A must when in Melbourne - awesome food and great, quick service. Highly recommend the baked pork buns and wasabi prawns but everything I have tried on the menu has not disappointed!
It is definitely one of the best dim sum place you must try for those visiting Melbourne.
We love Tim Ho Wan! Food is delicious and service great. We are working through the menu and trying everything but our staples are the baked pork buns & the congee. Ever present. We try monthly specials and loving the truffle rice atm! Been going many times now and do not have plans of stopping. We are also experts on when to avoid the rush hour & the queue. Thanks Tim Ho Wan! (BTW, I have been to almost all Yumcha restaurants in Melbourne. I know what I'm talking about. Honestly, this is an affordable Michelin starred place. I did not miss any runny, cloggy, yolky egg tarts.)
Small menu but utterly delicious. Silky dumplings, juicy and flavourful fillings. The chicken rice and mushroom dish was fabulous!
We know what time to be there to avoid the crowd. Food standard as always good and we are very satisfied walking out after our meal. Best place for dim sum in Melbourne.
Friendly staff, great food 10/10.. my favourite was the pork dumpling shrimp and charcoal bun! I've ordered 4 kinds of dishes and ate it by myself!! Lol
The BBQ pork bun was a little bit dry on the inside. Not as good as the one we had in Hong Kong or Sydney store. Other dishes were good especially the spinach and prawn dumpling! Service was fast. A bit pricey but acceptable! Will be back!
We went at an off peak time so we didnt have to queue. We loved it and thought it was reasonably priced. The baked pork buns and sticky rice in lotus leaf are a must!
Overall rating: 4
The aroma of this Chinese Yum Cha restaurant drew us into this restaurant as the most appropriate spot to catch up with my friends.
The interior of the restaurant is very eye-catching due to its traditional yet modern decor.
Luckily this place serves Yum Cha for dinner, which I have always wanted. We ordered their popular Baked Bun with BBQ Pork and it was so die for. The bun was so crispy and flaky, and as you bite into it, the insides start exploding with the BBQ pork that is so juicy, sweet and salty. I could eat so many of those buns.
Prawn Cheung Fun is always a must at Yum Cha restaurants and they did an amazing job at not only creating a soft easy-to-tear and delicious soy sauce, but they have variations of the vermicelli roll which I would love to try at my next visit.
The pork here is amazing given their pork rib with black bean sauce being a surprisingly experience for me. I would never in a million years order this sort of dish, but my friend ordered us to try it. The pork was so juicy and fatty, and so flavourful.
I enjoyed the chicken feet, but it was a bit salty for my liking. The chicken feet was cooked perfectly, with its skin falling right off its bone.
The wonton soup was a bit bland for my liking and not worth my money.
Their steamed dumplings are a must but it was dinner time and we're craving for something more filling.
Hit and misses, but definitely hits the spot for tasting like home.

Ordered from Eatclub app with 30% discount for takeaway.
We ordered the baked bbq pork buns and crispy tofu skin with prawns.
Baked bbq pork - the pastry was nice and crumbly and sweet; wasn't expecting it to be sweet. The filling had meat pieces you could bite and the flavour was good.
Crispy tofu skin w/prawn - really enjoyed the flavour with this and I think it's because of the spring onions. The prawns were whole and juicy. Unfortunately they it was not crispy and would have been nice if there was mayo to dip.
Only downside was the ETA was 15 minutes and I checked in early and it was already ready which meant had already ready started to get cold. Otherwise, flavours were good and I'd visit again.
Tim Ho Wan is a great place for a snack or light meal. They didn’t used to be super veg friendly but they’ve added quite a few new options since opening. I love the fried tofu which has great flavour and texture. The Hong Kong egg tarts are pretty good. But the rice rolls topped with sweet sesame sauce is my absolute favourite and decently filling for the price.
Tim Ho Wan doesn't have much variety on the menu, however each dish is well prepared. We ordered:
Steamed prawn rolls
Steamed chinese donut rolls
Radish cake
BBQ pork buns
Prawn dumplings
Mango sago
Everything we tried was delicious, all the dumplings were perfectly steamed but I highly recommend the BBQ pork buns!
