Review Red Pepper Indian Restaurant - Melbourne

Karen Edwards
Enjoyed a nice Thali here on a Thursday lunchtime. Our party of 10 were the only ones in here. We had pre ordered so didn't wait long for the food to arrive. Food was hot and tasty. The young guy waiting on the tables was very polite and helpful.

One of the tastiest Indian restaurants around Melbourne CBD. Spice levels are on point and serving size is decent. Tandoori rotis are soft , Butter chicken and Kadai paneer are tasty. Papdi chat is loaded with flavours.

Took some time to get our food. The paneer butter masala was too sweet tasting. The lacha parntha was nice but a bit hard to eat as it was too crumbly. They also forgot to give us serving spoons so had to wait while the food got cold. Space is nice for small groups- 3-4 people. Too cramped for large groups. Didn't get free papadams šŸ˜•

The food was very average. It didnā€™t taste like authentic Indian food. It tasted like pre-cooked frozen food from coles. The place is nice but the food is far from it. Dirty cup and random bits of food in our naan didnā€™t help.

I visited Red Pepper after a few years, and it's really gone downhill. The prices are very steep and in some cases make no sense at all (steamed rice is $4 a serve while cumin rice is $12?) Food took over 45 minutes to come, no acknowledgement from the staff. Even the cheapest Indian restaurants provide some pappadums to munch on while waiting, nothing here. When the food did come, the portion sizes were very small. We weren't full after it and ordered something else, which again took well over 30 minutes to come. Will not visit again.

Very nice restaurant, I was looking for a good quality Indian restaurant in Melbourne and this was highly recommended. The garlic naan was very soft and buttery, came quickly, and our other dishes soon followed thereafter. The fish curry was delicious, usually theyā€™re a hit or miss but I will definitely be re-visiting Red Pepper to try the rest of the menu!

Best food ever. Friendly, humble and beautiful staff. We got an opportunity to have a great conversation with chef (beautiful women passionate to serve delicious food to there customers). Nothing is like canned food or pre-made,she made everything herself. If you are craving for authentic Indian food must visit.

Food was ok but it took 2 hours for it to arrive. It was busy so we were happy to be patient but we didnā€™t end up eating our mains until about 9pm. Service was very poor but in fairness it was clear they were trying their best. We were also served dishes with dairy in them despite letting them know we had allergies. Probably wonā€™t be heading back here until management sorts things out.

Wonderful food - we shared main courses even though the entrees looked really good. The boneless chicken with a touch of mint excellent, and the bone in goat curry brilliant. The staff are really lovely and efficient. The space is pleasant and inviting. We were there on a Tuesday evening - I suggest you book as the restaurant is very popular with the Indian community. And best of all, extremely well priced for an extremely central location - just around corner from Parliament Station. Great night. Highly recommend

Very friendly and smiling staff when we reached it was very busy but still the staff was smiling and trying to help us , loved the food and the service hope I would recommend my friend to visit this place ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. All the good reviews that I have read about this place are true. The friendliness of the staff seems genuine. Staff was outstanding.. We highly recommend it...

It was such a nice place! I mean in terms of food. We went for dinner before the easter day at 8 o clock. It was damn crowded. Waited for over 30 mins to get a seat. The waitress was okay. But they were all over the place. They didnt have token for waiting and it was sorta random. But it was worth the wait, Unlike other indian restaurants who just make my tummy go bad for days, This one had real quality food. It took a lot of time to be delivered. but real delicious food!

Ordered a few dishes, one was butter chicken with the poultry not being cooked well. It was half raw and even when I asked to have it cooked well, I received a fresh serving of the same half cooked chicken. Other dishes were fairly average. Naan was good though!<br/>In the end I was charged for 2 butter chickens even though I had only ordered 1. Made the payment and then found out of the mistake! I got a refund of $17.0 even though I had paid $17.90

Authentic home style Indian with warm staff and amazingly hospitable owners. Excellent service with an Indian flare.

The food was amazing. Naan was soft and fluffy, saag was exquisite and the nimbu murgh was a unique refreshing change to the norm. The ambience and wait staff were friendly and helpful. A must visit place.

