Review Paris Go Bistro - Melbourne

A very well set up French restaurant, loving waiting staff who were more than happy to answer questions in regards to wine/food, quality was just amazing. Not over done just simple quality ingredients matched beautifully, would recommend the barramundi & scallops . Was cooked to perfection. The bread was fresh, soups were delicious. A must try for French food in Melbourne Moderately priced & well presented

Nice ambiance staff are attentive and the food is rich in flavour. The traditional steak and pommes, the cassoulet and many more. This is what french cuisine is about this place should be on list for authentic French cuisine. If you like this review please like and share.

Always the perfect place to go for a special occasion. The ambience, service and food - magnifique!

While other snub French restaurants were selling only "cook at home" frozen packs with ridiculous price, Paris Go Bistro was one of the few restaurants actually offered "cooked" French cuisine with reasonable price that I could take away. My partner was having his b'day 2nd time under lockdown, I wanted to prepare French Feast in the park for him and Paris Go Bistro helped me to realise this plan! Food was amazing, everything was perfect!!

Had a really nice meal here with a group of friends. The staff were very accommodating and attentive. The menu was well presented and the ingredients fresh. We had a wide variety of dishes and enjoyed each of them.

Classic French fare with classic French service. Service was fantastic, with a great sense of humour and very accommodating. The staff were very happy to make recommendations and made the night very enjoyable. The food was superb, matched perfectly with the atmosphere.

A lovely French restaurant that exceeded my expectations for my first time trying French cuisine. The seafood was fantastic and our waiter was very attentive and friendly; and ensured that our wine was never empty. Definitely going to be returning.

Very nice vibe. Tables are far away enough from each other to give you some privacy. The food was great. But the cocktail choices were very limited. Overall, I recommend this place.
Rodney Sipthorp
Excellent. Extensive menu and great service. Our three course meal was delicious. You also have the option to byo.

My friend and I dined here last night and the food was amazing, we loved it. An intimate restaurant, the waitress was great, knew her stuff, although we had to ask for water refills. A bit of a turn off was that in between our main and dessert the waitress obviously ducked out for a cigarette as she came back stinking like cigarette smoke, which is a big turn off for me. Especially in this wonderful restaurant. Otherwise I would most definitely recommend this restaurant and we are looking forward to coming back.
Sigrid de Castella
Probably not the best meal I've had there, but the company was completely fabulous. The food is very Parisienne and I love their BYO policy. We'll definitely be back.

Great food and wonderful service on Friday at lunch time. Definitely going back.

Absolutely gorgeous food and service. Will definitely be going back.

Lovely food, good service. Very reliable. This is our go-to places for three generations of family birthdays.

Nice food! Price is reasonable!

Great void, wonderful service, a fabulous French dining experience. Have been here before and loved it, so will be back again.

Paris Go is one of our favourite restaurants. We have been several times and always love it. Great service and the best steaks.

Delectable. Authentic. Romantic.

What a treat! Came here for my partner’s birthday and we loved everything. For starters we had escargot and red onion camembert tart. The escargot were out of the shell which we didn’t mind because there was a pool of garlic butter! Would have liked some bread to soak up the goodness. The tart was well balanced with sweet and savoury. For mains I had the veal which was cooked to perfection and my partner had the minute steak which he loved. For dessert we had the lemon tart and creme brûlée which was huge! Hit the spot for me!<br/>Service was great, loved the decor of the place. Really reminded me of Paris.

I found looking directly at this poster over dinner very uncomfortable. In today’s world, are women expected to put up with this - either customers or staff? The Follies are a Paris Institution but this representation of them surely belongs to a bygone era.

A sweet restaurant in Carlton that you cannot miss! Serving delicious french cuisines at a great price. The staff were lovely and engaging.<br/>Must have dish would be the steak and creme brulee for dessert.<br/>The lobster bisque was also amazing especially on a cold night.<br/>I would definitely be back for more!

Great service and food. Have a wonderful dinner here. We ordered the bisque, fish, chicken, pudding and crepe brulee. All tasted very authentically French. Highly recommended!

I went for my birthday last wed and it was great. The food was very tasty and the ‘authentic’ French waitresses were terrific. I have several children and the staff were great with them. The place was packed and my ten year old said most customers were ‘old and posh!’ Fair call there was one gent in a white skivvy.. but it all added to the vibe of the place. We had a mixture of meals - steak, duck, seafood and vegetarian, and everyone was happy. I saw several Uber eats guys arrive and they were told in a very French way to ‘wait outside!’ I loved this joint, it’s old school but surely that’s why you go.

As locals that have been to the restaurant many times we were really disappointed last Friday to be sat at a table adjacent to the bar and had our meal interrupted by at least 6 food delivery guys swinging around big backpacks and helmets. Its a very expensive meal to be dealing with that and we wont be returning.<br/><br/>My advice would be to Paris Go that they remove the table or the takeaway option and to patrons to be specific about where you want your table to be - otherwise save your money and go and eat Pizza on Lygon Street.
Lina's Music House
A nice, cosy and romantic place for special occasions.<br/><br/>The food was amazing and full of flavour. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming.<br/><br/>Great French food, beautiful ambience and great location close to CBD.<br/><br/>Highly recommend! Plan your next date night here and indulge in some of the best French dishes in Melbourne.<br/>

Absolutely delicious and great service! Great place to go for a special lunch or dinner. Everything we ordered was perfectly cooked with wonderful flavour

I love this place. It’s been on Rathdowne since the 90s and not much has changed but the food is consistently good. Not cool, just good. The plate presentation is pretty daggy but the taste is always great. Not cheap but compared to other French bistros it’s affordable. Also love the BYO of wine.