The pork bun was soft and crispy simultaneously making it the perfect porky bun indeed, as was the rest of the dishes which were very nice n succulent.
Craved a Cheung Fun so stumbled across this place on Zomato and decided to give it a try. I got a table that had its individual iPad for ordering, loved it as i could order conservatively and just add as I went. The Cheung Fun was good, classic. Chicken feet dish too. The spinach dumplings were Ok, lacked a bit of flavour and I also got their special Salted egg dumpling w chicken and prawn, it was good but the salted egg could’ve been integrated better. Overall, simple menu but good easy no fuss food, and efficient service.
This is the first yumcha place that I have found steamed rolls. Definitely back for those. We ordered too much and ended up having takeaway.
⭕️ Must try: steamed rolls, congee with 2 kinds of eggs, prawn hargao, seasonal veggie, sticky rice
⭕️ Not impressed: chicken legs, radish cake
Very busy location, if you order dessert 90% it will come out before everything else lol. Will come back to try more in the menu!
This place is basically all day yum-cha, which already gives it an upper hand over other restaurants, as there is no other restaurant like it. The food is fresh and service is efficient. The serving sizes and value is about right, perhaps a little stretched. A large male eater could easily blow $50 - this would be above regular yumcha prices. Still, a very good restaurant!
Bbq pork bun and the salted egg bun are the stars, this place absolutely is a flavour town.
A great place for Chinese lovers! I enjoyed their dumplings and noodles the most!! A fine place for a get-together with family and friends!!
Stopped by here for lunch, quite busy for a non-peak time. Menu has small variety however their dishes were delicious and came out very quickly. Would recommend the lava balls (I think that’s the name), pork buns and wasabi fried dumplings.
Don’t expect personalised, interactive service here, there is little conversation however the service is still diligent so nothing for me to be unhappy about.
Overall the prices are reasonable and the food is very good so I would return!
Great location... queue moved quickly, good service, yum cha awesome. Also tried this restaurant in Central Hong Kong and loved it... my favourite is the the BBQ pork buns. Highly recommended

You need to early for the lunch crowd rush. A long time but the efficient operation means no long wait time.
Respect to good quality and prompt service.
A well known international chain run well to perfection.
The pork buns are the highlight.
Many specials to keep things interesting.
The prawn dumplings and dim sums are made to amazing high standards .
May give the chicken rice dishes a miss..
It's been a little while since the opening of Master of Dim Sum, Chef Mak Kwai Pui's first Melbourne restaurant, Tim Ho Wan. And the crowds are still flooding in.
Tim Ho Wan, otherwise known as the most affordable Michelin rated restaurant in the world, has a big mantel to uphold by honouring the original Michelin Star restaurant's ethos of selecting only ingredients of pristine quality and making every single dim sum dish to order. Tim Ho Wan worked with farmers and suppliers across Victoria to source the menu's rare ingredients a full year in advance to secure consistently fresh and quality produce, which is the cornerstone of all Tim Ho Wan dishes.
Taste great even though it is a commercialized Cantonese restaurant. A little bit crowd, and table is too small for lot of dishes. It is in CBD, parking is a plain, wouldn't worth going there for food only.
Absolutely AMAZING pork buns and I would definitely say its a MUST HAVE! They are so delicious in every single aspect. The filling itself is scrumptious and not too sweet, the bun itself is crisp and light but yet buttery and soft! Everything about this dish makes it understandable why it’s a SIGNATURE 🥰 Huge recommendation from me for anyone craving a bbq pork bun or even a polo bun!
Good quality classic dim sum, with flavors almost similar to the one in HK. Although they don’t have a wide selection of dim sum as compared to other yum cha restaurants, their food has always been consistent and good. Great for those who want a quick dim sum fix in the cbd .

Overall, these dishes are very delicious.