Great Indian at the top end of Bourke with a functional menu with the usual hits and some unique items. Efficient, friendly service. Highly recommended

On perfectly sunny day we went to this ā€œINDIANā€ restaurant with group of 4. At the reception we were told to wait for 2 min table cleaning is done. However, after 20 min another group of 4 of different ethnic group came. Surprisingly, all waiters surrounded them and gave them table. We were not even informed to wait and all waiters disappeared. May be i got frustrated so i gathered courage to ask why we were not given table even we were waiting since 20 min to which waiter replied that they had reservation without any apologetic gesture. We were eagerly waiting for table and could notice that they didnā€™t ask name from other group. And not even once they mentioned that they are waiting for any reservation or they wonā€™t be able to accomodate us. One thing was clear that we were taken granted as being INDIAN. We had to leave from that place to save us from making this situation more awkward for us.

It was my first visit to Red Pepper today with some friends from work. I was most impressed by the food selections and the politeness of the host. I will certainly go again and highly recommend the experience, service and food.

Very good service by Kiran and Harleen . Excellent food , will recommend to everyone to see this place once
Radhika Mhatre
We tried 2 veggies n roti and Naan, gulab jamun. Baingan panchforan was good but matar paneer sabji was tangy and highly average. Roti was good and soft, garlic naan had a kind of garlic paste on it which was a bit sticky and messy. Gulab jamun was good. Very slow service. Overall it was an average experience.

We came across this place randomly while walking past - we managed to get the last remaining table of 2. The service was friendly and efficient but what impressed us was the food - we had the 'basics' butter chicken and lamb roganjosh but they really did surprise in terms of the flavours and the freshness. Highly recommended and we will certainly be returning.

Extremely rude customer service<br/>Waited 30min before order was taken. No high chair was given despite requesting.<br/>When asked how long would it take for food to arrive given we had a hungry two year old, the shocking response was "there are only two of us here, you can see that"<br/>Obviously this made me quite unhappy and I politely requested some courtesy and the least she could do is apologize for the delay. No apology, instead, the words "do you want to order" Quite embarrassing as we had some overseas guests and I did not want to storm out so we ordered.<br/>Food arrived without plates or spoons, no water or glasses given despite requests. Plates arrived later and were dumped on the corner of the table for us to lay them ourselves and plates and cutlery were dripping wet.<br/>Given I have been visiting for years and ignored the slow service for good food but today was the worst experience ever.<br/>My calm manner was really tested today and I won't be returning. Food and cleanliness has deteriorated too. Guys, learn some politeness and etiquette.

This place ticks all the boxes for me for what I like to see in my Indian food experience - authentic curries, no-frills atmosphere and friendly staff. I have been a regular more recently - the quality and the service has lifted over time. Highly recommended

Most appalling and shocking customer service experience ever. Two of us went for lunch on our lunch break to Red Pepper today. Waited at the entrance for about good 10 mins, no staff to be seen on the floor. Had another couple waiting for longer than us walked away due to lack of acknowledgement, the least you would expect in a restaurant. After waiting for 10 mins we decided to look for a staff member to ask whether we can eat or not. Staff made some comments about how busy they were and told us that we donā€™t understand their situation, we were flabbergasted with that reply. (We are sorry for not understanding and not taking staff memberā€™s permission before coming). However, we asked if we could eat or not, the staff member replied yes we could but we will have to wait. We said ok and waited for another 10 mins. <br/>The same staff came back after 10 mins and started wiping bar glasses while we stood there right in front of her. Is that lack of training on the part of the management that the staff has absolutely no idea what their priorities should be or just lack of pure common sense? We being in shock already with this awful behavior had to again tell her if she could clear the dirty table and seat us first. To which thank God she agreed and seated us as reluctantly as she could and to our surprise got the menus. Wow wasnā€™t expecting that.<br/>Then again the memorable experience continued, no one came to take order for good 10 mins. We had to get up and grab another staff member to place an order. No complains about her, she was as helpful as she could be in that situation. <br/><br/>Expecting to be asked for drinks would have been asking for too much, that is not a part of service isnā€™t it, so we didnā€™t even bother and evidently they didnā€™t. While we waited for the food to arrive, there was another table who had similar experience started a conversation. We were sharing our delightful experiences with them, the staff who seated us initially went above and beyond and broke all the boundaries of exceptional customer service by asking us to keep quiet and said we could not talk about our experience because it was with regards to the service that she provided. We were now in a state of disbelief.<br/>We stayed there only because we were on a lunch break and already wasted so much time due to incompetent service and had no time left to go elsewhere and order. However, we decided to leave rather than eat after so much humiliation.<br/><br/>We also got to know that there is no manager ever on the floor. Iā€™m sure there is some management somewhere who should know how disrespectfully customers are treated at the your outlet. You clearly need to invest in training and to some staff probably teach basic manners like how to behave and talk. Canā€™t get simpler than that. Good Luck Red Pepper if you continue with such below poor quality customer service and such inefficient and beyond rude staff members. You lost 6 customers in half an hour right in front of us.