Great food and excellent service! Super happy. Prices are prob on par with the restaurants in the city. Tables were a bit small which was the only downside.

Hands down, Paris Go is my favourite French restaurant in the whole of Melbourne! It ticks all the boxes. The ambience has a very cosy feel. Classical whites with walls donned with large art decor posters overlooking Rathdowne Street. In the menu times I've been there, the service has been fantastic - French hospitality sans the arrogance.  <br/><br/>Food-wise, they have a very good menu selection, especially with cold and warm entrees. In French cuisine, I could happily just order all entrees! My all time favourites are - mussels, rabbit terrine, pate, and cured trout. I could just rinse and repeat. For the mains, I've always settled for the classical steak tartare. And for all that, they are very reasonably priced too.

Went for dinner as a celebration. There is a great formal but neighbourhoodly ambience, and staff are friendly. The food was beautiful - we ordered steaks and they were delicious, especially the indulgence sauces that accompanied them! We had creek brûlée’s for dessert, which had the perfect crack and smooth creamy custard. Loved it!

Celebrated my friend’s birthday here in a small group of 3- can’t find fault with the service and food.<br/><br/>There was a list of plat du Jour to choose from apart from the very complete menu, and the wine list was excellent in both glass and bottle choices.<br/><br/>We had three entree to share as we all wanted to try as many dish as we could. We had the onion soup, oysters (mixed) and mussels in champagne. Everything was delicious but the standout to me was the mussels - the sauce was delicious.<br/><br/>For main, I had the seafood of the day and received a wonderful selection of prawn, shellfish, and fish. Delicious!<br/><br/>Dessert was of course needless to say fantastic. Their Crème Brule was excellent<br/><br/>Highly recommended place but be prepared for small tables (tight space) offset by beautiful food and excellent service.

BYO with $13 corkage. That’s all that needs to be said! Actually a lot more could be said which will follow shortly, but next time I go, will be bringing champagne, white, red and Sauternes! Apologies for my half eaten duck... it was really delicious and I couldn't wait to dig in.<br/><br/>Service was a bit slow; they only had one waiter at 7pm, and was very busy on a Monday night. Perhaps they were aiming for the authentic French service experience as well... Once the second waiter turned up, things really picked up. They had a number of traditional French dishes on the menu, as well as some specials. The servings were generous. <br/><br/>We started with a dozen oysters and they were very salty and fresh. The accompanying vinaigrette was just perfect. We had 4 entrees. Soup of the day (a leek vegetable number), sardines, charcuterie plate and the duck terrine. Could have ordered one less, but the duck terrine was a special and very delicious. The charcuterie plate was wonderful; I was considering ordering this or the trout / terrine / pate combo. Turns out this came with rilette and pate anyway; it's definitely too much for one person! The sardines were delicious as well.<br/><br/>Onto the mains; the table ordered two steaks and two ducks. I always order duck; this came with a serving of breast and a drumstick. The steak came with a very generous serving of fries and cooked perfectly. Even though it came with your choice of sauce, it was really not needed for the meat. The duck was delicious; the flavours of the sauce was quite subtle and didn't overwhelm the duck which was flavourful. <br/><br/>Didn't order dessert - we were really getting quite full by this stage but we peeked at the neighbours dessert and will be back for the creme brûlée.<br/><br/>This is definitely on my highly recommended list, the BYO makes it a much more affordable option then similar restaurants. One star off for the slow service at the start.

We can always count on Paris Go to offer authentic french food. My partner ordered the sardines for entree and also the steak frites for main. Both were generous portions. I ordered the steak tartare for entree and red snapper with an assortment of seafood in broth and both were fantastic. Service was also attentive and very friendly. Can't wait to come back soon

Good honest French food. Classic dishes done well. The truffle omelette was the standard dish. Great value with the Entertainment book discount.

Classic & romantic with a contemporary twist. Kinda like<br/>a Gainsbourg song. An old-school bistro that puts a smile on your face thanks<br/>to the incredible staff who are as warming as the mushroom and snails entrée -<br/>what a dish! The oysters are a must to accompany a nice glass of bubbles. Their<br/>take on ravioli was creamy and hearty, yet silky smooth and the two beef dishes<br/>were simply perfected on the grill. To finish; a tart & creme brulee that<br/>were authentic, rich and devoured with a smooth glass of Armagnac to match.<br/>Even the shoestring fries were addictive - we returned the following evening<br/>for a cheeky serving to take out. If you've a nice bottle from home, BYO is<br/>available - how cool's that! If you do bring one, it's always nice to buy one<br/>from their list too – some cracking wines at reasonable prices. There's so much<br/>to be said about a place such as Paris Go - quintessentially French while<br/>fitting in with Melbournians’ style of dining. Head to Carlton and be<br/>transported to France for a couple hours. We’ll be returning soon to inquisitively<br/>explore that impressive menu. Thank you
Peter Damien
This restaurant is OK but overpriced. Staff were friendly but not to the standard where you are paying $80+ a head. We started with the smoked trout and prawn bisque. The bisque wasn't  quite to my taste being much too strong flavoured. The trout was good, but so it should be at $20 a plate.<br/>Our mains were barramundi with scallops. The scallops were delicious but the barramundi was pretty ordinary. It was seated on a bed of green beans, which were undercooked. Very disappointing at $40 for a main<br/>We finished with creme brulee, which again was pretty good, but I left Paris go, feeling that I had paid too much for what they served. There are many other restaurants in Melbourne where you get much better food for that price.<br/>Won't rush back

