Went there with four with my Indonesian friends after watching the exhibition of teamLab. The exhibition was too small but the food is such a great healing experience !! The waiter was friendly and the atmosphere is great for friends reunions!!
Came here with a group of friends for a Korean feast and we left satisfied with our meal.
We tried a variety of dishes - fried chicken, kimchi pancake, spicy chicken, bulgogi, tofu salad, bibimbap, and kimchi hot pot. Everything was pretty decent. The fried chicken, bulgogi and pancake were the table favourites! I
The food is moderately priced, but I think you can find cheaper Korean food that tastes just as good or even better in the CBD.
Cozy & warm atmosphere, friendly and quick staff. Came here for a quick bite and decided to try the spicy pork.
The "spicy" pork wasn't that spicy but the serving was quite generous. Maybe a bit too sweet but you get loads of pork! Not bad but also not great. Might come back to try more!
I love Korean BBQ, so I've been to quite a number of places. It has happened so often that it becomes the norm or the standard, for the staff to be attentive, but sometimes dismissive and borderline rude. White tomato is different. The staff were very friendly (even though we were late for our booking), attentive and we felt like they were genuinely happy to help us! They cooked it for us too so i liced it. The food were averagely priced and tasted good. Be sure to get the beef tartar. I'll come back for sure.
We almost didn’t eat here because every time we walked past there was a massive queue. However luckily we managed to get a table one day and the food was amazing! We got fried chicken and beef bulgogi. Generous portions, tasty, good price and cooked to perfection. I cannot rave more about this place. Highly recommended.
White Tomato has been around for quite awhile, boasting high ceilings and looping through some quality K-pop. Whilst I've never been here for dinner/KBBQ their lunches are of great value. For $12.50 you can pick your main and get a choice of either a miso soup or a salad (with a takoyaki ball). A small portion of pungent kimchi was also provided.
I get their spicy pork which came on a sizzling plate accompanied with some black rice. It was spicy and I started to sweat profusely (I'm starting to sweat thinking about it) but was addictive at the same time. Portion-wise they gave more pork/vegetables than rice.
My friend's bibimbap looked good with the raw egg. Would love to return to try their KFC and KBBQ one day.
Incredible spread, highly attentive staff, great selection, lovely sides included in set. Beef was a little bit chewy but flavours were delicious!
My most favorite Korean bbq restaurants! The staff is very helpfull, and the place is so cozy. Always have a good time dining here. They have many selections on cocktails as well.
I have never had Korean food before however this was quite the experience!
They have a Korean BBQ menu and an a la carte menu too. We ordered lots and lots but I ordered for myself a beef bulgogi which was sooo tasty!
The food was well priced for what you got and I really enjoyed my meal!
Came here for lunch we ordered the fried chicken, the mixed set bbq and 2 rice wine cocktails.
Fried chicken : amazing so juicy and crispy my favourite by far!
Mixed set : we got pork belly, scotch fillet and soy chicken. Scotch fillet was delicious so juicy.
We did ask if we could swap the bimbap for another egg soup however were told this was not an option, a bit disappointed as the egg soup is delicious.
Cocktails : peach and strawberry cocktails both delicious.
Excited to go back :)
I have not been here for a while.
My friend took me there a couple years ago.
They food was great, clean and service was great!
Worth to try guys!
White Tomato holds a very special meaning for the both of us because that’s where we were able to meet each other haha... (is that TMI?) So we decided to return a year later. We ordered the japchae, honey soy fried chicken and spicy galbijjim. Not one dish disappointed us. Every dish complemented each other. The staff were also very friendly and attentive at White Tomato. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a Korean restaurant to dine in!
great and plentiful side dishes were available with the side dish. service was very prompt and our waitress we very attentive to us! the price was very reasonable for the bbq set we had.
I booked the place though the app, for a 8 person group. All went smoothly and the food was great. I ordered the bibimbap, as in the picture. Will definitely come back!
Best of Kimchi soup!!
