Laksa bar is always so packed whenever I passed by so I had to drop by and try it myself. Decent service and interior. Chicken Curry Laksa was delicious! Curry based soup with noodles, fried chicken, tofu, egg, herbs and spices! A huge portion even though I got small size and flavour was rich and savory with right level of spice. Highly recommend a visit :)
The soft shell crab curry laksa is unique in Melbourne and absolutely delicious and satisfying. The other laksa varieties are also good, but once I tasted that soft shell crab there was no going back!

Ordered from EatClub $5 deal. Laksa is quite decent size, not sure is regular or small but enough for me eat two meals. Ordered chicken laksa, surprisingly it’s actually fried chicken, normally come with poached chicken at lot other places. By the time I got home chicken is not crispy but meat is very tender, think it will be lot better if eat there. It also came with tofu, fish cake and fish ball. Quite like the taste of the soup, but a bit salty. It’s a place I’m happy go back and try other stuffs.
The soft shell crab from the entree menu is really good and worth your 9$. Dishes are good value for your money. Had the Laksa Mee Goreng and it was a large serving for one. Plenty of noodles, bean sprouts and chicken 👍

I went this place for 5years now and taste still great . Staff are kind as well. But te maintenance getting worse . Stain on the walls, cups, tables and even spoons.. Make restaurant looks unhygienic place . I sure they can fix it easily. If they want to .

Pretty decent laksa for Melbourne standard (cause I’m Malaysian, nothing compares to the laksa there). Tho I did find the soup rather heavy on the coconut milk. Overall, wouldn’t mind coming back.
Ordered the nasi beef rendang, came on a Monday night - service was quite slow and staggered for the three dishes despite the place not being very busy. Also not the best that cutlery and water is self service given that the waitress was just standing still most of the time.
The food, however was awesome. The portions are generous for the price, the beef rendang was beautifully creamy and the meat was tender. Coconut rice with fried egg felt standard.
The crispy chicken wontons had a distinct crunch and wonton flavouring, but the taste of chicken mince was hard to distinguish. Combining it with siracha sauce works well to add a small kick.
I didn’t have the curry laksa fish, but I heard that it was very creamy and filling, and the fish fillet was great (only thing is that it wasn’t very crispy and it was a bit awkward to eat).
Definitely will be returning to this small, humble restaurant tucked away behind the busy-ness of Russell Street.

It was a pleasant experience to dine at Laksa Bar.
The Black laksa was tasty but if you are after something more spicy i dont think the place is the one for those that really like spicy food.
We asked for sambal and it wasn't as spicy as sambal should be, it was rather sweet.
However, i definitely recommend this place and you will be seeing my friends and I really soon.
The smell was really good but I don’t know why but it just wasn’t my style (?) The chicken was worth it though. We order Chicken rendang and Chicken laksa and the chicken in both was really good and unique. The laksa smells good but towards the end it didn’t taste as good anymore. The soft shell crab was okay. There have been so many new Malaysian restaurants opening recently we almost forgot about Laksa bar! Luckily it popped up on Zomato while I was looking for food in the city the other night. We had the chicken ribs for entree and the special Thai Laksa with chicken and the classic Malaysian Laksa with soft shell crab. The soft shell crab laksa was as good as I remember it to be. But my favourite for the night was definitely the special Thai laksa. The broth was sweet and sour and a little tangy, almost like a tom yum soup. The noodles were thick round rice noodles which had a different texture to the usual vermicelli and mee in Malaysian laksa. The flavours were balanced very well and it was an interesting twist to the traditional laksa. The only thing that they could improve on is to start offering table service. At the moment you have to order at the counter and grab your own cutlery.

