Card payments are only allowed for transactions above $12. Given that the majority of items cost below that, don’t forget to bring cash.
I love supporting family businesses and this is the quintessential Japanese sushi restaurant that meets that criteria. Loved the sushi rice bowl ($10.8). Wished there was more salmon - but I can’t fault the flavour of everything on my dish. The mushroom was especially delicious! Also ordered some sushi rolls for my partner. That met expectations. Love how affordable everything is here - explains the queue! Given that it’s smack next to David Jones, I’ll def be back!
Great lunch venue for something light or something more substantial. It’s always difficult to get a seat here so if you don’t want take away, get there by 12, or after 2pm. The food is fantastic and if you order something simple like a couple of sushi rolls and dine in, the slice up the rolls for you; something you don’t see that much anymore.
Ordered salmon&tuna mix chirashi zushi which came with rice, bed of salad, egg rolls and mushroom.
The highlight of this bowl is the sauce that they put on rice and salad, it some kind of mixture soy sauce and vinegar I guessed.
Salmon and tuna sashimi were pretty limited but can’t complain with the price that I paid for and it tasted okay.
Overall, i enjoyed my quick lunch here.

Popular place with long lines during lunch time . Many staff and quick service. Meals are very well and freshly made in a micro kitchen.
Chicken curry, bento and salmon sushi packs are patrons top picks.
A very affordable Japanese Eatery in the CBD. We decided to come for lunch and the queue was out the door! However it moved quickly. The sushi rolls are pretty good and very cheap too! The bowls are quite average but decent for the price you’re paying.
Sushi Monger is a great little Japanese shop located in the walk arcade between Bourke and little Collins street.. the Udon combo was pretty good which came with one bowl of beef udon soup with any sushi roll.. this place is always full people.. but I came in for a late lunch so the queue moved along quite fast.. although I knew that they are famous for their don and bento but I was cravings for a bowl of hot noodle soup in this cold winter weather so I gave the udon a go.. the salmon sushi tasted fresh, the udon was not too big, and the soup very light, however there wasn’t much meat inside.. but this combo definitely was enough to fill me up.. I would try their bento set next time which looked super good..
😱Lizzie’s first impression: Literally the cheapest sushi you can find in Melbourne. Never have I come here at lunch time and not had to line up to buy.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: The sushis here are fantastic - their most popular one is the spicy salmon which is amazing (for takeaway sushi). It is great quality for the cost and even their bento boxes are quite good.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy:
Don't expect the best service as their business model is all about churning sales of sushi over lunch time and not a dine in experience sort of place.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: great for takeaway sushi and a quick sushi fix.
I really like this place for cheap eats on the go before class. It’s fast, simple and yummy. Try the King Prawn roll and the Spicy Salmon.
You will always see a line of people queuing out of the place especially during lunch time.
I like that they also give you miso along with the rolls that help make the meal a lot nicer and yummier.
Got to this place for lunch upon the recommendation of a local friend of mine. An unbelievable crowd but the staff did incredibly well to manage it and send the queue fast. Got myself the oyako Don(spicy) and a teriyaki chicken handroll.
A really good deal for 12/= in the CBD. The oyako don is totally sufficient for 9.50,just being cash as they accept cards for only above 12. The sushi was quite alright, goes well with the pickled ginger on the side. The oyako Don is a gooey chicken covering steamed rice. Quite a filling dish and good value for money. It's open only 5 days for 5 hours, so they know to keep their customers on their heels! 😃
Good value if you want a quick lunch on your break, sushi is fresh and the rice is still warm, surpasses all the takeaway sushi joints in the city
Traditional Japanese in a small venue, but there is a reason they are busy. Get in early otherwise there is a line, worth the wait if you see a line. Great value.
The sushi is highly raved about and many come for their sushi for the great value and deals they have.
We recommend for you to try their chicken katsu curry- the chicken is nice and crispy, the curry is rich and aromatic and served with fluffy rice. We’re always left satisfied after consuming the dish and believe it’s one of the best dishes served at the Sushi Monger.
It’s best coming before the lunch rush as the queue can get quite long.
