I had dinner with a friend at Degraves Espresso last night and it blew me away. They offer three tapas plates for $39 or you can buy individual dishes for usually between $10 and $15.
We had the patatas bravas, the fried eggplant, chorizo, pork belly, chicken skewers and the meatballs. The fried eggplant was nothing special but not offensive. Every other dish was outstanding. The meatballs and pork belly were moist. The chorizo was perfectly cooked - just a little burnt. The patatas bravas were moist and bursting with flavour. The chicken skewers were tasty on their own (and not at all dry, as chicken skewers can be), but they came with a little dipping sauce that complimented them perfectly.
The wine was reasonably priced and there was a large selection.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
I am a big tapas fan and was very impressed by Degraves Espresso. I will be back and will be recommending it to anyone that will listen.

So today’s request for a strong almond milk latte was spot on. My coffee was strong, creamy and had a very smooth after taste. A real winner in the coffee stakes and a great kick start for my Friday morning.

Had drinks and some nibbles here. Decided to have the Chicken Rissotto which was amazing and glad we had that. Place is perfect for a coffee. Love the buzz this area has in general. Plenty of distractions for kids too 🤛🏾✊🤟

Robust coffee and truly one of the best I’ve tasted. Coffee may be prevalent in Melbourne but this is a cup above the rest. Service was efficient and very friendly.

Best cafe on the street!

I've been going here for 5yrs+. Coffee is fantastic and prices fair.

highly recommend the vegetarian panini or the green eggs. late breakfast on the weekend is the best

If you are in Melbourne for only 1 night make sure you get breakkie here.

This is the perfect spot for a Sunday Brunch with awesome vibes. The eggs benny is on point! And you can't go past a Lattee. The service can be a little inconsistent and leaves alittle bit to be disered sometimes but sometimes it's amazing!

But one inconvenience is it's cash only and no split bills.....

Overall great spot for a relaxed brunch option 👍👍

Came here last night with a friend last night and had a few glasses of wine and shared 3 tapas for $34. Very good customer service, they even took my phone behind the counter and charged it for me. Food came out quickly too.

The food was tasty, servings were reasonable, good value for money if you want to share a light dinner with a friend. Got the dips with the bread, could have used bigger servings of dips as it was served with quite a lot of bread, however the bread was very moreish which made up for it. Also got the goats cheese and salsa topped bread, very fresh but could have used more goats cheese. Lastly, we choose the paprika potatoes, which were surprisingly delicious. Very generous with the wine servings and reasonably priced. Would recommend!!

In Degraves St, espresso's friendly staff served patatas bravas; not bad ✌🏻️
Movie theatre style seats with menu printed all over the walls. Liked the feel of it 🙌🏻

Brekkie is a hit with perfect Latte. Updating my rating to 4 just for the coffee and bang on poached eggs.

LIKED it! Degraves is a must-visit when you're in Melbourne. We arrived around 10AM ish and couldn't get a seat inside as it was packed. The outdoor seats were wet (it was drizzling) and not the most comfortable ones - especially if you bring small kids - but the food (big breakfast and french toast) and strong flat whites made up for it.
Would definitely come back.

Degraves is quite a happening lane-way in Melbourne. The lane-way is worth a visit and you can get a good coffee at Degravees Espresso. Food is good too, try and get in just before midday to avoid the lunch rush.

Good quality, hearty, homemade breakfast. The pork and fennel sausage as well as the baked beans are a must-try. Attentive staff, quick service and delicious food. Great place for breakfast in the CBD.

I was passing by Degraves Street & the strong fragrance of coffee made me stop & look at this place. It was a cold Saturday but the place was full of customers & there was a waiting period. I ordered a flat white for takeaway & was very impressed by it. The beans were rich & flavor full but the milk could have been a little hotter given the cold day. I like my coffee with hot milk & not just warm since drinking it all in 2 minutes doesn't really make much sense.

Definitely going back to try their food & also ask them about the beans they use! Would surely like to buy the beans if available for selling.

Absolutely top notch BLT with a delicious relish, avo & rocket on a panini. The menu is not extensive but what it does, it does well. Good coffee too & it was the perfect spot to meet work mates before a training event. The bacon was crispy without me even asking!

We went here one Sunday morning for coffee which was fantastic and the service was very prompt. The only downside is that which tables are theirs is quite confusing but the street has aN awesome atmosphere. Everything else was on point though.

Went here for a quick bite. They didnt have many choices of cake so we ordered the potato tapas, fried potatoes in tomato sauces. Which i find quite nice but i wish it could be a little bit spicy. Cappucino were good. The place looks abit vintage, gloomy and were abit warm inside. Not bad.

3xTapas for $32 pretty good deal. Prawns are spicy as the best, then eggplants, calameres... Meet balls, potato salad all good. Worth the money and service is warm, helpful and timely.

We have been here twice now. We really like it. They have a good 3 tapas for $32 option or any of the items can be ordered individual. They also have a nice selection of mains. Tonight we shared the spaghetti but it wasn't 'spaghetti.' (Sorry, little bit of a food snob.) We ordered poorly and had all salty dishes which was our fault, not holding that against the kitchen at all. Gotta love the atmosphere and funky seating options.

