Excellent presentation, from the beautiful glassware to the plating of the dishes. We shared croquettes, zucchini fritters, lamb cutlets & paella, which were all flavoursome & delicious. The service was fabulous, I will definitely return & am happy to recommend.
Amazing fresh food had been before and was even better then last each dish we had and exiting mouth watering flavors
Fresh produce and amazing tasting food, friendly and helpful staff completed the experience for us
Will come back for:+ Grilled calamari salad+ Roasted cauliflower+ Dry aged rib eyeWas in the area and decided to check out the Spoonbill (attached to the Olsen Hotel in South Yarra) for dinner. The space was modern and had a good buzz going with patrons on a Sunday dinner service. We ordered a whole bunch of salads to share and was delighted with their grilled calamari salad (really impressed with how well the salads have been prepared and julianed). The roasted cauliflower was also well prepared and deliciously textural, tasty and generous. We also loved how tender the rib eye was cooked and how delicious the gravy that went with it was. The lamb ribs was disappointingly small (2 pieces) for the price you pay though. Service was super efficient and friendly and we couldn’t be happier. The panacotta was more jelly then panacotta but we ate it all all the same. Prices was good for what you get and we will definitely be back to try out some of the other dishes.
Lunch @ spoonbill saw the lovely wife and I sample the Quick Sticks lunch and a bottle of plonk to wash it down.
Wife took on the Fish and Chips and I chose the Steak Sandwich. Every element balanced well across the meals, with the onion jam on the steak popping off in the subtle dark bread, whilst the fish was cooked to perfection in the lightest batter and the greatest tartare I have sampled.
All washed down with a McLaren Vale Puritan Shiraz 2019 - only a year or less old but a cracking bottle of a great vintage in the organic subset.
All up, I will be returning happily to Spoonbill soon!

Breakfast at Spoonbill is a highlight when staying at The Olsen. The carrot hummus dish is my current favourite, so much so that I hope it remains on the menu in future! The staff are friendly and always accommodating, including making sure that our two children are happy and well catered for (surprise chocolates and all!). I felt that the breakfasts had dropped off in quality about 6/8 months ago, so it is pleasing that they are reliably delicious once more!
The food is sooo nice, it has been under rated. Main is really delicious. The staff is really helpful. Dessert could be improved. Will recommend to friends for sure.
Dined here for dinner last night. We shared the pork belly steamed bun, chicken taco, croquettes, betel leaf & beef ribs. I also had the lychee & ginger martini. Everything was delicious. Friendly service. In the entertainment book so got a good discount off the total bill.
The Olsen hotel gave us a coupon to try out their restaruant for breakfast this morning. I ordered the hummus avocado toast, with a extra poached egg and mushrooms. It was pretty nice however if I had to pay for it, I would've left feeling abit ripped off. It's quite expensive for what you get. The decor is nice, and the service Is fairly good. The menu is quite small, I would've liked to see options like pancakes, waffles, Acai bowl etc. Definitely not the best breakfast I've had but it hit the spot!
What a delicious meal!!! The soft shell crabs steamed buns are the most delicious morsels... those lamb ribs are superlative and that pork belly was a perfect mix of crunchy, fatty and tender! Chef Russell and his team served up another impressive meal. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is soothing
My wife & I celebrated our anniversary and wanted to dine somewhere different. Spoonbill certainly delivered. We chose a number of dishes in a share plate style. The menu had enormous variety & would have something for all tastes. Every dish was full of flavour & very fresh. The service was friendly with the staff happy to make recommendations. I will return especially for the Betel Leaf, Lamb Ribs & Pear Salad.
Adore the set up of this place. Theres nothing I love more than a high ceiling and lots of lighting fixtures. Caught up with a friend for dinner and we decided to tackle a whole heap of small plates so we could order the hugely appetising desserts. Soft tacos and mini burgers were the order of the day but let's talk about the dessert. I'm not sure where their chef is from but oh my God he shouldn't be wasted in this place. Plating was stunning, textures, flavours, temperatures it was literally a perfect dish. A frozen chocolate dome, a dense red velvet cake with freeze dried raspberries, a tart sorbet, soft mini meringues, a sweet coulis and fresh pomegranate. My friends doughnuts were soft and fluffy and filled with the most delicious curd surrounded by biscuit crumb, springs of mint and colourful florals. I don't generally expect good things from hotel restaurants but Spoonbill is an exception. Can't wait to go back and try more sweet treats
Beautiful fit out and high ceilings give this restaurant a spacious feel. Wooden tables and chairs, wicker light accessories and dark panelling add to the ambience. We ordered wines from a well thought out list along with sparkling water for our group. The meals were very much enjoyed- lamb, spaghettini, spatchcock and risotto as well as sides. We asked for more wine when mains arrived and enjoyed the sparkling very much. Service was unassuming and efficient. The meal was well priced and the place had a nice relaxed feel. Good for a date night.
I usually avoid hotel restaurants because they're never any good but I found Spoonbill to be an exception to the case. The food was the highlight. I had the orecchiette with broccolini, a weekday special they were kind enough to serve up for me on a weekend. Overall good. Service was a little inattentive.
MUST try their seafood paella and seafood pasta!