Will come back for:
+ 3 rolls + miso
These guys have got their balance spot on. This must be the best value sushi in town, and it comes with a piping hot miso soup to boot. The sushi is fresh and delicious, and service is quick and efficient. That is why there is always a line out the door. There are some sitting inside and outside, but it’s elbow to elbow stuff. A great spot for a good value lunch!
This is hands down the best hand roll sushi in Melbourne CBD. Their spicy salmon roll is amazing. No wonder there is always a long line every lunch time at this place. What’s better is that each roll is only $2.5. Cheap, quick, fresh and tastes amazing. It’s perfect for a quick lunch for everybody.

The absolute best no frills sushi in Melbourne. So tasty and so cheap! Queues everyday for lunch. Really worth lining up as the line moves quickly. Fantastic spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and tempura prawn rolls! My favourite sushi place in Melbourne!
Three rolls with miso for $7.50? Why not. The sushi are fresh. My favourites are lobster roll and spicy salmon roll. Just get ready for the long queue if you come between 12-1. I usually come either before 12 or after 2 to avoid the crowd.
I found the best salmon hand roll sushi in Melbourne!!! They are so fresh, i got to know that the take away soya sauce has darker color then the one they filled in the bottle, and the takeaway one tasted better lol...
I hope they can open on the weekend.
Hands down one of the best Katsu Curry I've had in Melbourne!
Can you believe for $10.80 you can get yourself a sumo bowl full of rice, curry and chicken katsu! The amount of rice in this bowl is indescribable, as there's just piles of rice in there, but the good thing about that is they don't cheapout on the curry! There's more than enough curry to coat the rice and the chicken! The chicken katsu is also very crispy and flavoursome, you just want more!
Give them a shot! They really are one of the best and they remind me of Japan!
I have wanted to try this place for a while, so what better time than during a busy weekday lunch with scores of people lining trying to get in? Ah well, we waited a while for our takeaway order but it was worth (at least once!) for the salmon chirashi that I got. It was fresh, simple, but still very tasty. Recommend!
I went to Sushi Monger the first time a few months ago, and I wondered why I didn't try them sooner. I've been to Sushi Monger close to 10 times now, and I must say they're much better than Tokui, as far as budget sushi rolls go.
Sushi rolls here are $2.5 each, but you can have combo deals like 2 rolls plus miso soup for $5.5 or 3 rolls plus miso soup for $7.5. My favourites are raw salmon and avocado rolls and spicy salmon rolls. The store is quite small, if you go around 12noon to 1.30pm the queue will be very long. But service has always been quick. I like it that when you eat in, they will cut up the sushi rolls for you - it might not sound like a big deal, but it's a nice touch. The sushi rolls have always been fresh and tasty.
Highly recommended for a quick, cheap lunch. Just a note: cash only, they have a sign saying EFTPOS available soon.
I went there last Friday for quick lunch
Their sushi is fantastic with reasonable price
The cashier is very kind and friendly.
It just made my day.
Keep it up.
Definitely coming back.
I called in here today after bookmarking this place some time ago. This place is hard to miss. The cue was sneaking out the door and down the laneway.
I wanted a bento box but I didn’t have time today. So I grabbed some some sushi and I was meant to get a miso soup. It wasn’t until I got back to my desk at work that I remembered my miso soup hahaha
Oh well maybe next time.
Both sushi were really fresh, tasty and yumm! What’s a great way to start the week. Visit this place!

A very popular Japanese restaurant that is located in the small lane. Always love to get their sushi and miso soup. Their sushi is the best that I can find in melbourne cbd. They have the best sushi, its just different from another shop. I also love to get their katsu bento. Their katsu bento is around $9 and its really worthed. You will get 1 big chicken katsu, salad, seaweed and spring rolls with sauces.