Ordered:
(Highlights) Stone bi-bim-bap (as part of the bbq set)
Kimchi soup (v) small pot: kimchi, pork tofu with spicy soup ($15.90)
Corn cheese
Review:
This is my second time coming back, and I really have to let you know about this corn cheese dish.
White tomato adds a smattering of tomato, onion, capsicum, and herbs which somehow gives the this plain corn cheese dish a fragrance of pizza?!
It blew my mind and would definitely recommend White Tomato for uni students who (not just those who want Corn cheese) want decent amount of quality food at an affordable price.
Real rating 3.7 ⭐️
We had visited White Tomato for dinner and it was a pleasant experience.
Stone bibimbap - this bowl had a good mix of flavors which complemented each other. Some bibimbap are over the top where there are more veggies than there should be!
Grilled pork belly - as the name suggests, this dish is pretty much grilled pork belly served on top of lettuce with salad! Not the prettiest but it was quite delicious - pork belly was grilled pretty well and the salad was not too bad with its dressing!
Deep fried chicken (half) - we had ordered the soy flavor and it was pretty good! The fried chicken was crispy and juicy and the sauce was sweet and a little nutty and garlicky which made it stand out to other Korean fried chicken places!
Overall, White Tomato is a good place to catch up with friends and have a good time which we did!
Nice place to go eat with people who enjoy Korean food. The whole chicken is much nicer than the half chicken because it's boneless and bones suck!!
Nicely decorated restaurant with attentive staff. My all time favourite place for korean bbq in Melbourne. Their marinated beef ribs and ox tongue are really yummy. They also offer various complimentary dishes and the cheese corn is a highlight. Price is affordable and you don't have to wait to get a table.
Great korrean barbecue joint! The kimchi pancakes were one of the best I have ever had and on top of all it was BYO.
The look and feel of the place also gives it a different edge to the usual korrean barbecue places around the city.
I have heard good and bad reviews from this place so I had to check it out to see for myself. The food was relatively cheap hence why the quality of the meats were average. I really did enjoy the kimchi cheese pancake because it’s different from all the other restaurants and it’s also crispy. The fried chicken was really delicious. The batter was light and crispy which was enjoyable. Service was attentive and friendly.
Had a bbq set and it was very generous for two people and the staff brought it out quickly and cooked it in front of us. I enjoy doing my own bbq but the staff were too quick! I wished we had more of the sauces though as the portion was quite small. I also liked that the bibimbap had a raw egg yolk to coat the rice and vegetables. My partner that normally didn’t like Korean bbq really enjoyed it so we will be back!
A great place with delicious food and friendly staff. The prices are reasonable. Recommended to select the set menu. I will be perfect if their are a lot more selection for set menu. Love to come back again and again
Booked for 6:30 on Saturday, arrived slightly early and we were seated straight away.
Staff made an effort to explain the menu and were very polite.
We shared the BBQ set menu between 2 and it was more than enough food. The beef bulgogi and soy chicken were great, don’t recommend the squid as it was plain.
Will come back!
Spicy chicken and pork belly were pretty good. The BBQ set menu had more than enough for two people. Service was decent enough for a busy Friday night.
Went there on a Sunday for lunch. They're not really that busy but it may be due to the fact that it was mothers day (?) and I suppose not many mums would want bbq for lunch 😂
Ordered a mix set - really liked the beef, the pork was ok but you are made to order a seafood, don't choose the prawns - not worth it. I wish they would let me order another beef dish instead.
I really like the little side dishes it comes with, especially cheesy corn and steamed egg soup! Sooo yum!
I wasn't sure if it was enough so we ordered kimichi pancake on top.
That was way more than enough for 4 people! We pretty much rolled out of there.
I had a great time here, but I also love a different dining experience. With the hot plate and food brought to your table and cooked for you by the staff, it does add something a little different to the experience. The food is good, but not super amazing.. as it's literally being cooked by a staff member in front of you.. it's more about the experience and the fun of it all than eating amazing food.
