Great, mature service, delicious European dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a good selection of wines and spirits.
It’s a calm and sophisticated vibe with timber tables/bar and dark tones, where you can have a private conversation with friends of business contacts without ever being overheard. The high ceilings mean you can sit up on the balcony upstairs and glance out over the bar and the laneway and watch the world go by.
A real hidden gem of Melbourne. Impeccable
choice of music as opposed to try hard trendy bars. Enjoying the 'don't you want you me baby' while sipping the best old fashioned ever ❤
Without doubt the best coffee in Melbourne, no matter which barrista makes it( which is not the case in most cafes) delicious toasted sandwiches as well. Love this place
Always excellent! Great menu, excellent wine list and fab coffee. What nore do you need in the ❤️ of Melbourne 👍🏻
I am very fond of this little corner bar. The food is quirky and delicious. The cocktails are excellent, the staff intelligent and pleasant. Cute mezzanine tables, too.
Found this place by accident. Really enjoyed myself here. The service was efficient and fun. Great selection of wine and cocktails. Looking forward to going back.
Hot friendly staff, good music and food.

Gorgeous building & great drinks food and service
Cosy, sophisticated atmosphere with a great upstairs section perfect for getting a little office work done accompanied by a delicious meal and coffee. A relaxing escape before returning to the hustle and bustle of the office. Also love love love the music!
An oasis. Have finally found a bar in the CBD I can refer to as 'my local'
Good food, great service. Interesting architecture with a rustic funky vibe.
You made me fall in love with you ......you are the exception to the rule. Thank you for a life time memory Simon
First time trying cocktails, love it! Awesome service:) thanks guys
Neapoli is one of those Melbourne institutions that is just perfect in every way. Tucked away in a nondescript laneway, this oasis is heavenly for those looking for that little bit of Europe in Melbourne. Just like a French bistro, Neapoli serves great wine and food at cute little tables inside and outside. The deck area is lovely on a Summer's day, glass of wine in hand and a few plates to share amongst friends.
Inside is a gorgeous bar area, and there are cosy tables upstairs. The atmosphere is cosy and warm, and service is impeccable. You couldn't find a friendlier place. I love to come here for coffee and cake in the morning, and for wine and tasting plates in the afternoon and at night. The perfect place for a cosy date, or a get together with friends, Neapoli covers both groups with ease. They also have heavenly desserts, and the wine list is varied, with something for everyone. This is the place to escape to when you want to relax and wind down after a long day, and it is definitely one of my favourite spots in Melbourne.
Popped in for Lunch today. Just managed to get a seat. Tables stilled up quickly.Service was good. Started off with croquettes. Tasted good, but only came with x3. We had to order another serve as we felt the serving was not enough. The waitress forgot to put the second serve through and we were waiting for some time.
I had the burger and colleague ordered the broccoli pasta. Pasta was nice and lite and came with too many capers.
The burger appeared nice upon inspection but when picked up it was like squeezing a sponge, a lot of juices came pouring out the bottom which was abit if a turn off. The bottom bun was soggy and moist. Not the best burger going around melbourne. The hand cut chips were a nice touch and I was not offered any condiments. I can honestly say that I have had better at a fast food chain.
We finished off with coffee and hazelnut gelato.Coffee was served luke warm, however the gelato was great.👍
Overall a good experience, however the chefs need to review the burgers.
My review is entirely based on their coffee and gelato selection and the vibe.
We went here around 8pm on a Tuesday evening post dinner for a hot beverage and a sweet treat. We sat upstairs in mood lighting on wooden chairs with a relaxed vibe. The coffee was very Italian - not too milky and very robust yet delicious. The gelato reminded me of Italy. Their dark chocolate was truly dark with a hint of sweetness. Their yoghurt flavoured gelato tasted like barely sweetened high quality yoghurt. Refreshing, fresh and quality!
The smell of hot chips wafting from the nearby patron's table didn't go unnoticed. I'll be back for more.