Tim Ho Wan uses the same soy sauce (I assume) for vermicelli roll with prawns and poached fresh seasonal vegetables.
I especially love the baked bun with BBQ pork: the outer layer smells really good and has a creamy and slightly sweet taste, also the fillings is well-sauced; and the glutinous rice in lotus leaf: the sticky rice is soft and fluffy and mixed with lots of well-marinated chicken meat.
However, I find the soup of chicken wonton noodles a bit plain.
We enjoyed our lunch here. There was a line but it didn’t take us long to get seated. It was a family friendly place. The rice with mushroom, chicken and sausage was our favorite. Service was precise.
Very attentive, efficient and pleasant service. Menu is tight and doesn’t offer everything under the sun like other yum cha places. But this is exactly why they excel in what they offer. Aside from the bbq pork bun which is definitely in a class of its own, other dishes like the congee and even the mango sago are quite possibly the best in Melbourne. Prices are reasonable. We just had our first yum cha dinner tonight and I really couldn’t fault anything.
I was excited to try Tim Ho Wan obviously because I wanted to have a Michelin star experience! The usual dim sum food- har gow, siu mai, chicken feet, pork spare ribs, cheung fun... while they all tasted great and I couldn’t find any fault with them- they also didn’t really stand out to me compared to other yum cha eateries. The egg tarts were ok, depending on what kind of pastry you prefer. I personally like flaky pastry which they didn’t have. What did stand out however, was the BBQ pork bun. It was amazing! I highly recommend it! I’d go back just for that.

WOW SO GLAD WE TRIED THIS PLACE!
Always so busy and packed, we were worried we would not get a seat. However, the moment we walked in we were promptly seated. There were so many good dishes to order but we were impressed by their famous Baked Bun with BBQ Pork ! So crunchy on the outside and soft and on the inside.
Portions were big and we felt was comparable to other yum cha out there. We definitely felt so full with all the dishes we ordered.
Service was prompt and efficient. They brought out dishes quickly and a few at the time which we didnt mind.
Would definitely return and eat more Baked Buns!
Great yum cha style eatery with a really focused menu that helps steer you away from the gluttonous pitfall of traditional yum cha: ordering the first thing that comes out. Highlights are the beef balls, prawn and wasabi dumplings and egg tarts
Stumbled across this shopping.
Seated straight away which was great.
Wrote our own order and selected our food which was new but cool.
Staff were very prompt and friendly
Food came out quite quickly and was great!
Recommend this place!
😱😱😱😱😱ABSOLUTELY SHOOK 😱😱😱😱😱
Okay so I usually eat Yum Cha at your good ol’ golden dragon/ gold leaf restaurants however we decided to stop by Tim Ho Wan to sus the hype and it’s pretty worth it!!!!
We ordered:
🥟 Baked Bun with BBQ Pork $7.80 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🥟 Prawn Dumplings $8.30 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🥟 Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp $7.80 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Baked Bun with BBQ Pork was a little TOO sweet for my liking but my boyfriend loved it.
Highlight dish was the Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp it honestly melts in your mouth!
A bit on the pricier side for yum cha however it’s still BOMBBBbbb
I love the yum Cha at this restaurant and will always go there if I were in the city. Staffs there are very efficient and will always direct you a seat without any delay provided you are not in the long queue. My favourites are pork bun, siew Mai, Kwai fa kou, steam chicken legs, and almost everything I will go for it. Good food here.
Great yum cha. There is always a line whenever I go but it’s quick and seated fast. The menu items are less than other yum cha places but the food comes fast and always delicious/quality always the same never goes down. The bbq pork bun is a must have as well as their speciality custard egg bun.
The first time I visited this restaurant was in Hong Kong at its 1st tiny original restaurant. I was so excited to hear the news that they were coming to Melbourne. I now visit Tim Ho Wan once a month. I love the place.
Have been here serval times, good for breakfast and dinner, fair price, quick and nice service. Good quality of the foods. Nice to try their new menu all the times. All foods are good to my health.
