Wonderful place in a great location on spring street near parliament house excellent coffee nice menu beautiful surroundings. Worth a visit very relaxing
The staff were the highlight, don’t get me wrong the food was well nice. 2/3 if the dishes we ordered were spectacular and the third was okay. The way the staff interact, is well above standard. Great place, definitely recommend booking in for pre show dinner!
Had egg and bacon roll and a cappuccino. The egg and bacon roll was pretty good. The bun was nice and soft with tasty bacon and egg plus a nice chilly jam. The Coffee was okay, so not sure we will go back for coffee but will go back for the egg and bacon roll again.
Right next to the Princess Theatre, Federici is a lovely old fashioned cafe/bar. We had a pair off the share plate menu. Mac n cheese Croquettes and spicy lamb ribs. They were both great. The truffle aioli was delicious. The lamb ribs were well balanced slight sweet and mildly spiced with chilly.
The young staff are very friendly, efficient and courteous.
Just ideal before a trip to the theatre to see Book of Mormon.
Came for a meal before seeing a show next door. We didn't have a booking, but the staff were very obliging and made room for us at the bar. Staff were very attentive and friendly, and our meals came out very quickly! So much so we even had time for dessert. Meals were slightly on the pricer side, but their deliciousness made up for that.
Great food friendly staff and a great place to have a coffee and chat.
I would recommend their breakfast Egg 🍳 and Bacon 🥓 with sweet chilly sauce .👍🏻
Love this restaurant. The staff are amazing, everyone is suspiciously highly attractive. The banter was great, the martinis and the desserts were excellent and waiting for us at intermission. Definitely returning 11/10
Sarah and Honey are the best staff members I've seen! So friendly and attentive. Highly recommend coming here just for them. Food is great and service is fast
Stopped by before watching a show at the theatre next door. Staff are super cheerful. Have a nice selection of salads, lots of tasty and healthy options. Ordered coffees too and coffee came out quickly after ordering and came with a small butter snap cookie. A bit pricy but convenient if you're dining before heading to the theatre.
Food was amazing and service very polite and attentive.....................................................................................................
Beautiful food and brilliant, quick service! A great place to grab a reasonably priced bite to eat before going to the theatre which is conveniently situated next door.
5/5 For a beautiful dinner in an amazing setting. Erin and the team were impeccable and loved our experience here last night.
So much detail - glasses polished, marble top tables, silver was shining and the detail right down to the flowers was perfect.
We weren't there to see a show as I'm not that kinda girl so the usual crowd here is transient to the show after yet it was good to chill and relax in such a beautiful place.
We had the chicken wings in BBQ sauce and yum - these were delicious. Next was a schnitzel and Italian coleslaw which was a beautiful serve and chicken perfect again with a tangy red coleslaw.
Beef burger was a generous serve - loved the flavour. Best thing thought was their espresso martinis. VERY GOOD - almost too good 😂
I dined here before seeing Matilda last night. Due to a replacement bus it took us longer to get into the city. By the time we got to the city we had barely 40 minutes to spare. We decided to go to Federici Bistro because it was right next door to the Princess Theatre. It was very busy and fortunately they had one table left. I asked the waitress if we would have time to eat here before the show, and she said yes. She ended up being right, which was such a relief!
The service was fast despite how busy it was. The food was very nice too. I had a prawn noodle salad with some really delicious coconut dressing and lemongrass. I would definitely recommend this dish though I would have liked some more coconut dressing. The prawns were really nice too!
Apparently the burger was very nice.
I would definitely return here next time I see a musical at the Princess Theatre.
Been here twice, very lovely staff member both times 😊 nice quiet cafe, small menu but tasty food! We had the Beetroot gnocchi , pretty dish & delight & the burger & fries. Gnocchi was suitable size for female eater & the burger was substantial enough for my male lunch companion! 😜
Lovely !. Had a nice dinner last night with one of my friends. Our waitress was the most lovely woman - very attentive, knowlegable and super friendly. We ended up here as next door, at the City Wine Shop, we were treated rudely and told to move tables by the wait staff and then ignored. So happy we ended up at the bistro instead - deliciously cooked salmon and a great experience overall! Will be back.
