It's a great spot to grab a drink and watch the world walk by. Always found the staff friendly and the service is good.

went here for a pre movie wine and ice cream. suprised how good the interior was. Happy hour specials. booths. interactive screens showing whats going on in ACMI. great for after work drinks, pre movie or dinner or concert drinks. away from the usual spots where it's cramped and crowded come here where you can have a conversation.
The cheesecake was crazily good! It was huge and I got 2 other people helping me finish it 😂 Wasn't too sweet and tasted just perfect to enjoy in such a lovely day. However, the staff wasn't that nice but maybe she just had a bad day.
The serving sizes were huge, the service was fast, the vibe was relaxed and the staff were friendly. But what was the flavour of the food like? Well, me partner’s fish and chips was delicious and well made with a very light and crispy batter - perfect. My pumpkin salad was also impressive but lacked a little flavour. Some extra seasoning and I would have given this 5/5. Still, it came close and I’d happily return.
ACMI gets a 5 star for their new york cheesecake, which is pretty much the best cheesecake I've had in Melbourne. If you're on the hunt for the best cheesecakes in Melbourne, consider this on your list
Very bright and airy cafe bar. It is order and pay at the bar. I would prefer table service. The bar staff are very nice and obliging. We ordered lunch time meals. ACMI. Ploughmans lunch consisting of cheese,Gherkins, half scotch egg, honey smoked ham, chutney, bread, lentils, all very delicious. The vegetable terrine was also a winner. All washed down with a glass of prosecco. A good experience. We will be back
Pretty nice here, I had the chocolate muffin with a glass of the house sparkling . House sparking at a greater standard than many other CBD bars/restaurants, but not a much greater standard . Muffin a little dry but I came at end of day so that may be excused . Great couches for relaxing and talking to friends so that is a big plus for me, it's always a nice place to work on a laptop or relaxing.

It is a good place to spend time before or after movie near acmi , you have to order your meal at cashier, food is ok if you have to dine in fed sq, otherwise plenty better resturant and cafe in cbd.
Lamb shoulder was good. It has a good range of wine and beer, all it was enjoyable
Nice little cafe. Perfect for grabbing a bite to eat or beverage after an exhibition (we'd just seen the Scorsese exhibition). Service was rather slow, but the food very acceptable. I had the Moroccan chicken soup, and my loved one had the roast beef sandwich with fat chips. Both were excellent. My soup was particularly tasty and heart warming on a cool September day. We finished with coffees which were again very nice, mine being particularly rich and creamy. Service was slow as I mentioned (they looked to be one one or two people short) but certainly friendly and amiable. Prices were perfectly reasonable. All in all, a good experience, and we'd certainly not hesitate to return.
Everything has improved since my last visit, staff wee engaged, dips were fantastic and my son loved the soft shell crab sliders, well done all.
Great place to take the kids, although we did go on a non-school holiday Monday lunch.
Been here before on a weekend, wasn't as good. Seemed understaffed then.

Excellent breakfast, scrambled eggs on toast was delicious, at a reasonable price, would recommend. Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere however was a little dull
What better way to spend an afternoon than to have a beverage (or 2!) and some chicken quesadillas will slaw?! Chilled, relaxing and friendly staff.
We were pleasantly surprised that a museum cafe without table service could serve up such excellent dishes. We were merely there for the convenience and the ambiance, but the dishes impressed us with their quality, generosity and presentation.

Great sweet potato fries. Whenever I see sweet potato fries on a menu, I order them, because they’re a nice change from standard chips. Usually they’re the mass-produced variety from something like a McCain’s bag. Optic’s are SO much better, though! They’re large crinkle-cut ones, not quite wedges, but chunkier than fat chips. They’ve got a coating on the outside, so there’s crunch when you bite them, but they’re perfectly cooked so the centre remains soft and sweet. These things were so good that other people at my table were inspired to order some for themselves.
The fried chicken sandwich that came with them ($17.50 for the combo) was almost an afterthought for me next to those fries. It was also moist and tasty, although the big piece of breast meat kept sliding out of the grilled sourdough bread slices. A healthy coarse-cut slaw came on top. This was an excellent alternative to a boring chicken burger. The items that fellow diners had also got thumbs-up from them for being creative and flavourful.