One of the best Indian restaurants that we love to go again and again. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious as always. Must visit!!

I have heard a lot about this place and got a chance to try eating at red pepper last night. <br/>I was little disappointed as the place was not really clean; to specify there was water on the floor and had sign with a caution to be careful because of wet floor was sitting next to spilled water but no one cleaned it. <br/>When serving staff cleaned the table for us, they simply wiped the food particles to floor. <br/>It was kinda strange.<br/><br/>We ordered food, service was quick and later ordered more naan n it took around 10-15 minutes for the second round of naan to be served. Salted lassi was like half the glass filled with salt and was not even able to take one sip.<br/><br/>I personally feel staff was under pressure as there was only three serving staff and they were just trying to look after all the customers and can understand what they were going through.<br/><br/>In the end the three stars that I have given is for the friendly staff and taste of food.

The waiting time is crazy here! I just visited here once and it took more than an hour for them to server food! I had to leave without eating as I had other commitments. Many of my friends visited too and they complained about the same thing. Seriously guys service time need to seriously improved.

Oh my god what a discovery!! A taste of home in the heart of Melbourne. Great selection of vegetarian dishes and nice drinks selection. My favourites are Saag, Daal and the breads. Highly recommended.

Good food! And beautiful service! I will recommend anyone to drop by and enjoy the meals

Always a wonderful place to visit, I absolutely love the food here ,it's pretty authentic, the must tries are Punjabi kadhi, Dal makhni, Gulab jamun and the aloo baingan(for the vegetarians) ,I wish they bought the pitcher of buttermilk option back, used to be wonderful...Also if they had the nuclear hot option for vegetarians as well.. I'm a spice food enthusiast and would love it, the ambience is wonderful , my only complaint is the wait time(which I understand given the rush and the demand) but it would be nice if that was taken care of

I have been meaning to try this place for a while and really glad I finally made it. The food is sensational and I cannot wait to be back. The service seems friendly and efficient. The ambience had a nice casual feel to it - great for an express meal or a lazy sit down. Highly recommended if you like your food tasty!

Pathetic customer service! We waited for over an hour during our lunch break for our food. I am ok with that, however we requested a small discount for taking so long and the girl serving us named Kiran refused and laughed it off. I have asked for the manager and she lied to me saying there is no manager or supervisor. She didnt care about our satisfaction at all. I wont be coming again. Very disappointed!

@ Friends, Sorry, very poor quality of food and service , time for predation was exceptionally too much, very shabby way of serving the food etc . I will never wish to go again.

It is our first time to dine in at Red Pepper and it is very authentic Indian cuisine for us. Overall, the experience was good but not what we expected.<br/>Food: we order chicken butter and palak peneers with gralic naans. For the chicken butter, the curry was buttery and flavourful but the chicken itself was little bit tough for us. The curry for palak peneers had some potential to be a great dish but we felt it was salty. Heavily garlic taste. Lastly, we were happy with the naans, good texture and balance flavours. However, with the proportions and quality of the food, it was not reflected the price of the food.<br/>Service: it was hit and miss as we asked staff for food and bill but they forgot about it. I assumed that they were busy. Besides that, the service was friendly. <br/>The place is well decorated, warm and welcoming. Perfect for casual dining.
Shruti Pathak
Had really good experience and friendly staff . I would love to go there with my family and friends.

We went on a Sunday night. The service was average, but the place was freezing! Being only 2 people, they wouldn't let us sit in the warmer area that was a four seater table as 'what if people of 4 come through the door' As f they couldn't join tables. FYI- no one came though the door after us<br/><br/>Above all though, the food was dismal. Being vegetarian, we ordered the paneer butter masala, which tasted like tomato puree and paneer and the kofta subji, which was as sweet as a dessert. I can't say much about non-veg food, but the vegetarian food was a disappointment.Ā <br/><br/>Cans safely say, we wont be back in a hurry.