Always love eating here. Fantastic choice of food. Great staff, but they are getting a little expensive. Great food but not a cheap eat place. Definately worth a visit
I ordered the set but I forgot which one, but i love it soo muchh...and this is one of the best korean bbq so far. The marinated meat is sooo good. The bibbimbap is pretty good too, but not the cold noodle. They give salad included on the set and the dressing was delicious.
Love this place! have been a regular for a year now. Always consistent with their tremendous service, excellent food and great atmosphere. If you're looking for a place to impress your peers. This is the place to take them!
I’ve been to plenty of kbqq places and have decided that this is one of the best places for kbqq! I don’t mind their lack of customer service. The set menu is more than enough for two people and it’s so damn good. Will be back soon.
Quite a rare find KBarb place in Melbourne. Between the group of six, we got two sets of kbbq and a cheesy kimchi pancake and we all left the restaurant with full stomaches. It came to about 140 dollars for six people too so I reckon the price is decent for those Meeeeetz! Side dishes were eye opening, it had watermelons, pickles, macaronis and kimchi (ofc!). Each set came out with even more sides like bibimbap and salads🤤 one minus could be that there were no buzzer so it wasn't so easy to get the staffs attentions but they were always on time to help us with cooking those meats and all so I'm😁
I would recommend this place to my friends for kbbq in future 😊 Thanks White Tomato!
Very yummy of all dishes and the service is always efficient. I really like the seafood pancake and seafood hot pot. Must try yourself and you can enjoy it.
Love it. Good food and the price is affordable, not sure why there are so many neg reviews really the place is great. However it can quite hot especially in the summer since many people use the BBQ's.
Nice place to have a meal with friends. We ordered spicy seafood hot pot, which is spicy and delicious. It has mussels, squid, prawn and noodles. The noodles are yummy and tasty. The proportion of hot pot is quite big.
This was my first experience with Korean food and I must say it was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly and presented well. Lot of food and drinks options available.
Went here with a group of friend on a Friday night and the food was quite good. Had fried chicken and bbq. The quality and flavour was ok, but maybe not one of the best is Melbourne
We come here for the soups and stews, not the Korean barbecue. The food is very flavourful (the Sam Gye Tang is great) and wholesome. The endless stream of side dishes is also very welcome though more variety would be good.
The ambience is great, the space is surprisingly interesting (look up at the ceiling!) - definitely a hidden gem.
Easy to locate. We ordered dishes instead of BBQ. The kimchi fried rice in creamy sauce is surprisingly tasty, spicy cheese chicken was also a good choice. The grilled pork belly in salad as an appetizer came at the very late and we were almost full, pork belly was a little tough. Good service.
Had dinner here with Joanne and we ordered the zzambbong gyoongal-spicy seafood hotpot to share. It was so delicious and perfect when the weather so freezing on that day. The portion is very generous and the both of us had trouble finishing the whole buuttt we did it! I wouldn't mine coming back to try the other Korean dishes they offer.
My boyfriend and I went to White Tomato on 20th August 2017. The bbq set was very filling and tasted great. Corn cheese was nice, beef was delicious, chicken was good, pork wasn't very spicy, salad was great. A bit disappointed in the bibimbap. I just wished there was better ventilation because the restaurant became very smokey. Other than that they were generous with the sides. We received great customer service and we did appreciate Ji Won constantly going out of her way to help everybody upstairs. She worked really hard considering there wasn’t many staff to help her. Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work. We’ll see you again soon.
I went here with my friend months ago and it was amazing. The customer service was spot on and they were so lovely that I didn't want to leave. We ordered Korean BBQ and it was delicious. There was so much food we ended up struggling to finish it all haha. Would go again and its priced perfectly for what you recieve.
I enjoyed my experience here. The staff are lovely and attentive. Food came out quickly for the BBQ and the portions are good. I love the pork belly. Very pleasant dining experience. The corn cheese was yummy.
Kimchi stew is soooo yummy 😍
Pancake is also so good, the sauce is so good !
The only downside is that its pricey! and the resturant is noisey (pop music/ ppl chatting)
A fun and lively space which is paired with really tasty food. The staff are also really friendly and very accomodating.