Had the large sushi box from the menu which consisted of five salmon, one tuna and one prawn nigiri and three slices of salmon and avocado rolls. The prawn nigiri was average (I say this because for me prawn nigiri just taste the same everywhere and the least exciting). For the tuna nigiri, the tuna was meaty but quite dry in texture; maybe it’s a bit too lean for me. The salmon nigiri was the highlight of the sushi box and I’m glad there were five pieces of them out of the seven nigiri. The salmon was not too thin or thick, and each one covered the rice completely with that extra bit of tail sticking out. They were so fresh and flavourful; soft and delicate. Lastly for the salmon rolls, the salmon went well with the creamy avocado and the nori was not chewy.
Overall the meal was fresh and tasty. The ratio of fish to rice for the nigiri was above standard; the rice was lightly seasoned with sweet vinegar rather than plain rice; and the wasabi had a kick to it and not overly pasty and hard.
Known for its cheap and fairly fresh sushi, sushi monger is a must visit if you want a cheap feed. Beware of the lines though during lunch but thankfully you do get served quite quickly.
Have wanted to try this place for quite a long time and got to try it today. The queue was really long but moved really fast because most of the people who were lining up were having takeaway. The sushi was good but not spectacular. But hey, give it a try!
K: Stowed away in the heart of Bourke Street in a little laneway called Causeway, Sushi monger was full with a line of hungry customers can upon trying this restaurant there was no surprises why. For a takeaway restaurant, their dine in situation was still adequate offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was expected of a chain like this however it is the food and sheer value that brings the customers.
$9.80 for an Udon and a salmon hand roll... I challenge you to find me a place that does any cheaper for how good it tastes. The sushi was definitely one of the best in Melbourne, worth the extra 50cents compared to Tokui and other cheap establishments. The Udon had a different kind of broth, more rich and had a mushroom and sort of sweeter taste which was very nice just unexpected. There is no surprises why there was a line even when I left due to how cheap yet delicious the food here is. Definitely a hidden gem in the heart of Melbourne.
Food: 4.5/5
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 5/5
Overall: 4/5
Amazing food and food a cheap price. The wait goes out the door during lunch but well worth the wait. Paid less than 10$ for a udon that comes with a sushi roll. Udon is well made and soft with a flavoursome soup. Katsu curry has a generous serce of rice and curry. The katsu is crispy and a decent size.
Lovely little Japanese place at the hidden alley in Bourke Street. Love the Katsudon as it was cooked in original style, no loads of Teriyaki sauces nor mayonaise that made it modern and weird. Classic but effective to satisfy authentic Japanese food cravings.
Yum yum and yum!!!! Cheap and amazing! So glad our friend put hubby and I onto this place! We can't wait to head back, just a shame they aren't open weekends
There's usually a queue here when you get to this place at lunch time but it moves extremely quickly as the staff there is so efficient. Get here before lunch hour starts if you would like a seat. Generally most people grab takeaway sushi rolls for their office lunch. What I love about the food here is the fresh sushi rolls.. sliced up on order to have with the generous amount of wasabi and ginger you can help yourself to at the tables. 3 rolls and a miso soup for $7.50. Due to the fast turnover, sushi is always super fresh and there are plenty of variety to choose from. My favourites are the raw salmon avocado and tempura prawn sushi.
The best sushi in Melbourne. No contest.
It's a bit like the Soup Nazi - stand to one side, and make sure you know what you're having before you get to the front of the line, otherwise you'll annoy both the staff and the other customers.
Went to Sushi Monger for a quick lunch catch up with a friend. We went at almost 1pm and the line went a good way down the little walkway it was in. I was really impressed by the efficiency as we only had to wait about 10 minutes to get inside and order. The Tempura Bento I got came with two prawn tempura and three mixed vegetable tempura. The prawn ones were delicious however, the vegetable ones seemed like they had been pre-fried as they were cold when served up. Great value for money, though probably more suitable for a take-away lunch rather than dine in.
wasn't too pleased with the service here because the staff here didn't look happy to serve my friend and i , especially the one who took my order at the cashier. however, the food tasted pretty good. the portion wasn't really big but it was enough for me :)
Tiny little place tucked in a lane way, with a line out the door for good reason! Fresh, well made sushi, fresh wasabi, great prices. Brilliant!