Hello everybody!<br/><br/>If you've chosen this restaurant for lunch or dinner, you've probably heard great things about Indian food and this place. Well, adding my review to the joint, I'd like to say that this place really did justice to my expectations.<br/>I've been to other Indian food joints around CBD and this one so far has been my favorite ever since we visited.Ā <br/><br/>1. Our first experience was not longer than a month ago when we decided to go out for a good Indian dinner. Without much in mind, we sat in one corner and scanned the menu handed to us. We ordered for one Patiala Shahi Gosht, with 2 tandoori rotisĀ and garlic naan. We always like to order less first to decide if we need more later. To our surprise, the quantity of the curry was adequate enough to allow us more rotis.<br/><br/>2. The second visit wasn't much later. It was raining and we had an unplanned visit to the restaurant. This time, we ordered for Sarson da saag and Makke ki roti with tandoori rotis as well (I'm not much fond of maize rotis, hence the choice).Ā <br/>Honestly, it may not require a lot of effort in making Sarson da Saag, but what we ate in there was one of the best recipes I ever! It was deliciously made with just the right amount of spiciness (it has to be spicy - chili hot kinda spicy). Ā Also, I give a thumbs up to the Makke ki rotis as well.<br/><br/>Overall experience was great! Unfortunately, I have no pics to share because we went there during late evenings and the lighting is not photo-friendly. I clicked one, but that was a disaster.<br/><br/>So here is what I think:<br/>Food - 5/5<br/>Ambiance - 4/5<br/>Staff - 5/5<br/>Quantity - 5/5 (for the price)<br/><br/>Will definitely visit again for more!<br/><br/>Bon Appetite !

My favourite for Indian in Melbourne - the flavours are mouthwatering, service is friendly and the location is great. Gets busy at times but always worth the extra wait and effort. Highly recommended.
Linda Miller
Absolutely the best authentic Indian in Melbourne. Nice spice levels, efficient service with a smile and a lively atmosphere. There are a few different items to try on the menu so will keep returning for the hit!
NSB
Ridiculous waiting time, greedy mgmt, leading guests to wait despite no capacity in kitchen to cater to, student service, no water bottles, no glasses, low quantity of food, high priced, over hyped, Must Avoid!
Yume Yume
Seemingly very authentic curries. Not the most variety in presentation but thatā€™s ok because the taste was unbeatable. The eggplant and tomato curry, one of my favourites to order out, was the best Iā€™ve had. We also ordered the super hot curry and to no oneā€™s surprise it was extremely hot but an experience nonetheless. <br/>The vibe was super lowkey, Iā€™d be interested to see how dinner would be as we came for lunch and I think I will be back again soon lunch or dinner.

Loved the food, had an amazing time getting served by such a lovely staff Nirmala, her hospitality was amazing. All the dishes were extremely delicious. Loved coming back to this place because of the warmth and love we receive everytime. I would recommend this place to everyone šŸ˜Š

Great food BUT terrible customer service. Staff are friendly, but a bit hopeless, when you eventually get some attention. Yesterday we arrived at 12 and finally got our food after 1.20 - we werenā€™t allowed to sit until all the group had arrived. It took half an hour to take our order and get some water. This has been consistent over a few visits- sadly I wonā€™t be returning.

Good Indian cuisine restaurant at the heart of the city . Taste is very nice and staff is friendly. Soothing music adds extra value to the meal.

This place never disappoints. Got here around 5:30pm on a Friday and was seated straight away. It did fill quickly though and there was a wait for others after 6pm. The waiters were a total gem and were excellent food guides. The food and wine was brilliant.
Shekhar Kharel
Awesome food. Try. Recommended. Good number of wine and liquors available. Weekends are very busy. Try thalis in day time. Good atmosphere. Definitely going back.

Nirmala (host) was excellent and she went out of the way to give us the special customer service. She made us feel really comfortable on top of providing outstanding customer service. I would rate Red Pepper five-star just because of her. Having said that, food was equally good and truly authentic Indian food.

Perfect for some delicious dinner serving up Melbourne's hottest Indian! Good prices, and a nice range of dishes to choose from. The menu does change which is nice for a regular like me but they always have the go to favourites like the butter chicken, egg plant. They also have some really spicy dishes for those looking for the extra kick! Excellent locality and a casual smart ambience.