Fabulous restaurant next to theatre. Last minute decision to eat at Frederici as it was next to theatre. Great food and prompt service. We were able to have our dessert and drinks reserved for the interval which was spot on! Will visit on our next trip!
Great night out. A fantastic night with great food. Was a bit apprehensive due to the negative reviews listed, but decided to give it a go. a group of 4 for pre show dinner. were seated within 2 minutes (yes we had a booking). Friendly waiting staff, pleasant atmosphere, & very accomodating to dietary requirements. meals were great, entree, main and desert & coffee during show intermission.
a really great nite with very good service. Considering how busy the place is given that staff must deliver all meals ensuring they can be eaten prior to the start of a show, they did a really good job. Well done Federici.
Perfect location, great food and fantastic service. We were stuck in traffic, they saved our table and made sure we were served in plenty of time. It is now my preferred pre-theatre restaurant. I recommend the fish!
Interesting set of mixed reviews here. Maybe it depends on which particular staff are serving. Anyway, a friend told me how he went to the bistro for a cuppa latish one evening while he he waited for his wife to get out from South Pacific. He said that the service was great and gave it the highest recommendation. The next evening I went there to buy a couple of slices of pie to take back to our hotel for supper. Though they looked to be run off their feet with seated customers they very happily fixed me up with the delicacies. The next morning (Sunday) we needed a quick breakfast before our flight back to Sydney. The bistro was the only place nearby that was open at 7.30, so we went there for a quick breakfast, with impeccable service. There were Sunday papers provided and very tasteful music playing on the background. What more could you want? 10 / 10
Value, service and atmosphere. I stumbled upon this inner-city treasure only recently and am already dying for another opportunity to visit! Devine coffee and delicious food are only the beginning - Federici is equipped with attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff. The atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant, the breakfast menu varied and very well priced. I rarely bother to comment publicly about such things, but I was so impressed with my experience that I felt compelled to share!
Lovely Evening. Beautiful French champagne by the glass, a lovely plate of antipasto, and a creme brulee to die for. This was an unexpected find in the city, but it drew us in as we strolled past because it looked like something from 1950's Paris. And it tastes like it too! A romantic corner with service to match - impeccable.
Good for brunch! (Haven’t tried other meals but suspect it’d be good for them too). Friendly staff with good service, small menu but good quality. Nice decor and atmosphere too. Coffee is excellent but that’s par for the course in Melbourne hahaha
If you have ever been to the Princess Theatre - you should definitely visit this classic cafe with a long history. The place looks very elegand, staff is polite and gentle and the prices are slightly higher than everage. But understand what you pay for.
I would mention their special feature - how they serve the cutlery (telling the story of the famous actor Federico Federici).
Professional service, perfect coffee, great breakfast. Highly recommended
Beautiful art deco interior and great acai bowl almost to good to eat!
Spent our time here between Parts 1 and 2 of Harry Potter. Time well worth spent! Staff were so friendly and made us feel absolutely at home. Food was also delicious. We will definitely be back if we're ever enjoying a show at the Princess Theatre again.
We had eggs and smashed avo on sour dough as well as good quality Melbourne latte. The waitress and counter staff were all lovely, friendly and efficient. The food was very reasonably priced for downtown Melbourne and the cakes and sandwiches looked fresh and delicious.
Food was superb but sorry guys service was a 1 star. Snail pace slow. Got there at 5pm ordered our food. Took 30 mins just for 4 arincini balls to come out. As you are aware most patrons are seeing the show next door at 6.30. Our mains came at 6pm and we rushed our food down. Also what kind of an establishment doesn’t have bathroom facilities. Flabbergasted that my dinner guest had to wait in line with the patrons next door waiting to see the musical just to use the rest room.
Also please update your menu online. I came in to order something I saw on the menu only to be told it’s an old menu online.