Good and cheap. Offers a range of sushi rolls ($5 for two rolls), udons and bento boxes. The bento boxes are filling and good value for money. If you go during weekday lunchtime there will be a queue; I tend to go before noon to avoid it. The place is very small (seats about 12 on the inside, 8 outside) so most people do takeaway.
Sushi done well - that's probably the best way to describe it. It can't really be called a hidden gem as the 20 people queuing outside is a dead giveaway. I always order the 3 rolls and miso soup - sushi is high-quality and on par with what you would get in Japan and streaks ahead of the stodgy stuff you get at the sushi chain stores.
Service reminds me a bit of Seinfeld's soup nazi due to the lack of space - go in, order, pay, move to the side and wait for it. However I am not there for butt-kissing service, I want sushi as it should be and it delivers that in spades.
Been here for a quick bite - the place is tiny so I would suggest takeaway options. Food is nice and it's great for a cheap lunch meal if you're not after anything too fancy. Friendly staff too!
Been coming to this place for over 3 years now and I still love the sushi here as much as the first I had them. The salmon and king prawn sushi are my favourites!
For Seinfeld fans, this place is the Soup Nazi equivalent for Sushi in Melbourne. Super fresh sushi that's super cheap. Downside - super long lines come 12:30 any weekday. Never fear, sushi lovers - the line moves quickly as sushi nazi suffers no fools. Order quickly and you'll be enjoying fresh, tasty sushi in no time (and your hip pocket will thank you for it).
Excellent, good service, cheap, delicious, and quite authentic I think. Relatively authentic at least. Some of the best Japanese in Melbourne. Wish they opened more though. For dinner.
Came to have lunch and was very interested when looking at the window of this restaurant as it has very good rating by tripadvisor. We were so eager to try so I came to make an order for the Temaki Ebi Fry Bento. The staff member assisting me was very friendly too. When I asked whether the sushi (as part of the bento) could be substituted with another sushi that has cooked filling, he told me to choose anything on the display with no extra charge. There are lots of variety to choose from and the prices of the sushi are very good value of money, they are not very expensive at all. To my surprise, the food I ordered was ready very quickly and my toddler daughter could satisfy her hunger soon afterwards.
One of the better sushi places, was a bit disappointed they had run out (or something along those lines) of the salmon sashimi box but the one I had was pretty good. I'll go back again to try the salmon one.
Would love it more if you could use card (cash only) and if it wasn't so squishy and you awkwardly stand in the way of people while you wait.
Went in on a Saturday afternoon,it was busy however we manage to get a seat. It's a small place and pretty cramped when it gets busy. I had the salmon and tuna chirashi while my friend ordered the sukiyaki bento. Service was quick and the food was tasty, the sashimi was very fresh. Prices are also very reasonable. Great place for good and cheap Japanese food.
This is my favourite place to go to for lunch. Opened during the day with a line of about 10-20 minutes for the entire day. Food is cheap and filling! Would definitely get the oyako don (not spicy). The way the egg blends in with the rice and chicken, it just works perfectly. It's not scrambled eggs either like how most places do definitely worth a feed for $9.50.
Amongst the best sushi rolls in the CBD. My favourite is the churashi sushi. The queue is long at lunch, but moves really quickly.
Really really good sushi, especially for the price tag! Usually wayyyyyy too crowded so avoid peak hours. Would definitely return for the amazing deals!
Hidden away between Bourke St and Little Collins, this gem of a place is a must. I usually never crave sushi, but this makes me want to eat it for lunch everyday.
$2.50 for each roll, but I can never bypass the Spicy Salmon Roll.
I love that they are happy to cut it into pieces for you. Don’t be lured away by the line, it moves quickly.
DEFINITELY A MUST!!
Fresh and cheap.
One of my favourite sushi joints. During lunchtime on weekdays there is always a line but it moves relatively quickly. Limited seating however there is a quick turnover. My favourite is the spicy salmon sushi.....mmm.
My favourite sushi in the CBD. $10 for 4 rolls and a miso (can never finish the last roll either). The long line is deceiving and moves very quickly. My favourite roll has to be the spicy salmon (prepare for the heat because it's the spiciest, spicy salmon roll I've ever had). Highly, highly recommend going here!