Great place for quick Hong Kong street food that still taste authentic, located in convenient location. Have been here multiple times on different days and it is always busy, however because their service is very quick there is no long wait time. Their most popular dishes are very good, egg tart, dim sum, bbq pork bun and cheong fun. Radish cake was a bit of a let down as it lacked in flavour. A bit on the expensive side considering it is small portioned street food, however there are not that many planes in Melbourne that do authentic flavours so I do not mind paying the price. Definitely would come back and have taken many people here as well.

My favourite yumcha place. Everything here is delicious. Always have great meals every visit. Service is efficient too. It is also a bonus that you can still enjoy yumcha even for dinner time
Came here for the first time. Service was quick. You have to order by selecting your options on a piece of paper, which is handed to the waiter and they tick it off once each dish is served. Always busy. We came after 7pm so didn’t have to wait too long. Food is tasty. The dumplings were good, as well as the vermicelli and pancake.

Breakfast yum cha, excellent favour. Fry tofu soft inside, sashimi ball running and sandy salty egg yolk, carrot cake soft and full of favour. Price at good value for money.
Tim Ho Wan has good quality dim sum. I remember visiting in the past and not impressed but recently returned and the food was so good. I finally found a place in Melbourne that has Hong Kong rice roll with sesame 😋 the wasabi dumplings was my favourite dish.
Simple menu just got awesome taste, must have the signature dish-cha siu bao, there are a few other yum cha places have similar cha siu bao, but it's never the same with the ones in Tim Ho Wan, been back so many times just for the bao
Best BBQ Pork Bun! The bbq pork bun was crispy and flavourful. The pork was sweet enough, not too sweet. I could finish all three for myself! The other good dishes were the tofu, which was crispy outside, but silky smooth inside. The tofu was well-seasoned, and definitely the perfect light bites. My favourite dessert was the golden lava balls, which was also crispy and the salted egg flavour was distinct. I found their other dishes just average, they don’t offer a wide range of menu, but definitely order the bbq pork buns!
A very well known dim sum place on Bourke St. Most of the time you need to queue to get seat but it can be really fast. The place is huge and they have lots of seating. Foods taste wise are really good. Service is okay.
Will I be back? Yes!
I had
-BBQ puff really really good the pastry sweet and buttery
-Egg tart they were okay the egg was jiggly
-Pig liver rice roll things didn’t like them the liver tasted bitter
- radish cakes they were average
- Taiwanese pork belly rice - average pork not super tender
-fired tofu they looked really cute tasted ok
- mango sago had a weird taste didn’t really like
Been here both in person and have had it delivered a couple of times. Their congee is my staple food for days when I'm not feeling so great. The beef balls with beancurd skin is my absolute winner!
Not sure if this is a Michelin star place but it is my fave place for dumplings and buns. The pork bun is delicious and pork siumai is a must order. Service is always efficient as well.
I can not speak highly of them.
The pork buns is the highlight of our meal.
We ordereed the prawn dumplings - prawn very fresh and tasty.
Egg tart just the way i liked it, not too sweet.
Sticky rice cake very flavourful
Great yumcha option.

I really liked this place. The menu, cost, location, staff and obviously the food. Food was very fresh and delicious. Would love to visit again and again. I liked the fried prawns which was there for a short period of time. 💛
This place always been very busy day & night.
Went here for lunch with my older brother from US & mom.
We ordered the conge, pork buns, pork wrapped woth rice noodle sheet, pork & prawn dumplings,
Didn't even get too take photo of the food. Lol
We must be too hungry or the food too good
Some people might disagree with me on this but I’m gonna say that Tim Ho Wan are one of the better Yum cha joints in Melbourne. Despite their limited menu, the food was good and service was efficient.