I'd definitely recommend doing a BBQ set and maybe ordering a starter or two. But to be honest the BBQ set itself is great value for money and is seriously filling. You get an array of starters included and a number or accompaniments to go along with the bbq'd meats. Aswell a bim bim bap bowl which goes great with the meat.
I did find overall there was alot of cheese in the dishes which was surprising to me. The sausages were filled with cheese along with the cheesy corn dish and the kimchi pancake had cheese in it also. The food was very tasty although the Kimchi pancake was not to my taste.
Would highly recommend this place if you're looking for great Korean BBQ.
Standout Dish - Beef Bulgogi
Bit expensive than any other Korean restaurant
Food is great and side dishes are awesome
Cold paste is my favorite food in there and it is free
Nice and friendly staff
Truly visit again
Normally need to wait 5-30min so sad
Visited White Tomato last night on a whim. The staff was really lovely and happy to accommodate us without a reservation even on a busy Friday night. Food was a bit expensive but really lovely. Even with the fans above each barbecue it was still very smoky in there and you leave with your clothes smelling like it. Overall though, it was a lovely experience. The staff are amazing and do the barbecue for you so you can just enjoy. One if their barbecue sets is perfect for two people. This would make a great date night.
Authentic Korean food, reasonably priced and great service! Fried chicken is way way better than Gami 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 bulgogi and seafood pancake were really good as well! So lucky to have found this place and we got a table within 10 mins of waiting and it was a Friday night! Very good dining experience overall 👍🏻
Pretty neat, had kimchi cheese pancake (really liked that), kimchi soup, a serving of rice, with Korean Green Tea (which is literally brown rice green tea - also quite nice). The rice was a little subpar, the kimchi soup was delicious and the kimchi cheese pancake was really nice.
Moreee corn cheese yes please! What's different with the corn cheese here is that there's onions and capsicum in it, reminds me of pizza the first few bites but still great. The fried chicken was balanced with the right amount of crispiness and spice given I don't like anything hot (comparison: kfc wicked wings are more spicy). The meats that we ordered looked fresh and were flavoursome, however the bbq plates we cooked on were not changed as often and ended up turning completely black and charred. The service was still good. We were always catered to immediately when one of us clumsy people dropped our cutlery or needed extra plates. In the end the total price was what surprised us, cheap and everyone was relatively satisfied, especially with the chupa chups we were all given after leaving. Overall I was content but too bad I haven't found any korean bbq places that don't make my hair and clothes smell after..
Update: 5 stars because amazing service and great food every visit 👍👍👍👍
Been here a few times with friends and family. Service was friendly and food was yummy c: usually have the sizzling hot plate meals, looking forward to trying their Korean BBQ 👌
I really enjoyed the meal here. The service was attentive and the food was tasty. For the price and portion size it was good and we left feeling full. I do love how we got a lolly pop as we left too. Large establishment so plenty of seating
Lots of complementary stuff, polite staff, but unfortunately questionable flavours.
Luke and Hannah continued on a quest to try all BBQ places in Melbourne, and this time its White Tomato.
Hannah insisted on ordering the beef set as it looked like a much better deal than ordering sepeate items. Luke agreed.
The beef combo started with some side dishes including sushi, some pasta, and veggies - which were okay though the portion was a bit small.
Next we got the stone bibimbap which was a bit disappointing (2.5/5) - there has a strong onion taste that overwhelmed the whole dish. The corn cheese we got nexttold the same story - for some reasons all we took out was a strong oniony taste (2.5/5)
We then got a bowl of tomato salad which was great (3.5/5) - fresh and with not too much dressing. They also served us some complementary Korean sausages and rice cakes to grill which was a nice touch.
We then got to the main meal which were the beef ribs and fillets, both of which were tender, well-marinated, and delicious (3.5). The staff also helped us cook the meat.
The last beef dish was the beef bulgogi which was unfortunately very average and a bit chewey (3/5). We wish the meat was sliced a bit thinner.