Super cheap, great quality sushi. Only $5.50 for two rolls and a miso! I have been meaning to review Sushi Monger for months and months, because it has become such a go-to for me on work days. I work in Bourke Street Mall and there is nothing else around nearly as tasty and affordable. I can never go past the salmon avocado and cooked tuna avocado rolls, they are consistently fresh and tasty and I love how they slice the rolls up for you when you're eating in. Lovely staff, and pretty cheap and cheerful furnishings but honestly its just such a charming place.
Super cheap and fresh sushi! I especially love the salmon one. Always a long line but takes no time to get the food. Best for a quick bite and do more shopping.
Found this hidden gem after craving Japanese for lunch! A colleague and I made our way down from Southbank to check this place out after trying a lot of the other Japanese places around the CBD.
The place is rated highly and at first glance we were unsure why as it was just a small venue with a few tables and what looked like a basic takeaway sushi takeaway shop however we quickly realised they were deserving of the rating due to the food quality, the price and portion sizes!
This is one of the best value-for-money Jap places around, the sushi rolls are only $2.50 and are prepared fresh on the spot including all sashimi!
We ordered a chicken katsu curry and rice and a chicken teriyaki bento box and dined in. Although it was busy, we managed to find a table. When the food came out, we were truly surprised with how big the meals were compared to other Japanese restaurants we had been to! These meals were so cheap and we definitely weren't expecting such large portions.
The katsu curry was great, a little spicy which also added a nice flavour kick to the dish and the chicken was cooked well. The bento box was also really good, the teriyaki serving was generous which accompanied the steamed rice, the salad and two fried sides.
Will definitely come back to try the sushi rolls next time!
Excellent sushi with high quality ingredients, you can taste the freshness of the salmon. 3 rolls with miso soup for $7.50 is a great lunch option, I struggled to choose from so many delicious varieties. Quick and tasty with efficient service. Can't wait to come back here for my next sushi fix.
Damnnnn...so cheap yet so satisfying sushi rolls!!! I'm so glad I found Sushi Monger. This is a truly Japanese hidden gem in the middle of Melbourne. The place is so small but the service and the food are always great. Their sushi rolls are different with other cheap rolls, the one here always taste fresh and yummy. I will always come here to satisfy my sushi rolls cravings.
Such a big queue here for lunch but a lot of people get takeaway so seating is relatively easy to find although it is quite a small store. The sushi rolls were in huge demand with an assortment of enticing fillings but decided to go with the chirashi bowl. This was simple yet all the ingredients were fresh and yummy. Although I ordered the tuna and salmon chirashi they only gave salmon, not complaining as salmon is amazing but would have loved to try some of the tuna too. Next time I guess though I would def try avoiding the lunch time rush hour if possible.
Tasty, cheap, fast. Convenient downtown location, small restaurant, fast food style, very busy. You may not be able to get a seat - get take out if you can. The salmon and tuna don was enjoyable and cheap (small portions), good for a quick and light lunch. Not a good place to have a leisurely lunch date.
I recommend this place if you are looking for quick, affordable sushi in the (downtown) CBD.
Hell, I don't need to write this review as there's already 100 odd reviews that will invariably all tell you the same thing. For lunchtime Japanese, this is the bomb, or as you amateur reviewers would say, "on point". Long long queues are justified, this place is fast fresh and the best sushi in town. And to add to the frivolity the chef is Korean and doesn't seem to speak a word of English. For those of you old enough to remember Seinfeld there is an element of the 'soup nazi' to him. Timing you're run to this establishment requires attention to detail- get there too late and you'll be standing in a long queue, get there too early and with a shake of the head this old timer will tell you the sushi / sashimi combo isn't ready for the day yet... Run the gauntlet people! Bento box, sushi sashimi combo or the teriyaki salmon/chicken are all great and won't let you down...