Went to dinner with 3 friends on a Thursday night. A cute place on the famous Rathdowne St, Carlton. As we walked in we were greeted by a polite French waiter that offered us the menus and drinks to start with. Ambience is friendly and relax, clean starched white table cloth on each table. A basket of warm sliced baguette and butter served after we placed our orders. For entree I had the snails (it’s a French restaurant after all, if anyone can cook it they can). My friends had the cured ocean trout, ravioli and mussels (I will have to try this one next time, it looked amazing!). My snails were served on a big mushroom with butter and garlic sauce and a sprinkle of parsley. The snails were so tender, the garlic complements the earthy mushroom and snails.<br/>For main I had the special dish for the day. It was a rack of veal with crusted herb, served on a bed of creamy truffle mash. They didn’t give a steak knife, but the Veal was so tender it seems that I don’t need one. I can eat a bucket of the creamy truffle mash on my own. The whole dish was Delish! My friends had the fried fish and steak. We also ordered aside of salad and pommes frites.<br/>For dessert we had the Creme brûlée and lemon tarts. They were also delish! The freshness of the lemon finish the meal perfectly. Will definitely go there again. <br/>

Was once a great place but with arrogant waiter and lower proportions of food and not to mention lower quality has made this place a no go zone now

Well it’s definitely been a while, so we’re sorry it’s taken this long to write up another post. With work, study and all these other side projects, we have been busy bees! Anyway, you all should know by know how much I LOVE French cuisine. So of course I had to write up on yet another French restaurant we recently came across.<br/><br/>Paris Go is located amongst other great restaurants on Rathdowne Street, Carlton. However the high ratings and reviews on Zomato did make this restaurant stand out just a tad so we had to check it out. <br/><br/>Upon entering, you see white tablecloths, white wooden banisters and white walls. The walls however are complemented with artfully, colourful framed French posters, paintings and mirrors which I kind of wanted for our house. A mixture of wooden chairs and French velvet button chairs are scattered throughout the restaurant.<br/><br/>Now right here, I have to say how super friendly and fantastic the staff were. From the moment we arrived until we left, they were nothing but attentive, switched on, accommodating and friendly. Kudos to them for providing such awesome customer service throughout our experience.<br/><br/>But of course onto the important part: the food. We started off with my favourite, oysters! They were served three ways: natural, baked in cheese, and natural with a yummy green, possibly garlic type sauce. They were fresh and delicious! We then ordered the King George whiting dumpling in a prawn sauce which was something we’ve never had before and was very interesting! They were fluffy and the sauce was full of prawn flavour. We also couldn’t say no to the steak tartare which had a special dash of cognac. The flavours of this steak tartare was perfect. Sometimes you come across steak tartare which are more on the plain side. However this one was packed with flavours without it being too flavoured, if that makes sense! Our final entree was the fresh steamed southern Tasmanian mussels in a champagne sauce and oh my gosh, these were also super fresh and flavoured really well too. We were impressed. So far so good!<br/><br/>Ok so you’re probably wondering, how can we possibly fit in mains after ordering FOUR entrees? Because we decided to share everything we decided to only order one main in addition to the four entrees. This ended up being the 250g eye fillet with bearnaise sauce and the staff were very lovely to split the steak in half and serve it on two individual plates so that we got our own steak and sauce. It also came with french fries which we shared. The steak was cooked rare, just how we liked it and the bearnaise sauce was really nice. Oh and we also ordered a lovely bottle of French red to go with the food: Cotes Du Rhone, 2012.<br/><br/>Although we were pretty full, we couldn’t help but have a peek at the dessert menu. Being a total sucker for lemon type desserts, I quickly zeroed in on the caramelised lemon tart so it was settled pretty quickly. The tart had just the right amount of tang with dollop of cream. We gobbled that up quite efficiently too.<br/><br/>Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for some traditional French food. Lots of ticks to great food and fantastic service!<br/><br/>-  H

Really yummy and hearty food, cosy atmosphere and good wine. Amusingly arrogant French staff. A good place to go for a special occasion. I'd go again.

Food quality, cooking, service & value for money is what I want from a restaurant. Paris Go delivered on all counts! Some of the best French dishes I have eaten with no skimping on portion sizes. No hesitation in returning and recommending. Thank you Chef and staff for a memorable dining experience!