Soft Shell Crab Laksa 4/5 - if you enjoy the coconut rich type laksa then Laksa Bar is definitely your go to. I ordered medium level spice and I think I couldve went for a hotter one, as there was just a hint of heat to it. That being said, the curry laksa was flavorful but not overly powering, making it enjoyable to the last bite. Always enjoy vermicelli with egg noodle combination, though I feel like I couldve used a touch more egg noodles. The laksa came with perhaps 2 slices of fish cake, 1 fish ball, 1 tofu puff, 2 pieces bok choi, and a few fried dough crisps, which I definitely appreciated as I love how they can soak up the soup base. The soft shell crab, being the highlight, was a bit disappointing to me. The legs were a bit over fried and so gave a rubbery texture to it, making it not soft. However, the body of the crab was fried nicely and was packed with juice and flavour. Overall would come back for this dish, but perhaps not the soft shell crab version. A little more on the pricier side compared to competitors.
Chicken curry laksa 4/5 - although this dish I only had a bite, I am scoring 4/5 for the chicken and assume that the laksa base would be the same as the soft shell crab one. Chicken was well seasoned and fried quite nicely. Juicy on the inside as well but overall frying was a little inconsistent as some pieces again were harder than others. I did prefer the chicken over the soft shell crab. Perhaps I should stick to seafood next time!
We got some veggie spring rolls along with a bowl of laksa each . I found the broth really tasty here, and one of the better ones I've had (with the spice level being much less in your face than other places). The only downside was that I found the soft shell crab to have a bit too much batter or something as the fried taste of it was quite strong).
This place gets pretty packed during lunch. Ordered the soy bean milk and thought it'd come in a cup, but came in a bowl instead! Was surprised but not complaining. For food, we ordered the soft shell crab laksa, chicken laksa, and nasi lemak. The laksa soup was really nice, but the soft shell crab was coated with too much batter, felt a bit sick after eating a couple pieces.
So many choices of laksa and variety of other dishes. It was not too overpowering but still really flavoursome. Satay skewers were really nice as well. Would recommend coming earlier as they do not take bookings for less than 4.
Best laksa I’ve had in the city. I had the House laksa with chicken and it was cooked to perfection. The chicken was extremely tender and I loved that it had both the think noodle and vermicelli.
Will definitely be returning!
I had the Chicken House Curry Laksa, spicy. It wasn't that spicy for me, but I have a high tolerance for heat. It was nice and rich, though! It had a combination of vermicelli and yellow noodles, but I prefer my Laksa with thick noodles. Perfect for winter; will try other varieties next time!

✔️Soft shell crab curry laksa: I love their crabs here, they give quite a generous serving. Though I only like to eat the crab legs because the body can have a strong taste which may be appetising to some. The fish balls and fish cake also seemed to have a strong sea/fishy taste which I chose to avoid eating. The tofu and crispy fried wonton skins are nice though! The curry laksa broth is thick with sandy texture and tastes quite different to the traditional Malaysian curry laksa. It's worth a try!
⭕Vegetarian Thai laksa: This to me, tastes like normal tomyum noodle soup with added toppings. It's average, but not bad. Would definitely prefer the soft shell crab laksa.

It's a self service restaurant, so you will be expected to collect your own cutlery and table water. Staff are friendly and nice. Restaurant is simple, casual and clean. It's in a central location, perfect for happy friendly catchups over a meal!
A must-try simply for the unique soft shell crab laksa! Don’t bother trying anything else without first trying the laksa. Super delicious and tasty - there’s nothing like it. 😋 The chicken is not bad too for sharing!

Best Asian laksa in the Melbourne CBD. A good amount of tofu and quality noodles. Fast lunch that is a good fit for a winter lunch in the city.
This was our spot for a dinner meetup to reminisce some Malaysian memories. We got a place immediately and there was a nice calm ambience at the place. Sets you in the mood for a good meal.
We got ourselves the chicken curry laksa and no tweaks as we were dying to try laksa out! This was more of a west Malaysian laksa with fried boneless chicken, bean curd, egg and slightly sweet, but a very flavorful broth which was everything about the laksa!
Very good and friendly service, very satisfying experience and I'd recommend this to anyone! 👌
I enjoyed my laksa here! A bowl of thick curry gravy-soup topped with an exquisitely fried fish fillet, very light batter and very fresh fish. The only (relatively minor) thing I would change is the bee hoon/rice vermicelli, they served the thin kind whereas I prefer the large and thick kind. It’s a different sauce to what most other places serve, in taste and texture, but it has a great flavour.
This is my second time at Laksa Bar, last time I ordered the soft shell crab laksa and it was a solid 4/5. For the quality and quantity it is defs worth, only if they have better customer service then it would've been a 5/5.
This time I ordered the bbq & sesame chicken on rice which was average. The chicken was neither dry or moist, sauce was not too flavourful, and only thing would be the rice which was a little too mushy.

Talk about flavorful!!! Thick, soupy quality laksa! To the critics who say too fatty or rich.. they have a dailed down skinny laksa. You get what you order, don't blame the restuarant if you select off the menu incorrectly. The menu is not limiting, for a restaurant who specializes in laksa, it has a great range of dishes. Can't wait for my next visit. Ive been thinking about going back all week!! Recommend to try the special thai laksa.. mouth watering as we speak.
I had Char kway teow last night and it was the nicest fried flat rice noodle dish that ive maybe ever had! So good. Will definitely be coming back to try the laksa.
The southern Malaysian style of thicker curry makes a delightfully rich flavour of the Laksa here, doing my review now after three trips here - the soft shell crab Laksa is a winner. Kudos to the guys running this place, it's all about the food and the quality of it.
Had a lunch with a regular diner and took some guidance on choices. Great food on a single theme with varied ingredients. Chose soft shell crab laksa. Spicy, multiple textures, diverse flavours & a long over the head bib to keep my shirt free of splatter. Vibrant space, efficient, pleasant staff. I ordered the seafood Laksa. Didn't taste to heavy and had lots of fab flavours. Noodles and seafood was cooked well and it looked and smelt amazing. Size was decent and was full of ingredients, overall it was delicious. My friends ordered the fish Laksa and the other ordered chicken Laksa which looked amazing. I will need to come back to try them another day.