Fast food but health food. It is very busy during the lunch time. We queue up a few minutes, but it is worth to wait. The price is cheap. You also have many choices. My friends and I order Unagi don which is delicious. They gave us many pickled ginger and seaweeds all My favorite. I'm happy to enjoy my lunch here. I will come back.
The katsu curry! Yum! Tucked away in one of melbournes many alleys, this place a nice family run eatery vibe to it. They serve the whole range of Japanese food. It's a very small place . Not much place to sit and eat, but the food is so good the queue during lunch time goes out to little Collins street. Go early. The katsu curry hits all the right spots. Anything better is probably in Japan :-)
Located in quite lane among CBD, around various restaurants, Sushi Monger is one of the best Japanese style meal I' be ever been. Highly recommended. Good service and food with acceptable price.
Great value for money! Super fresh and tastes good. Best plain sushi in Melbourne CBD. Just make sure you get in before the lunch time rush(The queue goes a long way out the door and around the corner). $7.50 for 3 sushi rolls and Miso.
Love it!! Sushi was good. Even tho the queue was really looooong. But so far so good. Will pop by to see if the line any shorter from times to times.
Very fast, great flavour, good range and great value. A few vegan options. Don't be put off by the long line at lunchtime, it moves very fast. Lots to like about this place.
Fast, decently priced and of fair quality. Also, if you eat in you can have as much pickled ginger as you want. Worth noting: this place is crazy busy around lunch so maybe consider having your meal earlier or later than around 12.
Fresh, authentic Japanese food at a very reasonable price! This restaurant has been around for years and you'll always find a queue of people in the peak hours of lunch. Sushi Monger is the best place in Melbourne for a quick, casual lunch.
Very busy during lunch time but despite of the long line, they are very quick in taking and delivering the food. It's cheaper than other Japanese restaurant yet not bad in terms of the taste though. They have sushi rolls for, small salad, bento boxes that you can choose. They only accept cash so just be prepared if you want to go there.
Laneway eateries tend to be touristy and pricey, but this place is a local gem, with no spruiker required. Seating is limited and cramped with about 12 seats inside and a few tables outside. Queues form just before noon on weekdays but it's a short wait if you take away.
Cheap sushi rolls, bento boxes and rice bowls. Teriyaki chicken bento was perfect for early lunch. Tasty chicken with a generous serve of rice plus lettuce leaves, seaweed salad, veg fritter and mini spring roll. Bing junior gobbled his sushi rolls. There's a big container of pastel green coloured wasabi on the tables which I will try next time.
(Not a place to linger and gossip with friends, if you want to continue the chatter, head over to Laurent - if you can stand the rude staff there ;)
Not sure where the idea of $30 for 2 came from! We struggle to spend $15 for 2 for lunch here! My favourite is the 3 sushi rolls and a miso soup for $6.80 - I struggle to finish 3 rolls but I like them too much to just have 2! They are the most generous servings of filling in the sushi rolls I have seen anywhere and although the queue is long it moved quickly. I go as often as I can because it's the best sushi I've had and I am a sushi lover.
Don't enter this establishment seeing the high ratings and expecting sushi being prepared by a master Itamae, but for the price you can't complain for a light sushi lunch.
The staff are very efficient. The food has a burst of flavour, it is cheap in pricing and the portion size will be enough to satisfy. The only issue I had would be you're are shoulder to shoulder to the person beside you. Although if it's for a quick meal, you won't be disappointed. Pre warning to card users it's cash only.
Tucked in causeway walk between Bourke and Little Collins sushi monger dishes out good value lunch meals.
I can see why this place is so popular. Dishes are cheap, good portions and bloody delicious. I ordered katsu curry chicken which came with small side of salad. Chicken was fresh, crispy and the curry so flavoursome. Generous amount of curry and bigger than usual serve of rice was such a lovely sight for someone so hungry. All this goodness for less than 10 bucks!! I would pay more for such a tasty dish and still be satisfied.
Tip - be wary of the queue if you are coming here for a quick work lunch ( queue thankfully moves quite fast but good to be mindful).
Great price, fresh fish, speedy service, clean cutlery is a bonus! No wonder people queue up for this place. Not suitable for sit-in unless you just need a quick lunch/bite.