The place was okay stepped back in time, a little bit too old school reminded me of the food in the 80s. Service was good but the place needed a facelift.
Alice C
Enjoyed my fish which was one of the specials for main course. We shared the entrees and we all enjoyed those, a good selection of dishes on the menu and a nice atmosphere. Great friendly staff. Parking was not easy. However the food and ambience was great.
High Expectations
I have been coming to this place for a number of years now and it has never disappointed me. This is French food at its best. Tonight I had snails entree and shared a truffle omelette followed by the chicken special which was crispy chicken breast with prawn sauce and truffle mashed potato. Our guests really enjoyed this place too. A must go to restaurant and they do BYO too.

Had a so-so dining experience here recently, found one of the waiters to be quite rude. This line from Cristina Nehring of WSJ sums up our experience with this classic French waiter "...In their eyes, I felt, I was forever doing something wrong..." Found this to be true when we only ordered 1 entree (Escargot), 2 mains (Lamb Fillet & Entrecote de boeuf) and fresh Melbourne tap water. "Only 1 entree ? No Champagne? Any drinks? " His colleague was much more welcoming to us.<br/><br/>Thinking back, apart from the arrogance manner of the first waiter, service was actually quite prompt. Dishes were cleared almost immediately after our last bite and I appreciate that they never hovered over our table every 5 minutes to ask "how's everything?" I have learned that the perceived rudeness may be due to differences in cultural perceptions and expectations. Apparently French waiters speak in a brief manner because they are not there to be your friend and aim to be highly efficient. <br/><br/>On the food: best part of our escargot entree was the mushroom. My medium-rare porterhouse steak with mushroom sauce was cooked to perfection but I felt it was no different than one cooked with a George Foreman grill. Lamb Fillet was one of the specials of the day and it was the best dish of the night for us. A basket of complimentary french fries came later but it was soggy.<br/><br/>Our night ended on an awkward note when we went to pay the bill. The first waiter remarked "No dessert? What a shame" in what sounded like a condescending tone. He handed me the eftpos machine and told me to key in my tips and proceed. I chose not to tip, and the screen flashed error. The annoyed waiter snatched the device back, pressed some keys, and handed to me again. Luckily it worked this time. I wouldn't have mind tipping if we were given Melbourne hospitality.

Went to a local favorite. The food is superb. Really French but not too formal. Took a French exchange student who really enjoyed their meal<br/>Unfortunately, the service was terrible. A very young pretentious waiter served us all night. <br/>It was very disappointing, as he really spoilt the night. We didn't want to spoil the night by saying anything to him. However, he really spoilt the night. Our French person, commented at the end of the evening, 'He was very rude as a waiter'<br/>We won't be back any time soon

This is a lovely French restaurant in Carlton.<br/><br/>We had the French Onion Soup and Leek Tart to start, both of which were nice. For mains, we had the Confit Duck and the Porterhouse Steak. The duck was absolutely lovely and the steak was fine, however, it lacked seasoning and therefore a bit of flavour. For dessert, we had Crème Brûlée and Profiteroles; both were delicious.<br/><br/>Service was always with a smile and we were not rushed nor left waiting for anything. However, we would recommend the restaurant ensures that no-one smokes out the back, as the smoke was unpleasant when going to and from the restrooms. <br/><br/>Paris Go was a tad pricey at $80 per head (including coffee but excluding wine) but for 4 courses not terribly so.

Authentic French restaurant in Carlton.. Great menu, absolutely loved their French fries, quail and escargot! Glad that I came and will be back to try more..
Andrew
To begin with we had a reservation for 8.15 arrived at 8.20 to be told that it would be a 10 minute wait until we could be seated, until then we could sit outside in a 7-9 degree temp. The food was ok besides my 'export quality' eye fillet steak. It was tough, dry and flavourless. My girlfriends lamb was definitely the winner. Also the bread was much like a supermarket bought baguette, I thought the French were supposed to pride themselves on their bread? I'm sorry but I was not impressed maybe they just had an off night..?
Kev
On Tuesday night, me and my partner decide to have something nice and we choose Paris Go, She ordered duck breast amd confit with fig and i choose coq au vin. Wow, both of dishes are really hit the mark, according to her, this is one of the best duck dish ever, the flavours combination was awesome. For dessert we choosed fig pudding with ice cream, this is like sticky date on steroids, simple wholesome and satisfying. Highly recommended this place

I can't help but feel like I am in France when I come here. I am a vegetarian and the chef catered for my needs while still keeping the authentic French flavours and experience. The waiters and waitresses clearly know how to wait on tables-unimposing and in a very authentic French way. I love coming here and enjoying a wine, champagne and delicious food. Would recommend to anyone. Ines, Tibaute and Nora are such wonderful waiters and they welcome me with smiles and a genuine nature every time. Thanks Paris Go, my French home, away from France.