Funky interior - feels like an old school room (I'm guessing they're train seats?). The decor is grungy chic and you feel relaxed just walking in.

The staff are suitably inked and pierced to ensure a consistent theme with the decor and it works. They're friendly and helpful as well as efficient and knowledgable.

The food is tasty and even a couple of tapas plates shared is going to fill you up. A quiet cold one whilst watching the foot traffic (homeless people included) makes for a quiet evening.

Coffee, coffee, coffee...Melbourne is renowned for its coffee sourcing, roasting, brewing and the ever elusive perfect bean. Being a barista is serious business and coffee drinkers will let cafes know if their daily coffee is not the same quality they have come to expect.

Degraves Espresso are no less serious in their coffee making but the staff perhaps take themselves a little less seriously. They have found a happy medium where they care explicitly about your experience and delight in their coffee but they have an affable irreverence with customers who complain or are too impatient and have the audacity to make this sentiment known publicly. They are after all young and cool and working in famous Degraves streets European influenced coffee and cafe stretch. The morning jaunt for black clad commuters, on their way to their corporate jobs, flowing out from iconic Flinders street station towards Collins street and the inner CBD trams.

I don't travel well on public transport and usually arrived at Degraves Espresso with a look of need plastered across my face, awkwardly moving between the tables, tentatively navigating my many layers of scarf, wool coat and gloves. "Coffee, soy, small, a croissant", I manage through my cold lips- then, remembering my manners- I offer up a quick smile and mumble a sheepish, "Good morning", to the broadly smiling waiter. I am always greeted as though the staff have been waiting for the moment I will walk in the door. This friendliness was especially warming to a Queenslander struggling with the coldest Melbourne winter in twenty years that even locals were feeling its bite.

The coffee at Degraves is consistently good and the croissants are fresh. Unfortunately, I never had the time to try a sit down breakfast as I was always doing the frantic morning Melbourne strut with my iPad at the ready on my way to the Paris end of Collins street for a day in the life of corporate Nancy.

The cafe has a distinctly 50's retro vibe to the decor and artwork with peeling paint and cracks in the chairs while the waiters are dressed for comfort and warmth. If you want to brave the cold you can sit in the middle of the street at little tables with metal chairs and outside heaters to take the edge off the chill of a Melbourne winter.

Standouts- Coffee, Service with a smile and a laugh + a Dash of irreverence.

Strongest coffee I've had in my entire life. Drank it and walked around Melbourne like I was high. I've had Hawaiian coffee before and it has a similar rich, oily potency. If I lived there I'd drink it daily and I suspect my productivity in life would increase considerably. Powerful brew. I'll be back.

I’ve only ever purchased coffee’s here, (or had them purchased for me!) so i can only shed some light on the caffeine intake that i’ve experienced. And I’m telling you, it’s good. The one difference between the coffee i order & what you may order is, i’m a bit of a ‘soy milk’ type of person. It’s not because the apparent cool people aka hipsters of Melbourne sip it & i want in on that little clique’, it’s purely because i got sick & soy was the only good replacement for dairy.

Very flavoursome, however I'm not a huge fan of the uber lemony sauce. It was nice to try something new, but I prefer a thicker, creamier sauce.

Recently I paid a long overdue visit to Degraves Espresso. This place has been a favourite of mine since back in high school when we would sit outside and pretend to drink coffee. 7 years later, the coffee is still excellent. The service ranges from ok to fabulous, but I still think it's worth it. This cafe is known to my friends and I as "Bad News Cafe": not through any faults of its own, but because bad things seem to happen around it. So if you find yourself suddenly and unceremoniously single, this is your place. In fact, call me and I will come and buy you a piece of cake.

Degraves Espresso is an iconic cafe in an iconic precinct on Degraves Street. It's a cafe many Melburnians know and have been to and enjoy. This cafe is in the heart of Degraves and is a place to be seen with an air of chic and coolness. Joining the long line to get a coffee on the weekend was an experience. Such an eclectic line of bohemians. Coming here is an occasion.
The coffee matches the ambience and is seriously good. The barista is also quick and served a long line of people in no time without sacrifice to the coffee.

Ahh Melbourne … you’ve gotta love it. A certain Sydney urbanite is feeling pangs of envy. Envy of the dynamic little cafe’s where you’re almost guaranteed a perfect coffee. One iconic place that shines over many is located in that umbrella-strewn laneway

I have been going to Degraves Espresso Bar for I think over 20 years, and it's taken me this long to sit down and finally 5 star it. From taking rather attractive ladies there when I was a fine young strapping lad in my 20's; to taking my clients there today as an ageing family guy, it's a top spot. Really nice good, top location and I have strong feels for the great place. LOVE THEIR WORK!

It is a bar and a cafe. Prices are good and I chose something simple for a quick breakfast. I had coffee and toast. Both were good, although my toast came with spreads in packets and the butter was a bit too hard.

Great outdoor dinning area at Flinders Lane. While the lamb ragu is absolutely delicious, the tapas are only okay, nothing particularly outstanding. Especially not a big fan of the prawns, taste very bland. Services are friendly though.