Fantastic Indian in a cool CBD location. Recommended by my all my Indian friends and I attest to the taste as someone who regularly travels to India. Warm and welcoming staff..a great all rounder

This place use to be a regular for me. Unfortunately the service of late has gotten worse, to the point of being outright rude and bordering on horrible.<br/>Last two times I've been there the wait staff were too engaged in their own conversation to attend to their patrons, when they finally did, the very little service they did give was abrupt and - I kid you not - confrontational. The food is always nice though, but not enough to put up with the very rude service. Plenty of places that make equally yummy Indian food.
Avery Michaelson
Red Pepper has fantastic, authentic Indian food, with very helpful and friendly wait staff!Ā  I've been here many times in my months of living in Melbourne.Ā  I am from New York, where we also have good Indian food, but I'm confident this is even better!Ā  Plus, I really like how clean and stylish the restaurant is - it is a great place to bring some friends.Ā  We even got to meet the owner of the restaurant one time, she is a very nice lady from India, who built this restaurant with the help of her daughter.Ā  It's a pleasure to get to eat at a great family-run place.Ā  I highly recommend Red Pepper!
Ayfer Huseyin
The WORST customer service EVER!!!<br/><br/>First they didn't have my reservation, so they offered us an already reserved table forĀ  a 90 minute seating. The the senior waitress became VERY aggress and rude when we asked for more time to order. She was so pushing and the customer service was disgusting. It got to the point where she was waiving her finger in my face. I have never experienced anything like it. If I had the option to rate this place a 0 star I would. The experience was so horrible it ended with us having to leave before even ordering. DO NOT EAT HERE!
Robin
My friend and I were looking for something good to eat after a good day out at the Stacks On Festival at Ceres Park. A quick check of Google Maps brought us here. We were pleased to see a group of Indian people eating there, we considered that a good recommendation. <br/><br/>Although it was about 11pm we were shown to a table and brought menus. Service was good and the food even better. My fish curry was absolutely delicious.

Four of us went to Red Pepper this evening and we really enjoyed it! Welcoming and friendly staff greeted us and provided very good service throughout the evening. The restaurant had a modern decor with a relaxed and comfortable ambience. The food was all very good. Thick, tasty gravy enveloped succulent and tender cuts of meat with authentic Indian flavours. The garlic naan was one of the best Iā€™ve had. Prices are reasonable ($180 for the four of us including a beer or cocktail each). We will definitely go back again.
LC
I generally donā€™t eat a lot of Indian food, so this place was chosen by my colleague who insisted we dine here for lunch. Wow! Amazing flavors in all the dishes we chose. Was super packed when we got here and luckily we booked beforehand! I will be back for sure!

My go to for Indian in Melbourne for delicious Indian with a pleasant decor, very accessible location and a good drinks and food menu. Highly recommended.

I rarely ever use Zomato to rate and review but I had to do it this time. The service was super slow and would take 15-20 mins between anything you say anything to the staff and the dish or drink coming to your table even when there was not a lot of people. Waited 20 mins for a naan and my food got cold by the time it came. The food itself wasn't anything great. The butter chciekn chicken was a at best a 6/10. Mutton roganjosh is a misss as well as the laccha parantha. Will never be coming back here ever again and will tell friends and family to do so as well.
Aisha Arora
I had Goat curry and naan and I must say it was elegant, subtle dish cooked with precision and a flair for flavour. I thoroughly loved the taste and this has now become a must have for every week. The staff and owner really are seen putting efforts to review the menu since could sense chance in ambience and it is much better now. Lovely people, lovely place and running a heart winning show.

I was here for the Dinner, The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very astonishing. The essence of Indian herbs and mouth watering garlic nan keeps you for wanting more and more. The curry which is served is especially the most delicious part of the meal. Mango lassi and gulab jamun for desserts are the essential ingredients which actually delights you and makes your day. What a way to spend good time with friends and family. Awesome guys, keep up the good work. You are making the world a wonderful place to live and eat in!! Best Wishes from Happy customer!!

People always write negative stuff about service. May be they havenā€™t worked in restaurant and itā€™s easy to point out others mistake. One thing I can challenge is this restaurant has the best Indian (not Aussie Indian ) food. Happy to pay anything for this taste and quality. Thanks to staff who work so hard on extremely hot Friday and serving us always with a smile.
Hiravarinder
The thing which brings me back to this restaurant over and over again is the authenticity of itā€™s Indian cuisine. The food was very delicious and staff were very friendly and courteous. They even made Little changes to their taste on customers request. Ambience is cosy and warm.