I went here with my friends and we really enjoyed the food! We all ordered one laksa each and shared spring rolls. There are chicken, tofu, fish cake, crab meat, fried egg, bok choy, tomato and 2 types of noodle!!! And I'm sure there is coconut water in the soup. Overall a satisfying meal indeed!

I'm a huge fan of laksa and I accept that there are multiple variations out there. There aren't many places in Melbourne which serve authentic Malaysian laksa and this includes Laksa Bar.
However, Laksa Bar's chicken laksa is pretty impressive though. The broth, while not authentic, has its own special bold character and I really enjoyed the playful balance between sweet, salty and spicy. No laksa should have pieces of tomato and buk choy in it but at Laksa Bar, it seems to work okay. There was a generous amount of delicious savoury chicken in the laksa.
I love the atmosphere in store and the projected black and white Malay movies (with English subtitles) on one of their walls is truly unique and endearing. (Zomato, please don't delete my photo of the movie on the wall!). Service was warm and friendly.
So while the laksa here is no where near the real thing, its own version is surprisingly good and satisfying.
Used to come here all the time for lunch when I was working in the city! Miss this place a lot and try to visit when I am in the city. Love their laksas and they had a white laksa for a non-spicy version. Super delicious!
Absolutely delicious laksa!! My husband and I absolutely loved it. We had the Soft Shell Crab laksa, and the Chicken laksa. Both were amazing - I particularly loved the chicken- the meat was great quality, and the skin was gooooood. We also had the Laksa Mee Goreng- such tasty noodles with a real flavour kick! And the crispy chicken wontons, which were so moreish we were arguing over them!! We chatted with the owner who is absolutely lovely, and all the other staff were pleasant and helpful too. Highly recommended!!
Really nice laksa plus some other Malaysian dishes. I like the fact that they offer skinny option (low fat milk and less noodles) for the more health conscious.
It gets really busy, packed with office workers during lunch hours so make sure you come a little earlier, unless you don't mind sharing tables with others.

Ordered the chicken laksa. The soup base is aromatic, robust and flavoursome with the spice levels which can be adjusted. Generous amount of semi crispy chicken which is slighlty sweet. Noodles are soft and chewy for the fish cake and balls.
Springrolls are okay, slightly cold inside and soft. The skin is crispy.

I visited laksa bar with a few friends to grab some lunch.
The interior is small and cozy, the bathroom being the most interesting, having a shoe rack filled with shoes, a vacuum, fan and salon looking mirror... very interesting however it doesn’t bother me.
The service was really good, the food arrived promptly within 10 minutes of ordering. Laksa bar also provides bibs for those who are messy eaters which i find very accommodating!
I chose the curry laksa with the skinny broth to try a lower calorie option. Overall it was slightly blander and a little less creamy, however i’m so happy they cater to those looking for a lighter option despite eating out! The soft shell crab was delicious, especially with the soup of the laksa, i definitely recommend, as well as the seafood curry laksa which is generously packed with seafood!
Overall, i would return as laksa bar has many accommodating features and their food comes at a very reasonable price of around $15-$17 per bowl! Thank you for having us.

3.5⭐️. We continue our hunt for a laksa place that rivals our favourite so here we are. 🍜🍲We arrived super early so the restaurant was rather empty. There were other things on the menu but you obviously should order laksa at the laksa bar. Highlights: the steaming bowl of noodles came out super fast. There were more thin noodles than the thick ones (woohoo!) The soft shell crab were good (but mainly batter?) and the spices in the soup was a bit more fishy than what we were used to but still great! Lowlights: the crispy bits on top became soggy very quickly so make sure you eat yours super fast.
Oh wow, as a snobesque Malaysian living in Melbourne I often complain about how no laksa is comparable to Melakan laksa, but boy Laksa Bar has taken the order and is ready with some receipts!
Deliciously herb’d and seasoned broth and well cooked noodles, reminiscent of the perfect laksa served in my high school canteen! With some embellishments from my original fave is manner of a giant slab of fish, fishballs and fishcakes galore.
Also had a side of the soft shell crab entree and fantastic teh tarik.
Going to be a regular for sure!