This place is fantastic. Stopped in for a quick lunch but was a bit concerned the long line would take up most of my time, no chance. The service is so quick that the line just keeps moving. Ordered teriyaki salmon donburi - sat down and by the time I had my mobile phone out the food was on the table. Perfectly cooked generous serving of salmon pieces sat on a pile of rice with a lick of sauce on the rice- simple food cooked beautifully, all for under $10 !!! This is going to become a regular lunch place - they offer great sushi options and the sashimi looked beautiful too - get yourself here immediately !
They serve delicious Japanese food. I've tried various types of dons and bento boxes, all good. Plus their sushi rolls are excellent, and the prices are low. The major issue with Sushi Monger is that, because there are way too many customers, so every time when I go and order a don or a box, I have to wait for more than 15 minutes, which is rather frustrating.
Supernice sushi and other Japanese food, and not expensive. Be prepared to queue though, it gets really busy at lunchtime.
Also, it's actually in The Causeway! I spent so much time walking around because of the wrong address.
Great and cheap sushi roll. Love their curry rice and 3 rolls with miso. Is great. Delicious. Fast service. But the service is abit bad.....
Food was definitely cheap, fresh and very nice, service was simple and fast, definitely a must try if in the area.
At first i doubt that it would be nice as the owner n all worker was all korean, not japanese but boy i was wrong!
Try their chirashi, and devour the succulent taste of the pickled shitaki mushroom with all the other ingredients that made it perfect, so far the best chirashi ive tasted in Melbourne.
Dont come during lunch hour as you might not get any seat, as it is typical resto in alley, the seats inside is packed and very tight.
3 sushi rolls and a miso soup for $6.80. The line was about 10-15 people long when I got there at round 1.15pm. I got the salmon, spicy salmon and lobster. All were very good for sushi rolls. Would definitely come back again when they are open and try their dons.
This is one the best deals in town. Fresh sushi for very low prices. It's mostly a take away place, but they do it nicely. I ordered the large platter and to my surprise they were all fresh, thick cut nigiris as opposed to the rubbery rolls you find on these restaurants. I also ordered an unagi don and a spicy salmon roll that were both delicious.
Probably the best Japanese lunch I've ever had in Melbourne though I've been here for just 2 weeks. We were wandering around the CBD and spotted the sushi monger.
If you go there 5 minutes after 12pm there is a queue to the next lane. This place has some good value food and the sushi us absolutely amazing. Eat in is not an option if you are not early enough but take away is a great option. Love it and it's a regular lunch stop
Great tasty sushi, dons and bento boxes at a competitive price. Best sushi i've had in the cbd. Do go early though otherwise you will need to wait in line. There is minimal seating however so can be a bit inconvenient at times.
Best sushi place in Melbourne by far! The sushi is always so fresh, cheap and delicious. It is definitely worth the wait in the line at lunch.
Reasonable price and sushi taste pretty good. Also, you can get your food within minutes.
During lunch time, it gets really crowded, so get there before 12.
One of Melbourne’s most popular sushi and bento lunch spot. Normally this place has a line well outside the door however today it was raining so I had the chance to stop and check it out.
Great selection of different sushi as well as bento boxes. All served fresh and tasty.
This is a simple affair. Small eating area and you’ll have to squeeze to get past people.
That said for $10 for a bento lunch you can’t go wrong. Highly recommended. Get in early and you’re wait should not be long.
Simple tasty and healthy food. Not made complicated with many twists and can be had frequently.
Very well priced and going by the turnover in this place I strongly believe everything is ultra fresh.
Can get busy during lunch times and small seating arrangements make take away one of best options.
My favourite place to eat during my lunch break. The combos with Miso are very worth it's price and the salmon is so fresh. Sadly they're closed on weekends.
Great sushi and Japanese food for low prices. Staff are fast and efficient, lines always look long but they are fast to get through the lines. Best if you take away as there is limited seating.
Good for a quick lunch. The bento boxes are flavorful and good value for money. Sometimes staff is rude - depends tho! Either way FOOD IS GOOD!!