Fantastic hidden gem of a bar right in the city. We've been frequent visitors to Neapoli for drinks and snacks. Love the cosy atmosphere and the menu. They have a great selection of cheeses available and for a decent price and their other menu items are also delicious.
We found ourselves in town the Sunday morning after the night before and needing to find a quick bite for breakfast. I was surprised at how many places I assumed would be open weren't. Neapoli Wine Bar was open however and had quite a few folk inside so thought we should give it a go. The all metal all glass classic frontage gives you the illusion that this place has been around forever. We dined upstairs away from the bar. The breakfast menu was quite limited but they had what I wanted which was bagels, bacon and eggs and I was in serious need of hydration so enjoyed a freshly squeezed juice. They actually had a juicer on site but I was after apple and so my freshly squeezed juice came in bottle form but I have no doubt about its authenticity. I've been the Neapoli wine bar in the evenings and enjoyed a glass or two before a dinner out. They have a great range of wines and on at least one occasions we were able to pick some amazing European wines thanks to my brother in laws boyfriend and wine expert. This out of the way place is definitely worth the short stroll down the laneway.
Superb. Always superb. Magnificent wine list, excellent eating, expert staff. What astounds me about Neapoli is that it makes you feel both elegantly sophisticated and entirely at home at the same time. Well designed and always welcoming. I love meeting friends there, or enjoying a glass of red alone after a long day – and inevitably meeting friends who are also drawn to the place. And what a delight to read all the other positive reviews – well, it's not surprising really.
"Do you trust me?".... "Yes I trust you." Not a titanic scene, just what the man said when I asked for wine. Celebratory 1st of Feb/end of Dry January wine night. The man with the beard was very considerate in first taking our wine order before getting into the cheese selections (yes, first things first). If anyone else is crazy enough to not drink for a month (I do not recommend this), come here after and these guys will look after you. Also that creamy cheese second one on the list, oh man, just give me a wheel of it. All in all, happy here always.
A nice casual bar with delicious tapas, we ordered the mini Margherita, buffalo mozzarella on bread and croquettes..not sure what was in the croquettes but I wanted more! Haha Service was excellent too, thanks guys, will be back soon.
Lovely little wine bar with cosy yet spacious interior. Interesting and well selected wines and simple yet delicious food. Prices very reasonable and service was friendly. New city spot for me.
Enjoying the vibes at Neapoli Wine Bar, where the intimacy and sophistication is much appreciated (it's quiet even on a Saturday night!). It's perfect for chats over some dishes and a lot of wine. The tasting plate was very ordinary and wasn't worth $29 but I recommend the grilled calamari dish served with wild rice and lemon. This place isn't ideal for a meal per se, but the vibe here is great for some drinks and nibbles.
My long time friend introduced his new evil wench girlfriend to us at this restaurant. Despite that, and the fact that I wanted to slap her a dozen times during lunch, I really enjoyed my lunch here. The duck special was so yummy and so different. Asian inspired but somehow also Italian. A plate of greens were beyond tasty, with flavours I can't even capture. My friends so called vegan girlfriend had scrambled eggs and my friend had the charcuterie plate with haloumi cigars and hot peppers. This place can't be neglected or missed. Thank you chefs, you deserve to be in the good food guide.

This place is like going to a friends house for dinner - it's warm and buzzing even when it's not full of people, staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the menu is interesting and combines popular favourites with changing seasonal items - the slider and the beef short ribs are favourites of mine. Don't forget to pick up a slice of the cake du jour on the way out - you won't be sorry.
We love to come for a catch up with friends over a glass of wine and small nibbles in the evenings. The ambience is awesome, it's got a nice buzz without making you scream to be heard over a conversation, even on Fridays. We love the mezzanine level but the bar area or outside table overlooking the laneway is pretty nice, too. Great selection of wines and cheese, and the food menu usually has some special mains (I quite like their pastas and salads) or their are also wine bar style things to eat. We are pretty much repeat offenders at this place!