This place has a good location. Ambience was okay. The service was very slow and staff was also confused, food was good but nan was not that good. as compared to food quality the prices were not fair

Good place to enjoy india food. We have been there for dinner and able to manage sit outside ; although, it was great experience sitting in open. Food was good and they attended us very well. <br/>Just one thing I think they can work on it, they took longer time to serve food. Except this everything was good šŸ‘
Rabia Bux
This is my go to place for punjabi cuisine in the CBD. Their sarson saag and makki roti is on point. The hyderabadi biryani on Fridays is the best in the city. The place gets busy though and service is slow.
I'll Never Be Skinny
Have been coming here for 8 years and this place has the BEST Sarson da saag (mustard leaf curry) and Gobi paratha (cauliflower stuffed bread) šŸ¤¤ fresh & tasty<br/><br/>Doh, šŸ˜“ so sad they said they stopped selling the gobi paratha šŸ„ŗšŸ˜ hope they bring it back, as I now have 1/2 a reason to come here. And I literally bring EVeRYONE here!! šŸ™

Friendly and polite staff. Delicious food. I will recommend this restaurant to my other friends. We ordered palak paneer, malai kofta and garlic naan.

This is the best indian restaurant located in heart of Melbourne cbd. Donā€™t know where to start from, everything was just amazing and delightful. This is the place to enjoy the food.<br/> Let me start with food first. Best indian food i had so far. They have plenty of choices in both veg and non- veg. Authentic, tasty Butter chicken. Goat curry was the best . Must try their saag, kofta curry, lamb rogan josh and aloo baingan.everythig I have tried from their menu is delicious and yummy.<br/> Great ambiance with nice smooth jazz music. Feel like sitting in heaven. Even itā€™s crowded though.<br/> Last but not least. Service was very friendly from very wellcome to finish up the dessert. All the girls were well trained. Feel like this is going to be my second home. You guys are awesome . <br/>Highly recommend...

I went with my friend yesterday we tried the eggplant, the cheese with spinach pure, goat with curry and the vegetable fritter. The food was spice but nice . The only problem is me and my friends had a very bad pain in the stomach after we ate.. the food is a little expensive and I after this experience we are not come back unfortunately.
Gee
Decent but fairly pricey for what you get. Years ago, they used to have another restaurant next door called Green Pepper but thatā€™s long gone. The butter chicken was creamy but the portion size is ridiculous for the money. Damn good naan bread though.
Maurya Madalam
The staff are always very polite and friendly.<br/>You might have to wait longer around Fridays.<br/>They definitely have to include Biryani on the everyday menu.<br/><br/>Food is mostly delicious. Except Panner dishes can be cooked much better.
Hughie Masters
Great Indian food in a perfect location and a buzzing setting. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Recommend all vegetarian dishes or the usual butter chicken.

Excellent food with amazing hospitality...we enjoyed every single bite of our food!i would say this is the best Indian restaurant,i have seen in Melbourne in regards of food and hospitality<br/>Will definitely go there again and !again!

Went there last night with my family if 5 adults n 1kid and a toddler, totally impressed by their food, decor, ambiance great choice of music last but not least the great service. Waiting staff was very friendly and polite. The whole experience was just amazing. I hav had the best kulfi, saag, kadai paneer. Their daal makhani was the world's best daal. Felt like it served from mum's kitchen. God bless you guys. Doin very well. Will Definitely visit again with my colleagues..<br/>See u soon red pepper.....šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹

Absolute worse service and experience. I called in advance before arriving to ensure we were able to sit away from the bar. Upon arrival staff acted completely clueless and rude and told us they didnā€™t have a place for us to sit as their second hall isnā€™t ā€œreadyā€. However there were already people dining in their second hall so she basically lied. Their tolerance and ability to accomodate for people is non existent. They blatantly lied to my face and Iā€™ll never be back. Will be letting everyone I know about my horrible experience.