Nice change for Fed Sq.. Usually I don't like the places at Fed Sq, but I was pleasantly surprised last night by Optic - fantastic bar snacks, and antipasto - and super friendly staff!
First time customer and I was pleasantly impressed! Warm inviting staff,attentive but not 'in your face'. We enjoyed the Plougherman's Lunch- great serving size and fantastic twist on this classic dish. The 10 hour lamb and roasted vegetables was cooked to perfection,delicious gremolata.Sides of mashed potato and crumbled cauliflower with fried green capers were well matched and tasty accompaniments to our lunch.
This place has greatstaff and a relaxing and tasteful interrior.
Definitely returning and have started spreading the word.
Sunday Lunch. This is the 2nd visit to this place in 6 months and must say both times the food and drink have been really good. It's not overpriced and has a great casual feel without compromising on the quality of food. The menu is not overwhelming with 100s of items - but what we have did eat so far has been tasty, fresh and delish. Today we had the pasta of the day and the spring vegetable soup - both a hit and just right. Only downfall I keep forgetting that its there! :-)
Great. Walked in at 8:30 and ordered without issue straight away. The food serving sizes are massive, especially the risotto and seafood linguini. my partner and I were out by 9pm, great service guys, keep it up!
Loved it! So happy to see different items on the menu, the zucchini flowers were amazing. Caught up with a friend and we were there for almost 5 hours and felt very welcome to stay even though we didn't spend that much. Good prices and great sav blanc!! Lovely staff.
Pleasantly surprised. The ploughmans lunch was very good. Great presentation, great taste.. Although listed as a lightmeal I found it quite filling. We also had the zucchini fritters and the tart tartin both quite good but the ploughmans dish was the hero.
Cost for 3 including a couple of ciders and a mineral water: $54.
Delicious food. Friendly efficient service. Good music. Not loud. Comfortable. What more could you ask for. Could've stayed all night!!

Optic Kitchen Bar is located at Federation Square, right next to the ACMI entrance, right where the old ACMI lounge used to be. I was really surprised how well it fit a niche that I had been looking for in the CBD Grid : a cheap, family friendly pub. Optic’s a really modern place, with various seating arrangements including my personal family favourite, ginormous booths. It’s big and open, and I love the glass cabinet just behind the bar showing off some of their offerings. Now as I wrote earlier, this place is very kid friendly. They have a great little kids menu, including Nerdling favourite chicken and chips. What was surprising though was that this arrived in a little takeaway box, meaning that if your little one doesn’t finish their meal it’s easy enough to pack up and take away for later. The food itself is excellent. I ordered a medium rare steak with mashed potatoes and rocket salad, and that’s what came out (the mash was in that little red pot). The steak came out closer to m

Optic Kitchen and Bar is a stunning option in Federation Square with its modern fit out and fine cuisine at reasonable prices. After an exciting makeover of the previous lounge, Optic Kitchen and Bar provides a great destination for those visiting the Australian Centre for Moving Images and the ACMI Cinemas, or those simply visiting Fed Square. It boasts a fabulous outlook onto Fed Square through the large window.
Dinner and a movie?. ACMI lounge is a great place to visit in the city for a unique experience. As is most places, the food is a higher price, but the service from that in unbelievable. The chefs are nice, friendly and will cater to most food issues, such as celiacs, vegans and vegetarians as well as allergies.
The staff here are friendly and outgoing, mostly backpackers who are from all regions of the world.
A few months ago I had a pleasant chat with an Irish bloke at the register, only to have a Swiss waitress deliver our food to the table.
Most of the food prices are reasonable and you definitely get your money's worth. (I recommend the nachos!)

My favorite spot for good food at Fed Square. Excellent coffee, wonderful honest fresh food. I have tried all the cafe's and restaurants at the square and this is the best. I go every month.
ACMI Cafe'. Very good, food was great, service fine, about the only place that you can be certain will be open for breakfast on a Sunday.
