us to have dinner at curry vault. Was great they helped me organise the night and kept in touch all week .. we had the banquet and was great I font think any of us finished it all
We were craving (well me) some late night Indian and this was in closest proximity. We were forewarned that they had some alcohol licensing issues, that was fine. We were served with papadums while we browsed through the menu, the curries here are slightly on the more expensive side comparatively to other Indian restaurants. Curries and naans was the plan, we blindly chose the pepper chicken and to our suprise it was a Chinese dish (perhaps Nepalese), a stir fry which on its own was nice but did not mesh with the entire meal.
We also got beef madras, lamb korma, palak paneer and butter chicken. Mostly mild curries and those that were of medium heat weren't as spicy as we'd expect, nevertheless the flavours hit the right notes. The naan was heavily coated in garlic butter but I found that they were a bit on the thinner side than we were used to. We also got some tandoori chicken to share which the spice can be played down with the accompanying yoghurt.
Overall good spot for some Indian and we didn't end up spending that much despite the price. I still wonder about that pepper chicken because that was pretty random! It was mixed in with all the other curry dishes on the menu and I can't seem to find it online.
Located in the heart of the CBD, Curry Vault is that reliable Indian restaurant you want to return to time and time again. That place which satisfies your curry cravings without breaking the bank.
Run by passionate owner Kailash, the restaurant is situated off Collins Street in the picturesque Bank Place in the CBD and has been serving patrons since 2006. The menu specialises in Indian cuisine, made from fresh produce.
This restaurant neither disappoints or wows, all in all a pretty safe choice. It's disappointing that Zomato no longer has 0.5 point scores hence I will leave this as a generous 4/5.
The service was attentive and the dishes came out promptly.Â
Most dishes including the naan bread, Chicken Malasa, and Lamb Vindaloo was slightly above average. Portions were overall slightly on the small side. Avoid the King Prawn Tikka (can't remember the name exactly) for $25.90 as it is horrendously overpriced.
I don't have much experience with Indian food, but this one is really good and special. The lamb vindaloo and garlic naan are nice and matched. The vindaloo is a bit salty for me though. The mango lassi is great. I also like the cookie and sauce they serve before the meal. Very friendly and thoughtful service, all plates are heated so they keep the food warm.
Popped in here for dinner with a coupke of friends.
We really enjoyed the beef vindaloo which was spicy but delicious along with the chicken tikka massala, prawn malai , raita & garlic roti saffron rice this was a fantastic treat.
Along with a couple of savvy b's we had a very enjoyable evening. .
Nice cosy restaurant with very quick and
attentive service so highly recommend.
Very tasty Indian that wasn’t too heavy. Authentic and varied menu. Service was friendly and attentive. Off on a side street and down a little but worth the extra walk there. Would recommend!

I have never been or heard of Curry Vault until I was looking to order food on Foodora.
Thought I would give it a try and the food was delicious.
I order the Lamb cutlets, Special chilli Chicken and Goat biryani. Very generous portions. The goat biryani had a lot more meat than the places I have ordered from. Worth trying their food.
Curry vault is always consistent in the quality and varied flavours in its food. The ambience is quiet and peaceful and the perfect place to go with friends and family to catch up.
Came here using the entertainment book voucher. Bang on Indian flavours and amazing taste! Ordered varieties of curries and each of them had a distinctive flavour. Definitely visiting again.

Yes Curry Vault serves some really delicious food and wine!
Went there for a mates birthday and ordered a few curries, rice, naan, rotis, wine and kebabs. Each of those items were great!
The food options, drink options and service all deserve a special mention. The staff are very friendly and provide great service.
My only issue with this place was the decor and pricing. The decor is a bit dated and lacks the wow factor and authenticity. I also found the food to be extremely pricey for the quantity served.
Ordered a 3 course meal with Mulgitawny soup (spicy), Malai Kofta (supposed to be mild but was medium spicy) and Kulfi for desert. Soup was good and the main course was ok other than the unusual spiciness. I think it's important to not blindly go by the menu mention, but also confirm with the person taking tour order how would you like your food. Over all the food was better than the first impression I formed after seeing the decor and location .. So decent fare.
Curry Vault absolutely kills it! The best spicy vindaloo I've had in Australia. Completely professional place, with fantastic service and a great wine list. The prices are fantastic for a white tablecloth dinner that you could use for a special occasion. Their use of spices across all their dishes is perfect, everything I've had here has been great. They also know how to correctly crank up the spice upon request, which many places struggle with. If you're a spice hound, go here and request extra spicy. This place is an unsung hero of CBD dining.
Not a fan of Indian food but this place's butter chicken is the the most flavourful Indian curry chicken rice I ever eaten. Tried it for the first time and loved it. Highly recommended! Can't wait to be back.
Faultless. I know this because all seven of our dining party attempted to find an issue and failed miserably. We had a variety of dishes including palak paneer, lamb Rogan Josh and beef vindaloo. The lamb Rogan Josh was so tender it fell apart in your mouth, while the beef vindaloo was tasty while being spicy without losing its overall flavour.