Called to check if we can sit away from the bar as Muslims and have a little one, after they confirmed that we can sit in the second haul. We came all the way and on arrival the girl was very rude, disrespectfull and claimed that they can't seat us as the other haul isn't opened yet, whichs such a big lie , there were two tables of people having their dinner . Shame on you anti Muslims, we don't want this racist crap in Australia .

amazing food, absolutely delicious!! just a shame the service was lacking, very inattentive staff, we didnā€™t get water or the starter menu until we asked a second time. Larger families looked like they waited an hour or longer to get in, our table of 2 got asked to move to accomodate the larger group as the waitress was bringing out our main. However in saying this, we would still come back for the food, we had the Aloo Papri Chat and Reshmi Chicken Tikka for starters and Butter Chicken with 1 serve of rice and garlic naan. All were so delicious but if youā€™re looking for a place with good service to go with top notch food this isnā€™t the place, but if you donā€™t mind below average service with good food, this is your place.

We were recommended this by our Uber driver so we thought we give it a go!<br/>Definitely did not disappoint. The Samosaā€™s were yummo. The naan bread was great just very garlicky so if you like garlic youā€™ll love it!<br/>And the butter chicken was awesome! Great flavours. Great friendly service

Find menu, exquisite food, lovely staff. Wonderful Parathas, sumptous curries, finest biryani in Australia. Indian food at its warmth best. Will always vibe back for more...

Average food and average service. I tried the butter chicken and it was nice.<br/>No split bills, we waited like 45 minutes until the food was finally delivered to our table

Garlic naan with butter chicken was yum! Quick service and polite staff.. however just a recommendation for owner to consider playing some music ;) overall good food.

I tried this place twice in a month hoping the second visit would be better. To start, itā€™s a decent Indian restaurant with variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian items listed on the menu. For the first visit I ordered Paneer item in starter and veg malai kofta with naan in main course. Paneer on the starter list was just if chef has added raw paneer in the sauce, malai kofta was mild and good in taste. Being desi, I wanted my food to be spicy and asked the staff if they can give me some chutney which was served with starter to which they refused. Had it been india, it would have been different experience and So my second visit just to clear the doubt in the air. Overall food is okay, nothing to expect much. Staff is not so welcoming and ambience is just decent. My experience- not worth the dollars spent.

Decent Indian joint in CBD but nothing mind blowing.<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>Cheese Naan ($7.00)<br/>Murgh Makhani (Butter chicken): Boneless chicken marinated & roasted in Tandoor, combined with a smooth gravy of creamed fresh tomatoes & cashews ($16.90)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>I think the butter chicken is okay - it's what you would expect and nothing more. Although the food was up to standard, if you have a craving for Indian this is an okay place to have it.<br/>I'm a little disappointed that their lunch variety option (as pictured in their banner) isn't available for dinner. The variety would've been entertaining and more interesting than the typical standard offerings.<br/><br/>It gets pretty packed on a Friday night. They may try to squeeze you in without a booking but they may also need you to clear the table asap!<br/>Service is honestly a little hard to grab and I wish it could've been more attentive. However, the decor is nice and the yellow lighting lends itself to an intimate atmosphere. Not ideal for those instagram photos though!

I remember coming to Red Pepper 5 years back when I was visiting Melbourne for a couple of days. And the taste of ā€œsarso saag & makke di rotiā€ got me back here after all these years last night. <br/>And I must say ... the quality and the taste hasnā€™t changed. <br/>Last night, We also ordered butter chicken and garlic naan. Everything .... Absolutely Yumm šŸ˜‹<br/><br/>Overall, Service is good, interiors are pretty well done and food is amazing. The only thing that could be better is the washroom. I hope they do something about it.

This was one of the biggest surprise ever! Husband had visited the restaurant 5-6 years ago and left the place after 1 hour of no service. This time however, him and I could not find a single reason to fault it. Food, service, flavour all in perfect place! Glad we went back and now definitely not stopping coming back. <br/><br/>Order: Kadhai Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Naan and Steamed Rice.

What a cozy and a gem of a place! The food is authentic in taste and very yum.. Unfortunately I forgotten the name of the food we ordered but it was the lamb and chicken dish. Food was slightly more spicier than what the spice level recommends but it was very delicious nonetheless.

I was craving for Gud Indian food.i got red pepper. Unique decor and atmosphere. Amazing service and excellent food. The whole experience from being seated to being taken care off to being fed was worth every penny spent. Highly recommended

Good time at Red Pepper, the setting had a nice calming & relaxing feeling to it, not the biggest fan of Indian food, so didnā€™t enjoy it as much as the spices were too much for me to handle, however definitely worth it for those in the city looking for good Indian.