Working late in the office,me and a mate decided to quickly grab dinner here. Vibe was great,as was the service,we called ahead with our order which was pretty much ready when we got there. We both got cheeseburgers with chips, very nice and looking forward to trying other items on the menu in future.
Neapoli! One word. Gorgeous. It isnt a big space but offers everything one needs on a ssturday night. They were busy on the night me and my partner got there; however staff were very attentive. Good selection of wines as well! Only downside was that service was slow. Recommend management to have more staff on floor for such a busy night!
You have probably walked past Neapoli Wine Bar many times if you are as accustomed to traveling by laneway in Melbourne’s CBD as I am. Russel Place is a bare little street between Bourke and Little Collins that has no graffiti or much of anything to induce you to walk down it, but it does have several tucked away eating establishments. You can sit outside raised from the street at Neapoli and that’s what we did on one of those perfectly temperate Melbourne nights.
A great spot for a business lunch with great sandwiches of varying sizes. I had the tuna melt which is tasty and a great choice if not super hungry as the others are massive. The soy milk used in the coffee is not that great though - they should switch to using bonsoy and have an option to order almond milk.
One of my go to wine bars given its close proximity to everything, and casual laid back atmosphere. The food here is mainly tapas so don't expect to get full here, so enjoy the drinks! Located down a lane, with ample seating dependent on how you're feeling which I love: outdoor, at the bar or private upstairs - you may think it sounds funny that i point it out, but each spot to me has a different distinct feel/experience compared to other venues on the whole. I'm not a massive wine connoseur by any means so won't comment on their range, though the staff were more than friendly and informative which helped.
The food here is ok , not the best. As I described earlier, there a couple of dishes I really like. The bone marrow is a winner, a bit different and tasty. I was a bit disappointed with the Tasting Plate to be honest. Its a a bit light on, and missing some character : would maybe prefer maybe a charcuterie board or anti pasto instead. Overall it's a decent venue to kick back .
A pleasant surprise to say the least. I went there for lunch today and had the Korean beef house salad which was really fresh and creative. And tasty of course! Coffee was fantastic as well. I will come back here for dinner and wine!
Working in the city I am always looking for somewhere new that has great food and can get it out quickly during my lunch break. I made my way down to one of Melborune’s favoured laneways, Russell Place to check out Neapoli Wine Bar and to enjoy a bit of sunshine on their outdoor section.
Atmospheric laneway cafe and wine bar with delicious basics, interesting and creative additions and always top notch produce and wine. The mood and staff definitely encourage lingering and ordering that extra cup of coffee or glass of wine.
Loved this bar, service professional but very welcoming & friendly. Fantastic wine list & staff really knowledgeable & happy to make recommendations. We shared a taste plate for $29 from the daily board, one of the best taste plates I've had, interesting & no Turkish bread or dips in sight 😊 interesting little charred peppers, beautiful truffle rabbit terrine, divine mozzarella & great wagyu bresaola. The cheese burger on the daily board sounded sooo good (not ur ave cheeseburger). Will definitely go back! Recommend.
Neapoli is extremely pleasant indeed, yes a tad on the pricey side, but within reach of most for an aperitif or two. On the downside the outside chairs are arguably the most uncomfortable I've ever had to endure. That aside Neapoli comes recommended and would appeal to those who prefer the understated.
The Lamb Cutlet, Cracked Wheat and Tahini ($6.5ea) was altogether a much earthier affair. The medallion of grilled lamb with its charred edges was accompanied by a sharp little salad. The lamb was sneaking towards dry, but the fresh greens, dressed with generous amounts of lemon, made up for it.
Good prices for the drinks, decent souffle and stuff from Spring Street Grocer. They stock Hakushu whisky which is one of my favourites from Suntory at $12 a glass.