We dined with a group on Saturday night. The clientele was generally middle aged but there was a table of 30 something's celebrating a birthday. <br/>The staff were very attentive and the service good (not intrusive) and appropriate. The good was good. Rich but not too rich and serving sizes were good. Sometimes you leave French restaurants still hungry....but not this one. We had pate / rustic pate / sardines / fish dumplings for entree - everyone was happy with these. For mains we had rack of veal, coq au vin, rack of lamb and beef bourgeon. Everyone cleaned their plates. Sides of seasonal vegetable and pomme frites were great.<br/>We paid about $100 per head with drinks.<br/>A great night out. This place is great for groups or a romantic night out.
Jake
Small little restaurant in Carlton. The food was quite tasty and had no complaints about the food. However it took over an hour for the meals to come out on a very quiet night, so the kitchen couldn't have been under any pressure. Plus cannot justify the very high prices for the small main course I received. Overall food tasty, but extremely slow to receive and in my opinion, quite overpriced for what I received!
Chris Turner
A pretty little restaurant that seemed to promise a lot but didn't follow through.<br/><br/>Our entrees, onion soup and mussels with a champagne sauce, were both very good  indeed. Our mains, though, were a very long way from living up to the standard you'd expect for these prices. I had the cassoulet. It was remarkably bland and needed salt (and I as good as never use the stuff). On top of that, the beans were under-cooked and the meats seemed like something from the bottom of the fridge. The chicken even looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. My partner had the beef bourguignon. The meat was dried out and tasteless, while the sauce was just ordinary.<br/><br/>As friendly and professional as the waitress was, a restaurant charging these prices (a smidgen under $200 for two, including wine but no desserts) should have more wait staff to look after diners.

Where was Julian?????. We consider Paris Go to be our favourite French restaurant. We have had numerous delicious meals at this restaurant. Last night was no exception food wise but the service was sub-standard. Where was Julian?? He is one of the main reasons this restaurant works so well. He's funny & very personable. The waiting staff last night were not rude as such but certainly not what we were used to. We were kept waiting as soon as we sat down. We had to leave our table to ask for champagne glasses & to order a soft drink. A number of special menu items were no longer being served! My husband is usually a very generous tipper but last night he didn't tip which the waiting staff were openly not happy about. We will be checking Julian is working next time we make a booking.

Delicious. A deliciously Gallic setting with a range of interesting dishes served by attentive and friendly staff. From the delicious Poisson du jour, a choice of eye fillets and other steaks, and an extensive range of interesting specials available, the diversity of our large group was amply catered for on all levels. The staff were particularly accommodating of our boisterous toddler, we'd love to come back again soon.
Hide And Seek
Step inside and you’ll find a relaxed Parisian vibe with white linen tablecloths, large vintage murals on the walls and waiters in sharp uniforms. The menu focuses on traditional provincial meals and offers a full range of pâtés, terrines and tartares alongside the obligatory escargot. If that seems a little daunting they also offer entrecote de boeuf (porterhouse steak) and goujons de poisson au tartare (fish and chips). The wine list is not huge, but it features a good selection of local and French wines with a particular nod towards Burgundy. With friendly staff, a casual atmosphere and a kitchen that French cuisine aficionados regularly name check, this little Carlton restaurant is definitely worth a visit. 116 Rathdowne St, Carlton VIC 3053 (o3) 9347 7507 www.parisgo.com.au Tags: CARLTON , FRENCH , french bistro , MELBOURNE , Paris Go , Splurge Comments are closed. The food is good, honest and fresh, prepared in a timeless French style, served without pretension or arrogance. There’s a wide selection of traditional dishes on the à la carte menu, and it has a varied wine list.

...don’t have much to say about this meal, not because I didn’t enjoy our dinner, but more because everything was just so solid (which, in this case, is a good thing). While it may not have been the most exciting or inventive food, the dishes were all well prepared and met expectations. I mean, I don’t go to a little French bistrot expecting to be dazzled by the modern flavour combinations or fancy culinary tricks. All I want are the standard French classics – all that lovely comfort food that leaves me feeling warm and satisfied. And on that, Paris Go certainly delivered.
Libby Margo
...what Paris Go does, it does well and that is serving genuine old school French favourites in a relaxed, homely environment.

Outstanding food and service as always!!

Great food, service, decor. Very generous servings!! I'll be back!

Excellent bistro. I hadnt been here for many years. Had a very competently prepared dinner recently. Menu not super modern, but well executed. Had some quenelles in prawn bisque that were very good, and a lovely lamb fillet dish. Generous serves. Very wine friendly. A reasonably authentic French Bistro experience - does what it says on the tin. Good value.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! WE DID NOT EVEN EAT THERE AFTER HAVING TO WAIT FOR 1 HOUR EVEN WITH ADVANCED BOOKING!. Me and my friend went there today and I already book a table for 4 the day before at 8pm. We walked in just to be told that our table was not ready yet, although we walked in at 8:10pm. We were happy to wait because we were told that the table should be ready in around 10-15 minutes. The waitress told us to sit at the table outside to wait and have some water. She was not friendly at all, like she could not be bothered to serve us! ABSOLUTELY NO SMILE! We were sitting there for more than half an hour without being informed anything about our table. Me and my friends were extremely hungry and started to get upset. We went in and asked them what happened. We were only told that "Oh, we sorry but there is nothing we can do. We did not expect the previous customers of your table to take this long". My friend starts to get frustrated. We were told (AGAIN) that our table would be ready in 10 more minutes! The waiter even tell us "That's why I asked you if you guys want to eat outside instead of waiting". Of course we do not want to eat outside in the wind and cold, and we booked for a table inside!<br/>If you cannot guarantee a table then do not let us book online at all! <br/>At the 15 minutes mark, no one even comes out from the restaurant to apologise or inform us that it would be a bit longer. A men, seems to be the manager/owner, came out and said "Oh please just wait outside, I'll bring you something out". Then he walked into the kitchen again and left us standing there. We were so upset that we would not want to wait anymore, we just walked straight out of that restaurant and went down a block and found another restaurant to eat at. <br/>I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! HORRENDOUS SERVICE!