Also beautiful decor, friendly staff, and great service........will definitely return!
Nice large serving of some French Toast very gourmet. Happy with the service and the food. Would like to come back at night for the dinner as the bar is very well stocked!
Ok so by Melbourne standards this place is basic, nice bar and staff good drink selection but not really friendly. The chefs are very good had the beef and cooked really well, food is good nice for casual dining as they say. Wouldn't be rushing back but good if your in town over night and need a meal and drinks
This year I promised I’d give myself some more “me” time and take more frequent breaks from work and writing to recharge the batteries a little. Since working as a freelancer and having a mobile office, often the lines between work and personal space become blurred so I love any excuse to take a break from technology and reflect and re-energise.
Great coffee
Friendly service
Nice layout and location
We only had a long black and latte here; it was good. Smooth and creamy, not burnt.
3.5 Yums
Pretty good. There were only 2 staff but the service is good enough, not as bad as I thought according to the reviews. The food is worth a taste but a bit overpriced. Will come again for other dishes.
Best Paella ever.. I have eaten Paella on the streets of Madrid, but never as good as this. It was delicious, the service was good and very friendly, so give them another chance all of those who had a bad run. Maybe they have fixed up all their faults as my experience was 1st class. Try it again! 2-4-15.
Spoonbill is located on the northern end of Chapel Street and situated at the foot of The Olsen, a luxury boutique hotel. Upon a quick survey of the restaurants, it is evident that this is a place as suitable for a casual drink by the bar or a light dinner as it is for something a little more special.
Incredible Food. We racked up a pretty impressive bill however the food is to die for. Portion sizes are much larger than expected too! Best dishes were the seared scallops and the pork belly! I loved that it had an extensive menu for a hotel restaurant and it would cater to what anyone felt like eating.
Great food and wine, service a little hit and miss but gave us a good laugh with the people on the next table!
Top Spot. For a mid week dinner we rolled into Spoonbill and in short, we had a great night. The decor creates a good vibe with the exposed industrial ceiling and the huge cane centrepieces. The lighting was perfect but the music didn't quite match the scene. Hearing Miley Cyrus singing wrecking ball is not my idea of dinner music.
We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress and our drinks orders were taken. We scoured the menu that was full of super options including pork belly, lamb and big steaks. However it was the shared paella that took our fancy.
The wait for the meal was around 30 minutes. In the meantime we waited for what we thought was complimentary bread but it didn't arrive so we just settled on the main course. The paella was awesome. So much flavour and seafood including mussels, prawns, pippies, fish and calamari. The serve for two was very generous and it also came with bread.
We both were left satisfied and would return in a flash.

Had a great night after work. Excellent atmosphere and the Bar tender Giovanni is a credit to the Hotel. Full of life and hospitality, certainly a significant improvement from our last visit. Will certainly return!
Overall i enjoyed my dinner. the prawn entree though was woeful, just three overcooked prawns for $17. the pork belly though was fantastic, well cooked, but i think for $36 the portion size of the pork was a little small...
Lovely lunch. Seafood Tasting plate was yum $28 but made us too full to enjoy the mains. Lamb took 45mins to arrive - was warned and recommended to get tasting plate. Pork belly was yum. Portion was good. Lovely atmosphere. Waitress good and will be back.
Simple delicious food and delicious St Ali coffee. Had a nice chat with the cafe manager afterwards, really invests in the place and it shows. Definitely going back.
We came here for our anniversary and had made our booking via Redballoon. We chose the 6 course tasting menu and it is safe to say we were far from disappointed. The value for money is exceptional, food quality is fantastic. In a venue like that, especially eating 6 courses you expect to receive small servings. But we were astounded that the generous serving sizes. Service was great, staff were so attentive and friendly. You don't just come to spoonbill for dinner, you come for a food experience.
Went with my girlfriend for our anniversary. Had a 6 course share plate. Food was fantastic. Definitely recommend the paella. Excellent service and value for money. Will be back again
Fun and fresh. Spoonbill turned out a modern, fresh and delicous place. Service was attentive and generous- and food was all tasty, generous and well prepared (albeit the chef loves his chilli).. decor is very cool and relaxing for a large place. Excellent wine choices too. Recomend the tiger prawns and the zuccini flowers or one of the meal / share packages. they are good value... and you must try the poached pears!
Gr8 food and very attentive waiters good on ya guys,,, really happy customers
Delicious food, friendly and knowledgable staff who went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying our degustation experience. Will be going back soon.
The soft shell tempura crab is amazing! Love spoonbill will be back.
2 of us dined here last nite. Overall quite enjoyable & tasty food. A bit pricey when sides a on top of ur main. A little slow to take our drinks order to start with, so we put our entree & mains order in at the same time. The waitress did apologize for bring a little under staffed, but it was nothing drastic. We had the zucchini leaves for entree which were beautiful, for main my wife had the lamb cutlets which were nicely cooked & came with a plume radish. I had the tiger prawn linguine which ok, lacked a bit of flavor but it wasn't bad.
A must to order for a side is the pear & walnut salad which was very tasty & different. Overall a pleasant nite with the highlights being the zucchini leaves & pear salad.