Ordered:
Vermicelli pig livers roll: $7.50
Spinach dumpling with shrimp $7.80
Glutinous rice in lotus leaf $8.80
Baked pork dumplings (3 Baos) $7.80
Review:
Cheapest Michelin Star? Yes please. After the hype kind of dyed down we decided to try Tim Ho Wan for the very first time. On a weekend at 3.00pm it wasn’t very crowded at all. Loved the efficient service button so we don’t have to waste time flagging down waiters. I can understand why people are saying that this place is over priced, 3 dumplings for $7.8?!?! But if you’ve been to gold leaf and plume then it’s no surprise that yum Chas are crazy expensive. If you order the filling dishes like glutinous rice and vermicelli rolls than you won’t have to spend a heap ton, rather than spending your money on a ton of dumplings and having to waste $$. The vermicelli rolls were my fave, thin and fresh they must’ve made per order because it was still warm and extremely thin! The filling was delicious and I loved how they poured the soy at the table. The glutinous rice was a hit, with little msg I can taste the chicken and the leafy flavour the lotus leaf gave off, better and more different than others I’ve tasted. We only ordered one serving of dumplings to taste because we didn’t want to blow our money but they were TRANSPARENT! Crystal clear and glass thin with chunky, sweet prawn filling (which indicates whole and fresh prawn) and a whole ton of spinach, they’re not skimping!! Finally the famous Baos we got them for take away but the skin of the bao was super thin and light, nothing like I’ve ever tasted before! But it seems like they put sugar on the top of the bun as it was super sweet.
Fantastic. Been to other overseas and this one is up there with the best. The pork buns are outstanding but so is everything on the menu. A place to come to again and again.
The bbq pork bun is the bomb diggity, it is so delicious. Service is good as well and the place is clean. Food came out in no time which is a bonus when you go there starving. Affordable yumcha options.
Very very best yumcha!
I love all food here and been there many many times but never got disappointed ! Perfect location and quality food here! You have to try every thing here! Will go back soon!
Good dumpling place... almost all dumplings are yummy... prawn dumpling, beef ball with beancurd skin, golden tofu, Vermicelli roll are all delicious... they serve quite fast, suitable if we are already very hungry....
No queue when we visited on a Sunday at about 6.15pm. Orders were taken quickly and food came out one after another, piping hot. Food quality is same as the outlet I had in Sydney and Singapore. Today ordered a special dish which was fried spinach tofu with some truffle stuff as seasoning. Tofu was tender and it was fried to perfection. Other dishes were good. No misses.

A dim sum place that specialises in very specific dishes, which makes the quality and taste of their food very good. It is a bit pricey but their dumplings are the best you can get in Melbourne. And their cheong fun and rice dishes are super yummy.
Overall is excellent experience, great place to having bunch.
Foods are great as it should be, however some dishes have light flavor. I recommend to order hot Chinese tea together with your dishes.
Customer service is good but a bit slow when I asked for refilling my tea.
Weekend need to pay extra 10%.
Good cheap place to eat all day yumcha at, the bbq pork buns were really good and reminded me of Japanese melon pan. The egg tarts were also nice and warm but the other dishes were mediocre. Good experience nonetheless at a Michelin star yumcha restaurant.
One of the best DimSum in Melbourne!! What a perfect day to have Tim Ho Wan🥟💕
First time tried their Chicken Rice!🐣 And out of my expectations!! So goodd!!! The chicken are so tender and the portions just perfect 👌🏻🎉
Their SiuMai is unquestionably good! Always being my repeat order here! 💕
Also their Prawn Fried Bean Curd! 🦐 so flavorful but a bit greasy 😄
🌟 3,8/5
Would definitely recommend the chilli one of the best chillis i eaten. As to the food the baked bun with bbq pork is a must and the prawn and chive dumpkings taste like a fancy wonton. But definitely stay away from the congee with seafood as the congee is more like watery soup than congee.
This was the first time my partner had a yum cha and what better way to experience it than in the famous Tim Ho Wan!
We shared quite a few dishes like prawn dumplings, beef balls, chicken wonton noodles, slow-cooked beef soup, vermicelli roll with prawns, and more. Of course we had to end it with egg tarts for dessert 😋
It was a lovely feast for sure, a bit pricey but everything was delicious so worth to try at least once or twice (or more hehe) 🙊