We also ordered a bowl of Kimchi soup which was tasty and comforting. There was a lot of spice but not too overwhelming. A strong taste of kimchi, tender pork slices, and soft tofu was a great combination.
The staff gave us some free chubby chubs as well which was very lovely of them.
Surprisingly good food, reasonably priced.
Had bimbimbap and beef tartare, quite fresh and nice. My friend had the stir fry noodles, flavoursome and not too salty.
Will come back again
Seafood hotpot was soooo nice ever I had before!! All my friends were so happy with the restaurant and we wanna go back to have hotpot as often as we can.
Decent food and decently priced. Ordered a 'Mixed BBQ small set' and a drink to share between two people. We chose chicken, seafood (squid), and pork as our meat mix and cold noodles as our main. Cold noodles and complimentary side of corn cheese was delicious but meats were nothing special. The squid should be marinated because it had no flavour whatsoever and the main of cold noodles was definitely not enough to share between two people (we called the restaurant previously to ask how many people this BBQ said would feed and they said 2-3 people). The other complimentary side of salad was just lettuce and tomato, no dressing or anything. Paid $61 and left satisfied, but not full. Overall, service was good and food was decent, but nothing special. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of serving sizes and flavours, but worth giving this place a shot (the corn cheese and chicken made this experience decent).
Services was really kind and patient. Food was really good quality. The interior is really retro-y but modern.
The place itself is quite spacious and has a nice theme to it.
Had the jabchai (potato glass noodle) [beef], tteokbokki (fish cake) [mild, soy] , Naeng Myeon (cold noodle soup) and kimchi pancake. Kimchi cheese pancake was a bit strange to my taste however it was still weirdly pleasant. The Japchae was plentiful and not that oily (which is great). Big quantity and quality of food for a good price. Shame I couldn't order any cocktails since not at that age yet but I'll come again once I'm old enough. They look great ^^
First three words that come to mind, love this place.
Lots of Korean Bbq's in Melbourne but this one is one of the stand outs. Food was really nice decor has a really cool feel to it and the staff fantastic.
If you live or are in Melbourne you must try this place.
So don't doubt the taste. The best thing to eat is pork belly. cut into thick slices for Grilled. it’s juicy, chewy and delicious. The original taste is the best. Lots of side dishes, fresh vegetables, rich and mellow kimchi.
⭐️ Highlight : boiled egg, the soft and chewy flour tteokbokki with a nice sauce. Yummmm😋
✅ spacious
✅ good atmosphere
✅ nice service
✅ fresh meat
Let’s try it
Want to go again because everything we ordered was just another level deliciousness. The restaurant is a bit on the expensive side, I guess because it is in the heart of the CBD and also the taste.
3 king prawns for $21 and chilli chicken $20 for bbq - 4/5, quantity of chicken for $20 was too less.
Corn cheese - Amazing, but again quantity?
Kimchi rice - Quantity and taste was good. 4/5
Soft tofu soup - Salty, but overall not too bad. The quantity was excellent.
Service - Excellent. One guy with limited English was serving us. He was trying his best with everything. Very polite, smiling and attentive. Anything he couldn't understand, he would run to his supervisor to clarify it for us.
Would definitely 100% go back.
Had a great time here! They have really good kimchi pancakes! Try the one with cheese on it! They had plenty of free side dishes which is a absolute plus when it comes to Korean bbq! Super happy I finally tried white tomato 🥰
Had dinner here tonight with a couple of mates and it was a pretty decent kbbq. There is a self serve sauce and banchan station which has this really amazing yellow pasta. It had a real nice sweet onion flavour. We got the set for 2-3 ppl which allowed you to pick 3 different meats, we went with the beef bulgogi, scotch fillet and spicy pork belly. The portion size was generous and the set came with corn cheese, steamed egg and 2 rice. The cold noodles were ok, but it doesn't come with the standard mustard and vinegar add on and there was also no meat. The fried chicken was a hit with everyone
The Food was great quality, Delicious and cooked for us, which I liked even more than having to do it all myself. Highly recommend.
Great food. Excellent service. We had some wagyu beef and soy chicken, and loved every bite.