The Lion King Musical has finally hit Melbourne and of course another excuse for date night. The lovely boyfriend took me to a surprise dinner date at Neapoli Wine Bar but obviously while he was leading me there I kept thinking to myself “why does he keep insisting going down the dark alley ways?” But as soon as we got to the wine bar, I was blown away.
I had to admit that the place was quite dim but it had a romantic date feel to it. We were seated at on the stool at the side table since the first floor was full (they told us it doesn’t get that busy at the time we went which was 6:30pm on a Saturday night and walk-ins are fine). We ordered the Chef’s tasting plate (let’s face it, I just want to taste everything) which includes various little pieces such as the chicken liver pate and the Buffalo Mozzarella. The tasting plate generally changes but from our plate, it was so good!
Average food with decent portions and price.
Good selections of spirits and wines.
Decor is good but ambience is average.
Unbearable when its full otherwise it's a great place to hang out.
Great service.
Will come back eventually.
Oliver served me in conjunction with Simon. The service was amazing, kind and knowledgeble, they know what's good and they know how to pour it.
I would say Oliver should run the joint but Simon is just to great a bloke. Open a second location and put Oliver at the head of the operation.
5/5 you get what you need. Love the Nepali blokes
Great food. My husband and i went to this wine bar for our 35th wedding anniversary as a friend told us we wouldn't be disappointed, and we weren't. it was a a lovely night, we had tapas which was simply amazing and the waiter was fantastic. couldn't fault this wine bar.
My favorite place to bring visitors. I have brought more than 10 different groups of people there and every single occasion we left happy. i love the ambiance; not too noisy and they always have groovy tunes, even the cutlery used are so quaint. Food is always consistent and the right amount of taste. Service maintained an outstanding throughout and prices are also affordable especially when ordered to share. one little thing i noticed though... the soft shell crab serving seems to be shrinking every visit :p
When people ask me what is something 'uniquely Melbourne', I say go to Neapoli :)
Amazingly different, a must try location.. Took my parents and family out to Neapoli last night for dinner prior to going to the theatre. I picked this place purely for location, close to Her Majesty's Theatre and because it scored over 90% on Urbanspoon. We arrived, were greeted immediately and taken straight to our table up on the mezzanine level. We chose beers and wines from the amazingly quirky drinks list and were supplied with water and glasses straight away. We looked at the menu and were a little lost as to how it all works, as the menu had well priced small servings of all sorts of quirky dishes, nothing main stream here. When the waiter returned with our drinks we quizzed him as to how it all works and he was only too happy to help us out. No main meals each as such, although some of the dishes could be if you wanted, the idea is to order a half dozen dishes and share them. We had a dozen oysters and about a dozen dishes between 6 of us and there was not a dish which we didn't enjoy, they were all outstandingly delicious, including the gelato selection. Make sure you try the New York Pork roll, it is amazing. The total for the bill, including a couple of drinks each came out at under $50 per head. Will definitely be back again, highly reccomended and top quality.
Great little place, extensive wine list and delicious food with a relaxed vibe.
Best place in the city!. Great place to catch up with friends. Service super friendly and they make a fantastic espresso martini!
Great Find.. God company is always a good start and we came across Neapoli after going to a show.
It was perfect - great food, well priced wines (a rare thing in the city) & really friendly staff. thankyou - we will be back.
Great little place. It was the little golden gem my partner took me to a while ago on one of our first few dinner dates that has now become our go to place when we can't find another place to eat. Located in what appears to be a laneway (at least in the depth of night it seems to be), Neapoli is the perfect bar to visit to have a nice quick meal with long conversations. With it's neon sign and corner bench tops, it has the aura of a quaint little diner. However upstairs, there is the perfect setting for an intimate date or friendly catch up with a group of people.
The menu has occasional changes and there are always different specials on offer.