Our second visit and we loved it as much as the first. Service excellent. One of the few places where you.can byo. Garfish entree exceptionally good as was pate. Mains very good all round . Profiteroles were disappointingly hard but still scoffed them down! We will be back!

Absolute rubbish, don't waste your time!!!. Having been to Paris Go years ago I was surprised to see the several reviewers who had negative experiences, especially with the service quality. Unfortunately the previous reviewers were on the money!!!! We booked well in advance for a party of 4 on a Saturday, receiving written booking confirmation. The restaurant "lost" our booking, and despite us providing written confirmation refused to honour the booking. Having worked in hospitality I know mistakes are made and often unavoidable, but the way our guests were treated was quite intolerable. They were literally shooed onto the freezing Melbourne street and told to wait outside, despite the restaurant being at fault. The restaurant refused to explain what happened, did not apologise, and I was rudely told that the manager had not put our booking "in the book" (which is really not the patrons problem! We had a written confirmation email!), and that I could email him on Monday to discuss it. All in all, will certainly never be going back. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Melbourne, don't waste your time with this one!!!!!!

Dinner for five. We had a lovely dinner here this evening. Highlights for the table included the mussels in champagne sauce, the confit duck in port and red currant sauce, citron tart, crepes suzette and the charcuterie plate. Overall all dishes were enjoyable with service to match. Staff were friendly and very accommodating when one of our party had to leave suddenly. A lovely evening had by all.

Great restaurant. Years since I've been here not sure why. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Boudin blanc was juicy and soft with a great skin, ejoyed the cassolet as did Sue enjoy her leek tart and her ravioli. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. I will be back a bit sooner next time.
Bramroebuck
Best creme brulee and they go out of their way to help you. I have eaten there before and loved every dish (snails for entree and the most tender and beautifully cooked fish for a main - Special) The most memorable moment only happened a few days ago. It was my birthday and we wanted to go out for dinner but the kids are at the age that it’s a nightmare so take away was our best option. <br/>My husband asked for some creme brulee as a take away but at first they said it was not possible as its served in ramkin dishes. Then Gabriel the chef has an idea to put them in shortcrust pastries and they tasted amazing. The best creme brulee I have ever had. I was really touched that they went out of their way to help us.

I love it more with every visit. Great staff and excellent food. Once you try it you'll be back again.

This is our second visit to this great restaurant to celebrate two birthdays and a daughter heading overseas. Great food and very friendly service. A great night.

Won't be returning. I have been meaning to try this restaurant for years, and took the opportunity to book it since Libertine has now closed down to celebrate my husband's birthday, as it was in the Entertainment Book. As a foodie, I rate the food as only ok; entrees (excellent french onion soup, snails) were better than the mains (slightly overcooked duck, small rabbit portion, slightly undercooked french fries). Unfortunately, the waiter was rude rude rude to my husband. Even allowing for sarcastic Parisien humour, my husband was really annoyed by the time we left. Also, the wrong amount was taken off in relation to the Entertainment Card discount (overcharged us by $10) which I didn't realise until we got home and I checked the offer again. Not impressed and won't be returning.

Always good. We've now been a few times and found this to be consistently good. Very tasty, cosy atmosphere, and the eye fillet with bernaise sauce and fries mouth watering. The staff are very professional and overall a really nice French bistro experience.

It's A Goer. I have been here on my birthday a few times so they must be doing something right. I usually go for the garlic snails, eye fillet with bearnaise, lovely fries, followed by the tarte au citron or crepe suzette if they have it. I find the service charming and part of the whole experience. The only thing I've ever had here that I didn't like were the profiteroles which were hard. But apart from that this is delicious French food.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here recently and were thrilled with it. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. I ordered the Boef Bourguinon and it was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back.

Favourite of Ours. First place we think of when we want to eat French!<br/>Love it.

Top notch!. After reading the reviews on Urbanspoon I knew the quality of the night might be a flip of the coin. It was brilliant. May have helped that our booking was at 7pm and one of the first 2 in the place... the food did take a bit long to come out, and the service was extremely French (mildly pretentious, mostly adorable). But the food was to die for... I had the Ravioli entree (my mouth is still watering at the though) and Steak Tartare (not only was it delicious, but the serving was massive, I almost couldn't finish it). My partner had the Rabbit Terrine entree which was succulent and the Fish of the Day main (IIRC it was a Barrumundi, but I was too busy with my Steak to really care!).<br/><br/>A perfect evening - the place did fill up from about 8 so I can easily imagine how some of the service may suffer... but a 7 booking was great.
Sue
Disappointed. Overpriced, over cooked , poor quality food. Hard profiteroles. The fresh bread the best. Waiters not interested in customers. Never go back. Had a better meal at local RSI quarter the price.