Service was very prompt and efficient with staff going above and beyond what they're employed to do. We attempted to bring a pram down the flight of stairs into the restaurant, the waiter swiftly grabbed the other end and carried it down himself and when the eleven month old baby began had finished eating he was given a toy to keep and play with.
Seating was roomy and quiet which is something rarely seen in the city. It allowed for the conversation within our group to actually be heard and allowed us all to sit comfortablly without encroaching on strangers space.
Overall, a fantastic restaurant, will be returning soon.
Very good mixed plate and excellent lamb saag. Service was friendly and attentive. The garlic naan was very good. Nice atmosphere. I recommend this quality Indian in the Melbourne cbd
Amazing Veg Biriyani would love to come again. Nice ambience and very well maintained. Clean and Tasty. The location is odd for a very good restaurant
Went here on a second date, found it through the high ranking on Zomato, thought why not, I'll give it a shot. So after searching for a short while, we stumble upon the place (keep your eyes peeled, it doesn't really stick out) and headed on downstairs.
First impressions, were largely positive we were promptly greeted by the wait staff and were safely guided to our cozy little corner. After a quick scan of the menu we got our faves, onion bahji, pulak paneer and another and some garlic naan, of course. The service was swift and we were treated to all of our courses within 10 minutes, the wait staff were very accommodating and kept the smiles coming. The onion bhaji was a true delight with a BBQ-style sauce, the "another one" had a nice level of spice and the eggplant really filled me up. The pulak required a little more punch (not spice, but like in a flavor sense, you know?) for our palettes, but we were still happy, like the wait staff. Â
Cost like $50 but thats cool
My only objection here was the ambience. Super-bright lights (although you can see the clean!) and lack of music (although you can eavesdrop on your neighbours!) were the downsides. Upside was very very tasty and tender lamb korma, and light, crispy garlic naan. Mmmmm....
DO: The butter chicken, lamb segwala (apologies for spelling), beef vindaloo and garlic naan.
DON'T: Forget the mango drink, its refreshing and cuts through the heat. I also wasn't a fan of the prawn curry however the whole table loved it, so give it a go regardless... might be just me.
TIP: The place is a little hard to find. However it's down a lane way and downstairs - look for the red fixtures outside. It also takes bookings - woo hoo.
A superb Indian restaurant in the happening Bank Place in Melbourne. Right from the time you descend the stairs you know you are in for a night you won't forget. The curries - delectable; service - second to none.
A great Indian restaurant in the Melbourne CBD, a little hidden downstairs off Bank St. We had a selection of appetisers, the Goa Fish Curry and the Lamb Madras. Excellent Curries in the opinions of both diners - one of us just a curry lover and one a very, very experienced curry chef himself!
Apart from a small glitch delaying our mains the service was excellent and I would certainly return for more curries in the future. It would be great to come with a bigger group to enable more curries to be tasted - there are some great ones on the menu!
Looking for a great indian curry in the heart of Melbourne? Look no further than Curry Vault. Located in a quaint laneway in the CBD this restaurant has an ambience perfect for dates and family gatherings. The service was great and food served with a smile.
The lassi was heavenly. We ordered a tandoori mushroom appetizer which was heavenly. We then followed it with a chicken and fish main dish with a side of garlic naan. The naan was cooked to perfection and the chicken and fish dishes were creamy and rich in flavour. We finished the night with some gulab jamun and kulfi. The dessert was so good we wanted to have a quiet nap in the corner to recover from the lovely night and amazing food.
Overall a great restaurant with perfect food and lovely service.
I was so pleased with the food and service here. I am on a paleo diet and they accommodated my every need. No dairy, no gluten and minimal oil. The curries were delicious! Thank you :)
One of the best curries I've had in Melbourne. They catered for someone who likes spicy food and a newcomer to Indian food. Good service, friendly owner. Happy to recommend and will be going back.
Hmmmm I love a good curry and a good hot curry is even better some days! Curry Vault is down a little cobbled street just off the main drag of Collins and on a cold, wet night we scarpered past a good looking local pub and down into the lovely Curry Vault. It’s a nice space, not to fancy, not to unfancy… just right! Service is polite and friendly and the curry was thoroughly enjoyable.
This place is awesome, best lamb rogan josh in Melbourne. The owner and staff are friendly too, every time i come here its a great experience. Garlic Naan is on point too!
Little pots of flavour and texture. There's a lot more curry than the small looking serves suggest. By the time we get through it we have to loosen the belt. Tasty dishes, good value for money, friendly and fast service, this place continues to be a favourite for lunches and dinners.
Really excellent curry! We had all the classics (butter chicken, lamb Rogan Josh, beef Madras, tandoori meats) and they were all executed flawlessly. Good selection of drinks at reasonable prices and really great naan to go with your meal.