During the several times my partner and I have been there, the one thing we always order is the olive oil potato chips. I just love them, albeit a bit salty sometimes but I can always shake the salt off. Coming second is the soft shell crab with chipotle mayonnaise, which goes very well with it. I wouldn't recommend having both these dishes though if you are afraid of oily food since both of these are fried.
With some of the dishes on the specials board, they may require an acquired taste. There were some dishes my partner liked that I wasn't the biggest fan of and vice versa. The latest dishes we had were a beef, jamon and cheese croquette and panko crumbed flathead. It wasn't until later that we found out jamon meant blood sausages. Surprisingly my partner, who would never order such a thing if he knew, found it very intriguingly nice. He was trying to figure out what the interesting taste was all evening before asking. Unfortunately I wasn't the biggest fan of the panko crumbed flathead. I found it a little plain and hadn't anticipated that it was fried as well (we had inadvertently ordered three fried dishes).
Overall, I just love this little hidden gem and will continue to try different dishes to source out what my taste buds like.
Great find in CBD location. Cool interior in a quiet location in the heart of the city. I couldn't fault the food, service or atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
A brilliant find! A charming little place with a great vibe. I loved everything from the drinks menu (especially Weihenstephaner beer) to the delicious home-cooked food with the freshest ingredients, all made to perfection.
Staff were friendly, attentive & helpful.
The only downside about the whole experience was the long dingy trek to the toilets, but I can live that!
Highly recommended.. I took a friend there on a Friday night on the strength of a small piece about roasted Padron peppers in the Sydney Morning Herald which listed Neapoli as one place to find them. I'm glad I went.
I'm no youngster and generally don't find myself in places that can be variously described as trendy, funky, cool or hip. (Notice I didn't use 'groovy').
I was actually pleasantly surprised. We sat at the bar. The staff were cheerful and competent, it had a good atmosphere without being too noisy (a bug-bear of mine), the service was not too slow or fast, it had nice decor and the food was fabulous. The wine was good quality - perhaps on the pricy side, but I'm happy to pay when the whole experience justifies it.
Oh, and those peppers? Scrumptious little buggers!
Went there for a celebratory lunch on Cup Eve. Booked a table but decided to eat at the bar. Food and service was great. Very relaxed and approachable. Some decent value wines compared to some other city restaurants also. Will be back.
I love this place. Yes, the waiters can seem a bit snooty but once you get over that the food is delightful, the wine list is wonderful (while a touch over priced) and the deserts are a must have.
In fact the entire menu is full of interesting variations on old favorites!
Give it a go!!

Dinner function at Neapoli. Agree with RC, our small group was well wined, well dined and well looked after by attentive professional staff. All dishes prepared to perfection. We will be back
Loved it. Service was fantastic. Food was to die for - melt in your mouth. Lovely little hidden place.
Great little hidden gem!. Went there for my monthly book club gathering. The venue was picked at random from the Cheap Eats Guide.
What a fabulous little find. The service was terrific, the ambiance was great (love that effect of the mezzanine floor connected to the ground by a metallic windy staircase) and as for the food... that duck curry is worth going there all on it's own. To die for!
Good food and service - special of the days are excellent . Should be busier for what it is .
Fantastic. Wow, great food, great drinks list and friendly service.
Very well thought out design, money well spent.
Highly recommend.
Great food, very reasonably priced. Good wine list. Lovely staff.
Service, food and wine.. I absolutely love this place, 3 o'clock any day, friendly service, chicken livers a Ruben sandwich and a glass of something yummy ...
One of the coolest venues in Melbourne. Bravo Neapoli!
Attention to detail in every department. Ill be back in the morning for breakfast.
Love the slightly Gotham City look of this new wine bar restaurant. There is always interesting wine on offer, the music is well chosen, i.e. swampy blues, Ethiopian jazz, cool rock tunes, etc. and the staff are relaxed and love what they do.
Their camembert which tastes like cauliflower (cauli cheese!) is to die for.