Terrible service, poor decor. My husband and I went to Paris Go in February. It looked like it would be such a romantic place to go.<br/>Rather than write a long rant here are the key issues that made it an awkward, not so romantic night:<br/><br/>- being left awkwardly amongst other diners while a table for four had to be modified for just the two of us despite booking earlier in the week<br/><br/>- we were never asked if we wanted a drink once we had sat down, had we been asked we would have been likely to have ordered a glass of champagne to begin the evening. It was a situation where we weren't sure whether she was coming back to offer one or not.<br/><br/>-Food wasn't too bad. Cooked and presented well. Tasted good, however nothing amazing that I will remember for a long time.<br/><br/>-despite the fairly decent price of the food there (mains >$35) they use paper table cloths on top of fabric ones. No candles on the tables or flowers or anything besides cutlery and the essentials! (A French restaurant WITHOUT candles?!?!)<br/><br/>- The main dining room had a few posters framed and that is about it. When you have a seat facing away from the road there ain't much too look at.<br/><br/>- the restaurant was fairly crammed, I had to frequently move my chair forward so the person behind me could get out.<br/><br/>- in all, the waitress was obviously stressed, she came and went quickly and we did not feel valued. I never saw her smile, she seemed annoyed when I asked about a word that I did not know the meaning of.<br/><br/>-the table behind with 6+ people - I noticed that only half of their entrees come out at once and it must have been at least 15mins before the rest of them came out!<br/><br/>In summary we will not be returning to Paris GO. <br/>I don't think it is too much to ask from a French restaurant to have a romantic atmosphere. I felt we were rushed, they had not adequately planned a table for us which made it awkward and we did not feel valued.

Terrible food. Never again. Went with 6 people. We each had something different and no one liked their meals.

I was treated to dinner here for my birthday last month. The food was divine and service top notch. Romantic, elegant and a delightful place to spend an evening.

Ooh la la - this was a great experience! The mussels were superb! Very French, very good food, fun waiters!

Very French, very good..... I was delightfully surprised by this little Carlton gem - it reminded me of dining in French restaurants in Avignon and Bordeaux. The food was simple, yet delicious, the service very accommodating and the value exceptional (BYO offered as well). This is the sort of place you can depend on when you just want a solid meal with no fuss and know you'll be in for a great night out.

How bad can service be?. We were a party of three and we went to Paris Go last night. The food is fantastic but unfortunately that's the end of the good news. They have too many tables and chairs squashed into the space available which means many diners are continually being brushed by waiters or they are locked in and not able to move. But fiorget about that, the worst feature is the service. We waited 45 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. And that set the pattern for the whole evening. They obviously do not have enough staff and they have no systems. I have been there muliple times and it's always the same. They have no idea of how to give reasonable service in a timely manner. We were there for the long haul last so there was no rush but they kept us waiting far too long for everything - including 20 minutes for the bill! And they give no indication that they care. We absolutely won't be going back.

Food was very good. And it was nice to have a waiter with some personality

Tres bon mate. We have been to Paris Go several times over for various family occasions, ordering a total of about 25 main meals, plus desserts, and we have never been disappointed by the food or service. The staff are always charming, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I can highly recommend Paris Go (especially the French Onion Soup and the Beef Bourginon - I know, could my choices be any more cliche? But they are classics and they are done well!)

Great food can be sabotaged by offhand service. Restaurant staff can't always perform top of their game - after all, we're all human. But having many times eaten the truly excellent food on the Paris Go menu, I'm justified in finally having a shot at the wait staff: inattentive, unenthusiastic, making me feel like a pest. There hasn't been a single item on their extensive menu I haven't loved - and my guests also praise it, including a gluten-free friend who spoke in advance on the phone to the very helpful chef. I'll probably go back for the food, but for goodness sake, inject some spark into those offhand or invisible waiters - or get rid of them!
Serena
Arrogant waitress. Great food, but terrible service. We were sat at a table and then within 5 minutes were asked to leave the table for others who were 30 minutes late for their booking. We had a reservation, but were told to come back in 15 minutes and were left to find our way out of the restaurant. Of course, we will never return! There is not enough attention paid to the quality of staff.

Excellent dining experience. This place is much like a hidden gem for me. Found the restaurant in a food blog and what surprises me is the food and environment is just so excellent. Had a very pleasant dining experience with my girl and we just love it. The waiter is funny and nice, the environment is so comfortable for us and the food is so tasty. With the dessert of the day and the bread that was being served, it just made everything perfect. Would love to go back with my girl for another perfect experience.