The curry Vault.. Definitely has heaps of curries j mean there would have been at least 30 different types of curry dishes with either prawn, chicken, beef or fish. The plates are pretty small for $20 each but are pretty tasty and filling like most Indian dishes. I had the cheese naan was was pretty tasty and not flooded with cheese like I thought. Overall pretty good and I'd defs go back when I'm craving curry :)
Welcomed to a pleasant setting. Prompt service anf tasty samosas followed by spicy and excellent curries. The naan was light and also excellent
Friendly service with delicious and authentic food, portions are a good size but price could probably be lowered a bit! Overall a good experience
Really good food, quick service. Butter chicken beautiful, Lamb vindaloo spicy.
Great location, quiet but no issue with a slightly tipsy crew
Was highly impressed by curry vault and will be back. The wait staff are delightful and I am not used to being treated so kindly at a restaurant. The food portions exceeded my expectations, with plenty of chicken in my curry. It suited my vegetarian guest perfectly and even provided whole meal roti for the health conscious amongst my group. Definitely check this place out, the owner is lovely as well!!!
I am a semi-regular and the staff are always friendly and the food is consistently cooked well. They happily accommodate our spiciness tolerance and cater for any dietary requirements as well. The portions may look smallish when served in the traditional brass bowls but they actually fit a lot in it. Curry Vault is also centrally located in the CBD and is a great place to meet up. The curries are yummy and their wine & beer list is extensive and very reasonably priced. Great food & wine that doesn't cost you a mint, what more do you want?
Me and my partner went there for dinner yesterday Night. The restaurant was fully packed. We were welcomed from the bar area and given a table to sit. We ordered Onion Bhaji for starter, Chicken korma, Lamb Vindaloo, Rice for 2 and a garlic naan for main. Kingfisher for me and a glass of red for my partner. Food was wonderful. It had real indian flavours.
Reasonably priced. Would definitely come back.
Good curry and service.. This place was good. Nice curry washed down with a Kingfisher and the service friendly. Worth the price.
Good food. I went down to Curry Vault with friend who is very fussy about her food. It was a bit of a hike to get to from where our office is but it was worth the trip and given we had a few things to talk about it was enjoyable trip. I was very nervous taking her there as it was our first trip to an Indian Restaurant and I did not want to disappoint her.
The place is situated in a laneway and you get the aroma of spices as you walk down the stairs. We had a reservation and were greeted by a friendly waiter and given a nice cosy table to sit at. We were served papadum and yogurt which was nice. I picked a rice dish - Chicken Biryani and she picked lamb dish (Lamb roganjosh)....with garlic naan. The food came out fairly quick and was well presented and looked delicious and fresh.
The lamb was tender and juicy and had the right amount of spice just to our liking. The rice dish was really good and flavoursome. We managed to finish the dish in no time and had nothing left on our plates at all. My friend really loved it and she rated it as the second best Indian Restaurant she has been to. MInd you, her best was apparently cooked by an executive Indian Chef she was friends with. I prefer to share a meal with someone I am close with and it was great to be able to do at this restuarant as opposed to eating individual dishes.
I walked back to the office a pleased man.......
The chicken was slow-cooked tender, and the sauce rich, creamy, and flavoured with pungent mustard seeds and curry leaves. I knew i shouldn’t have, but I finished up my entire serve of Basmati Rice ($3.9pp) scooping up the dregs of the sauce.
Think I found the best curry in Victoria. Thought I would try this place for a take away while staying in Melbourne on a business trip
Hope pleasantly surprised I was, I purely picked this place due to its proximity to the hotel, and wow was a chance find
The food was superbly cooked full of flavour and quality incrediants, chicken dansak and chicken biriyani were great
Staff very friendly and polite - I will happily take clients and family to this restaurant
Can do nothing but highly recommend
Wonderful ! I can't fault it. The best indian restaurant in melbourne city, hands down. It's great value considering the service, classy atmosphere, and beautiful dishes. I keep coming back because it never disappoints... very highly recommended.
Visited the Curry Vault with friends visiting from the United States after they had a craving for Indian on a Friday night. On first impression, the restaurant had a cute little feel about it and we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated, however this wasn't a drama.
The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. Drinks came out fairly quick, and we were able to order the banquet for 3 for a small extra surcharge even though the banquet stated a minimum of 4.
The food was awesome, fresh, and there was plenty to go around. Courses were served in a very time efficient manner and fit well in with us when we finished each course.
I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. The only reason why I deducted a star was that the wait staff never asked us if we wanted more drinks after the first round. They could have made more money out of us because of this, however they let themselves down because we didn't order more due to this.
Overall, I would recommend the Curry Vault to anyone looking for an Indian establishment in the Melbourne CBD.
Great service, great food. We experienced friendly and prompt service. Food came quickly, although we were there pretty early, 6pm. Food tasted great and large but not massive serving size. Huge selection of wines.
Above average. The service was quite good, the ambience was a bit on the Spartan side. The food was reasonable, but not worth the price tag attached. I'd go there again, but it wouldn't be a preference.