Great atmosphere. Been there quite a few times now. Hung out the front wonderful out door lane way experience. Beautiful food. Cool hip service. They know their stuff. Like hanging out upstairs if I want an intimate experience to fine dine & more casual below. Oysters to die for. Salad always fresh. Maybe they have too much on menu. Pasta can be a bit oily. Love being able to get a fresh juice & a gin in the same breath. Cool
Classic Melbourne subculture. Great bar and great music.
Love this place. Smart desi.... Love this place.
Smart design and set up.
Drinks list perfect, especially the quality of the cocktails.
The staff make it look easy.
I'll be back, again and again
Tucked away. The place has no reservation policy but when we rocked up with 8 of us, we were advised to call in advance like 30 mins before.
Chilli con Carne is rather interesting :)
Killer Steak Sandwich (no Reuben!)
Great vibe !!
Love this place! Can't wait to spend a Friday night here with a couple bottles of wine and a double serve of the soft shell crab, perfect.
Sunday morning at 8.30 I walked in with my friend for breakfast and sat at the bar . Although we were the only ones there for breakfast what a great place . The breakfast we had was excellent and the service was there when we needed it . What a great fit out ,complement to the owners ! We will be back again hopefully we still get a seat at the bar ! Good news travels fast guys , give it time and Sunday morning will be packed . We will also come back for sunday lunch we already hear its great!
Come for a drink, stay for dessert. Decor is very funky, staff are friendly, knowledgable and know how to balance attentive service with leaving diners in peace. Food is great. Duck curry with hare krishna rice is mildly spicy and very satisfying without being too heavy. Twice I have witnessed chilli con carne disappear without a trace off my companion's plate, without getting a taste. Rabbit stew is tasty and well-bolstered by potatoes, if a bit fiddly to eat. But the standout, the sting in the tail, the reason to linger and the delight of the evening is the dessert. Souffle, to die for. I will be back for the souffle time and time again. So will you.
Perfect Gentlemen's Cafe. Great design, simple food and attentive service.
Great food, wonderful mood. From my two visits already, I feel Neapoli will become one of those places you will choose to visit no
matter what time of the day or evening. Wonderful design, combining many warm textures, great lighting and ambient soundtracks will have people returning frequently. As for the food, had a quick lunch on the first occasion- both the food and coffee were great, promptly served in a friendly, relaxed manner.
The second time was for a late supper. I ordered the steamed baby snapper and vegetables; fresh, well
prepared. Certainly an interesting array of dishes on the menu, covering a wide variety of cuisines- shall certainly be back for more.
Smart, casual wine bar, café with a menu to suit all taste buds! Food and service both good!

MoMo & Coco's Guide to Melbourne's Best Souffles - the Espresso Souffle from Neapoli
Only stopped in for one drink, but they have a big wine and beer selection, food menu looks interesting. Will definitely be going back.
A hidden gem in the city on Russell Place. Duck in for a tasty breakfast. The fruit salad is a must try, as are the poached eggs. Add a freshly squeezed orange juice to finish off breakfast (or brunch).
Cute and good selection of wine. Grenache was lovely! In a hidden little alley.
Great for a coffee meeting or dining for a small group. Great standard menu, and the specials change often and are equally delicious. I love their unusual flavoured gelati selection in summer. Would give 5 stars if I hadn't found a hair in my food on two separate occasions.
A nice place to meet with friends and have a drink. We went on a Saturday afternoon (1600) and the place was quiet - as we like it - and sat in a cosy corner upstairs. I had an espresso, which I would not recommend on the basis of it not tasting nice, some wine, which was nice, and a little snack. The prices are a bit high, especially the food, but the staff were quite friendly and accommodating to our requests.
Great wine selection and staff know what they're talking about - its the type of place that makes me love Melbourne.
Only sad thing is that they as a venue chose to let smokers keep smoking outside and so banned eating, which means we couldn't even get some olives to go with our rosé. For that reason only I give 4 stars otherwise I'd give 5 for sure