Good food but appalling service - A great shame their food deserves better. Booked for dinner on the 27th July as we were looking for a place with good food but the capacity for BYO. From the moment I entered the door of the restaurant I felt like I wasn't wanted there.<br/><br/>Considering we ordered 3 courses each and ending up spending almost $100 per head purely on food I expected to be treated with some decency rather than as a nuisance.<br/><br/>Waited a long time at the table before being asked if we wanted a drink and then when the waiter brought over the wrong drink for me he argued that it was my fault. I ordered a kronenbourg and he was answering me back saying 'no you ordered a corona' and tutted when he walked away.<br/><br/>The cheese plate was brought over with 6 small samples of different cheeses. We asked the waiter to explain what each of them were, his reply was 'cheese' before walking off. Surely its not too much to ask just to be informed what we were eating when it isnt specified on the menu?! <br/><br/>I asked the waiter if he would make an affogato for one of us, his reply was 'no, if you want an affogato go to Lygon St' and pointed at the door. I was absolutely gobsmacked and I am still disgusted to this day to have been spoken to and treated like we were. The tables either side of us received courtesy and even banter with the wait staff while we failed to get even entry level decent service. <br/><br/>I work in hospitality and can excuse bad service on busy nights or in a place where it is designed for cheap eating, to be treated so badly in a restaurant that seems to think of itself within the upper echelons of Melbourne cuisine left me very disappointed. The food was very good, quail and dumplings for entree and lamb and the beef bouguignon were beautiful dishes, it is just a great shame that the same of level of care and passion does not continue to the front of house staff! <br/><br/>If you like good food and are prepared to spend money on a night but be treated like you are wasting the wait staff's precious time then please consider Paris Go. If however, you like to have some kind of quality service then avoid this place like the plague. <br/><br/>A great shame - their food deserves better

What's not to love in here?. This place is classy - nothing of French arrogance. For a start, there was good service and warm crusty smokey baguette. The truffle omelette was amazing - much like the truffle macaron from Pierre Herme Paris... Although it could do better if the eggs were more runny for a creamier touch. The prime eye fillet was a winner and the thinner porterhouse just paled in comparison. Both steak came out medium rare (close to rare in fact) even though we requested for medium. But it was a blessing in disguise. The eye fillet had a crusty exterior with lovingly tender centre. Overall, it's great quality at good value.

Paris Go Elsewhere. We arrived on Monday night at 9pm. Their web page says they're open til 10. 2 other diners in the restaurant when we walked in. We waited 5 minutes and eventually had to call out to be attended to. When we said we'd like dinner she went to check with the chef, came back to say the kitchen was closed! Have they ever heard of the concept of making the customer feel important? With so many good restaurants in Melbourne I won't be going back again!

Nice little French bistro with generous portions and reasonable prices. We all enjoyed our meals especially desserts :) Could not fault!

Great romantic night out. Place was packed out which is a good sign. Staff were clearly busy so service was a bit slow but attentive when it came. Great wine selection of both french and australian wines. Had the mixed cold starter to share. The smoked salmon was amazing. Steaks for main which were melt in the mouth. Unfortunately our preferences for rare and medium rare were muddled up between steaks one porterhouse one was eye fillet. In the end we just swapped and were quite happy, didn't see the point in sending them back. No room for desert but they looked awesome. Would definitely go again, next time with a bigger appetite for desert.

Ooh La la. Feels very french as you walk in with the posters on the wall and the subtle decor. The waitress adds to the authenticity with a strong french accent. Service is good considering that she was the only one there to manage the entire restaurant.<br/><br/>Entree: We ordered the crab bisque soup, escargot, black pudding and goats cheese ravioli<br/><br/>Mains: We ordered the barramundi with scallops, prime eye fillet with mash, chicken breast with yabby and a side of shoe string french fries & vegies<br/><br/>Dessert: We ordered the lemon tart and fig pudding.<br/><br/>Overall: Very decent food, one of the best steaks I've ever had. Will come back to sample the other menu items definitely.

Been to Paris Go a few times now, and while I enjoy it I always feel like I'm an imposition to the staff. Not sure if it's a French thing happening, but overall a pleasant experience. Paris Go is also in the Ent Book which makes it even more palatable, not to mention the Kronenbourg beer.

Wow! A true gem! Service is second to none & food authentically french!! They dp it right

French favorites such as Escargot and Cassoulet are great winter warmers and are sure to please. The bread was gorgish. Service on a busy Saturday night was stretched and typically French, which was nice and added to the atmosphere.

The food here is 'ok'. We have web there 3 times now and we leave happy but not impressed. The duck was lovely but the barramundi needed a sauce to tie it all together. The pear tarte tartine was broken in half but was still served. The wait staff are engaging and make this place! Would I go back? Sure! Would I search it out and tell lots of people about it? Probably not.

Great intimate little bistro. Wonderful, rich aromatic meal. Duck = delish. Will be back for more.

Loved it. Best french food in Melbourne, by far.<br/>Service was perfunctory, but that's what you expect I guess.
Food For Life
Worst cheese plate ever. The meal was OK. Serviceable at best. Just ticked the boxes as far as delivery of classic French bistro fodder. Fish soup overly salty and somewhat dull and the pouisson with tarragon and figs came with an overpowering jus (looked like the same one served with the duck) - just a mess of flavours. <br/><br/>Without doubt however the lowest point was the cheese plate which just about made me fall off my chair in laughter when it was presented. For$18 this monstrosity (which was served on a wooden board) consisted of nine miniscule thumbnail size piles of of cheese (I exaggerate not - estimated COG $2 max) sitting on the boards outer perimeter. I think this was intended to be clever modern presentation however it just looked mean (which it was serving-size wise) and cutting hard cheeses this small simply dries them out rapidly (cheese needs to be kept in moist conditions). No explanation on the menu or in the delivery of what type of cheeses and though I am familiar with most French cheeses couldn't possibly identify these as a magnifying glass was not provided. <br/><br/>Much more impressed by the ambience, execution and service at Moreton's just up the road.