Love their soft shell crab laksa & teh tarik. Laksa is very authentic with rice coconut flavour. The soft shell crab is huge. Very filling & I couldn’t finish the whole thing myself.

Ambience : 3.5/5. Busy eatery with basic setting and simple decorations.
Food : 4/5. Ordered the soft shell crab laksa. It was yummy, rich in flavour and appetising. Full of ingredients. The only setback was the broth was too potent.
Service : 3.5/5. Service was average. With an hour lunch break, you would expect your laksa to be delivered quick. But it wasn’t the case. Our food arrived only after 25 minutes of waiting.

I’ve been going here since it was just opened. The price has gone up quite a bit and the portion has gotten smaller, but it’s still the best laksa in Melbourne.
Me and my friends always order the soft shell crab house laksa, the crab is hot and crispy, eat it first before it gets soggy in the soup. Soup is thick and full of flavour. I’d very much get a small bowl of this than a big watery bowl of soup elsewhere.

We have always passed Laksa Bar and wondered why it was always so packed and now we know why!
Laksa - a Malaysian delicacy which includes a curry based soup with noodles, fish balls, fish cakes, herbs and spices... you get the picture! We had tried the soft shell crab laksa, fried chicken laksa and Thai laksa and all of them did not disappoint! A balance between richness and savoriness, laksa Bar has done well with how they have delivered this - level of spiciness is adjustable depending on preference and the broth is consistently tasty with its herbs and spices! My personal favorite was the Thai laksa with its tangy curry giving it that sour kick but yet not overpowering with sourness!
Nasi lemak merah - when in a malaysian restaurant, you need to at least try their nasi lemak! Essentially coconut nut rice with a spicy sauced chicken (sweet sambal), this will give your tastebuds an experience you will never forget! Be warned of its spiciness but it will be good challenge for this who want to take this on! Again, rich with herby flavors, this was one dish I’ll never forget!
Overall, Laksa Bar has consistently delivered yummy food and we would be happy to visit again!

🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆: what better way to end a perfect Melbourne trip with a perfect Malaysian feast @laksabar 🇲🇾 those who know me, generally know that I don’t normally go for Laksa, however if there is a huge-as crab in it, I’m wanna get my chopsticks into it 🥢 the soup base was light and beautiful curry taste, I literally kept going in for more and more, the crab was fried perfectly and seriously this is the dish that keeps on giving as there are so many lovely ingredients hidden all throughout 🦀 the ribs was my favourite appetiser of the night, a Zomato top dish and I can see why, the chicken is coated in a very delish seasoning and super crunchy 🐔 at first go, I dipped the wontons into the sriracha sauce provided, little did I know that the wonton itself did not require any sauce, as the marinated chicken mince inside has a punchy garlic and soy flavour resting on a seabed of crunchy fresh vegetables 🥟 the nasi lemak is their OG dish, and a great variation from the original, where the sambal was sweet and the papadum was tasty! 🍚 the mee goreng had a generous serving with twice-cooked Maryland chicken which was so so delicious 🍜 lastly the blended African black ice tea was refreshing and complimented all the dishes so well 🍹 if you’re looking for a casual local joint perfect to bring your family, friends or loved one with speedy service, then this is the perfect place for you!

Tried the signature soft shell crab Laksa on my last day in Melb. It's great. The vermicelle they use is a combination of thin and thick noodle. I only had the thick noodle in Thailand once. It's terrific. Probably will order the thick noodle next time.
Back to the laksa itself. They put lots of ingredients inside. The soup is good and the crab is crispy. Like the lychee cider. recommend it.

A 7 year old, somewhat of a cult laksa restaurant tucked in the small side alleys of Little Lonsdale Street, Laksa Bar is a cheap and convenient getaway for a late night catch up with friends especially for some warm soup in the middle of winter, or even a casual yet authentically South East Asian lunch spot for Melbourne city workers.
I came to claim my free EatClub meal - their chicken laksa. It turned out to a massive portion with a variety of ingredients and I’m no laksa expert but it tasted amazing to me. It was also just spicy enough so it was flavourful but not so much that I couldn’t eat it. Service was great throughout as well.
I ordered the chicken laksa. The chicken was fried first before combined with laksa, which I actually like. Broth also nice and full with flavor. We sit at table where we can see stacked bowls (with dry noodles and half egg) , proportioned for each laksa (not quite a good sight, we just make a joke about it). I can recommend to try for laksa if you never been to this place.
